Think RV YouTubers Make Big Bucks? Here’s How Much Our Last 10 Videos Made

Many people seem to be under the impression that RV YouTubers are rolling in the dough. But is that really true?

We’re throwing back the curtains today and giving you an inside look at just how much money our last 10 YouTube videos made.

You might be surprised! Let’s get into it.

What Is an RV YouTuber?

An RV YouTuber is a YouTube video creator for videos specifically about the RV lifestyle. We have been RV YouTubers since January of 2016 and it has been a truly wild ride.

Our Drivin’ and Vibin’ YouTube channel has accumulated over 15 million views in the last 5 years, but it hasn’t always been easy.

While it might seem like YouTubing or RV life are always easy and perfect, the reality is much different.

nomadic tour youtube income

How Do RV YouTubers Make Money?

Content creators on YouTube make money primarily through the placement of ads before, during, and after their videos.

In order to qualify for ad placement on videos, a YouTube channel must have over 1,000 subscribers and generate a minimum of 4,000 hours of video watch-time over a 12 month period.

In addition to watch-time and subscriber requirements, YouTubers also have to make sure all of their content adheres to YouTube guidelines.

Other ways RV YouTubers make money include through sponsorships, and selling merchandise.

Being a YouTuber Can Be a Full Time Job

Being a YouTuber can easily be a full-time job… with overtime!

Most people don’t realize the amount of work that goes into creating great YouTube content. First, there’s learning how to film in an entertaining and creative way. Then, YouTubers have to learn how to edit their videos and add music and other entertaining features.

Filming takes time and money in the form of education and equipment, but the most time consuming part of being a YouTuber is editing video.

Every YouTuber is different and everyone works at a different pace. A 5 minute YouTube video can easily take 2 hours or longer to edit and prepare for publishing.

Here’s the good thing – most smartphones can be used to record, edit and upload a video all from one device.

Sometimes Being a Creator is Stressful

Being a video content creator can be stressful in and of itself.

When YouTube is a part of your business, you have to constantly come up with entertaining and creative video ideas. Content creators can easily become burnt out from trying to be creative all the time!

Another part of the stress of being a content creator is the fact that as a YouTuber, you’re putting yourself (and sometimes your family’s) life in the spotlight.

We had to change the way we made videos over the last 6 years. Video creation began consuming our travels. And that totally defeated the purpose of why we hit the road, to begin with.

Can You Make a Full Time Income Off Of YouTube Alone?

Yes, YouTube content creators can make a full-time income off of YouTube alone, but it’s generally not recommended. First, it takes a lot of time and hard work to make a substantial income off of YouTube.

Second, if YouTube is your only source of income and they decide to ban your channel, you’d be completely out of luck!

Most YouTubers have a variety of income sources like brand partnerships, sponsorships, blogs, and some even have jobs.

How Long Does it Take To Start Making Money on YouTube?

How long it takes to start making money on YouTube entirely depends upon how quickly you can get to 1,000 subscribers and over 4,000 hours of watch time.

Creating content that gets views on YouTube isn’t a walk in the park! YouTubers have to learn digital marketing skills to create the right kind of videos that will generate views and subscribers.

For some people, monetization on YouTube can happen in just a couple of months. For others, it could take years.

Top RV YouTuber Accounts and Subscriber Numbers Compared To Us

Let’s take a look at our YouTube channel compared to some other popular RV YouTube channels.

RV With Tito DIY

RV With Tito DIY has over 101k subscribers. Brian published the first RV With Tito YouTube Video in January of 2011! This channel has amassed over 11 million views in the past 10 years.

Less Junk More Journey

Marissa and Nathan of Less Junk, More Journey have been YouTubers since November of 2015. Their channel has over 176k subscribers and over 35 million views over the past 6 years.

Fate Unbound

David and Roe of Fate Unbound have over 129k subscribers. Their very first YouTube video was published in April of 2017 and in that time they have generated over 15 million views.

Mortons On The Move:

Our friends Tom and Cait published their first YouTube video in May of 2015. Their channel has over 101k subscribers and they’ve generated over 14 million views in the last six years.

Nomadic Fanatic:

Keep Your Daydream:

Marc and Tricia of Keep Your Daydream started their YouTube channel in July of 2015. Since then, they’ve grown to over 444k subscribers and amassed over 65 million video views.

