Justice is the greatest thing to come out of Paris since Daft Punk. In my opinion, they have earned their place in the Electronic Music hall of fame. These aren’t your typical club/party kind of DJs, These guys sell out arenas worldwide. There music is bigger than a region or genre as it connects to all sorts of people throughout the world. Much like Daft Punk, Justice’s shows are an immersive experience sure to satisfy all the senses. Their unique sound is a gritty mix of guitar riffs and hard synth. They are heavily influenced by Prog Rock and New-wave. From their massive stage to the excellent lighting effects this show felt unlike any event I ever been to. Even if you never heard a Justice Song before it is not difficult to get into the show. Justice is a French duo consisting of Gaspard Michel Andre Auge and Xavier de Rosnay. They are probably the most successful groups to come out of Paris’ famed “Ed Banger Records”. Some of Justice’s biggest hits include D.A.N.C.E., Civilization and Genesis. If you have a chance to go to a Justice show you should definitely go. They rarely ever tour in the states and this is one act that you will not want to miss!

Justice is one of those artists that make you feel larger than life, like you have a purpose, like your purpose is to dance your ass off and never stop. “Do the D-A-N-C-E 1, 2, 3, 4, fight,” you see, they even instruct you on how to accomplish this. I watched them for the first time live in the Boulevard Pool at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas. Anybody that has seen a show here knows that the ground shakes incessantly and I for one did not mind at all. My one expectation was to be in awe of the giant light up cross and while I was not amazed by the size of the structure, the rest of the sounds swept me away. That is mostly their intention after all. Justice pulls a lot of their inspiration from Michael Jackson, so expect some of the hippest and slickest kids of our generation getting down with their bad selves in the crowd. Not only did everybody in this crowd have the moves, but they also had the best shoes. This was not so much the case when I saw them at Coachella or HARD Summer, these were also DJ sets and I was not as impressed with them as I was during a live set.

Great show, great venue, good sound, good vibes, good people. The show was a bit better than last time at the WeLoveGreen fest. Always a bit sad they almost don't address the audience, but that's just the way they are. They play good music, that's what we pay for.

The best live experience! Was worth the wait the atmosphere was amazing. The merchandise was awesome too! The support was great and so were the lighting effects! Only wish i could see them again. 10/10 would recommend:)

Wonderful light efects and the show was it, THE BEST SHOW that I have ever seen. The after party with Busy P was a crazy thing, everybody dancing on the dance floor like if the world was going to die.

Justice Announced New ‘Justice: Live’ US Tour Dates And Revealed The Full ‘Hyperdrama’ Tracklist, Including A Single With Miguel

Megan Armstrong

On January 24, Justice announced their Hyperdrama album would be released on April 26. At the time of the announcement, the band dropped “One Night/All Night” with Tame Impala and “Generator.” The NSFW video for “Generator” arrived in mid-February. Justice continued their album rollout on Wednesday, March 20, by releasing “Saturnine (Starring Miguel ),” which can be heard above, and revealing the album’s full tracklist. The French duo, comprised of Xavier De Rosnay and Gaspard Augé, also announced new US dates on their upcoming Justice: Live tour.

“We don’t think we’ve ever made anything that sounds remotely like this track before,” Justice said in a statement. “It started with Gaspard playing around with an E-mu synthesizer guitar sound, and he found the main riff. The rest came very quickly. We love Miguel’s voice when it’s raw. We wanted him to sound outrageously frontal, with no space around his voice. We felt confident we could make this work with a single mono take of his voice and minimal processing. It also suited the theme of the song, that is this sort of fear and loathing in Las Vegas sweaty, hallucinatory flow. Feeling well in feeling bad.”

Miguel added, “Been friends with Xavier and Gaspard for some years now, so to finally work together and get a great song has been the best experience. Merging our sounds felt effortless.”

All The Best New R&B Music From This Week

Dance duo Justice just crushed Coachella. Eight years between albums, ‘We don’t like to be too exposed.’

Two men in black suits playinig synthesizers on stage

At peak time on the opening night of the first weekend of Coachella, atop the Outdoor Theater stage, Gaspard Augé and Xavier de Rosnay’s silhouettes were unmistakable. The two members of the French electronic duo Justice hovered over a table of inscrutable-looking mixers and audio gear, the lanky Augé’s curly hair and De Rosnay’s angular suit cutting through the fog and panels of LED lights that bent and refracted around them.

The return of the duo — one of the most influential acts in club music since its early-aughts debut — was one of the most anticipated dance sets of the weekend. Eight years since its last proper album, it reasserted that its suave, hooky funk — upended by twitchy samples and grinding distortion — retained all its potency.

“That was great fun,” Augé said backstage at the festival the next morning, looking only a little less imposingly cool dressed in satiny civilian clothes. “With every new cycle of a record, we’re like, ‘Look how fast the musical landscape is evolving, who is going to come see us?’ It was a bit stressful especially since the new album was not out yet, but it was great to see people reacting to the new material.”

