Tourists and residents alike can take advantage of the many cruises that depart from New York City, offering easy access to warm weather getaways, family vacations, expeditions, and more. After all, nothing screams adventure like sailing away from the Big Apple with the Statue of Liberty and iconic city skyline in your wake.

Plus, New York is home to the oldest cruise terminal in the United States. Nowadays, there are two hubs, one in Manhattan and another in Brooklyn . An additional cruise terminal, in Cape Liberty in Bayonne, New Jersey, also serves the area.

The Manhattan cruise terminal is located on the edge of Midtown, making it easy to spend port days or pre-cruise time exploring Times Square, Central Park, or the Theater District. The Empire State Building and iconic department stores including Macy’s Herald Square are also within walking distance of the Manhattan cruise port.

The Brooklyn cruise port is a 15-minute drive from Brooklyn Bridge Park , which offers some of the best views of downtown Manhattan. If you're looking to stretch your legs, the walk across the Brooklyn Bridge into Manhattan offers just over a mile of picturesque city viewpoints. While Bayonne, New Jersey may not be a huge tourist destination, sailing from Cape Liberty does provide a postcard-perfect look at the Manhattan skyline and its famous neighbor, the Statue of Liberty.

Norwegian Prima is one of the best cruises for solo travelers departing from New York City.

On most cruise lines, traveling solo means paying up to double the fare for a cabin to yourself, but not on the Norwegian Prima . This ship has a special area set aside for solo travelers with 73 studio suites and a private common area for mingling. Each of the Norwegian Prima’s 95-square-foot studio suites comes with a full-size bed, en suite bathroom, and a vanity table. And while space inside these studios are tight, you’ll likely be so busy go-karting, lounging by the pool, taking in shows, and relaxing in hot tubs, it’s unlikely you’ll find yourself spending much time in the room beyond catching some shut eye. The Norwegian Prima sails to Bermuda and the Caribbean from New York and offers a transatlantic repositioning itinerary.Best transatlantic cruise from New York

Cruising from New York in January--weather??

We are considering a few cruises, one of which being a 7 nighter out of New York on Explorer on Dec. 30. The price is pretty good, considering the cruise sails over New Year's, but I wanted to know how many "pool" weather days we will actually have. Is it warm enough to sit outside by day 2? What about the second to last day? Thank you in advance.

done it twice in January. Your first sea day is an inside day mostly. Think cool spring weather. second day in afternoon is more likely to be outside a bit - but it tends to be windy and not great for sitting by the pool, more for walking, skating, sports deck. repeat in opposite coming back. We did it as a 9 and 10 day trips and had plenty of warm days in the middle. For a 7 day triip, unless they are going full speed to get south as quickly as possible, you will have some nice spring but not pool days as the bookends of the trip.

CaptData

Thonk 3 days in the middle only for sure. Then sometimes mid afternoon of the other days. if not to windy.

You can rule out the first day after leaving New York and the day before arriving in New York as pool days. The second day out and the second to last day of the cruise can be outdoor days.

I agree that your first and last sea days are going to be spend indoors or bundled up outside (it is not going to be pool weather). Although you can certainly take advantage of the hot tubs!

What is dicey is the second sea day (morning) and second to the last sea day (afternoon)....it all depends on the weather down south. If there is a cold snap in the Carolina's/Fla it might be chilly as well.

We sailed out of NY in Feb once, it sucked and we'll never do it again. Half the cruise was spent wearing a jacket and staggering down the halls from the rough winter seas.

Marie51

I sailed out of NY to Bermuda one time in September and never again. It was cold and windy, could not go outside unless you were wearing winter clothes. When we got to Bermuda the weather was great, but coming and going was miserable.

I would love to go to Bermuda again but not this way!

As for pool days.....I don't think so.

Priusprof

I can't figure why people sail from NY in the winter. The Atlantic is rough in the winter and the best that you can expect is 3 warm days in the middle. If you are determined to go in the winter the good news is that Voyager class ships have lots to do inside.

We have sailed out of Bayonne many many times and as you have picked the seven day Holiday cruise and for the ports it is going to, not the best cruise to be going on for looking for sun and fun and tan. When you leave Bayonne in the winter months the warm air doesn't usually hit until second day at sea when you are down off lower SC then into GA and FL. If the jet stream is higher you could get warmer air later in the day on second day but it sure isn't bathing suit weather yet. It's the luck of the draw. Now it is a great price for the holiday tho. I personally love the ship and love the crew. Go and enjoy and relax. You will have a great time and don't worry about the weather. It is what it is. You can leave out of florida and it be much cooler and raining the entire cruise too.

You may not have pool weather at all on the cruise. We've done the holiday cruise but it was a 12 day and went much further south. The way down was a little rocky. The way back was fine until we had to divert for a medical emergency and hit a storm. After the storm the water was smooth as glass. We've also done a holiday cruise from San Diego to Hawaii and that was the worst seas ever. I'm surprised I am still cruising. Moral is that you never know.

We also did a thanksgiving cruise and I don't remember rough seas. I do remember beautiful beach days in Nassau and the RCCL private island.

New Years Eve on the ship was FANTASTIC.

I would NOT pay for a balcony. It will probably be too chilly and windy. I would book an inside and take advantage of all the wonderful entertainment and inside activities on sea days. If you like to read, I would go to the adult pool which is not fully covered but should be comfortable by the second afternoon.

Would I do it again. Yes. We are booked for the Thanksgiving holiday cruise in an inside stateroom.

patseacruiser

EGG - when were you on the holiday sailing? We were on for 2007/2008 holiday and had the same problem on the Explorer - medical emergency and got back very late.

I don't like how they broke it into 2 seven day cruises just to basically get more money on the deal. In January you may not get any really good outside days since it's only going as far as Nassau.

Patseacruiser - Probably the same cruise although I can't remember the year but I think 3 years ago. The ship turnd around during early seating and went 4 hours out of its way to Puerto Rico. I always wanted to do that cruise again but I guess it is not to be. It was my Times Square on a cruise ship, scrunched with so many people on the Royal Promenade. Didn't have to freeze or wait there all day. My husband stayed up for the first New Year's in 15 years and he also loved it. At 12:30 we were in our cabin. Our tablemates on the other hand, a couple our age from England and a young Irish couple on their honeymoon stayed up together until 4 in the morning and were still partying at dinner the next evening.

I can only speculate as to why they made it 2 cruises. Possibly, half the passengers were Europeans and they wanted to spend extra days in NYC rather than on the ship.

