Norwegian Cruise Line Laundry – Price List, Services, and Packages

If you are considering a cruise with Norwegian Cruise Line, you might be wondering about the types of laundry services that they offer onboard.

I’ve cruised with NCL over 14 times and have used a variety of laundry options onboard.

Do Norwegian Cruise Line Have a Self-Serve Laundry?

Norwegian Cruise Line provides laundry services for a charge, which can be purchased onboard or pre-purchased prior to the cruise. Norwegian Cruise Line does not have self-serve laundries on any of its cruise ships.

I have used the paid laundry services with Norwegian Cruise Line before and have even been able to have clothes laundered for free. More about that at the end of the post.

Norwegian cruises don’t include laundry but they do include a variety of food, some drinks, and more. If you are taking your first cruise with Norwegian and are wondering what is included, check out this post: Do Norwegian Cruise Line Cruises Include Meals? Included Food Guide

How Much Does Laundry Cost on a Norwegian Cruise Line Cruise?

Washing, ironing, and laundering a pair of jeans with Norwegian Cruise Line averages around $7.95. A T-shirt costs $4.95, and shorts also cost $4.95. A dress costs around $11.95, and underwear costs as little as $1.95.

The table below was created using data from several Norwegian ships. It is designed to give you a rough idea of how much things cost and should not be taken as exact.

The prices of laundry (and all things on cruise ships) change regularly.

Sample Norwegian Cruise Line Laundry Prices

Laundry Deals Available With Norwegian Cruise Line:

Unlike other cruise lines, NCL doesn’t offer laundry packages where you can purchase a certain number of items being laundered for a certain amount of money.

Personally, I think that this is a shame, as these packages often save a lot of money on the “pay as you go” prices. Norwegian do have an alternative though.

Fill a Bag Promotion/Bundle Bag:

During almost all Norwegian cruises there will be a day where there is a ‘fill a bag’ laundry offer for a certain price. The laundry bag will be in your cabin and it is a paper bag roughly the size of a pillowcase.

The package usually costs around $30 and all items that you can fit in the bag will be washed and ironed for this set price. Be careful not the rip the bag though as they are quite fragile!

How to use this promotion:

  • They will also add little tags on to your clothes with your cabin number. These tags are quite sticky and I’ve had a few which have stayed on for months after getting home.
  • Place the full bag on the bed with the label.
  • Your steward will pick up your laundry bag for you and take it to the laundry.
  • If your laundry is collected before noon it will be returned to you before the evening of the following day.

If you do want the items returned to you faster you can pay for express service. The express service is collected by 9 am and returned the same day by 6 pm. To have your clothes laundered at the express rate will cost you an extra 50%.

How do You Use The Pay Per Item Laundry with Norwegian Cruise Line?

If you aren’t doing the full bag promotion you must fill out the laundry sheet and total up the amount that you are spending.

I’m sure that the laundry checks this but it’s always good to have an idea of how much you are spending too. It’s also important that you sign the form.

Norwegian Cruise Line Laundry Terms and Conditions:

Norwegian have an extra charge for silk items as these are washed separately.

Norwegian don’t accept responsibility for your clothes if they shrink or become discolored.

If your item is lost or damaged the liability for the item is limited to 10 times the price that you paid to have the item laundered. If you have a particularly expensive dress or suit I would recommend that you don’t have this laundered by the cruise line.

Norwegian Cruise Line Offer Platinum Latitudes Members a Free Bag of Laundry

Norwegian Cruise Line’s loyalty program is called Latitudes. With this loyalty program, you can get discounts on laundry.

Gold members receive 50% off 1 bag of laundry

Platinum, Platinum Plus, and Ambassador members receive 1 free bag of laundry.

I have a platinum loyalty status with Norwegian because I’ve been cruising with them since I was 11. The free laundry is definitely one of my favourite perks!

The free bag promotion is similar to the above fill-a-bag promotion – but it doesn’t cost anything.

The platinum-free bag promotion can used any point during the cruise. I usually write “Platinum free bag” on the label just to make sure that I won’t be charged.

Free Alternatives to Cruise Line Laundry Services

If at all possible I do try to avoid paying for laundry when I cruise. I usually make use of my free bag and wash any other items myself.

