Journey PS4 Review: A Classic Reborn

Neil Bolt / April 15, 2020

Journey PS4

Journey on PS4 is divisive. Journey is overly artsy. Journey is an emotionally-charged masterpiece. Simply put, Journey is many things to many people. To me, Journey told a wonderful tale back in 2012. In the brief, yet perfectly paced, two hour playthrough it encapsulated its name perfectly, and despite having to go up against megahits like The Walking Dead and Borderlands 2 that year, it held its own as a truly outstanding member of the PlayStation family; to this day remains among my favourite games of the PS3 era and now we finally have Journey on PlayStation 4.

Journey PS4 Review

Now, in the hazy heat of midsummer’s gaming limbo, thatgamecompany’s magnum opus joins the PlayStation 4 ranks to try and captivate a new audience who were not fortunate enough to partake in it last generation. But what about those who have already experienced it? Granted, it is free to anyone who bought it on PS3, but can the game still have an impact after the initial glorious hit?

Journey PS4 Review 1

At the start of the game, where you traverse down the sand dune to begin your quest to reach the light-emitting mountain seen in the distance still holds the same magic, as Austin Wintory’s haunting theme plays out. It’s worth pointing out early on that the soundtrack is a huge player in conveying the emotional peaks and troughs of the otherwise near-silent narrative. It says things more eloquently than mere words could convey. Respect has to be paid to a game that can tell a captivating story without anybody uttering a single syllable.

Your adventure consists of the previously mentioned “journey” to the mountain, and the path there is filled with the task of your mysterious robed figure completing small, simple puzzles along the way. There is no combat, but there are dangers to contend with at certain points. All of which are there to seemingly prevent you from making that ascent.

The overarching theme of Journey is how you keep going in the face of adversity, pushing ever-onwards to that goal in a determined, single-minded fashion. It isn’t until you reach the game’s closing moments that you truly understand why this is. The short, non-spoilery version is to describe it as a pilgrimage, one that the game expects you to be joining in on beyond just pushing buttons on a controller. It’s hard to describe exactly why Journey’s narrative can be effective — even if you explain the themes in greater detail it remains something to be experienced hands on, not viewed from afar.

Journey PS4 Review 2

An aspect of it that can and should be discussed is Journey’s multiplayer. Another player can join your quest, and they simply appear without any notice being given during your playthrough (if you’re online of course). There is no matchmaking, no aggressiveness, no natural co-op structure and you only communicate through simple noises.

You won’t even know who you played with until you finish the game. It can often turn out the person you thought was your sole companion was in fact six or seven different people; as players fall behind or press on ahead they are subtly replaced. There are some genuine moments of bonding to be had, even with so little in the way of interaction. It’s a refreshingly different take on online multiplayer, one that fits Journey perfectly.

Even three years on, and on a more powerful console, Journey remains a technical treat. The simple yet elegant graphical style is timeless, looking as beautiful as it did in 2012. Towering, glowing structures and billowing fabric-like movement are constants in this world, being used in interesting ways throughout, while the way the sand shifts beneath your feet and the swirling winds above your head flapping your ever-growing scarf around are wonderfully crafted details.

Journey PS4 Review 3

The visuals are even more striking with the touch ups the PS4 provides. It’s like a series of paintings come to life, and any number of scenes would be fit to capture and stick on your wall. Journey also runs more smoothly now. It was fine before, but the difference in quality is a noticeable enough upgrade when compared to the original version.

Otherwise, there’s nothing new added to the PS4 edition of Journey, not that there would be much worth adding that could actually improve the game and, as I mentioned earlier, you aren’t paying any extra if you’ve already purchased it before. So while those like myself can treat this remaster as an excuse to revisit what made the game so memorable -and for many, a chance to join in at the start when there are plenty of other players active- this is still mainly for those that missed out entirely last time round. Journey will no doubt cause fresh debate and split opinions with those people, which is just fine, because it’s a magical game that still deserves to be discussed.

Journey is out now on PS4 and PS3.

Journey - Review

There and back again.

Journey PS4 Review

When IGN first reviewed Journey on PlayStation 3 back in 2012 , we gave it score of 9.0, for “Amazing.” Here’s what we said then :

“Journey celebrates the poignancy of nature, it startles you with the unexpected, and empowers you in an exhilarating, unforgettable conclusion. The hours spent completing Journey will create memories that last for years.”

