Did you know that this is the largest lake in Switzerland that is entirely Swiss? That’s just one of many reasons why you should enjoy a cruise on this wonderful lake! Another reason is that this is free for most tourists, so it’s one of the best things to do in town if you’re on a tighter budget.

Neuchatel Centre Dürrenmatt

The Neuchatel Botanic Garden is one of the top attractions in town that you can visit for free. The lovely green space is easily accessible by the Plan funicular and it’s just a 15-minute walk outside the old town.

This is a pretty big botanical garden with numerous plants, greenhouses, a souvenir shop, and even a cafe. There’s also a museum on the grounds – Centre Dürrenmatt boasts a collection of paintings by Friedrich Dürrenmatt and it is situated inside the author’s former home.

The collection of plants in the botanical garden is certainly interesting to observe, but it’s nothing wildly impressive. It’s particularly interesting for people who are into biology because medicinal plants account for a good chunk of the collection, and you can learn about all their different uses.

Theatre du Passage

Enjoy live performance arts at Theatre du Passage and get a glimpse of the cultural attractions popular in Neuchatel. The town boasts lots of cultural attractions, including museums, art galleries, and performance venues.

Even if you don’t want to sit through an actual play or concert, it’s worth it to do a quick tour of the theater building. Tours in English are available and they will tell you a lot about the history of the space and the impact it has on the performing arts scene in Neuchatel.

If you genuinely enjoy performing arts, you will absolutely love this theater. It hosts plays, operas, comedy events, concerts, and a variety of other events, so there’s always something interesting going on at Theatre du Passage.

Neuchatel Old Town

Neuchatel’s old town is definitely the highlight of the city. Boasting varied medieval architecture and multiple historical sites within walking distance of one another, the car-free old town of Neuchatel is truly a wonderful gem worth discovering.

With narrow alleys, steep stairways, and beautiful architecture, the old town of Neuchatel is both attractive and charming. You could walk around its alleys for hours, exploring all the little shops and locales that serve traditional Swiss delicacies.

Don’t forget to pop inside the occasional art gallery – this lovely town is famous for its numerous museums and art galleries, which are perfect for all art lovers.

La Chaux-de-Fonds

La Chaux-de-Fonds

La Chaux-de-Fonds is a town north of Neuchatel, which is easily accessible by public transport. It’s just a 30-minute train ride from the lakeshore town, so you can easily visit it on a day trip from Neuchatel.

The city is known for its many museums, landmarks, statues, and fountains, most of which you can easily explore during your visit. The International Museum of Horology is one of the most popular in town – it’s an underground museum dedicated to the Swiss tradition of watchmaking, and it’s definitely one of the best things to do in town.

Go on a walk around the old town of La Chaux-de-Fonds, explore the countless parks and fountains, and discover why the town is an important Art Noveau center.

Neuchatel Art & History Museum

Neuchatel Art & History Museum

The Neuchatel Art & History Museum is the most popular museum in Neuchatel and an absolute must if you really want to get to know this town. It is situated in the palace of fine arts, and the building alone is a stunning sight worth checking out.

This museum features four thematically separate collections, so you get to learn quite a bit while touring it. One collection introduces visitors to the local history of Neuchatel, and it’s perfect for learning more about this fabulous town.

The other three collections put art into focus, and they include everything from exquisite Monet paintings to the Jaquet-Droz automata. It’s worth noting that the Neuchatel Art & History Museum is free for visitors with the Neuchatel tourist card, so you can discover its magnificent collections without spending a dime!

Creux du Van

Creux du Van

Creux du Van is a fascinating natural attraction on the border between Neuchatel and Vaud cantons. It’s a crater-like rock formation in the midst of a natural preserve, with stunning views all around it. Creux du Van is easily accessible by hiking trails, which boast beautiful scenery and magnificent panoramic views.

The easiest way of reaching the hiking area from Neuchatel is by car. It’s only about a 30-minute ride to the nature preserve, but parking might be tricky because there’s limited space. It’s also possible to travel by train – you can get to Noiraigue in about 20 minutes from Neuchatel, and then you can hike or ride an electric bike to the imposing rock formation.

Outdoor lovers and adventurers should plan to visit this site of natural beauty . It’s truly an astonishing place with plenty to see and admire, and it might just be the highlight of your trip to Neuchatel.

