How do you start making a travel Reel for Instagram?

Malhotra begins with a clear-cut plan when making a Reel. “When crafting a compelling travel Reel, there are five key principles to bear in mind,” he says. “Prioritize high-quality footage and unique perspectives. Weave a narrative: Keep it personal and authentic. Emotions over beauty: Capture the essence of the locale. Audio is king: Choose complementary soundtracks. And lastly, timing matters: Share high-resolution content within the optimal timeframe.”

Savi and Vid stress that the video needs to be representative of the experience you are having or want viewers to have: “Be it a place you’re traveling to or somewhere you’re dining ! It needs to be impactful. If you can capture the audience within the first half, then that’s a sure-shot winner. Trending music is a no-brainer.”

For D’sa, it needs to feel authentic and real. “I have to keep it authentic, else it's not me,” she says. “Going viral should never be the reason to make a Reel. When you are truly enjoying yourself in a video, it shows. And that joy is infectious. Even though the quality of the video is of utmost importance, having fun and looking beyond trends is the key.”

Revati and Charles suggest being clear on what you are trying to communicate. “Some useful information ? A beautiful view? It’s then easier to make decisions while shooting, rather than ending up with a lot of footage that you don’t really like or can use.” They also recommend being the face of your Reel. “Don’t be afraid or shy to get in front of the camera! And talk. People love listening to people and seeing their faces to be able to put a face to the voice.”

Instagram content

This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from.

What equipment do you use to make a travel Reel?

“When it comes to crafting cinematic Reels, my go-to gear includes the iPhone 14 Pro,” says Malhotra. However, he also relies on a versatile array of equipment to elevate his content. “I use the Sony Alpha ZV-E1 for vlogs, accompanied by a selection of lenses tailored to specific needs. The DJI Mavic 3 takes care of breathtaking aerial shots, while the DJI Avata provides wide-angle drone shots. In addition, my trusty GoPro HERO 12 swoops in to capture all the action.”

D’sa says, “95% of my Reels are shot on camera. But an iPhone camera is good enough to start.” While Savi and Vid use a full-frame camera, their phones, and a tripod to make their Reels with a multi-camera setup. Joshi also uses his iPhone camera to film most videos.

For Revati and Charles, it depends on the situation at hand. “Our trusted Sony a7R III camera is for when we need stellar footage." An iPhone camera works for easy shots; a Hollyland Lark Wireless Microphone for clear voice-overs, and to talk over distances.

Malhotra says, “If you're embarking on your journey as a travel Reel creator on Instagram, you'll be pleased to know that an iPhone is your all-in-one solution. In fact, it's the only equipment I believe you truly need.” Revati and Charles add, “The best camera is the one you already have and know how to use ! It’s simple, shoots some great footage and doesn’t have a steep learning curve. There are people who’ve shot such fabulous films with just their phones!”

Savi and Vid suggest you add a portable ring light to your kit to make closeup shots look instantly better.

Which apps or software do you use to edit videos?

“To fine-tune my masterpieces, I turn to a variety of editing tools. On my laptop, I rely on Final Cut Pro for comprehensive edits. When on the move, VN Video Editor is my choice for mobile editing, and I also harness the native Instagram Reels tab for those final touches,” says Malhotra.

Joshi also suggests the VN Video Editor app for edits on the go: “For those just starting out, simplicity is the key to success. You can accomplish most of your edits using the Instagram app itself. Remember, consistency is the linchpin of growth. Begin there, and venture into more advanced editing techniques as you go.”

The Best Bagels in New York City

For Savi and Vid, Adobe Premiere Pro takes the cake. “I enjoy playing around with fonts, grading, and colors. There are countless phone-friendly apps like InShot and Filmm that are great for beginners or for established creators to edit on the go.” D’sa uses Premiere Pro on her laptop too, but she prefers InShot for on-phone editing. “Though it might sound time-consuming, I would always recommend learning desktop-based software before one on a phone. That truly makes learning the process on the phone quicker. I personally started with Adobe Premiere on my laptop, but there is DaVinci Resolve , which is arguably the best and has a free version too.”

Revati and Charles use a MacBook Pro to edit. “It helps to have an SSD drive and a large-capacity Drobo to archive can save and access all the footage for later use. Of course, sometimes it’s as simple as shooting with your phone and editing on it, either with templates or with editing apps like VLLO . The edit must roughly be in your head before you shoot. Our 35-odd years of collective experience in shooting commercial films have etched that in our minds. Take people through a journey or discovery. Every piece of content is a story, even just info-dispensing ones! As a process, do a rough lineup, without worrying about the exact points you want to cut. If it makes sense, then begin cutting precisely. Walk away from it for a bit, and you will often return with great ideas. If you have a voice-over, having that in place with your rough cut will tell you whether you need fewer or more words. The superimposed text should be limited to just the few things you want to emphasize.”

What’s the key to a catchy caption on Instagram?

“Try to be unique with your words, and don’t be afraid to make it emotional. That’s when you will be able to create an interesting caption that connects with your audience,” says D’sa. While Joshi says, “Treat each reel differently. Ideally, keep it short, but in some cases, you might need to add more information in the description that wasn't in the reel, or cue to a bigger story.”

Savi and Vid aren’t afraid to keep their captions bulky: “We’ve always been storytellers, so we love writing long and meaningful captions. I would say one should go with their instinct while penning captions. If you enjoy short and impactful captions, go the one-line route! But if words give you joy or you have valuable information to share, write a lengthy descriptive one.”

“Don’t forget to provide any context or background info that you couldn’t add in the reel,” say Revati and Charles. “Ask a question—it’s great to get more engagement and comments. Write in your own voice, and make sure you don’t use phrases that you’d never utter. Use hashtags and keywords for added discoverability, and put relevant information in (cost, location, timings, etc). Lastly, since it’s happened to us, please don’t copy someone else’s caption!”

Malhotra adds, “Crafting an engaging caption is an art in itself. Here's the secret: Keep it concise and relatable. Always remember, that your caption serves as the second point of engagement. This means that if someone enjoys what they see in your reel, they'll be inclined to delve deeper into your caption. So, make your caption an extension of the story your video tells.”

What shouldn't you do when making travel videos?

“Make sure your content isn’t being uploaded in low-resolution. Remember that timing is everything. Don't post when your potential audience is catching the z's and try avoiding non-trending audios,” says Malhotra.

Savi and Vid suggest that you do not “overdo the filters and colors, as overly processed reels tend not to do well. Avoid too much text [on the video itself]. It gets tough to read and people love watching and listening more than reading. And don’t just copy trends mindlessly. If it’s you, then go for it.”

Joshi says, “Copying someone else’s style might work for a while, but you need to develop your own aesthetic. We personally feel there are no strict no's, except reels promoting irresponsible behavior that can cause societal harm, such as littering in public places, ignoring driving rules to film sensational content, or reinforcing sexist stereotypes,” say Savi and Vid.

Revati and Charles add, “Just post. Don’t wait to gold-plate it. The more you do it, the better you’ll get. Don’t worry so much about what people are going to think or how you look. You’re forgotten at the start of the next reel!”

Document a Day in Your Life While on Vacation

As you're spending your days lounging on the beach or exploring new cities, documenting those moments can be a fun way to capture your vacation.

If you're traveling with friends or family, include them in your video as much as possible. This will help viewers feel like they're right there with you, experiencing the sights and sounds of your destination. Try to film everything – from waking up in the morning to getting to bed at night. If there's something interesting happening that day, be sure to capture it on camera.

By filming everything from the moment you wake up to when you go to bed, you'll have an amazing compilation of footage. Plus, it's a great way to reflect on your trip once you're back home.

Share Interesting Facts About the Place You're Visiting

Traveling to new places is always an adventure. Every destination has its own unique culture, history, and landscape. There's something strangely intriguing about learning a little bit more about a destination beyond what meets the eye.

For example, making a video of Rome and highlighting the history of how it’s built on seven hills. Or Venice, Italy which is made up of 100 islands. A travel video that talks about cool facts will make it an engaging and enriching experience for the viewer.

Capture Unique and Exciting Activities you Participate in While Traveling

When most people think of traveling, they imagine sightseeing and visiting historical landmarks. But there's so much more to explore. Don't just focus on the sights and sounds of your destination; get creative and make your travel video stand out from the rest by considering incorporating unique and exciting activities you can participate.

Whether it's rafting down a treacherous river or scaling a cliff face, these clips will add an element of excitement and intrigue that will keep viewers engaged.

Film People Enjoying the Local Food and Culture

To spice up your travel videos, consider incorporating some shots of the local food and culture. Anyone who's been to a foreign country can tell you that one of the most enjoyable ways to experience the native culture is by eating the local cuisine. A very easy way to share this cultural experience with others is by creating a TikTok video or Instagram reel featuring local restaurants who serve native dishes.

To all my Anthony Bourdain fans out there, it can also be a lot of fun to explore different culinary traditions. Who knows, you might even find yourself enjoying some unusual dishes. Foodie travel has a loyal following because so many of us like to eat well on vacation. Bon appétit!

Take Drone Footage of Stunning Landscapes or Cityscapes

While there are many different ways to explore new places, nothing quite beats the view from high up in the sky. And thanks to drones, we now have a way to get amazing aerial footage of landscapes and cityscapes like never before.

Drones offer a unique perspective that can turn a mundane travel video into an inspiring work of art. Whether you're looking at snow-capped mountains or the hustle and bustle of a city skyline, drone videos offer a unique perspective on familiar landmarks. From up high, everything looks different — more beautiful, more impressive. It's no wonder that drone videography has become so popular over the last few years.

My best friend is a YouTube content creator and when we travel she packs her travel drone which is very lightweight and compact . I love incorporating her short drone clips into my own videos to make them pop!

Viewers Really Love Fall & Holiday Travel

When the summer is over and the fall season begins, there’s a kind of magic in the air. In the autumn months we love everything pumpkin-related, comfy and cozy vibes, sweater weather and of course Halloween. Fall lovers enjoy watching videos with pumpkin patches, fall fashion OOTDs for travel, fall foliage, Halloween destinations and more. See my guide to fall content ideas on the blog . I’ve also created a fall-themed hashtag guide to help your content get discovered by new viewers. Use my recommended tactics to grow your audience.

After Halloween is done, we start with preparations for Thanksgiving which is the beginning of the holiday season. Because so many people have a break from school and work, the holiday season can be a popular travel time. Not to mention that there’s so many sought after holiday places to travel. The Christmas decor, twinkling lights, jolly music and general merriment of the holidays makes it a memorable time to plan a getaway. Bonus points if you go visit the snow for a white Christmas! See my guide to holiday-themed content on the blog .