I use the travel wash to wash things like t-shirts and socks in the cabin sink. It’s easy to do and almost free!

Dr. Beckmann Travel Wash, 100 ml

How to Use Travel Wash:

Using travel wash is really easy and doesn’t take long at all. Start by filling the sink with warm water then add a very small amount of the travel wash.

Move your clothes around in the wash and then put them to the side. I like to wash all clothes in the same bubbly water before moving on to rinse them off. Rinsing some clothes in the sink can be a bit tricky but rinsing them in the shower is always a good option.

Once you’ve washed your clothes try to ring out as much of the water as possible so that they can dry faster.

There is usually a line for hanging your clothes in the shower so I do this. Cruise lines do try to dissuade guests from hanging clothes on their balconies to dry because they can blow away and become a danger.

Can You Borrow an Iron From Norwegian Cruise Line?

Guests are able to borrow an iron on Norwegian Cruise Line cruise by asking their room steward.

If you do want to iron your clothes yourself I’d recommend that you do this at the start of the cruise. That way you can get the ironing out of the way and get on with your cruise!

Can You Bring an Iron on a Cruise?

You can’t bring an iron on a cruise. Irons are banned on cruises because they pose a safety risk and if you do try to bring one on board with you this will be confiscated.

All luggage is scanned on cruise ships to look for things like alcohol or dangerous items.

Find out the top confiscated items from cruise ships in the article below:

These Are The 5 Items Most Regularly Confiscated by Cruise Lines

Norwegian Cruise Line Ironing Board

How to ‘Iron’ Your Clothes Without Using an Iron

Use gravity to drop out the creases.

There is not a lot more annoying than carefully picking out your outfit and realising that you look like you need a good iron! Keeping clothes wrinkle-free when they’ve been packed into a suitcase is quite a challenge.

To get rid of the worst of the wrinkles I like to have a hot shower and then hang the clothes in the bathroom.

This can be tricky if the coat hangers in your closet are attached to the closet but generally speaking it’s usually quite easy to take out a coat hanger and hang your clothes on the inside of the bathroom door.

The creases mostly disappear as the bathroom dries out. It isn’t perfect, but it is a lot better than just wearing your freshly creased clothes!

If you are worried about wrinkles in your clothes it may be worth buying something like this:

Star Laundry Aids Lenor Crease Releaser Spray Removes Creases in Fabric. Spring Awakening Scent, 500 millilitre

Spraying this onto your clothes before having a shower and then leaving the creases to drop out will maximise the effect.

Is It Worth Paying For Laundry on a Norwegian Cruise?

If you are going to wash more than four or so items I’d recommend that you wait for the “fill a bag” promotion as it’s much better value. If you do only want to wash one or two items it could be worth just doing this on a pay-as-you-go basis.

Make sure you take advantage of any discounts offered to you through the Latitudes program.

If you are only wanting to wash a few T-shirts, maybe some gym clothes, socks, etc I’d strongly recommend that you do your own laundry in the cabin sink. It’s cheap and easy!

Norwegian Cruise Line Laundry Service: Everything You Need To Know!

Before packing for Norwegian Cruise Line, every traveler asks about laundry service. Based on the laundry service, you can pack accordingly.

Luckily, NCL has laundry service but not self-laundry; they charge you based on the number of clothes to wash and iron. Platinum members are even more fortunate; they get a free laundry bag.

I have been traveling several times on Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) and used their laundry service every time.

In this guide, I will share everything about the NCL cruise line laundry service and their charges, so let’s get into it.

Table of Contents

What Types Of Laundry Service Does Norwegian Cruise Line Offers?

NCL laundry service

Just like any other cruise line, the NCL offers laundry services, but what type of service do they have?

NCL offers a paid laundry service you can purchase before or after onboard. There is no self-laundry service available like Carnival Cruise. You have to pay for each pair of clothes.

There is also no bundle laundry service. Before the pandemic, they used to offer this service– one full bag for $29, which was very reasonable. But now you have to separate your clothes.