Stags14

Everyone seems to be sugar coating this for you, but I'll be honest - I wouldn't waste my vacation days for this one. I live just outside of NYC and the weather from Dec-Feb is pretty much miserable. We had about 5 feet of snow this January - you will not be outside, whatsoever. You MIGHT enjoy being outside on day 2 or 3 but it's doubtful it will be poolside.

Even in Miami this time of year it's in the lower to mid 70's... it's not going to be an enjoyable cruise if you're thinking poolside with frozen daquari's listening to the band. Not until you get down to the Caribbean.

My adivise is don't do it - there's a reason why it's inexpensive. And Manhattan is absolutely miserable also this time of year - the wind whips through the buildings and attacks you like a sub zero wall of horribleness. Trust me.

Your profile says you're from LI... you should know all of this.

I don't think I am sugar coating this at all. If you noticed I said they might not have pool weather at all on this cruise and not to waste money on a balcony because of the anticipated weather. I've cruised out of NY 5 times and only had bad weather/seas one time and that was what I just described.

Personally, I would not take this cruise if I wanted to sit out in the sun drinking. But many of us don't go on cruises to sit out in the sun on the pool deck. I go on a cruise for everything else that is included in the cruise fare. We play bridge and the longer Explorer cruises usually have a bridge director. We usually go to the other lectures if they don't conflict with bridge. We play trivia, dance lessons and we always go to all the shows after dinner. Explorer has an inside promenade and some of the bands and parades and activities that you might find outside on other cruise ships they have indoors. Other fun activities I remember were dancing in the streets, parades, Xmas carols that reverberated through the ship, Santa parade with the children getting presents from Santa in the ice skating rink with snow coming down from the ceiling, and the ice skating shows and ice skating. I even go to a movie or 2 since I never do this at home. We go for those and not to sit by the pool. I do however like to find a lounge chair and read and nap for a few hours a day and that is why I said that the adult pool, which is partially covered, is usually a good place for this, even if I need a sweatshirt and long pants.

So each person needs to decide what he wants from a cruise and then choose what is the best fit for them. That is why OP asked the question about the weather.

Winter clothes in September???? Wow - bad luck on your part. I have lived in NJ all my life and can guarantee you that is NOT the norm. Our Labor Day is just as hot as our Memorial Day...

crooksy532

Have sailed out of Bayonne two times, both in the winter and LOVED IT!! The feeling of knowing that by the afternoon tomorrow you will be out on the pool deck is so cool. One time we left with many inches of snow and came back to the same thing. Disembarked with a tan and snowflakes on my head.

Despite the winter weather, on the afternoon of Day 2 we are always on the pool deck in our bathing suits. Yes, it may be a little windy, and you may have to wear a cover-up but you can still enjoy the sunshine. We are young so it doesn't bother us to be a little chilly. The pool will be freezing, but your body gets used to it, and the hot tubs are always another option.

If the price is right, don't let the 2 days of chilly weather stop you from taking this cruise. Day 1 will mostly be spent touring the options on the ship, eating, and unpacking anyway. We like to take that down time to get everything straight with excursions, entertainment, dining, and every other possible thing to do on the ship. (Oh, and the liquor tasting takes up some of our time too :)) If you had a pool day every day you never get the time to explore all the cool things on the ship.

Saracruise

We are sailing on the Explorer for the second time in January on the 1/6/12 sailing...you get 7 more nights and deeper into the Caribbean than on the 7 night. The last time we sailed we spent the first full day and last day basically inside, but all of the days in between were enjoyable. You just never know with the weather. We like to sail from Bayonne as it is a short drive for us, and my husband won't fly unless he absolutely has to.

Yes, it was extremely windy and cold the day we left New York.

Debde

Another LIer probably joining you on this cruise.

I figure-rather have one or two chilly days then an entire week. might be a nice way to bring in the new year!!

I don't think I am sugar coating this at all. If you noticed I said they might not have pool weather at all on this cruise and not to waste money on a balcony because of the anticipated weather. Some posters are trying to say that after day 2 it's going to be warm - this is unlikely the case - it was a broad statement that doesn't include you.. no biggie. Even North Florida is chilly this time of year.

A cruise out of NY in January will not be warm for the majority of the trip. We went on a cruise in January that left out of Miami and even while in Miami we were wearing what I would call Fall weather clothes. Jeans, long sleeve, etc. It won't be a warm weather cruise - if this is what the OP is seeking it will be a waste of time and money.

We sailed out on 12 night Explorer in Jan a few years ago. The night we left a big snow storm was coming to the area. We got out ahead of it, but it was very rough sailing. The next day it was about 65 degrees. We wore shorts, but it was too cold to go in the pool. The 2nd sea day was warm and a pool day. On the way back, were were in shorts up until dinner the last night. The last night we also sailed into a snow storm. They locked all the doors that went outside because there were high winds and snow.

The seas were very rough on the sea days and the ship was rocking pretty good. We were on deck 9 and had water spray coming over the balcony and the balcony was crusted in salt until we arrived in the Caribbean when they cleaned the outside of the ship.

The weather in January can be hit or miss in NY/NJ.

jerseygirl3

There is no way I would do a 7 night cruise out of the Northeast in winter.

We just did the Enchantment of the Seas 9 nighter out of Baltimore and even though our cruise was the beginning of April (expected much warmer temps sooner), sailaway was freezing, the second day was only 52 degrees and windy, and the second to last day back was too cold and windy to be outside. Out of the 9 nights, we had 6-7 warm days, but on a 7 day you're only going to get 3-4 at most. That's probably why it's a good price. If it was longer I'd do it, but not for 7 nights.

The best cruises from New York you can book in 2024 and 2025

Kristy Tolley

If you want to cruise from New York, you will find a solid selection of cruise lines, ships and destinations. Opt for a Bermuda or multi-island Caribbean cruise, a fall leaf-peeping sailing down the Hudson River or perhaps a longer sailing across the Atlantic.

The New York City area is home to three major cruise embarkation points at major terminals along Manhattan's west side (the main New York City port), Brooklyn's Red Hook neighborhood and Cape Liberty in Bayonne, New Jersey. Cruises from New York are ideal for travelers interested in a pre- or post-cruise stay in the Big Apple to see a Broadway show, tour fantastic museums and visit amazing restaurants.

For more cruise guides, news and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .

Cruisers will find sailings from New York City for every travel style — big-ship cruise lines for an activity-packed experience, upscale luxury sailings for the ultimate in pampering and even small-ship cruises offering an intimate onboard atmosphere.