Document the Process of Packing for a Trip

People have a fascination with watching videos on how to pack for a trip. They can see what works for others and get ideas for their own packing lists. This is a simple way to avoid packing mistakes and maximize space in your luggage.

Start by making a list of everything you will need and then sorting the items into categories. Remember to pack light — you don't want to be overloaded with bags when you're trying to enjoy your vacation.

This is also a great way to incorporate fashion outfit ideas for specific destinations. Think dresses and swimsuits for a tropical island like Hawaii or sweaters and boots for New York City in the fall .

Travel to Hidden, Under the Radar & Off the Beaten Path Destinations

The problem with popular tourist destinations is that you’ll be dealing with crowds of people and over-priced hotels. There’s a growing trend in travel where adventurers are looking to discover rarely seen places such as abandoned ghost towns , hidden hiking trails and swimming water holes . Because these are usually hard to find or difficult to access places, making videos about your visit can garner the attention of many new curious followers.

Eco-Friendly & Sustainable Tourism

With sustainability on the top of everyone’s minds, it’s no surprise that eco-friendly tourism is on the rise. Popular hotel booking sites such as Booking.com features hotels that have been awarded the status of “ Travel Sustainable Properties ”. On the left hand side of their website you can see the sustainable hotels filter option .

A fun video idea could be to feature a hotel’s sustainable products and practices, showcasing how they are doing their part to be friendlier to the environment.

7 Ways to Edit the Perfect Travel Based Reels

Once upon a time, whenever you traveled, you could only share your experience through pictures and 15 seconds clips.

Times have changed and have brought new features to Instagram, and it's all for good. Yes! We are talking about Instagram Reels, the popular video feature which is still on hype.

It's a no-brainer that reels are one of the easiest ways for a brand to reach more audiences. However, since we're talking about travel reels, it'll need more than a clever marketing approach and excellent camera gear to make them prominent. It'll also take some skilled editing talents.

Why Instagram Reels for Travel Blogs?

Reels has received a lot of attention and enthusiasm from the social media community despite its recent debut. Furthermore, reels have a higher chance of reaching a wider audience than posts and stories, which is why travel bloggers should use reels.

Your account will reach more feeds and recommendations with relevant hashtags and quality videos.

For a reel to feature in the trend top list, there are some editing skills and Instagram reel tips every travel blogger should know. Here are some of 7 ways to edit the perfect travel-based reels:

cool travel reels

1. A Picturesque Time-Lapse Video

There is something ethereal about the time-lapse video. Maybe it's because it captures the ephemeral moments of life so eloquently and poetically.

And that's precisely why you should capture a time-lapse video.

Usually, most phones have unique settings for time-lapse videos, but if yours aren't simple, use any video editing app. Now shoot the video like you usually do and increase its speed to 5x or 6x while editing.

Then, to complement the clip, play some tranquil and relaxing music.

Tip: When shooting video for time-lapse recordings, we recommend using a tripod rather than your hands to avoid a jittery, unpleasant interruption in the middle.

2. Nostalgic Photo Dump Reels

Reels need not always necessarily have to be a video or collection of videos, and they could also be a collection of pictures. Gather your favorite trip snaps and arrange them in a friendly manner, or better yet, let them be a jumble.

Using your video editor, import the photos you've picked and give each one a specific time, no more than 0.5x. After you've set the time, add some music, and your nostalgic photo dump reel is ready to go viral.

Tip: You can also add effects to the pictures to edit how they appear on the video.

cool travel reels

3. Slow-Motion Video to Capture Fleeting Moments

There is no better way to display a beautiful landscape than slow-motion videos.

Usually, you will not need a third-party application since most cameras and smartphones already come with the slow-motion option.

Set the slow-motion feature and move the gadget to capture the moment, or you can simply capture the still moment with clouds passing by the scenery.

With tranquil music for the background, you now have masterpiece reels showing up on every feed.

Tip: For slow-motion videos, it is better to rely on tripods for the movement, as even the slightest jitter will ruin the vibe.

cool travel reels

4. Panning Video Reels

This is probably the simplest reels trick that will not require special editing tricks.

All you will have to do is move your mobile camera from across the scenery, not too slow and not too fast, at a gentle, moderate speed. The key is to make sure the length of the video is not too long.

Tip: Depending on the vibe of the location, pair the suitable audio and add some text and the location of the place.

cool travel reels

5. Transition Videos for the Excitement

Transition videos are quite popular nowadays. A series of events artistically blended and expressed in a 60 seconds short video captivates people's attention. Transition videos may take some effort, but it's all worth it in the end. You can either bring your transition videos or get help from someone else.

From the beginning of the trip to the destination, shoot quick shots of every part of your traveling. Combine the video later.

Shoot from multiple angles, present diverse views, go macro, capture movies in portrait mode, wide-angle, etc.

Combine these clips with a current peppy song to create a professional travel reel!

Tip: When adding special effects for each and every video, make sure not to exaggerate the effects and keep it simple.

7. Make Informative Video Reels

Different countries and cities have their own set of rules. Not everyone is aware of these rules, so you can help them by sharing the rules with videos taken from the city.

Viewers generally find instructive films to be quite informative, so your reel has a reasonable possibility of reaching a larger audience and garnering more Instagram likes and views. You can also take a look at the services provided by Megafamous for more likes and views on your posts and reels.

Combine all of the videos and use a photo editing application to overlay text over them. You may modify the look of your Instagram videos by importing your own typefaces.

Tip: Along with adding text to your video, add the specific rules and other essential information in the captions.

cool travel reels

7. Share Your Food Experience

What a good vacation without good food? Right? Then why not use reels to share your culinary adventures?

Take videos of the restaurant or cafe where you are going to eat, and then take close-up shots of the waiter bringing the meal you ordered and the meal in the finest quality.

Since it's a travel video, share the traditional dishes of the city or country.

Make sure to note the dish's name as well as the restaurant. You can also include a brief review of the cuisine in the captions to ensure that your viewers take your advice seriously and save the video.

Tip: If it's spicy food, add dynamic music. Suppose it's a sweet dessert; add a melodious or a classical piece as the reel audio.

Antika Nandy

Are you ready to embark on a journey that will transform your travel footage into visually stunning masterpieces? In this comprehensive blog, we’ll dive deep into the art of creating amazing travel reels in India. From planning your shots to nailing camera angles, selecting the right equipment, adding captivating movements, and perfecting the editing process, we’ve got you covered. So, let’s uncover the secrets and unleash your creativity!

Preparing for Visual Delights – Planning

To capture mesmerizing travel moments, meticulous planning is key. Here’s what you need to consider:

Research and Inspiration

Immerse yourself in the rich tapestry of India’s diverse culture, breath-taking landscapes, and vibrant cities. Explore travel blogs, photography websites, and social media platforms for inspiration to curate your unique visual storytelling.    Plan what kind of travel reels you will be making. If you’re creating a travel reel solely for entertainment purposes, you may want to focus on showcasing the beauty and excitement of India’s culture and landscapes. For instance, you could capture stunning shots of the Taj Mahal at sunrise or showcase the vibrant energy of Mumbai’s street markets. Your goal here is to create a visually stunning reel that evokes a sense of awe and wonder in the viewer.    On the other hand, if your travel reel is intended to be informative, you may want to incorporate more educational elements. For example, you could create a reel highlighting the rich history and significance of India’s ancient temples, such as the intricately carved Khajuraho temples or the UNESCO World Heritage site of Hampi.

Storyboarding

Visualize your travel reel by sketching out shot ideas and sequences. Create a roadmap that highlights the key locations, landmarks, and experiences you want to showcase. For example, if you are planning to cover your road trip from Mumbai to Goa, you might want to know about all the popular or not so popular scenic stretches that can make your reel look fantastic.

Gear Up for Cinematic Brilliance – Equipment

Equip yourself with the right tools to capture the essence of your journey. Here are some essentials to consider, with a focus on creating travel reels using smartphones:

  • Camera Selection: When it comes to creating travel reels, smartphones have become a popular choice due to their convenience and advanced camera capabilities. Look for a smartphone with a high-resolution camera, preferably with manual control options for adjusting exposure, focus, and white balance. Features like optical image stabilization (OIS) or electronic image stabilization (EIS) can help ensure smooth footage, especially when shooting on the go.
  • Lenses and Accessories: While smartphones offer versatile built-in lenses, you can further enhance your creative possibilities with additional lens attachments. Wide-angle lenses are ideal for capturing expansive landscapes or crowded city streets, allowing you to include more in the frame. Macro lenses brings out intricate details in flowers or architectural elements, while telephoto lenses enable you to zoom in on distant subjects. Explore different lens options designed specifically for smartphones, as they can significantly enhance your footage.
  • Tripod or Stabilization: Stability is crucial when shooting professional-looking travel reels. Consider investing in a compact tripod or a smartphone stabilizer gimbal to minimize camera shake and ensure smooth footage. Tripods provide stability during stationary shots, while gimbals offer stabilized movement even while walking or capturing dynamic scenes. Look for lightweight and portable options that are easy to carry during your travel adventures.
  • Additional Accessories: To elevate your travel reels, consider other accessories that can enhance your filming experience. External microphones can improve audio quality, especially when recording voice-overs or capturing interviews. Portable LED lights or ring lights can help you achieve well-lit shots of your face and the surroundings, especially in low-light environments or during night-time scenes. Don’t forget extra batteries, memory cards, and a reliable smartphone charger to ensure you don’t miss any precious moments. Remember, while having the latest and most advanced equipment can enhance the quality of your travel reels, creativity and storytelling remain paramount. The best camera is the one you have with you, so make the most of your smartphone’s capabilities and focus on capturing unique perspectives and engaging content that resonates with your audience.

