From the Top, Touring Looks Better Than Ever

Artists have been back on the road for a full year, and the top 10 highest-grossing tours are thriving. Will that success spread?

This story is part of Billboard ‘s The Year in Touring package — read more stories about the top acts, tours and venues of 2022 here .

Was 2022 the worst “best year ever?” By some measures, the concert business had its most successful year. From Nov. 1, 2021, to Oct. 31, 2022, the top 10 tours grossed a combined $2.2 billion in ticket sales, according to Billboard Boxscore, 36% more than they did in 2019, the previous full year of touring, and more than four times the $519 million they took in during the pandemic-limited 2021.

Bad Bunny Makes History as Top Touring Act for 2022: The Year in Charts

Some of this growth follows an existing trend. Since 2013, the live business has grown steadily between 5% and 10% a year, thanks to international expansion and an increasing number of megatours. In 2013, eight acts took in over $100 million at the box office — Bon Jovi , P!nk , Bruce Springsteen , Beyoncé , Rihanna , Taylor Swift , The Rolling Stones and the Cirque du Soleil Michael Jackson show.

Trending on Billboard

The bad news, however, is twofold: More work for fewer employees in the wake of pandemic layoffs, plus rising costs for staffing, production and travel, threaten to erode profits. “We are working harder than ever just to try and make sure we don’t lose any ground,” says Jim Cressman, founder and owner of Canadian independent promoter Invictus Entertainment.

Cressman and Live Nation executives say that fans also seem to be changing their concertgoing habits by waiting longer to buy tickets. About 30% of tickets for this year’s Lollapalooza festival in Chicago were purchased five days or fewer before the event, according to Live Nation. It’s a concerning trend for promoters and tour organizers who have become accustomed to scaling event costs up and down based on projections from early sales. Fans are also getting wise to the fact that ticket prices, especially on the secondary market, tend to drop over time.

The names of the top 10 tours won’t surprise anyone who follows the industry. No. 1 is Bad Bunny , who did two tours during this time frame: El Último Tour del Mundo, which ran from February to April and grossed $116 million, and World’s Hottest Tour, which brought in $246 million from August to the end of the Billboard Boxscore touring year; it will run until Dec. 10. The tour dates within this time frame, as well as isolated hometown shows in Puerto Rico, grossed a combined $373.5 million, the third-highest year-end total in Boxscore history after Ed Sheeran ’s $429.5 million in 2018 and The Rolling Stones’ $425 million in 2006.

This is the first year that each tour in the top 10 grossed over $100 million and the top five each took in more than $200 million. Some of that is due to higher ticket prices: Bad Bunny tickets cost an average of $201, while tickets to Sheeran’s No. 1 2019 ÷ (Divide) shows cost an average of $86; the average ticket price of a top 10 tour was $130.76, up from $114.29 in 2019. Some of that growth comes from inflation, of course, while some is from a shift to higher ticket prices in order to capture revenue that once went to the secondary market. “The spending levels are really the same,” says Live Nation Global Touring chairman Arthur Fogel. “It’s just that artists are capturing more of it than ever before.”

Farther down the Top Tours chart, the growth also stays consistent. The top 40 tours grossed a total of $4.6 billion, up from a total of $3.5 billion in 2019, a difference of 32%

The New Scorecard

This year, Billboard Boxscore created a new chart to rank tours by number of tickets sold, not just revenue, although that information had already been included. And although promoters were concerned earlier in 2022 that touring market oversaturation would mean concerts drew fewer fans, the chart actually shows the opposite — major concerts attracted larger audiences without cannibalizing other shows. In 2022, a combined 17.1 million people saw the top 10 attended tours, up 21% from a combined 2019 attendance of 14.1 million. This year also marked the first time that 19 of the top 20 attended tours drew over 900,000 fans.

The top 10 tours also represent one of the youngest lists in recent years, with an average headliner age of 49.3, as opposed to 51.2 in 2019 and 54.6 in 2021. The oldest act was The Rolling Stones — Mick Jagger and Keith Richards will both be 79 by the end of the year, and Ron Wood is 75. The youngest acts were Harry Styles and Bad Bunny, both of whom turned 28 this year.

