Stephen Boyd, SB Events

Stephen has always wanted to have his own travel business, and when the opportunity presented itself, he took it. Now, It gives him great pleasure to know  that he makes a difference in assisting people in accomplishing their travel goals. As a frequent traveler, Stephen became disillusioned with trying to find good deals that did not break the bank.

"I started SB Events because I was tired of spending my hard earned money for trips and not getting what I felt was my money's worth. In 2009 I decided to start my own company to assist people who wanted more bang for their buck."

Since then, SB Events has helped thousands to meet their travel needs, while offering exciting events to popular venues both home and abroad. We look forward to meeting you and your group and helping you define your travel and entertainment needs.

Kristjaan Speakman: Why Sunderland might not realise what they had until it's gone

“Rumours about Kristjaan Speakman departing the club this summer could change how Sunderland operates - should we be pleased he may soon leave?” asks Paddy Hollis.

Share All sharing options for: Kristjaan Speakman: Why Sunderland might not realise what they had until it's gone

The summer is going to be one of change for Sunderland. A new head coach will soon arrive and there will be another turnover of players. One man who has now been linked with a move away from Wearside is sporting director Kristjaan Speakman with Lyon a speculated destination.

Speakman has been subject to criticism this season for his lead on recruitment and how we’ve taken one step forward and arguably more than two back. Every defeat has been met with fans voicing their anger towards him on social media, and to a much lesser extent at games.

The debate over whether or not we’d be better off without Speakman is an interesting one. Before this season, he had built up a lot of good credit with Sunderland fans having pieced together a squad that finally got us out of the third tier and then added to that to get a top-six finish in the Championship.

Sunderland Unveil New Signing Romaine Mundle

With this as evidence, Speakman is good at what he does. He is often criticised for a sense of arrogance and the lack of a senior striker in the last three windows could easily end up being his downfall, but he has done a lot of good.

What has and will continue to bite Speakman in the backside is comments this season about challenging for promotion and having an ‘obsession with progression’. Losing 21 matches with only five wins this calendar year is relegation form, and it’s only a good start to the season under Tony Mowbray who has made sure we haven’t been in a relegation fight.

The recruitment of the last three transfer windows has become a rod to beat Speakman with, and head coach decisions haven’t helped him. We were told that Michael Beale was our top target, despite the club seeming pretty open about wanting Will Still. What followed was perhaps the most depressing managerial reign this club has seen in some years.

New Sunderland Manager Press Conference

Beale was never, ever going to work out at this club- and thankfully this mistake was rectified within six weeks but the reality is, it was a six-week period that helped to light the fire that engulfed the rest of our season, and why we are limping towards the finish line in shambolic fashion.

Kritjaan Speakman has done a lot of good for this club, and most of the players signed under his watch have shown promise and contributed to the side. It’s no fluke that he oversaw good transfer windows, but this doesn’t excuse the huge gaps that have been left in more recent windows.

Weighing up the pros and cons of Speakman’s work at Sunderland could be a minefield, but I honestly think we may regret moving him on if we do so. The basis of a good side is there, and Speakman has shown that he can get things right and maybe one more summer to rectify what has gone wrong this season is called for. I fully expect Speakman to move on at some point and likely be a success, and we would once again be made to look just a bit daft.

Ukraine Drones Target Two Refineries, Airfield in Russia's Krasnodar Region, Kyiv Source Says

Ukraine Drones Target Two Refineries, Airfield in Russia's Krasnodar Region, Kyiv Source Says

KYIV (Reuters) - Ukraine attacked the Ilsky and Slavyansk oil refineries in Russia's Krasnodar region with drones early on Saturday, causing fires at the facilities, a Ukrainian intelligence source told Reuters.

The attack was conducted by the SBU security service, the source said. Ukrainian drones also targeted the Kushchevsk military airfield in the same region overnight, the source added.

Several social media videos showed the damage, the source said.

Reuters could not verify the videos, which showed massive flames rising into dark skies.

"The SBU continues to target military and infrastructure facilities behind enemy lines effectively," the source said.