Whether you're looking to sail in 2024 or planning a 2025 getaway, here are our top picks for cruises from New York.

Royal Caribbean: Southern Caribbean cruises

cruises from new york reddit

Active cruisers craving a beach getaway should consider Royal Caribbean 's 11-night Southern Caribbean sailings aboard Odyssey of the Seas. Part of the line's Quantum Class of vessels, Odyssey of the Seas is chock-full of every imaginable attraction.

The top deck is home to multiple pool areas, a kids splash zone, a skydiving simulator and a rock-climbing wall. Inside, you'll find a bumper car pavilion and a sports court that can serve as a laser tag arena and a trapeze school.

Given the ship's size and diverse activities, your group can enjoy plenty of together time — bonding during shore trips, dinner each evening or physical challenges like rock climbing. But it's easy to find "just me" time at the vessel's Vitality Spa, too.

Off-ship activities at various ports of call include hiking Mount Concordia or enjoying a relaxing beach day at Orient Beach on St. Maarten, touring St. Lucia's coast by catamaran or hiking the island's iconic twin pitons, snorkeling around shipwrecks in Barbados and relaxing on the honey-hued sands of Nevis.

The 2025 sailing departs Jan. 16 from Cape Liberty in Bayonne, New Jersey. Fares start from $1,430 per person, based on double occupancy, for an inside cabin. Taxes, fees and port expenses start from about $186 per person.

American Cruise Lines: Fall foliage cruises

cruises from new york reddit

Leaf-peeping road trips might be popular, but why not avoid the traffic jams and enjoy a fall foliage cruise instead?

American Cruise Lines , the largest river cruise line in the U.S., operates small-ship sailings exclusively along the nation's rivers and coasts. Among them is the seven-night Hudson River Fall Foliage Cruise that departs from New York City.

The itinerary is available on five of the line's 19 vessels — American Eagle, American Glory, American Independence, American Liberty and American Star. The ships accommodate 90 or 100 passengers.

A vibrant quilt of orange, red and yellow unfolds as you glide down the Hudson River. Port calls along the way include the Catskills, Hyde Park, West Point and Sleepy Hollow. Excursions showcase each region's history and culture and are offered for all activity levels.

In the Catskills, passengers can take a moderate hike for sweeping views of New York's Kaaterskill Falls, one of America's oldest tourist attractions. Spend time exploring Vanderbilt Mansion National Historic Site or sampling local cheeses and apples during a call on Hyde Park. Lean into the spooky season in Sleepy Hollow with a tour of the Gothic Lyndhurst Mansion or Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, the final resting place of Washington Irving, who penned the iconic short story.

Fall 2024 itineraries depart between late September and early November. Similar departure dates are available in 2025. Fares for the round-trip Hudson River Fall Foliage cruises start from $5,760 per person. Fares are all-inclusive and come with all meals, snacks, drinks (alcoholic and nonalcoholic) and gratuities. The cost also covers port charges and fees.

Oceania Cruises: Northern Europe cruises

cruises from new york reddit

If you've amassed a stockpile of vacation days, consider using them on an extended cruise through Northern Europe with Oceania Cruises .

The line offers an 18-night sailing to Reykjavik and a 23-night voyage to Copenhagen, both of which depart from New York City. Both sailings are aboard the 670-passenger Insignia, among Oceania's smaller ships. Insignia provides a relatively uncrowded atmosphere thanks to a higher crew-to-passenger ratio than on Oceania's larger vessels.

Additionally, the ship's smaller size means it can visit ports that larger ships can't access, providing a more intimate and immersive destination experience.

Port call excursions on the New York-to-Reykjavik itinerary include a visit to Halifax, Nova Scotia's Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, home to the world's largest collection of wooden artifacts from the Titanic. In Nuuk, Greenland, passengers can visit a local family and learn about their culture and customs. Stroll through botanical gardens or check out the world's northernmost 18-hole golf course in Akureyri, Iceland.

A Copenhagen sailing also calls at Halifax, Nuuk and Reykjavik. Additional ports include Torshavn, Denmark; Kristiansand, Norway; and Gothenburg, Sweden.

Rates for an 18-night New York-to-Reykjavik sailing that departs Aug. 6, 2025, start from $6,299 per person for an inside cabin. A 2024 itinerary for a 23-night New York-to-Copenhagen itinerary departs July 12, with rates starting from $8,199 per person for an inside cabin.

MSC Cruises: Eastern Caribbean cruises

cruises from new york reddit

MSC Cruises offers 10-night cruises aboard MSC Meraviglia, departing from Brooklyn's Red Hook neighborhood. The 5,655-passenger ship features a top-deck water park and a two-deck indoor promenade area with shops, restaurants and bars. Passengers who've booked a Yacht Club cabin have their own lounge, restaurant and pool area.

The Eastern Caribbean itinerary calls at ports in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic; San Juan, Puerto Rico; St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands; and Philipsburg, St. Maarten.

Port diversions include snorkeling pristine waters or jumping off waterfalls in the Dominican Republic; exploring Puerto Rico's El Yunque, the only tropical rainforest in the U.S. National Forest System; and testing your bravery in St. Maarten on the Flying Dutchman, called the world's steepest zip line.

The 10-night sailing departs April 18, 2024, and Jan. 23, 2025. Cruise-only fares start from $599 per person and exclude taxes, fees and port expenses (which start from about $187 per person).

Celebrity Cruises: Bermuda cruises

cruises from new york reddit

Celebrity Cruises offers two seven-night Bermuda sailings from Cape Liberty in Bayonne, New Jersey, aboard Celebrity Eclipse or Celebrity Silhouette, both in the line's Solstice Class of ships.

Slightly smaller than Edge Class vessels, Solstice Class ships feature chic outdoor pool decks, expansive spas, casinos and a generous selection of onboard dining, including Murano, Celebrity's signature French restaurant.

Both sailings include two overnight stays in Bermuda, giving passengers plenty of time to take in Bermuda's attractions. The ship docks at the historic Royal Naval Dockyard at the island's West End, which is a hub for shops, local craft markets and restaurants. Elsewhere on the island, the 117-foot Gibbs Hill Lighthouse, one of only two cast-iron lighthouses still in existence, provides one of the best views in Bermuda. Of course, the island's pink sand beaches offer an idyllic setting for a relaxing day off the ship.

Several 2024 itineraries are available throughout the summer, beginning with a May 19 departure. For 2025, there are seven sailings beginning with a May 18 itinerary. Fares start from $548 per person for an inside cabin and exclude taxes, fees and port expenses (about $264 per person).