As in years past, Live Nation dominated the business, exclusively promoting half of the top 20 — which grossed a combined $1.5 billion — as well as Bad Bunny’s stadium shows, in collaboration with Cárdenas Marketing Network, and some shows for My Chemical Romance and Paul McCartney . AEG Presents follows with a handful of global tours, including Elton John , that combined accounted for $843 million. CMN powered Bad Bunny at No. 1 and Daddy Yankee at No. 13, while Mercury Concerts led the Latin American dates for Guns N’ Roses . Sheeran, at No. 3, was promoted by a mix of buyers throughout Europe.

On the agency front, the leader is Creative Artists Agency, with eight acts in the top 20: Styles, Red Hot Chili Peppers , The Weeknd , Lady Gaga , the Eagles , Dua Lipa (WME reps her in Europe), Justin Bieber and My Chemical Romance. Wasserman Music had four clients in the top 20 — Sheeran, Coldplay , Kenny Chesney and Billie Eilish — while UTA had two: Bad Bunny and Guns N’ Roses.

Three of the top tours — John, McCartney and The Rolling Stones — have global touring deals with AEG but don’t have a traditional booking agency deal. WME had only one artist in the top 20 with Daddy Yankee. So did the Neal Agency, started in February by Austin Neal, son of longtime WME agent Kevin Neal. Austin formed the agency to represent Morgan Wallen , who took a hiatus from touring after his use of a racial slur was caught on video in 2021. Wallen grossed $128 million in 2022 from 66 shows.

The Most Anticipated Tours Of 2022

UPROXX Music

While we got a taste of it in the latter half of 2021 , it’s now been several years since there was a normal touring year. And though 2022’s touring schedule is hardly set in stone for most musicians, it should see many artists doing their best to provide live entertainment to fans across the country. From stadium tours to clubs, these are just some of the artists we’re most excited to see, with more to be announced as the year goes by. Check out the most anticipated tours of 2022 below.

Bad Bunny 2021 P FKN R concert

Not only was Bad Bunny 2021’s most streamed artist in the world on Spotify , but the Puerto Rican star’s 2022 El Último Tour Del Mundo (translation: The Last Tour on Earth) smashed a number of sales records as soon as it was announced. When the pre-sale for the tour began in April, over 480,000 tickets were sold in less than a week. On April 15th alone, he sold more tickets on a single day than any tour since Jay-Z and Beyoncé in 2018. All stats and trivia aside, the reggaeton rapper is one of the biggest acts in the world and his on-stage persona reflects that. Look no further than the hyper-futurism of his performance on “Lo Siento BB:/” with Tainy and Julietta Venegas at the AMAs.

With their fifth album coming soon, 2022 is shaping up to be the year of Big Thief. The band’s hotly-anticipated, impressively massive 20-song effort Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe In You is out in February, and they have quite a slate of tour dates on the books in support. Starting in late January, the quartet will bring their expanding, experimental Americana sound to life on a run that’s equally as ambitious as their new album, spanning nearly six months (with some breaks) and hitting cities across Europe and the US.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Bon Iver (@boniver)

Bon Iver put on some concerts last year to celebrate the tenth anniversary of Bon Iver, Bon Iver , but if you missed out on those, Justin Vernon and company are hitting the road this year . During the first half of 2022, they’ll travel across North America, then closer to the end of the year, fans in Europe and the UK will get the chance to see the show, too. How great can you expect it to be? Well, if you ask Uproxx’s Philip Cosores, he’ll tell you that Bon Iver “ might be the best live band in the world right now .”