Creux du Van: Exploring Switzerland’s Grand Canyon

Neuchatel castle and collegiate church.

Neuchatel Castle

The Neuchatel Castle is easily one of the most recognizable attractions in town. This historical site towers over Neuchatel city, offering beautiful panoramic vistas to anyone who dares to visit and climb its towers.

The hilltop castle was constructed in the 11th century, and it has had many functions over the centuries. Its towers were used as both dungeons and residential towers at certain points in time, but nowadays they’re just tourist attractions popular with people who want to experience sweeping panoramas of the Neuchatel skyline.

The castle is open for tours from April to September and entrance is free of charge. Visitors can also stop by the Collegiate Church, which is right next to the Neuchatel castle. Both attractions are easily accessible by a short walk from the old town, just keep in mind that you’re walking uphill for the majority of that walk.

Gor de Vauseyon

Gor de Vauseyon is a historical landmark in Neuchatel where you can see remnants of a 17th-century water mill. Get a glimpse of what life was like during the pre-industrial era while admiring a site of spectacular natural beauty. There’s plenty to love about this wonderful attraction in Neuchatel!

Perhaps the best thing about this landmark is that it’s a natural oasis situated in the urban area of Neuchatel. You don’t have to drive for hours or hike for miles to reach the gorges – you can just get on the 101 bus in the old town and get there in about 10 minutes.

Laténium Park and Museum of Archeology

Laténium Park and Museum of Archeology

Laténium Park and Museum of Archeology is the largest archaeological museum in the entire country. It’s situated in Hauterive, which is a suburb of Neuchatel. You can get there by bus in about 20 minutes from Neuchatel’s old town, and about an hour if you decide to walk instead of taking public transport.

This complex boasts a large park and a museum building, both of which were constructed on former excavation areas. The archaeological sites upon which the complex was built date to the Upper Paleolithic, Bronze Age, and Neolithic, so there’s truly plenty of history to be discovered here.

If you are genuinely interested in archeology, this excellent museum might just be the highlight of your trip. The collections at Laténium Park are varied, and they include everything from reconstitutions of ancient devices to modern artworks. Some of the highlights of this museum are the Bevaix boat, the remains of a Magdalenian hunting camp, and a reconstitution of a Celtic bridge, among other things.

Neuchâtel: a solo traveler’s guide for the curious

' src=

On a recent weekend, I’ve explored the thousand-year-old city of Neuchâtel, situated on Switzerland’s largest lake.

The town’s name ironically translates to “new castle” in English, but Neuchâtel’s old town serves as a well-preserved collection of history. Its castle and a church even link all the way back to the 12th century!

neuchatel city tour

Before my stop at Neuchâtel, my mind was spinning with train times and navigation logistics. Like many solo travelers, I find a sense of stability and control when I know how to get to “the next big thing” in a country that is vastly unfamiliar to me.

But here, I was allowed to ease into the breezy, Mediterranean- esque vibe of the city. The still waters along the lake promenade invited me to sit and journal for a while. And for a history nerd like myself, it was pleasant to read up about Neuchâtel’s rich medieval history as I walked through the old town by myself.

Neuchâtel is an absolute dream for the introverted, curious solo traveler in need of a break from all the hustle and bustle. Here’s how I explored the city on my own:

Neuchâtel tourism in the belle epoque era.

I’m a big fan of guided tours, but I shy away from them when I’m traveling alone. I really can’t imagine myself enjoying a group tour surrounded by families and couples as I stand idly on the sidelines.

neuchatel city tour

Luckily for me, I found a self-guided walking tour that encourages you to wander through the city at your own pace and pick up some historical knowledge along the way. Neuchâtel à la Belle Epoque is a roughly two-hour tour centered around life in Neuchâtel during the golden years.

First off, a quick history lesson: from 1896 to 1914, the Belle Epoque was an era marked by Europe’s exponential economic growth and technological advances. Transportation services, electricity, and running water began to spread beyond wealthy circles in the industrial revolution, and society began to reshape itself around the modern commodities we use today.