For ultra-luxury afloat, consider one of Silversea Cruises ' 11-night sailings from New York City to Montreal aboard Silver Shadow. Carrying just 382 guests, this intimate all-suite ship is still large enough to offer multiple dining venues. Options include La Dame, with its French-inspired cuisine and exceptional wines, and La Terrazza, the place to go for authentic Italian dishes.

Other onboard diversions include a pool, a full-service spa, a fitness center and a casino. Additionally, all suites feature butlers who can do everything from unpacking your luggage to securing special requests.

A highlight of Silver Shadow's New England and Canada itinerary is an overnight in Quebec City so guests can go ashore for dining and entertainment. This itinerary also includes cruising Quebec's forest-lined Saguenay River and port calls at Newport, Rhode Island; Boston; Halifax, Nova Scotia; Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island; and Montreal, where the voyage ends.

The 2025 New England and Canada sailing departs Sept. 2. All-inclusive fares start from $6,850 per person.

Cunard Line: Transatlantic cruises

cruises from new york reddit

Cunard 's 2,691-passenger Queen Mary 2 regularly plies the Atlantic Ocean between New York City and Southampton, England. This "crossing" voyage is a throwback of sorts to the "Golden Age of Cruising," when movie stars and political leaders traveled via liner across the ocean.

Today, it's a one-of-a-kind experience with modern amenities, elegant dining, ballroom dancing, a planetarium, a full-service spa, wine tasting, enrichment activities and special event cruises.

Opt for a seven-, an eight- or a nine-night eastbound transatlantic crossing, or choose a 14-night round-trip voyage. Savor uninterrupted sea days, enjoy live music, play shuffleboard, learn from guest lecturers or take in a 3D film in the largest planetarium at sea.

For 2024, choose from six itineraries that depart in May, June and October. Three itineraries are currently listed for 2025 in January, March and May. Fares for transatlantic cruises start from $988 per person, excluding taxes, fees and port expenses, which start from $75.45.

Norwegian Cruise Line: Mediterranean cruises

cruises from new york reddit

Want to explore Europe without the intense jet lag? With this Norwegian Cruise Line cruise starting in New York City, you can spend six days making your way slowly across the Atlantic before spending another 10 days exploring destinations in Spain, France and Italy.

The 16-night sailing takes place aboard Norwegian Escape, departing from New York City and ending in Rome.

Norwegian originated the idea of "freestyle cruising" — a cruise vacation void of rigid dining schedules and dress codes — and is popular for those seeking a casual, resort-at-sea experience.

The ship features a wide range of dining venues like O'Sheehan's Bar & Grill for comfort food, Food Republic for Asian-Latin fusion cuisine and Bayamo by Ocean Blue for seafood. Entertainment options include shows like "Deal or No Deal" and "Wheel of Fortune." Plenty of attractions — including the top-deck Aqua Park, a ropes course, a casino, a minigolf course and a spa — provide onboard diversions.

Norwegian does a great job of prioritizing the 10 port calls on this itinerary, many of which average eight hours in length, so you can see as much of the destination as possible. Fill a day at the Balearic island of Ibiza in unspoiled Ses Salines Natural Park or the historic Dalt Vila district. In Cannes, France, tour the old town or peruse the Picasso Museum. Marvel at Michelangelo's David or browse some of Europe's oldest markets in Italy.

An April 8 sailing in 2024 is available. Fares start from $949 per person for an inside cabin. Fares exclude taxes, fees and port expenses (about $395 per person).

Holland America Line: Extended bucket-list cruises

cruises from new york reddit

If a monthlong voyage is on your wish list, Holland America Line offers two such cruises from New York City aboard the 1,400-passenger Volendam.

The 30-night Amazon Explorer departs from Manhattan and weaves its way through the Caribbean isles to Brazil, with port calls along the banks of the Amazon River. The itinerary then continues back through the Caribbean before finishing in Fort Lauderdale.

Cruisers have time to explore the iconic rainforest thanks to an overnight port call in Manaus, Brazil. Other destination highlights include St. Maarten; St. Lucia; Barbados; Devils Island, French Guiana; Santarem, Manaus and Parintins, Brazil; Trinidad and Tobago; Curacao; and Aruba.

Or, go all-out on a trip of a lifetime with the 45-night Ultimate Mediterranean and Atlantic Passage cruise. The round-trip itinerary from New York is one to add to your bucket list. Imagine overnight stays in Rome, Cairo and Istanbul — no air travel needed.

In Ponta Delgada, Portugal, cook your lunch in the natural hot springs of Furnas. Barcelona provides the opportunity to peruse art museums and sample authentic tapas. Additional port calls include Florence and Naples, Italy; Santorini, Greece; Seville, Spain; and Madeira, Portugal.

Volendam's smaller size means fewer onboard amenities, but guests can spend their sea days enjoying abundant and diverse live music options, a top-notch spa and fantastic food developed by culinary heavyweights like Ethan Stowell, Rudi Sodamin and Masaharu Morimoto.

The 30-night Amazon Explorer voyage departs Nov. 21, 2025. Fares start from $5,009 per person. Taxes, fees and port expenses are an additional cost (up to $845). The Mediterranean and Atlantic Passage sailing leaves Oct. 7, 2025. Fares start from $5,749 per person. Taxes, fees and port expenses are an additional cost (up to $795).

Questions for Investigators Trying to Unravel Mystery of Luxury Yacht’s Sinking

The investigators searching for answers about the shipwreck, leaving seven dead, face questions about extreme weather and possible human error or problems with the yacht itself.

Two small boats with outboard motors make their way across the water.

By Alan Yuhas

More than 180 feet long, with a mast towering about 240 feet and a keel that could be lowered for greater stability, the Bayesian luxury yacht did not, in the eyes of its maker, have the vulnerabilities of a ship that would easily sink.

“It drives me insane,” Giovanni Costantino, the chief executive of the Italian Sea Group, which in 2022 bought the company that made the ship, said after its wreck last week. “Following all the proper procedures, that boat is unsinkable.”

But the $40 million sailing yacht sank within minutes and with fatal results: seven dead, including the British technology billionaire Michael Lynch, his teenage daughter, four of Mr. Lynch’s friends and a member of the crew. Fifteen people, including the captain, escaped on a lifeboat.

Mr. Lynch had invited family, friends and part of his legal team on a cruise in the Mediterranean to celebrate his acquittal in June of fraud charges tied to the sale of his company to the tech giant Hewlett-Packard.

