10 Must-Try Activities At Danao Adventure Park

By vivomigsgee in Travel November 7, 2017

Bohol is internationally recognized for its pristine white-sand beaches, unique geological formations, and countryside attractions like century-old churches and cute tarsiers. Blessed with fascinating history, rich natural resources and warm people, intrepid travelers are faced with wealth of options, (highlighting for now) off the beaten tracks. Yes, I’m referring to non-mainstream outdoor activities and definitely not for the faint-hearted! If you’re more of a thrill seeker and adventure enthusiast, then let’s take an extra mile, travel off the grid and head to Bohol’s ultimate adventure destination – Danao Adventure Park.

Rightfully so, Danao Adventure Park’s top-notch offerings paid off as it bagged the Best Adventure Tourism Award in the first ever Philippine Tourism Industry Awards held last November 7, 2017. Proudly operating in Magtangtang, Danao, Bohol, it is a LGU-initiated-and-run facility boasting a fusion of ecological, educational and extreme adventure. A multi-activity tour to Danao Adventure Park is definitely a great way to experience different kinds of adventure travel. What better place to feed your adrenaline rush than one that’s both diverse in nature and in action-packed landscape?

Without further ado, here are ten (10) must-try activities at Danao Adventure Park that will surely satiate your craving for a thrill.

1. Glass Cliffwalk

Let me feature an interesting one to start with.

Bohol’s first glass-bottomed suspension cliffwalk is giving daredevils a heart-stopping day out. The retractable platform is perched 10 meters away from the edge of Danao’s rugged cliffs, rewarding every brave soul with jaw dropping sights of Wahig River sprawling out below. Securely equipped with France-imported safety accessories (e.g., Petzl helmet, overhead harness, safety lines, carabiner), you can safely roam around the clear glass walkway with a natural high like floating on cloud nine.

The newest thrill-inducing activity is made of a steel frame with more than 8 glass panels. Each of these panels is 1-inch-thick slab of tempered glass. It measures 72 feet in total length and 4 feet in breadth, and is suspended more or less 220 meters above the ground (or river for that matter).

Sweaty palms, trembling knees and flipped stomach – face your fear of heights and steel yourself a walk to remember!

2. Sky Ride

danao bohol tourist spot

Danao Adventure Park’s version of a cable car is called Sky Ride. It is the perfect way to blend excitement and the opportunity for spectacular views all at once.

Danao, Bohol is lucky to be nestled in the mountainous portion of the province, and the surrounding landscape is arguably the one of the best in the country. What better way to take in the Chocolate hills of Bohol, the towering cliffs and beautiful Wahig River, than by drifting through the skies aboard the sky ride?

3.  Root Climbing & Rappelling

danao bohol tourist spot

So if you’re confronted with an opportunity to hit the slopes, it’d really just be rude to say “NO”.

Time to hit the natural setting of Danao’s geological gem, and get the heart pounding by climbing over the oversized roots of a Balete Tree.  Scale up at your own pace by holding on one root at a time. One cool way to descend is through rappelling using a doubled rope coiled around your body.

4. Suislide

danao bohol tourist spot

If you’ve tried doing zipline overlooking falls, rice terraces, beach, forest – you name it – then chances are, you’ll change the way you look at a zipline at Danao Adventure Park.

Fly warp-speed like Superman back and forth over forest-hedged canyons. Staged more or less 280 meters above the ground, be thrilled as you zoom your way cross mountain and enjoy the breathtaking views of the rugged terrain, gushing river and deep cleft between escarpments.

This is a must do!

While being tied to a safety harness, that nerve-racking feeling will kick in the moment you are released from the air to the ground as you succumb over the vastness for a minute or two. Hold your breath as you jump off 70 meters vertical free fall over the steep rocky gorge at 200 meters swing. The Plunge is sure to get the heart racing!

Moderate caving at Camira Cave or extreme spelunking in Baliho Cave, choose your own adventure.

Prepare to get wet and muddy as you experience one of a thrill-filled caving expedition in Danao Adventure Park. Tight-crawl and enjoy the subterranean journey of one or two caves for roughly 2 to 3 hours inside the underground geological formation. Provided in the caving tour are safety accessories from Petzl, an international brand known for solid caving gears and headlamps.

7. Waterfalls chasing & River trekking

danao bohol tourist spot

If chasing waterfalls is your thing, then consider yourself lucky as three waterfalls are scattered around the area – Laguna Falls, Hangtud Twin Falls and Laman Falls.

Explore the road less-traveled and reward yourself with majestic sights of uniquely-structured flowing cascades and cool off in its respective basins.

8. Kayaking and cliff diving

Start with a kayak over the Wahig River stretching about 1.5 kilometers and opt to do cliff diving somewhere in the rocky portion of the route. While at the top of the cliff, you’ll be lured to jump 20 feet below right into the cool water, making it a must-try activity in your lifetime. Let’s watch the awesome video by Sir Reil Cenabre.

9. Bouldering

danao bohol tourist spot

Danao’s Wahig River system offers a unique scenery and activity where you can get that burst of adrenaline. Adventure seekers can hop from boulder to boulder or couple it with kayaking while braving every gush of the river and giving your journey a thrilling ride.

The river system is riddled with challenging passages, many of which are extraordinary and spectacular. At Danao Adventure Park, you can never go wrong with bouldering.

10. Sea of Clouds

danao bohol tourist spot

And last but definitely not the least, the famed Sea of Clouds of Bohol as viewed in Laguna Hills, Danao. Marvel at the sea of clouds over the vast emptiness, errr, the lush mountainscape of Danao as the sun reminds us that it’s gonna be a great day ahead. Let the natural beauty of this phenomenal, yet elusive, spectacle speak for itself! It’s gonna be worth it!

Up in the mountains of Danao in central Bohol there is a viewpoint aptly known as Bohol Sea of Clouds, or Mt. Puntaas. With a viewing area over rice terraces tumbling down into the clouds and an epic ride along Bohol’s countryside sprawling with nature, viewpoints won’t get better than this!

We were both stoked with the view of rice terraces tumbling into the clouds at the sea of clouds bohol

WHERE IS BOHOL SEA OF CLOUDS (MT.PUNTAAS) AND HOW TO GET THERE

Accommodation.

Before I get started on the logistics of getting to Bohol Sea of Clouds in the Danao region, you should know where most tourists in Bohol spend their nights.

This will give a better perspective of where you will probably stay and an orientation on where you will be heading.

About 90% of tourists in Bohol book their accommodation on Panglao. This isn’t actually an area but rather a separate island. Panglao is an island in South West Bohol and a bridge connects the two islands together.

Most tourists stay on Panglao for various reasons. But mainly it comes down to the broad choice of lodging options, western restaurants and tropical beaches.

Here are some of the best accommodation options on Panglao.

Alona Austria Resort – This property is the best rated option on Bohol. Alona Austria is very clean, centrally located and a budget friendly option.

Bird of Paradise – Having a cool design, Bird of Paradise is a good value for money option with exceptionally clean rooms and a central location.

Check all accommodation options on Bohol here .

After clicking on the link, you can choose to only be shown options located on Panglao by ticking the box under ‘Neighbourhood’ next to Panglao Island.

There is another stay option, that is, to have your accommodation as close to the Sea of Clouds as possible.

Villa Del Carmen Haven Bohol is the closest option we found with a good rating. But still an hour drive away from the Sea of Clouds. Though it is only a 14 minute drive from the Chocolate Hills. This wooden villa is surrounded by lush jungle, has lovely views of Bohol’s countryside and serves deliciously good food on site.

Check price of Villa Del Carmen Haven Bohol here .

Literally there was a sea of clouds!

WHERE IS MT. PUNTAAS

Bohol Sea of Clouds is in the Danao Region in the highlands of central Bohol. It is roughly a 2 hour drive from Panglao island.

It takes 30 minutes to ride from Panglao island over the bridge and through Tagbilaran City. The remaining 1.5 hours drive is a pleasant cruise along Bohol’s countryside. The ride is nothing short of amazing.

As you cruise along Bohol’s highlands, you will be engulfed with raw landscapes, tumbling rice fields and farmland.

The ride itself is probably a good enough reason for many to be enticed.

Once you reach the highest point of the mountain, there is a dirt road on your right. Drive for about 100 metres and park your scooter. You may be asked to pay a small parking fee.

The viewpoint is a further 100 metre easy trek up hill and from there you can wander to other peaks. You will see the trails along the ridges above loads of rice terraces.

HOW TO GET THERE

Bohol Sea of Clouds isn’t included in the popular day tours. This activity is usually done D.I.Y either by scooter or hire car.

We rented a scooter and did the ride before the sun came up. It isn’t a ride for the fainthearted since most of the ride will be along pitch black streets in the middle of nowhere.

However, if you opt to go during the day, it is a straightforward ride. All the way from Panglao to Mt. Puntaas, the streets are paved and in good condition and most of the way you will probably be the only one cruising along deserted streets.

Scooters can be rented when you arrive at Tagbilaran ferry terminal or from Panglao island. In both areas there are loads of rental stores.

Scooters usually cost between 400/500 pesos ($8/$10) for a 24 hour rental. But you will get a discount for longer rentals.

Another option is a car hire with driver. With this hassle free option you make your own itinerary while transport is taken care of by someone else.

Check prices (which are very affordable) for car hire with driver here .

You can choose to hire care with driver for 4 or 8 hours and get either a car or van.

BOHOL SEA OF CLOUDS – MAP

I have included the map below with the exact location of Bohol Sea of Clouds (Mt. Puntaas).

You can click on the map to get live directions from your location, whichever part of Bohol you are at, to Mt. Puntaas.

DAY ITINERARY

It would be a good idea to include other tourist spots that are in some way on the same route to the Bohol Sea of Clouds.

There is a route that passes by Bohol’s Chocolate Hills . Just know that this is a longer alternative and in total it will take 2.5 hours to get to Mt. Puntaas where if you take the shorter route would be 2 hours.

From Panglao to the Chocolate Hills it takes 1.5 hours and a further 1 hour to Mt. Puntaas.

views at the sea of clouds in bohol which look over rice fields carved into a valley beneath

If you get an early start, you could also include Mag-Aso Falls on your way back. Mag-Aso Falls is an off the beaten path waterfall nestled in the middle of the jungle. The trail down to the fall is only 15 minutes so isn’t that challenging.

If you include the Chocolate Hills and Mag-Aso Falls along with Mt. Puntaas, the total travel time will be around 5 hours. But apart from a sore bum, I can guarantee it is worth the challenge. And you will be rewarded with 2 amazing viewpoints, a picturesque waterfall and an epic ride among Bohol’s untouched countryside.

Bohol is a large island offering loads of interesting things to do besides the Chocolate Hills and Tarsiers. You can check our guide for a detailed 3 day or 5 day Bohol itinerary. CLICK HERE FOR A 3 DAY 0R 5 DAY BOHOL ITINERARY.

BOHOL SEA OF CLOUDS IN DANAO

Mt. Puntaas or Bohol Sea of Clouds is in a region about 1 hour drive from The Chocolate Hills which is the nearest tourist attraction. It is a place you have to be going to specifically for the view from Mt. Puntaas and not somehow just be passing by.

We had already been to the Chocolate Hills for sunrise and rode a small part of the ride in the dark. However, we didn’t quite get there in time to see the sun rising over the horizon.

We planned on getting to Mt. Puntaas for sunrise and this time we didn’t take any chances! At 3:30am we cruised along deserted streets on Panglao, through Tagbilaran City and into Bohol’s remote countryside and highlands.

It isn’t a ride for the fainthearted with most of journey through isolated regions and no street lights we were almost in complete darkness.

At some point the day started to brighten up. We were engulfed by the mist of the highlands and on either side there was rice fields and farmland tumbling down.

We reached Mt. Puntaas exactly before the sun came up. There is a parking area at the foot of a short trail up the mountain which leads to the main viewpoints. And there are multiple spots worth wandering off to all around.

The views from Mt. Puntaas are spectacular. We were looking over rice terraces carved out of a valley beneath us surrounded in mountains and peaks poking out of a sky entirely covered in clouds.

I don’t think there is any better way than this to start off the day.

Sea of Clouds: The Newfound Marvel of Danao, Bohol

danao bohol tourist spot

Aside from the reopening of Danao Adventure Park , where one can brave the world’s highest canyon swing, travelers have regained interest in the mountain municipality of Danao, Bohol for a whole new reason. A scenic natural phenomenon occurring in town, located three hours’ drive away from Tagbilaran City, has been popularized by social media and persuaded curious travelers to pay a visit to this off-the-beaten-track destination in the central highlands of the island province. If you want to combine a visit there with the province’s more famous attractions, there’s a travel agency that does just that. Just visit philippinestravelpackage.com !