Here’s How Much Our Last 10 Videos Made

  • Here’s Our New 5th Wheel with a HUGE Off Grid System: $342.42
  • 7 Deadly Sins of RV Camping: $117.52
  • Towing a 5th Wheel Is Hard (But, Doesn’t Have to Be): $105.58
  • We Toured THe Alliance RV Factory & Saw Our New 5th Wheel: $130.65
  • Can RVers Sleep At Truck Stops?: $113.26
  • The Best RVs For Holding Value: $81.55
  • Are eBikes Worth It?: $57.39
  • Can Passengers Drink in a Moving RV?: $50.23
  • Front Kitchen 5th Wheel Tour (PURE LUXURY): $55.22
  • This New 2022 Trailer is Ready to go Off Road (RV TOUR): $24.73

You can see, that’s not a lot of money. Especially when you consider the time involved.

However, we create videos for fun (and when time allows). If we put more effort into it, I’m sure the revenue would be higher. Nevertheless, we’re happy with the place YouTube exists in our life these days.

Is YouTube All It’s Cracked Up To Be?

Is being a YouTube creator all it’s cracked up to be? There’s no doubt about the fact that having a YouTube channel takes a lot of work.

And sometimes it takes the same amount of work as a full-time job, but without any money to show for it!

We love our YouTube community and are so happy to be able to provide fresh RV related content and news to our subscribers every week. But there’s one thing for sure: being a YouTube creator isn’t for everyone.

Thanks for sharing. Regardless of the money you generate from YouTube, I believe you two have one of the best and most informative RV sites out there. I always appreciate the effort you make, as well as the insight you provide.

' src=

I’ve been impressed with both the volume and content of your quality videos and articles. Seeing areas we haven’t is enjoyable but the reality of dealing with travel is also appreciated. Thank you.

' src=

You guys are great! Thank you for all the great info and advice

' src=

Hi there! You guys are doing a great job with your videos and I think everyone should be surprised at how little all that hard work generates.. I know just how hard it is to create an interesting video and I just don’t have the patients it would take if money were my only reason for creating and posting.. I think these days to really make it big time will take a very specialized approach with some kind of niche that others just don’t have (or can’t have) to add to the content.. Another prime example is Russ with his RVerTV channel.. Every video he creates has substantial drone footage of the areas.. Also he is very specific with the areas his content is about.. His “niche” works for him and yours works for you guys! Keep up the great work!

I’m looking forward to being a travelling nomad.. seeing the country and having fun and making the viewers happy and Sharing the unique places the great places of the U.S.A

RV YouTubers Might Make More Than You Think

One of the most frequently asked questions from people considering a move to full-time nomadic life is, “How do I make money on the road?” Many people watch YouTube channels that inspire them.

Some even wonder if they, too, could make money through YouTube. It’s a lot of work, but those channels generate substantial incomes. Just how much do they make? Let’s find out.

How Do YouTubers Make Money?

There are various ways for YouTubers to make money. Some YouTubers get sponsored by companies, sell merchandise, or promote affiliate partnerships. But the vast majority of YouTubers generate income from advertisements that YouTube runs on their videos.

It’s not uncommon for a successful YouTuber to employ several of these money-generating options. But we’re going to focus on advertising revenue, which is one of the easiest and most common ways to monetize your videos.

nomadic tour youtube income

Here’s How Much These Popular RV YouTubers Are Making

A popular RV-related YouTube channel can make anywhere from a few thousand dollars a year to upwards of $100,000 or more. Generally, the more subscribers a channel has, the more views it gets. The more views the videos get, the more money that channel can generate from ads.

Please keep in mind that the figures here are estimates provided by Social Blade , which calculates a low-end and high-end based on viewership. This still gives us some realistic figures.

CheapRVLiving

CheapRVLiving belongs to famous van dweller Bob Wells. You might recognize Bob from his appearance as himself in the 2021 Academy Award-winning Best Picture, “Nomadland.” Bob has lived in various smaller vehicles, such as trucks and vans, to escape the bombardment of societal pressures. He traded the American norm for a life of less stuff and more happiness.

Bob’s channel, CheapRVLiving, offers videos on embracing minimalism, as well as how-tos and interviews with other nomads. As of May 2021, the CheapRVLiving YouTube channel had about 518,000 subscribers.

Cheap RV Living YouTube Income

According to Social Blade , Cheap RV Living generates between $5,700 and $92,000 per year in YouTube advertising. This equates to $479 to $7,700 per month.

Marc and Tricia Leach’s income comes from far more than their YouTube channel. While some RVers focus only on YouTube, Marc and Tricia also have a podcast, website, educational courses, and more.

Like many folks who embrace a travel lifestyle, Marc and Tricia were tired of the rat race. They had big travel dreams that always got put on the back burner. That’s why they decided to take the leap into full-time RV living with their kids Caleb, Carson, and Tori.