In terms of laundry service, the NCL seems expensive; most of the cruise lines, including MSC, offer free laundry service. So, before packing for a Norwegian cruise, you might have to pack a few extra pairs of clothes.

NCL Laundry Service Prices

Laundry service prices might vary across the NCL fleet. But below, I have shared a rough idea regarding laundry service prices.

In your stateroom, you will be provided with a laundry form, and you have to tick the item that you want to wash or iron and total up the amount.

Norwegian Cruise Line Laundry Service Special Offer

NCL special laundry service offer

Even though laundry on NCL seems expensive, but once in a week NCL offers a bundle laundry service. You can take advantage of this special offer that only costs $29 for one pillow-size bag.

Everyone on the cruise can avail of this offer. There will be a pillow-size bag in your cabin; all you need is to fill that big with the clothes and send it for laundry.

Just fill the bag and leave it on your bed. The steward will pick up your bag and deliver it to the laundry room. However, their service is very quick; if you deliver a laundry bag before noon, it will be delivered on the same day in the evening or next day.

Avail Free Bag Laundry Service

ncl free laundry service

Just like other cruise lines, the Norwegian Cruise Line also support their loyal guest. So if you have a platinum status, you can avail a free bag laundry service.

The free bag laundry service is similar to the “Bundle Laundry Service,” but you don’t have to pay anything this time. I love the complimentary laundry bag, and you can avail of this offer throughout the voyage.

Like platinum members, Sapphire, Diamond, and Ambassador members also use bag laundry service. At the same time, the gold member will get 50% off one bag.

To reach the platinum, you have to earn 75 points, which means you have to spend 75 nights on a cruise to get the platinum status.

How To Get Free Laundry On NCL

DIY people always look for some shortcuts to save money. Well! Nothing is better than washing your clothes free of cost onboard.

If you have spare time, you can wash your clothes in the sink of your cabin. Don’t forget to pack a few cloth washing soaps or detergents. This is the best way to save your money on laundry service.

First, fill the cabin’s sink with water, put a few drops of detergent in it, put your clothes inside. To hang the cloth, you can use the line in the shower area.

I usually use a portable wash bag, making washing easier and quick. The scrubba bag is convenient, and you can easily carry it in your luggage.

Here are the steps to use a scrubba bag to wash your clothes in your cabin’s bathroom.

  • Put your clothes in the bag first. Usually, you can wash 1-2 pairs of clothes at a time in this bag.
  • Fill the bag with clean water and add some drops of detergent.
  • Twist the valve to remove air from the bag. And now, gently scrub the bag to clean your clothes.
  • Now unzip the bag and remove the water from it. Put clean water in the bag to rinse your clothes. You can also rinse the clothes in the sink.
  • Once done! Hang the clothes on a line in the shower area.

How To Iron Clothes On NCL?

Now, once you have washed the clothes, the next big challenge is ironing them. Of course, NCL doesn’t allow guests to bring irons onboard, so how you can overcome this barrier?

Even, the portable handheld irons and streamer, are banned, too. Such items are considered a fire hazard. Don’t make a mistake to bring your iron onboard. During security checkups, the cruise line can hold your iron.

However, guests can borrow an iron from Norwegian Cruise Line. Once the clothes dry, you can ask your steward to borrow the iron for a few hours.

Alternatively, you can deliver your clothes to the laundry room for just ironing, and this will also save you money on washing.

NCL Laundry Policies And Procedures

Almost all the Norwegian cruise fleets offer laundry services, and they have some policies and procedures; using that, you can deliver your clothes for laundry.

  • First, guests have to fill out the laundry form in the stateroom.
  • Guests have to put all the laundry in a bag.
  • The steward will pick up your laundry from your stateroom and deliver it to the laundry room.
  • Your laundry will be returned the next day; use express service to get the delivery on the same day.
  • Keep in mind that you have to pay extra charges for silk clothes because all silk items will be washed separately.
  • The NCL will not be responsible for the discoloration of your clothes.
  • I suggest you don’t deliver your expensive clothes for this laundry service.

Final Thoughts

The pricing for laundry on Norwegian Cruise Line is on the higher side.

I suggest you wash your undergarments or socks in the cruise cabin. If you have more clothes to launder, use the bundle laundry bag offer to save money.