On our second day, we woke up at 4 am the next morning to take a chilly pre-dawn motorbike ride to a village on the other side of town. Our habal-habal zoomed through winding roads enveloped in thick fog from the adventure park to a hilly lookout in Barangay Concepcion, just outside the poblacion or town centre. The mist began to clear when we drove uphill. From here, it’s only a 10-minute walk to the first of a series of grassy knolls called Laguna Hills. Our guide brought solar-powered lamps that softly illuminated the path. Emerging at the top in no time, we were greeted by a momentous view: the golden sunrise over a sea of clouds concealing the valleys below. I couldn’t believe my eyes; it was a magical sight.

Sea of Clouds of Danao, Bohol

I walked over to the highest of the hills for the best views over the fog-shrouded valley, and was truly captivated by the scenery. The view reminded me of the ocean of clouds I saw from the summit of Mt. Pulag in Benguet, a climb which required us to spend the night on the mountain.  The lookout over the sea of clouds here, on the other hand, was only a short walk from the highway. The billowy blanket stretched westwards to the distant Chocolate Hills, a geological wonder of more than 1,700 grass-covered limestone domes — the iconic landmark of Bohol. Mountains peeked above the ocean of fog, looking like islands, before the cottony layers lifted away and dissipated as the sun reclaimed the sky, revealing glistening streams and rice paddies between coconut groves beneath. The sunrise flooded the landscape in golden light.

This accessible viewpoint overlooking the sea of clouds was discovered by local photographer Reil Cenabre only late last year while searching for an elevated spot to photograph the sunrise over the poblacion or town center. “I was very surprised to discover that such a sight — which can usually only be admired from the summit of very tall mountains — would occur just off the highway in my hometown,” shared the Cebu-based IT professional, who vacations in Danao to capture its beauty through his photography. “Amazingly, I’m told the phenomenon happens throughout the year when the weather conditions are right,” he enthused.

Sea of Clouds of Danao, Bohol

His images and time-lapse videos on Facebook quickly became viral, prompting curious travellers to flock the site and establish a new tourist attraction in town. Since the adventure park opened, Danao has been a popular destination for day-trippers, but an opportunity to witness the sea of clouds gives a compelling reason for visitors to spend the night in this faraway town.

Sea of Clouds of Danao, Bohol

How to Get There

From Tagbilaran City, take a bus or van from Dao Integrated Bus Terminal to Danao town, where you can transfer to Danao Adventure Park by habal-habal (motorbike) or tricycle. Total travel time takes roughly three hours to the nature park, which has its own restaurant and basic accommodation. A visit to the sea of clouds may be arranged in advance through the park staff. For travel packages in Bohol, visit philippinestravelpackage.com .

An entrance fee of PHP 25 per person is collected at Laguna Hills, after registering your names in the logbook. A guide is provided to accompany visitors to the lookout points.

Ready to face your fears? Here’s what you can do in Danao Adventure Park

Danao Adventure Park offers a range of extreme activities for tourists. Photos courtesy of Angela Baltan.

Much has been said about the pristine white-sand beaches and countryside attractions of Bohol. The island province, known for being home to Chocolate Hills, century-old churches, and tarsiers, has constantly attracted local and international tourists alike.

For thrill seekers and adventurers at heart, though, the Danao Adventure Park is proving to be a good reason to visit Bohol.

Located in Barangay Magtangtang, Danao, Bohol and roughly two hours away from Tagbilaran City, the Danao Adventure Park houses several non-mainstream outdoor activities that cater to tourists looking for an action-packed travel vacation.

The adventure park – which just reopened to the public in May – is more than eager to welcome visitors following two hits to their industry: the COVID-19 pandemic and Typhoon Odette. While the pandemic limited the amount of their daily visitors, the typhoon caused them some of their famous attractions, such as the glass cliff-walking.

As of July 2022, only four activities – skyride, suislide, giant swing, and the plunge – are open to the public. Operators assured, though, that all equipment used are not substandard and all available activities are operated by well-trained staff. The site, after all, takes pride in putting great emphasis on safety as proven by their zero accidents recorded since opening in 2008.

Danao Adventure Park’s version of a cable car is called the Sky Ride. Perhaps the least nerve-wracking attraction in the park, Sky Ride is the perfect opportunity to enjoy the beauty of Danao’s landscape.

Situated more or less 280 meters above the ground, the Sky Ride moves at a slow pace – giving visitors ample time to bask in the view of rugged terrain and gushing river surrounding the park.

If you’re looking for something more exciting, Danao Adventure Park also has a zipline called the Suislide where adventurers can either go solo or in pairs.

What makes their zipline different is that it’s connected to two cliffs and adventurers get to try two zipline trips as they’re treated to a wonderful sight of the long and winding river. The first line is 480 meters long, while the second line is a bit shorter at 460 meters. To reach the second line, there’s also a roughly three-minute trek from the arrival point of the first line.

While it might not be the fastest or longest zipline in the country, the suislide of Danao Adventure Park is poised to be one of the highest ziplines in the Philippines, being situated at more or less 280 meters above the ground.

Giant swing

If you find Sky Ride and Suislide to be tame and boring, Danao Adventure Park’s Giant Swing might be the fit for you.

Riders are given the chance to control whether they’ll reach the 100-meter maximum height before they’re swung to the cliffside above the Wahig River. The newest addition to the park gives riders a thrill as they’re slowly being lifted into air, before being dropped and swung repeatedly.

Reportedly one of the highest canyon swings in Southeast Asia, the Plunge is the famed attraction in Danao Adventure Park. The loading  platform  is situated more or less 280 meters above the canyon floor, with a 70-meters vertical free fall and 200-meters swing.

Adventurers are geared up with a safety harness, brought to the launching deck, and will be made to choose how they’d like to be dropped: lying or sitting down. The panel will then be lowered and pulled, with the adventurer being dangled over the cliff for a few seconds, before a cry of “Bombs Away!” get them plunging in freefall.

The 70-meter freefall might just last for roughly five seconds, but this is definitely an activity that requires bravery and determination.

While some activities are definitely not for the fainthearted, the Danao Adventure Park, which promotes E.A.T or Eco, Educational, Extreme Adventure Tour, also offers a range of activities that cater to anyone’s adventure limit.

Other activities include sea of clouds mountain trekking and root climb with rappel, while other features like river kayaking and camera caving are temporarily unavailable. Danao Mayor Jose Cepedoza said that the park is also in the process of opening the hamster wheel and zipbike activities for the next months.

Cepedoza hopes that the park’s reopening and the promise of upcoming new attractions will help ignite local tourism, especially that the 144-hectare property is one of their municipality’s primary sources of funds.

The park, which was designed to be an eco-tourism enterprise, is fully managed by the local government unit and gives importance on having their community involved in its operation.

All staff members of the adventure park are locals of Danao and part of the income of the park is used to offer free tertiary education for the Danaoans. – Rappler.com

The Mountains of Danao, Bohol : Your Easy Ticket to Witness Sea Of Clouds (Where to Camp and Side Trip)

The Mountains of Danao, Bohol : Your Easy Ticket to Witness Sea Of Clouds

Ever since that picturesque Mount Pulag Sea of Clouds sprouted in social media, I have been dreaming to witness that kind of natural spectacular wonder. But Mt. Pulag is far from Cebu and it requires a great deal of strength and stamina in order to reach its summit. Considering myself a weakling and lethargic one, I gave up the idea of climbing Mount Pulag. (But who knows, once my drive of climbing mountains returns and this leg injury of mine will heal maybe, just maybe, I’ll go  to the  summit of Mt. Pulag, hehe!)

danao bohol tourist spot

So what can I do now? Just purely hiking, I guess – chill hiking. HAHA!

Since I started hiking I have wished that I could see Sea of Clouds. In Cebu, the chance to witness this kind of natural phenomenon is very slim. Maybe I was just lucky recently for during our Mt. Naupa sunset hike and camping at Mt. Mago, I had the chance to see this Sea of Clouds.  It wasn’t as splendid as I had expected though.

danao bohol tourist spot

Nevertheless, I enjoyed hiking here in Cebu with its verdant scenery and magnificent geographical landscape making the place a mecca for hikers. The Sea of Clouds was sort of a reward.

danao bohol tourist spot

When photos of Sea of Clouds of Bohol became viral in Facebook, I wanted to see it for myself if it’s really something to be awed and also because I haven’t yet set foot in Bohol.

But first (before we went to Danao Sea of Clouds), we visited this famous beauty spot in Bohol…

danao bohol tourist spot

We arrived in Bohol and let me ask you this. What’s this famous tourist spot in Bohol. the name of which is derived from a sweetened-flavour food? This tourist spot looks almost unnatural, because its features, which look like humps, have almost the same proportions and symmetry. These hump-like features are so plentiful that they could hardly be counted.

CHOCOLATE HILLS.  Yes, you answered  right ? No other than Chocolate Hills. 😀

danao bohol tourist spot

These magnificent hills are now in front of my eyes. I remembered that during my elementary days these were just pictures printed in books but now I’m standing in front of them captivated by their splendour. “The picture on paper is now a piece of memory I’ll cherish for life.”

danao bohol tourist spot

Well, let’s go back to the main topic, the Sea of Clouds. After chocolate hills we rode habal-habal  to Danao, Bohol.

Fireflies and Stars While on the Road

When darkness started to envelope the earth, we were already jaunting on wheels (habal-habal) toward the location of the Sea of Clouds. And, oh my, it was a very long journey! The rough road made the ride uneasy for me. The vicinity was dark, I couldn’t see well the surroundings. It was literally a pain in the ass, and I murmured my complaint, “When will this discomfort stop?”

danao bohol tourist spot

But then, when I looked up, I saw millions of stars showing their dazzling glimmering beauty. I even saw a shade of Milky Way. I was enthralled by the sight. Then, I became unmindful of the discomfort of the habal- habal ride.

danao bohol tourist spot

We passed through ordinary trees that stood along the road. The fireflies flying around them revealed an extraordinary sight. I was enchanted with what I saw. It was magical. I never thought I could still witness those fireflies. They were like thousands of fairies having a get-together party making the tree glow with effulgent beauty.

danao bohol tourist spot

It was the longest habal-habal ride I ever had. It was almost an hour when we reached Danao from Carmen. Despite the uncomfortable ride, I was still amazed by the seemingly ethereal things I saw during the ride.

Camping in Danao

After we ate our dinner, we climbed up to the campsite and would have pitched our tent but some of my friends opted to sleep out. So, we laid our jaded body on the “trapal”. We called it trappeling. Hahaha! They decided to sleep out because the air was humid and hot. But then hours later it was freezingly damn cold (oh-oh, bad decision) but still too lazy and too tired to put up a tent. Haha!

danao bohol tourist spot

But here’s my problem. I had a hard time falling asleep (just like falling in love, charot.) I could not sleep because I was too excited to see the clouds.

danao bohol tourist spot

If only I could video… thin clouds were already forming right beside me I mean at the right part of the mountain.

danao bohol tourist spot

That night I couldn’t keep my eyes shut, couldn’t take myself into slumbering mode. I was wide awake the whole time and restless. How could I sleep when above me were billions of stars stuck on the skies? Some of them started falling like raindrops and vanishing into thin air.

danao bohol tourist spot

If I spend the night sleeping, how could I see the beautiful happening up above the firmaments? How could I afford to miss making a wish after seeing a falling star?  How could I not feel the bliss in seeing these spectacular scenes which I couldn’t see every day in my melancholy life? These were the moments I wanted to live again.

danao bohol tourist spot

At 4:30 am early in the morning, travelers, tourists, and locals, began to flock and climb the mountains trying to find a good spot and position to view the Sea of Clouds. This is where we positioned ourselves in order to view the Sea of Clouds and the sunrise which started to show darling hues.

danao bohol tourist spot

So the scenery we had been waiting for —the scenery of Danao Highlands and landscapes and the white foamy gasses of the Sea of Clouds—gradually revealed through a tinge of light from the rising sun, showing forth blazing hues in the sky and diminishing the sight of millions of stars. The Sea of Clouds has finally become visible.

“Spectacular.”

“Marvelous.”

“Magnificent.”

I uttered. At last I have seen the famous Sea of Clouds in Bohol.

danao bohol tourist spot

Climbing the summit to have a good view of the Sea of Clouds took us 15-20 minutes . It was easy as there was an established trail making people of all ages from youngsters to grannies climb with less effort to witness the Sea of  Clouds. What struck me most was that the locals who guarded the area had a first aid kit ready. See, just how much they cared for the tourists who visited the place. Haha!

danao bohol tourist spot

So before climbing and witnessing Sea of Clouds kindly read the dos and don’ts..

Tips and Tricks for your adventure in Bohol Sea of Clouds

  • As what I have recently known from our guide Kuya Rufino (Penoy) Labrador , camping is not allowed unless supervised  or accompanied by a guide. Just contact Kuya Penoy (0948 – 779 – 9629)  through this number if you plan to camp.
  • Just like the weather, Sea of Clouds is unpredictable . Some days the clouds are thin, thick or nothing at all. Better check the weather first in going there. Sea of Clouds does not appear if there’s a typhoon or if the weather is windy.
  • If you want to avoid sea of crowds, go there on weekdays.
  • Expect that you will climb a mountain so wear proper attire like trekking shoes or sandals and jacket ‘coz the temperature is cold.
  • Our habal-habal driver from Carmen to Danao was Kuya Penoy and friends. We settled for a fare of P200.00. We paid them P150.00 as guide fee.
  • There are stores that sell water and snacks.
  • Go there early in the morning, or at dawn to be able to witness sunrise, too. Viewing the Sea of clouds is in the morning only unless the clouds won’t fade away.