They’ve since created 10 seasons of content on YouTube about their travels. They also have several special “in-between” seasons that highlight aspects of their lives. This ranges from moving into full-time travel life to their adventures on the road and even a few how-to videos. As of May 2021, the Keep Your Daydream YouTube channel had about 411,000 subscribers.

Keep Your Daydream YouTube Income

According to Social Blade , Keep Your Daydream earns between $5,500 and $88,000 per year in YouTube advertising. This equates to about $460 to $7,300 per month.

Eric Jacobs and his 26-pound cat Jax comprise Nomadic Fanatic. Several years ago, Eric balked at the life that people expected of him. He left behind the idea of getting married and settling down in a house with a white picket fence, choosing freedom on the road instead. With Jax at his side, he set off on a life of adventure ranging from national parks to historic drives to theme parks.

Nomadic Fanatic shows Eric and Jax’s adventures, as well as some of their struggles, in a life built on full-time travel in their Class A RV “Miranda.” As of May 2021, the Nomadic Fanatic YouTube channel had about 223,000 subscribers.

Nomadic Fanatic YouTube Income

According to Social Blade , Nomadic Fanatic generates between $2,500 and $39,600 per year in YouTube advertising. This equates to about $206 to $3,300 per month.

Less Junk, More Journey

Less Junk, More Journey launched in 2015 when Nathan, Marissa, and Hensely sold their house and hit the road in their RV. Their YouTube channel offers a deep dive into their everyday lives, from downsizing to fit into an RV to destinations that they visit. They even talk about how they plan their routes and how to find the right RV. As of May 2021, the Less Junk, More Journey YouTube channel had about 170,000 subscribers.

Less Junk, More Journey YouTube Income

According to Social Blade , Less Junk More Journey generates between $1,200 and $19,400 per year in YouTube advertising. This equates to $101 to $1,600 per month.

You Won’t Make Money Overnight

As YouTube has grown over the years, so has the opportunity for RVers to create entertaining and educational videos. The numbers included from Social Blade are estimates but show the potential for significant income. Of course, none of the channels featured here made money overnight. It’s taken years for them to build an audience.

Nomad’s Playbook: 7 Income Streams to Sustain Your Travels

Welcome to Nomad’s Playbook: 7 Income Streams to Sustain Your Travels and Mellow Nomadic Adventures , where the journey unfolds in a minivan camper named Carol the Caravan. Our mission? To explore all 63 US National Parks, sharing our experiences with fellow travelers. But what makes this nomadic adventure possible? Monetization.

Get Lost in Grand View @ New River Gorge National Park

Why is monetization important for sustaining a nomadic lifestyle?

It’s simple. When you’re on the road, expenses like frequent vehicle maintenance, fuel costs, admission fees to parks, and campgrounds, and even daily necessities like laundry and mail add up. To maintain this unique way of life, I’ve discovered a roadmap to financial freedom, and I’m excited to share it with you.

But before we dive into the seven income streams that can sustain your nomadic journey, let’s get to know the storyteller behind the wheel. I’m Marshall, your guide through this nomadic playbook. I’ve been pursuing a nomadic journey for the last two and a half years.

Join me as we explore the world, find inspiration in hidden corners, and learn how to sustain a life on the road while chasing our dreams.

Nomad's Playbook: 7 Income Streams to Sustain Your Travels. Fees-and-costs-when-visiting-Yellowstone-National-Park-Photo-by-Karolina-Grabowska-httpswww.pexels.comphotocalculator-and-notepad-placed-on-usa-dollars-stack-4386366

Seven Income Streams for Nomadic Content Creators:

Now that we’ve set the stage, let’s open the pages of the Nomad’s Playbook and explore the seven income streams that can make your nomadic journey not only sustainable but also financially rewarding.

  • Affiliate Marketing: This income stream involves promoting products or services and earning a commission for each sale made through your unique affiliate link. It’s like recommending your favorite travel gear or gadgets and getting rewarded for it . Most brands have an affiliate program. Or you can join affiliate networks that have many brands under one umbrella.
  • Content Marketing: Creating valuable content, whether through blog articles, videos, or social media , can attract a loyal audience. This audience can be monetized through various channels, such as ad revenue and sponsored content.