If you’re in a hurry or need your dress for shore excursions the next day, just go for laundry service.

Does NCL Offer self-laundry service?

No, Norwegian Cruise Line doesn’t offer any self-laundry service. But NCL offers a laundry service, and you must pay for your garments to get laundered. To save the bucks, you can wash your clothes in the stateroom’s sink and hang them on the line in the shower area.

How much does it cost to do laundry on Norwegian Cruise Line?

The cost of laundry on a Norwegian cruise will depend on the garment type. They will charge $4.95 for shorts, $7.95 for jeans, and $8.95 for skirts. Similarly, you have to pay extra bucks for ironing.

When will NCL deliver laundered clothes to my stateroom?

The Norwegian cruise line has a very quick laundry service. If you deliver the clothes before noon, they will return it before evening. The express service is also available for rapid service.

Additionally, consider packing enough clothing items to minimize the need for frequent laundry services.

Best Time to Do Laundry

To avoid crowded laundry facilities, it’s advisable to plan your laundry activities during off-peak hours. Typically, early mornings or late evenings can be quieter periods, allowing you to complete your laundry without any hassle. Consult the ship’s daily newsletter for information on the best times to utilize the laundry facilities.

Extra Tips for a Hassle-Free Laundry Experience

To ensure a hassle-free laundry experience, make sure you have all the necessary items with you when using the laundry facilities. Bring your own detergent and fabric softener sheets if you prefer to use specific brands or scents. It’s also helpful to bring along a laundry bag to transport your items to and from the facilities. Lastly, be considerate of other guests by promptly removing your laundry from machines once the cycle is complete.

Everything you need to know about cruise ship laundry services

Kristy Tolley

Editor's Note

Whether you want to pack light for a longer cruise or you're traveling with little ones who tend to be a bit messy, you might need to wash clothes during your cruise vacation.

Some cruise lines offer self-service launderette facilities for guests to do their own laundry. They often include two or three washers and dryers, as well as vending machines with detergent and fabric softener for purchase.

When it comes to for-fee, valet-type laundry services, your cabin steward will usually handle it, and prices vary by line. Cruise lines often provide a price chart; look for the list and bag hanging in your cabin's closet or in one of the vanity drawers.

Additionally, some cruise lines like Windstar , Paul Gauguin Cruises and Royal Caribbean International offer various laundry packages for the length of your cruise.

Luxury cruise lines like Regent Seven Seas Cruises , Scenic Luxury Cruises & Tours and Oceania Cruises provide either free self-service laundry facilities or complimentary valet laundry services. We don't usually use laundry services on a ship, but we are booked for a 14 day cruise on the Jade, so we would use it on that cruise. Does NCL offer a deal of any kind for laundry service. RCCL does by the bag one time, but I'm not familiar with NCL's policy. Thank you in advance.

Just to clarify: you get one free bag, at any time you want. No need to wait for the “deal” day.

Bring some no residue masking/painters tape ... Useful for patching the very thin fragile paper laundry bag which inevitably will  tear, and so you can fill it up to the max and seal it up. Also useful for pinning notes for the steward or significant other.

It's a simple trick that many others have followed & used successfully over the years - ask the room steward for an extra pillowcase, as the inner liner for that large, thin paper laundry bag ... forget about taping over it as it's not going to break.  Do an itemized count on the laundry slip, be sure to write your cabin # and name (and, if you are Platinum - for the free bag of wash & fold) - kindly alert your steward to pick it up early.  S/he can sometimes get it back to you sooner than promised.  Roll & stuff the smaller items into the 2 tiny corners in the bottom, and I usually use a t-shirt as a flap to fold over on the top end of the bag as a seal to close it.

It will be returned to you, in a wicker basket, folded - unless you indicated hangers otherwise. All the items will have a small alpha-numeric laundry tags, hiding somewhere, that they use to keep track of the different batches washed & for sorted them for proper return.  Typically, we disembark with at least 1/3 to 1/2 rollerboard of fresh clothes, ready for the next journey.

“Hiding” is right!  And they are tiny. I’ve sometimes found them long after the cruise is over. Always makes me smile.