  Side tours

Stop over at “liki na chocolate hill”.

danao bohol tourist spot

Our first hill encounter was this “Liki na Chocolate Hill” located in Sagbayan, Bohol . There were hills which were completely fine in shape at the vicinity but this specific hill was damaged and destroyed  by the  earthquake in October 2013. This hill served as a reminder of how strong and catastrophic the tremor was that  killed a number of lives and damaged millions worth of properties in Bohol.

   No Entrance Fee

Witness the Sunset and Chocolates

danao bohol tourist spot

All I could say was that everything was in order, the universe conspired with us, the weather was perfect. I saw the Chocolate Hills with  beautiful blazing colors of  sunset at the background. All the time I silently uttered the word beautiful wishing  that time would stop  and I would watch this scene endlessly.

Sunsets are beautiful. That’s why wherever I go, I always make sure to watch sunsets. I don’t know why but sunsets give me a satisfying feeling that positivity may come along every venture I take, that every good undertaking will be better and every better will become best.

      Entrance Fee = Php 50.00

Tip :   Just like the Sea of Clouds, sunsets do not showcase the same beauty but exposes different flavours every day. Some other time sunsets don’t show at all if the sky is covered with gloomy clouds. So better check the weather first if you would like to view sunsets in Chocolate Hills, too.

See the Cadapdapan Rice Terraces in Candijay Bohol

danao bohol tourist spot

Not really a fan of rice terraces, I was awed in admiration not because of their beauty but by the industry and the painstaking effort of  the farmers in constructing them. How did they carve and dig up earth to make this kind of landscape? We should really be grateful to the farmers, for without them we would not be here today, we would  have no food to eat, we wouldn’t have existed in this  world.

Anyway Cadapdapan Rice Terraces were not as magnificent as those in Cordilleras, but still their beauty and the exhaustive effort in making them can captivate one’s heart.

Rice terraces are simply a stunning artistic creation of man born out of an existing need.

Tip. Strolling around and picture taking are allowed at the rice terraces  but be sure never ever step on the rice fields and of course never ever  touch the plants. Respect the farmers.

Go to Can-umantad Falls

danao bohol tourist spot

Just below the Cadapdapan Rice Terraces lies another gem that Candijay proudly presents. It took us 428 steps in  going down the falls. It was just easy because of the established trails and cemented stairways. And when we were almost near  our destination we could hear the gushing whispers of nature’s cascading waters from rivers and falls.

And in our final step, standing in front of us was the grandiose Can-umantad Falls which is considered as the tallest waterfalls in Bohol. It was a indeed high, with a mini catch basin where one could take a dip and drenched himself in that mini pool.

What’s interesting about these two? The Falls and Rice Terraces are perfectly matched for each other,  the water from the falls serves as irrigation to the rice fields. Awesome isn’t it.?

Tip.   Always be careful with your steps when going down Can-umantad Falls. Climbing beside the waterfalls is strictly prohibited. Most importantly, relax and enjoy the show.

 Entrance Free =  Php 20.00

Take a Dip at Canawa Spring

danao bohol tourist spot

The name “Canawa” comes from the Bisaya term “kawa” a cooking pan in the kitchen. So basically the shape of Canawa Spring is like a cooking pan.  Our last destination was the Canawa Spring. It is dubbed by the locals as the Enchanted River of Bohol for its blue water is so deep that the spring bed has never been reached.

The spring water is so cold that one could really enjoy dipping in these waters to minimize the scorching heat nowadays.

 Entrance Fee= Php 20.00

Tip. The water in Canawa Spring is too deep for swimming. Use life vest in case you don’t know how to swim. Just be extra careful.

Tip .    From Danao to Candijay, it was about a 4-hour van ride. We rode in two vans, one from Danao to Tagbilaran, the other one from Tagbilaran to Candijay. It was that long. But I wasn’t aware of the long time we spent in the vans because I slept the whole time. Good thing, my weary eyes and body were able to rest and slumber after having no sleep at all in Danao. Haha!

Anyway, after arrival we chartered a motorbike taxi and agreed at the price of Php 250.0 back and forth. (Places covered were Cadapdapan Rice Terraces, Can-umantad Falls and Canawa Spring.

After our tour in Bohol, it was now to time leave.  We opted to go to Ubay Port to go back to Cebu because it was the port near Candijay.

So please watch my VLOG and discover how we managed to take this tour over the weekend. It shows the sequence of our activities. Itinerary and expenses are posted in the video and in my YouTube as well. So if you enjoy watching my videos, don’t forget to like and subscribe.

Chasing Potatoes

Why Chasing Potatoes? I’m Chasing Potatoes. I chase time and opportunities because just like round potatoes they roll and get lost. I chase them to store memories to last a lifetime. I make haste, running after them, fearful that they might be gone. That’s why I go places on land or in water. My story tells about the journey of chasing time and saying yes to wonderful opportunities. View all posts by Chasing Potatoes

Love the name Chocolate Hills! Why are they called that? Your photos look amazing 🙂

The sea of clouds looks really mesmerizing. A scene that is so surreal, as if in a dream. The beauty of the chocolate hills too is really ethereal. Waking up or sleeping under the stars and clouds must indeed have been a great experience.

OMG! This must have been an amazing experience. I would so love to hike this area and seen this amazing area. 🙂

I wish we’d known about these mountains when we were in Bohol. We went to the Chocolate Hills and they were pretty underwhelming! These looks incredible though!

Oh wow, that looks and sounds like an amazing experience. I love the sea of clouds list of dos and don’ts!

You truly had a great time in Bohol together with your traveler friends. I was really planning to see the sea of clouds in Danao just before it was getting viral on the internet, but due to unforeseen circumstances, I wasn’t able to make it. Last week, I visited Bohol again and plan to go there, sadly because of another unforeseen situation, I wasn’t able to make it once more. Anyhow, I truly enjoy reading this post about how you actually dream to reach the summit of Mt. Pulag to your long motorcycle ride going to Danao. I didn’t know that camping at the Sea of Clouds is okay, I’ll certainly be going back to Bohol and experience what you guys have experienced. Your night shots are always awe-inspiring. I’m certain that you guys had so much fun and you’ve flirted with so many places to see and experience. The sea of clouds is really beyond compare. Thank you so much for sharing!

Bohol is undoubtedly one of the best tourist destinations in the Philippines and you’ll be surprised by how many must-visit tourist spots there actually are in the province! Of course, when we talk about Bohol, the first thing that immediately comes to mind is the iconic Chocolate Hills. This breathtaking natural landmark often dubbed as “Eighth Wonder of the World”, has long been the face of not only Bohol but the Philippines’ tourism.

But what many people don’t know is that aside from the famous Chocolate Hills, Bohol is also blessed with countless natural and cultural wonders that are equally stunning! The white-sand beaches, tropical islands, beautiful coral reefs, and world-class diving sites are just some of the finest examples! Some people even say that the pristine turquoise waters that can be found in Bohol are even better than Boracay itself! Well, there’s only one way to find out, right? Let’s go to Bohol!

Bohol is also a well-rounded cultural destination where tourists may enjoy discovering some of the Philippines’ most beautiful collections of arts, literature, folklore, and history. The culinary scene waiting for you in Bohol is also mind-blowing! See, apart from the province’s famous tourist destinations, there are still a lot of fun and exciting things to do when you visit and discover Bohol. So, are you ready? Come and join me as we both explore the 15 Best Tourist Spots in Bohol!

2. Balicasag Island

Balicasag Island absolutely turned the heads of everyone because of its mind-blowing marine biodiversity. You can clearly see the rich and abundant marine life thriving in the colorful reefs right beneath the crystalline waters of the island. The Balicasag Island Dive Resort is the only resort you can find inside the 25-hectare island where you can find premium air-conditioned Nipa Hut cottages, rooms, and other accommodation facilities.

When it was time to go back to the mainland, we kept with us the memories of Balicasag with its nice beach and rich marine life. It was an amazing experience to explore this island for the first time. I sometimes travel with fellow bloggers, but this is my first time to travel with writers from all over the world. A truly enriching experience and I get to view and experience a different perspective in travel, passion and in life.

Obviously, diving and snorkeling are the top things to do on Balicasag Island given that it is considered one of the most beautiful marine sanctuaries in the country. But there are also other things to look forward to on the island such as dolphin watching, swimming, and kayaking! You can also choose to just chill out at the white sand beach and enjoy the turquoise waters slowly rustling down on your feet.

3. Chocolate Hills

When we talk about Bohol, there’s only one thing that immediately goes to our minds as Filipinos, right? The iconic Chocolate Hills. This mind-blowing geological formation in Bohol is easily one of the world’s best examples of nature’s genius creativity. It is said that there are more than 1,260 hills scattered all throughout the area of 20 square miles!

Hey Kid! 🙂 – Chocolate Hills

During the wet season, the vegetation on the hills is very lush and green in color. But during the dry season, all this vegetation dries up and turns brown, hence giving the attraction its famous name, the Chocolate Hills. The magnificent “Eighth Wonder of the World” also looks like a huge formation of giant Hershey’s Chocolate Kisses that’s why it baffles and at the same time intrigues lots of geologists and scientists all over the world.

No matter what they say, the pride and honor that Chocolate Hills brings to our country are truly irreplaceable. That’s why when you have the chance to visit Bohol at any time in the future, make sure to drop by and witness the mind-blowing beauty of one of the most amazing natural wonders ever known.

Legends say that the cave got its name when two farmers accidentally discovered two mysterious holes. Sparked by their curiosity, they tried to drop a stone into the hole and heard a splash. This is when the farmers decided to build a ladder or “hagdan” to discover the cave’s enchanting beauty.

Thanks to the incredible popularity of the Hinagdanan Cave throughout the years, several souvenir shops and restaurants were already placed near the entrance of the cave which essentially became an attraction as well in themselves. So be sure to #SupportLocal and try to buy some of their products, okay?

8. Bamboo Hanging Bridge

You’ve never been to Bohol if you didn’t get to try crossing the famous Bamboo Hanging Bridge! This is what the locals and a lot of tourists who’ve been to Bohol keep on saying. Well, they do have a point! Witnessing the beauty and feeling the adrenaline slowly rushing into you is really something.

This famous attraction in Bohol is situated right on top of the Loboc River and throughout the years it has become a tradition for tourists to cross the bridge. Don’t worry because the natural background is incredibly perfect for an Instagrammable picture, trust me!

9. Danao Adventure Park

If you’re looking for fun adventures and adrenaline-pumping activities during your visit to Bohol, then the perfect destination for you is no other than Danao Adventure Park. This adventure park is the definition of an outdoor experience! With ziplines, rappelling, kayaking, and other caving activities, this popular attraction will surely be the highlight of some tourists’ Bohol trip, especially the daredevils out there!

The adventure park offers incredible day tour packages which include nerve-wracking activities, a packed lunch, and even a chill trek down one of Bohol’s beautiful mountains. Again, if your goal is to become closer than ever to nature, this is your best shot yet and you should definitely not miss it!

10. Man-Made Forest

Ah, yes. Another amazing attraction in Bohol is the so-called Man-Made Forest located on the borders of Loboc and Bilar . The Bohol Mahogany Forest is commonly dubbed a man-made forest because of the incredible uniformity in height and spacing of all the Mahogany trees all throughout a two-kilometer stretch of a highway.

It’s like every single Mahogany tree was artificially placed and arranged along the curvature of the road as well! This awe-inspiring attraction is like a scene cut straight from a horror movie and it is truly amazing. Be sure to take photos because I’m sure it’ll be one hell of an Instagram post!

11. Baclayon Church

Of course, it has already been a tradition for many Filipinos to always drop by a church to offer some prayers and respect whenever they visit a new place. And in this case, visiting Baclayon Church or more popularly known as La Purisima Concepcion de la Virgen Maria Parish Church, the oldest Christian settlement in Bohol, would be a perfect choice. This church was built in 1727 where Spanish priests forced more than 200 laborers to finish the construction.

Then and until now, tourists and even locals always make sure that they visit the church for prayers of good luck and safe travels. So be sure not to miss it, alright?

12. Philippine Tarsier and Wildlife Sanctuary

And there it is! Another iconic attraction in Bohol aside from the famous Chocolate Hills and Panglao Island is the sight of the “World’s Smallest Primate”, the Tarsiers of Bohol. The cute little mammals are actually smaller than an average man’s palm and I’m sure that just watching them will make your hearts melt, especially if you’re an animal lover! The perfect place to watch tarsiers is at the Philippine Tarsier and Wildlife Sanctuary and adding this attraction to your itinerary will undoubtedly bring you closer to nature.