With Russia's invasion now in its third year, Ukraine has stepped up its attacks on Russian oil and energy facilities using long-range drones.

Kyiv officials have said they consider oil refineries legitimate targets, despite calls from foreign allies to halt strikes in order to avoid Russian retaliation and hikes in global oil prices.

Local authorities in Russia said the oil refinery in Krasnodar region suspended its operations after the drone attack.

Roman Siniagovskyi, head of the Russian Slavyansk administrative district, said on the Telegram messaging app that there were nine attacks on the storage tank farm and the distillation column, a key piece of equipment in the refining process.

9 Places to See the Summer Olympics Without Setting Foot in Paris

You may have trouble finding accommodations or tickets to events in Paris, but other destinations around France are hosting sports like soccer, sailing, basketball and surfing.

The stone buildings of a Marseille, France, situated next to a port filled with sailboats. A hill rises in the background, and there is a church with a tall spire on top. The whole scene is bathed in rose-colored light.

By Sophie Stuber

For sports fans, Paris will be the center of the universe this summer — and with 15 million Olympic and Paralympic visitors expected, it will feel like it, with crowds and high prices. But Paris isn’t the only Olympic site in France: Nine destinations outside the metro region are also hosting events, giving travelers a way to catch some action without getting caught up in the crush.

In places like Bordeaux, Marseille and even Tahiti, you can watch top athletes compete in soccer, basketball, sailing and surfing. (Tickets have been added in batches, so if the ones you want aren’t available, keep checking the ticketing site, tickets.Paris2024.org . If all else fails, the official resale platform opens on May 15 .)

And when you’re not watching sports, you can take advantage of museums, parks, design centers, and fresh food and wine options. In Nantes, you can even ride a mechanical elephant.

Here are some ideas for planning your own alternative Olympic trip.

Basketball: July 27 to Aug. 4; tickets from 50 euros ($54).

Handball: Aug. 6 to 11, tickets from €45.

Start with a stroll around Vieux-Lille and a coffee in the Grande Place, taking in the colorful facades of this city near the Belgian border. Head over to the St.-Sauveur area to see the Art Deco belfry and exhibitions at Gare St.-Sauveur , a former train station. On Sundays, at the rambling Wazemmes market , about 400 vendors offer produce, fish, plants, fabrics, textiles and leather goods. Head out to Parc du Héron , east of the city, to see the LaM museum (€7), with works by the likes of Pablo Picasso, Amedeo Modigliani and Joan Miró. Lille is better known for beer than for wine, and the Brasserie Gobrecht offers brewery tours every Saturday (reservations recommended).

Where to stay: Hotel de la Paix (€354 per night); Hotel Carlton (€406).

Soccer: July 24 to Aug. 2; tickets from €24.

Capital of a region best known for its wine, this small southwestern city sells local wine-walk maps at its tourist office. Stop by the Marché des Capucins , a local indoor market that also houses Bistro Poulette , a slightly chaotic and very delicious spot serving moules-frites, or mussels with fries. In the afternoon, check out the Bassins des Lumières (€15), the largest digital art center in the world, and the Cité du Vin (€21), which offers wine-tasting experiences. To wind down in a quiet wine bar, try Yarra , or for a cocktail, Symbiose . If you have time for side trips, spend a day in St.-Emilion, about 27 miles away, where you can sample great wines. Or check out the nearly 340-foot-high Dune du Pilat , the tallest sand dune in Europe — about 37 miles southwest of Bordeaux, near the beach town of Arcachon.

To stay: Les Chambres de Marie (€170); La Maison Galiène (€259); Yndo Hotel (€355); Le Palais Gallien Hôtel & Spa (€419).

Soccer: July 24 to Aug. 8; tickets from €24.