Neuchâtel Solo Traveler Guide

This immersive walking tour took me to 22 essential treasures of the old town and surrounding area, complete with free chocolate and absinthe tastings. You also receive a little badge that unlocks hidden experiences. It makes this tour a lot more hands-on than your typical walk, stop, listen, repeat experience.

Note: I suggest taking this self-guided tour of Neuchâtel on a Saturday rather than a Sunday, as the absinthe and chocolate shops were closed when I arrived.

Unfortunately, I couldn’t try absinthe myself, but I did learn plenty about the mystical green fairy drink. Each absinthe distillery has its own secret technique, some even with recipes that date back to the drink’s invention in the 18th century.

Back then, some batches contained high levels of thujone, a substance known to cause brain damage. The drink was banned entirely until 2005, but distilleries continued to produce absinthe in secret. Its prohibition is why the distilled liquor is so closely tied to the Val de Travers region.

For the super-curious, there are some nearby absinthe distilleries you can also visit while in the region to learn more.

Old town explorations

Self-guided tour pamphlet in hand or not, there are still some noteworthy sites to see on your own. Here are a few of my favorite spots I ran into:

La Rue du Neubourg

Welcome to the free borough of Neubourg! This district was designated to be a communal gathering area since the 1920s. As one of Neuchâtel’s oldest streets, the colorful La Rue du Neubourg also brings the community together. Neighborhood artists give the street a new painted design every two years.

It’s also a great spot for Instagram photos. I shamelessly tried to ask two parents to take my photo, but then one of their toddlers started crying. But here’s what it looks like:

neuchatel city tour

Jardin Anglais

Parks are always a great spot for solo travelers who want to feel like they are a part of a larger community. My book kept me in great company as I sat at Jardin Anglais’ outdoor eatery. In between pages, I watched families play giant chess in the central square, and children run around the playground.

This French-style garden is only two blocks away from the lakeshore and near the old town, so it’s accessible to anyone making their rounds in Neuchâtel.

neuchatel city tour

Croix-du-Marché

At this little market square, visitors can see the authentic Renaissance facade of the Restaurant Le Banneret , along with the Banneret fountain and the red clock on the Tour de Disesse.

neuchatel city tour

For an afternoon snack, there are plenty of restaurants and coffee shops nearby. The Neuchâtel Castle and red-stone Collegiate Church are also up the road.

Neuchâtel lake-side adventures are a must

There are many ways to enjoy the scenic Lake Neuchâtel: you could walk along the Quai Ostervald, board the Neuchâtel paddle steamer , or play and swim at Les Jeunes-Rives. Or you could do a mix of all three. They are all pretty great options to embrace Neuchâtel’s lake-side.

neuchatel city tour

Neuchâtel’s port previously functioned as a utilitarian hub for fisheries, transportation services, and export ships. But today, it’s the ideal place to enjoy coffee or a dinner with views of the Bernese Alps in the distance.

If you find yourself there in the summer months, it’s also an opportune place to find live music in the evenings.

neuchatel city tour

When the sun begins to fade, head over to the Waves Rooftop located on the top floor of Hôtel Beaulac for a large selection of drinks and fusion bites.

View of the Harbor in Neuchâtel, Switzerland

The rooftop bar’s stunning views allow a solo traveler’s mind to wander. But it also has an upscale, social vibe for those who might want to strike up a casual conversation with other tourists. Their grilled omelet skewers are vegetarian approved, too.

neuchatel city tour

Impressed by the restaurant? You may want to book yourself a room at Hôtel Beaulac a few stories below the bar. Given its prime location, very nice views of the lake, and complimentary breakfast in the morning, the Hôtel Beaulac is ideal for the traveler who wants to explore this Swiss town.

Pro-tip for travelers on a budget: always shamelessly have your fair share of complimentary hotel breakfast before you head out for the day. It’s only cost-effective...

Meet the world-famous Jaquet-Droz automata at the MahN

If you walk along the river or through the old town, you are bound to eventually run into the Musée d’art et d’historie (MahN).

neuchatel city tour

The building’s magnificent staircase showcases three paintings that represent the agricultural, intellectual, and industrial life of the Neuchâtel canton. I follow the stairs as they lead me into a lovely collection of contemporary art.

To the left of the stairs is the Jaquet-Droz automata, three doll-like automated figures comprised of the same inner workings as a clock to perform specialized tasks.