Oh, and remember. The sanctuary serves as a safe haven for the Tarsiers, they are highly sensitive to several environmental factors so make sure that you stay disciplined and responsible during your visit. The Tarsiers are already an endangered species and we all have to contribute to saving them from disappearing.

13. Dimiao Twin Waterfalls

It’s really an incredible fact how Bohol seems to never run out of natural wonders, right? Well, buckle up because here’s another one on the way! The Dimiao Twin Waterfalls or more popularly known as the Pahangog Falls is undoubtedly one of the best waterfalls in Bohol.

Credit: TripAdvisor

Featuring two beautiful cascades and a huge natural pool filled with clean, cold, and Gatorade blue waters, there’s no wonder why taking a swim here is one of the best experiences waiting for you when you visit Bohol! The waterfalls also have stunning rock formations that ultimately make the scenery very captivating as well.

14. The Mirror of the World

Did the name intrigue you, too? Well, you’re not alone because it had the same effect on me the first time I heard about it. The Mirror of the World, located in Sikatuna , is literally an amazing trip that will take you around the world. The landscaped garden became popular for featuring most of the planet’s famous miniature landmarks like the Hollywood Sign, Eiffel Tower, Christ the Redeemer, and many more!

The Mirror of the World

Landscaped with picturesque rolling hills and beautiful pathways, exploring the Mirror of the World is really a wonderful memory-making experience with your family, friends, and loved ones!

15. Blood Compact Shrine

Finally, and probably one of the most important landmarks you should visit in Bohol is the famous Blood Compact Shrine. This particular site was built to honor a very important event in the history of the Philippines. It commemorates the agreement that happened between Rajah Sikatuna of Bohol and Miguel Lopez de Legazpi of Spain that ultimately dictated the flow of our country’s history. This agreement of the Blood Compact or Sandugo symbolizes the first treaty of friendship between the Spaniards and the Filipinos.

Things to Do in Bohol: Danao Adventure Park

What do you usually think of when you think of Bohol? Yes, the Chocolate Hills. Or those cute, wide-eyed tarsiers. Panglao for divers and beach lovers, the Loboc river for the romantically inclined. Baclayon and other churches for those who are interested in history, and the internationally renowned Children’s Choir. All these are the standard things to do when you are in Bohol .

For the adventurers at heart, though, there is another very good reason for going to Bohol: the Danao Adventure Park.

Danao is a small town around two hours from Tagbilaran City. Considered one of the poorest municipalities in the province in the early 2000s, it has now grown to be Bohol’s center for eco-adventure activities. Managed by the local government of Danao in cooperation with a non-government organization, the adventure park is also known as E.A.T. (Eco, Educational, Extreme Adventure Tour) Danao, offering a range of exciting activities that are sure to push anyone’s limit.

View from the zipline, 200m above ground.

“We will finish the 1.5km long zipline before the end of this year,” Danao’s chief of police PO3 Norman Nuez said, in whose house a colleague and I stayed when we went there. “This is in addition to the existing zipline that we have now.”

A zipline is a zipline, right? Wrong! In Danao, the zipline (P350/person) is connected to two cliffs, and one is treated to a wonderful sight of a long and winding river 200 meters below. Line 1 is 460m long; reaching the end of it, you would then need to walk a bit to reach Line 2, which is a bit longer at 480m. At the other end waits a photographer who’s always ready to take a good shot (a printout costs P50/photo).

It was my second time to ride a zipline ( my first was in Corregidor ) and I chose to lie face down, looking at the river and the thick vegetation hundreds of meters below me. I loved the feeling of seemingly flying over everything, and it seemed to end so quickly.

Me on the cable car with my trusty umbrella (well, it was drizzling!).

We also tried the cable car (a.k.a. Sky Ride, P250/person) which was parallel to the zipline. It was nice because unlike the zipline, it went very slowly. However, it lacked the adrenaline-inducing ride of the latter.

For those who are more adventurous, Danao has its version of a bungee jump. Called the Plunge (P700/person), it is a 70m freefall requiring utmost courage and will from every first timer. You would be geared up, brought to the loading platform and be made to choose how you would like to be dropped: lying or sitting down?

A guy being brought up, minutes after he plunged into nothingness!

A panel is then lowered, you would be dangled over the cliff, and with a cry of Bombs Away! the rope is released and you would plunge through space, the sheer terror perhaps of the freefall robbing you of the ability to even cry out. After around 10 seconds or so (probably the longest in your life), the rope would tighten around your body and you would swing gently for a few times over the treetops.

Did I try it? Nope! I didn’t feel ready for such an adrenaline-pumping action. According to PO3 Sarah Dupio who went with us that day, though, it would only be scary the first time around. She did it once, then went back to do it again the second time around, loving the rush when her body plunged through space.

This is the Francisco Dagohoy Marker in honor of the hero who made Danao his headquarters.

We only stayed a very short time in Danao so I wasn’t able to experience more of what it was offering. Next time, however, I will come back to try out the following:

•    Caving (P350)—there are two levels: one for beginners (one hour hike, approximately 400m), and intermediate (3 hours hike with more vigorous activities) •    Rappel 15m with root climbing (P400) •    Rappel 60m (P600) •    Kayaking/River Tubing (P200) •    Bouldering/Rock Climbing (P200)

How to go to Danao, Bohol:

From Tagbilaran : Take a tricycle to the Dau terminal and then take the ordinary bus to Danao (P85). From the Danao terminal, ride a habal-habal (motorcycle) to the Danao Adventure Park for around P30.

From Tubigon : If you’re taking the ferry to Bohol from Cebu, go to Pier 1 and take the Tubigon ride. It’s nearer Danao. From the Tubigon port, take the bus to Danao (P60) and the habal-habal (motorcycle) to the Danao Adventure Park. If there’s no direct trip, go to Sagbayan (bus) for P30, and then another bus to Danao for P30.

Of course, you can rent or bring your own vehicle too. Well, when are you going to Bohol to try these out?

@ Lynne: You’re welcome. Hope your trip there pushed through!

' src=

kudos, you hv a very detailed IT, can you pls adv me on how can we go from Danao to chocolate hills cause we are planning to visit on May this year. thanks and regards

@ Goneagain: Thinking of going back? I haven’t tried caving and kayaking, but that’s what I would like to do next time.

' src=

You went to Danao at a good time. A couple of years ago, they only had the trek, caving and kayaking. And we couldn’t do the last because rains made the river too dangerous.

They also advertised a good meal with organic vegetables for the tour but our meal was hastily prepared and with none of the veggies I was looking forward to. The tour was also rather sloppy.

I have to say the gear (helmets, flotation vests, etc) was good. I hope they’ve been maintained.

@ Bon: I missed eating seafood in Bohol. When we went there, there was a fiesta and the dishes were meat. 🙁

' src=

Feast season in Bohol is April to May. I also love Bohol. I have a great experience in Bohol like catching “kasag” for our dinner along the shoreline with “Sulo”. Tawag nila dun, “Ma-nooo sa gabii”.

@ Ashley: I’ll find out 🙂 @ Tina: You can do it! Tell us later about your experience, okay? 😉

' src=

I will meet Danao very soon, I dunno if I can handle the plunge! But I want to 🙂 Thanks for the info 🙂

' src=

How will we go from Danao to Chocolate Hills? Would you know? 😀

@ Red: The Chocolate Hills are just hills which turn chocolate brown during the summer (the grass die). I’m sure if you want to Plunge/bungee jump, you can do it 😀 @ Peppyvagabond: I’ll try it next time *nginig* haha @ Brenna: Do try the Plunge! At least you have months to get psychologically ready. I didn’t 😀

' src=

ah. this is my dream place! i wonder if kakayanin ko yang plunge nila. dream ko pa naman magbungee jump! will take note of your tips. bound for cebu-bohol ako in august. 🙂 thanks!

' src=

EAT Danao is definitely not for the faint-hearted. You should have tried the plunge! It was an awesome experience for me, parang umangat bituka ko when I was in freefall. haha. and the zipline is definitely breathtaking, with a spectacular view of the gorge. Makes me want to go back.

Zipline? The Plunge?? Ah, I’m too cowardly for those – I think I’ll just stick to the ‘Chocolate Hills’ – not sure what they are, but they’d be less scary, right?!?!

Claire, even SM MOA now has a zipline. Imagine that? haha

' src=

We will never run out of ziplines now in our country, they are sprouting like mushrooms 🙂 But Danao Adventure Park is one good reason for me to go back in Bohol.

WHAT IS THE BEST TIME TO VISIT BOHOL?

The best time to visit, weather-wise, is between April and July when temperatures are hot and there is barely any rainfall.

This is also high season so expect to see many tourists during these months.

I recommend visiting on the shoulder months of the high season between November and March which sees a bit of rainfall but usually only lasts for a couple of hours and the rest of the day is sunny.

Try to avoid the monsoon season which is between August and October.

35 EPIC BOHOL TOURIST SPOTS

I spent one week in Bohol to visit as many Bohol tourist attractions as I could and have put together the ultimate list of the 35 Best Tourist Spots In Bohol 2023 including where to find them and what to expect!

As mentioned earlier, I recommend spending 3 days in Panglao and 3 days in Anda.

I have dissected this guide into two parts, places to visit in Bohol 2023 while staying in Panglao and places to visit in Bohol while staying in Anda.

This will make it much easier for you to craft together your Bohol itinerary.

BOHOL TOURIST SPOTS – FROM PANGLAO

Alona beach.

One of the first things you’re going to want to do when arriving in Bohol is to hit the beach to cool off.

The most famous beach in Panglao is Alona Beach which is arguably one of the best beaches in Bohol.

Alona Beach is located on the southern tip of Panglao, approximately a 45-minute drive from Tagbilaran Port and only 5 minutes drive from Panglao International Airport.

Alona Beach features a long strip of white sandy shores fringed with coconut palms and it’s without a doubt the most happening Bohol tourist spot.

Alona Beach is lined with many seaside restaurants, clubs, and bars that are open 7 days a week till late.

The best spot for swimming at Alona Beach is at the eastern end of the cove away from all the boats and here you can find your own little nook to enjoy a refreshing dip in the ocean.

CHOCOLATE HILLS

Chocolate Hills is a popular Bohol tourist spot that is not to be missed during your stay.

In saying that, the majority of travelers who visit Bohol just come to see the famous Chocolate Hills, so I am sure it’s already on your itinerary!

Chocolate Hills is located in the Carmen region. From Panglao, it’s a 70km drive that takes around 1.5 hours to reach Chocolate Hills, and the entrance fee is 150 pesos.

You can visit Chocolate Hills DIY or alternatively, you can book a Bohol Chocolate Hills Tour which is a full-day tour from Panglao.

This tour includes Chocolate Hills, Bilar Man-Made Forest, Loboc River Cruise, Tarsier Sanctuary, and Baclayon Church.

I visited Chocolate Hills at sunrise and had the entire viewpoint to myself, so if you want to beat the crowds definitely try to get here as early as possible.

At the top of the stairs is a panoramic observation deck boasting extensive views of the 1,268 cone-shaped Chocolate Hills and the surrounding Carmen region. The mysterious landscape is very impressive, to say the least.

The hills are spread over an area of 50 square kilometers and vary in size from 30 meters to 120 meters in height!

These limestone Chocolate Hills are covered with grass and appear to be bright green during the rainy season. However, they turn brown by the end of the dry season, hence their name.

MAN-MADE FOREST BOHOL

The Bilar Man-made Forest is one of the m ost beautiful Bohol tourist attractions and can’t be missed on your list of things to do on the island.

The man-made forest is located between the towns of Bilar and Loboc. From Panglao, it is approximately a 1 hour and 15-minute drive to Bilar Man-made Forest.

MUST READ: BEST TRAVEL ACCESSORIES FOR ANY TRIP

The Bilar man-made forest is composed of mahogany trees that stretch for more than 2 kilometers and w hen you enter this parallel tunnel of trees, you’ll feel like you’ve just entered another realm.

You will also notice the temperature drop drastically as you drive through the man-made forest Bohol because the canopy above almost completely cuts out the sun.

There is a windy road that goes all the way through the man-made forest and it acts as an enchanting pathway that cuts through the natural-arched tunnel of large mahogany trees.

The man-made forest attracts many visitors so be prepared to encounter crowds of people and constant traffic on the road that goes through the forest.

TARSIER CONSERVATION AREA

The Tarsier Conservation Area is a sanctuary where you can observe the Tarsiers in Bohol close-up and learn more about their nature.

The Tarsier Conservation Area can be found in Loboc. From Panglao, it’s a 50km drive that takes around 1 hour to reach the Tarsier Sanctuary and the entrance fee is 120 pesos.

You can visit the Tarsier Sanctuary DIY or alternatively, you can book a Bohol Countryside Tour which is a full-day tour from Panglao.

This tour includes a visit to the Tarsier Sanctuary, Chocolate Hills, Bilar Man-Made Forest, Loboc River Cruise, and Baclayon Church.