The street signs in Nantes are in both Breton and French, reflecting the city’s historical ties to Brittany. Start at Talensac Market for picnic supplies, especially radishes, local cheeses and strawberries. Pick up local delicacies like Gâteau Nantais (almond poundcake) and Far Breton (flan with Armanac-soaked prunes). Take your picnic lunch to the courtyard of the Château des Ducs de Bretagne , a medieval castle and museum (courtyard is free; museum is €9). On the Île de Nantes, a former shipyard has been transformed into a wild mechanical theme park. The Machines de l’Île mixes Jules Verne’s stories with Leonardo da Vinci’s designs in the form of a ridable mechanical elephant and sea creatures (€9.50 for the elephant ride or gallery visit). The Mémorial de l’Abolition de l’Esclavage (free) covers Nantes’s history as the most active slave-trading port in 18th-century France. The artists behind the glass-and-concrete memorial, Krzysztof Wodiczko and Julian Bonder , aimed to create “a metaphorical and emotional reminder of the primarily historical, but also very current, struggle for the abolition of slavery.”

To stay: Hotel Voltaire Opéra (€103); Hotel de la Cité (€120).

Châteauroux

Shooting: July 27 to Aug. 5; tickets from €24.

The small city not far from the Loire Valley is named for Château Raoul , the 10th-century castle that’s now part of a local official’s private residence. The best view of the château is from the Gütersloh Bridge. Follow the “coulée verte” — or green corridor — along the banks of the Indre River, stopping by Parc de Belle-Isle , which has a lake for swimming, with kayaks and stand-up paddle boards to rent, as well as a beach, playgrounds and camping. The Franciscan Cordeliers Convent (free), which dates to the 13th century, today offers contemporary art exhibits and miles of gardens, and the Bertrand Museum (free), a former 18th-century townhouse, showcases diverse collections in each of its 26 rooms, including the plaster original of the Camille Claudel sculpture “Sakuntala.”

To stay: Au Lys Blanc (€138); Les Rives du Château (€210 for a two-bedroom apartment).

Lyon and St.-Étienne

Soccer: Lyon, July 24 to Aug. 9; tickets from €24. St.-Étienne, July 24 to 31; tickets from €24.

It will be easy to catch soccer matches in either Lyon or St.-Étienne, only an hour apart by train or car in east-central France. In Lyon, often called the gastronomic capital of France, visit the majestic Notre-Dame de Fourvière Basilica , then savor an ice cream at La Fabrique Givrée . Explore the city’s network of covered passageways, called traboules — originally for workers to transport textiles and later used during World War II by the French Resistance for clandestine meetings. Then climb up to the Pentes de la Croix-Rousse neighborhood, with its tiny streets, shops and views of Lyon below. On a clear day, you can even see Mont Blanc. The Lugdunum museum (€7) and the nearby Roman theater (€4) take visitors back to 43 B.C., when Lyon was known as Lugdunum, and La Maison des Canuts (€9.50), covers the city’s history as a capital of silk.

Between Lyon and St.-Étienne, Pilat Regional Natural Park offers more than 900 miles of rocky terrain for hiking and biking, culminating at the summit of 4,700-foot Crêt de la Perdrix , with views of the Alps and Massif Central range.

St.-Étienne, about 40 miles southwest of Lyon, is transforming its historical industrial identity into one of design and innovation. At the heart is the Cité du Design (€4.50), the former site of a weapons factory, which has served as a center for art and research since 2010. The complex, now a key economic force in the city, is open to the public year-round and hosts art and design exhibitions.

To stay in Lyon: Fourvière Hotel (€189); Hôtel du Théâtre (€323).

To stay in St.-Étienne: Le Parc 42 (€113); Le Golf Sauna (€269).

Sailing (including windsurfing, kitesurfing and more): July 28 to Aug. 8; tickets from €24.

Soccer: July 24 to Aug. 6; tickets from €24.

This Mediterranean port city mixes urban grit and natural beauty. Start by visiting Le Panier, the village-like oldest part of the city. Try navettes , a traditional orange flower biscuit, and sample some sardines or panisses , traditional chickpea fries, on a sunny terrace. Detour through the touristy but pleasant Old Port on the way to Mucem (€11), the first major museum dedicated to Mediterranean civilization and cultures. Have a pick-me-up at Deep Coffee Roasters , a specialty roaster tucked away between touristy shops. At sunset, climb up to Cours Julien , a hip neighborhood with beautiful views for your apéro. Don’t miss the Cité Radieuse , a UNESCO-listed apartment complex that shows off the architect Le Corbusier’s Modernist mastery (you can stay at the hotel in it). And just southeast of the city, the Calanques , a series of small, narrow coves , offer miles of oceanside trails and rocky scrambles along turquoise water.