That new album, “Hyperdrama,” released last week, is as meticulous and bombastic as any in their tight, impeccable catalog. But with a new crop of top-tier guest vocalists (Tame Impala, Miguel and Thundercat among them), it has the most crossover appeal since their groundbreaking 2007 debut.

“We started with the idea that it was too late to be late,” De Rosnay laughed. “We’re like, ‘Let’s take as long as it’s gonna take, with unlimited time and unlimited resources to make this recording. Let’s let’s push it as far as we can go and see what happens.’”

Ever since it rose from the heady 2000s Parisian club scene built around its label Ed Banger, Justice sounded like dance music but acted like a classic rock act. The chattier De Rosnay and contemplative Augé built an iconography straight out of a Black Sabbath double-gatefold vinyl, with a scholar’s attention to Steely Dan’s analog signal chains. They took what they needed from club music on hits like “D.A.N.C.E.” while aiming much bigger — acts from The Weeknd to U2 and Red Hot Chili Peppers were huge fans. It’s fitting that their 2019 Grammy win for Dance/Electronic Album came from “Woman Worldwide,” a live-remix LP pulling from 2016’s “Woman,” hits more like the Who’s “Live At Leeds” or MC5’s “Kick Out The Jams.”

When they got back in studio post-pandemic, they wanted to shake up their longstanding approach to tracking live instruments themselves, then serrating them digitally. They were intrigued by the structures of modern hip-hop, where tracks smash together in chaotic, exhilarating pivots. They figured it out with “Incognito,” a centerpiece of “Hyperdrama” that flips back and forth from orchestral swells to hi-NRG synth pop to white-knuckle noise.

Justice plays on stage at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival on Friday, April 12, 2024 in Indio, CA.

“We had these type of tracks where they have these abrupt ruptures, kind of like a hardcore aesthetic, but composed in a way that is a bit melancholic,” De Rosnay said. “We wrote as many parts as possible, until we could get to the juice of our music, that one loop we can listen to forever, and scrub the rest. Everything is rave, then everything is disco, with no overlapping elements.”

Tracks such as the thrashing, nervous “Generator” abut gentler, campy-vampy material such as “Moonlight Rendez-vous.” To tie it all together, the pair turned to a formidable roster of guest vocalists, whose melodic chops give “Hyperdrama” some structure and tenderness. Justice has long made creative use of vocals and samples, but with Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker on “Neverender” and “One Night/All Night,” Miguel’s velveteen leads on “Saturnine” and Thundercat’s exultant falsetto on “The End,” the album feels grounded through all the hard pulls across genre.

They chose vocalists that were “all very independent in the sense that they perform and produce their music themselves with no compromise,” De Rosnay said, noting contributions from indie and R&B acts such as Rimon, Connan Mockasin and the Flints.

Justice typically takes five-plus years to make its records, an eternity in the always-churning streaming era. It didn’t completely disappear: In 2019, it released a deliciously confounding concert film, “Iris: A Space Opera by Justice,” filmed with no crowd attending. Augé released a solo LP, “Escapades,” in 2021.

Since it left off, the kind of sophisticated disco-funk it loves to rip apart became a major force on top-40 pop. But how has the audience expectations for it shifted since? It would totally take the mystery out of Justice if it ever got on TikTok. Can a band that’s purposefully, almost anachronistically distant keep the interests of today’s crowds, accustomed to constant connection?

“We’re happy giving them something that we think is relevant and finished,” Augé said. “But nothing disposable.”

“It’s harder in terms of like purely commercial achievements, but that’s fine,” De Rosnay said. “We want as many people as possible to listen to it. But not at any price or by any means. We don’t like to be too exposed. I love Marc Bolan from T. Rex, and I bought a documentary about him, and like four minutes in I was like ‘Oh no, I don’t want to see that, I don’t care who he is in private.’”

Justice plays on stage at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival on Friday, April 12, 2024 in Indio, CA.

For millennial fans, the era that Justice came up in, now cheekily referred to as “indie-sleaze,” is lovingly remembered as a last gasp of nightlife pre-iPhone, where crazy Parisian house music ripped through sweaty nightclubs, and one could dance (or do other things) without permanent digital evidence. Gen Z crowds look back on the rowdy Ed Banger heyday with the same longing that ’90s rock fans showed for the freewheeling ’70s.

While Justice’s members are students of music history, they’re a little baffled about how that era came to be remembered as a golden era for nightlife.

“I’m not sure it was better,” Augé said. “Maybe from the phone aspect, where you don’t have that instant recall.”

“I think we were very lucky to be part of the scene when we were young,” De Rosnay said. “But we actually felt like something big was happening in California before we felt it in Europe. It was very underground. It was really fun, but we have no nostalgia.”

