IT’S ON: Red Hot Summer Tour and what you need to know before you go
by Newcastle Live 18 January 2022, 9:52 am
We can confirm, at this stage, that the Red Hot Summer Tour will roll into Roche Estate in the Hunter Valley this Saturday, 22 January .
While there has been speculation that the event would postpone or be cancelled all together the Pokolbin venue has officially stated that the gig is scheduled to go ahead.
Event promoters say that the Red Hot Summer Tour show at Roche is approved to proceed under the NSW Government Public Events Framework.
People who attend the event will be required, as a condition of entry, to comply with any current mandates imposed by the NSW Health Department including sign in via the event’s QR Code at the Point of Entry.
While these requirements may change at any time, we’ve put together a list of some of the things you need to know before you go.
Bring a camp chair or picnic rug
Once you make your way through the gates you’ll be required to remain seated where possible.
So, it’s time to bust out the trusty camping chair or your favourite picnic rug.
And think about comfort, as you’ll be spending a fair amount of your time with your butt firmly planted on whatever you bring.
Bring a mask
When you’re not sitting down enjoying the show, you’ll need to mask up and ensure that you’re wearing it at any point where you can’t socially distance.
Event promoters say that complimentary Face Masks will be available at the First Aid marque on site and there is enough room for patrons to sit comfortably and move around the site with ease.
Leave your dance shoes at home
Cut footloose…. There will be no dancefloor at the event and you’ll need to let Dad that moshing to Jimmy also off the cards.
Bring a gig buddy
You’ll be required to remain in your group for the event, so make sure you find your gig buddy early as “congregations of groups will not be permitted”.

Red Hot Summer Tour 2024 – Series Three
RED HOT SUMMER TOUR is thrilled to announce the next series of dates for the 2024 season from one of Australiaâs most sought-after summer festivals. These iconic outdoor shows will take place in various locations across the country, and for series three, this star studded-line-up will feature SUZI QUATRO taking centre stage, playing with international juggernauts CHEAP TRICK, alongside Aussie favourites Jon Stevens, The Angels, Baby Animals, The Screaming Jets , and Chocolate Starfish .
The undisputed Queen of Rock, SUZI QUATRO, will be returning for her 38th tour of Australia to headline this next series. Audiences have always loved it when she is part of RED HOT SUMMER TOUR. There are few female performers who have a career as successful and versatile as SUZI QUATRO . After decades of accomplishments, itâs no surprise to find out that she has never stopped working in one guise or another, whether it is playing her solo rock show to packed houses, hosting her own show on the BBC Radio 2, performing on the West End or penning hit songs. To date, this enigmatic performer has sold over 55 million records, in fact, for a seven-year period in the 1970s she was featured in the British charts for an incredible 101 weeks. Her hits include âThe Wild Oneâ, â48 Crashâ, âDevil Gate Driveâ, âSheâs in Love with Youâ and âIf You Canât Give Me Loveâ to name a few.
In 2019, the world saw the release of her documentary, SUZI Q , and it topped the Amazon charts around the globe. In August this year, she released âFace To Faceâ, her duet album with KT Tunstall which has had huge success. It picked up âalbum of the yearâ presented by Jools Holland, album of the week on BBC Radio 2 and over half a million plays in the USA. Itâs been critically acclaimed and charted in many countries around the world. This year marks the 50th Anniversary of âCan the Canâ being No. 1 and SUZI will mark the occasion with 5 special shows in the UK.
With over 5,000 performances spanning four decades, 20 million records sold worldwide, and inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, CHEAP TRICK are undoubtedly one of the most influential classic rock groups of the past 50 years.
The band was formed in 1974 and while it has evolved throughout the years, CHEAP TRICK has continued to reach mainstream and critical success. Hits such as âThe Flameâ, âDream Policeâ, âI Want You To Want Me â and â Surrenderâ have cemented the group as one of Americaâs top rock ânâ roll bands of all time. They released their 20th studio album, In Another World, in April 2021.

Jon Stevens is recognised as one of the most talented rock musicians to emerge from Australia in recent memory. He has had phenomenal success as a solo artist, and was also the lead singer of major rock acts Noiseworks, INXS, and Dead Daisies. His career has gone from strength-to-strength: a record-
smashing debut at age 16 with two consecutive No. 1 singles in his New Zealand homeland. He also enjoyed huge hits in Australia as lead singer with Noiseworks. Stevens 21st-century liftoff to worldwide acclaim was at centre stage with INXS, and a song released by Dead Daisies which he co-wrote and produced with the legendary Slash on guitar. Ringo Starr plays the drums on the lonely ballad âOne Way Streetâ and âSomething Bout Youâ features the vocals of Vanessa Amorosi.