To stay: Hotel Le Corbusier (€229); Maison Juste (€300).

Soccer: July 24 to 31; tickets from €24.

Summer is peak season in Nice, the queen city of the French Riviera, where the mountains meet the Mediterranean. Run, bike or in-line skate along the Promenade des Anglais , a four-mile seaside path. Then climb up to the Colline du Château , a rocky hill east of the promenade with views of Nice and even as far as the Alps. For a longer walk, follow the trails from Coco Beach to the Cap de Nice along the coves. Then head to Cours Saleya , a pedestrian section of the Old Town, with flower stands, antiques and local food like the socca , a chickpea pancake. The Musée de Préhistoire Terra Amata (€5), constructed on top of an excavation site, reveals what Nice was like up to 400,000 years ago. Or just enjoy one of Nice’s pebbled beaches in a lounge chair.

To stay: Hôtel Rossetti (€186); Yelo Mozart (€238).

Teahupo’o, Tahiti

Surfing: July 27 to 31 ( events could shift through Aug. 4, depending on surf conditions); fan zones free.

For surfing’s second Olympics since its debut in Tokyo, the competition takes place far from mainland France in Tahiti, part of French Polynesia. Since the wave is offshore, there will be two ticket-free fan zones — Taharu’u Beach and Paofai Gardens — to watch the events on large screens. A third fan zone at PK0 beach in Teahupo’o will have free tickets but limited access. Tahiti offers white sands and turquoise lagoons in addition to near-perfect waves. For snorkeling, try the lagoon near Maui Beach , five miles from Teahupo’o. For black volcanic sands, head to Taharu’u Beach, about 20 miles northwest of Teahupo’o. About 45 miles from Teahupo’o, Papeete, the capital of French Polynesia, with a population of about 26,000, offers a variety of local delicacies like poisson cru: raw fish with lime juice and coconut milk, served with rice. Sample local fare, including steak frites and skewered veal heart, from food trucks, called roulettes, at Place Vai’ete, on the waterfront, near the Papeete Market.

To stay: Kia Ora Lodge (€265, seven miles from Teahupo’o); Punatea Village (€73, six miles from Teahupo’o).

Jason Day, AT&T Byron Nelson

The PGA Tour returns to the Lone Star State for the third time this season, as the CJ Cup Byron Nelson takes center stage two weeks before the PGA Championship at Valhalla.

This week’s field does not feature a ton of firepower, with Jordan Spieth being the only player ranked within the top 20 of the world. Defending champion Jason Day , Tom Kim, and Will Zalatoris will also tee it up this week, as will Presidents Cup hopefuls Adam Scott, Si Woo Kim, and Sungjae Im.

TPC Craig Ranch, located north of Dallas in McKinney, will host this tournament for the fourth time. K.H. Lee won it in 2021 and 2022, at 25-under and 26-under, respectively, the first two instances in which this layout held it.

Day won at 23-under last year.

CJ Cup Byron Nelson Odds:

Here are the current odds for players to win, per DraftKings:

  • Jordan Spieth +1400
  • Jason Day +1800
  • Will Zalatoris +2200
  • Si Woo Kim +2200
  • Sungjae Im +2500
  • Alex Noren +2500
  • Adam Scott +2500
  • Tom Hoge +2800
  • Min Woo Lee +2800

CJ Cup Byron Nelson Predictions

TPC Craig Ranch presents one of the easier challenges seen on the PGA Tour, so it's no surprise to see so many birdies on this course year in and year out.

As such, we are looking at players who make birdies in bunches to perform well on this generous layout this week.

Jordan Spieth finishes in the top 5 in his hometown

Jordan Spieth, who has had an up-and-down season thus far, currently ranks 11th on the PGA Tour in total strokes gained and third in birdie or better conversion percentage at 37.54%. This stat takes Spieth’s total number of birdies made this season (134) and divides that by the total number of greens hit (357).