Nomadic Life Starter Kit by Mellow Nomadic Adventures Promo 3

  • Digital Products: My Nomadic Life Starter Kit , an ebook packed with insights on rig options, free camping spots, essential apps, and income stream ideas, is a prime example. This free ebook is the first step to a funnel that begins by collecting email addresses. Having an email list is key to growing your online income with digital products. Creating and selling digital products, whether guides or courses, can be a profitable venture.
  • Merchandise Sales: TeeSpring , RedBubble , Etsy , and Spreadshop are platforms to design and sell merchandise, from clothing to accessories. This is a creative outlet to express your brand and engage with your community.
  • Affiliate Programs: Partner with companies like SiteGround , your hosting provider, and earn commissions when others sign up through your referral links. Join affiliate networks and have a variety of brands you can work with. Affiliate networks like Impact or ClickBank .
  • Google Adsense : This advertising network enables you to monetize your website with display ads. The more traffic you attract, the greater your potential earnings.

  • YouTube: The heart of your content, YouTube pays based on views, and YouTube Memberships and Super Chats add an interactive and direct monetization dimension to your channel.

In this nomadic journey, these income streams are your companions, each offering unique opportunities to fuel your adventures. But remember, consistency is the key. Choose one and nurture it, and as we move forward in the Nomad’s Playbook , we’ll reveal tips for effective monetization.

Tips for Effective Monetization:

Now that you’ve met our nomadic income streams, it’s time to unlock the secrets to making them flourish. Here in the Nomad’s Playbook , we’ve gathered some valuable insights to guide you on your path to successful monetization.

7 Income Streams to Sustain Your Travels by Mellow Nomadic

  • Consistency is Vital: Picture your income streams like campfires along the road. One campfire won’t light your entire journey, but if you consistently stoke each one, they’ll collectively illuminate your path. Choose one income stream to focus on initially, and once it’s steadily burning, introduce the next, all while continuing to nurture the previous ones.
  • Promote, Promote, Promote: Don’t just set up shop and expect customers to find you. Whether you’re marketing merchandise, digital products, or affiliate links, consistent promotion is key. Social media, newsletters, and collaborations with fellow nomadic creators can help spread the word.

As you navigate the winding road of monetization, remember that Rome wasn’t built in a day. It’s okay to make mistakes, and learning by doing is a valuable teacher. So, don’t be discouraged by initial setbacks. Instead, see them as stepping stones on your path to success.

In the Nomad’s Playbook, our journey is about more than just discovering income streams; it’s about mastering them and using them to propel your nomadic lifestyle to new heights. Next, we’ll explore the importance of diversifying your income sources to ensure financial stability on the road.

Why Diversifying Income Sources Matters:

As we continue our journey through the Nomad’s Playbook , it’s essential to understand why diversifying your income sources is not just a smart strategy but a vital one for sustaining your nomadic lifestyle.

  • The Safety Net: Picture your income streams as the sturdy spokes of a wagon wheel. If one spoke breaks, the wheel can still turn. Diversifying your income sources acts as a safety net. When one isn’t performing as expected, others can pick up the slack, ensuring your financial stability remains intact.
  • Creating Your Own Products: While affiliate marketing and advertising are valuable, consider crafting your own products, whether digital or physical. Creating something of value tailored to your niche not only adds diversity to your income but also strengthens your brand’s identity. For example, I turned my National Park photography into a custom jigsaw puzzle for my eBay store .

nomadic tour youtube income

In the nomadic world, adaptability is key. By diversifying your income sources, you’re building a resilient financial structure that can weather the unpredictable twists and turns of the road. In the Nomad’s Playbook , we’re not just travelers; we’re strategists, forging a path to financial freedom.

Now that we’ve explored diversification, let’s delve into the tools and resources you can use to manage and track your nomadic income. These tools will help you maintain a clear financial roadmap on your journey.

Tools and Resources for Managing Income:

In our nomadic adventures, organization, and efficiency are our compass points. Let’s take a moment to uncover the tools and resources that will help you navigate the financial aspects of your nomadic life.

  • Google Sheets Spreadsheet : This is your digital ledger, a free and versatile tool for tracking income and expenses. With a few simple formulas, it can automatically calculate key financial metrics for you.
  • Essential Gear: Your nomadic toolkit extends beyond spreadsheets. An Apple laptop , preferably with an SSD external hard drive for seamless mobility, ensures you’re equipped for the digital realm. Wireless and Bluetooth connectivity, along with a lavalier microphone for crisp audio, are essential for content creation. A quality smartphone, like an iPhone , serves as your camera, video recorder, and communication hub.

As a nomad, your life is on the move, and these tools are your trusted companions, helping you manage your income and stay connected with your audience. They’re the silent partners in your nomadic success story.

