"Gateway to the heart of India"

Maharashtra, india.

Often called the 'Gateway to the Heart of India', Maharashtra is the third largest state and second most populous state than in the country. Owing to its proximity to the Western Ghats, it is blessed with a picturesque backdrop of the mountains on one side and has the beautiful Konkan coastal belt on the other.

Maharashtra, the land of everything unlimited invites you into its widespread plethora of attractions. It is adorned by the beautiful Sahyadri ranges of the Western Ghats with high mountains that disappear into the morning mist, while the sprawling belt of the Konkan Coast mesmerises the eyes by its white beaches. The ruins of the ancient forts and palaces in Pune and Ratnagiri among others proudly narrates the story of the then mighty rulers of Maharashtra. Centuries-old temples situated in places like Pandharpur, Ozar are still rooted in their traditions, offering sanctuary to pilgrims. As do the small hill stations of Mahabaleshwar, Lonavala, Matheran, nestled cosily in nature, provide respite to travellers from the hustle and bustle of the cities. People of diverse culture and religion live amicably in this state, which is why there is much ado about the culture of Maharashtra which while retaining its original Marathi culture has beautifully embraced other cultures that have come to call this state their home. Apart from being rich in history, traditional arts and lifestyle, it is also famous for its economy primarily because Mumbai -the financial capital of India is situated here. The entertainment hub - the Bollywood film industry also finds its origin in this state. The amalgamation of these varieties of things that this state offers will make your visit here absolutely worthwhile.

Maharashtra tourism’s revolutionary blueprint for enhanced travel and trade

Monday, February 19, 2024

maharashtra tourism advertisement 2022

The Department of Tourism, under the Government of Maharashtra’s purview, has unveiled an ambitious strategy to bolster travel and trade prospects within the state. Recognizing Maharashtra’s vast potential, the tourism authority aims to capitalize on its distinctive cultural, historical, and natural resources to entice both domestic and international tourists, while also fostering business and trade alliances locally.

Maharashtra, renowned for its diverse terrain, dynamic urban centers, and rich legacy, has perennially captivated travelers and adventurers alike. From the vibrant hub of Mumbai to the serene hill stations of Lonavala and Mahabaleshwar, from the ancient wonders of Ajanta and Ellora caves to the tranquil shores of Alibaug and Tarkarli, the state boasts an array of iconic landmarks. Through a concerted effort to showcase Maharashtra’s abundant splendor and cultural heritage, the Department of Tourism endeavors to establish it as an essential destination on the global tourism map.

In a significant move, Mr. Girish Mahajan, the Minister of Tourism for Maharashtra, has inaugurated an AI-powered WhatsApp chatbot (+91 94038 78864). This innovative tool offers an interactive and informative platform for exploring the state’s cultural heritage, natural marvels, and diverse attractions, all accessible through mobile phones. Equipped to field inquiries regarding destinations, activities, accommodations, and more, in both English and Marathi, this chatbot streamlines trip planning for visitors

While unlocking Maharashtra’s tourism potential demands strategic investments in infrastructure, hospitality, and technology, Mr. Girish Mahajan, Minister of Tourism, Government of Maharashtra, said, “Seamless connectivity, from roadways to air routes, beckons travellers to explore our diverse landscapes. Varied accommodations, from luxury resorts to cosy homestays, cater to all preferences. Embracing digital tools enriches visitor experiences and streamlines services. Yet, sustainability must underpin our efforts, preserving our heritage and supporting local communities. Our journey isn’t just economic—it’s about showcasing Maharashtra’s soul to the world, fostering understanding and appreciation. Let’s unite the government, private sector, communities, and citizens to craft a vibrant, sustainable tourism legacy for generations.”

Commenting on the initiatives by Maharashtra Tourism, Ms. Jayshree Bhoj, Secretary, Department of Tourism, Government of Maharashtra, said, “In Maharashtra, we treasure a tapestry of tourism treasures, from historical marvels to pristine beaches, all ingrained with our rich cultural heritage. As we stride towards 2024-2025 with aspirations of UNESCO recognition for 11 forts, we affirm our commitment to fostering tourism beyond mere travel. Our Department of Tourism diligently crafts policies, amplifies promotions and nurtures diverse experiences in collaboration with stakeholders like MTDC and private players championing niche tourism. We envision a sustainable tourism ecosystem fueled by collaborative efforts and robust policies. Join us on this journey as we sculpt Maharashtra’s tourism narrative together, with an open invitation for valuable insights to shape our forthcoming comprehensive tourism policy.”