Framing the Extraordinary – Camera Angles and Movements

Crafting visually captivating travel reels requires a keen eye for composition and engaging camera movements. Here’s how to level up your cinematography skills:

cool travel reels

  • Shooting Format: Shooting in vertical format (9:16 aspect ratio) allows your content to occupy the entire screen when viewed on mobile devices. This format is perfect for capturing tall landmarks, vertical cityscapes, or close-up shots of people, creating an immersive and visually appealing experience for viewers. Horizontal format can be utilized when you want to showcase expansive landscapes, wide-angle shots, or incorporate horizontal movement into your travel reels.
  • Frame rate: When shooting your travel footage, consider using a frame rate of 60 frames per second (fps) to capture smooth and fluid motion. This higher frame rate is more flexible during the editing process, particularly if you want to create slow-motion sequences. By shooting at 60 fps, you can easily slow down certain clips in post-production, adding a dramatic touch to specific moments in your travel reel. Experiment with different frame rates and find the one that best suits your creative vision.
  • Exposure Settings: Achieving the right exposure is crucial in creating visually appealing travel reels. To create a moody and atmospheric feel, aim to preserve the highlights while enhancing the shadows. This technique adds depth and dimension to your footage, creating a more cinematic look. When exposing your shots, consider reducing the exposure slightly to maintain the highlights without blowing them out, while also ensuring that the shadows have enough detail. This approach can enhance the overall mood of your travel reel, especially when capturing dramatic landscapes, ancient ruins, or vibrant cityscapes.
  • Camera Angles and Movements: Don’t be afraid to step outside the conventional and explore various camera angles and movements to add dynamism and visual interest to your travel reels. For example, consider incorporating drone shots to capture breath-taking aerial views of landscapes or cityscapes. These sweeping shots can provide a unique perspective and a sense of awe-inspiring scale. Alternatively, try using low-angle shots to showcase the grandeur of monuments or capture the immersive feeling of walking through bustling markets. By experimenting with different angles and movements, you can bring a fresh and captivating perspective to your footage. But before you go experimenting, make sure that you understand the basic composition rules .
  • Combining Static Shots with Dynamic Movements: To create a visually engaging narrative, it’s important to strike a balance between static shots and dynamic camera movements. Static shots provide stability and allow your viewers to absorb the details of a scene, while dynamic movements add energy and excitement. For instance, use panning movements to follow a subject as they move through a busy street or tilt the camera to capture the height of a majestic waterfall. Incorporate smooth tracking shots to create a sense of movement and guide the viewer’s attention. By combining different camera movements with well-composed static shots, you can create a dynamic visual experience that keeps your audience engaged.

Mastering the Art of Editing

The editing process is where your travel reel truly comes to life. Follow these tips to elevate your post-production skills and create captivating travel reels:

  • Selecting the Best Footage: Once you have captured your travel footage, it’s time to select the most compelling and visually striking clips that align with your storyboard. Review all your footage and mark the interesting portions. Line them up in your editing software to get a sense of how your reel will flow. Keep in mind the desired length of your reel, as the best travel reels are often around 15 -30 seconds long. Trim any unnecessary footage that doesn’t contribute to the narrative or visual aesthetic, ensuring that every shot adds value to your reel.
  • Color Grading: Enhance the mood and atmosphere of your travel reel through colour grading. Experiment with different colour palettes to evoke emotions and create a cohesive visual tone. For example, if you want to showcase the vibrant colours of Indian festivals, enhance the saturation and warmth of the footage. Conversely, if you’re capturing serene landscapes, opt for a more subdued and natural colour grading. Explore the colour grading tools in your editing software and play with settings like contrast, saturation, and hue to achieve the desired look.
  • Adding Transitions and Effects: Smooth transitions and subtle effects can enhance the flow and impact of your travel reel. Use transitions like crossfades, dissolve, or creative transitions that suit the theme of your video. For instance, if you’re showcasing the contrast between traditional and modern India, you could use a split-screen transition to visually represent the juxtaposition. Additionally, experiment with effects like zoom-in and zoom-out, speed ramping, or overlay effects to add visual interest and emphasize specific moments. However, use these effects judiciously, ensuring they enhance the narrative rather than overpowering it.
  • Selecting the Right Music: The music you choose plays a vital role in setting the mood and enhancing the overall impact of your travel reel. Consider the vibe and theme of your reel when selecting the music. Are you aiming for quick cuts and energetic editing? Look for upbeat and lively tracks that match the pace and energy of your footage. For more scenic and contemplative reels, opt for ambient or melodic tracks that evoke a sense of tranquillity. Keep an eye on the popular music trends on platforms like Instagram, as using trending music can often increase engagement with your reel.
  • Overlaying Text: Adding text to your travel reel can provide context, highlight important details, or convey a specific message. Choose appropriate fonts and styles that align with the theme and mood of your reel. For example, if you’re showcasing historical landmarks, a classic and elegant font may be suitable. On the other hand, if your reel focuses on street food adventures, a fun and playful font can add to the lively atmosphere. Overlay text sparingly, ensuring it doesn’t overpower the visuals but enhances the storytelling.

As you edit your travel reel, consider editing it in way that showcases the country’s rich cultural heritage. Highlight the vibrant colours of Holi, the intricate architecture of historical monuments like the Taj Mahal, or the bustling energy of local markets. Let your editing choices reflect the essence of India, capturing its diversity, traditions, and captivating landscapes.

For any kind of complex editing and colour grading, you can’t depend on Instagram’s in-built editor. Because it only provides basic tools. There are many external video editors available for any kind of complex editing. They come with their own pros and cons, so choose wisely.

Remember, editing is where you can truly shape your travel reel and bring your creative vision to life. Experiment with different techniques, transitions, effects, and music choices to find the perfect balance that enhances your visuals and engages your audience.

Additional Tips

  • Incorporate Time-lapses and Slow-motion: Time-lapse and slow-motion techniques can add a touch of magic to your travel reels, transforming ordinary moments into extraordinary visual experiences. Time-lapse allows you to condense hours or even days into a few seconds, capturing the movement of clouds, changing light, or the crazy energy of a crowded street. It’s perfect for showcasing the dynamic nature of India’s cities or capturing the mesmerizing beauty of sunrise and sunset. On the other hand, slow-motion can create a sense of drama and draw attention to intricate details. Use slow-motion to highlight the delicate movements of a dancer, the splashing waves on a beach, or the vibrant colours of a traditional festival. Experiment with different speeds to find the perfect balance and add a captivating dimension to your travel reels.
  • Utilize Creative B-roll Shots: B-roll footage refers to supplementary shots that complement your main footage and add depth and visual interest to your travel reels. This is your opportunity to showcase the smaller details, unique textures, and captivating elements that make your travel experiences special. Capture close-ups of intricate architectural details, vibrant local street art, mouth-watering local cuisine, or the colorful textiles and handicrafts found in India’s bustling markets. These shots not only enhance the visual storytelling but also provide a more immersive and sensory experience for your viewers. You can also use Indian stock footage available online for your B-roll needs .  Be creative and experimental with your B-roll shots, capturing the essence of the location and its cultural nuances.
  • Experiment with Hyperlapses: Take your time-lapse shots to the next level by incorporating hyper lapse. Hyper lapse is a technique where you create a time-lapse sequence while moving the camera over a longer distance. This adds a dynamic element to your footage and can create a sense of movement and exploration. Use hyper lapse to capture your journey through crowded markets, winding streets, or scenic landscapes. It can provide a unique perspective and transport your viewers into the heart of your travel experiences, and at a practical level, it allows an audience to take in the chaos of traversing crowded spaces at a speed that allows the eye to locate and appreciate the elements at play.
  • Split-screen techniques: Split-screen format is a creative technique used in travel reels to showcase multiple horizontal videos simultaneously, offering a unique visual storytelling approach. It involves dividing the screen into two or more sections, each displaying a different video clip. In the context of travel reels in India, split-screen can be used to highlight the diversity and rich experiences within a single location. For example, imagine featuring a split-screen shot of Jaipur, also known as the Pink City. On one side, you could showcase the magnificent Amber Fort, with its grand architecture and intricate details. On the other side, you could capture the vibrant hustle and bustle of Jaipur’s local markets, filled with colourful textiles, handicrafts, and beautiful people.

From majestic historical landmarks to bustling street markets, from vibrant festivals to serene landscapes, let your reels showcase the diverse tapestry of this incredible country. So, pack your camera, ignite your imagination, and let your travel reels become portals to adventure, inspiration, and the undeniable allure of India. Happy filming, and may your reels captivate hearts and ignite wanderlust!

The most popular way to share and document a trip is now through TikTok or Instagram’s short videos. These Instagram reel ideas for travel will change the way you see the world. Some may require some editing and phone management expertise, while others are very simple.

Instagram reel ideas for travel

A timelapse will always work.

Time-lapses allow you to capture sunsets, sunrises and traffic at night. You can also capture the landscape of the area you are visiting. Time-lapse is basically a video that you take on your phone for at most 2 minutes. You will need to stand up.

Many phones have the ability to record timelapse videos separately in their camera apps. It’s fine if your phone doesn’t come with it. Simply shoot a normal video with a duration of 2-5 minutes. Then, open the InShot app and increase the speed to 5x-6x. That’s it! Pair calm, peaceful audio for best results.

Minimalistic Living Reels

This is a great Instagram Reel idea for those who travel long distances. This is a great way to show how it feels to travel while living only the essentials. You can also share your camping stories and bonfire reels.

Panning videos

To showcase beautiful walls or locations, you can take steady panning videos. Don’t rush. Slow down, take your time and move slowly to make sure all details are clearly visible.

To create suspense and keep people watching until the end, add text that reveals where the location is after the countdown ends.

Always include a Call to Action

A call to action (CTA), should not be included in the caption or in the reel. CTAs can be in many forms but they always ask that the viewer engage further with the reel’s creator. For example, a text overlay that asks the viewer if they have been there or if they would like to go ?”)..

A reel of a traveler enjoying local food and culture

Consider including photos of local culture and food to spice up your travel videos. If you’ve ever been to a foreign country, it is obvious that eating local food is one of the best ways to get to know the culture. This cultural experience can be shared with others by creating a TikTok or Instagram reel that features local restaurants serving native cuisine.

Use from a drone

There are many ways to see new places. But nothing beats seeing it from the air. Drones have made it possible to capture incredible aerial footage of cities and landscapes.

Drones can transform a boring travel video into a work of art. Drone videos give you a different perspective on familiar landmarks, whether they are looking at the snow-capped mountains or bustle of a city’s skyline. Everything looks more amazing and beautiful from up high. Drone videography has been so popular in recent years, it’s not surprising.

Places to Visit

You don’t need to travel to faraway countries. This is the next Travel Reel. Send us short videos about weekend getaways in your hometown or the top places to visit there.

Speciality at that place

Each destination is famous for one thing. To help others discover the specialties of a destination, create travel reels. You can also share information about local markets or special dishes. You can also make a Reel about its history.

Slow-motion video

This feature should be available on your phone’s camera. InShot won’t allow you to slow down normal videos. This will result in less smooth results. A tripod is recommended for slow-motion videos, just like timelapse.

Slow-motion is best when there’s lots going on in the scene. Slow-motion videos are best when there is a water body surrounding you.

Checklist to Travel

A Reel of must-have travel items for novice travelers will help you. We all know that even with careful packing and planning, we can still miss one thing.

Budget Tips in Travel

It’s a great way to expand your horizons by visiting different countries and learning about other cultures. Traveling can be costly so make sure you maximize your travel budget. You can share your ideas and save money by creating content. There is a whole culture that revolves around budget travel and money-saving hacks for frugal, savvy travelers.