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Claire Cottrill (@clairo)

After finding success within the bedroom pop genre on her 2019 debut album Immunity , Clairo made a decisive pivot to mesmerizing piano ballads inspired by iconic ’70s songwriters like Joni Mitchell on her 2021 album Sling . The shift in sound is thanks to Clairo’s new role as caretaker for her adorable dog Joanie (also inspired by Mitchell), which made her fantasize a life of rural domesticity. But her new direction of music also means she’ll take on a whole new stage presence for her 2022 tour. Bringing along breakout UK songwriter Arlo Parks as an opener, Clairo is set to embark on two-month US tour which kicks off in mid-February in Charlotte, North Carolina and comes to a close in April with a tour stop in Atlanta.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Coldplay (@coldplay)

When it came time to promote Everyday Life in 2019, Coldplay didn’t tour and vowed not to again until they made great strides in turning their global treks into more environmentally friendly affairs. Well, it appears they’ve made some progress, as they are indeed set to tour in support of 2021’s Music Of The Spheres between March and August after spending “two years consulting with environmental experts to make this tour as sustainable as possible, and, just as importantly, to harness the tour’s potential to push things forward.”

Cordae’s got some mighty big shoes to fill in 2022 — his own. After scoring two Grammy nominations with his debut album, The Lost Boy , the Maryland rapper is gearing up to release its long-awaited follow-up From A Bird’s Eye View . That means a tour to support the new project , which kicks off in February at the Dallas House Of Blues. Given his focus on demonstrating a couple of years’ worth of artistic growth on that album, it makes sense to expect some similar evolution in his live show, which was already a polished, must-see package.

doja-cat-grid.jpeg

Doja Cat’s 2020 was sensational, but it came with an asterisk: A global pandemic shut down her ability to tour with the songs that blew her up on the national stage , leaving her frustrated by a succession of seemingly empty televised performances of her No. 1 hit “ Say So .” While she said that she was worn down from being overworked doing everything but music, good news is on the horizon, as 2022 will see the return of live shows and the opportunity to finally perform her Planet Her hits for an appreciative, live audience. – A.W.

drake-grid.jpeg

So, Drake’s set on Kanye’s Free Larry Hoover concert in LA was a little disappointing, but only in the context of his co-headliner reviving all of his own hits as a sort of mea culpa for the last five years of bluster and nonsense. Drake, who opted to play solely Certified Lover Boy singles — aside from a quick hit of “God’s Plan” from Scorpion — wound up giving something like a preview or dry run of what a Certified Lover Boy tour might look like. He hasn’t announced one yet but given his gift for recalibration in light of Twitter’s responses to his work , it appears probable he’ll be incorporating those critiques for whenever he actually does. – A.W.

@DUALIPA on Future Nostalgia Tour in UK & Europe, US, Australia & NZ, and Latin America in this year! Where do you see Dua on the stage? 👀 pic.twitter.com/AfplUnBG38 — Future Nostalgia Tour (@dualipafntour) January 3, 2022

Dua Lipa’s shimmering disco-pop album Future Nostalgia was written to be heard in nightclubs everywhere, but that didn’t quite go according to plan thanks to the pandemic. Now armed with several top-charting singles , a new album of revved-up remixes , and a number of showstopping Future Nostalgia livestream performances, Lipa is gearing up to bring her 2020 album to stages across the world in 2022. Bringing along Megan Thee Stallion and Caroline Polachek to set the tone for her concerts as openers, Lipa is plotting a two-month US tour starting in Miami in early February and closing out in Seattle in March.

Haim’s stellar album Women In Music Pt. III may have been released in 2020, but the sister trio are just now gearing up to embark on their supporting tour thanks to years of unpredictability in the live music industry. If Haim’s revved up 2021 Grammy performance was any indication, the band’s WIMPIII tour will be well worth the wait. While Haim have already played a handful of festivals this past year, their official tour kicks off in April in Las Vegas before coming to a close in late July in San Diego.

Jack White has been busy. The former White Stripe has two new albums slated for release in 2022 — Fear Of The Dawn is due April 8 and then Entering Heaven Alive drops a few months later, on July 22 — and he’s wasting no time getting on the road. The cleverly-titled “Supply Chain Issues Tour” kicks off on Fear Of The Dawn ‘s release day in White’s hometown of Detroit and hits large theaters and arenas across the US and Europe through late August. Just don’t expect any cell phone footage from these shows, because your phone’s getting locked up!