The Minister of Tourism for Maharashtra, Mr. Girish Mahajan, has launched an app for the Aai Policy, which is aimed at empowering women entrepreneurs in the tourism sector. The Aai Policy, introduced by the Maharashtra government, intends to register ten women-owned and operated businesses in each district, covering areas such as homestays, hotels/restaurants, tour and travel agencies, and more. This initiative is designed to promote entrepreneurship and economic empowerment among women in the tourism industry throughout Maharashtra.

While taking the delegates through the proposed Tourism Policy, Dr. B N Patil, Director, Directorate of Tourism, said, “Maharashtra’s tourism sector offers significant revenue and job opportunities, with over 5 million jobs generated. To maximize tourist footfall and spending, we’re focusing on strategic initiatives such as rebranding hidden gems, promoting local festivals, and streamlining policies. Through innovation and collaboration, we aim to unlock Maharashtra’s tourism potential, driving economic prosperity for all stakeholders.”

During the panel discussion moderated by Swati Khandelwal Jain, Executive Editor of Zee Business, experts including Mr. Santosh Suryanvanshi, MD (Ayurveda) P.G.C.C (Pancakrarma Therapy); Mr. Chandan Badsavle, Director of Saguna Baug Agro Tourism Pvt. Ltd.; Mr. Vistasp Kharas, Paragliding Profile and Interior Architect; and Mr. Sachin Panchal, Founder of Motohom Caravans, highlighted Maharashtra’s vast tourism potential. They emphasized the state’s diverse landscapes and rich cultural heritage as key drivers for tourism growth.

Discussing niche sectors such as agri-tourism, wellness, and adventure tourism, the panelists emphasized the immersive experiences these sectors offer. Agri-tourism provides insights into rural life and culinary traditions, while wellness tourism draws on ancient healing practices, and adventure tourism capitalizes on Maharashtra’s natural beauty for activities like trekking and water sports.

Maharashtra Tourism, recognizing tourism’s role in economic development, aims to facilitate investments and partnerships. The tourism board plans to collaborate with industry leaders and trade associations to promote opportunities across various sectors. Through targeted initiatives and promotions, Maharashtra Tourism aims to attract entrepreneurs and investors to explore the state’s potential.

Aligned with the state government’s vision, Maharashtra Tourism seeks to position the state as a global tourism and commerce hub. By leveraging its natural and cultural resources, the tourism board aims to create a vibrant ecosystem benefiting both visitors and residents, thereby contributing to the state’s economic growth and prosperity.

Travellers make a beeline for tourist destinations

Officials at mtdc said 80 per cent of their resorts were booked for the weekend and the demand for the resorts has shot up even for the upcoming holidays.

The onset of monsoon and a long weekend has been an ideal time for revellers to make a beeline for popular tourist destinations around Pune — Malshej Ghat, Matheran and Lonavala.

Officials at Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) said 80 per cent of their resorts were booked for the weekend and the demand for the resorts has shot up even for the upcoming holidays.

maharashtra tourism advertisement 2022

“Generally, people club a public holiday — and this time it was Ashadi Ekadashi and Bakri Eid with a weekend. Despite the heavy rain in the ghats, there is a great deal of enthusiasm among people who want to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life,” Deepak Harne, regional manager, MTDC told The Indian Express .

There are 30 resorts of MTDC spread across Maharashtra and some are leased out to other agencies.

Apart from Malshej, Matheran and Lonavala, there is a demand to visit Ajanta and Ellora caves at the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Division of the corporation. “Tourist lodges at Fardapur and Lonar are located in scenic surroundings and are close to world heritage sites. Verul’s temples and caves — carved entirely in stone — apart from the Lonar lake, are an added attraction,” said Harne. The corporation has appealed to tourists to be careful while taking selfies, specially at waterfalls, and advised againts wandering through unknown forests. “We have provided the guidelines at all the tourist lodges of the corporation,” said Dekhane.

Festive offer

The MTDC has also provided facilities for a pre-wedding photo shoot, destination wedding and corporate conferences.

As part of Varsha (monsoon) Tourism, MTDC officials are actively promoting a 50 per cent discount for accommodation facilities for women.

Special concessions have been given for older women, ex-servicemen and for the disabled. Top spots