Car travel video

Take a short video for 10-15 seconds while you are riding in a car to get from one place on a trip. This is the easiest way to create a travel reel.

To get the best video quality, hold the phone in both your hands. You can stabilize your video even more by using the Google Photos app.

Make it informative

This reel will get more shares and saves. You can pair your video clips with the following information:

  • You should visit these tourist spots in every city
  • The best places to grab a quick bite
  • Booking international flights with COVID protocols
  • Recommendations for affordable trips
  • Recommend a hotel and share information about their pricing and services

InShot allows you to combine all the videos and add text. To customize the look of your Instagram reels, you can import your fonts. Use a label to make text stand out if your videos are bright and high-contrast.

The packing process for trip

Many people love to watch videos about packing for trips. You can learn from others what works and get some ideas for your own packing lists. This is an easy way to avoid making mistakes when packing and maximize your luggage space.

Make a list of all the things you need, then organize them into categories. Be light when packing — you don’t want to overpack while you’re on vacation.

Reel in the Views: 5 Tips For Creating Engaging Instagram Travel Reels

Updated January 25, 2024

Most likely you’ve done some experimenting with Instagram Reels, and maybe even integrated them as a regular part of your Instagram strategy.

But have you noticed lately that your Instagram Reels get less views and engagement than they did a few months ago?

While I never recommend using social media as a main way to build your business for this very reason, social media can be a valuable way to grow your email list and provide social proof for your business.

That means having a robust social media presence is definitely worthwhile.

So, while posting an Instagram Reel or two isn't the surefire way to grow your audience that it used to be, there are still ways to create engaging content to attract more people to your travel accounts.

And you don't need to be a film director to make a splash with your video content. It's all about capturing the essence of travel – the sights, the sounds, the vibes – in a way that's authentic, engaging, and yes, a little bit fun.

So, whether you're a seasoned travel reels creator or just dipping your toes into the world of travel marketing, get ready to 'reel' in your audience with the right combination of creativity, inspiration, and strategy.

Tip 1: Craft a narrative with visual storytelling

When it comes to creating travel reels for your Instagram account, think of yourself as a storyteller.

The key? Crafting a narrative that transports your followers from their couches straight to the heart of your destination.

Keep in mind that not every reel or social media post needs to tell a story. A picture, after all, is worth a thousand words, and a great travel video can be worth a thousand pictures. Mix it up a bit by using both single-shot reels and combining multiple short video clips into a single reel.

Start with a Bang:  Every great story has a captivating beginning. Kick off your travel reel with something that grabs attention – a breathtaking view, a lively local festival, or maybe a tantalizing local dish.

This is your hook, your “hero shot”, the “wow” moment that makes viewers want to keep watching.

The Heart of the Story:  The middle of your reel is where the magic happens. This is where you unfold the story of your destination. Show clips of bustling markets, the serene sunsets, the laughter of locals, or the clink of coffee cups at a quaint café.

It's not just about showing places; it's about sharing experiences. Let your followers really feel the vibe of the place.

End with a Memory:  As all good things must come to an end, so should your travel reel. Conclude with something memorable – it could be serene landscapes, a peaceful night view, or even a teaser of what's to come next.

Leave your followers with a lingering sense of wonder, an invitation to explore more, both in their imaginations and, hopefully, in reality too.

Remember, reels can be short stories – and every frame counts. Your goal is to create a narrative that not only showcases a destination's beauty but also tells a story that resonates with your audience.

Tip 2: Use eye-catching visuals

High-quality visuals in travel reels are like the secret sauce that can turn a good story into an unforgettable one.

It's not just about finding pretty places. It's about capturing them in a way that feels authentic and mesmerizing.

Quality Over Quantity:  First things first, focus on clarity and quality. A shaky, blurred video of the Eiffel Tower at sunset? A big no-no.

Invest in a good stabilizer or tripod for your phone or camera. Clear, stable footage is more than just pleasing to the eye; it's a nod to your professionalism.

Find Your Angle:  Sometimes it's all about perspective. That hidden alley adorned with street art, the local market bustling with life, the silhouette of a city skyline at dusk – these are the scenes that tell a story.

Experiment with different angles and viewpoints to give your audience a fresh take on familiar sights.

Lighting is Everything:  Good lighting can be the difference between a mediocre shot and a masterpiece. The golden hour – just after sunrise or before sunset – is your friend. It's nature's filter, casting a warm, soft light that can make any scene look magical.

Authenticity is Key:  Yes, we all love those postcard-perfect shots, but realness resonates. Include the unexpected – the hustle and bustle, the quiet moments, the laughter and chatter. Show the destination as it is, in all its glory and imperfection.

Edit with a Light Touch:  When it comes to editing video, less is often more. Enhance your visuals with a video editor to bring out their best, but avoid overdoing it. Let the natural beauty of your scenes shine through.

Keep transitions simple and functional unless you're going for a full, epic cinematic approach.

The goal is to create a visual journey so compelling that your viewers can almost feel the breeze on their faces or smell the street food.

Tip 3: Embrace local flavors and showcase unique experiences

When it comes to travel reels, it’s all about capturing the essence of a place – its culture, people, and unique experiences.

This is where your reel transforms from a visual journey to an immersive cultural experience that highlights a travel destination.

Highlight local culture:  Let your reel showcase the vibrant tapestry of local culture. From traditional dances on cobblestone streets to artisans crafting wares using age-old techniques, these moments capture the authentic travel experience your audience craves.

Embrace authentic sounds:  Music is the universal language, and every destination has its own melody. Incorporate a trending song or audio clip into your reel that sets the mood and transports viewers straight into the heart of the destination. Make sure the audio you select complements the visuals instead of competing with them.

Cicchetti in Venice, Italy. The small sandwiches are stacked in a case, ready for purchase.

Food is a feast for the eyes:  Food is more than sustenance; it's a cultural journey. Showcase the local cuisine in all its glory – from steaming street food to exquisite local delicacies. Let viewers almost taste the flavors through their screens. Remember, food is not just about eating; it's about the experience, the preparation, the joy of sharing.

Capture customs and traditions:  Every place has its unique customs and traditions. Share these special moments – be it a local festival, a traditional holiday, or a daily ritual. These experiences offer a genuine glimpse into the local way of life and add depth to your reel.

Engage with locals:  Interaction with locals can add an authentic voice to your reel. A smile, a greeting, a shared moment – these are the encounters that bring warmth and authenticity to your travel reel.

Tip 4: Engage and connect by inviting interaction

Creating a great travel reel isn’t just about showcasing stunning destinations; it's about creating a two-way street of interaction with your audience.

Ask a question:  Questions are the simplest yet most effective way to spark engagement. At the end of your reel or in the caption, include a question related to your content. "Have you ever visited this beach?" or "What's your favorite local dish?"

It doesn’t work every time, but questions can spark comments, interaction, and ultimately get your travel reel seen by more people.

Include a call to action:  A call to action (CTA) is your cue to the audience to take the next step. It can be as simple as "Follow us for more adventures" or "Tag a friend who would love this."

If a reel goes along with a blog post on your website, use a CTA to drive people to your travel blog.

Think of CTAs on your Instagram posts as a gentle nudge to get viewers to engage more deeply with your content.

Cross-post in your Instagram Story:  Don't let your content live in isolation. Cross-post between Reels and Stories to maximize reach and interaction.

Use Instagram Stories to highlight a reel. You can also create a poll or quiz that complements your reel. It's not just fun and interactive, it's an excellent way to understand your audience's preferences and tailor your content accordingly.

Respond, relate, repeat:  Engagement is a two-way street. When your audience takes the time to comment, make sure to respond. This helps build a community around your content and makes your audience feel heard and valued.

Also make sure you spend time searching for and engaging with other people’s content as well. It's important to give as much (or more) than you'd like to receive, and the Instagram algorithm seems to lean heavily toward rewarding accounts that spend a lot of time engaging with others.

By actively inviting interaction and engaging with your audience, you're not just creating content, you're fostering a community. This approach both extends the reach of your travel reels and builds a loyal audience that is more likely to engage with and share new posts.

Tip 5: Build a consistent Instagram Reels strategy

In the ever-evolving world of Instagram, one rule remains unchanged: consistency is vital. Consistent posting keeps your audience engaged, which means the Instagram algorithm is more likely to show them your new content.

Here are a few ways to help maintain a consistent posting schedule.

Set a realistic schedule:  Start by setting a posting schedule that is realistic and manageable. Whether it's twice a week or every other day, choose a frequency that works for you and your content creation process.

Consistency doesn't mean posting every day; it means posting regularly.

Plan ahead:  The key to consistency is planning. Use a content calendar to map out your reels in advance. This helps in maintaining a steady stream of content and avoids last-minute scrambles.

Consider seasonal themes, upcoming holidays, or local events that align with your travel niche.

Batch create:  Embrace the art of batch creation. Dedicate time to shoot or edit multiple reels. This approach not only saves time but also ensures you have a stash of content ready to go, keeping your posting schedule on track.

Quality over quantity:  While consistency is crucial, never compromise on quality for the sake of quantity. It's better to post less frequently with high-quality content than to post mediocre content just to stick to a schedule.

Monitor and adapt:  Keep an eye on your engagement metrics. What time of day does your audience engage the most? Which reels are getting more traction?

Use these insights to fine-tune your posting schedule and content strategy.

Stay flexible:  While consistency is important, so is flexibility. Be ready to adapt your strategy to new trends, feedback from your audience, or changes in the Instagram algorithm.

Building a consistent reel strategy is not just about keeping up with a schedule. It's about creating a rhythm that resonates with your audience. By staying consistent, you not only maintain visibility but also establish your brand as a reliable source of captivating travel content.

The bottom line: Your Instagram travel reels

As you create your travel reels, experiment with different styles and techniques, and discover what makes your content uniquely you.

Play around with different ideas, and see what resonates with your audience and feels true to your travel brand. Remember, it's about telling your story, your way, and watching as it unfolds into something truly beautiful.

The world is waiting to see your stories unfold.

1. What are Instagram Reels?

Instagram’s newest mobile-only feature — Reels — lets you provide super snackable videos of upto 30 seconds.

Here are the key specifications you need to know:

(i) Length: Upto 30 Seconds (ii) Resolution and aspect ratio: 1080 x 1920/ 9:16 (iii) Reels are mobile-only , which means you can only upload and publish Reels from a mobile device.

Instagram Reels specifications

You can upload a video from your camera roll, or you can shoot it within the app. You can use filters, slo-mo effects, or add music . The Reels feature also allows you to shoot in breaks to set a timer and shoot in different locations, attires, or however you want. Even if you’re uploading a pre-recorded video, you can combine other parts or videos to form a single reel.

