Visitors to the UAE can now come to the country on a three-month visa, Khaleej Times can reveal.

A call centre executive at the Federal Authority For Identity, Citizenship, Customs & Port Security (ICP) said that people who want to visit the UAE for 90 days can make use of the opportunity. “They should consult their travel agents who will help them in issuing the 90-days visit visa,” said the call centre executive.

According to industry experts, this visa was introduced by the end of May 2023, allowing visitors to stay in the UAE for up to 90 days. The visa can be extendable within the country at an additional cost based on the service provider.

Residents are not aware of this three-month visa, Libin Varghese, sales director at Rooh Tourism LLC, said.

According to industry experts, this was reintroduced by the end of May 2023, allowing visitors to stay in the UAE for up to 90 days.

Different types of entry permits

“There are two types of entry permits — a tourist visa or a leisure visa and a visit visa. A tourist visa is issued for 30 or 60 days. The visit visa is issued for 90 days,” said Subair Thekepurathvalappil, senior manager for inbound and outbound operations at Regal Tours Worldwide, adding that this extended visit visa complements the existing tourist visa options, which includes a 30-day or 60-day stay, offering travellers greater flexibility in planning their itineraries.

The 30-day and the recently introduced 60-day tourist visas have long been popular among visitors seeking shorter stays in the UAE, providing ample time to explore the country's iconic landmarks and indulge in world-class shopping and dining experiences.

Who can apply?

Industry experts said that anyone can apply for this visa. “Currently, we have not received much inquiry about it, and visitors who prefer this entry permit are their family members residing in the UAE, as they want to spend a longer time. Take for instance, if a child who is studying in his home country visits UAE during vacations or parents of a resident,” said Varghese.

The fee for a 90-day-visit visa varies depending on your issuing travel expert, with a starting price of Dh1,500 and can go up to Dh2,000, which can even be extended within the country. “The exact details of extension has not been announced as the visa was introduced a few days ago,” said Varghese.

Documents required

According to Subair, one must submit the following documents if planning to apply for the long term visit visa:

  • Recent passport-size coloured photograph
  • Passport copy
  • Processing time

“Once a person applies for this visa, it may take up to five working days. But we can even receive it in two days,” said Subair.

Why is qatar introducing a health insurance policy, moph helpline, frequently asked questions.

From 1 February 2023, all visitors to Qatar applying for a visitor’s visa are required to have health insurance policies. This is mandatory for all types of visit visas including Family Visit Visa , GCC Residents Visit Visa , and Visa On Arrival .

According to Qatar Government’s Hukoomi helpline, visitors traveling on an instant visa and staying in Qatar for less than 30 days do not need to obtain Health insurance. However it is highly recommended to have insurance as it can be helpful in case of an emergency.

GCC citizens are exempted from the mandatory health insurance while entering Qatar.

Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) has outlined the following for visitors needing emergency medical treatment:

  • Mandatory Insurance: To receive emergency treatment, visitors must have the required insurance. The condition must be classified as a medical emergency to be covered under this scheme.
  • Uncertain Cases: If unsure whether a condition qualifies as an emergency, visitors should consult the insurance coordination team in the Emergency Department for guidance.
  • Non-Emergency Treatment: If a condition is not classified as an emergency, visitors will need to pay for treatment themselves.
  • Exceeding Coverage: If a medical emergency treatment exceeds the covered amount, additional costs might be covered by private insurance, depending on the policy.
  • Private Insurance: If a condition is not an emergency, Qatar’s Mandatory Visitor Health Insurance Scheme won’t cover it, but private insurance might, based on the policy.
  • Insurance Agreement: If HMC does not have an agreement with a visitor’s insurance company, payment must be made upfront, with reimbursement sought later from the insurance company. If HMC is approved by the insurance company, HMC will bill the insurer directly.

  • Visitors applying for a visit visa online via the Metrash App will be directed to the MOPH website.

  • The Visitor will receive the Health Insurance Policy from the website of the Insurance companies. The policy can be printed, kept and shown when needed.

2. Visitors Eligible For Visa On Arrival

Visitors who are coming to Qatar using Visa On Arrival facility have to purchase the visa in advance from the Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) website (process explained below). To ensure speedy completion of your procedures upon arrival at the various border crossings (airport, land and seaports), visitors are advised to purchase a visitor insurance policy before arriving at the port.

Insurance companies that are approved by the Ministry of Public Health are listed on their website. Visitors can choose any one of the listed insurance companies listed on the website.

Here is the link to the page on the MOPH website.

The registered insurance companies (in alphabetical order) are:

In addition, visitors can obtain additional health insurance policies, and the premiums for these policies will vary depending on the insurance company’s prices.

Health insurance premiums cannot be refunded after the purchase of the policy if the stay duration is less than the period of the visa.