Australian rock band Noiseworks released âHeart & Soulâ on August 15th, 2022, as the lead single from their new studio album âEvolutionâ. The single album came as a long-awaited gift to Noiseworks fans who had been thirsting for new music from the iconic rockers for 30 years.
Crowd favourites, The Angels , will see former drummer Nick Norton taking centre stage as their new front man replacing Dave Gleeson after his 12 years in the role. With a set-list of catalogue classics that are ingrained in the hearts of every Australian rock fan, it is no wonder that the famous American critic David Fricke called The Angels âa guaranteed great time anywhereâ.
As Ian McFarlane, the author of The Encyclopedia of Australian Rock and Pop , noted: â The Angels helped re-define the Australian rock tradition.â And now John Brewster, Rick Brewster, Sam Brewster, Tom Brewster and Nick Norton are giving it another twist. Let the night roll on!

Five new dates announced for 2023 Red Hot Summer tour
Ian Moss and Troy Cassar-Daley, Mark Seymour (of Hunters & Collectors fame) and Vika & Linda round out the bill
The regional Red Hot Summer tour has been extended for its 2023 program, with the full itinerary â featuring line-ups topped by Paul Kelly , ex- Powderfinger frontman Bernard Fanning and Missy Higgins â now comprising 25 dates.

Promoters announced the new run of shows yesterday (September 18), adding one-off dates in Western Australia (a gig at the Sandalford winery in the Swan Valley, scheduled for Saturday March 18) and the Northern Territory (at the Botanical Gardens on Saturday May 6), as well as two new dates in Queensland and one in NSW.
The tour will kick off on Saturday January 14 and Sunday 15 in the idyllic Mornington Peninsula in Victoria, with a further four shows in the state spread out across the itinerary. Punters in QLD will also have six opportunities to catch the tour, while those in NSW will have five, South Australians will have four, and Tasmanians will have two.
Tickets for the five new shows will go on sale at 9am local time this Thursday (September 22), with a Ticketmaster pre-sale kicking off at 10am tomorrow (September 20). Find more details on that, and tickets for the other 20 shows, here .
Rounding out the line-up for all but one show â in the QLD town of Southport â will be a joint performance from Ian Moss and Troy Cassar-Daley , plus sets from Mark Seymour (of Hunters & Collectors fame) and Vika & Linda . For that Southport show, Moss will perform solo.
In a press statement, Red Hot Summerâs promotor, Duane McDonald, said: âWe are so excited about this line-up and the regions we will be visiting. The amount of hits produced by these artists is incredible. The tour has always been about taking great music to the regions, and supporting phenomenal Australian artists.
âWe are so grateful to be able to continue to do this, and to share these experiences with all the music fans who continue to turn out year after year. We look forward to seeing everyone this summer.â

McDonaldâs excitement was echoed by many of the artists appearing. In his own statement, Kelly noted that âthe last two years have brought home how precious live music is to us and to those who comeâ, and that he and his band are âgoing to bring it, give our all and play each show as if itâs our last, because you never know whatâs around the cornerâ.
Fanning also riffed on how keen he is to hit the road again, particularly since heâll be visiting some areas of Australia for the first time ever. He said: âI canât wait to get back on the road to do some âproperâ touring after almost three years of dribs and drabs and disruption. A lot of the towns on this run I have NEVER played before in 30 years of touring, so I canât wait to get out there and play stuff from right across my career.â
Higgins, too, noted that âit will be so good to get back on the road and play in so many incredible parts of the countryâ. She continued: âThe past few years have shown us that we canât take anything for granted and being able to tour again will be very special, itâs what I love to do most. Iâm also really looking forward to sharing the stage with such incredible Aussie artists.â
Lastly, Seymour declared the Red Hot Summer tour to be âone of the biggest tours on our national music calendarâ, gushing about how the run âdoes what few other festivals canâ and âgoes to where people live, which is pretty much everywhereâ. He continued: âReaching people matters deeply to me so I really appreciate the opportunity to be part of this fabulous bill in 2023.â

LIVE REVIEW: Red Hot Summer Tour – Series One in the Swan Valley, WA
Sandalford winery, wa - saturday 11th november 2023.
14 November 2023 The Rockpit
The November, Red Hot Summer Tour 2023/4 Perth spectacular was sure to be a memorable day with an exceptional lineup of artists. It seems the team at RHS know what the people want because the punters were there en masse. Merry music lovers entered the Sandalford Winery in droves ready for a jam-packed day of entertainment.