Over three years after its original release, Journey on PlayStation 4 proves to be every bit as remarkable as it was when IGN awarded it Game of the Year for 2012. While the increase to 1080p and 60fps is definitely appreciated, what really shines here is the same concise, emotional, and gorgeous adventure that originally wowed us.

Developer Thatgamecompany took the beauty of Flow and the meditative gameplay of Flower, and added an immense sense of scale in its third and most impressive game. In the length of a standard movie, Journey is able to consistently make me feel emotion in a way that few games ever have.

At just over two hours long, Journey delivers an adventure that runs the gamut of human emotions. The awe that comes from cresting your first hill and spotting the mountain on the horizon is paired expertly with the fear that stems from exploring the ancient caverns beneath your destination. The playful curiosity of stumbling across a fellow traveler – another player having their own experience – and wordlessly cooperating with them to explore this world is only strengthened by the isolation and desperation that awaits near the mountain's frozen summit.

Without spoiling the ending, the visual and emotional catharsis that exists at the top of that mountain makes playing Journey a powerful circle that I want to constantly revisit.

  • Moving story
  • Gorgeous world
  • Incredible score
  • Unique mulitplayer
  • Powerful ending

The Verdict

Whether you’re playing it for the first time, or revisiting it after three years, Journey remains one of the most powerful games in recent memory. With strong environmental storytelling, powerful music, and an emotional ending, it is absolutely a classic of the modern adventure genre. If you missed it on PS3, do yourself a favor and experience it on PS4. If you did play on PS3, you now own it on PS4, so this minimal graphical update is an excellent excuse to revisit it.

10 years later, there’s still nothing like Journey’s multiplayer

Journey turns 10 today.

The game’s multiplayer still has an effect on me.

I’ll never forget the first time I played Journey .

Throughout the game, real-life players can join you on your quest toward a mountain on the horizon. Players can fade in and out of your adventure — maybe they want to go faster than you, maybe they just quit — but in the latter half of my game, I had found somebody who stuck with me. Journey has no voice or text chat and no names identifying other players you meet. The only way we could communicate was through our movements, sticking close together to refill each other’s energy, and singsong chirps. Despite those limitations, we built a rapport.

Near the end of Journey , you have to scale the mountain, and as you approach the peak, you get caught in a storm. Much of the game is filled with sunlight, flight, and joyful music, but the mountain is gray, winds buffet your character, and the music is, at times, uncomfortable. Even though the level was draining, I was happy that I had my companion, and we huddled together as we marched toward the peak.

Eventually, the music fades out, and you can only hear your footsteps trudging ever more slowly through the elements. Then, as the game grew silent, my friend collapsed into the snow. I actually cried out in dismay. Then my character fell over, too, and the screen faded to white.

In many video games, you die a lot. That was the only time a virtual death has made me feel like I had actually lost a friend.

Fortunately, that’s not actually the end. In a cutscene, I was revived soon after I fell, and then, in an exuberant celebration of color and music that’s perhaps my favorite video game “level” of all time, soared toward the top of the mountain — with my once-fallen friend flying alongside me.

Journey turns 10 years old today, March 13th, and I still haven’t experienced anything like that moment. To mark the anniversary and learn more about the game’s bond-forging multiplayer, I spoke with Jenova Chen, president and creative director of Journey developer thatgamecompany. While it may feel like the game is effortlessly pairing you with companions as you go along, based on what he told me, it wasn’t quite that simple.

The goal for Journey was to “innovate how it feels between people on the internet,” Chen said. “Can we invent the right environment, the right feedback, to bring out something that we’re more proud of? And to have an online game where people feel friendly and compassionate towards each other?” He elaborated further later in our conversation. “We want to see two people going through the journey together, [like when] in our life, we meet someone special, and we travel with them, and eventually, we might depart from each other.”

“Human beings, unfortunately, are giant babies”

While it was a profound ideal, “the reality is: human beings, unfortunately, are giant babies in the virtual world,” Chen said. “No matter how old you are, even if you’re in your 70s, if we move you from Earth and into a virtual space, [that person] would become a giant baby. A baby doesn’t know what is a good moral value versus what is a bad moral value. The baby only knows: if I’m in a new environment, I’m going to try to push the buttons and see what kind of feedback I can get, and babies are great at looking for maximum feedback.”