The Italian authorities have opened a manslaughter investigation, searching for answers from the survivors, the manufacturer and the wreck itself. They face a range of questions and possible factors.

An ‘earthquake’ in the sky?

When the Bayesian sank around 4 a.m. on Aug. 19, the waters in its area, about half a mile off the Sicilian port of Porticello, were transformed by an extremely sudden and violent storm, according to fishermen, a captain in the area and meteorologists.

But what kind of storm is still a mystery, compounded by the fact that a sailing schooner anchored nearby did not have its own disaster. Also unclear is whether the crew was aware that the Italian authorities had issued general warnings about bad weather the night before.

Karsten Börner, the captain of the nearby passenger ship, said he’d had to steady his ship during “really violent” winds . During the storm, he said, the Bayesian seemed to disappear behind his ship.

Severe lightning and strong gusts were registered by the Italian Air Force’s Center for Aerospace Meteorology and Climatology, according to Attilio Di Diodato, its director. “It was very intense and brief in duration,” he said.

The yacht, he said, had most likely been hit by a fierce downburst — a blast of powerful wind surging down during a thunderstorm. His agency put out rough-sea warnings the previous evening, alerting sailors about possible storms.

Locals have said the winds “felt like an earthquake.” A fisherman in Porticello said that he had seen a flare go off in the early-morning hours. His brother ventured to the site once the weather had calmed about 20 minutes later, he said, finding only floating cushions.

The Italian authorities have so far declined to say whether investigators had seen any structural damage to the hull or other parts of the ship.

Open hatches or doors?

The boat executive, Mr. Costantino, has argued that the Bayesian was an extremely safe vessel that could list even to 75 degrees without capsizing. His company, the Italian Sea Group, in 2022 bought the yacht’s manufacturer, Perini Navi, which launched the ship in 2008.

Mr. Costantino said that if some of the hatches on the side and in the stern, or some of the deck doors, had been open, the boat could have taken on water and sunk. Standard procedure in such storms, he said, would be to switch on the engine, lift the anchor and turn the boat into the wind, lowering the keel for extra stability, closing doors and gathering the guests in the main hall inside the deck.

At a news conference on Saturday, almost a week after the sinking, investigators said the yacht had sunk at an angle , with its stern — where the heavy engine was — having gone down first. The wreck was found lying on its right side at the bottom of a bay, about 165 feet deep.

12 guests occupied the yacht’s six cabins. There were also 10 crew members.

Open hatches, doors and cabin windows could have let in water during a storm, according to the manufacturer.

By Veronica Penney

Water pouring into open hatches or doors could have contributed to the sinking, experts say, but that on its own may not account for the speed at which such a large boat vanished underwater.

Asked about the hatches at the news conference, the authorities declined to comment on whether they had been found open at the wreck.

The authorities have also not specified whether the boat had been anchored, whether it was under power at the time or whether its sails had been unfurled.

A retracted keel?

The Bayesian had a keel — the fin-like structure beneath a boat that can help stabilize it — that could be retracted or extended, according to its manufacturer. On some yachts, keels can be raised to let the large vessel dock in shallower water, and extended downward to help keep a boat level.

But like the hatches, the status of the keel alone may not explain why a large ship sank with such precipitous speed. Investigators have not disclosed what divers may have seen at the wreck, aside from saying divers had faced obstacles like furnishings and electrical wiring in tight quarters. Officials want to raise the wreck to better examine it, a process that may take weeks.

Human error?

Ambrogio Cartosio, the prosecutor in charge of the case, said at the news conference that it was “plausible” crimes had been committed, but that investigators had not zeroed in on any potential suspects.

“There could be responsibilities of the captain only,” he said. “There could be responsibilities of the whole crew. There could be responsibilities of the boat makers. Or there could be responsibilities of those who were in charge of surveilling the boat.”

It remains unclear what kind of emergency training or preparation took place before the disaster, or what kind of coordination there was during it. So far, none of the surviving crew members have made a public statement about what happened the night the ship sank.

Prosecutors said they want to ask more questions of the captain and crew, who have been in a Sicilian hotel with other survivors. They said that neither alcohol nor drug tests had been performed on crew members, and that they have been allowed to leave Italy.

Prosecutors also said they were also investigating why the captain, an experienced sailor, left the sinking boat while some passengers were still on board.

Besides possible manslaughter charges, the authorities are investigating the possibility of a negligently caused shipwreck.

The bodies of five passengers were found in one cabin, on the left side of the yacht, the authorities said. The five were most likely trying to flee to the higher side of the boat and were probably sleeping when the boat started to sink, they said.

When it comes to food, Seven Seas Splendor offers eight eateries ranging from casual to fine dining. Enjoy your breakfast alfresco at La Veranda and grub down for lunch at the Pool Grill buffet. For something more formal, opt for a French-inspired meal at Chartreuse, Pan-Asian dishes at Pacific Rim or Compass Rose, the largest restaurant on the ship.

Seven Seas Splendor visits a variety of European and Mediterranean destinations, as well as ports across Europe, the Caribbean, Africa and South America.

Viking Mars

Viking's newest ship, the Viking Mars accommodates 930 passengers and, since it's a smaller vessel, it can dock in many ports where some of the larger ocean-faring cruise ships can't reach. The all-veranda accommodations on this ship, which debuted in May 2022, range in size from around 270 square feet to 1,448 square feet. In-room amenities include free Wi-Fi access, flat-screen TVs, safes, minibars filled with drinks and snacks, robes, slippers and 24-hour room service.

Visitors will find a relaxing spa, a hair salon, a yoga area and a well-equipped indoor fitness center (plus an outdoor fitness center) aboard the ship. Those looking to unwind with a book in one hand and a cocktail in the other should snag a cozy spot in The Living Room. Like other Viking ships, the Viking Mars offers educational programming, lectures, cooking classes and more on board.

Cruisers can also enjoy amenities like the main pool and hot tub, the infinity pool, the cinema, the theater, a jazz lounge and various bars. Dining options on this ship include Manfredi's Italian Restaurant, Aquavit Terrace, World Café, The Chef's Table and The Kitchen Table.

Viking Mars receives rave reviews from recent cruisers. The variety of excursions, the delectable onboard dining and the comfortable cabins are a few things previous guests highlighted as superb. However, the staff received mixed reviews: Some experienced attentive and friendly employees, while a few noted they were expecting better service across the board for the price point.

Upcoming itineraries on the Viking Mars include cruises with ports of call in Iceland, Norway, Greece, Italy, Spain, the U.S. and Canada.