There’s a writer who can be programmed to write any message up to forty characters, letter by letter. Then there’s the draughtsman who can sketch four different drawings and occasionally blows on his paper to remove pencil dust. The third figure is a musician, a young girl who can play five tunes on an independent organ.

neuchatel city tour

First introduced to the public in 1774, the three were so impressive that they performed to spectators across major European cities in a showcase tour.

Every first Sunday of the month at 2 PM, 3 PM, and 4 PM, you can attend one-hour demonstrations of the automata. I was lucky enough to receive my own little tour, but feel free to check the museum website for information on additional viewings and private tours.

Final thoughts about Neuchâtel for solo travelers

My stay in Neuchâtel, which admittedly was less social than my time in Lucerne or Interlaken , was exactly what I needed as I approached the halfway mark of my month-long trip across Switzerland.

My Sunday strolls almost brought me back to my life in the States, where I would cross the Bay to visit the beloved, quaint Sausalito in an effort to escape from the city noise in San Francisco.

So, to my fellow lovers of art, culture, and history, indulge in the rich offerings of Neuchâtel, and don’t be afraid to unwind and reflect!

Chappell Roan poses on the red carpet.

The countdown to “HOT TO GO!” is on.

Fresh off a stint opening for Olivia Rodrigo on tour, Chappell Roan is set to strike out on her own nationwide ‘The Midwest Princess Tour’ at festivals, theaters, music halls, distilleries, islands and harbors all over North America this spring.

That includes a headlining gig at Buffalo, NY’s Outer Harbor on Friday, May 24 and an appearance at Flushing’s Governors Ball on Sunday, June 9.

As expected, demand to see the campy 26-year-old pop star live is high.

According to Roan’s Instagram , so many shows were sold out they had to upgrade to larger venues.

“I can’t believe this it’s gonna [be] so much fun omg,” she added.

There’s just one downside- it won’t be cheap to see the “Red Wine Supernova” singer live this year.

At the time of publication, the lowest price we could find on tickets was $112 before fees on Vivid Seats.

Tour de Romandie 2024 route

T he Tour de Romandie returns for six days of racing across the high alpine mountains of Switzerland from April 23-28, 2024. The WorldTour event serves as a proving ground for teams headed to the first Grand Tour of the season, the Giro d’Italia.

A total of 657.1km kilometres of racing includes 17.7km of time trialing, starting with a 2.28km prologue and then a 15.5km mid-race race against the clock. Romandie packs in 10,989 metres of elevation gain across the two time trials and four road days, including two mountaintop finishes on stages 2 and 4.

The week begins with a flat race against the clock with a 2.28km Prologue in Payerne, which sits to the east of Neuchâtel Lake in Switzerland. It is a sprint as compared to the 6.8km opening day last year. The opening section begins on Rue du Stade. The middle section of the course runs along Qui de la Broye along the Broye river and will have to make two quick 90-degree turns in a narrow, small section of Grand Rue to head to the final 1.2km with a city centre loop and then the finale back on Grand Rue for the finish.

The second day of racing is stage 1 and begins with a short circuit in Château d’Oex and sets off for a total of 165.7km. Across the first 73km is one categorised climb at Sorens, that averages 7.3% with a section at 15%. From there, riders begin finish circuits of 40.3km each around Fribourg, which is fresh territory for this host venue, which last hosted a time trial in 2021. The circuit has category 3 climbs at Arconciel (2.2 kilometres at 5.9%) and Lorette (1.1 kilometres at 10.4%), each done twice before the final loop. From the top of the climb of Lorette, which has a section reaching 20% gradient, riders will be able to see the town below. Across the final 35km, a third trip up Arconciel then leads to the final 10km for the finish in Fribourg on Boulevard Pérolles.

Stage 2 begins where the previous day ended in Fribourg with 171km on tap in a southerly direction to Salvan-Les Marécottes. The first half of the route is rolling and then it is all about just two climbs - Les Mosses (13.4km at 4.1%) with 56km to go and a summit finish to the ski station to Les Marécottes (7.8km at 7.3%). After descending Les Mosses, the riders can shake out the legs along the Rhône river to make the approach to the final climb, with pitches that reach 16%, and the first summit finish of the week.