The effective date of coverage is the date of entry of the visitor at any border.

If the visitor wishes to extend his/her stay in the State of Qatar, then he/she must purchase a new health insurance policy. The minimum duration of the visitor’s insurance policy is 30 days, it is not possible to purchase a policy with less than this duration.

The basic visitor insurance policy in case of a single-entry visa expires upon leaving the State of Qatar through any air, sea or land ports.

There is an insurance policy for multiple-entry visas and it remains valid from the date of entry until the policy expires.

Emergency Medical Treatment:

  • Up to QAR 150,000 for the policy period and within the State of Qatar.

Does the policy require any copayment or deductible?

In addition to the listed insurance companies, Qatar MOI may accept some international health insurance companies, subject to the fulfilment of the following conditions and requirements set by the Ministry of Public Health to be accepted for entry visa issuance:

  • To be issued by one of the insurance companies included in the approved list by the Ministry of Public Health.
  • Its geographical coverage includes the State of Qatar.
  • To be valid and cover the period of stay in the country.
  • To cover emergency services and accidents with an annual limit of 150,000 Riyals or more, without deductibles or excesses.
  • To include a QR code.

The policy can be uploaded to the website of the Ministry of Interior or a paper copy to be submitted to the competent officer at the border crossing.

According to MOPH, the health and well-being of visitors are of paramount importance. Therefore the Government has established the necessary regulations to ensure that visitors are protected against accidents and medical emergency-related conditions during their stay.

By implementing a sustainable and effective healthcare system, and by regulating healthcare expenditures, the scheme aims to regulate health insurance and ensure continuous improvements.

In addition to the below, please note that I am unable to pay the visa fee to issue the visa without buying the insurance (Again). Unfortunately I was unaware that the insurance policy needs to be purchased after the visa approval and not before.

please help me in this.

Dear DG, I purchased the QIC Insurance policy while submitting the request for family visit visa. I got the message that my visa request is approved and there is a link to purchase the insurance policy. My concern how do I upload the insurance copy which I already purchased before visa request was approved? The insurance policy starts from 24th April 24 and it is for 3 months. Do I have to buy the insurance policy again or is there a way to upload the policy online in Metrash?

Your prompt response is much appreciated.

Thanks and regards Habeeb

Ready for Qatar? Let's get started!

Can I get a visa on arrival in Qatar?

It's good to know that the Qatari government has changed the term from Visa on Arrival to visa-free entry . However, the entry process is the same. On arrival you'll receive, if eligible, a stamp in your passport that authorizes a short stay for tourism or business.

If you're from one of the countries on this list you can get visa-free entry and don't need to pre-apply for a visa to visit Qatar.

The length of stay varies per nationality and can found in the above list.

Visa-free entry for citizens from GCC countries

Citizens of the following Gulf Cooperation Council countries enjoy freedom of movement in Qatar. They do not require a visa (even a Visa on Arrival) under any circumstances:

  • Saudi Arabia
  • United Arab Emirates

Note: If you’re a resident (not a citizen) of a GCC country, you’re eligible for a single-entry visa on arrival. The visa will only be issued if your residence permit is valid for at least six months. Please approach an immigration counter, present your passport, and pay your visa fee. Your visa will be valid for a one-month stay in Qatar.

Do I need to pay for the Qatar Visa on Arrival?

The Qatar Visa on Arrival is free for most eligible travelers.

The only exceptions are nationals of the following countries, who must pay a fee of QR 100 (about US$27 at the time of writing):

Note that this list can change at any time. To pay the fee, simply make your way to an immigration counter upon arrival in Qatar, and pay by card (some bank fees may apply).

Qatar Visa on Arrival requirements

Make sure to meet the following requirements, in addition to being from an eligible country:

Have a passport that's valid for at least 6 months from the date of arrival in Qatar.

Can show a return or onward flight ticket.

Can present a confirmation for accommodation (hotel or contact details of a local host).

Note: Citizens from Pakistan, India, Thailand, Iran, and Ukraine must book an accommodation via the authorized channel of Discover Qatar for their entire stay. Regular hotel bookings are not accepted to get the Visa on Arrival.

Having (travel) health insurance is recommended, and mandatory for people staying in Qatar longer than 30 days. If that's the case, you must get insurance through the official Qatar website for QR 50 (about US$ 13) per day.

Have proof of enough funds to pay for your trip. Some nationalities are asked upon arrival to show a valid international credit card (such as travelers from Pakistan, Iran, or Thailand) or at least US$1000 in cash.

How to get a Qatar eVisa

If you're not eligible for the Qatar Visa on Arrival , you can apply for the Qatar eVisa instead.

You can apply online via the government website or via iVisa on our user-friendly platform .