Haha

The Traveling Man

I usually try to double-bag so we can squeeze in the most.  Post-Covid the price has gone up.  We're Platinum Plus so it's free for us, but I think the "deal" is now $25.

And beware those small ID tags - they itch - they bite - they irritate and they are always in

the best position to be annoying - waist band - collar - hem of a shirt or dress.

And they are a devil to remove from some fabrics but they do keep things together and

from getting lost.

Interesting if taking the BST (Behind Scenes Tour) the laundry operation and how the

personal things are taken care of.

We're still finding them nearly two years after out last cruise.  🙂

I found one from the January 2020 Gem not that long ago.  It's amazing how they get those little tags into the places they do.  ☺️

They must have a guide on where to stick them consistently, to ease post laundry sorting to sort all the items out of the huge dryers ... since the capacity is like 250+ lbs per jumbo load; and this part isn't automated unlike folding & stacking the napkins, towels, sheets & tablecloths, etc.

I found one tag from our 2019 Dawn sailing just last week ... amazing  adhesive, strong but doesn't damage the fabrics or leave any bad residues behind - just don't fall off.

Why go to all that trouble?  Just ask for a Haven laundry bag.  They are made of a plastic type fiber that stretches and is almost impossible to break.

But if you are not in a suite or a Haven ?

Oh you can ask and it might happen - - -

Anyone had success or seen NCL with the new bags ?

I think NCL is finally getting the drift of replacing the paper bags with something more sturdy

and the best part recyclable eliminating paper trash.

Recyclable means that they need to be cleaned and sanitized. The touch labor for crumpling a paper bag and chucking it into the incinerator is far far less than cleaning one of the plastic reusable bags.

Interesting laundry development on the Bliss last month. Laundry was returned per usual in the nice basket, but just a couple of tee shirts on top of the stack were folded, everything under it was in a crumpled bundle (underwear mostly).

In fact, the recommendation for the free laundry people (platinum or club suites), the recommendation is to avoid the “deal” day. We normally do it the day after. More things to stuff in bag and faster turnaround.

I also have noticed that when I have sent in some laundry on "deal" day it came back folded, even though I had specified "on hangers."  When doing laundry on other days, it usually does come back on hangers.  I guess they are just too busy on "deal" day and don't have enough hangers to go around.

About to use our free bag of laundry perk for the first time.  I assume whatever you put in the bag is done in the same load and the temperature is warm.  Does anyone know if that is correct?  Thanks.

17 hours ago, Firstin87 said: About to use our free bag of laundry perk for the first time.  I assume whatever you put in the bag is done in the same load and the temperature is warm.  Does anyone know if that is correct?  Thanks.

The Laundry Department will tag your shirts, trousers, etc with a a code so they can identify them when they come out of the dryer.  Your items may or may not be placed in a single load.  They sometimes separate clothes by color or fabric type.  Your socks, underwear, etc will be placed in a mesh bag and washed together.  The bag also is tagged with a code to identify your room number.  NCL uses cool to warm water and no harsh detergents when washing passenger laundry.  Since you will be getting a free bag of laundry, I assume that you are now a Platinum Latitudes member.  Another perk of Platinum status is a free behind-the-scenes tour on each cruise of a week or more.  Unfortunately, it looks like Covid still will be keeping the BTS tours on hold for now.  Maybe when they resume you will want to take one and see how the ship's laundry operates, up close and personal.

Maybe when they resume you will want to take one and see how the ship's laundry operates, up close and person al.

And while on that BST - time to ASK those questions about how your personal laundry is done.

BST tours are usually done on a SEA day - great when that occurs on the Bag Deal day !

Until that covid is over - will have to resort to the Q & A here are CC.

thank you so much, Traveling Man.  We've been Platinum for quite some time, but have never used the laundry perk before.  With three cruises between now and the end of April, (7, 9, and 10 days), I'll finally use it.

I'm looking forward to being able to do a BRS tour.  Hopefully, that returns soon.

We may use this service on the Bliss, but were wondering if there is a self-service laundry on the ship.  If so, what is the cost?