The 30-minute walk through the Tarsier Conservation Area will take you on a fun little jungle walk around the sanctuary.

You will find some viewing areas where you can spot the little tarsiers sitting in the trees and it’s easy enough to get some photos.

Tarsiers are a rare and endangered creature, as well as an iconic symbol of Bohol.

They are considered one of the smallest primates in the world and you practically won’t see them anywhere else in the country.

Tarsiers are nocturnal animals, so expect to see them sleeping during the day. However, you might get lucky enough and be able to experience them opening their eyes.

BOHOL ISLAND HOPPING TOUR

An island-hopping tour to Balicasag Island and Virgin Island Bohol is an absolute MUST and I can’t recommend this tour enough!

The island hopping tour includes dolphin watching from the boat, snorkeling with sea turtles on Balicasag Island, and a visit to the unique sand bar on Virgin Island Bohol.

I booked my  Bohol Island Hopping Tour  online in advance and this particular trip was very well organized.

Our trip began in the morning when we met our skipper and guide at the meeting point down on Alona Beach.

Balicasag Island boasts glistening white sands and an abundance of marine life just offshore.

You can rent snorkeling equipment from one of the many shacks dotted along Balicasag Beach when you arrive on the boat. A mask and snorkel set costs 150 pesos.

We spent at least two hours snorkeling around the Balicasag reef and swam with about 15 different turtles and countless species of fish. It was a morning that I will never forget!

Virgin Island Bohol is essentially a sandbar in the middle of the ocean which consists of floating seafood kitchens.

You can go up to the boat that had the most appealing seafood and choose whatever you feel like trying such as lobsters, sea urchins, calamari, and fish which they would boil or grill right in front of you.

Apart from that, there isn’t a whole lot to do on Virgin Island Bohol but it’s a  very unique experience I am sure you will enjoy!

The Loboc River Cruise is one of the top-rated tourist spots in Bohol which includes a hearty lunch and a scenic cruise along the mesmerizing Loboc River.

I recommend booking a Bohol Countryside Tour which includes the Loboc River Cruise as one of the activities.

INGKUMHAN FALLS

Ingkumhan Falls is one of the  best waterfalls in Bohol and a must-see while you are exploring the island.

Cliff jumps and rope swings are just some of the reasons that make this Bohol tourist attraction one of the top locations to visit!

Ingkumhan Waterfall is located in Dimiao. From Panglao, it’s a 65km drive that takes around 1-hour to reach Ingkumhan Falls and the entrance fee is 30 pesos.

The main set of falls features a flow of water that stretches across a limestone rockface around 10 meters wide and approximately 8 meters tall.

The water fills a huge natural pool at the base of the falls that reminded me of blue Gatorade which I was almost tempted to drink.

There is a rope swing that can be used about halfway up the falls, so you will have to climb up the rock face to reach it.

Surprisingly, the surface of the rock isn’t that slippery and the depth of the pool is around 3 to 4 meters deep so you won’t need to worry about hitting the bottom when you swing.

There is also a 5-meter cliff jump that can be found on the left-hand side of the falls which is a lot of fun!

I visited Ingkumhan Falls on a Sunday and it was very busy with locals and other tourists. Try and time your visit for a weekday if you want to enjoy Ingkumhan Falls without the crowds.

DIMIAO TWIN FALLS

Dimiao Twin Falls, also known as Pahangog Falls, is my favorite Bohol tourist spot! Its Gatorade rock pools and jungle surroundings are irresistibly inviting.

Dimiao Twin Falls is located in Dimiao. From Panglao, it is a 60km drive that takes around 1.5 hours to reach Twin Falls and there is no entrance fee.

Once you arrive at the jump-off point, follow the rocky trail which then leads onto a steep set of concrete stairs with handrails to get down to the falls.

It is an easy to moderate hike that takes no more than 10 minutes to reach the bottom.

Dimiao Falls features a twin set of falls that are around 25 meters tall, flowing down a limestone rock face and filling a large catch basin below.

The turquoise natural-made swimming pool is deep enough in some areas to do some rock jumping but be sure to do a depth check first.

One of the best things to do at Dimiao Twin Falls is to grab a rubber ring for 20 pesos and float around the rock pools. You can even swim up underneath the falls for a free head massage.

In between the two sets of falls are a small sandy islet and a cave that you can also explore.

PANGLAO BEACH

The most famous beach on Panglao Island is without a doubt the touristy Alona Beach. However, if you are looking for an uncrowded and untouched beach I highly recommend visiting Panglao Beach.

Panglao Beach is located on the northern coastline of Panglao. From Alona Beach, it’s a short 20-minute drive to reach Panglao Beach.

The 200 meters long Panglao Beach is a small but dreamlike beach. Fringed with coconut palms and turquoise waters, this is hands down one of the best beaches in Bohol.

The only beachfront hotel is the famous and luxurious  Mithi Resort & Spa which also hosts a small island in front of their shores serving as a wedding ceremony spot.

The little island can be reached by strolling in waist-deep water and you’ll be able to enjoy the views of the coastline along Panglao Beach.

The best time to visit Panglao Beach is during high tide and it’s also a great location to watch the sunset in Panglao.

HINAGDANAN CAVE BOHOL

Hinagdanan Cave is a famed Bohol tourist spot 2023 for its unique beauty.

Hinagdanan Cave is located on the northern coastline of Panglao. From Alona Beach, it’s a short 15-minute drive to reach Hinagdanan Cave and the entrance fee is 50 pesos.

Inside the cavern, you’ll find a large freshwater pool that glows a fluorescent turquoise color and large stalagmite pinnacles hang from the ceiling.

The natural pool is around 3 to 4 meters deep and there is plenty of space for swimming and rock jumping.

Around the edges of the natural pool is quite dry and you can set down your belongings here while you go for a dip.

Though do note that the ground gets quite slippery especially if there are wet kids running around, so please watch your step.

WHITE BEACH PANGLAO

White Beach in Panglao is another beautiful secluded beach with sandy shores and well worth a visit when searching for things to do in Bohol.

White Beach Panglao is a short 10-minute drive from Alona Beach and it is far less crowded if you are wanting some peace and quiet away from all the hype in Alona.

Relax under one of the beach umbrellas, snorkel around the nearby reefs, take a dip in the ocean and simply enjoy the peaceful vibe that White Beach Panglao offers.

MOLAVE CLIFF JUMP

Throwing yourself over the edge of the cliffs at Molave Cliff Diving Resort is one of the most adrenaline-pumping spots in Bohol.

Molave Cliff Diving Resort is located on the northern coastline of Panglao. From Alona Beach, it’s a short 15-minute drive and the entrance fee is 300 pesos (this includes swimming with sardines, and we’ll elaborate here below).

The Molave Cliff Diving Resort features a 5-meter high diving board straight into the clear blue ocean below.

If you are not 100% confident, just ask the lifeguard on duty exactly where to land and watch some other keen jumpers go first.

To exit the water, it’s a 20 to 30-meter swim in shallow waters to a staircase that leads back to the cliff top.

It’s possible to walk across the reef to reach the stairs though it’s rugged in some areas and there is the odd sea urchin.

Best to bring a pair of slip-on waterproof shoes to avoid getting cut up feet.

Once you’ve tired yourself out from all the cliff diving, you can rent a mask and snorkel for 150 pesos and check out the underwater world in Molave Cove.

There are said to be large balls of sardines off the edge of the reef so keep a close eye out for them.

NAPALING SARDINE RUN EXPERIENCE

Another one of the best Bohol tourist spots is Molave Cove Resort, and it’s about swimming with sardines.

Imagine getting up close and personal with these tiny fish as they dance through the ocean right next to you.

This activity is not only a great way to witness the marine life that Bohol has to offer, but it’s also the perfect bonding experience for families and friends.

Needless to say, make sure to pack your GoPro when coming, as this is one of the coolest things you’ll do in Bohol!

MOMO BEACH PANGLAO

Momo Beach is one of my favorite beaches in Bohol and it’s still yet to make an appearance on the radar as another tourist spot.

But for now, I highly recommend stopping at Momo beach for a quick swim while it’s still untouched.

Momo Beach is located on the northern shores of Panglao, a short 15-minute drive from Alona Beach.

I stumbled across Momo Beach on my way to Hinagdanan Cave, so keep an eye out for the signpost on the side of the road.

Momo Beach features a strip of white sandy shores lined with coconut palm trees and a few wooden shacks dotted along the beach.

There was not one other tourist in sight when I visited this little slice of paradise and I enjoyed a refreshing dip in the ocean all to myself.

At one end of Momo beach is a dive resort but other than that there is nothing more than a few small fishing boats along the sand and beautiful turquoise waters await.

MAG ASO FALLS

Mag Aso Falls is one of the island’s natural treasures and a relatively new tourist spot in Bohol 2023.

Gatorade pools and epic cliff jumps are just some of the reasons why you should add Mag Aso Falls to your list of must-see Bohol attractions.

Mag Aso Falls is located in the town of Antequera. To reach Mag Aso Falls it’s approximately 30 minutes drive from Tagbilaran City or a 1-hour drive from Panglao.

Mag Aso Falls entrance fee is 20 pesos and an additional 15 pesos for parking.

There are 197 concrete steps with metal handrails leading down to the falls and it is an easy 5 to 10-minute hike to reach the bottom.

At the halfway mark on the way down to Mag Aso Falls, there is a viewpoint that overlooks the waterfall which makes for a great photo opportunity.

Mag Aso Falls is an 8-meter waterfall that is surrounded by a tropical backdrop of tall trees and wild plants.

Carved out under the waterfall is a natural pool that is particularly inviting to go for a swim due to its milky blue-colored water derived from the limestone rocks in the area.

You can swim over to Mag Aso falls from the outer edges and climb up into the natural jacuzzi pool to experience a head massage under the falls.

There is also a small cave that can be found under the waterfall.

CAMUGAO FALLS

Camugao Falls is one of the  best waterfalls in Bohol.  Although it’s not quite as popular as Can-umantad Falls, it is equally as impressive with its sheer size and irresistible rock pools!

Camugao Falls can be found in Balilihan. From Panglao, it is a 42km drive that takes around 1 hour to reach Camugao Falls.

The entrance fee is 50 pesos and an additional 20 pesos  must be paid for parking also.

It’s no more than a 10 to 15-minute hike to reach the bottom of the cliffs and to where the jungle trail emerges at the base of Camugao Falls.

Camugao Falls is surrounded by a  towering curved cliff face that makes you feel as though you’ve just stepped inside an enormous amphitheater.

To add to the ambiance, lush green plants and vines surround the canyon.

A number of huts and rest areas can be found around the edge of the swimming hole beneath the falls where you can perch up and marvel at the beautiful surroundings.

There are no food and drink options at Camugao Falls so best to pack your own snacks and drinking water if you plan to spend some time at this epic Bohol tourist spot.

KAWASAN FALLS BOHOL

Kawasan Falls is still yet to make a name for itself as one of the most beautiful places in Bohol.

Kawasan Falls is located in the town of Antequera in Bohol. It’s approximately 30 minutes drive from Tagbilaran City or a 1-hour drive from Panglao and there is a small entrance fee of 20 pesos.

Kawasan Falls is not an outrageous waterfall with a heavy flow of water but it’s the jungle surroundings and the nearby Abatan River that make this place so tranquil.

You can enjoy a nice walk through the forest along a jungle trail down to the Abatan River where you can find a few sheltered huts on stilts. A perfect spot to have a picnic with your friends!

Once you have checked out the river, continue on the trail for a few minutes to reach Kawasan Falls.

A trickle of water flows down a tall rock face from the rice terraces on top of the hill and into a small lagoon at the base of the falls. The catch basin is quite shallow and a great spot for a swim to cool off.

SEVILLA TWIN HANGING BRIDGE

The Sipatan Twin Hanging Bridges, also known as the Sevilla Twin Hanging Bridges, are a remarkable sight in Bohol, Philippines.

Suspended 25 meters above the Sipatan River, these bridges offer great views that you’ll love taking photos of.

Originally, the bridge was made of woven bamboo slats and ropes, serving as a key crossing point for locals. Over time, it has been renovated with steel cables for added safety and stability, while retaining its traditional bamboo design.

Located about 31 KM from Tagbilaran City, you can quickly stop here on the way to Bilar Man-Made Forest and the Bohol Tarsier Conservation Area .

So, if you’re planning a trip to Bohol, don’t miss out on a walk across the Sevilla Twin Hanging Bridges!

INAMBACAN CAVE & SPRING

Yet another off-the-beaten-path location is the Inambacan Cave and Spring. Although it’s not yet on the radar of most tourists, it’s definitely worth visiting.

Inambacn Cave and Spring is located in Maribojoc in Bohol. From Panglao, it is a 40km drive that takes around 1 hour to reach Inamabacan Cave.

There is a small ticket office at the entrance to Inambacan Cave and Spring Bohol and the entrance fee is 20 pesos.