To encourage compassion, the team tested a lot of ideas. They tried a system inspired by Gears of War that let you help out an incapacitated friend but found that even in playtests among the developers, the player would rather not help the other person out. “That way, they create a lot of anxiety in the other player and make the other player more angry. And they actually get more gratification out of the feedback,” Chen said.

They also tested a mechanic where one person could push the other high up, and then that person would pull the first. “But once we gave this physics simulation to the players, they chose to push each other off the wall and see them fall from the cliff and die, waiting to be helped,” Chen said.

During those tests, people would say, “I would rather play this game alone. Why do you force me to play with this other person? I hate them,” according to Chen. That’s because “killing is much bigger feedback than just helping the other person to get on a ledge,” Chen said.

“At the time, I was like, ‘Is humanity at its core just dark?’”

The challenges of making those mechanics work affected Chen. “At the time, I was like, ‘Is humanity at its core just dark?’” he said. But a child psychologist helped Chen see things in terms of the way babies view feedback. “If you don’t want babies to do something terrible, give them zero feedback,” he recalled learning from her. “Don’t give them negative feedback because they will misinterpret that as positive feedback.”

That led to a change that would have a huge effect on the game: when you got close to someone, you’d recharge their energy. (In the final game, you use your energy to fly.) “And so that makes people feel like ‘Oh, I love to stay near someone because I don’t have to run to find the energy,’” he said. “So they end up sticking together, and they travel together, and they form a companionship. That was just one simple change. From assholes who want to kill each other and dancing around their corpse, creating hatred, to ‘hey, they’re all lovey-dovey, they’re helping each other, and they couldn’t leave each other.’”

A friend and I hanging out on our quest.

The team also had to experiment to land on the musical chirps that players can use to communicate with each other. They tried a “thumbs up and thumbs down idea” where you could push the thumbstick up to show a green ping and push it down to show a red ping. But in testing, the majority of pings were red as players spammed them to bug their partner to do what they wanted, which created feelings of stress.

“Eventually, we realized it’s better just to keep it neutral,” Chen said. “And then we let the frequency and the amplitude [of the ping] be interpreted by the other player. But we noticed that when we don’t add context, people usually interpret the other person’s intention positively. I think that’s deep down our human nature.”

The chirp is like a musical instrument

Even though the chirp is intended to be neutral, it’s not a static noise. It’s almost like a musical instrument, and its sound evolves throughout the game, Journey composer Austin Wintory told me. “At the very beginning of the game, it’s very bird-like, and there’s flute and little bits of cello,” he said. But over the course of the game, you’ll hear more of a human voice within that sound. “So by the time you’re in the clouds and the very big finale, especially if you do one of the big charged up [pings], you can really hear there’s a human voice in there.” (The human voice used in the pings is Lisbeth Scott, who sings Journey’s end credits.)

The humanity in the design of Journey , from the human voice in the chirps to the multiplayer design that encourages cooperation, is so much of what makes the game memorable for me. As I climbed the mountain with my companion the first time I played the game, I realize now that while I may have been huddled close to my friend to try and share my energy, deep down, I just wanted to do everything I could to help them get up that mountain — and I knew they were doing the same for me.

Ahead of talking to Chen and Wintory, I replayed Journey for the first time since it came out. Despite how much I love the game, I’ve always worried another run would change how I feel about it. I was so fearful of how it might contort my memories that I was actively procrastinating on playing it.

To my surprise, the experience was just as powerful. Ten years on, there are still people playing Journey , and I met four other companions who were part of my adventure. I even made a new friend who stuck by my side through the snowy climb to the mountain’s summit — and through the joyful flight to the peak.

My companion and I walking together at the very end of the game.

Journey is available on PS3, PS4, PS5, PC, and iOS. Composer Austin Wintory has also just released a re-orchestration of the Journey soundtrack performed by the London Symphony Orchestra titled “Traveler — A Journey Symphony.” I’ve listened to it and thought it was very good.