As the duo shipped off from the Coachella grounds to relax after the previous night’s full-throttle performance, it felt the new material made headway with tens of thousands Coachella-goers who didn’t know what to expect after so much time off the road. With Daft Punk now officially retired, Justice is the standard-bearers for the storied legacy of French electronic music, despite doing everything possible to subvert and tear it up on record. One song on “Hyperdrama,” “Dear Alan,” is a devoted tribute to Alan Braxe, the famed French house producer who helped forge the genre they’ve now eclipsed.

De Rosnay did take some pride in finally winning over at least one young new Justice listener that night — his own daughter.

“She used to have no interest in what we were making, which is fair enough,” De Rosnay laughed. “We started making music together 20 years ago, so now it feels that it’s cycling into a new generation of listeners, and some of them are very young. This morning, she texted me to say, ‘Oh, was it good last night?’ But I think whatever I do, if I’m wearing like a certain type of clothes, to her, it’s not cool.”

Justice to return with new album and tour in 2024

The French duo are back in business after five years

Justice are working on a new album and tour, according to Ed Banger label founder, Pedro Winter, AKA Busy P.

Winter shared the news that the band will be emerging from their five-year hiatus in an interview with French radio news station,  France Inter . “...The return of Justice. Now it’s official. I can tell you now. There will be a new album and a new tour in 2024”.

It will be the fourth studio album from the Parisian duo, and their first since 2016’s ‘Woman’. Despite teasing new material on a couple of occasions since then, a 2021 solo album from the group’s Gaspard Augé has been the only new project to materialise.

During their hiatus, the duo celebrated their decade-and-a-half milestone with a slew of reissues, including a 15th anniversary deluxe edition of their landmark debut album, ‘†’, and fresh vinyl pressings of 2008’s celebrated live record, ‘A Cross the Universe’, and the Dior soundtrack, ‘Planisphere’, which was first released the same year.

Justice also shared the original demo of ‘D.A.N.C.E.’, which helped initially catapult the duo to major figures in the French house scene. Released last June via Ed Banger Records / Because Music, the demo features on the ‘D.A.N.C.E.’ (Extended) EP, and includes the original 2007 Stuart Price, Jackson, MSTRKRFT, and Alan Braxe & Fred Falke remixes.

What do we know about Justice’s upcoming album “Hyperdrama”?

Justice at Coachella 2017 picture by Roger Ho via https://www.facebook.com/etjusticepourtous/photos/pb.100044497687049.-2207520000/10156110755267519/

Justice ‘s “ Hyperdrama ” is their first album in over seven years, following “ Woman .” Pedro Winter of Ed Banger Records confirmed a 2024 release and tour. Teasers feature a collaboration with Tame Impala ‘s Kevin Parker, promising a thrilling mix of electro sounds and unexpected surprises.

This is the time that fans of the famous French electro duo Justice have been eagerly awaiting: a brand new album. The excitement reached a new high when they announced that their next album, “ Hyperdrama ,” would be coming out soon. The title of Justice’s long-awaited record and a sneak peek at one of its tracks have been revealed. Here’s everything else we know about it.

Fans are eagerly waiting for Justice’s next album. It will follow “ Woman ,” which came out in 2016. Now, Gaspard Augé and Xavier de Rosnay are coming back strong with “ Hyperdrama ,” their first movie together in over seven years.

The excitement grew when Pedro Winter, who runs Ed Banger Records and has worked with Justice for a long time, revealed the news. Winter told everyone that the two would be putting out a new record and going on tour in 2024. Justice are also scheduled to play Coachella in 2024 . Be prepared to hear live the album there.

Justice seem also to be working together with The Weeknd.

Even with the most recent news, some things about “ Hyperdrama ” are still unknown. It had not been announced yet when the album would be released or what songs would be on it. However, Justice’s preview video on their official Instagram account, which features the song “ One Night/All Night ” with Tame Impala , gives fans a sneak peek at what’s to come.

The song “One Night/All Night” with Kevin Parker of Tame Impala adds an interesting element to the record. Some of the lyrics, like “ I could be your woman ” and “ cause I want to feel the pleasure ,” give you an idea of the sound and feel that Justice might explore in “ Hyperdrama .”

Justice’s success has been greatly helped by their work with Pedro Winter and their long-term connection with Ed Banger Records. The label boss, whose real name is Busy P, has worked with the duo since 2007, when their first record, “…,” came out.