Inambacan Spring features a large lagoon and swimming area which is fed by a running freshwater stream.

There are many nooks and crannies to take a dip in the springs which are the perfect opportunity to jump on in and cool off.

The Inambacan Cave itself is a natural cave carved out of the hillside and a man-made pool has been built around it.

You can walk through the knee-deep water into the cave where you can find stalagmite pinnacles hanging from the ceiling.

BOHOL TOURIST SPOTS – FROM ANDA

Cadapdapan rice terraces.

If you thought Bohol was just beaches and waterfalls, think again.

The Cadapdapan Rice Terraces are hands down one of the most beautiful places to see in Bohol and an adventure not to be missed.

Cadapdapan Rice Terraces remind me of the rice fields in Bali with their tiered architecture and vivid green hues.

And on the plus side, there were absolutely no other tourists in sight when I visited these rice fields, unlike the herds of tourists that you’ll encounter in Bali.

Cadapdapan Rice Terraces can be found in the Candijay region. From Anda, i t is a 30km drive that takes approximately 50 minutes to reach Cadapdapan Rice Terraces.

The entrance fee at Cadapdapan Rice Terraces is 50 pesos.

I visited Cadapdapan Rice Terraces early one morning to catch the sunrise at 5:30 am and made it just in time to wander out into these gorgeous rice fields and witness a colorful sunrise as it lit up this remarkable vista.

There is a narrow dirt trail leading right out into the center of the Cadapdapan Rice Terraces and I remember it being so silent and peaceful.

I spent some time just standing amongst the tall rice fields enjoying the sunrise and shooting some photos of a cluster of coconut palms out on the terraces.

I continued along the trail to a nearby hill that is almost perfectly round in shape and resembles something similar to the Chocolate Hills.

This incredible viewpoint not only overlooks the Cadapdapan Rice Terraces but it also boasts extensive views down the valley and to the ocean.

CAN UMANTAD FALLS

Can-umantad Falls in Candijay is the biggest and arguably the  best waterfall in Bohol . Located high in the hills away from the main tourist towns, Can-umantad Falls is an adventure not to be missed!

Can-Umantad Falls is located in the Candijay region. From Anda, it takes approximately 50 minutes and the entrance fee  is 20 pesos.

From the jump-off point, it’s a short 5-minute walk along a clearly marked trail to reach Can-umantad Falls.

The way is made up of dirt trails, stone steps, and wooden bridges that cross the running freshwater stream.

There are a number of rockpools leading up to the main set of falls which are very inviting with their milky blue waters.

This is your first opportunity to take a refreshing dip following the long journey to reach this Bohol tourist spot.

The height of Can-umantad Falls is said to be 60ft making it the tallest waterfall in Bohol.

Its water source originates from the blue and cool water from Pundol Spring in Candapdapan, making its way downstream to the 60ft drop at Can Umantad Falls and into a large basin below.

Swimming under the flow of water to receive a natural head and neck massage is an awesome experience to have at Can-umantad Falls Candijay.

The water is quite shallow on the edges of the catch basin but it becomes deeper the closer you get to the falls.

CANAWA COLD SPRING

The Canawa Cold Spring in Candijay, in my opinion, is the  best cold spring on Bohol island.

It’s a popular spot for the Filipino locals to hang out though you won’t see many tourists here.

Canawa Spring is located in the Candijay region in Bohol. I t takes approximately 50 minutes to drive from Anda to Canawa Cold Spring and the entrance fee is 20 pesos.

There are two main springs at Canawa, one is a man-made pool with concrete walls and a somewhat dam-like structure, and the other is a natural pool that is almost completely surrounded by lush trees.

The natural pool at the back is far more beautiful than the man-made pool that you see when you first arrive.

So don’t be deterred by this concrete section of Canawa Cold Spring, just be sure to keep wandering along to discover the enchanting blue pool at the back.

A long rope stretches from one side of the cold spring to the other, so you can use this as an aid if swimming isn’t your strong point.

There is also a high tree branch above this natural pool that can be climbed and used as a jump-off point into the spring.

BINABAJE HILLS HIKE

Binabaje Hills, in my opinion, is the best hike in Bohol that takes around 1 hour to reach the summit, boasting panoramic views of the island and its coastlines.

Binabaje Hills is located in Alicia, a town in the northeastern region of Bohol island. It’s approximately a 45-minute drive from Anda to Alicia and the cost is 300 pesos for the guide and 50 pesos entrance fee.

Organizing a hike to Binabaje Hills was a bit more of a process compared to other hikes that I have been on, so to make it easier for you I have explained everything you need to know in the full blog post – Click Here to view.

The morning began with a 3 am alarm clock to make the 45-minute drive from my accommodation in Anda to reach Alicia in time to meet the guide Raul who then took us to the trailhead of the hike.

The first 15 minutes of the trail is quite mellow to start with, perfect to warm up the legs at 4 in the morning, but it quickly becomes very steep.

We hopped over small creek crossings, took a couple of water breaks in small huts along the way, and then scrambled up the narrow ridge trail to finally reach the summit of Binabaje Hills.

There is a small hut at the top that marks the highest point of the Binabaje Hills hike and I arrived drowning in sweat.

The sun was still yet to rise so I took a 5-minute break here before continuing to explore the mountaintop area.

The top hut doesn’t offer the best view of the region as it is surrounded by trees and shrubs so our guide Raul showed us another spot to watch the sunrise from.

It was a very hazy morning, unfortunately, so the sunrise wasn’t that spectacular, though the extensive views of the coastline and surrounding mountains were spectacular nonetheless.

We spent around 1 hour at the top of Binabaje Hills taking photos and enjoying the view before heading back down to the base of the mountain.

Safe to say the Binabaje Hills Hike is one of the best Bohol tourist spots worth checking out.

KINAHUGAN FALLS

Kinahugan Falls is one of the most  off-the-beaten-path waterfalls in Bohol. A short five-minute hike along a jungle trail to Kinahugan Falls is a worthy adventure.

Kinahugan Falls is located in Jagna. F rom Anda, it’s s a 37km drive that takes approximately 50 minutes and the entrance is 10 pesos per person.

The trek to Kinahugan Falls from the parking lot takes no more than five minutes down a narrow dirt trail that can be quite slippery so take your time through this section.

When you reach the bottom of the trail it opens up to a flat plateau  surrounded by coconut palms  and a river runs down one side of the valley.

We caught our first glimpse of Kinahugan Waterfall from here and we followed the trail up some large tree roots that act as stairs. This lead us to a viewing platform at the top which was covered in vibrant foliage from the canopy above.

There are actually  two sets of falls at Kinahugan Waterfall boasting mass volumes of water gushing down a rock face into the river below.

Kinahugan Falls isn’t the most ideal spot for a swim as there is quite a lot of water moving around and it did look quite dangerous to be fair.

This location is purely for marveling at and enjoying the scenic jungle  that surrounds Kinahugan Falls.

DANAO ADVENTURE PARK

Danao Adventure Park is another incredible Bohol new tourist spot, a haven for thrill-seekers and nature lovers.

Nestled about 1 hour from the Chocolate Hills, the park boasts one of the longest and tallest zip line in the country, named “sui-slide” and is 200-meter deep and 500-meter long.

When coming, you can expect a day filled with adrenaline-pumping activities. From zip-lining to rappelling, it’s going to be an experience for the books!

The entrance fee is only 25 pesos, but you’ll pay extra for each activity you’ll do, such as the following:

  • Plunge – P700 per person
  • Sky Ride – P250 per person
  • River Tubing – P200.00/person
  • Kayaking – P200.00/person
  • River/Mountain Trekking/Hiking – P200.00/person
  • Wall Climbing – P100.00/person
  • Rappel w/ root climbing – P400.00/person
  • Suislide – P350.00/person

There is more, but these are the most common and exciting activities you can do!

Danao Adventure Park is not just a place for adrenaline junkies, but also for those who appreciate natural beauty, and I highly recommend coming.

LONOY COLD SPRING

Lonoy Cold Spring is one of the top Bohol attractions and a great spot to spend an hour or two swimming in the man-made pools which are fed by a nearby freshwater stream.

Lonoy Cold Spring is located in Jagna and can be visited on the same day you visit Kinahugan Falls. F rom Anda, it is a 38km drive which takes around 55 minutes and the entrance fee is 20 pesos.

Lonoy Cold Spring is made up of three separate springs that are fed from the runoff of water from the nearby mountains.

The flow of water cascades down the hillside into each man-made pool and meets the freshwater stream at the bottom.

It’s a popular location for the locals to hang out on weekends and you won’t find too many tourists here.

They are always very friendly and welcoming to foreigners so take the time to get to know them and learn more about the local way of life here in Bohol.

Snacks and drinks are also available for purchase from the little shop next to the springs.

The water inside Lon oy Cold Spring is no more than six feet deep and it’s a great spot to cool off while listening to the sounds of the surrounding forested area.

LAMANOK ISLAND & MANGROVE BOARDWALK

Lamanok Island, also spelled Lamanoc, is said to be one of the most mysterious places to go in Bohol.

Lamanok has a long history of being a sacred place for priests and healers who would make offerings to nature spirits on the island and some people claim to have seen or heard paranormal activity on Lamanoc.

Uncover the island’s rich heritage on the Lamanok Island Mystic Experience Tour which costs around 300 pesos and includes a guide, entrance fees, and a boat trip. You can book a Lamanok Island Tour via your accommodation in Anda.

Apart from the spookiness of Lamanok, you can enjoy a half-day of fun activities such as island hopping, kayaking, hiking, and caving.

The journey also begins with a stroll through the mangrove forest across a boardwalk that is constructed completely out of bamboo.

CABAGNOW CAVE POOL

Mother Nature has carved over twenty major cave pools in Anda and  Cabagnow Cave Pool is arguably the biggest, the best, and the most beautiful out of them all.

I highly recommend adding Cabagnow Cave Pool to your list of must-visit tourist spots in Bohol.

From the main town in Anda, Cabagnow Cave Pool is a 5-minute drive. The entrance fee is 50 pesos and the parking fee is 20 pesos.

Follow the dirt trail from the parking lot to Cabagnow Cave Pool which is clearly marked and it takes no more than 10 minutes to walk.

About 2 minutes in, I came across an intersection and a sign that read  ‘Tibaw Cave Pool’  with an arrow pointing to the left which leads down to another epic cave pool. I decided to check this one out first before heading over to Cabagnow Cave Pool.

This unique cenote / sinkhole / cave pool is surrounded by coral rock and  filled with fresh water  which is fed from the nearby mountains.

To enter the deep blue-colored pool you can either walk across the rocks and slip in on the shallow side or if you’re keen on a jump there is a 2-meter cliff jump on the opposite side of the pool.

The depth of the water is around 3 meters deep so you won’t have to worry about hitting the bottom if you decide to do some cliff jumping.

I continued on to find Cabagnow Cave Pool which is only a 5-minute walk from Tibaw Cave Pool.

The Cabagnow Cave Pool is much larger but unfortunately, it wasn’t possible to enter the pool without the ladder that used to be in place.

It’s a 5-meter drop into the sinkhole so there is no way of getting out once you’re down in the water.

BLUE HEAVEN VIEWPOINT ANDA

The Blue Heaven Viewpoint Anda is the highest peak on the Anda Peninsula which offers panoramic views of Bohol Island and its coastlines.

I visited Blue Heaven Viewpoint Anda one afternoon to watch the sunset and it was one of the highlights of my Bohol trip.

Blue Heaven Viewpoint is approximately a 20-minute drive inland from Anda town center and the entrance is free.

It’s very easy to find this viewpoint with the use of Google maps and when you arrive at the jump-off point on the side of the main road, it’s a short 2-minute walk along a dirt trail to the top of the hill.

There is a small sheltered hut at the summit offering extensive views of the Anda region and its beaches. On a clear day, you can see the neighboring islands of Camiguin and Surigao.

Blue Heaven Viewpoint Anda, in my opinion, is one of the best places to watch the sunset in Bohol.

QUINALE BEACH ANDA

Quinale Beach was one of my favorite beaches to explore while I was in Anda and coincidently, it’s dubbed the best beach in Bohol.

Quinale Beach Anda is most famed for its long stretch of white soft sands, crystal clear waters, palm tree fringed shores, beach bars, and open-style huts that are dotted along the coastline.

Not a bad spot to spend a few hours if you ask me!

The best time to visit Quinale Beach is during high tide to see its true beauty. Visiting at low tide is also okay but there may be a lot of seaweed grass along the shores.

There are many spots to perch up under the shade of a coconut palm or under the sun to work on that summer tan.

Quinale Beach is not to be missed on your list of must-see Bohol tourist spots.

CATERES CAVE POOL

Cateres Cave Pool is one of the many epic cave pools in Anda and a real hidden treasure.

From the town center of Anda, it is approximately a 5-minute drive to reach Cateres Cave Pool.

Follow Dapdap Beach Road right to the end till you come to a closed-off gate and this is the jump-off point.