I completely misjudged the length of time it would take to drive from my home to my spot on the lawn. Traffic was at a standstill and parking was a challenge, obviously an indication of a mighty good line up and that people were keen to get there early. There was a one hour wait to move a few kilometres and sadly by the time I arrived, I completely missed Sam & Sam while Mahalia Barnes and the Soulmates set was nearly finished. Word on the street was Mahalia was amazing. A few sound issues, but she soldiered on and continued to perform while technical difficulties were ironed out. From the carpark, she was on point. Iâm really disappointed I missed her.
Kasey Chambers was welcomed on stage under a clear blue sky. Settling into a song list of well-loved hits, Chambers opened with Barricades and Brickwalls . Instantly, the crowd was abuzz, singing along and raising the energy at the front of stage. Pretty Enough was song two, prompting some great crowd participation. Chambersâ commented how wonderful it was to see a big, burly, bearded man singing along with great gusto! She also noted how much sheâs grown since she wrote this song. Now rather than asking if sheâs not pretty enough, she doesnât actually give a fuck. We all cheered, hooray!
Country folk story telling music followed with a tonne of soul. A Chamberfied version of Eminemâs Lose Yourself was a standout. Arguably, Chambersâ most beloved song, The Captain , saw her bring her two sons on stage to perform. A beautiful moment for Chambers and her fans. A very talented family to be sure! Chambers finished with Weâre All Gonna Die Some Day , a perfect way to set up a foot tappinâ procession to the bar.
Ever-attractive, Pete Murray picked up the baton, entering the stage with his guitar and band opening with Always a Winner . Peteâs trademark laid back style was the perfect accompaniment for a 29-degree Perth day with a few coldies, camp chairs and nibbles. Bail Me Out and Opportunity followed, while punters sang and danced at front of stage. A tight, well received set from the get-go, Pete continued to warm up the crowd, like only he can. Smooth tones, great music and endless sunshine.
By this stage, the RHST was living up to its name with some red hot burnt faces, backs and necks. For a lot of the audience, the only shade they had seen all day was from the intermittent shadowing from a descending airbus overhead. The Perth flight path happens to be over Sandalford Winery! Pete finished with Tonic and Better Days . The latter most likely an appropriate song for punters at the end of the night. Mr Murray was a delight for all. Also, has anybody seen Pete on the cover of Menâs Health? You should google it.
Props to RHST for their event model, allowing fans to enter and exit front of stage with a huge area for dancing and getting up close to their favourite artists. None of this pay to be upfront business. Itâs a huge draw card for many people and makes for amazing energy front of stage. Tremendous value at $140 per ticket with hours of next level entertainment. Sink into a cosy camp chair or lose yourself dancing in the pit. I love it.
Obvious crowd favourites, The Living End, exploded onto the stage like an atom bomb. Hold onto your wide-brimmed hats and wine glasses people! Opening with I Canât Give You What I Havenât Got, the perfect paced song before thrusting the crowd into Second Solution taking it from one hundred to one thousand in one second. Much jumping, singing, dancing and general happiness ensued.
Punters lapped up the trioâs all or nothing, power packed, hard-hitting set with absolutely no breathing space. Stand out songs Pictures In The Mirror, West End Riot and of course, the grand finale, Prisoner of Society .
It wouldnât be a true Living End gig without stage antics, including Cheney playing his guitar with a stubbie (then drinking complete stubbie), double bass acrobatics and much finger pointing. Catchy songs, grit and pure energy on stage. The guys were all feeling the heat, performing in the hottest part of the day and Cheney did comment if he was to die on stage, heâd be happy with that. Heâd get buried next to Bon Scott in Fremantle and we could all visit him on Australia Day!
Itâs true, these guys just keep getting better. There were technical issues with Cheneyâs sound which he gallantly pushed through as best he could but ask anyone who witnessed this set and theyâll tell you they didnât care. The band was on fire. Watching the punters return to their seats from the pit was a joy. Energised, laughing arm in arm, huge smiles â it is exactly what live music is all about!
With the crowd warmed up to its fullest, WA boys, Birds of Tokyo hit the stage while the sun was nestling behind the trees. Punters could sense the band were genuinely excited to be playing their iconic music in their hometown. BOT big stadium sound boomed across the lawn opening with Smith Street and Plans . Â Anchor and Two of Us followed, with front man, Ian Kennyâs voice in fine form.
Punters relished in the cooler temperatures as daylight faded and we enjoyed the stage lighting to itâs fullest. Kenny proudly announced theyâd be debuting their new single, Lion , live for the first time to a home crowd, and it didnât disappoint. Fans and punters alike, truly appreciated the sentiment as BOT delivered their newest baby for us all to see and take in.
