First of all,I am heart-rending to read several bad reviews of Marathon Tours and Travel. I am a member of Seven Continents . I booked 2 trips with them: Berlin and Athens marathon package. I had the most wonderful time and everything was more than perfect. The package prices were very reasonable for all the perks we received: beautiful and excellent location hotel, great welcomed party , outstanding pre race dinner, transportation provided to the Expo and tours to certain attractions without paying additional fee for tickets... Secondly, about membership of Seven Continents, it is a one time fee for $200 and $25 actually is credited to each trip you register to go. At the end you finally get a free membership with its benefits truly! People got mad when they did not get the bib to run in certain World Majors Marathon and wrote negative reviews. Please be understanding, there are great demands on these world Majors bib packages, and Marathon Tours only has limited number of bibs. So, how do they distribute bibs to al the members and non members? ( When I joined The World Majors Challenge Group on FB in 2019 , there were only 2200 runners, as up to date, there are more than 22,000 runners). With that being said, we must patiently wait for our turn. It is fair enough! Remember you do not have to be a member to book packages with Marathon Tours and Travel! Thirdly, The trip designers for certain race are excellent! They are patient, nice, kind and take time to answer any questions you may have in a timely manner. Thank you Nicole for wonderful Berlin trip and Karen for the great time in Athens Lastly, Jeff Adams, the President of the company is very compassionate , kind and understanding. His company is not for money. His interest is all about international adventures travel and running himself and his passion is to help us to achieve our goals. Evidently, there are thousands of satisfied members throughout the years. I am looking forward to my future travel to run marathon with them for a long time.l can't wait truly! Nurse Betty Ann

Run from this travel company! don't waste your money. they get you with the fine print -charge you double what you thought on "vip packages". And no refunds. Worst customer service of my life. Someone needs to class action them for their deceptive practices - i'd be in!

Reading all the bad reviews about this tour company makes me sad. Two of them specifically call out the Seven Continents Club and how it's a rip-off or scam... nothing could be further from the truth. The $200 is a one-time fee to join the club, and half of it is returned to you in the form of four $25 tour credits. And this isn't an annual membership fee, but a one-time fee to join. Being a member of the club gives you a leg up on high-demand races that are very hard to get a spot for, like the London Marathon. I've used Marathon Tours successfully now for several years for both hotel bookings as well as full packages. For hotel bookings (for example, for the Boston Marathon), you need to be on your toes to book as soon as the window opens, but they really do give you a large selection, and the prices are very competitive. And they even typically host receptions for runners. And nothing beats someone local that we can contact should anything go awry. We've used Marathon Tours to book packages for the London Marathon, as well as South Africa's famed Comrades Marathon, and the process was very smooth. It was great to have them take care of things like ground transportation. And everything -- from reception to sightseeing tours -- are scheduled around the runner signing up for the destination race, and it's been totally solid. I can go on in glowing terms, but here's the one thing: Covid. Their entire agency was completely disrupted in 2020, and we had to cancel our package to the Berlin Marathon. But the refund and deferment process went smoothly, and we didn't have any trouble whatsoever. And now that the Berlin Marathon is actually happening in-person in fall 2021, they've gone out of their way -- in the middle of a pandemic -- to make sure we had all the necessary information that we needed to travel safely and legally to Germany and back. So if you're a marathoner or half-marathoner and you want to use a race as a destination race, whether for an exotic locale in a faraway land, or a very hard-to-get-in race like the London Marathon, you really want to give Marathon Tours a try. You don't HAVE to be a Seven Continents Club member to sign up for their packages or book a hotel through them.

Marathon Tours created one of my life's greatest experiences. I contacted Scott Guillemette at Marathon Tours who took a lot of time explaining the Marathon and our options in China. When We arrived everything was on point. The tours, hotels, transportation, etc. we're delivered above and beyond. The Great Wall Marathon is a hell of a race. A million things on the race and in China could go wrong so I am glad we made the right choice. It was well organized and nearly killed us. Scott, Bill and the other staff really cared and looked after everyone.

Photo of Quinton V.

Very disappointed in Marathon Tours organization (Thom, Jeff Adams, and Scott Guillemette). DO NOT LOSE YOUR MONEY TO THEM. We were supposed to do the Great Wall Marathon deluxe package. Unfortunately, due to multiple errors, all done by Marathon Tours, I am out over $3000 and only had half a tour (8 day to 4 day), including spending more money for less time. On one of many errors, Scott Guillemette lied about their error (said Chinese consulate changed the form), when actually they did not submit hotel itinerary with application (visa denied). I contacted Chinese consulate directly to find the truth. Ultimately, after over a month of requesting a partial refund, they offered me a 10% discount on next years travel (~$460), which clearly does not make up for the money, time, and emotional aggravation. Bottomline, Marathon Tours is not a stand up organization and appears to allows greed to prevail in their organization. Please do not use this company for any tour or travel packages. Jeff Adams and Scott appear to be helpful, but make no mistake, they will steal you blind while apologizing for doing it. I have given Thom, Jeff, and Scott more than enough opportunities to rectify the situation and they have chosen to double down on blaming suppliers, instead of taking responsibility. Marathon Tours lacks integrity.