Journey PS4 may be out in two weeks, if you don't stop believin'

UPDATE: Journey's PS4 release is the 21st of July . It's official.

Journey's rune-etched scarf will reach acrooooooss the generation gap and wrap up PS4 in two weeks, according to Sony documents. Though the the PS4 version of Thatgamecompany's magnum opus is still listed simply for "summer" elsewhere, Docs for PlayStation puts it at July 21.

You may have unknowingly used Docs for PlayStation to read the electronic manuals for recent first-party PS4 games, though Sony also hosted its official E3 2015 experience guide on the site. The same document has entries for a number of other upcoming PS4 games like Uncharted 4 and Street Fighter 5 with release dates listed as "TBD."

The document's official, but it's still an oddly low-key way to announce the release date for the new-and-improved version of one of the best games ever . I've asked Sony to confirm the date and will update this story if I hear back.

The PS4 version of Journey will run at 1080p and 60 frames per second , which should be the only changes that players notice. If you owned Journey on PS3, you'll also get the PS4 version for free - just like Thatgamecompany's two previous projects, Fl0w and Flower.

Journey Is a Great Co-Op Game Despite Its Single-Player Focus

Since its release 10 years ago, Journey has had a profound impact on gaming; not only with its story, but how it handles cooperative play.

It has been 10 years since Thatgamecompany's Journey was first released on the PlayStation 3 via PlayStation Network. Games have changed a lot since then; not just in how they handle narratives, but also in how they incorporate cooperative gameplay. The medium has become a platform in which stories can be experienced by multiple players. Titles like Portal 2 and the more recent It Takes Two have taken full advantage of the cooperative nature of their games; letting players get a deeper understanding of the characters they play and their connection to each other.

Journey is unique in that its gameplay does not require cooperation. Players can complete the game without the help of another person. Puzzles that involve activities like simultaneously stepping on switches or boosting each other up to higher platforms (both of which are found in abundance in a game like It Takes Two ) are nowhere to be found. Instead of forcing co-op on its players, Journey instead focuses on creating a unique experience that is better experienced with another player.

RELATED: Why Journey Is Still A Masterpiece Ten Years On

Co-Op Gameplay Is Very Limited In Journey

Looking at things from a gameplay perspective, Journey players who come into contact with each other can do a limited number of things. They charge their scarves while in proximity to one another, allowing them to levitate. This levitation mechanic is also present in a solo game, the only difference being that the single player has to make contact with floating pieces of red cloth found throughout Journey 's world.

Apart from providing their companion with a mobile charging station (i.e. themselves), the only thing co-op players can do is communicate via a series of chirps. There is no voice or text chat in Journey , and the only way players can see the name of their companion/s is by completing the game.

The minimal amount of communication, coupled with the inability for players to "grief" one another by halting each other's progress, allows players to focus on the experience Journey wants them to have. The game is devoid of any understandable speech; instead opting to tell its story through visuals and sound. From the dunes of the starting desert to the snowcapped ruins, to the eventual peak of the mountain that serves as the game's goal, players feel Journey 's story rather than have it expressly told to them.

Seamless Co-Op Keeps Journey Going

It was mentioned earlier in passing that Journey allows for multiple companions for a single player . When a player decides to take a break from their journey, they can pause the game and drop out. Doing so will remove them from the other player's game. However, instead of leaving the other player to finish the rest of their game alone, Journey will match them with another person who is going through the same part of the story. This process is seamless for the player, as they will soon come upon another scarf person while on their adventure.

A lot has been said about Journey 's art, minimalist style , and of course, the amazing soundtrack by Austin Wintory. However, the way it handles co-op without forcing it on the player shouldn't be understated. Co-op games tend to be a mixed bag. Depending on the way the gameplay is handled, players can either grow to loath their companions or praise them for their helpfulness. Thanks to the unintrusive way Thatgamecompany implemented Journey's co-op, the shared experience players have with each other is as profound, heartfelt, and reflective as playing through the game solo.

Journey is available now on PC, PS3, and PS4.

Journey: is the second player a real person.

PlayStation 4's Journey, free during Sony's Play At Home initiative, features seamless multiplayer, but is the other person real or sometimes A.I.?