He may play erratic at times, but Spieth has once again relied on his putter to keep himself in the mix on multiple occasions. He obviously has made plenty of birdies, too.

We see him contending again at TPC Craig Ranch, where he finished solo second two years ago and tied for ninth in 2021. We like the Dallas native to finish in the top 5 at +360.

Jordan Spieth, RBC Heritage

Mark Hubbard continues strong play

Thirty-four-year-old Mark Hubbard has not missed a cut in the 12 events he has played this year. He tied for fourth at the rain-shortened AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am , his best individual finish. But Hubbard also finished solo third at last week’s Zurich Classic of New Orleans , alongside Ryan Brehm in the two-man team-play event.

He has played well, partly thanks to his ability to make plenty of birdies. The San Jose State product has made 187 of them this season, which ranks 5th on the PGA Tour. Given that TPC Craig Ranch yields plenty of par-breakers, Hubbard will rely on his solid tee-to-green play to make a ton of birdies this week.

DraftKings has Hubbard listed at +650 to finish within the top 10, but if you feel bullish like we do, +1400 for a top-5 finish is a solid price.

Mark Hubbard, Zurich Classic of New Orleans

Tom Hoge bounces back after missed cut

Widely regarded as one of the best ball-strikers on the PGA Tour, Tom Hoge will contend again this week in the Dallas area.

He missed the cut at last week’s Zurich Classic, but before that, he picked apart Harbour Town Golf Links over the first 36 holes and was in the mix for most of the weekend. A disappointing 2-over 74 final round dropped him a few spots on the leaderboard into a tie for 18th, a result much worse than what his performance indicated.

Hoge has played well in other big events this year, namely in California, where he tied for sixth at Pebble Beach and finished solo eighth at Riviera. He has had a solid year, even though he did not receive an invitation to Augusta National .

Still, Hoge ranks behind only Scottie Scheffler on the PGA Tour in strokes gained: approaching the green. He also ranks second in total birdies made this season with 209. His 4.58 birdies per round ranks ninth on the PGA Tour.

Hoge is a sneaky-good putter as well. During his 39 rounds this season, Hoge has averaged 81.5 feet of putts made per round, good for fifth on the PGA Tour. He has all the pieces to play at the highest level, and considering this week’s weaker field, we like Hoge to finish in the top-5 at +650.

Tom Hoge, Zurich Classic of New Orleans

CJ Cup Byron Nelson Longshot Pick

Since missing the cut at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in mid-March, Adam Schenk has recorded three top-20 finishes, including a tie for fifth at the Valero Texas Open and a tie for 12th at The Masters.

At +5500 to win, we like the idea of Schenk finally breaking through and securing his first PGA Tour victory at that price.

Although he struggles somewhat with his ball striking, Schenk still finds plenty of ways to make birdies, ranking seventh on tour in total birdies made this season. He also makes plenty of putts from inside of 10 feet, an essential part of the winning formula regardless of the course.

Schenk has been trending in the right direction, and considering he did not play at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, he will arrive in Texas well-rested and refreshed.

Adam Schenk, RBC Heritage

CJ Cup Byron Nelson Winner

With the CJ Group taking over the sponsorship naming rights for this year’s tournament, we believe a player represented by this South Korean conglomerate will emerge victorious.

As such, we are picking Si Woo Kim to win his fifth career PGA Tour event this week, his first since the 2023 Sony Open in Hawaii.

Kim has had a solid year, making all 11 cuts while recording five top 20 finishes. His best result came at The Players Championship , where he tied for sixth, while his worst finish came at The Genesis Invitational, where he tied for 44th.

He has a beautiful swing, and the stats reflect that. Kim currently ranks fourth in strokes gained: tee-to-green this season, but his putter has held him back. He is currently 141st on the PGA Tour in strokes gained putting.

Si Woo Kim, RBC Heritage

Still, the Seoul, South Korea native makes plenty of birdies, a necessity on this course. He has made 178 of them this season—good for 11th on the PGA Tour—and has also recorded nine eagles, which ranks fourth. Kim can go low, which explains why he ranks within the top 12 on tour in both adjusted and actual scoring averages.