Instagram Reels are often referred to as the “middle child” between Instagram stories (videos of upto 15 seconds that disappear after 24 hours, and don’t show up on your feed) and IGTV (long-form videos of upto 10 minutes for regular accounts). Instagram Reels live for longer than 24 hours, and they can be found on your feed.

So far, so good. But how can you use this feature for business, right? Check out InVideo’s Instagram channel for some great ideas or navigate to our 40-odd Instagram Reels ideas for businesses .

Before we get started on making Reels, let’s see where to locate them in the app first.

2. How to Find Trending Reels

Reels can be found and uploaded in many different places on Instagram. Let’s look at the most popular places.

(A) The Instagram Reels   Tab

On your homepage, you’ll find five icons right at the bottom of the screen. The Reels icon sits in a place of prominence — right at the middle, with an icon that looks like a clapboard.

See it? This is the Explore feed for reels. Once you click on it, you’ll find trending Reels, and you can keep scrolling down to find even more.

The Reels with a Featured label are the ones which have been selected by Instagram.

(B) On your Instagram Feed

Look out for that same clapboard icon for posts that appear on your feed from people you follow. Can’t find it? Look closely at the bottom left corner.

(C) Use hashtags to look for Reels

Just type out a specific hashtag into the Instagram search bar, and you’re bound to come across reels using that same hashtag.

Here’s how to do it —

Step 1: Click on the Reel you want to find related content on.

(D) Search by audio

Let the music lead the way. When you tap on the name of the audio track of an Instagram Reel (look at the bottom of the screen), you’ll land upon a page with other reels that use the same audio.

If you really like what you hear, you can just tap on the ‘Use Audio’ button, to use the same track for your own reel.

An audio track can also be saved by hitting the ‘Save Audio’ button, so you can make a video on it later.

(E) Find Reels of a Specific Brand or Business

If you want to look at specific reels for a page, you can visit the page and find a dedicated section of reels with the same clapboard icon. This is similar to how Instagram stores IGTV videos on a personal account.

Check out the reels section on the InVideo Instagram channel for some cool tips & tricks that will help you create videos for your brand easily.

First things first — how to make Reels on Instagram ? Here’s a step-by-step breakdown.

Step 1: Go to your home page, and click the plus button at the top, the way you would if you wanted to add an Instagram Story.

Step 6: Adjust the speed of your video.  We suggest you think of a story-board, like you would with an Instagram Story for business, before you start adding features to your reels. Slowed down videos might look good for some types of Reels, whereas fast-paced videos might look better for others.

Note: Make sure your video is of good quality, because blurry Reels rarely get noticed!

Step 7: Add effects to your Reel!  Filters are a great way to keep things interesting, and can even help enhance the message of your video. A golden glitter filter can add that spark that every proper reveal/promo video deserves, or a contact sheet filter can add to the aesthetics of a trailer. So choose wisely.

Step 8: Lastly, set a timer to your Reel if you want. You can choose between 3-10 seconds for this. By setting a timer, you set up a countdown before Instagram starts recording the Reel.

4. 40+ ways to use Reels for your business

The thing is — it’s always a good idea to tap into the new features because the Instagram algorithm   helps to promote these. At this point — they’re a straight-up growth hack for your business . So don’t sleep on this feature.

What does this mean? Create fresh and original content if you want to show up on the Reels tab, and get ready for it to go viral.

Let’s kick it off with ideas to help your brand grow, regardless of whether you’re an established brand or a start-up in its initial stages. Here are some ideas for inspiration:

(A) 24 Ideas for Brands and Businesses

1. introduce yourself, and your brand.

Get started with the basics — let your followers know all about you and your brand. You can include details like where you’re based, your brand values, and the work you do. Adding catchy music always takes up the energy of the video a notch — check out these examples to get a sense of how you can make this for yourself.

You can also straight-up showcase your work, and let it do the talking for you. Whether you’re a copywriter, a filmmaker, or a photographer, here are over a dozen free InVideo marketing templates that you can edit and use to create a portfolio of your work.

2. Introduce your team

What is a brand without its team members? Let your team members take the spotlight and introduce each of them, the role they play, and the value they add to your team, and perhaps a special quirk or habit they have on a personal level.

Use this template

This builds a stronger sense of solidarity within the team, since every member is recognised for their role, and also familiarises your followers with them.

Check out how Netflix   incorporated a teaser and a meet-the-cast, all in one reel:

This one’s nice to tag your biz squad:

3. Tell your brand story

Instagram is teeming with brands. So what makes yours unique? If you’re solving a problem within an industry, you’ve created something completely original, or you have a brand aesthetic that is completely on-trend right now — this is your chance to show it off.

We love how this entrepreneur, Natasha, has told her story, for instance.

4. Take your audience behind the scenes

Keep your followers up to date with what’s happening by giving them a peek behind the scenes. Everyone likes to understand how things pan out in real time.

You can try and answer questions like what your average day looks like, your current projects, or you can even consider a teaser Instagram Reel to hint at upcoming work that your followers can expect to see soon.

Here’s a ready-to-use template you use to create a teaser for a BTS video. But if you’re still wondering how to create the perfect personalised BTS video, don’t worry, we have many more ideas for you.

5. Tag people in your reels to get noticed!

Tagging the original creator of a challenge, or the inspiration behind your Reel is likely to get you more traction. Here’s a dancer doing the #GirlLikeMe challenge.

This user not only tags Shakira and Black Eyed Peas in her own video, but also encourages her viewers to tag them in their comments. This goes a long way in terms of getting more reach.

Check out how MAC Cosmetics shared a user’s video of how to use their lipstick for a front-row fashion look.

If you’re a fashion brand, you’re in luck — InVideo has over a 100 fashion-related pre-made templates you can edit and use for your Instagram Reels.

6. Use challenges to showcase your products

We’ve seen all kinds of challenges go viral on Instagram. How about leveraging them for your business?

So let’s take Louis Vuitton ; we all know this is one brand that has cracked the best way to use Reels. They get an average of a whopping 4 million views per reel!

So how do they use challenges to their advantage? They use high-quality videos to showcase their products in a fun and fashionable way. We hate to break it to you, but someone has to do it: blurry videos with low-quality editing are not going to get you noticed.

Did you see their popular phone-dropping videos?

 7. Customise the latest trends to your advantage

One trend that works well for brands is the snap trend .

It’s simple — everytime you snap, a different word appears on the screen and at the end of the video, you have a sentence or short paragraph. This can be a fact about yourself, your business or your product. Make sure you pick a song with a groovy beat that you can snap to.

Here’s a user showing his dirty kitchen, and then with one snap, he shows his clean kitchen and adds a filter.

This is a great way to post relatable content with minimal effort. Marketing strategist Alexa Donner ’s Reel can give you a cue, if you’ve been waiting for to get on the snap trend:

There are certain sounds — like whispering voices, paper tearing, and the sound of rain — that evoke emotions of well-being in the listener. This is called ASMR or the autonomous sensory meridian response, and it took over the internet recently.

L’Oreal Paris knew exactly how to ride the wave. Their intricately-created original audio, the close-up of the products, and the sheer aesthetic beauty all use ASMR perfectly!

We understand that it can get overwhelming to keep up with the latest trends, especially if you’re new at content creation. So we have a whole bunch of free pre-made templates lined up for you to choose from.

Remember the famous Vogue trend on TikTok where people converted their photos into Vogue magazine covers?

Or how about the famous In The House trend? We’ve got that covered too.

There was also the Picture trend where you put photos and someone falls in love with you? All you have to do is replace our images with your own.

Try out our favorite trend where you let just a few images finish the sentence, “What I mean when I say I live in…”

In our template , we show “what I mean when I say I live in Alaska.” You can customise it to your city by adding your own photos!

 8. Give tips or insider feedback in your industry

We’re sure you’ve learnt a lot in the process of setting up your brand; so don’t be shy to own it. You can use your knowledge as content for Reels!

9. Relatable Content

If you’re not a big brand with lots of funding, chances are you can’t spend too much money on market research. And that’s where social media can step in. There are many moments that are just so “relatable” even if your audience isn’t filled with business owners in your niche.

Reels are exactly this: bite-sized relatable content. Here, you’ll see even big brands do the same challenges as you.

Here’s a reel by photographer Kasie Marie that went viral.

She usually does explainer reels, but in this one, she just talks about the relatable feeling of counting the views on your posts. So remember to keep it simple; a reel doesn’t have to be a massive production.

The year 2020 sure gave us some celebrities doing really funny, relatable things to light up our social media. Did you see Joe Jonas’ Instagram?

How about Tyra Banks at home giving us hilarious insight into a popular high-fashion pose?

10. “Get to know me” Reels

These are a relaxed and informal version of the brand and team member introductions we touched upon earlier. A small snippet of your life, or a story divided into multiple parts, make for an engaging and relatable experience for your viewers.

It can be reaffirming to share your goals with your audience, and it can also serve as a reminder about what your ethics and hardwork are leading to. Here’s a small business owner Charlotte sharing her goals with everyone:

11. Checklists

Checklists are a great way to take your audience through a process. What are the things you do when you package a shipment? How do you stitch on a custom button? The more intricate the process is, the better the content for a checklist!

12. Listicles

Listicles are such a popular medium today! You can show your audience what your inspirations are, like a list of books you read that helped your business pick up, or entrepreneurs in your field that inspired you. At InVideo, we have a template created exclusively for this.

13. “Day in the life” videos

Don’t confuse these videos with the “introduce yourself” videos. #DayInTheLife is a popular hashtag where you share snippets of a type of day. Some people share their self-care days and weekends to show what they look like outside of their work hours. Others just show the hectic work days, when everything seems challenging.

Imagine this as a chapter from your novel. What kind of a day is important enough to share? And what kind of a day would your audience be interested in?

Here’s Kara Lee , a photographer taking us through a day in her life as a Florida photographer:

Notice how both videos show small aspects of life outside of work, like drinking coffee, going to the gym, chilling about, and taking the pets out for a walk? That’s because these are the fun, relatable moments that can make an audience connect with you.

14. “Outfit of the day” Reels

Even if this has nothing to do with your business, your viewers want to see your relaxed and fun side.

One popular reel trend is people wearing their daily casual clothes and throwing up their shoes in the air to change into their business clothes. It’s a great and fun way to show off your styles. Make sure you get your transitions right, and pick the right song for such a video. Lilly Singh did this for her Jordans by changing from herself into one of her characters.

15. Show a book you’re currently reading

This is great if you have book recommendations for your industry.