The PlayStation 4's Play At Home initiative is meant to encourage people to stay at home with free games, including developer thatgamecompany's beautiful Journey . The unique, emotional game earned praise for its art-worthy visuals and award-nominated soundtrack, but one of its most notable features is its seamless, wordless multiplayer. Without text or voice chat, though, it can be hard to tell if Journey' s other player companions are real people or A.I. fakes.

Along with Journey , the Play At Home program includes Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection in an effort to keep players busy and entertained while practicing COVID-19 social distancing. Both games are free to download and keep for all PS4 owners - regardless of their PlayStation Plus subscription status - if secured before May 5. The Uncharted games are single-player, which has its own appeal during social distancing and self-quarantines, but part of what makes video games appealing in the current pandemic is their ability to connect people separated by physical space.

Related: WHO Recommends Playing Video Games To Stay Safe Against Coronavirus

Journey' s multiplayer does just that, but it does so in a way few other games have. Multiplayer is seamlessly integrated, with players simply happening upon each other in the game world, and players have only simple chirps to signal to one other. Journey has no chat system of any kind, and it doesn't even have an emote system to allow for more complicated silent communication, leaving some players wondering if they're actually playing alongside real human beings.

Is Journey's Other Player A Real Person Or An A.I. Companion?

PlayStation's online ecosystem is part of what makes Journey' s multiplayer functionality so vague. Normally, multiplayer gameplay requires a PlayStation Plus subscription , but Journey players run into other player characters even if they're not paying PS Plus members. While this may appear to indicate these other characters are just A.I. facsimiles, it seems Journey' s co-op just doesn't require a PS Plus subscription. According to the game's store page, its online features "require an account," but there's no mention of PS Plus, so this seems to refer simply to a basic PlayStation Network account. Descriptions for games like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare , on the other hand, include phrases like "requires PlayStation®Plus membership to access online multiplayer," while Journey does not.

Of course, it's entirely possible that A.I. companions could be substituting for real ones when players' online connections drop, as some Journey -playing forum users have conspiracy-theorized. But there's an easy way to prove this false: At the end of a Journey playthrough, the game tells players the usernames of the others they met along the way. These are real accounts that users can message and send friend requests to, and it's highly unlikely thatgamecompany created fake accounts just to sell an illusion. In fact, it seems that if players lose connection or otherwise don't have internet access while playing, they'll simply go through the game alone, further proving the legitimacy of this must-play PS4 game's multiplayer .

Share All sharing options for: Here's why I won't be playing Journey on PlayStation 4

is journey available on ps4

Within one minute of playing the PlayStation 4 version of Journey , before the opening credits even came up, I understood that I would never download this game.

I was attending a Sony event, where the company was showing off games that make up its Gamescom push. I put my name down to play the biggies, like Bloodborne and Until Dawn , and I was genuinely excited to see an  updated version of Journey.

Back in 2012, I had played thatgamecompany's gentle little exploration-puzzle adventure on PlayStation 3, and I had adored it. Journey is a perfect thing, a magical experience that whispers both inspiring and melancholy notions.

Last year  I spoke to Journey 's director Jenova Chen. It was clear from talking to him that this was a carefully constructed work of art, that the feelings I and many others encountered during and after play had been summoned with immense forethought and effort.

So why won't I buy Journey on PlayStation 4? What's wrong with the game?

The answer, is nothing.

It is the exact same game as the original, re-presented for a more advanced console, and that is good. Can you imagine if they had tried to add on some extra levels, or thrown in some goofy new challenges? Unthinkable.

The decision to bring the game to a new platform is entirely laudable. Making use of PlayStation 4's capabilities, this game looks crisper, sounds nicer and plays more smoothly. It is presented in 1080p at a target of 60 frames per second.

Early in the game, set in a desert, I climb a dune as a gust of hot wind kicks up golden sand around my character. It feels gorgeous. It reminds me of how much I enjoyed the original.

No doubt, if I compared this moment with the same scene on the PlayStation 3, the visual and audio differences would be firmly obvious. But, outside the realm of YouTube comparative videos, that is not what happens in real life and it is certainly not the point of Journey .

I spent three hours with this game, two years ago and those three hours have taken on a significance as one of my favorite few hours of gaming ever. This is not about fuzzy nostalgia. It is a real and happy recollection. No amount of touch-ups and fidelity tweaks are going to compare with my shining memories.