18 minutes ago, dcassetta said: We may use this service on the Bliss, but were wondering if there is a self-service laundry on the ship.  If so, what is the cost?

NCL does not have self service laundry on board it’s ships. They offer laundry service, usually a special offered one day during cruise. Per bag, regardless how much is in it.   Not sure how much now, used to be about $20-$25 per bag.

@dcassetta  - Short answer, no self-service laundry onboard any of the Norwegian fleet of ships since the mid 2000's, long before the arrival of the mega or *.away class.  But, you always 😉  have a choice with Woolite packets or equivalent for hand washables, delicate & undies at the bathroom sink (double sink in a "club" (mini) balcony suite) - free labor, just get your spouse-mate-partner to do it.

Everything You Need to Know About Laundry on Cruise Ships

Laundry on cruise ship

Laundry on cruise ships makes packing for a cruise much easier. When getting ready for your trip, packing the right clothing is key for a comfortable journey. Many passengers worry about how to handle their laundry needs on board.

For example, knowing about the cruise ship laundry services can really help. If you know you can get your clothing cleaned on the ship, you can pack lighter and still enjoy fresh outfits every day of your trip.

In this article, we cover everything you need to know about doing laundry on cruise ships.

Table of Contents

Is it Possible to do Laundry on a Cruise Ship?

Passengers on cruise ships have several laundry options. Cabins may have small washing machines and dryers on certain decks for a fee. Valet laundry services offer dry cleaning, pressing, and ironing for those preferring professional cleaning.

Additionally, there are facilities with larger washing machines and detergent dispensers for guests who wish to do their own laundry.

1: Wash and Press Services or Dry Cleaning on Cruise Ship

Laundry on Cruise Ships

Each cruise line offers various options to keep your clothing clean. In your stateroom, you will find a laundry bag in the cabin closet, where you can place your clothes for dry cleaning or press service. Housekeeping will collect the bag and return your cleaned items for a fee.

The ship supplies a price list in the cabin closet detailing the prices for each service. This convenient service ensures you always have fresh clothing throughout your journey, avoiding the need to wash clothes yourself.

“Laundry on cruise ships royal caribbean , you can use the laundry service to have a laundry bag of clothes cleaned for $34.99. This service allows you to wash multiple items at once, providing convenience for passengers.”

2: Self Service Laundry on Cruise Ship

Laundry on Cruise Ships

On a cruise ship, having access to self-service laundry is a convenient option for guests. Most cruise ships provide a laundry facility on each deck equipped with washers, dryers, irons, and ironing boards.

These laundry facilities often include laundry detergent machines, making it easy for passengers to handle their own laundry.

For example, on Disney Cruise Line , you simply swipe your Key to the World card. On luxury cruise lines, self-service laundry is often free. Cunard is one of those lines that offers complimentary laundry service.

This way, guests can maintain their clothing during their trip without the need for professional services. Having a self-service laundry option on ships adds a level of convenience that enhances the overall cruise experience.

These laundry rooms are equipped with washing machines to handle the needs of thousands of travelers. To use the facilities, passengers simply swipe their room card to pay for each load of laundry.

This change from traditional payment methods makes the process more convenient and streamlined, allowing guests to easily maintain clean clothes throughout their voyage.

3: Hand Wash Clothes in the Cabin

Laundry on Cruise Ships

Passengers on a cruise ship have several options for doing laundry. They can use the laundry rooms provided on board, which are equipped for different types of laundry needs.

Alternatively, for smaller loads or delicate clothes, they can hand wash items in their cabin using the sink or shower. This room-based approach allows passengers to quickly clean their clothes without leaving their room.

Passengers on cruise ships have convenient options for drying clothes in their cabin. Many cruise lines provide a retractable clothesline in the shower , allowing clothes to dry efficiently. Additionally, those with a balcony in their room can use it to air out their garments.

In their cabin on cruise lines, guests can manage clothes by using a clothes steamer to remove wrinkles. If a steamer isn’t available, crease release spray is a great alternative. This ensures clothes stay fresh and wrinkle-free throughout the trip.

Cruise Line Laundry Services on Cruise Ship

1: carnival cruise line laundry services.