Next, we’ll delve into the challenges nomadic content creators may face and the solutions to overcome them. Let’s navigate these obstacles together.

Challenges and Solutions:

Key Takeaways

  • Top YouTubers utilize multiple revenue streams, including sponsorships, merchandise, and fan funding.
  • Key earnings factors: niche, audience location, video engagement, and content length.
  • Joining the YouTube Partner Program requires meeting specific eligibility criteria for monetization.

If you’re always looking for ways to make money online , creating a YouTube channel might have crossed your mind.

It’s one of the most recommended passive income streams you can start immediately.

The best part is that the YouTube platform is a hub for entertainment, education, inspiration, and everything in between.

So you’ll probably find an audience for the type of video content you make.

But how much do YouTubers make?

Perhaps you’ve heard of YouTube stars raking in millions of dollars while other creators struggle to earn a few dollars.

What causes the huge disparity?

Various factors come into play, which causes the difference—and sometimes confusion.

But understanding YouTube earnings isn’t complicated.

We’ll give you the inside scoop on how to make money on YouTube below, so you can get a realistic idea of how much you can make on the platform.

How Much Money Do YouTubers Make?

A YouTuber’s income isn’t fixed. It varies depending on the monetization strategy and the channel’s monthly performance.

The top YouTube earners combine multiple revenue streams.

However, Google ad revenue accounts for a significant portion of most YouTubers’ paychecks.

By joining the YouTube Partner Program (YPP), content creators can earn money from ads placed on their videos.

Here’s an overview of some AdSense revenue stats that can help to answer the question, “how much do YouTubers make?”:

  • The average YouTuber earns between $0.01 and $0.03 per ad view, translating to about $18 per 1,000 views.
  • YouTubers receive 55% of their channels’ ad revenue, while Google takes 45%.
  • The average pay for US YouTubers in 2022 was $1,154 per week and $4,616 per month.
  • The top highly successful creators make millions of dollars through their YouTuber channels annually.

What Is the YouTube Partner Program?

The YPP gives content creators the tools to monetize their videos and make money on YouTube.

While ad revenue is the most popular way to monetize a YouTube channel, it’s not the only option available under the program.

YouTube’s Partner Program allows you as the content creator to make money in the following ways:

  • Advertising revenue: Earn revenue by enabling ads to be placed before, during, and after the video. It’s the primary monetization strategy for most YouTubers.
  • Channel memberships: You can leverage your fans and subscribers by offering members-only perks. The membership costs range from $4.99 to $49.99 per month.
  • Shopping: You can promote and sell products from your store or other brands, like merch.
  • Super Chat & Super Stickers: Your supporters can pay to have their messages or animated images highlighted in chat streams.
  • Super Thanks: Viewers pay to highlight their message in your video’s comments section.
  • YouTube Premium revenue: You will receive a portion of YouTube Premium subscribers’ subscription fee when they watch your videos.

YouTube Partner Program Eligibility Requirements

To join YPP, YouTubers need to meet specific eligibility criteria, such as:

  • Have a minimum of 1,000 subscribers
  • Get at least 4,000 hours of public content watch time in the last 12 months
  • Have 10 million valid public Shorts views over the previous 90 days (for YouTube shorts monetization)
  • Have a Google AdSense account
  • Follow the YouTube channel monetization policies
  • Have no active Community Guidelines strikes

Factors That Impact a YouTuber’s Earnings

What factors influence a content creator’s video ad revenue potential? Below is an overview of the main variables that determine a YouTuber’s ad income:

1. Monetized Views

YouTube pays for monetized views, meaning that not all views on a video will generate revenue.

An ad must be placed, and viewers must watch it for a certain length, usually at least 30 seconds, for the YouTuber to earn from that view.

That might be outside your control, but you can encourage your loyal fans to support your YouTube channel by watching those ads.

If the viewer has enabled an ad-blocker, they’ll see no ads, meaning that view isn’t monetized.

Understanding the idea of monetized views will help you understand why sometimes a YouTuber’s salary doesn’t correspond to video views.

While you are free to create content in any niche, your choice can affect your revenue.

Niche categories, such as finance, insurance, and technology, typically pay more per view than other categories.

That’s because advertisers in specific industries are willing to pay more for ad placement to reach their target audience.

YouTube video earnings are quoted in cost per 1,000 impressions (CPM). So you’ll earn more from an advertiser willing to pay a bigger CPM.

3. Viewer’s Location

The geographic location of your audience can also impact earnings.

Advertisers in certain countries pay more per view than others because of where their target audience is based.

A YouTuber’s audience demographics can affect the location of their viewers.