Stand out moment of the night for BOT was undoubtedly Lanterns , as the rolling lawns were lit up by the lights from mobile phones of the crowd, swaying in the evening breeze. A magical moment for everybody, united in song. Beautiful vibrations all around. BOT were the perfect addition to an already amazing lineup.
We were all rewarded with a 30-minute break before the master himself, Jimmy Barnes hit the stage. If you were hoping to be down the front for this performance you would have had to skip the restroom visit. You did not want to lose position in the pit! Another case of everybody already knowing what they were in for. Always standing room only for Jimmy. He knows how to work the stage and we love him for it.
Jimmy had posted on his socials before visiting WA, he was working on a set list with a few songs thrown in, that he hadnât played in a while. Itâs always great to hear the songs you know and die-hard fans always remember if theyâve heard a particular song live or not. Hopefully Jimmyâs set list ticked a few boxes for those of you whoâve seen him many times! Itâs great that Jimmy appreciates it too.
Onstage with his beloved Jane and his family seeâs Barnes at his best. Opening with Flesh and Blood followed up by Iâd Die to Be With You Tonight and Wheels in Motion . Punters singing along with every word. Jimmy Barnes under the stars belting out his greatest hits. How lucky we all were to witness it.
Without noting the entire set list, my stand outs Lay Down Your Guns, Ride The Night Away, Love is Enough and Driving Wheels . The ultimate being everybodyâs anthem of choice, Flame Trees. Oh Perth, you were in fine voice on this beautiful evening. Tingles as we all sang with such heart!
A phenomenal day and evening of live music. No better way to spend a sunny Saturday at Sandalford Winery. If someone could beam me out of the carpark and home in a second at the end of the night it would be even better.
Celebrating and enjoying live music in beautiful surrounds with friends and family is a real privilege certainly not lost on the people who attended. Thank you RHST team and extended teams, contractors and artists for creating and delivering an exceptional day of music. We truly appreciate your dedication, commitment and delivery. Cheers and see you next year!

Red Hot Summer Tour Announcement
December 21, 2023 • No Comments • News
With Jimmy Barnes currently recovering from open heart surgery and unable to perform at the Red Hot Summer Tour shows at Kiama Showground (NSW) on Saturday 6 January, Mornington Racecourse (VIC) on Saturday 13 January and Mary Ann Reserve in Mannum (SA), weâre thrilled to announce the expanded line ups for these already star-studded events. These three concerts in summer holiday destinations are remaining on the planned dates to minimize inconvenience to all the visitors who have already bought tickets.
Jon Stevens will be added to the three shows performing a set of Noiseworks and INXS hits, together with The Living End, Birds of Tokyo, Pete Murray, Kasey Chambers and Sam + Sam.
Closing the shows will be Jimmyâs whole live band fronted by Mahalia Barnes and featuring Oz Rock royalty: Jon Stevens, Chris Cheney, David Campbell (Mannum only) and his legendary Cold Chisel bandmate, Ian Moss, performing a very special set of classic songs by Cold Chisel and Jimmy Barnes, compiled by Jimmy himself.
The three Red Hot Summer Tour shows currently scheduled for February will be moved to April to give Jimmy time to fully recover. Those new dates are Saturday 6 April at Roche Estate in the Hunter Valley (NSW), Saturday 13 April at the Launceston Country Club in Tasmania and Saturday, 27 April at the Bendigo Jockey Club (VIC).
Unfortunately, despite all our efforts to reschedule the show in Batemans Bay currently slated for Saturday 27 January, this event will not be going ahead due to the artistsâ availabilities. Ticket holders will be contacted directly by Ticketmaster and provided with a full refund.
Jimmy said, âItâs been an eventful few weeks to say the least but one thing thatâs put a big smile on my face are the mates I have around me who have my back. Thank you so much to my dear friends Mossy, Jon and Chris who will be joining my wonderful, powerhouse of a daughter to perform special, unique shows for you in January with my live band. In my home state of South Australia, my son David Campbell will also join them on stage to round out this amazing supergroup of family and friends. Iâm a lucky guy.