Here’s indie publisher Navayana showing off their sale for Dalit History Month by close-ups of their latest book:

16. Motivational Quotes/Inspiration videos

We all need motivation once in a while. If you can get that to your audience with a fun Reel that outlines even a snippet of the hard work you put in, displays your work ethic, or generally puts a positive spin on the challenges that come with running a business, then do it!

We, at InVideo, did one ourselves. Check this out for a laugh:

17. Commentary Videos with the Green-Screen Effect

These are very popular, especially for a news headline. Use the green-screen effect for this. Take a screenshot of the headline you want to discuss, and put it on the green screen and then react to it. This can be a rant, a text, a dance or even just a laugh. This can also work for a myth v/s truth video.

We all have opinions on things, so why not share them, and have a laugh? Have you seen how comedian Abi Clarke highlighted a praise she received? It’s a great plug, plus it’s hilarious.

Kasie Marie is using the green-screen effect for using a screenshot of Instagram Insights to teach her viewers about the best posting times on IG.

FoodScienceBabe often uses the green-screen effect to explain complex equations and debunk myths. Here’s her debunking a popular video about alkalised water changing the pH of your body.

18. Make a holiday/seasonal videos

Holidays are a great time to amp up your business growth and get new followers. Edit and use our free, pre-made calendar templates for year-round celebrations.

And we all know who’s figured that out best, right? Starbucks doesn’t just go all out with their packaging, but also creates Reels that just put you in the mood to pick up a mug of coffee.

If you’re looking to make Christmas or holiday/festival Reels, InVideo’s got you. We have tons of templates for all kinds of festivals for you to edit and use.

And don’t just wait for the big holidays like Christmas. Tap into the spirit of International Women’s Day or find holidays like World Donut Day (whatever floats your boat) and make a Reel. InVideo templates for so many occasions — World Health Day, Mother’s Day , Women’s Day , etc.

We can’t let you leave this section without watching this Lilly Singh Reel for Women’s Day:

19. Post User Generated Content

Regardless of whether you’re a brick-and-mortar shop or an ecommerce store, Reels are a great way to hold contests to keep your followers glued to your account. One way to do this is by posting the winning reels.

This Reel features the luminous Maye Musk :

20. Show off your informal side

Yes, you’re a professional — but you’re a person, too. Probably one who likes to kick back from time to time, so there’s no need to be shy about it. Show your followers how you unwind; relatable content can actually enhance your brand communication.

Red Bull uses stunts and high-quality videos for promos and teasers, as well as really cool videos of the informal or laid-back side of the brand. Check it out!

21. Wanderlust or Travel-Inspiration Videos

The snap transition makes another appearance, this time for travel videos. Here’s a great example of how this travel agency used it in their Reels:

Make your own Reels from scratch on InVideo , with tons of high-quality stock images and stock footage, with this template:

Looking for something more specific? Check out these other template options , and pick your favorite.

22. Expand on the “Why” of your Business

Take a cue from Simon Sinek and elaborate on the reason you started your business in the first place. Use the hashtags #SimonSinek  and # startwithwhy What is the problem you are solving, or the industry gap you are aiming to fill? Share your story with your followers, it’ll lend them some important insight into your business.

23. Show Glimpses of the Creative Process

Whether it’s choreography, painting, construction, chiselling… whatever your art form, reveal parts of your creative process to involve your audience. Show them where the magic happens. This is a variation of the BTS Reel we talked about earlier.

24. Unboxing

Did you just buy new items to create a line of custom products? There are many ways to do the traditional unboxing. The reason this type of video always works is because people feel like they’re opening a present with you. It works great with themes, festivals and funny filters too.

Here’s how Sephora shows us what’s in their vacay set, and what each product can do!

(B) 16 Ideas to Promote your Products

Instagram Reels can be a powerful tool for people to better understand the nuances of your product — if used right. Here are a few ideas to get you started:

1. Product demos

CoverGirl , for instance, showcases their makeup products and uses them for tutorials and demos. They also explain what sets their product apart, and guess what — this is all rolled into just one reel!

Edit and use these ready-to-use templates — they’ll come in handy in creating professional-looking, to-the-point product demos.

2. Tutorials & Educational Content

After you’ve initiated a conversation with your followers, and zeroed in on a gap in their knowledge or understanding, you can make relevant tutorials and guides based on your knowledge area.

We’re talking about everything from how-to’s, dos and don’ts, to myth-busters, statistics and research. Myth v/s Truth Reels are very popular on Instagram right now, especially with #YupNope trend.

Check out how Sephora does their tutorials:

Educating your followers is a fantastic way to increase engagement; it goes hand-in-hand. Your content can be tips about your product or the research surrounding your product.

You can use the ‘talking head’ format — where you film yourself talking about each tip as well as putting important text in the frame — which is simple and easy to digest.

Here’s how self-help creator Matt D'Avella uses this format to create videos around productivity and growth:

Keep it light — educational videos don’t have to be wordy explainers. They can be small skits and make for funny content too!

You can edit and use these pre-made templates for making videos on tips.

3. Get Influencers Involved

You can reach out to influencers or micro-influencers and ask them to make reels about your product, and then reshare these with the corresponding captions and hashtags.

Here’s Fashion Blogger Lena Daniels promoting her favourite small shop WhatevaLola through the hashtag #supportsmallbusinesses through an unboxing video of the products they sent her.

4. Product Teasers

This is a teaser to pique the interest of your followers, and to keep them tuned in to what’s coming next. Make sure your preview is enticing and doesn’t give away too many details about your product before the launch!

You can use this template for this idea to create a sense of curiosity in your audience, choosing from thousands of stock images and stock videos to find and use the ones that fit the bill.

5. Countdown to a Special Event

You could even use some of InVideo’s countdown templates to count down to a product release, a sale, or even your organisation’s anniversary.

Have you watched ‘Pretend It’s a City’ on Netflix? Their teaser is one we love!

6. Mini Q & A

Again, the #YupNope trend can work really well with the Reels format, because it can answer questions in a way that’s short and snackable for the audience.

7. Reels to Announce Sales/Discounts/Giveaways

Using Reels to announce these creates a feeling of exclusivity for your followers, which leads to more chances of them returning to your page.

Here’s how Sephora promoted their sale :

You’re in luck — we have the perfect pre-made InVideo templates for this; for giveaways , sales , discounts and tons of templates for promo codes , too.

8. Hyperlapse videos

Moving time lapse videos or hyperlapse videos are created by the camera moving considerable distances during the time of capture, to create and capture motion paths including camera angle changes. It’s much like a tracking shot, really, and you can use this format to promote your products.

Combined with thumb-stopping music, this is how captivating it can be:

9. Products in Action

This can just be people using your products. Like if it’s sneakers, then you can just create and post Reels of people walking on different types of roads.

Here’s a small runway walk that shows the model in different clothes. Although Zina isn’t showing off her own products, but putting styles together, this is an idea worth taking a cue from, for your own products.

10. Behind-the-Scenes Footage

Trust us — you can have behind-the-scenes footage for days; there are just so many ways to spin this and leverage it to promote your products. We’ve already discussed this before. But there’s just so many ways to mould this idea. Here are a few, off the top of our heads —

Idea #1 - Shoot the Concepts Behind your Production

Check out how this accessories store called Carly’s Corner showcases the behind-the-scenes of a shoot:

People are curious about what goes on behind a production — so give them a glimpse into not just the triumphs, but also the hilarious goof-ups and mistakes. You can go all out and use the below template to a make a Bloopers Reel:

Idea #2 - BTS of the Making of the Product

We suggest you use a trending song so you’re most likely to be noticed in the algorithm. Does a song fit the mood of the process you’re working on currently?

Here’s block print and textile brand Gitto   showing off their gorgeous hand-block printing process:

Idea #3 - BTS of Packaging and Shipping

Use this idea to make a Reel that’s kind of like a reverse unboxing.

Do you use cute fillers to package your items? Or is your packaging eco-friendly? That would add to your appeal. Especially for a small business, what are the nifty cost-cutting measures you use when you ship your products? Are there unique ways in which you keep your product safe?

Check out how Carly’s Corner showcases the packaging of their client gift boxes:

Idea #4 - Film a BTS for Custom Pieces

What’s the story behind your product? What prompted your client to order this specific item, and did you run into any issues while creating it?

What did you enjoy about this process most? Spill the beans in the Reel.

11. This or That videos

This is a super simple way to showcase multiple variations of the same product. Ask your viewers — do they prefer one colour over the other? If — say — it’s a reversible jacket, which side do they prefer? Make it into a poll and link it to your story for added reach.

12. Shoutout Reels for Other Brands’ Products

There’s a bunch of permutations and combinations you can try out.

If your product is a foldable table, what kind of vase would go best on it? Or which brand’s table cover? This is a great way to link to other small businesses (likely with complementary products) you’re collaborating with. Go ahead and create a shout out Reel!

Tyra Banks did a shout-out reel for an ice-cream brand, for instance:

13. Before / After Videos

This can work for all kinds of products. Take spaces, for instance.

If you have a new workspace, you can show your old workspace and contrast it with your new one. It’s a great way to show that your business is growing, and to keep your followers updated on what it looks like. You can even use the green screen effect for this idea and point to different images.

14. Show how your product solves a problem

Pinpoint the unique features of your product. This can be a before-after video too, especially if you provided a solution for an existing problem. In that case, show the problem first, and then depict how your product solves that. Don’t be afraid to have fun with it.

You can take a cue from this jaw-dropping before/after Reel that Foxterra Design made:

15. Show close-ups of your products

Really focus on all the small details a customer might be interested in. Since most people are shopping online, they would want to get as close to feeling the product in their hands. Here’s a template you can use to show the intricacies and designs of your products.

Here’s a how a jewellery brand showcases their earring collection in their Reel:

16. Create Reels of the Lifestyle Around the Product

If it’s a bath bomb, show the tub with candles and a book and mood lighting, and really paint a picture for the audience. Here’s another opportunity to link back to complementary products!

40 Instagram Reels ideas— CHECK! Now, let’s step it up a notch with Instagram Reels Remix.

5. How to use Instagram Reels Remix

You have to give it to Instagram — they do know how to keep us on our toes, with every new feature that comes out. Similar to Tik Tok’s duet feature, Instagram Reels remix , released in March, 2021, allows you to “remix” another account’s reel. Their reel will appear on one side of the screen, and your reel, in the other half.

How to use Instagram Reels Remix

Source: Instagram

The idea is simple — this feature allows you to react or respond to another reel, or put your own spin on things. The Reels will be shown side-by-side, and will play at the same time. Think singing challenges, virtual dance offs, and a whole lot of interaction.

So how do you make an Instagram Reels Remix ? Here’s how:

All set? We’ve got more ideas for you — this time, for Instagram Reels Remixes.