Kim resides in the Dallas area, so that should surely help him, too.

We love his price at +2200 to win this week. Only Jordan Spieth and Jason Day have shorter odds than Kim, which is a testament to Kim’s talent and the weak field.

Krasnodar, Russia

Tours, Attractions and Things To Do in Krasnodar

Here we are in the South of Russia. Welcome to Krasnodar, a major economic and cultural center of North Caucasus, also called “the capital of Kuban”. Krasnodar, perhaps, is one of the most interesting resort towns of the Russian Federation. It is a relatively young city founded by the Cossacks in в 1793 on the lands granted by Ekaterina II (hence its former name was Ekaterinodar). Later, when the Soviet system rose to power, the city was re-named to Krasnodar in 1920, and it preserved this name up to date.

Krasnodar is a center of the Russia’s southern touristic zone, located of the right bank of the Kuban River, 120-150 km from two warm seas – the Black and the Azov. It is an interesting fact that the city is located in the golden section of the Earth, almost in between the equator and the North Pole, right on the 45th parallel, also called “the Golden Line” or “the Life Line”. There exists an opinion that the living conditions in these latitudes are most favorable for human.

In spite of the city’s “youth” Krasnodar has many historical landmarks, while its architectural look is various and represented by different styles from Baroque and Classicism to late Modern. In Krasnodar, there is one of the largest Russian churches – Saint Catherine’s Cathedral, built as early as in 1914 and survived by a miracle under the Soviet power. It is also worth while visiting the Krasnodar main Orthodox Church – Alexander Nevsky Cathedral. Interesting and dramatic, was the fate of this, one of the Russia’s most beautiful churches, an example of Russian and Byzantine templar style. Alexander Nevsky Military Cathedral was erected in April 1853, but later on, in year 1932 it was blown up by the Communists. And it was not until May 2006 when the inauguration ceremony of Alexander Nevsky Cathedral built anew took place.

Nowadays the Krasnodar architectural variety combines the harmony of old and modern structures. Now, next to the churches there are also modern high-rise buildings (the Marriott Hotel”), shopping and entertainment centers (“Red Square”), modern concert halls (Palace of Arts “Premiere”), restaurants, and night clubs. The city also strikes with its numerous museums, theaters, art galleries. Particularly, if you find yourself in Krasnodar, we recommend you to visit the Krasnodar Regional Art Museum named after F. A. Kovalenko to enjoy a rare collection of Russian avant-garde and Dutch art of XVI century, and also attend concerts of SSAI “Kuban Cossack chorus” to listen to Kuban Cossack, Russian and Ukrainian folk-songs.

Two Krasnodar unusual landmarks enjoy wide popularity among tourists and local community: the Monument to a purse and the Monument to the doggies in love. Do you want to turn round? Then you are to the purse. It is enough to rub your purse over it, and you will have more money. But if you are unlucky in love, then the loving couple of dogs will help you, you should stroke their small paws and love will certainly come to you.

Krasnodar Krai is a region in Southern Russia , bordering Crimea to the west (across the narrow Strait of Kerch), Rostov Oblast to the north, Stavropol Krai to the east, and Georgia and Karachay-Cherkessia to the south.

Adygea , officially the Republic of Adygea , is an autonomous region in Southern Russia completely enclaved within Krasnodar Krai. Adygea is ethnically distinct, as Circassians are about 25% of the population while ethnic Russians represent 60% of it. However, for geographic reasons, we cover this republic along with Krasnodar Krai. Krasnodar Krai offers travelers Russia's premiere beach resorts as well as some of Europe's tallest mountains in its Caucasian south.

Adygea is one of only a few fully enclaved Russian Federation regions (the only other ones are the cities of Moscow and Saint Petersburg ). All its territory is surrounded by Krasnodar Krai.

The most popular months to visit Adygea are September and October in the heart of autumn when the leaves change to vivid colors and the temperature is in the Goldilocks zone.

Talk [ edit ]

Everyone, including ethnic minorities, speaks Russian . Adyghe and Russian are the official languages of Adygea.