For a second consecutive year, the ITT is slotted in the middle of the week, this one 3km shorter than 2023. The stage 3 time trial is 15.5km rolling route that makes a counter-clockwise loop on the east side of Oron. The start is on Route de la Condémine with a steady incline to the intermediate time check after passing through the town of La Rogivue with 8km to go. The course has just a pair of tight corners headed back to Oron, with a final sharp corner with 500 metres to go on Route de Palézieux to stop the clock.

Saturday is the queen stage, stage 4 , with 3,536 metres of elevation gain across 151.7km. There are five categorised climbs in all, the final one being a mountaintop finish at Leysin. The first ascent begins after the opening 35km, a long 8.9km climb across Ovrtoninaz, with an average gradient of 9.7%. Once cresting the top, the route leads back through Saillon and then follows the Rhône river north towards Martigny. The flat stretch of a little over 20km then hits a short, sharp hill at La Rasse (2km at 8.6%).

After passing through Massongex, Les Rives (9.8km at 5.7%) and Les Giettes (4km at 8.5%) are back-to-back climbs leaving 45km to the finish. The route goes back through Massongex and soon hit a section with a small 1.1km climb with a 9.5% gradient. But the final 14km averages 6% and form a wall to the finish in Leysin, which last hosted the Tour de Romandie in 2017.

Stage 5 is set in the Geneva metropolitan area with a rolling route of 150.8km that begins and ends in Vernier. From the start, the main route is a 35km circuit completed four times, with one climb in the middle. A third-category climb, Dardagny is 1.5km long and averages 4.4%. On the final lap, the peloton then heads back into Vernier, racing the 10km section of road that was used for a neutral start.

Neuchâtel Castle

The well-preserved castle of Neuchâtel, which is over 1,000 years old and from which the city gets its name, towers above the small city of Neuchâtel. From here, you have the best view for miles.

The castle, which formerly belonged to the Kingdom of Burgundy, passed through the hands of various aristocratic families and even the Prussians before coming into the possession of the Canton of Neuchâtel, when it became the seat of government. The canton’s parliament, the Grand Council, can also be found here.

The mighty castle’s towers were at times used as dungeons, but also as residential towers, and some of these date back to before 1000 AD. The richly decorated facade of the south wing is built in the Romanesque style. Next to the castle, the Romanesque-Gothic church of Notre-Dame with its cloister is well worth a visit. The castle and collegiate church form a single architectural unit. The castle is surrounded by gardens, and the forecourt offers a wonderful panoramic view of the city and lake.

The OnePass app is your ticket to the 2024 NFL draft in Detroit: What to know

neuchatel city tour

You're a Steelers fan from Pittsburgh coming in for the 2024 NFL draft in Detroit. Or a 49ers fan hopping a flight from San Francisco. Or a Dolphins fan from Miami.

Maybe you're a Michigan-made Detroit Lions fan driving in from the north, the Detroit suburbs or somewhere in the Motor City — but you know that your home's downtown won't be the same for the draft on April 25-27.

The NFL OnePass app — your ticket to all things draft from the NFL — is the official guide to the draft, with lots of information about the city. It has draft news and mock drafts, links on how to plan your trip, including lodging, things to do, metro Detroit sports bars and Detroit dining from A-Z, with links to visitdetroit.com .

Here's a tour of what this app tells us about the draft, the D and the offerings for the estimated 300,000 people coming to the big event.

How to get the NFL OnePass app

The NFL OnePass app can be downloaded in the App Store or on Google Play . Adults 18 and older are required to register for the 2024 NFL draft through the app or at nfl.com/draftaccess , and can register up to five minors to bring to the draft experience.

A quick note: There's a lot to explore on the app; by necessity, this is a partial look. It includes attractions, FAQs, transportation, maps, accessibility, security and prohibited items just to name a few. The look-see for this article took 90 minutes, so you'll want to give yourself time to explore everything so you can plan.

Once you register, you'll get emails, too. One that popped into my inbox as I wrote this was titled, "Get to know the NFL Prospects."

Let's get this snapshot tour started.

When is the 2024 NFL draft?

The 2024 NFL draft is April 25-27.