(6) 5 cool ideas for you to use Reels Remix

According to Instagram , “Whether you’re capturing your reaction, responding to friends or bringing your own magic to trends, Remix is another way to collaborate on Instagram.”

So it’s all about reactions and putting your own spin on things. Here are a few ideas to get you started —

(A) A Virtual Dance Tutorial or Dance-off

Put on your dancing shoes for this one! It’s all about matching your steps and timing with a previous Reel, and putting out your own version once you’ve learnt how to pull off the dance routine. Pretty impressive when you watch the Reels playing side-by-side, in real-time.

With so many of us around the world in lockdown again, a virtual dance-off is a great way to spend time with your friends online, engaged in a virtual dance-off.

(B) Funny Reaction Snippets

Who doesn’t like a good, responsive audience? People who are inherently performers are missing their live audiences lately; Instagram Reels Remixes might just be the next best thing.

(C) Singing Duets or Having Singalongs

Calling all musicians — this Reels Remix trend needs your participation. Bring your instruments, and your sick beats to this duet, it’s a great way to have a blast with your musician friends online.

(D) Work out together

Fitness enthusiasts — here’s a way for you to ride this Reels Remix wave. You can respond to someone else’s workout with you doing the same routine. What better time than now to get fit?

(E) Find A Wacky Way to Send a Message

The idea behind Instagram Remix Reels is to collaborate and get wacky together. So find a way to convey your message with some flair and quirk. Keep it light, to-the-point, and relatable.

The Reel Remix above is a great example that illustrates that not every single Reel Remix needs to be a reaction. Flex your creative muscles; you can have one person dancing and the other talking, like Armiel Chandler and Taylor Cassidy did.

Get started making your own Instagram Reels Remixes; we have a feeling this feature is here to stay.

15 Instagram Reels Caption Ideas For Travel Videos

POV: You booked that flight.

A woman takes an Instagram Reel of a sunset while traveling in a camper van. These are the best Inst...

Your perfectly planned vacation outfits are coming to life at your destination, and you’re getting fire footage that you can’t wait to share with your followers — only, caption got your tongue. The combination of jet-lag and margarita brain is making it very hard for you to come up with something witty or meaningful to say about your travels, which is really holding up your posting game. Instagram Reels is a great landing place for travel footage , because it’s more permanent than Stories, but won’t clog up your main grid. If you’re feeling particularly sentimental about your trip and want to save and share as much of it as possible, creating a scrapbook via 60-second Reels will give you something pretty special to look back at. The best Instagram Reels captions for travel will complement your sun-dappled # vacationgrams and leave your followers intrigued to keep watching.

If you have the time and mental clarity to opt for a lengthy, personal caption, detailing special moments or realizations you’ve had on your trip, power to you. But if your video speaks for itself and doesn’t need much context — save maybe a location pin or hashtag — you can get away with a generalized caption that lets people know what when they click play they’re going to get a taste of your trip . Here are some captions that will help your vacation stand out on Instagram Reels.

1. Greetings from...

If your video footage is basically a postcard, insert your location into this simple caption for a straightforward approach.

2. An upgraded view

When you’re sharing a particularly epic view — a summit at sunrise, a candy-colored beach sunset, a fairytale garden scene — this caption is perfectly understated, and yet suspenseful.

3. Roll the tapes

Finally edited together all of the best shots from your big trip? Your followers have been waiting for that vacation content, give them what they want!

4. Out of Office

If you’ve escaped corporate life for a bit and found yourself in some whimsical treehouse or beach hut, this caption will serve as a cheeky contrast from your typical florescent-lit content.

5. Sea you soon

A little beach pun never hurt anyone.

6. Vacation mode: Activated

Once you get to your destination, unpack and slip on a robe or fill up the hotel tub with too many bubbles, you’re officially on vacation time.

7. On the road again

When you’re road tripping, this caption lets people know what you’re doing, without giving away too much — they’ll have to click play to learn more.

8. Eating my way through...

Insert your destination into the caption to share drool-worthy footage of a table with too many plates, or a montage of your favorite vacation meals.

9. Drinking my way through...

Did you just so happen to capture enough cheersing to create a montage? Insert the name of your destination into the title to show your followers what boozing in this destination looks like.

10. Catch flights, not feelings

Vacationing your way through a break up? This independent caption says a lot, without saying too much.

11. I want to live in this moment forever

That one travel video that you can’t stop rewatching because it makes you so happy deserves a caption this sappy.

12. Cabin life

For footage of actual cabin life, or very fancy life, if you’re partial to wit.

13. POV: You booked that flight.

A fast-paced clip montage of your trip’s highlights will inspire your friends and followers to do as the caption says.

14. Chasing sunsets

Did you just get back from your trip and realize that 90% of your videos are sunsets? No problem, lean into the theme.

The Gen Z word for “memories” is somehow a less cheesy option for a collection of highlights from your trip with no specific theme or order.

Instagram Reels – how to use them for travel brands and destinations

Instagram launched Reels in early August, since then you may have noticed them featuring more prominently on your feed. Whether you’re a travel brand or destination, incorporating the new feature into your social media strategy is a great way to stand out from your competitors. Not sure where to begin? Keep reading for our advice on how to make them work for a travel audience.

What are Instagram Reels and why should I use them?

Instagram Reels are 15 second video clips that can be filmed, or uploaded, via the Instagram app. To create a Reel, all you have to do is click the camera top left of your Instagram homepage, select ‘REELS’ from the options at the bottom of your screen and then film or upload whatever you want.

Once your content is ready, you can add text or audio to it, then upload it to the platform. You can select to share it to your main feed as well to increase the visibility of your videos.

To put it plainly, every time Instagram launches a new feature they tend to give it priority on the app. This means that the brands and people able to create engaging content for Reels (and do it consistently) will likely be able to increase their reach and grow much faster than those who don’t.

Therefore, if social media is an important aspect of your marketing strategy, then you should be creating content for Reels right now.

How do I create content for Reels?

There’s two options for creating content for Reels – filming something within the app and then uploading it or uploading an already edited 15 second clip to the app. The dimensions are 9:16 (which then crops to 4:5 if you share to your main feed), so keep this in mind when filming and editing your clips.

Filming within the app allows you to shoot footage in time to your selected music. Just pick a song, and you can then film your shots as it plays. You can also use Story filters on these clips, which could help you to keep your content cohesive if you already have specific ones you use. The timeline at the top of the screen will indicate how much you have left of the 15 seconds to fill as you stop and start filming.

Uploading content to the app will allow for you to be a bit more precise with your editing, or make use of content you already have available. Whether it’s an inspiring quote from one of your team members or some breath-taking views, you can upload clips up to 15 seconds in length and then add music and text to them as you wish.

Make sure your content is informative and/or aesthetically pleasing to engage the Instagram audience. Ideally, you’ll want to stick to videos that build upon the content you already share on your main feed.

Once you’re happy with your Reel, you can choose a cover image from the video itself or upload one. If you’re going to make a series out of your Reels, why not create cover images to keep them all uniform? Again, keep in mind the dimensions, and the way it will crop for your main feed when creating these.

How can travel brands and destinations create engaging Reels?

The key to engaging Reels is creating something in line with what your audience already enjoys seeing from you.

Do they come to you for beautiful destination shots? Why not share video snippets of the most calming, energising or intriguing areas?

If they come to you for sustainable travel products, some reels with info on sustainable ingredients or your products in use may be best.

Focus on either inspiring or educating your audience with your Reels and you will be on to a winner. If you are going to inspire, stick to beautiful visuals and keep your captions brief. If you are going to educate, break your message down to 4-5 short statements that you can display at different points in the Reel to keep your audience engaged.

Make sure you’re using your brand hashtags, and any other relevant travel ones, in your captions. This will increase the reach of your Reels and may even help to attract a new audience to your content.

We can’t wait to see your Reel content, let us know in the comments how you get on and what other social media topics you would like us to cover on the Hub.

How Do You Make A Good Travel Reel?

Making a good travel reel, Insta story or TikTok doesn’t have to be difficult. You’ll naturally capture visually stunning content since you’re already travelling to epic destinations.

If you want to try and jazz up your reels and content, here are some tips to help:

  • Use different angles to create different perspectives (try wide angle.)
  • Check out some of the trending reels and stories for inspiration.
  • Add text, like titles and inspirational captions if you feel the viewer can benefit.
  • Choose an epic song for your travel reel from the list I just gave you.
  • Don’t let filters overpower your content.
  • Edit for the timing of the music if this adds to the flow.

Apart from that, the best advice is to just have fun with it. Remember that content is a result of your travel experiences, not the other way around!

What Exactly Are Travel Reel Songs?

Travel reel songs are trending music used in Instagram Reels to create entertaining and engaging vacation content. Using popular songs that evoke a sense of excitement or wanderlust can help bring your adventure reels to life and make them more appealing to your audience.

However, if you want to get engaging travel songs for Instagram reels, there are three options. They are as follows.

  • Use music that complements the vibe of your brand.
  • Make use of viral music.
  • Make use of background music.

How to find the right music to match the vibe of your brand

Finding the right music to match the vibe of your brand is essential for creating reels that resonate with your followers. The songs you select should fit the overall tone and message you want to convey.

cool travel reels

Furthermore, the following are methods that will help you find music that matches your brand:

  • Define the personality and values of your brand: Is your brand modern and edgy or traditional and classic? Do you want to exude vigour, sophistication, or relaxation? Finding music that matches your brand will be easier once you understand its personality and values.
  • Investigate your target audience: Select music from genres and eras your target audience enjoys. For example, classic rock songs may appeal to Baby Boomers, whereas recent pop hits are more likely to appeal to Millennials and Gen Z.
  • Seek inspiration: Look through music blogs and playlists to find new and emerging artists who fit the vibe of your brand.
  • Test and refine: Once you’ve chosen some potential tracks, run them by your target audience to see how they react.

How to use viral sounds to expand reach and engagement

Using popular sounds and music on Reels is a simple way to boost views and engagement. People enjoy discovering new songs and sounds, so highlighting what is currently popular or trending is an excellent strategy.

cool travel reels

Furthermore, the following are methods for obtaining viral sounds for your Instagram reels:

  • A trending TikTok sound : Reusing popular TikTok sounds on Reels is a simple way to capitalise on their popularity.
  • A new song snippet: When a famous artist releases a new song, posting a short clip on Reels within a day or two of its release allows you to capitalise on the hype.
  • A sound from a recently released film or TV show: Profit from the popularity of movies, TV shows, characters, or quotes.
  • A sound of a viral meme: Meme sounds and catchphrases are notorious for spreading like wildfire across platforms. Including one in your Reel can increase its visibility and shares.
  • To get trending IG songs, follow @creators and @reelstips : On Fridays, they upload a lot of viral Instagram trends.