Laundry on Cruise Ships

On a Carnival Cruise Line ship, passengers have various options for handling their laundry needs. The cruise ship laundry facilities include self-service launderettes on different stateroom decks, equipped with washers, dryers, and an ironing board with an iron.

Guests can purchase detergent and softeners from a vending machine for $2.00 per box. For those who prefer not to do their own laundry, a valet service is also available.

These facilities and services ensure that whether you choose to use the self-service launderettes or the valet service, keeping your clothes clean is convenient and straightforward on a Carnival Cruise Line ship.

“Laundry on cruise ships Carnival offers guests the convenient option of using the valet service for their laundry needs. Depending on the cruise length, specials may be available, allowing guests to have a bag size of clothes washed and folded for a price of $15.00 or $20.00.”

This service is particularly useful for longer sailings, ensuring that items are kept clean and fresh throughout the trip. With this fleet-wide service, Carnival makes it easy for guests to maintain their clothes without the hassle of doing their own laundry.

“Carnival’s Excel-class ships, such as the Carnival Celebration, Carnival Jubilee, and Mardi Gras, lack self-service washers and dryers.”

Clean clothes are returned promptly to the cabin, ensuring guests can enjoy their cruise without worrying about laundry. Additionally, yes, they have self-service laundry available for those who prefer to do their own washing on cruise ships.

Is it Allowed to Bring Your Own Laundry Detergent on a Cruise Ship?

Laundry on Cruise Ships

On cruise ships, passengers often have the option to bring their own laundry detergent for washing clothing. While some prefer liquids or washing powder, others might opt for detergents that include fabric softener.

Many people pack too much for a cruise and don’t wear most of what they bring. By planning your outfits and packing only what you need, you can focus more on enjoying your vacation and less on your clothes.

It’s a practical choice for a family or a couple traveling together, as it allows them to maintain their articles of clothing according to their personal preferences.

However, passengers should be aware of any restrictions on bringing liquids onboard. This flexibility ensures that everyone can handle their laundry needs efficiently during their cruise.

How Much Does it Cost to Do Laundry on a Cruise Ship?

Laundry prices differ by cruise line and item. Washing and pressing a men’s shirt or women’s blouse usually costs a few dollars, with dry-cleaning priced slightly higher.

Pressing only might be available for a smaller fee. The cost of doing laundry on a cruise ship is $3.50 USD per load for both the washer and the dryer .

Confirmation email of vaccination appointment will not be accepted.

All guests are advised to monitor and comply with applicable travel restrictions.

Guests can expect to provide the following:

  • Standard travel documents, including passport or any visas as required

We are closely monitoring the evolving global public health environment and to the extent any itineraries are affected, we will notify impacted guests in a timely fashion and update our booking requirements. Additional travel restrictions for certain nationalities or countries may arise based on the quickly evolving public health environment. All guests are strongly advised to monitor current travel requirements and advisories for their home countries.

For additional information, please visit Cruise Travel Requirements by Country .

We will comply with all local regulations at all destinations we visit. These regulations are continuously evolving and if an additional test is required at a port of call we will provide advanced notice to all guests. For additional information, please visit Cruise Travel Requirements by Country .

*Please note, in the event a port included as part of an itinerary requires additional COVID-19 testing in order for guests to disembark, Norwegian Cruise line will facilitate the testing onboard.

All guests are required to accept the terms and conditions in our guest ticket contract. In addition, guests will be required to agree to abide by all of the cruise line's health and safety protocols and acknowledge the risks associated with COVID-19 during their voyage and shoreside experiences. Guests who fail to agree to these terms and conditions will not be permitted to board.

Antigen Tests

COVID-19 antigen tests prior to disembarkation will be administered on board and paid for by the Cruise Line for those guests who require a test to return home.

Effective for all disembarkations beginning January 8, 2022, PCR tests will only be available onboard to confirm a positive antigen test, or to test a symptomatic patient. Those guests requiring a PCR test to return home will be responsible for expense and must obtain the test shoreside after the disembarkation either at a company designated facility, at the airport prior to flying out, or at a nearby clinic of their choice. At all US disembarkation ports, Norwegian Cruise Line has engaged a vendor to administer PCR testing at the terminal for those guests requiring a PCR test to return home. If guests choose this service, the guests will proceed to a designated area in the terminal for their PCR test at the guests' expense which varies by port, then proceed with their travel plans as they await their test results which will be sent electronically approximately 90 minutes after the test.