Jazmine Sullivan

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Jazmine Sullivan (@jazminesullivan)

Jazmine Sullivan began 2021 with her Heaux Tales EP, her first body of work in almost six years. Its 11 tracks and guest appearances from Ari Lennox , HER , and Anderson .Paak amounted to a project that R&B lovers praised and carried close to their hearts for the rest of the year. Sullivan received awards, love, and more as a result of Heaux Tales , and in response, she’s heading out on the road in 2022 for a tour in support of the project. The Heaux Tales tour begins in mid-February with Sullivan performing in a number of major cities across North America for a total of 26 shows.

Justin Bieber

Fans of Justin Bieber are in for quite the treat this year. After two failed attempts to hold a tour for his fifth album Changes , and the eventual release of his sixth full-length effort Justice , Bieber will hit the road for a massive world tour in 2022. It marks his first tour since 2016’s Purpose World Tour. Altogether, the Justice World Tour is comprised of 105 shows in North and South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, and Oceania while Jaden, ¿Téo?, Eddie Benjamin, and Harry Hudson will serve as opening acts.

Kacey Musgraves

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Kacey Musgraves (@spaceykacey)

A few months after releasing her 2021 standout Star-Crossed , the ( maybe-not-so-country ) star is just days away from getting to tour behind it . Her trek kicks off in January and runs for about a month (so far), hitting major markets like LA, New York, and Nashville along the way. If seeing just Musgraves perform somehow isn’t exciting enough of a prospect, she’s bringing a tremendous pair of openers, King Princess and Muna, along for the ride.

The Killers

View this post on Instagram A post shared by The Killers (@thekillers)

Since The Killers couldn’t tour in support of 2020’s Imploding The Mirage , they went ahead and made another album, Pressure Machine , instead. That one will get a tour, as the band is set to hit the road in the latter half of 2022, hitting North America this summer and fall, between August and October. For a preview of what those shows might look like (or at least a reminder of what a force the band is live), revisit their Tonight Show performances of “Dying Breed” and “When You Were Young” from a few months ago.

Like many of her peers who also saw their public profile rise drastically in 2020, Latto found herself hamstrung by her inability to get out into the world and play her Queen Of Da Souf records live. The Uproxx cover artist had a succession of fan-favorite singles over the past two years, but the corona happened. It turned out to be a blessing in disguise, though, affording her enough off time to effect her name change , and with her headlining set on the Monster Energy Outbreak Tour , she’ll be able to test the waters without assuming as much of the risk.

Little Simz

https://www.instagram.com/p/CU-f95ooHAI/

Little Simz could be currently in the midst of a one-woman British Invasion thanks to her Best of 2021 album Sometimes I Might Be Introvert — the only thing missing is a North American tour . While she almost certainly won’t draw the levels of mass hysteria implied by that prediction, she will have a chance to reinforce her grip on Stateside pop culture, which could ensure that when she returns for a follow-up to SIMBI , there’ll be much more well-deserved fanfare.

lorde-feat.jpg

Lorde may be one of today’s biggest pop stars, but she only emerges into the public eye when she’s releasing new music. That’s why fans were overjoyed Lorde officially began her Solar Power era last year, which included the announcement of a massive 2022 tour. Though actually securing tickets to her 58-date 2022 world tour before it sold out was difficult to say the least , those who are able to attend the singer’s tour are in for a treat. Bringing along openers like Remi Wolf and Marlon Williams, Lorde will kick off her tour by playing shows through major cities in the US starting February 26 before heading over to Europe in May and returning to her New Zealand homeland in 2023.

My Chemical Romance

View this post on Instagram A post shared by My Chemical Romance (@mychemicalromance)

My Chemical Romance played exactly one show on their sold-out reunion tour all the way back in December of 2019, seemingly eons before the world shut down. Their return to the stage was originally scheduled for Riot Fest 2021, but the band ultimately pushed their headlining appearance back one year during a spike in COVID cases last summer. Now, finally, all of the dates have been rescheduled and the band is set to hit the road in the UK and Europe in May of 2022 before returning to the United States next summer. Fingers crossed it actually sticks this time.