The 930-passenger Viking Sky – which debuted in February 2017 – receives rave reviews from past cruisers for its port-heavy itineraries (fares include one complimentary excursion per port) and luxurious, comfortable staterooms. Cabins offer between 270 and 1,448 square feet of space and include balconies, complimentary Wi-Fi access, flat-screen TVs and bathrooms with heated floors, among other amenities. Those who opt for an upgraded stateroom or suite are treated to additional perks, like priority reservations at the spa and specialty restaurants.

Viking Sky's activities include classes at the fitness center, treatments at the spa and destination-focused lectures. The ship also offers two pools and two whirlpools, including an infinity pool on the stern of the ship. In the evenings, passengers can enjoy live performances in the theater or watch destination-related movies in one of two cinemas.

Guests also have their choice of cuisine, from alfresco dining on the Aquavit Terrace to Manfredi's Italian Restaurant. With 550 crew members on board, the ship maintains a nearly 2-to-1 guest-to-crew ratio.

Viking Sky sails to the Mediterranean, Europe, Central America and more. The ship also offers world voyages.

Seabourn Quest

Seabourn Quest, which launched in June 2011, is one of the smaller ships in Seabourn's fleet. It fits 458 passengers (at double occupancy) and about one crew member for every cruiser. It is virtually identical to the Seabourn Sojourn .

Seabourn Quest differs from the line's newer ships in terms of accommodations, as it offers some ocean-view suites with porthole windows instead of verandas. However, all cabins still have amenities like flat-screen TVs, designer toiletries, personalized stationery, Egyptian cotton linens and in-suite bars stocked with your preferred refreshments.

Outside your suite, you can enjoy a range of pursuits, such as spa and salon treatments, free fitness classes, a nine-hole putting green and two swimming pools.

Once you've worked up an appetite, sit for a meal at one of the ship's tasty restaurants, including Earth and Ocean, The Restaurant, Solis, and more. For evening entertainment, you'll have access to a variety of bars, plus a casino, a dance club and the Grand Salon, where cabaret performances, comedy shows and more are hosted nightly.

Quest sails to and from destinations around Alaska, Asia, the Caribbean, Australia and New Zealand, Canada and New England, and more.

Seabourn Sojourn

The 458-passenger (double occupancy) Seabourn Sojourn debuted in June 2010 and features all-suite accommodations. About 90% of suites offer verandas, and all accommodations provide 24-hour room service, flat-screen TVs, bathrooms with dual sinks and a separate living area and bedroom. What's more, cruisers are welcomed with complimentary Champagne upon arrival and can enjoy a fruit basket that's refreshed daily. A suite stewardess is assigned to each cabin to assist with requests as well. Sojourn is virtually identical to its sister ship,  Seabourn Quest .

Outside the rooms, travelers can gamble at the casino, work up a sweat in the fitness center or relax at the spa. Those interested in soaking up the sun can snag a spot by one of two swimming pools or enjoy one of five hot tubs. Cruisers can also fuel their competitive juices with a round of shuffleboard or golf on the nine-hole putting green. When anchored, vacationers in select destinations can take advantage of the ship's water sports equipment, such as kayaks and paddleboats.

Dining venues aboard Seabourn Sojourn range from casual eateries to fine dining options. In the evening, cruisers can enjoy cocktails at one of the bars or dance under the stars. The ship's nearly 1-to-1 crew-to-passenger ratio means cruisers should expect exceptional service.

Sojourn sails to destinations in the Caribbean, the Panama Canal, Northern Europe, the Mediterranean, Canada, Africa and more.

Seven Seas Mariner

Similar to its sister ships,  Seven Seas Navigator  and  Seven Seas Voyager , the 700-passenger (double occupancy) Seven Seas Mariner prioritizes service with 459 crew members on board.

Refurbished in 2018 (and debuted in 2001), the Mariner features neutral decor and finishings throughout, a remodeled library in a new location and a revamped pool deck with an open layout and new tile and teak surfaces. The spa received a new design with light wood accents and pebble-stone tiles, while the fitness and aerobics center offers modern equipment. Onboard activities include theatrical productions, casino games and sipping cocktails in one of five lounge areas.

Across the ship, all eateries are stylishly designed, including the Prime 7 steakhouse and the flagship Compass Rose restaurant. Chartreuse, a guest favorite, highlights modern French cuisine. During the day, guests can enjoy the expanded lunch offerings at the outdoor Pool Grill or snack at the informal Coffee Connection. As with all Regent Seven Seas ships, specialty dining and shore excursions are included in the cruise fare.

Best of all, the all-suite accommodations offer beds with plush leather headboards, cozy sitting areas and artwork. All cabins are outfitted with welcome bottles of Champagne, private balconies, walk-in closets and marble bathrooms.

Seven Seas Mariner sails through much of the world, including ports in the Caribbean, Africa, Asia, Australia and more.

Silver Dawn

One of the newest ships within the Silversea Cruises fleet, Silver Dawn debuted in April 2022. Similar in size to its sister ships, Silver Muse and Silver Moon , Silver Dawn can accommodate 596 guests and has the capacity for up to 411 crew members.

Dawn is the first ship within the fleet to offer Otium, a new wellness concept that will eventually be implemented across all of Silversea's ships. The program aims to incorporate luxurious elements of the spa experience throughout the entire voyage, starting with guests' suites. Each cabin features the line's new Otium Soft Touch mattress, a redesigned pillow menu, pillow mists, and special touches like cozy blankets, in-room bath salts or hot chocolate. Suites range in size from 334 square feet to 1,970 square feet and feature ocean views, butler service and full baths with separate showers, among other amenities.

Outside of the accommodations, cruisers will find eight restaurants, including La Terrazza, an Italian eatery, Kaiseki, a Japanese outpost, and S.A.L.T. Kitchen, which features a menu that highlights the local cuisine of the ship's destination. Other onboard facilities include a casino, a pool deck, a boutique, a live entertainment lounge, a fitness center and the S.A.L.T. Lab, where passengers can enjoy workshops, lectures and cooking demonstrations.

Silver Dawn departs from ports like Fort Lauderdale, Florida , and Lisbon, Portugal , to destinations like Barcelona, Spain , and Lima, Peru .