The trail is narrow and overgrown but I assure you it emerges at the Cateres Cave Pool. It’s a short 2-minute walk from the jump-off point and there is no entrance fee.

When I arrived there was a group of teens hanging out, listening to music, and drinking rum. They were super friendly and I sat down and chatted with them for a while.

The cave pool is tucked away under the cliffs and stalagmite pinnacles hang from the ceiling. I couldn’t resist jumping into the turquoise lagoon to cool off.

Cateres Cave Pool is not as popular as Cabagnow Cave Pool and chances are you won’t see any other tourists here.

CANUBA BEACH

Canuba Beach is one of the most beautiful yet underrated beaches in Bohol.

White sands, beach shacks, and a palm tree-fringed shoreline make this location a must-see Bohol tourist attraction.

Canuba Beach can be found in the Jagna region. From Anda, it is approximately a 50-minute drive to reach Can-uba Beach.

When we visited Canuba Beach we were literally the only two people along the entire coastline. The sun was shining, the sky was blue and I was in complete awe of the sheer beauty of this place.

If you’re looking for an uncrowded beach to spend some time during your Bohol trip, head over to Canuba Beach and you will find exactly that!

WHITE BEACH ANDA

White Beach in Anda is hands down one of the best beaches in Bohol.

I visited White Beach for sunset one afternoon and explored the white sands, swam in the shallow crystalline waters, and hung out underneath the coconut palms.

From the town center in Anda, it is a short 5-minute drive to White Beach. You can ride your scooter all the way down to Anda White Beach Resort and park in the small parking lot.

From the jump-off point, follow the dirt trail on the right-hand side of the resort to get down to the beach.

My favorite part about White Beach Anda is the cluster of palm trees that reside on the soft sands.

I spent some time taking photos here before running into the ocean to cool off after a long day of adventures. The crystal clear waters here are to die for!

Once again there were no other tourists in sight, just a bunch of local kids running around on the beach, kicking sand and having an absolute blast. Ah, the simple things!

COMBENTO CAVE POOL

After Cabagnow Cave Pool, Combento Cave Pool in Anda is my second favorite cave pool in the region and a must-visit while you’re exploring Bohol.

From the town center of Anda, it is approximately a 5-minute drive to reach Combento Cave Pool. You’ll find a small parking lot at the jump-off point and there is an entrance fee of 25 pesos.

A coconut palm tree forest welcomes you as you enter past the ticket office and the Combento Cave is located in the back corner of the property. The locals will be sure to point it out to you.

A set of concrete stairs with bamboo hand railings leads the way through a narrow entrance and opens up into a large dome-like cave with a freshwater lagoon inside.

The crystalline water inside the Combento Cave is incredibly transparent with a hint of blue. It’s waist-deep and a great spot for a refreshing dip.

The cave is quite dark inside and only natural light fills the dome at certain times of the day.

You don’t need much time to check out the Combento Cave but you could quite easily spend a couple of hours swimming in the lagoons and chilling out under the canopy of the coconut palm forest.

ALICIA PANORAMIC PARK

Last but not least in this Bohol tourist spots guide is the Alicia Panoramic Park near Anda.

Alicia Panoramic Park is a hill that you can hike and that’ll get you to some of the best views of Bohol.

The hike lasts between 1 and 2 hours, and the last part is particularly steep, so I do not recommend coming during the rainy season.

Also, getting here is a journey and, despite taking about 1 hour from Poblacion, Anda, you can expect rough roads that aren’t easy to drive on. If you still decide to come, I highly recommend getting travel insurance – safety first!

To hike the Alicia Panoramic Park, you’ll have to get a guide, and you can contact Kuyang Tour Guide on Facebook . You can expect to pay around 300 pesos or 500 if you decide to camp overnight.

All in all, while it’s far from an easy hike, the views are worth it and I suggest you come if you have some time left after visiting other Bohol tourist spots!

ARRIVING IN BOHOL

If you are arriving on the island by ferry, see below for the best ways to get from Tagbilaran Port to Panglao and from Tagbilaran Port to Anda.

Tagbilaran Port to Panglao (45 Minutes)

From Tagbilaran to Panglao, you have the option of taking a shared minivan, private taxi, public bus, or tricycle.

TRICYCLE + BUS:

The cheapest option is to take a short tricycle from Tagbilaran Port to Dao Bus Terminal in Tagbilaran City for 30 Pesos ($1.50).

From there you can take the public bus to Alona Beach in Panglao (the main tourist hub in Panglao) which costs around 50 – 100 Pesos ($2.50 – $5).

SHARED MINIVAN:

A shared minivan transfer from Tagbilaran Port to the doorstep of your hotel in Panglao is another great option for only 300 Pesos ($15).

Tricycle rides from Tagbilaran to Panglao cost around 200 – 300 Pesos ($10 – $15) depending on your bartering skills.

I don’t recommend this option because long rides on a tricycle are very uncomfortable.

PRIVATE TAXI:

A private taxi from Tagbilaran to Panglao costs around 700 Pesos ($35).

Tagbilaran Port to Anda (3 Hours)

From Tagbilaran Port to Anda, you have the option of taking a private taxi, public bus, or shared minivan.

The cheapest option is to take a tricycle from Tagbilaran Port to the Dao Bus terminal in Tagbilaran City for 30 Pesos.

From there you can take the public bus to Anda which costs around 110 Pesos.

Minivans are another cheap option to reach Anda for as little as 120 Pesos though it can get quite claustrophobic as they try to fit as many people in the vans as possible.

A private taxi from Tagbilaran to Anda costs around 3000 Pesos.

Discover the Underrated Attractions of Bohol

Table of Contents

Bohol, Philippines – Are you yearning for an extraordinary adventure in Bohol? Want to see the wonders of the province through the eyes of a local adventurist? Guess what? There’s more to Bohol than its irresistible timeless favorites and classics like the iconic Chocolate Hills and Bilar Mahogany forest. Although I was born and raised in Cebu, I keep returning to Bohol, thanks to its underrated and hidden gems. Here’s a short list of some of the underrated yet breathtaking attractions in Bohol.

Danao Sea of Clouds - Breathtaking Attractions In Bohol

Alicia Panoramic Park

Alicia Panoramic Park

The Alicia Panoramic Park , also called Binabaje Hills, is a destination that should be on your Bohol travel bucket list. Praised for its surreal natural beauty, the park will wow you with its picture-perfect hills and mesmerizing shades of green.

Furthermore, it has lovely sunset and sunrise views, making it a great spot to camp in Bohol. So, for a truly memorable nature escapade, pitch a tent and camp at the Alicia Panoramic Park. As far as I’m concerned, it’s, hands down, the finest and most visually appealing attraction in Bohol.

Can-Umantad Falls

Can-Umantad Falls

After camping and hiking Binabaje Hills, head to Candijay and indulge in a refreshing experience at Can-Umantad Falls. In addition to its cool and rejuvenating water, the cascade is quite a sight to behold.

As the tallest waterfall in Bohol, Can-Umantad dazzles and lures photography junkies with its towering height and rugged charm.

Cadapdapan Rice Terraces

Cadapdapan Rice Terraces in Bohol

From Can-Umantad Falls, climb up to the wondrous and Instagram-worthy Cadapdapan Rice Terraces. It’s not as vast and intricate as the beloved Banaue Rice Terraces. Even so, it’s fairly appealing and will urge you to snap dozens of photographs.

And, with its unique formation and style, it somehow reminds me of the fabulous and eye-catching rice terraces of Sapa, Vietnam.

Danao Sea of Clouds

Danao Sea of Clouds

Want to see something spectacular in Bohol? You don’t have to be a battle-scarred hiker or pro mountaineer to see the majestic sea of clouds in Bohol. In fact, I once saw this stunning natural phenomenon in Bohol with just a pair of slippers.

To experience this awe-inspiring spectacle, you’ll just have to take a short hike to Danao’s lovely rolling hills and peaks. Be sure to be there before sunrise to witness this ethereal, jaw-dropping sight. Alternatively, you may pitch a tent there and stay overnight.

Himontagon Hills

Himontagon Hills

Bohol has no shortage of scenic hilltops. And one of my favorite hilly spots in Bohol is Himontagon. Nicknamed “Morning Hills,” this campsite is beloved for its lush landscapes and dramatic sunrise views.

If you’re looking for a place to camp and chill in Bohol, Himontagon is the place to go. And did I mention that it’s free to visit for everyone?

Sunset in Anda

Do you need a heavy dose of Vitamin Sea or a little salt water therapy? Why not include a stop to Anda in your list of things to do in Bohol? Pristine and laid-back, Anda is a serene haven where you can unwind and have a good frolic on its remarkable turquoise sea and white sandy beaches.

Moreover, Anda is a paradise for aquatic explorers, home to a flourishing coral reef with sea turtles, barracuda, and sharks. To top it all off, the town boasts a fantastic array of cave pools, including Combento Cave Pool and Cabongnaw Cave Pool.

Jardin Necitas – Pilar Glowing Garden

Jardin Necitas

With over 18,000 glowing floral lights, Jardin Necitas is a special nighttime attraction in Bohol. While it is best visited at night, the garden looks appealing in the morning. After all, the garden is surrounded wondrously by Bohol’s green and booming countryside charms. To me, you should visit the garden when the sun sets.

There’s so much more to see and experience in Bohol. With its wealth of natural wonders, a wide-eyed adventure won’t run out of things to do in Bohol.

  • 5:00 pm – End of tour

Here are some brief information about each tourist spot in this Bohol itinerary. This is to give you an idea about the places and major things to expect to help you have a more organized tour.

Day 1 – Countryside Tour

This tour can be done independently but the best way to do this tour is to rent a scooter or book a Bohol Countryside tour package. The package usually includes Bilar Man-made Forest, Tarsier Sanctuary, Chocolate Hills, Loboc River cruise w/ buffet lunch, Blood Compact Site, and Baclayon Church. The tour normally takes up to 7-8 hours so make sure to start early so that you’d still have time for rest and relaxation in the afternoon.

Bilar Man-made Forest

danao bohol tourist spot

Bilar Man-made Forest is a 2-kilometer stretch of mahogany trees planted as part of a reforestation project more than 50 years ago. This dense forest in between the towns of Bilar and Loboc is a favorite stop-over for tourists going to and from the Chocolate Hills. The mahogany trees’ uniformity in height makes this forest so pleasing to the eyes and makes up a perfect background for the ‘gram. This masterpiece will definitely leave tourists in awe and adds life and color to every Bohol itinerary!

Entrance fee:  Free

Philippine Tarsier and Wildlife Sanctuary

danao bohol tourist spot

The best way to witness the world’s smallest primate is to see them in their natural habitat and do our share in saving them. The Philippine Tarsier & Wildlife Sanctuary is a non-profit organization with the primary goal of protecting the Philippine Tarsiers and their habitat from extinction. Visitors are allowed to take photos but with no camera flash and are required to observe silence while in the forest. This tour is one of the highlights that you can experience nowhere else but Bohol so don’t you dare skip it!

Entrance fee: ₱80/person

Chocolate Hills

danao bohol tourist spot

This iconic site needs no introduction at all as this is obviously the image of Bohol. But allow us to express our appreciation for this beauty. What makes these thousands of dome-shaped and conical hills special is that it’s a natural wonder carefully handcrafted by the Creator Himself and He chose Bohol to be its ONLY home!

During rainy season, the grass blanketing the hills appears lush green. While during summer months, the vegetation dries up and turns into a brown hue looking like a bunch of chocolates, hence the name given.

Entrance fee: ₱50/person

Loboc River Cruise

danao bohol tourist spot

This activity is like fulfilling two missions simultaneously. You’d get to have your lunch break while cruising in a jungle river that is one of the cleanest in the country! The Loboc River Cruise with buffet lunch is normally included in any Bohol Countryside Tour itinerary. It’s nearly impossible to miss this one! At the middle of the tour, the cruising vessel will stop over the place where the locals perform traditional dances while playing musical instruments. The cruise usually runs for an hour or so back and forth.

Budget: ₱150 – ₱300 / person

Blood Compact Shrine

danao bohol tourist spot

The Blood Compact Shrine is a monument commemorating the Sandugo between Spanish explorer Miguel López de Legazpi and Datu Sikatuna in the first international treaty of friendship. Sandugo is an ancient ritual in the Philippines intended to seal a friendship or a treaty. Behind the monument is a gorgeous view of the Bohol Sea!

Baclayon Church

danao bohol tourist spot

The second oldest church in Bohol, Baclayon Church was built out of coral stones and about a million egg whites mixed with sand. Formally known as The Church of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, this historic place was built in 1717 during the Spanish occupation. It is located just six kilometers away from Tagbilaran City, making it a convenient side-trip for any Bohol itinerary.

Day 2 – Island Hopping + Dolphin Watching

You can book in advance a whole day island hopping tour with dolphin watching and snorkeling, or just walk by the beach and locals will instantly approach you offering tours. Boat fee should be around 4,000 to 6,000 good for 4-8pax. The tour normally takes about 8 hours max.