Olivia Rodrigo

In 2021, Olivia Rodrigo went from Disney channel lead to certified pop star. She took the world by storm, earned several Grammy nominations , various awards, and even the chance to meet with President Biden without ever having gone on tour. But that’s all about to change this year as the singer is set to embark on her first-ever US and European tour in support of her smash-hit album Sour . Rodrigo’s ( already sold-out ) 47-date tour kicks off in San Francisco in April before heading to Europe in June and coming to a close in London in July.

There’s a generation of indie rock fans that hasn’t had the opportunity to see Pavement live, as the legendary group last toured in 2010. Now, though, Stephen Malkmus, Scott “Spiral Stairs” Kannberg, and the rest have a reunion tour on the docket for 2022. The North American leg of the tour kicks off in September, and while that’s a few months away, that wait is nothing compared to the past 12 years fans have spent hoping that this day would actually come.

Rage Against The Machine / Run The Jewels

One of the most anticipated runs of 2020, “ The Public Service Announcement Tour ” was set to feature the reunion of Rage Against The Machine — the modern era’s most revolutionary rock band — with support from Run The Jewels — the most outspoken rap duo on the scene. But, just like everything else, we had to wait an additional two years to see Rage Against The Machine return to the stage this spring for their oft-rumored reunion tour. The new set of dates kick off in Texas in March and features a number of North American stops before wrapping up with a week of shows at Madison Square Garden in August.

Back in 2018, we got to see some of the most promising artists in indie rock — Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers, and Lucy Dacus — team up for the Boygenius tour. Now, Baker is set to team up with more indie rock royalty on “ The Wild Hearts Tour ,” which will find her sharing the stage with Sharon Van Etten and Angel Olsen. The monthlong, mostly outdoor jaunt kicks off in July in Virginia and treks across the entire continental US before wrapping in New York City at the Central Park Summerstage in late August.

Two years after her beloved second album Ugh, Those Feels Again , Snoh Aalegra returned to the summer of 2021 with her third project Temporary Highs In The Violet Skies . With help from Tyler The Creator, Pharrell Williams, and James Fauntleroy, Snoh Aalegra created a project that was sonically different when compared to her first two albums. This will make for a unique live show experience, at least on her terms, that fans will see when she hits the road for the Temporary Highs Tour later this year. Snoh will perform at 21 shows across North America with British singer Ama Lou serving as her opening act for the string of concerts.

Tyler The Creator

Call Me If You Get Lost is officially one of the biggest albums of the year, and Tyler’s tour supporting it will almost certainly be one of the year’s must-sees. He’s already proven to be one of the top performers in hip-hop, giving aesthetic overhauls to his looks between album cycles and incorporating those changes into his innovative, thoughtful live shows. And, since he’s also bringing along fellow 2021 standout Vince Staples and the bafflingly intriguing Teezo Touchdown , as well as Kali Uchis , it’ll be worth catching his concerts from beginning to end.

The War On Drugs’ latest effort, I Don’t Live Here Anymore , was one of 2021’s best albums , putting on full display the band’s power and promise as they elevate to festival and arena headlining status. Kicking off in January, the group’s hefty tour takes them through some of the most prestigious theaters in the continental United States and Europe. Good things come to those who wait. It’s a saying that fans of The Weeknd are certainly feeling days into 2021. The singer just released his sixth album Dawn FM , now giving his supporters not one, but two albums worth of music to see The Weeknd perform live. This summer, The Weeknd will take over stadiums all over the country for the After Hours Til Dawn world tour. It will commence after multiple attempts, many hindered by the COVID-19 pandemic, from The Weeknd to tour in support of his 2020 album After Hours . Two years after that album’s release, attendees will be able to experience what will surely be an amazing show curated by the singer himself in support of his most recent bodies of work.

Stay tuned for the full dates for the After Hours Til Dawn world tour. – W.O.