Journey small

It becomes obvious to me, playing again for a short time, that I do not wish to try to repeat those few hours. I am not one of those people who enjoys returning to books, movies, TV shows or games, once experienced. Sure, when I was younger, I'd re-watch favorite things, but as I get older, as time takes on a finite definition, the urge has left me. Perhaps I have also learned that to do so, takes something away from the original experience.

Already, just playing a few minutes of Journey on PlayStation 4, I'm reminded that the moment-to-moment playing of the game is not as mystical as the memory of it as a complete thing. That the first time I meet another player in the game is never going to match the joyous original. The nice feeling of the wind is just an echo of that last section of the game, that wraps it all up so satisfactorily.

Even though I won't be downloading this game, I urge you to consider doing so, when it arrives later this year. If you own a PS4 and did not play the original, it is an absolute must. If you did play the original and enjoy returning to great old games, this will not disappoint, especially as it will be available for free to those who  bought the PS3 version . And if you are a Journey player who loves to be in the game, communing with others, here is a whole new audience to experience.

The reason I won't be buying Journey on PlayStation 4 is simply because I remember it as one of the best games ever made. To do so, might spoil it for me.

Another Crab's Treasure: Kril the kermit crab

Is Another Crab’s Treasure on PS5 or PS4? Answered

Image of Sharmila Ganguly

Now that Aggro Crab’s latest underwater adventure,  Another Crab’s Treasure , has finally made it to the market, many wonder whether it’s available on PS5 or PS4. If you are among them, don’t worry, we have the answer.

Set in the beautiful yet polluted oceanic depths,  Another Crab’s Treasure  follows the story of a Kril, the hermit crab. Having lost his protective shell, Kril is determined to get it back, but the journey isn’t easy (it’s a soulslike game, after all). Interestingly, while trash plays a crucial role in Kril’s world, it is also discovered to be the source of a mysterious and dangerous infection, leaving a puzzling adventure for the adorable crab (you) to solve.

Well, now that Kril’s challenges have managed to grab your attention, here’s whether you can experience it on your PlayStation console.

Is Another Crab’s Treasure available on PS5 or PS4?

is journey available on ps4

Yes,  Another Crab’s Treasure  is available on PS5  via the PlayStation Store but  isn’t available on PS4 .

Another Crab’s Treasure  released on April 25 for PC (Steam and  Xbox Game Pass ), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.

Unfortunately, if you are still stuck with a last-gen PS4 console (or an Xbox One,) you can’t play  Another Crab’s Treasure .

Interestingly, while developer Aggro Crab skipped releasing  Another Crab’s Treasure  ports for last-gen platforms, we still have a Nintendo Switch version. Developers of modern video games usually skip on Switch ports, but Aggro Crab hasn’t followed suit. Of course, it’d be even better if PS4 (and Xbox One) players had a chance to join the crab adventure, too.

Developer Aggro Crab hasn’t spoken about the game’s lack of PS4 port or plans to release one in the future, so it’s unlikely the underwater adventure will come to the platform. So, if you have been waiting for the perfect time to upgrade your console, now is probably it.

Fallout 4's next-gen update: How to get it and will it break your mods?

is journey available on ps4

Fans of the hit video game Fallout 4 should get excited as the highly anticipated next-gen update is available now.

Gamers with a PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X or a PC will have access to the next-gen update and it's reportedly a big one, weighing in at 56.5 GB to download on the PS5.

Some of the updates in this free update include performance and quality mode settings, increased frames per second and resolution, bug fixes and support for widescreen and ultra-widescreen support.

Check out what else you need to know about the new free Fallout 4 update available now.

Is the Fallout 4 next-gen update out yet?

Yes, the Fallout 4 next-gen update is available for download now across various platforms.

If you have a PS5, Xbox Series X or a PC the update is ready to download.

Issues with Fallout 4 next-gen update on PS5

If you're having trouble getting the new Fallout 4 update to download for PS5, you're not alone.

While game maker Bethesda said the PS5 update would be available for free to anyone who owns Fallout 4, they might have excluded players who have the PS+ version of the game.

If you fall into that category, you have the option to download the PS4 version or pay $19.99 to unlock the PS5 update.