U.S. News Insider Tip : Consider booking a session with Silversea's newest spa concept, Otium, which debuted on Silver Dawn. Beyond the ancient Rome-inspired treatments available in Otium, the experience continues in-suite, with butler-drawn candlelit baths including a glass of Champagne and a house-made macaron waiting on a tub tray. Originally launched as a  Princess  ship, the 648-passenger Sirena was revived in 2016 under the Oceania  name. The ship was most recently revamped in 2019 and features many of the amenities found on its sister ships, including the Aquamar Spa + Vitality Center and duty-free shopping boutiques.

Sirena's dining venues include the Red Ginger Asian restaurant and Tuscan Steak, both of which require reservations and an additional fee. Passengers can also choose from four more casual dining options included in the cruise fare. Recent guests gave the food on the ship mixed reviews. After dinner, evening entertainment includes musicals and theatrical productions, as well as games at the casino.

Passengers can choose from Inside, Ocean View, Veranda and Suite category cabins. While Inside staterooms start at 160 square feet, those who opt for a suite will find more space and added amenities, such as free internet access and butler service. The ship also now offers solo staterooms for those who are traveling alone.

Viking Neptune

Viking Neptune sailed its maiden voyage in December 2022. Those familiar with Viking Cruises may notice this ship is not the first Viking Neptune; an earlier vessel from the early 2000s was the first to bear the name.

The new 930-passenger, 470-crew boat resembles its sister ship Viking Mars with its modern features and contemporary Scandinavian design. Amenities on board include a spa, a fitness center, a jazz lounge and theaters that host destination-focused live entertainment and movies.

The all-veranda ship allows guests to enjoy ocean views from any room. The standard Veranda Stateroom measures 270 square feet and features a king-size bed, 42-inch flat screen TV and free Wi-Fi access. Travelers looking for more spacious accommodations can opt for a Suite room. These rooms can reach up to 1,448 square feet and may include separate living and dining room spaces.

Cruisers have eight restaurants to choose from. The Restaurant – the ship's main dining facility – provides regional cuisine made with locally sourced ingredients, while the World Café serves up international dishes. The ship also has a few specialty restaurants included in the fare, such as Manfredi's Italian Restaurant and Mamsen's, a Norwegian specialty cafe. Just keep in mind, these specialty eateries require guests to make reservations.

Viking Neptune sails to ports throughout Europe , the Mediterranean, Canada and the United States . The ship also offers transatlantic and world cruises.

10 amazing fall foliage cruises you can take up the Hudson River this fall

Including brunch cruises with live music

Shaye Weaver

You don't need a car to see peak fall foliage in New York—you can take a boat! A number of NYC leaf-peeping boat cruises leave right from Manhattan and sail up the Hudson River, delivering your autumn dreams of gorgeous changing leaves.

RECOMMENDED: Where to see fall foliage in NYC

This October, we took the  Circle Line: Bear Mountain Full-Day Cruise , which as the name suggests, took us 50 miles north from Pier 83 to Bear Mountain and gave us three hours to hike trails and visit museums and its animal refuge before setting back down the river. It was a wonderful opportunity to escape the city sans car and train for the day and get some fresh air. Better yet, the cruise celebrates Oktoberfest with bratwurst, pork schnitzel, German potato salad, Prop & Peller Bavarian pretzels, and Sam Adams Oktoberfest beer and Warsteiner lager and a live Oompa band. It was a blast to get in party mode while anticipating our hike, seeing the beauty of the Palisades and Hudson Valley, listening to the captain point out landmarks and then relaxing on the way back home to NYC. The cruise goes on Saturdays and Sundays through October 31 and begins at $69 per person, which is really worth it.

Bear Mountain Cruise Circle Line

Here are some other fall foliage cruises you should consider this autumn:

Seastreak: NYC Fall Foliage Brunch Cruise

Leaving from West 39th Street at 11:30am, this three-and-a-half-hour cruise takes you through Sandy Hook Bay, under the Verrazano Bridge, and along New York Harbor. You'll also see the shores of Hastings-on-the-Hudson, Tarrytown, Ossining, Croton Point, Haverstraw and Stony Point and get as far north as West Point. A buffet brunch is served while on deck with apple salad, tortellini salad, fingerling potato salad with haricot vert, butternut squash bisque, smoked salmon, flank steak, southwestern grilled chicken with mango salsa, and assorted pastries. This cruise is also narrated so you'll learn all about the sites you pass along the way. The cruise is offered Saturdays and Sundays through October 31. Tickets are $119 per person.

Seastreak

Classic Harbor Line's  Fall   Foliage  Cruises & Sails

Don’t have a full day to spend admiring the changing colors? Reserve a seat on the brunch cruise with Classic Harbor Line from Pier 62 for a shorter route, leaving just enough time for you to admire the gold, red and russet-hued leaves of the Palisades. From October 15 to November 14, these two-and-a-half-hour cruises offer the perfect trip up the Hudson:

  • Manhattan II : Grand Palisade Fall Foliage Cruise ($88-$106 per adult and $64 per child 3-14)
  • Full Moon: Fall Foliage Cruise on Full Moon from Chelsea Piers ($88-$106/adult and $64/child 3-14)
  • Kingston : Fall Foliage Cruise aboard Kingston ($88-106/adult and $64/child 3-14)
  • Adirondack : Fall Foliage Schooner Sail (3.5 hours; $88-106/adult, $64/child 5-14)

We suggest heading out on a weekend brunch cruise, which comes with a three-course prix fixe menu (includes New York bakery pastries, salmon and lox, chef’s autumn salad with roasted vegetables, oven-roasted ham and more) inside the glass observatory of the Yacht Manhattan and Manhattan II across two-and-a-half hours. It takes off on Saturdays and Sundays and tickets are $124-142 per adult and $72 per child 3-14.

The top-rated, two-hour Fall Foliage Luncheon Cruise on Fridays and Saturdays has a multi-course menu including homemade soups such as a spice roasted butternut squash soup or a cauliflower soup topped with prosciutto and Manchego cheese. A roasted pumpkin and candied walnut salad with Chef’s maple vinaigrette, and assorted tea sandwiches are also in rotation on the menu. Each booking group is seated at a private table separated by clear partitions, with the option to open sliding glass windows throughout the vessel. Tickets are $96-132 per adult and $72 per child 3-14.

Your ticket to a Classic Harbor Line trip also includes an autumnal spiked hot cocoa, as well as a well-curated selection of beer, wine, champagne, and soft drinks.