Yves Tumor Outside Lands 2021

In 2020, Yves Tumor’s fourth album Heaven To A Tortured Mind introduced the artist to a wider audience, opening the door to critical acclaim and a breakout year for the experimental musician. Tumor was able to capitalize on that buzz in 2021 with the EP The Asymptotical World , but thanks to various variants, wasn’t able to organize a full global tour behind either release until very recently when they announced a nearly 50-city world tour encompassing Europe, the UK, and United States. –

No.10 – Bad Bunny

Leading the wave of success by Latin artists is Bad Bunny with his World’s Hottest Tour which became one of the highest-grossing tours ever put on by a Latin artist. This marks the Puerto Rican rapper’s fourth tour since entering the Latin music scene. Kicking off in August 2022, the World’s Hottest tour included 43 shows across Latin America and the United States in four months. The setlist was composed of songs from Bad Bunny’s album, Un Verano Sin Ti , as well as hit singles like “Vuelve,” “Dakiti” and “Me Porto Bonito.”

No. 9 – Motley Crue & Def Leppard

Rock and heavy metal music giants Motley Crue and Def Leppard embarked on their Stadium Tour this year and were joined by Joan Jett & The Blackhearts and Poison. The 36-show tour kicked off in June and quickly sold more than one million tickets. With hits like “Pour Some Sugar on Me” and “Rock of Ages” to “Kickstart My Heart” and “Wild Side,” the Stadium Tour was so successful and well-received that another tour has been planned for 2023 with Alice Cooper joining the lineup.

Fans rocked out to songs like “Welcome to the Jungle,” “Cherrybomb,” and more when Poison and Joan Jett & the Blackhearts opened the show for these mega groups. Since their start in the ‘80s, Motley Crue and Def Leppard have sold more than 100 million albums worldwide. All the groups that took part in the Stadium Tour put together an exciting and memorable experience for the crowds.

No. 8 – Rod Wave

This 23-year-old rapper embarked on his first tour in 2022, helping to promote his new certified gold album, Beautiful Minds . The Beautiful Minds Tour featured songs like “By Your Side”, “Street Runner” and “Cold December.” Rod Wave’s success in the rap industry began after his 2019 song “Heart of Ice” went viral on social media platforms like TikTok and YouTube. The song would go on to peak at No. 25 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. His debut album, Ghetto Gospel (2019) was certified platinum by the RIAA. Rod Wave’s popularity increased even more after being nominated for Top New Artist at the 2021 Billboard Music Awards.

No. 7 – New Edition

New Edition’s Culture Tour was nominated as one of the Top R&B Tours in the country by Pollstar . Accompanied by artists Charlie Wilson and Jodeci, New Edition’s Culture Tour re-ignited the public’s love and nostalgia for R&B groups. This U.S. tour would be the group’s first venture since 2016.

After rocketing in popularity in the ‘80s and onward, New Edition brought back hits like “Candy Girl,” “Mr. Telephone Man” and “If It Isn’t Love” to wow their fans. The R&B group was inducted into the Black Music & Entertainment Walk of Fame in 2022 and had previously received nominations and awards from the American Music Awards, Soul Train Awards, and BET. You can also catch New Edition live in the future on their Legacy Tour in 2023.

No. 6 – Journey with TOTO

Journey’s Freedom Tour supports the rock band’s new album with the same name. Freedom is Journey’s first album in more than a decade since Eclipse debuted in 2011. Freedom ranked No. 9 on Billboard US Independent Albums charts, adding to the band’s success. Not long after the 2022 tour announcement, demand drove the group to add 2023 dates to the Freedom Tour schedule. With songs like “Don’t Stop Believin’,” “Don’t Give Up On Us” and “Any Way You Want It,” Journey put on amazing performances at every stop along the way. Serving as the opening act for one of the world’s best-selling bands of all time was TOTO . With fan favorites like “Africa” and “Rosanna” TOTO the rock band headed by Steve Lukather and Joseph Williams covering guitar and vocals. TOTO has withstood the test of time and served as a benchmark of fame and success that many music groups aspire to reach.

Daddy Yankee, Karol G and Neal Schon

No. 5 – Elton John

The Rocketman took fans on a final adventure with his Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour, the name referencing Elton John’s 1973 album, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road . The world tour began in September 2018 at the PPL Center in Allentown, Pa. Due to unforeseen circumstances, the tour was postponed after its 2020 Sydney show before picking back up on January 19, 2022, at New Orleans’ Smoothie King Center . With more than 300 planned concerts, the tour was named the Top Rock Tour at the Billboard Music Awards. Having sold more than five million tickets, the Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour is ranked as the second highest-grossing tour of all time, with the number one slot filled by Ed Sheeran ’s Divide tour.  From “Tiny Dancer” to “Bennie and the Jets” to “I’m Still Standing,” the multi-Grammy Award-winning star dressed in his infamous eye-catching costumes never failed to deliver his passion for performing to audiences. The Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour will conclude on July 8, 2023, in Stockholm, Sweden, with what is sure to be a glamorous show.