In non-U.S. ports availability may be available for PCR testing prior to flying home in the terminal, however guests are free to book their PCR test at the airport or a local clinic at their convenience. Please allow the proper time in your travels to obtain the result before flying home.

Estimated PCR test costs by port are as follows:

  • All current US departure ports (except those listed below) - $125 per person
  • New Orleans - $180 per person
  • New York - $250 per person
  • San Juan - $150 per person
  • All current Europe departure ports - $125 per person

We will continue to update as additional services become available.

If a guest booked a post-cruise hotel, it is the responsibility of the guest to make their own arrangements to get re-tested at their own expense.

Italy Disembarkation Testing:

Safety Aboard Our Ships Frequently Asked Questions

Guests who have symptoms of COVID-19 whilst onboard should immediately contact the onboard medical centre for further instruction. Medical centres will be equipped to test for COVID-19 onboard and if a positive case is identified, contact tracing for that individual will begin immediately and occur at the same time as treatment.

We have also enhanced our onboard medical capabilities with additional staffing and enhanced facilities. This includes an increase in intensive care unit capacity, new and upgraded equipment, onshore medical institution partnerships, telemedicine capabilities and additional robust consultation and treatment options. Onboard medical centres are also abundantly stocked with common prescription medications, remedies, and virus-testing equipment as available.

Please note: Anti-viral COVID-19 therapeutics are readily available onboard and will be charged to the guests' account. Whilst the Cruise Line will assist with arranging land-based quarantine accommodations if required, payment for all expenses incurred during any mandatory isolation period, including hotel stay, is the responsibility of the guest. We encourage all guests to file a claim with their travel insurance carrier for reimbursement enquiries. Norwegian Cruise Line will review reimbursement submissions in the event your insurance carrier denies the claim or you do not have travel insurance.

We have improved our onboard medical capabilities with additional staffing directly related to sailing capacity, new and upgraded equipment and enhanced facilities. All vessels will have COVID-19 testing capabilities on board and results onsite. Hi everyone.  For the Club Balcony Suites the website says you get “Complimentary choice of one valet laundry or pressing service”.  What exactly does this mean?  Is it one item or is it a bag of laundry?  Thanks!

We just got off the Jade and had a club Balcony--our cabin steward put a fairly large bag in our room for laundry, we had 8 t-shirts and other undergarments.  Everything was returned two days later.

I saw that the mid week special is 29.99 a bag.  It’s gone up.  I think it was $15 or $20 when I cruised last.  I think that’s high for that small bag.

This Cub Balcony fill-a-bag offer is a 1 day service (dropped off the next night). The standard paid fill-a-bag is 2 day service (dropped off the second night).

That bag holds so much . I was shocked. We still had room.

Do not put anything in that you are even slightly concerned about shrinking. I had 3 items that I can never wear again. And even an old t-shirt that I have had for a while was little snug. But husbands clothes all came out great.

my wife has the uncanny ability to stuff the bag to the gills. we always take advantage of the sales on laundry, and even use the laundry when not on sale. if you are on a longer then 7 day cruise, this almost becomes a must.

never had anything item come back in any lesser shape thenwhen we sent it to be cleaned. they come back, nice and neatly folded in a basket.

Well, to be fair, many cruisers find that their clothes fit a bit snug after a cruise even though they haven't had them laundered.   🤣

We do a couple of bags of laundry on every cruise (and we cruise multiple times a year). We have never had any issues with the care given by the laundry crew. Not even problems with those old t-shirts. All come out perfectly.

Glad you had good luck. My 2 linen pieces are very tiny now. They were brand new and only worn once in Athens. It was a short skirt, now its a micro skirt. While I accept I could have gotten fatter, I certainly didn't grow 5 inches. 😀

Would this be one bag per person or one bag per stateroom?

One per stateroom

You can pay the $29 on the fill-a-bag day if you need another bag.