  • The first round takes place at 8 p.m. Thursday, April 25.
  • Rounds 2-3 take place starting at 7 p.m. Friday, April 26.
  • Rounds 4-7 take place starting at noon Saturday, April 27.

Where is the 2024 NFL draft?

The draft will take place in downtown Detroit, around Campus Martius Park and Hart Plaza. From Hart Plaza, you can see the Detroit River and our Canadian neighbors in Windsor.

What's the cost to attend the 2024 NFL draft?

Entry is free and you can register for entry by downloading the NFL OnePass app or at NFL.com/DraftAccess .

How do I attend the NFL Draft Experience?

To enter the 2024 NFL Draft Experience, the free fan experience with exhibits that will take place all three days at Hart Plaza, you've got to register via the NFL OnePass app. Adults (18 and older) are required to register, but also can register up to five children.

Get there early as attendance will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Hours will be noon-10 p.m. April 25-26 and 9 a.m.-6 p.m. April 27. Fans are invited to stay and watch the draft on the stage and screens until the last pick each day.

The Draft Theater adjacent to Campus Martius Park is where player selections are announced and where concerts will be held. It's for invited ticket holders. However, as seats become available, fans will have an opportunity to be selected for standing room only and other seating, depending on availability. Theater hours are approximately 5 p.m.-11 p.m. April 25-26 and noon-7 p.m. April 27.

Fans attending the Draft Experience will have sightlines to the Draft Theater from Woodward Avenue to watch the draft picks and concerts as well as screens to watch within the Draft Experience.

What about security?

Fans should be prepared to go through airport-level screening, and the NFL clear bag policy will be in effect. (You're encouraged not to bring any type of bag with you to expedite your entry.) Exceptions to the size limit of 12-by-6-by 12-inches will be made for medically necessary items.

Security around the draft site will be heightened and all items you carry will be inspected and possibly prohibited. (Friendly reminder: Prohibited items can't be accepted, stored or checked in by the NFL or Detroit police.)

Some prohibited items include firearms, knives, explosives, beach balls, footballs, chairs, drones and umbrellas.

What is permitted?

• Strollers and baby carriages, but bags and blankets must be removed, screened by X-ray and inspected.

• Small cameras and binoculars.

• Empty, reuseable water bottles for free water filling.

• Service animals and service animals in training (keep household pets and emotional support animals at home).

• Wheelchairs, power wheelchairs and three- or four-wheeled scooters for those with mobility disabilities.

What can I do or see at the NFL Draft Experience?

For the athletic:

• 40-yard dash: Race down the field against opponents and digital NFL players on a giant 40-yard-long LED wall.

• Vertical jump: Find out the differential between your reach and the flag you hit.

• Hail Mary: Throw a deep pass over defenders into a drop-in net.

For the not-so-athletic (everyone, actually):

• Free autographs from current NFL players and league legends. The schedule will be available April 20 in the app with regular updates. (Note: this is subject to change without notice.)

• Step inside a uniformed body-cast mold bearing the insignia of your favorite NFL team for a photo

• Take a photo in one of the jumbo photo frames.

• Visit a replica of the official NFL draft stage and take your photo behind the podium as the No. 1 draft pick.

• Visit a replica NFL locker room as it appears on game day and experience the sights of a real NFL pregame inside a video tunnel.

• Take your photo with an oversize replica of all 32 NFL team helmets.

• See all 57 Super Bowl rings and take a digital photo with your favorite ring on your finger.

• Take a photo with the Vince Lombardi Trophy, presented to the team that wins the Super Bowl.

Will the Pro Football Hall of Fame be represented?

Yes! There will be a curated exhibit to include:

• Hall of Fame bronze busts of Lem Barney, Joe DeLamielleure, Calvin Johnson, Alex Karras, Barry Sanders, Charles Woodson and Jerome Bettis.

• George S. Halas NFC Championship Trophy.

• Lamar Hunt AFC Championship Trophy.

• Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award.

• Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award.

What's going on at the Corner Ballpark?

Bring your kiddos to The Corner Ballpark on Michigan Avenue, site of the former Tiger Stadium, for youth-focused activities. (NFL OnePass is required for access.) Don’t worry, there will be screens to watch the draft on the NFL Network so you don’t miss the latest happenings there.