Pamilacan Island

danao bohol tourist spot

For this tour, you must start really early in the morning for you to be able to catch sight of the dolphins in the wild. They are usually seen near the Pamilacan Island. Expect to witness pods after pods of dolphins joyfully jumping from one side to another, wild and free! The experience is surreal so don’t miss it!

Balicasag Island

danao bohol tourist spot

A small island surrounded by vibrant blue water, Balicasag Island is a top snorkeling site thanks to its amazing underwater and rich marine life. It is also a great location to spot some enormous sea turtles. A stunning display of marine diversity, snorkeling at Balicasag Island’s clear water is certainly a can’t miss when doing an island hopping tour around Panglao.

Virgin Island Sandbar

danao bohol tourist spot

Just between Balicasag and Panglao Island lies a stunning sandbar commonly known to tourists as the Virgin Island. The shallow water surrounding it is crystal clear and grassy. Uninhabited and with no vegetation, it has nothing but a lengthy sandbar that fades into the sea as the tide gets high. If you are fond of sandbars in the middle of the ocean, this place is perfect for you! Another major spot that needs to be included in your Bohol itinerary.

Dumaluan Beach

danao bohol tourist spot

After the island hopping tour, you can ask your tour guide to drop you off at Dumaluan Beach. It’s a laid-back beach with powdery white sands and shallow water. One of the favorite tropical beach destinations in Bohol, it is less crowded and more charming. There’s also a restaurant offering grilled meats and seafood that’s why the beach experience here feels more authentic.

Day 3 – Panglao Tour

Hinagdanan cave.

danao bohol tourist spot

A wondrous cave with deep lagoon and huge stalactites and stalagmites, Hinagdanan Cave is one of the popular natural attractions in Panglao. Hinagdanan means “laddered” in Cebuano. It is said that a farmer accidentally discovered this when he built a ladder to access the cave, hence the name. It is naturally lighted by sunlight which filters through holes in the ceiling, giving it an otherworldly glow.

Entrance fee: ₱100/person

Mag-aso Falls

danao bohol tourist spot

Mag-aso Falls is a 26-ft jungle waterfall tucked away from other popular Bohol attractions. It has a crystal blue water and it’s also a perfect spot for cliff-jumping for those who seek adventure. Also a great place if you want to have a quiet time enjoying the paradise since it isn’t usually flocked by tourists. It is isolated, yet, completely accessible.

Entrance fee: ₱20/person

Alona Beach

danao bohol tourist spot

This 1-km stretch of powdery white sand beach is definitely the top attraction of Panglao. Alona Beach is a tropical paradise having pristine and safe shoreline with many quality restaurants and beach-front resorts. This is actually where you can find most of the luxurious hotels in Bohol. If you’re someone who consider yourself an avid beach bum, Alona Beach should never flee from your Bohol itinerary!

Entrance fee: ₱25/person

Bohol Bee Farm

danao bohol tourist spot

Feel at-home while savoring your organic meals with an overlooking view of the sea. Bohol Bee Farm offers delicious meals made with organically-grown vegetables sourced from their own farm. They love contributing to the local community and environment by encouraging and inspiring our farmers to practice organic farming. They also offer cozy accommodations in their hotel that you might want to consider staying at!

Budget: ₱200 – ₱500 / person

Day 4 – Danao Adventure Park

Danao adventure park.

danao bohol tourist spot

Danao Adventure park is where you can unleash your inner thrill-seeker. Some of the must-try adrenaline-pumping activities here are Glass Cliffwalk, Sky Ride, Root Climbing, Suislide, and more! It is an eco-tourism site in the middle of green valleys and hills where you can have a fun-filled and action-packed tour! Aside from their exhilarating activities, they also have a perfect location for sightseeing, bird watching, and kayaking.

Chocolate-Hills.-Popular-Tourist-Attractions-in-Bohol-Philippines

Explore the many points of interest in Bohol Tourist Spot that are popular with visitors and residents alike. Discover the best things to do in Bohol and the most popular tourist spots in Bohol , such as the Chocolate Hills, that can be found in this island province.

Bohol is deserving of its status as one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Philippines as well as one of the most popular tourist attractions in the Visayas . It is well-known for being the location of the famous Chocolate Hills as well as sanctuaries that are home to tarsiers. Bohol tourist spot is a wonderful alternative to Boracay since it has some of the top honeymoon resorts and beach resorts in the Philippines. However, Boracay is known for its party atmosphere.

[adToAppearHere]

To mention a few, we are giving tips on how to travel Chocolate Hills, treks to the Tarsier Sanctuary, adventures in the Hinagdanan Cave, and outings to Alona Beach. Read this travel guide if you’re trying to decide what to do in Bohol tourist spot so that you can create an itinerary that includes the best things to see and things to do on the island.

HERE ARE THE LISTS OF BOHOL TOURIST SPOT

1. Chocolate Hills

Tourist Spots in Bohol

The Chocolate Hills are the most well-known attraction on the island of Bohol. The majority of people think of them as Hershey’s Kisses, but there are really more than a thousand symmetrical mounds that are conical and dome-shaped. It is not because the terrain is composed of chocolate that it is referred to as the Chocolate Hills, rather, the name comes from the terrain’s brownish hue.

During the wet season, the hills take on the impression of being cushioned and lush due to the grass that covers them. They acquire their name from the browning of the flora that occurs throughout the summer months, when it dies off and takes on a chocolaty colour.

Chocolate Hills is one of the top Bohol tourist spot since it is so well-known that it is even depicted on the currency.

2. Philippine Tarsier and Wildlife Sanctuary

Philippine Tarsier and Wild Sanctuary. Popular Tourist Attractions in Bohol Philippines

The Philippine Tarsier and Wildlife Sanctuary is also one of the most popular tourist destinations on the island of Bohol. There are tarsiers, a small primate species on the verge of extinction, in this massive forest. Small, nocturnal primates with large, rounded eyes, these animals have been around for 45 million years. They are easily stressed due to their frail nature and high levels of emotional sensitivity. In times of extreme stress, tarsiers have been known to kill themselves by slamming their skulls against tree trunks, thus tourists are asked to keep noise levels down. Photos by guests are welcome, however, flash photography is prohibited. Also, tarsiers are off-limits for human interaction.

3. Bilar Man-Made Forest

Bilar Man-Made Forest. Popular Tourist Attractions in Bohol Philippines

Bohol’s Bilar Man-Made Forest is one of the most magical Bohol tourist spot. It was Governor Conrado Marapao in 1953 that initiated the reforestation program that had been planned since 1947. Deforestation in the Loboc watershed was the reason for this.

The Bilar Man-Made Forest is a popular stop on tours of Bohol, and with good reason. The forest’s well-spaced tree canopies create a natural tunnel, perfect for a leisurely stroll. It’s peaceful, so it’s perfect for a little break before continuing on to the forest to the north, where you may continue your exploration of Bohol.

Built from white and red mahogany trees, it stretches for a total of two kilometers. Tours to the Chocolate Hills and other Bohol attractions are often combined with visits to this site.

This sightseeing trip also includes a Loboc River Cruise, so you can enjoy the sites without having to go far from the dock.

4. Pahangog Falls

Pahangog Twin Falls Dimiao Bohol Philippines – Photos from Adventure Bohol. Popular Tourist Attractions in Bohol Philippines

Located in southern Bohol’s Dimiao Region is the breathtaking Pahangog Falls. It will take around an hour and twenty minutes if you stay in Panglao, which is where most tourists do.

Panglao is where the vast majority of visitors choose to spend their time. Because it is the island’s most popular tourist destination, complete with a wide variety of hotels, resorts, and hostels, as well as both Western and native cuisine.

Pahangog Falls is a stunning waterfall in Bohol, Philippines, and also one of the most popular tourist attractions in Bohol, thanks in part to the striking contrast between the green of the surrounding tropical trees and the blue of the pool below. Considering it’s a twin cascade surrounded by natural beauty, it’s certain to pique anyone’s interest.

5. Loboc River

Loboc, Bohol River Cruise The Floating Restaurant - From LexieAnimeTravel. Popular Tourist Attractions in Bohol Philippines

There is no trip to Bohol without taking the iconic Loboc River Cruise. When visiting the Loboc River, tour operators often stop here for a Filipino lunch buffet before continuing their explorations farther downstream. The ship will make a halt midway through the excursion to see natives perform their customary dances and musical instruments.

The Loboc River is a stunning natural wonder of Bohol and one of the most popular tourist attractions in Bohol. The community and government have worked together to protect this natural beauty, and the river is better for it.

6. Sikatuna Mirror of The World

Tourist Spots in Bohol

Sikatuna’s Mirror of the World and Botanical Garden is now available to the public, making it the most popular tourist spot in Bohol. Visit Bohol and take in the beautiful landscape. Bohol is a great place to see world-famous sites. This destination is rapidly rising in popularity due to its extraordinary appeal.

The Mirror of the World Sikatuna and Botanical Garden in Bohol, Philippines, is about finished with its location at Brgy. Libjo Sikatuna.

7. Pangas Falls

Pangas-Falls-Carmen-Bohol. Popular Tourist Attractions in Bohol Philippines

Some people like to develop a tan by spending time at the beach or in the pool. People may mistake it for a glass of milky tea or a steaming mug of piping hot joe. But for the residents of Carmen, Bohol, a dip in the refreshingly cool waters of Pangas Falls is a relief.

In the province of Bohol, one of the few remaining natural wonders is Pangas Falls. Located in the chill town of Carmen, Bohol, the Guadalupe barangay is a great place to unwind. This area is still relatively undiscovered since it doesn’t have many visitors and hasn’t been highlighted on many websites.

The lush greenery and towering trees at Pangas Falls provide a wonderful backdrop for your vacation photographs and add to the relaxing atmosphere of the region.

Being undeveloped means there are no benches, booths, or entry fees to speak of, just the untamed beauty of nature. Bring ample food and drink if you want to spend time here. And, of course, keep waste in mind. Keep tidy as you go along, as usual.

It provides a pool of clean water in which one may swim while admiring the stalactites and stalagmites that decorate the ceiling of the cavern.

There are actually quite a few rice terraces in the area, such as in the towns of Sierra Bullones, Lila, and Jagna. However, almost everyone would agree that the rice terraces in Candijay are the ones that all visitors should see. The Francisco Dagohoy Cave in Danao, Bohol

The Francisco Dagohoy Cave in Danao was the headquarters of Dagohoy. One of the many crystal-studded passages within Dagohoy's cave has an underwater route leading to dry land, and it is said that every time Spaniards would search the cave, Dagohoy would swim underwater through this passage to hide in the breathing space.

The Francisco Dagohoy Cave in Danao, Bohol

A Boholano Hero – Francisco Dagohoy

Francisco Dagohoy, born Francisco Sendrijas, was a Boholano who holds the distinction of having led the longest revolt in Philippine history, the Dagohoy Rebellion. This rebellion against the Spanish colonial government took place in the island of Bohol from 1744 to 1829, roughly 85 years.

Little is known of Francisco Dagohoy's parentage, or his early life. The only information known is that his real name was Francisco Sendrijas and that he was a native of Inabanga, Bohol. He was also a cabeza de barangay, or one of the barangay captains of the town. The name Dagohoy is a concatenation of the Visayan phrase, Dagon sa huyuhoy or talisman of the breeze in English.

  • Dagohoy is acknowledged in the pages of Philippine history as the leader of the longest insurrection on record. His revolt lasted 85 years (1744–1829).
  • The town of Dagohoy, Bohol is named in his honor. It was the former President Carlos P. Garcia, then the Vice President, a Boholano, who proposed the name "Dagohoy" in his honor.
  • A historical marker on Dagohoy's grave in the mountains of Danao, Bohol has been installed in his honor. The Dagohoy Marker in Magtangtang, Danao, Bohol, 92 km. from the Tagbilaran City was installed by the Philippine Historical Commission to honor the heroic deeds of Dagohoy. Magtangtang was Dagohoy's headquarters or hideout during the revolt. Hundreds of Dagohoy's followers preferred death inside the cave than surrender. Their skeletons still remain in the site.
  • The Dagohoy Memorial National High School in Dagohoy, Bohol is named in his honor.

Getting Around Bohol

Once you arrive in Bohol, there are various ways to get around the island. You can find plenty of tricycles and some taxis waiting to bring you to most locations within Tagbilaran and neighboring towns. If you need to go to one of the other towns on the island, you have a choice of jeepneys, busses, V-hires, or even habal-habal. Bilar town where Rajah Sikatuna National Park (RSNP) located, is an interior town located 41 kilometers Northeast of Tagbilaran City.

Planning a Trip to Bohol

By Air: The main entry point to Bohol is Tagbilaran City (Tagbilaran City Airport) which is only a one-hour-and-15-minute flight from Manila and 20 minutes from Cebu.

By Sea: The most convenient way to get to Bohol from the neighboring islands is by fast ferry. Fast ferries offer a high speed passenger service. These have a cruising speed of about 50 kilometers per hour.