How to get next-gen in Fallout 4?

Are you trying to figure out how exactly to get the download for Fallout 4's next-gen update? Here's how to get it on PS5, Xbox Series X and PC.

  • PS5 and PS4: Once you have access to the update, select which version of Fallout 4 you want to download via your Collection. Then scroll through your games and select Fallout 4. This will bring up a menu to select the PS4 and PS5 versions of the game. Make your selection and it will automatically start downloading.
  • Xbox Series X: Go to "My games and app" then click "see all," then "manage" and it should give you the option to click on any available updates. Click on update for Fallout 4 and it will automatically start downloading.
  • PC: Launch the Steam application, click on the library tab, right-click on Fallout 4 and select the update option. Then, you'll select properties from the pop-up menu and select the updates tab. You can also select to keep the game updated automatically in the automatic updates section.

Will Fallout 4 next-gen update break mods?

Yes, it's possible that if you've downloaded any mods to your Fallout 4 game that they could break with the new update.

Especially with the new Fallout TV show airing , many players have been downloading new mods inspired by the show.

Bethesda stated in a post on X on Thursday that "access to both Creation Club and / or the Mods Menu will temporarily be unavailable."

There's no word on when those features will be up and running again, but Bethesda's X post also said to keep an eye on the status page at beth.games/4ba7xUT .

Is the Fallout 4 PS5 upgrade free?

Yes, the Fallout next-gen update is free for PS5, Xbox Series X and PC.

This free update will include several upgrades and fixes and these vary based on the console you're playing on.

PS Plus Collection

We’re nearing the end of April already and summer is fast-approaching. This means that another batch of PlayStation Plus games are on the horizon, though we still have a bit of a wait to find out what they’re going to be.

This month’s lineup wasn’t terrible but it wasn’t the best, either. Sony gave PS Plus Essential subscribers Immortals Of Aveum, Minecraft Legends and Skul The Hero Slayer, which was by far the highlight of the month in my humble opinion.

Read on for more information on next month’s PS Plus lineup.

What Is PlayStation Plus And How Much Does It Cost?

PS Plus is Sony’s monthly membership program that grants access to online gaming. You don’t need it for streaming movies or TV shows on Netflix and other services, or for free-to-play games like Warzone or Fortnite. Any paid online games, however, require a subscription.

There are three PS Plus tiers—Essential, Extra and Premium—though for the purposes of this post we’re only discussing the Essential tier’s free monthly games. Following a big price-hike , these tiers cost: PS Plus Essential — $79.99/year; PS Plus Extra — $134.99/year; PS Plus Premium — $159.99/year.

Best Nintendo Switch Games: It’s Mario’s World, We’re Just Visiting

When will sony reveal next month’s ps plus games.

Sony reveals the following month’s games on the last Wednesday of the month, though this isn’t always the case. The actual rule of thumb is that the new lineup always releases on the first Tuesday of the month and the games are revealed the previous Wednesday.

This means that we won’t actually get an official reveal until Wednesday, May 1st. May’s free PS Plus lineup will then come out on Tuesday, May 7th. Subscribers will have until then to download this month’s free games.

PS Plus May Leaks, Rumors And Predictions

So far, there have been no leaks or rumors or confirmations of any of May’s PS Plus games. The only title I know of releasing on PlayStation on May 7th is Prison Architect 2, which is a possible contender for a day-one PS Plus release. The game is available on the PlayStation Store to pre-order , however, so this seems unlikely.

I’ll update this post if/when any leaks or rumors do drop, but for now we’ll have to stick with my prediction / wishful thinking list (some of these are not good games, but since Sony often gives out poorly-received titles this makes them likely contenders).

  • Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
  • Need For Speed Unbound
  • The Outer Worlds
  • Demon’s Souls
  • The Order 1886
  • The Last Of Us Part 1
  • LEGO Jurassic World
  • Marvel's Midnight Suns
  • Tales of Arise
  • Cult Of The Lamb
  • Little Nightmares 2
  • Star Wars Jedi: Survivor
  • Nier: Automata
  • Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice
  • Metal: Hellsinger
  • Donut Country
  • Dead Island 2
  • Metro Exodus
  • Skull Island: Rise Of Kong
  • The Walking Dead: Destinies