Head out from Pier 61 on the   Bateaux New York Fall Foliage Lunch Cruise  on October 20 or on the  New York Fall Foliage Lunch Cruise Saturdays through October (October 16 and 23) for a three-hour cruise up the Hudson River with a freshly prepared buffet (jumbo shrimp cocktail starter, salad, honey sesame chicken, oven-roasted flounder, baked ziti and more), paired with seasonal cocktails, onboard entertainment with a live DJ, interactive games, a rooftop lounge and unlimited coffee and tea. Tickets for the cruise are $78.90 or $103.90 per person for a window table and $99.85 or $129.85 per person for the Bateaux cruise.

Majestic Harbor Cruises Fall Foliage Lunch Cruise

You’ve got to go across the river to Weehawken, New Jersey to board Majestic Harbor Cruises’ three-hour leaf-peeping cruise. But if you’re looking for an Instagram-worthy day party, this is the option for you. A DJ will be spinning live music as you snack on a buffet lunch (featuring salad, penne rigate, baked tilapia, and chicken Francaise) while voyaging north to those picturesque cliffs at the Palisades. Wine and cocktails from the cash bar only make the views sweeter. Tickets start at $59 per adult and $29.50 per child.

Fall Foliage

And if you really want to ball out this fall, you might want to check out even more autumnal fun like a Hudson Valley leaf peeping tour by helicopter or a trip to one of these best fall day trips .

Been there, done that? Think again, my friend.

Entertainment | barron trump hasn’t been seen at college as classes start. maybe he’s busy with trump’s gen-z outreach, last week, donald trump declared that barron was ‘all set’ to start college at a top school in new york, but the 18-year-old hasn’t been seen moving into any freshman dorm like other celebrity kids.

Barron Trump’s father, former president Donald Trump, has said that his son is expected to attend a college in New York, but the conspicuously 6-foot-7-inch teenager has not been seen moving into his freshman dorm, in the same manner as other celebrity kids, notably Suri Cruise at Carnegie Mellon or Violet Affleck at Yale.

There has been no video of Melania Trump helping her 18-year-old son find his way to his new on-campus residence or of an entourage of assistants and Secret Service agents following behind, lugging boxes and suitcases.

Maybe Barron has been busy, helping his father’s 2024 presidential campaign in a behind-the-scenes way.

Earlier this month, some Trumpworld “insiders” told the Daily Mail that Barron and his best friend Bo Loudon, a 17-year-old “conservative influencer,” have become the former president’s “secret weapon” and “de-facto social media outreach team” in his bid to sell Gen Z voters on the righteousness of his MAGA cause. The Daily Mail said that “tech savvy” Barron and Bo were “busily briefing” Barron’s 78-year-old father on the new landscape of streamers and YouTube stars.

And yet, Trump insisted last week that Barron, who graduated from high school in May, was all ready to start college.

The former Manhattan real estate mogul revealed to the New York Post, his former hometown tabloid, that his son was “all set in a certain school that’s very good.” Trump also shared that his son would go to college somewhere in New York, and that the family would make an announcement “soon.”

If Barron had indeed been accepted to “a very good school,” it could be Columbia or Cornell, the Daily Beast reported. They are listed as the top universities in New York, according to U.S. News and World Report’s list of best colleges . Both schools tie for No. 12 nationally.

But Columbia, in New York City, held its “mandatory” new-student orientation this week, with classes starting next Tuesday. Classes at NYU, ranked 35th, also start next Tuesday. Classes at Cornell, in upstate New York, started this week. The Cornell Daily Sun reported last week that Barron “does not appear in the student directories of Cornell, Columbia and New York University. Registered first-year students at Cornell are typically listed.”

The Daily Beast reported that Trump family’s announcement about Barron’s college choice has not been forthcoming. Trump’s campaign spokesman Steven Cheung also declined multiple requests from the Daily Beast to offer details about Barron’s whereabouts.

Back in April, the Daily Beast reported that Barron’s top choice for college was NYU, which makes sense, given that the urban university is kind of down the road — Fifth Avenue — from where Barron spent his early childhood, raised by his mother in his father’s gilded penthouse in Trump Tower.

Last week, Melania Trump also was spotted arriving at Trump Tower, while her presidential candidate husband was holding a campaign rally in North Carolina, Page Six reported.

Melania Trump’s presence at Trump Tower renewed speculation that Barron would be attending a school in New York City. One way that Trump World sources have explained her absence from her husband’s campaign has been by saying that she sees herself as a “hands-on” mother, whose first priority is her son, Page Six reported. Some have taken the “hands-on” mother description to mean that she would reside close to wherever he is attending college.

Melania Trump further fueled speculation amid “Barron’s college mystery” by posting a cryptic message on X Tuesday, the Daily Beast reported . She shared an aerial photo of Manhattan, effusively writing about how she arrived in the Big Apple 28 years ago as an aspiring model from Slovenia.

There was “a lot to unpack” in Melania Trump’s message, the Daily Beast reported. But the message definitely implied that Melania still sees New York as her home, even though she’s spent the past four years raising Barron at her husband’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.

Maybe the message was her declaration that she’s more or less moving back to New York — perhaps because Barron will be going to school there.

The former First Lady already has made it clear that she doesn’t intend to move to Washington, D.C., if her husband is re-elected president. In June, a Trump World insider told Page Six: “Melania has made a deal with her husband that if he wins the presidency she will not have to be on first lady duty 24/7.”

Whether or not Barron ends up going to NYU or some other New York school, the choice marks a departure from Trump family tradition, the Daily Beast noted.

Donald Trump has boasted of his Ivy League education at University of Pennsylvania, which is ranked No. 6 by U.S. News and World Report. His older half-siblings, Don Jr., Ivanka and Tiffany, also graduated from Penn, while Eric Trump graduated from Georgetown University.

As Trump has spoken of his son’s academic future, he has praised him for being very smart and claimed he is very much in demand by the nation’s top institutions of higher learning.

In an interview with “Fox and Friends Weekend” in June , Trump rambled on with his praise: “He’s tall, good-looking guy. He’s a very good student, and he’s applied to colleges and gets into everywhere he goes. He’s very sought-after from the standpoint he’s a very smart guy. He’s a very tall guy and he’s a great kid. He’s cool. He’s pretty cool, I’ll tell you.”

Pod Times Square One mile from the cruise ships, Pod Times Square offers “impossibly affordable to stay at the center of the City That Never Sleeps, all while enjoying unique, urban chic accommodations that value efficiency over fuss.” The hotel’s comparatively lower room rates are based on the fact that they’ve “stripped our hotel rooms down to efficient and affordable spaces with all the essentials.”

In other words, the size of their smaller accommodations may remind you of an inside cabin on a cruise ship, but the trade-off can shave some pre-cruise expenses from your trip.