This album simply made me travel on high altitudes of pink neon beats and dark scarlet satanic rhythms. The variety in the genre and the deepness it's absurd. The storytelling wraps it up amazingly. marcosdk24

It's hard to think of what to say about this album other than how fun it is to listen to. Basically every other track is either a bop (Such as Rocamble and Belladone) or a strong vibe (Like the serene-sounding Casablanca or the bittersweet sounding Captain). This album is not afraid to get a little bit silly but it never goes overboard with it; the only track I'm not big on is Force majeure (which feels a tad overblown). Really excellent solo project by 1/2 of Justice! Menzi

Justice

Proving just how all-encompassing the French touch style can be, Justice builds on its vintage funk, disco, and house foundations by adding prog, metal, new wave, indie, and a lot of devilmay-care attitude. Starting with the Grammy-nominated 2007 single "D.A.N.C.E." and that year's full-length t (aka Cross), the Parisian duo defined the brash, stylish, yet tongue-in-cheek appeal of their label, Ed Banger Records, in the mid- to late 2000s. From there, their music only grew bolder and more unexpected.

French dance duo Justice are set to return to civilization with new music and a new tour in 2024, the band’s record label boss, Pedro Winter, has revealed.

Speaking to French radio station, France Inter , on June 5, the Ed Banger record label founder, responsible for releasing Justice’s music said, “Is this a scoop? Maybe? I can tell you now. There will be a new album and a new tour in 2024.”

"Est-ce que c'est un scoop ?" Oui ! @edbangerrecords #Justice #WeLoveGreen @WeLoveGreen @JocelynInter @AdeleVanReeth pic.twitter.com/2A1l2xkHr6 — France Inter (@franceinter) June 5, 2023

While band member Gaspard Augé released a solo album Escapades , in 2021, and an anniversary special edition re-release of Justice’s genesis album, Cross , was released in 2022, this will be the first full-length Justice album in seven years. Their last was 2016’s Woman .

It’s been a time of stress for the duo since their last album. In 2021, Justice filed a cease and desist letter to Justin Bieber after the cover of his album, coincidentally called Justice , donned a logo that was a “very conscious ripoff”, Augé said, of Justice’s.

“Your use of the Mark is illegal,” the letter, obtained by Rolling Stone, stated. “You have not received permission from Justice to utilize the Mark. Moreover, Bieber’s work is in no way affiliated with, supported by, or sponsored by Justice. Such use of the Mark is not only illegal but likely to deceive and confuse consumers.”

In lighter news, however, Ed Banger, which paved the way for the likes of Daft Punk, Mr Oizo and Breakbot, celebrates its 20-year anniversary this year.

In March, they held a huge celebratory event at Printworks, which saw Justice DJ alongside Uffie, Breakbot, Busy P, Annie Mac, Brodinksi, Vegyn, Boston Bun and Erol Alkan.

Justice have confirmed their new album and shared its name ‘Hyperdrama’.

  • READ MORE:  Gaspard Augé: “There’s no point asking people what they want – it’s the death of art”

The French electro duo – comprised of Gaspard Augé and Xavier de Rosnay – took to their social media channels on January 1 to wish their fans a Happy New Year and posted a clip of new music .

Yesterday (January 17), Justice shared a snippet of a new track titled ‘One Night/All Night’ featuring Tame Impala, with Kevin Parker singing: “I could be your woman / cause if that’s the only answer / then we could be together / cause I want to feel the pleasure”.

Today (January 18) the duo have taken to their official Instagram account to share a new video teaser announcing the titled of their album ‘Hyperdrama’ with ‘One Night/All Night’ playing in the background.

Details of the album remain scarce as no tracklist, album artwork or release date have been announced at the time of writing.

The LP will mark Justice’s first album in over seven years. It follows their last full length release, 2016’s ‘Woman’, which was their third studio album and was preceded by singles, ‘Pleasure’, ‘Love S.O.S’, ‘Fire’ and ‘Chorus’.

The announcement of ‘Hyperdrama’ comes after Pedro Winter – the boss for Ed Banger Records – previously confirmed Gaspard Augé and Xavier de Rosnay would be releasing a new album and going on tour this year.

“I can tell you right now, they will have a new album and a new tour in 2024,” he said, last summer.

Winter, who is also known by his producer moniker  Busy P , has had an extensive history with the band, and worked with them for all three of their albums. The first time they worked together was on their 2007 debut LP, ‘†’, which was released via the Ed Banger label.

He later told  NME  last October  that the forthcoming LP gave him “goosebumps” and compared it to ‘Cross’ .

“Listening to ‘Cross,’ I had goosebumps – I loved each and every note of this record, and I have goosebumps when I’m listening to the forthcoming [2024] Justice album, too,” he said.

He continued: “I can only be proud as a manager to work witha band that is pushing the boundaries and innovating like them. We are celebrating the 20 years of Ed Banger, but we are also celebrating 20 years of Justice.”

In other news, Justice are set to play this year’s edition of Coachella .

The band announced their appearance at the Palm Springs festival on their Instagram with a caption that read: “We’ll kick off this tour at Coachella where we played our very first live show in 2007. Excited and grateful to be back for our 5th round.”