No. 4 – Karol G

This rising Colombian star announced her $trip Love Tour in 2022. With more than 80 shows scheduled over the course of three years, Karol G’s tour thrilled her fans, especially when performing hits like “Mi Cama,” “Tusa,” “El Makinon” and “Odisea.” The $trip Love Tour will end on March 12, 2023, in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Karol G rose to fame following the breakthrough collaboration on “Ahora Me Llama” with Bad Bunny in 2017. Since then the Latin trap singer has won 2 Latin Grammy awards, 2 Billboard Music Awards and an AMA Award. Karol G’s latest album, KG0516 (2021), won Top Latin Album and was nominated for Best Musica Urbana Album at the 2022 Grammy Awards.

No. 3 – Grupo Firme

This Mexican banda group did not find mainstream success until they released hits like the 2020 single “Pídeme, El Roto and Juro Por Dios.” 2022 marked the year that Grupo Firme embarked on its first arena tour and performed in major cities throughout the United States and Mexico. The “Enfiestados y Amanecidos” Arena tour stunned crowds with the vibrancy and passion of Banda and mariachi music along with Folklorico dancers weaving through band members on stage. Arenas were filled with sounds of popular hits like “Ya Supérame (En Vivo),” “El Tóxico” and “En Tu Perra Vida.”

Grupo Firme would earn a nomination for the Premios Juventud, an award show for Spanish-speaking celebrities. Their newest album, Nos Divertimos Lo Grando Lo Imposible , won Grupo Firme its first Latin Grammy for Best Banda Album in November 2022.

No. 2 – Garth Brooks

From his humble beginnings playing local clubs in Oklahoma to selling out stadium concerts, Garth Brooks has certainly made his mark in the music industry. His Stadium Tour lasted more than three years, with nearly 95,000 dedicated Garth Brooks fans at each stop. With hits like “Much Too Young (To Feel This Damn Old),” “The Dance,” “If Tomorrow Never Comes” and more, the tour proved to be an amazing spectacle complete with flashing lights and pyrotechnics.

The sales for The Stadium Tour rivaled that of The Eagles , The Rolling Stones, and The Grateful Dead as one of the most successful tours of all time. This Country Music Hall of Fame inductee is known for elevating his sound with elements of rock, producing platinum records, and selling out concerts worldwide.

Don’t fret if you missed seeing this icon on tour. Garth Brooks will be holding a 2023 Las Vegas residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace starting May 18.

No. 1 – Daddy Yankee

Daddy Yankee, aka the King of Reggaeton, will complete his farewell tour after more than 30 years in the music industry. The Puerto Rican rapper established the genre of reggaeton and a legacy to inspire future reggaeton artists. La Ultima Vuelta World Tour supported Daddy Yankee’s final album, Legendaddy (2022). With more than 80 scheduled shows, this tour brought Latin and reggaeton fans on a journey down memory lane with hits like “Gasolina” and “Ella Me Levanto,” while newer songs like “Con Calma” hyped up the crowd. La Ultima Vuelta World Tour was nominated for the Latin Tour of the Year at the 34th Pollstar Awards Show. Emery

How does Unai Emery ensure Aston Villa remain successful this season?

In a remarkable 23/24 season, Aston Villa qualified for the Champions League and went deep into the knockout stages of the Europa Conference League.

Though key signings like Pau Torres and Moussa Diaby were made, Unai Emery’s impact on improving players already at Villa - such as John McGinn and Ollie Watkins - have enhanced the squad.

His successful time in the West Midlands is largely due to his ability to better those already within the group.

Emery took charge in October 2022 after Steven Gerrard’s disastrous reign left them close to the relegation zone with 12 games played. They not only survived but thrived, guiding them to 7th that season.