âIâm going to be working hard to get back to full strength over the next few months so I can get back on stage for you in April and join my friends from The Living End and Birds of Tokyo as well as Pete, Kasey and Mahalia & The Soul Mates on stage in the Hunter Valley, Launceston and Bendigo.â

Live Review: Red Hot Summer Tour 2024 in Perth – Simple Minds, ICEHOUSE and Bachelor Girl in Concert
21 February 2024 at Kings Park, Perth Western Australia
Review by Sheldon Ang
Photography by Sheldon Ang Photography
Like in a scene of the 80âs, the performer is spellbindingly animated, carving through the dancefloor with moves that would make excite a yoga through the bending and stretching on stage. Age is just a number; so they say, and he proves them right; he bends his back like a limbo kid, then resting his back on the stage as he sings the crescendo. As he reaches the end of the high notes, he flips back to his feet, taking off from 1985 in a scene from The Breakfast Club. Molly Ringwall would be chuff. He urges the crowd to sing alongâŠthen in ItalianâŠin FrenchâŠin AustralianâŠso it goes on and on as they say, la la la laâŠla la la laâŠla la la laâŠfor five minutes and a few seconds. The timeless sentiments fused into a time machine that exploded. It was the anthem for many audience here. It was a masterpiece and still is one of the most exciting bangers in the living rooms as itâs in the clubs.
The iconic track, the seminal song that launched Simple Minds as a global sensation is far from a one hit wonder. The band have travel the globe on the back of over 20 albums that have peaked within Top 40 in the UK Album charts, with similar success In the UK Singles Chart. The band from Glasgow have enjoyed similar commercial success particularly in Australia as he acknowledged âAustralia is the first international country that gave us successâ
The evening sparked with Bachelor Girl. Formed in 1992 by Tania Doko and James Roche, they provided the entertainment and impressive guest slots for the likes of Eurythmics, Goo Goo Dolls and now they can include Simple Minds into their resume. For those who are here purely for ICEHOUSE and Simple Minds, they would realise that Bachelor Girl had many memorable hits such as Buses and Trains (the ‘Hey Mum..why didnât you tell meâ song) and Permission to Shine. Also added was The Motelâs Total Control (this writer got excited hoping it would be Only The Lonely). Tania weaved her hair like a model in a shampoo ad, as the fiery defied gravity. The energy was set.
ICEHOUSE further thawed the night with the track ICEHOUSE under the stars of the spectacular summer night at King Park and the Botanical Garden. When Electric Blue echoed across the lawn by the third track, the night transformed into the biggest karaoke spectacle of the Great Southern Land. Then this,
You’ve gotta be crazy, babyâŠTo want a guy like me âŠyou’ve gotta be out of your mindâŠCrazy , Well it must be some kind of mistake, to fall in love with meâŠ
The nostalgic montage on the big screen capturing the music video of the young Iva Davies in his mullet-esque days drove the fans deeper into the primary and high school realms, while enjoying the exhibition of a Sydney boy larrikinism who had a dreamâŠand still living the fantasy over four decades on. The nostalgia surfaced – the live music, the video â all sparking the burning memory from the yesteryear as Iva Davies took us through the journey of our lives.
The rhythm guitarist Paul Gildea was arguably the supporting actor of the night. The sax by Hugo Lee was eye catching. Standing before the screen, his silhouette glued to the raised saxophone was breathtaking, carving a statuesque figurine instilled in the minds of many for some time.
The unofficial anthem Great Southern Land got the fans onto their feet, with a picture of Ayers Rock on the big screen, but one notable absentee was Michael Payntor, who would have sung the marquee track Man of Colours. But with accompaniments such as as Hey Little Girl, We Can Get Together, No Promises, and many more the fans were willing to forgive the void.
With the two original members remaining for Simple Minds , it didnât matter. For one â Jim Kerr remains as the lead vocalist since the bandâs inception , with the energy, charisma and motion from the 1985 video remaining intact. Lead lead vocalist supported by guitarist Charlie Burchill who has been with Simple Minds since their discovery in 1977. Secondly, the band is injected by the high end fuel of diverse, energetic musicians with vocal powerhouse Sarah Brown, reaching notes of the likes of Adele and Lizzo, and drummer Cherisse Osei who wouldâve given goose bumps to the likes of Travis Barker. The benchmark was set from the first track (song).
Jim Kerr despite lookingâŠwell forty years more matured from their haydays, was rejuvenated on stage. Like a fencing student his feet weaved, and punching the air like a 80âs rockstar in a We Will Rock You musical. He swung the mic stand through a series of revolution. And lying on stage he did, like a true rocker. Jim knows the art of connecting with the crowd, where he regularly squads and sings for the crowd. The performances within the first few songs had set the benchmark for the rest of the night.
âFor those who have been living under the rock and donât know us, well weâre a new and upcoming bandâ.
Kerr did an extended version of Belfast Child, the sound of the pipes and Scotland resonated across the town. Silence cast over the grounds in the first half as drums and guitar kicked in in the second in a beautiful arrangement. Someone Somewhere, Alive and Kicking and All the Things She Said were performed with the same gusto as others
Simple Minds are more than Donât You. As the night progressed, it became obvious that they are far from a One Hit Wonder.