4. Video Engagement Level

The level of engagement on a video, including likes, comments, and shares, can also impact earnings indirectly.

YouTube’s algorithm recommends highly engaged videos to new viewers, leading to more views and ad income.

That’s why most YouTubers always encourage their audience to like, share, and subscribe.

5.Video’s Length

A longer video gives more opportunities to insert Google ads than a shorter one.

So you might have one or two ad placements in a two-minute video, while a 20-minute video will have much more.

But don’t just make long videos for the sake of it. Ensure you make engaging videos for the viewers to watch until the end.

The Highest-Paid YouTubers

YouTube earnings are not limited to pocket change, as demonstrated by the highest-paid YouTubers of recent years.

These YouTubers have over 1M subscribers and make money by utilizing different monetization strategies.

These YouTube creators have built massive audiences and leveraged their influence to secure lucrative brand deals and sponsorships.

Here are the most successful YouTubers and their estimated annual income:

  • MrBeast – $54 million
  • Jake Paul – $45 million
  • Markiplier – $38 million
  • Rhett & Link – $30 million
  • Unspeakable – $28.5 million
  • Like Nastya – $28 million
  • Ryan Kaji (Ryan’s World) – $27 million
  • Dude Perfect – $20 million
  • Logan Paul – $18 million
  • Preston – $16 million

Feeling a little envious of the huge paychecks?

You don’t need to achieve this level of success to generate a full-time income from YouTube.

Many average YouTubers are earning a decent income from the platform.

The success of the top earners highlights the potential of YouTube as a platform for generating income online and building a career as a content creator.

Ways to Make Money on YouTube

Ad income is the primary source of income for most video content creators, but the savviest ones utilize all the monetization strategies available.

Here are the top ways to make money on YouTube:

1. Sponsorships and Brand Deals

One of the most popular ways YouTubers make money is through sponsorships and brand deals.

You partner with companies to promote their products or services in your videos.

Typically, sponsors will pay you based on your videos’ number of views, clicks, or purchases.

You must disclose these deals when promoting a sponsored product or service to maintain transparency.

2. Merchandise Sales

You have probably seen YouTubers selling branded items like T-shirts and mugs. That’s what merchandise sales are all about.

Most YouTubers sell clothing, accessories, or products featuring their brand or logo.

They use services like Teespring or Redbubble to create and sell their merchandise.

The key to success with merch sales on YouTube is building a strong brand and loyal audience that wants to support you.

Some also use their YouTube channel creators’ platform to promote other projects they are working on.

3. Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing involves promoting a product or service and earning a commission for any resulting sales.

You can include affiliate links in your video descriptions.

But first, you’ll need to find products or services to promote.

You can use affiliate marketing networks like Amazon Associates or ShareASale to find products to promote.

Ensure always to promote brands that you trust.

4. Fan Funding and Crowdfunding

Some YouTubers turn to fan funding or crowdfunding to support their channels.

Most creators use Patreon to receive recurring payments from their fans in exchange for exclusive content or other perks. Others ask for PayPal and Cash App donations.

It’s also possible to use crowdfunding platforms like Kickstarter or GoFundMe to raise money for specific projects or goals from fans.

Why You Should Look Beyond Ads for Revenue

As a YouTuber, relying solely on ad revenue may not be the best approach for generating consistent income.

The amount you earn from ads depends on factors outside your control, such as the current market conditions, advertiser demand, and the YouTube algorithm’s performance.

Looking beyond ads and exploring other monetization options like sponsorships, merchandise sales, affiliate marketing, and fan funding is crucial.

Diversifying allows you to tap into your audience’s interests and build stronger relationships with your fans.

FAQs on Making Money on YouTube

How much money does a youtuber make per hour.

YouTube pays based on views, not an hourly wage.

To calculate how much a YouTuber makes per hour, you need to know their average monthly earnings and the hours they spend creating and publishing videos.

For example, if YouTubers earn $5,000 per month and spend 40 hours per week (160 hours per month) creating videos, they make about $31.25 per hour.

Remember, income from YouTube can be variable and unpredictable, making it challenging to determine a consistent hourly rate.

Just because you made $5,000 last month doesn’t guarantee the same or close amount this month.

How Much Do YouTubers Make per 100,000 Views?

Typically, the average YouTuber makes between $0.01 and $0.03 per ad view.

Since YouTubers take home 55% of the ad earnings, that comes to about $5-$18 per 1,000 views.

As a result, YouTubers can make anywhere between $500-$1,800 per 100,000 monetized views.

Keep in mind these are average figures, and the actual payments can be higher or lower.