Since his arrival, the only teams to collect more points are Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool.

The turnaround has been spectacular and is the blueprint for teams looking to break into the top-six powered by a maverick, meticulous manager.

Famous for his record in cup competitions, Emery has won the Europa League four times and emphasised the importance of wanting to go far in the Champions League: "I don't want to play in the Champions League get there and not be competitive. We will be competitive."

The former Villarreal manager also mentioned: "We’re not contenders to be in the top four. There are seven teams who are contenders more than us."

Unai Emery Villa

Perhaps Emery was lowering expectations early into the season.

Still, he's aware of the strenuous impact the Champions League will have on Villa's schedule as they attempt to balance being in Europe’s top competition for the first time since 1982.

As the Emery revolution at Villa Park rumbles on, the question now is not about him bringing success to the club, but whether he can maintain the lofty standards he’s now set.

All in on Emery

In his last three jobs before taking charge of Aston Villa, Emery only had more than one full season at one of them: Villarreal.

Though you can certainly make a case to say this Villa side is better, in seasons where they won the Europa League and reached the semi-finals of the Champions League the LaLiga form suffered, finishing 7th twice.

Unlike the jobs he’s had in recent years, Emery is being tasked with creating a club that consistently competes in the Europe's elite competitions for the long-term rather than just being brilliant in cup competitions.

Villa’s owners have moved heaven and earth to forge a footballing structure that revolves around Emery.

A new contract signed in April of last season granted the manager more autonomy, meaning he was able to bring the coaches and analysts he wanted across to Birmingham.

Damian Vidagany, who Emery has known for 16 years since his time at Valencia, has now transformed from assistant to director of football working with Monchi.

Villa believe they have an elite coach under Emery and have given him what he wants to build on the success he has brought.

Dealing with PSR

Villa reported a loss of £119 million after tax in the year ending in May 2023, when PSR rules state that clubs are only allowed a loss of £105 million.

Yet the structure of the club has shrewdly navigated the PSR danger while also strengthening the team.

Douglas Luiz

Douglas Luiz was deemed the necessary big name that had to depart to balance the books, leaving for £42m to Juventus with Samuel Ilinj Junior and Enzo Barrenechea heading the other way.

Youth prospects Tim Iroegbunam and Omari Kellyman were both sold to Everton and Chelsea for a total of £28m, whilst Moussa Diaby heralded as a marquee signing last summer joined Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad.

Bold decisions to lose key members of the team but decisions that were necessary in order for Villa to begin a new cycle of PSR.

The coveted signing of Amadou Onana for £50m was a statement that Villa are here to stay, while they've also acquired the services of a rejuvenated Ross Barkley for £5m from Luton.

The adaptable tactics

How Emery may manage the season is in a similar vein to the flexible tactics we saw previously to manage the workload on players and adapt to different opponents.

In the Champions League, we may see Villa revert to their six at the back when needing to stay compact away from home.

At Villa Park they’re likely to opt for their inventive high line which catches opponents out frequently, leading them to believe they have found space in behind Villa’s defence.

1a

Reverting to a back-six and staying compact will allow Villa to see games out and hit teams on the break in the dog days of the season when players suffer from fatigue.

Emery already had the experience last season of managing a squad that had to deal with playing on Thursdays and at the weekend.

Similarly, in-possession Villa are multi-faceted in attack. They can threaten teams by going direct to Watkins or Bailey in behind when a team presses them up top.

1c

However, they also use their midfielders, who start on paper as ‘wingers’ but confuse the opposition by dropping in from attack to combine with others in the build-up while another pushes up to create a 4v4 and stretch defences.

In the below example, Youri Tielemans is dropping while McGinn pushes up.

1e

Villa's multi-functionality will help navigate their biggest season yet against different opposition and circumstances.

The next step for them is to carry on and continue their journey to become a mainstay in the upper echelons of club football after initial success.

This is a feat few have managed, as many have a brilliant solitary season and fall apart thereafter.

Villa will be hoping that by heavily buying into Emery and catering to his needs, it will bring success for the foreseeable future.