Corner Ballpark will be open 3 p.m.-10 p.m. April 25-26 and 9 a.m.-6 p.m. April 27. The NFL clear bag policy and airport-level screening will be in effect at this venue, too.

Activities include:

• Kick a field goal through NFL uprights.

• Try on NFL equipment.

• Watch and learn from USA Football coaches and NFL players about football and NFL Flag football as well as Heads Up tackling during clinics, competitions and demonstrations. On-field clinics will be open to those age 6-14. Daily clinics are open on a first-come, first-served basis. Check the app for the most updated times each day.

  • Navigate an obstacle course and train like an NFL player.
  • Snap and complete a pass like a pro into a drop-in net.

Food, drinks, entertainment, dancing and shopping

Local fare will be showcased through the Taste of Detroit concessions, bringing flavors from neighborhoods in Detroit including soul food, Greek, Mexican, Middle Eastern and East African cuisines. The restaurants will keep 100% of their revenue.

More than two dozen Detroit restaurants are to be featured in a "taste of the town" tailgate.

Here’s a quick sample of the businesses listed on the app: Waka by Baobab Fare; Good Cakes and Bakes; Chef Greg’s Soul “N” The Wall; El Parian Taco; Detroit 75 Kitchen; Kuzzo’s Chicken & Waffles; Golden Fleece; La Marsa Cuisine; Detroit Water Ice Factory and Mom’s Spaghetti.

A handful of food trucks also are to be at the Corner Ballpark, including Curt Got Crabs and Da Bomb Taco.

The Bud Light Backyard Bar will be for those 21 and older.

Free concerts will be hosted before Round 1 on April 25, Round 3 on April 26 and following Round 7 on April 27, live on the Draft Theater stage following each night of the draft. Concert-viewing is on a first-come, first-served basis and standing room only.

Dancing will play an integral role in the draft events Saturday. The Detroit Hustle will be celebrated across Campus Martius, with fan participation encouraged.

The NFL Shop at 1001 Woodward Ave. will be open to buy your favorite team's swag as well as draft merchandise. It opens 10 a.m. April 20 with hours 10 a.m.-8 p.m. April 20-21 and 11 a.m.-8 p.m. April 22-23. It will be closed April 24 and reopen noon-10 p.m. April 25-26 and 9 a.m.-6 p.m. April 27. Purchases are cash-free.

Getting into and around downtown

You have options, which the app breaks down in detail. And drivers, expect road closures, some of which have been happening since draft setup began.

If you decide to drive downtown , make a plan and prearrange parking. Many off-street lots and garages are booked, and street parking will be limited or restricted in the area. Parking regulations will be enforced; vehicles may be towed. Those planning to park downtown are encouraged to arrive by 10 a.m. You may find off-street parking options on the Park Detroit app or on Park Whiz.

Your noncar options include the Detroit People Mover , which will operate 24 hours a day from 7 a.m. April 25 through 12 a.m. April 28, and the QLINE along Woodward Avenue, per the app.

In terms of bus service, SMART will have park-and-ride services from various points in metro Detroit, including Great Lakes Crossing, several Meijer store locations and Oakland County Community College. It also has its FAST service on Gratiot, Woodward and Michigan Avenue. DDOT services will operate with modified downtown routes because of road closures.

There will be designated shuttle and ride-share drop-off points throughout downtown on Woodward, Jefferson and Fort Street. Detroit Air Xpress, or DAX, is a nonstop coach bus service connecting downtown Detroit to Detroit Metro Airport, and D2A2 is an express coach bus that connects downtown Detroit to downtown Ann Arbor.

How else is the city celebrating?

Free family-friendly events will span several downtown parks within walking distance of the draft site during the three days, including Capitol Park, Beacon Park, Paradise Valley Beatrice Buck Park, Grand Circus Park and a closed-off portion of Woodward between State and Witherell.

Big screens will show the draft action; nearly four dozen vendors will showcase products; more than 60 local artists, musicians and entertainers will participate, and the city will feature interpretive art installations for photo ops. There's cigar rolling April 25 at Paradise Valley Beatrice Buck Park and daily cornhole tournaments from 4-6 p.m. at Beacon Park planned.

And nearly three dozen local food trucks will have tailgating fare. You don't need the NFL OnePass to attend the event in these parks, but you will have to pass through security.