How Much Does a YouTuber With 1 Million Subscribers Make in a Year?

YouTube doesn’t pay based on the number of subscribers. Instead, it pays per monetized view.

But subscribers are essential because they can help to increase a YouTuber’s views, engagement, and overall reach.

Subscribers are more likely to watch your videos consistently , share them with others, and leave comments or likes, all of which contribute to increased views and revenue potential.

On average, 10% of subscribers will likely watch your new videos shortly after publishing.

So, generally speaking, the higher the subscriber count, the better.

YouTubers with one million subscribers typically make about $60,000 annually.

Do YouTubers Get Paid Monthly?

Yes. YouTube pays its creators through Google AdSense monthly. It processes your previous month’s payment around the 21st of the current month.

How Much Can You Earn in Your YouTube Channel’s Early Days?

Generally, most content creators don’t earn any money during the early days of their YouTube channels.

To make advertising revenue from a YouTube video, you’ll need at least 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 hours which might take time to achieve.

However, with consistent content creation, engaging content, and growing viewership, a YouTuber can start earning a decent income over time.

So during the initial days of starting a YouTube channel, you should focus on building a loyal audience invested in your content.

How Much Money Can a YouTuber Make per Video?

Some YouTube videos earn a substantial income, while others don’t do as well, even for the top earners.

How much a YouTuber makes from a video depends on various factors like monetized views, niche, and the number of ads placed through the video.

The estimated pay rate is $5 per 1,000 video views made.

Some YouTubers will make more per view, and others will make less based on factors like ad quality and CPM.

Who Is the Highest-Paid YouTuber?

Jimmy Donaldson (aka MrBeast) is currently the highest-earning YouTube creator with an estimated annual income of $54 million.

How Much Do YouTubers Make per 1,000 Views?

YouTubers generally take home between $5 to $18 per 1,000 ad views.

Do You Get Paid for Uploading Videos on YouTube?

You don’t get paid for just uploading videos on YouTube. Instead, you’re paid for monetized ad views.

You can join the YouTube Partner Program and monetize your videos through ads.

However, your channel must meet the program’s eligibility requirements.

Once your application is approved, you can earn money from your content.

You can also monetize YouTube videos through sponsorships, merchandise sales, and other revenue streams.

Wrapping Up

The earning potential for YouTubers is vast and ever-changing.

While there’s no guarantee of success, making a living on the platform with the right niche, strategy, and persistence is possible.

Are you an aspiring content creator or just curious about making money in the world of YouTube?

We hope this article has given you a better understanding of how much YouTubers make and the opportunities available in this exciting field.

1. Earn with ads as a YouTube Partner Program member

Let’s get this one out of the way first. You must join the YouTube Partner Program to earn money from advertisements. And you can’t become a YouTube partner who includes ads on your channel until it surpasses the 1,000-subscriber threshold. You’ll also need a collective 4,000 hours of watch time on long-form videos within the past 12 months or 10 million Shorts views within the past 90 days. (See No. 5 for how to join the Partner Program with reduced eligibility requirements.) Check those big boxes and it opens the door to ad revenue.

A few additional requirements apply before you can become a partner:

Your videos must abide by YouTube’s monetization policies .

You must live in an eligible area.

You need to link a Google AdSense account.

Click the “earn” section in YouTube Studio to apply. YouTube says it typically gets back to you within one month of reviewing your application to let you know if you’re approved or not.

As a YouTube partner, you can earn money through ads, chat features and from YouTube Premium subscribers who watch your content. The platform also allows YouTube partners to earn ad revenue on Shorts, which are YouTube’s version of short-form TikTok-like videos.

How many views on YouTube does it take to make money?

You don’t get paid per video view. Rather, you’re paid for the times when someone watches or clicks on an ad shown on your video.

Influencer Marketing Hub says that while payment varies, the average YouTube channel can expect to make about $18 per 1,000 ad views. That translates to $3 to $5 per 1,000 video views when you factor in the rate of ads actually viewed. The site has a YouTube calculator to gauge how much revenue you might make.

So when do you start making money on YouTube?

You'll be paid once your balance reaches $100. Say it takes approximately 1,000 video views to earn $4 from those viewers who saw ads. You would need 25,000 video views to make $100 through those ads.

If you have a small channel, you might get paid only every few months. You'll also want to be familiar with how Google, which issues AdSense payments, handles taxes .

Sound like a long road ahead?

Below are alternative ways to earn before you hit 1,000 subscribers.