How to make Instagram reels with background music

Are you tired of using the same sound as everyone else? Do you want something unique for your brand? Here’s an idea: use background music for reels.

cool travel reels

Here are some ideas to help you go viral:

  • Voiceovers: Your voice is a potent tool, and including a voiceover in your reel can help bring your travel experiences to life. Your voiceover should be exciting and informative while complementing the visuals in your reel.
  • Use soft and mellow instrumentals: Mellow, soft instrumentals are ideal for travel-themed reels. They create a soothing and relaxing environment that transports viewers to your location.
  • Make use of nature sounds: The sound of waves crashing against the shore, birds chirping in the morning, or rain falling on leaves can enhance the immersion of your footage.

Note: Keep your reel short and sweet – aim for 15-30 seconds – and always make sure the music and sounds you use are licensed for commercial use or fall under fair use guidelines.

6 Examples of Great Reel ideas for Tourism Businesses

  • Greater returns from social media
  • business improvement , content , digital transformation , images & video , instagram

Reel Ideas for Tourism Businesses

Reels are a new way to create and discover short, entertaining videos on Instagram. They have become increasingly popular since 2020 and even more so since the head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri announced in July 2021 that Instagram is “no longer a photo-sharing app.”

Unlike Instagram photos, videos, IGTV and stories, Instagram Reels yield traffic, engagement and views weeks after you post them. As such, they are a great tool for businesses as they even get better organic reach than regular posts. Particularly since they were created to compete with TikTok, which means that Instagram rewards those who use it by showing it to more people! Hence why there is a Reel tab at the bottom of your Instagram mobile app (front and centre).

Still, need more reasons to incorporate Reels into your marketing strategy?

  • Reels allow you to be creative as you want using music, stickers and transitions
  • It provides a way for businesses to showcase their service and product-based work that allows users to connect with the brands’ personality
  • They are extremely shareable and engaging

Fortunately for you, we have collected 6 amazing reel ideas from various tourism businesses including accommodation, tour, attraction, travel and regional tourism organisations across Australia to help you grow your account organically.

View this post on Instagram   A post shared by Tourism Marketing & Coaching (@tourismtribe)

Each of these examples demonstrates the various ways of creating content that is both appealing, effective and aligns with Instagram’s new algorithm changes.

We’d like to thank all the businesses featured in this guide. Hopefully, these reels help to inspire other operators to take their Instagram content to the next level.

Example 1 – Tour Business

Filming a behind-the-scenes/live demonstration of your tours can help entice potential and returning visitors to your business and region…especially during lockdowns when users are looking for a bit of travel inspiration.

In this example,  @max_homer captures both the region and tour activities perfectly to elicit a feeling of adventure and fun.

Example 2 – Regional Tourism Organisations

Combine trending audio with short, engaging video clips to provide value as this is what will make your reel go viral and become highly shareable.

In this example,  @mymelbournediary  uses these techniques to showcase her top ten places in Melbourne.

View this post on Instagram   A post shared by My Melbourne Diary ✨ (@mymelbournediary)

Example 3 – Attraction Business

Take users on a journey through your business and attraction to set expectations, add additional information and build awareness of your business.

This reel is super simple to create, as it does not require text or voiceover because just watching the process of  @mymelbournediary  navigating through the attraction is self‑explanatory and entertaining enough!

Example 4 – Travel Inspiration

The combination of calm music and short video clips makes the reel magical and inspirational.

Traveller bloggers such as @kendallbaggerly are great at representing travellers’ experiences through their own eyes. Adding their expertise in filming and capturing life’s amazing moments.

View this post on Instagram   A post shared by Kendall ???? Travel & Vanlife (@kendallbaggerly)

Example 5 – Tourism Innovation & Entertainment

Cultivating a creative, innovative and entertaining reel can help propel your video content onto the explore page and consequently to your greater target audience ‑ who are not yet following you.

In this example,  @max_homer  uses Google Maps to create this captivating reel to share his travel journey through a unique and innovative lens.

Example 6 – Accommodation Business

Showcasing your accommodation through video with music as opposed to still images can spark interest and stop users from scrolling.

Videos like this from  @mtbundystation  can also be used on your website to add an additional and entertaining component to your accommodation page that offers more insight and information.

Practice, Practice, Practice!

We hope you have enjoyed these great reel ideas for tourism businesses.

We know that learning to master new features can be daunting that’s why we have updated our Foundational Digital Bizkeeper 101 course and our Individual Instagram course to include everything you need to know about creating and editing a reel.

Remember, practice makes perfect and just because you don’t get it right the first time, doesn’t mean it will never work for your business! Try to remember to not overcomplicate things, be yourself and have fun with them.

Your first Reels don’t need to feature fancy transitions or multiple blocks of text to be effective. Don’t forget to tag @tourismtribe in your reel/description so we can give your first Reel some love. ❤️

moscow map

If you look at the modern map of Moscow you’ll see that the city consists of 4 parts that are formed by 4 main ring avenues connected by several major radial avenues. Moscow’s central point also known as “Kilometer Zero” is marked by the bronze plaque located near The Kremlin and Red Square.

Here are 4 main “Ring Roads” of Moscow

  • Boulevard Ring Road - goes around the whole historic part of Moscow. That’s where you’ll find all major attractions, old Moscow buildings and museums. “Boulevard Ring” is split into several parts that have different names like Petrovsky Boulevard or Gogolevsky Boulevard.
  • Garden Ring Road (“Sadovoe Koltso”) – covers a slightly broader area of the city. Everything referred to as Moscow center is assumed to be located inside the “Garden Ring Avenue”. “Garden Ring” is also split into parts that have different names.
  • Third Ring Road – the area between the “Garden Ring Road” and the 3rd Ring Road is adjacent to the central part of Moscow. Neighborhoods located inside 3rd Ring Road have an easy access to the center of the city. The area includes several notable high class residential neighborhoods and parks: Khamovniki District, Park Gorkogo and Luzhniki.
  • Moscow Ring Road . The substantial part of Moscow is located between the “Third Ring Road” and the outermost “Moscow Ring Road (MKAD)”. The area consists mostly of residential neighborhoods with multi story buildings and social infrastructure like schools, hospitals and department stores. The closer you get to the “Moscow Ring” the further you get from the center of the Moscow.

Some notable tourist spots located inside the 3rd Ring Avenue are Moscow State University, Sparrow Hills , Park Tsaritsino , Park Kolomenskoe, Izamilovo, Ostankino and several others.

Everything outside Moscow Ring Road (MKAD) is not considered Moscow except the newly merged “New Moscow” territory located south-west of the city.

17 Top Tourist Attractions in Moscow

By Alex Schultz · Last updated on May 4, 2024

The capital of Russia is an incredible place to explore. Visitors to Moscow come away spellbound at all the amazing sights, impressed at the sheer size and grandeur of the city. Lying at the heart of Moscow, the Red Square and the Kremlin are just two of the must-see tourist attractions; they are the historical, political and spiritual heart of the city – and indeed Russia itself.

A fascinating city to wander around, stunning cathedrals, churches, and palaces lie side-by-side with bleak grey monuments and remains from the Soviet state. In addition to its plethora of historical and cultural tourist attractions, Moscow is home to world-class museums, theaters and art galleries.

Renowned for its performing arts, fantastic ballets and amazing circus acts, catching a show while in Moscow is a must. The wealth of brilliant restaurants, trendy bars, and lively nightlife means there is something for everyone to enjoy.

17. Tsaritsyno Palace

Tsaritsyno Palace

Once the summer residence of Catherine the Great, the stunning Tsaritsyno Palace is now a museum-reserve. The architecture is magnificent and there is a lovely park surrounding it for visitors to explore.

Located in the south of Moscow, the palace was commissioned in 1775 and recent renovations mean its lavish interior looks better than ever before with its elegant halls and beautiful staircases.

The exhibits on display look at the life of the empress as well as the history of Tsaritsyno itself. The huge palace grounds are also home to some other delightful buildings with the elegant opera house and wonderful brickwork of the Small Palace being particularly impressive to gaze upon.

VDNKh

Starting out in 1935 as the ‘All-Union Agricultural Exhibition’, VDNKh has slowly morphed over the years into the fascinating open-air museum of today. Remarkably, over 400 buildings can now be found within its confines.

The huge park complex has numerous pavilions representing former Soviet republics on show, such as those of Armenia and Turkmenistan and the distinctive architecture of each of the buildings is always interesting to gaze upon. In addition to this there is the fascinating Memorial Museum of Cosmonautics which is dedicated to space exploration and the fun Moskvarium aquarium even offers you the chance to swim with dolphins.

With lots of eateries scattered about and numerous entertainment options such as horse-riding and zip-lining, there is something for everyone to enjoy; the Friendship of Nations fountain truly is wonderful.

15. Kremlin Armoury

3. Moscow Kremlin

Moscow Kremlin

This famously fortified complex is remarkably home to five palaces and four cathedrals and is the historic, political and spiritual center of the city. The Kremlin serves as the residence for the country’s president. It has been used as a fort, and this fact is made clear by its sheer size. The Kremlin’s outer walls were built in the late 1400s.

Under Ivan III, better known as Ivan the Great, the Kremlin became the center of a unified Russian state, and was extensively remodeled. Three of the Kremlin’s cathedrals date to his reign that lasted from 1462-1505. The Deposition Church and the Palace of Facets were also constructed during this time. The Ivan the Great Bell Tower was built in 1508. It is the tallest tower at the Kremlin with a height of 266 feet (81 meters).

Joseph Stalin removed many of the relics from the tsarist regimes. However, the Tsar Bell, the world’s largest bell, and the Tsar Cannon, the largest bombard by caliber in the world, are among the remaining items from that era. Ivan the Terrible ordered the cathedral’s construction in the mid-16th century, and legend holds that Ivan put out the architect’s eyes so that he would be unable to build another cathedral more glorious than St. Basil’s. Designed to resemble the shape of a bonfire in full flame, the architecture is not only unique to the period in which it was built but to any subsequent period. For various reasons, both Napoleon and Stalin wanted to destroy the cathedral but fortunately did not succeed.

Known for its various colors, shapes and geometric patterns, St. Basil’s Cathedral houses nine different chapels that are all connected by a winding labyrinth of corridors and stairways. On the lower floor, St. Basil’s Chapel contains a silver casket bearing the body of St. Basil the Blessed.

Throughout the cathedral are many beautiful murals, frescoes, wooden icons and other art works and artifacts. Outside the cathedral is a lovely garden with the bronze Monument to Minin and Pozharsky, who rallied an all-volunteer Russian army against Polish invaders during a period of the late 16th century known as the Times of Troubles.