****WARNING*** Stay AWAY from this "company". These guys will absolutely rip you off in any possible way they can. Their "VIP" entry guarantee by joining the "7 Continent's Club" is a way of getting $200 from you that you'll NEVER see again and will get you absolutely nothing. You won't get entry into any races they promise you will and you're better off going the way of general lottery. I priced out one of their packages to a World Marathon Major race and found you'd literally be paying almost 3x the cost to go with them which is borderline criminal. This company needs to be put out of business, their practices are absolutely SHAMEFUL.

I signed up with Marathon Tours to have my first international marathon travel experience taken care of. I had family with me and thought an organized tour would free me up from organizing the group and enable me to focus on the race. Marathon Tours sells tour packages for several locations and they have run tours through Medoc for many years. They set us up in a nice hotel in Bordeaux and they provided buses to and from the marathon as well as to the various tour sites. If you are looking more for a party and less for serious running, they are a good group to work with. The Medoc marathon is definitely more of a party than a serious run. With that said there were several challenges. The day before the race was a full day of touring from 9AM to 10PM without any downtime or opportunity to return to the hotel (esp. difficult for those with jetlag). We went on two châteaux tours with a long lunch in between, then a brief (less than an hour) visit to the site that was hosting festivities for the race and then finally we had dinner (which was underwhelming). It was a hot day and the tour company did not bring much water to share with the group and there were limited opportunities to get water. The marathon day started out very early because it was an hour plus drive from Bordeaux to Medoc. The tour guides stressed that there wouldn't be much water along the course and they strongly encouraged everyone to bail at the halfway point. They also told us repeatedly that they would only provide bus transportation up until 5PM that evening, and if we didn't make it back in time we would be on our own to figure out how to get back to the hotel. When several tour participants pressed the tour guides on whether they were serious about this cutoff time, they were told repeatedly that was the time the bus would leave (no flexibility) and the reason given was that the tour guides and others had dinner reservations. Thus, the group rushed back to the bus after the marathon and missed the post race festivities in the area. Interestingly enough, there was plenty of water provided along the race route. One last point about the marathon day--the tour operator does not provide bibs with your name on it. The value of having a bib with your name on it is that the people cheering you on along the route will call out your name and which is a great motivator. The day after the race was a recovery walk that was supposed to be 9K and ended up being 11K. The difference for this walk was that several people who were not part of the marathon were participating because it was supposed to be a leisure walk with wine tasting. Some of those people had fragile health conditions and with the heat index getting into the high 90s that day they were not up for that length of walk in the heat. Despite being warned about a lack of water during the race, we were not given warning about the extra length of the walk or the lack of water (because it was lacking that day) for the leisure walk. At the end of the walk was a lunch where the food was disappointing; at least we were able to get some rest and recoup. For anyone going, I wouldn't recommend the lunch or the post race walk because the value wasn't there. When we were done with lunch, half the group was ready to go back to the hotel while the other half wanted to stay and party. There were two buses, but the tour guides refused to allow the group that was worn out to leave. The people wanting to leave had to stay, and those wishing to party had to leave before they were ready. The plan for the last day of the tour was to go to a couple more chateaux for wine tasting similar to the first day of the tour. It's important to note that throughout the tour, when questions were asked, we were regularly told they didn't know the answer. The general feel was the tour operators were more interested in having fun on the trip than to be bothered with managing the tour. Also, this was their first year with so many tour attendees (70+ with 3 tour guides) that they needed two buses. At that size profits tend to be a priority and the group experience becomes more like moving cattle. General takeaways; I would do the race again in a heartbeat because it was an amazing experience. The people in the marathon were just ridiculously fun and it was wild to watch so many people in costume, drinking and still finishing the marathon. The atmosphere on the course is just wonderful and energetic. I would not participate with the tour group again. This tour really is for those who only want to drink and party and if that is what you are looking for then go for it. You will have fun. It is not for someone who expects the tour group to provide a comfortable trip, take care of details and set you up for success with the marathon.

PLEASE DO NOT GIVE THIS COMPANY A DIME OF YOUR MONEY!!! This company is running a 110% SCAM! The "VIP" entry guarantee you get by joining the "7 Continent's Club" is a $200 fee for absolutely NOTHING (The promise of an entry into a marathon is just a way to siphon off $200 from you). The packages are another way they can squeeze more money from you for an overpriced vacation (and here I thought "Marathon" as the first word in the company name meant this was about actual marathons).

Photo of Christopher F.

I stayed at the Verve in Natick for Boston and everything that could have gone wrong with the company did. The hotel was fine btw. I called the company and they seemed really confused and surprised they were a part of the race. There was no one and nothing organized and when we did find out there was a bus for us it never came. I would rather go through anyone else but them, even spending more just to be closer to the center of the city. Terrible organization and communication.

Photo of Victoria O.

41 Marathons......3 with Marathon Tours. Medoc is the way to go in France! If you love wine and fine restaurants and love to run look no further! 20,000 strong and mostly in costumes! The theme was super hero and I was Wonder Woman! Thom Gillian own does a great job. If you don't have fun in London, Ireland or Medoc it's your own fault! It's not cheap however you get what you pay for. 5 stars! You bet!