2. Take a cut with affiliate marketing

Affiliate marketing might be the most beginner-friendly way to monetize your YouTube traffic, especially if you plan to make product review videos. It works like this:

You find a company or seller with an affiliate program, such as Amazon Associates, and apply to join.

Once accepted, you’ll use their process to create custom links to products you plan to feature in your videos.

Demo, review or make reference to the products in your YouTube videos, and paste your custom affiliate marketing link(s) in the description field when you upload.

As an affiliate of a brand, you’ll earn a commission when a viewer clicks your custom link and purchases the product.

While Amazon Associates is a great way to make money on Amazon , endless other opportunities exist. Search on affiliate marketing sites such as ShareASale and ClickBank for possible corporate partners and products to feature. You can also search your favorite brands’ websites for information on how to become an affiliate.

If your channel eventually reaches more than 15,000 subscribers and you meet other eligibility requirements, you can explore the YouTube Shopping Affiliate program as a way to boost your earnings.

Don’t forget to properly notify your viewers about your affiliation with the brand or brands featured, and be sure to point them to the “link in description” when you shoot your video.

3. Land a brand deal and make sponsored content

Companies interested in your channel’s audience might sponsor your videos or offer you product placement deals in exchange for a shoutout, called brand deals in the biz.

The operative word here is “audience,” which means these types of deals are more likely to present themselves when you develop a following. As your channel grows, you can contact the brands you’d like to work with directly, or use resources like the aforementioned affiliate marketing sites to find corporate partners that complement your style of content.

With brand deals, you can receive lump sum payments, earn commission on a per-sale basis or get the product or service for free.

Keep in mind: If you do have an endorsement or use product placement in a video, you must notify YouTube by ticking a box in your video details.

4. Sell some merch

If you have merchandise or offer a service that’s relevant to your audience, let them know about it and provide links in your videos. For example, creator Marques Brownlee, of popular tech review channel MKBHD, leaves a link to his own line of T-shirts and accessories in every video he posts.

Selling a physical product might require you to buy materials or find a manufacturer, but you can also sell downloadables such as e-books, art prints or virtual classes. Have a secure payment system in place before you advertise your goods.

Incentive to sell: While creating your own products can be a lot harder than pitching those of other companies, you could stand to make more money this way, since you’ll keep the bulk of your proceeds as the product owner.

5. Offer memberships

A membership model is another way to monetize viewership. With this method, fans of the channel pay a small subscription fee for perks and/or an exclusive tier of access.

Patreon is a popular third-party membership platform. YouTube has been rolling out its own channel memberships feature, but you need to be part of the YouTube Partner Program to be eligible.

For channel memberships, you can join the Partner Program with 500 subscribers, 3 public uploads in the last 90 days, and either 3,000 public watch hours on long-form video in the last 365 days or 3 million Shorts views in the last 90 days. That’s as opposed to the higher Partner Program eligibility requirements if you want to earn revenue through ads on your channel.

As always, more viewers can lead to more revenue. Incentives such as members-only livestreams, chats or other perks may entice viewers to become paying members.

How much money can you make on YouTube?

Breakout YouTube stars with millions of followers stand to make the most money, easily reaching seven figures. But even lesser-known content creators with a modest following can make some solid income on the side, or even full time.

According to Forbes, creator Jimmy Donaldson of the hugely popular channel MrBeast earned $54 million in 2023, in large part from the 237 million subscribers he’s racked up on YouTube. That kind of success is more the exception than the rule.

On the more modest side, Cinquanta Cox-Smith, a YouTuber focused on print-on-demand content with 11,900 subscribers, brings in about $120,000 in annual revenue, according to Career Ahead, a career-focused educational magazine.

Matt Par, a YouTube sensation who became successful as a teenager with a Top 10 list channel and now runs multiple channels including on how to make money on YouTube, tells viewers that the platform's Partner Program can be a good income-building source. He says he earns $30,000 per month in ad revenue through the program.

Earn an audience, and earn more in the long run

YouTube offers opportunity for all, but it’s not a get-rich-quick platform. It takes time, effort and an engaged audience to make money on YouTube. The good news is, with a little motivation and a lot of practice, you can find ways to earn before the coveted 1,000-subscriber threshold.

Keep these tips in mind as you get started:

The more videos you make and upload, the easier it is to reach the viewing-hours threshold.

The better you target your content to a specific audience or niche (e.g., film photography), the more likely your viewers will be to subscribe for more.

Thoughtful, entertaining videos are more likely to get views, so it pays to put effort into planning and production.

Don’t discount the power of a targeted title and standout thumbnail to attract viewer attention.
