Nomad Serengeti Safari Camp
About Nomad Serengeti Safari Camp
Nomad Serengeti Safari Camp is a classic tented mobile camp for up to 14 guests.
The camp changes location several times a year, broadly following the wildebeest migration around Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park, when hundreds of thousands of animals move through the ecosystem. Nomad Serengeti Safari Camp is a traditional bushcamp, with relatively luxurious comforts and high standards of food and service. There is a lovely balance here between immersing yourself in the wilderness, feeling truly part of the bush, and enjoying a level of luxury that is normally the preserve of a much more upmarket camp. If you want an authentic experience of bush living, while also getting close to the migration action, this would be a great choice.

When to go to Serengeti Migration Area
Our month by month guide: What it's like to visit Nomad Serengeti Camp in Serengeti Migration Area
Tanzania in January
January usually marks the start of the short dry season, although the exact timings of this are a little unpredictable. You can expect clear blue skies and sunshine, if the short rains have stopped, and the temperatures will be building. The short dry season is a little less pronounced in Southern Tanzania, and so it can still be wet in these areas. It is an interesting time for avians as resident birds go into breeding plumage and migrant species can be present. Once the New Year busy period has quietened down, January can offer great value and quieter parks, although the weather can be variable, and in the Selous and Ruaha the wildlife is more dispersed.
- Variable weather: clear & dry or cloudy with some rain.
- Occasional thunderstorms may occur.
- A good time of year for birding as and many migrant species are around
- The wildebeest migration is gathering in the southern Serengeti.
- Busy in early January, quietening down through the month.
A good time to visit, with pros & cons
Weather in January
Tanzania in February
February is during the short dry season and is one of the hottest months in Tanzania, with temperatures reaching around 33°Celsius. This can be a good time to visit, as some areas of the Northern Circuit are comparatively quieter than during the European summer months, and lodge rates are also a little lower. The wildebeest will typically be on the southern plains of the Serengeti for their calving season, which tends to occur in a 2-3 week window in early-mid February – although this does vary year on year. This is also a particularly rewarding time for birdlife, as northern hemisphere migrants join the resident species.
- Hot and dry weather.
- Wildebeest migration calving on Serengeti’s southern plains.
- Ngorongoro Crater and southern Serengeti busy for the migration.
- Selous and Ruaha are typically quiet at this time.
- The parks are likely to be lush and green, leading to pretty landscape
A very good time to visit
Weather in February
Tanzania in March
The heavier ‘long rains’ start in earnest in March although exactly when varies year on year. With no need to stay close to permanent water sources, migratory wildlife disperses, and so game viewing starts to become more challenging. This is most prominently seen in Tarangire National Park. The wildebeest migration may still be calving, or have moved on into the central regions of the Serengeti. Many of the camps in the southern parks close mid March and mobile tented camps in the Serengeti will wind down towards the end of the month in order to move location or carry out refurbishments, ready for the new tourist season.
- Hot with building humidity, before the rains begin at some point.
- Wildlife viewing is variable depending on the start of the rains.
- Parks are quiet and rates are low.
- Not great for southern or western Tanzania.
- March can be a good time for birding, with many migrant species.
Weather in March
Tanzania in April
April is in the middle of the long rainy season and is the wettest month, with on average 250mm of rain. Temperatures are fairly high and humid in comparison to the rest of the year. Expect the bush to be lush and flowering, and alive with insects, birds and smaller animals. It is however also dense, allowing wildlife to hide, which in turn makes game viewing harder. This is a very quiet time in terms of visitor numbers. Many of the tented camps are closed in April, however the larger lodges remain open. The rates are significantly cheaper, and so if you are willing to work harder to spot the bigger game, some accommodation bargains can be had.
- Heavy rain expected, with impressive thunderstorms and lightning.
- Many camps closed and roads impassable due to ground conditions.
- Rates are at their lowest all year round, with very few other tourists
- Places that are open are green and vibrant, wildlife more dispersed.
This is not a great time to visit
Weather in April
Tanzania in May
As Tanzania is close to the equator there is no dramatic difference in climate throughout the year, but temperatures do start to drop a little in May. The rains are likely to still be present, although potentially clearing towards the end of the month. Visitor numbers and lodge rates are still low. The wildebeest migration is making its way through the western regions of the Serengeti, crossing the Grumeti River. Virtually all camps in southern Tanzania remain closed, and many of the roads and tracks in the Selous become impassable.
- Heavy rains and storms are likely, this can create some dramatic skies
- Blissfully quiet in northern Tanzania, and a good time to avoid crowds
- The parks are likely to look lush and green, with long grass.
- Wildlife is likely to be more dispersed, with fewer sightings.
- The low prices make safaris much more affordable at this time.
Weather in May
Tanzania in June
The rains come to an end at some point during the month and migratory wildlife begins to be drawn back to perennial water sources as the land starts to dry up. It’s likely that the parks will still be quite green and the grass high though, so walking and fly-camping may be unlikely. This marks the start of the season with camps reopening, but prices are still more affordable than the subsequent months. The migration may still be in the Western Corridor, or on the move northwards towards the Mara River. Western Tanzania presents more challenging conditions for chimpanzee trekking in Mahale National Park, as the chimps are higher in the mountains.
- A transitory time for the migration – moving from west to north.
- The parks may still be quite green, and grasses high.
- Wildlife may be dispersed still.
- Relatively low visitor numbers and good value, shoulder season prices.
Weather in June
Tanzania in July
July is considered to be the start of the peak season, with no rainfall expected and pleasant daytime temperatures. As the parks dry, the wildlife congregates in fewer areas, grass is eaten and trampled by the migration, and game viewing gets better and better. The wildebeest are typically arriving in the northern Serengeti, ready to begin their period of crossings of the Mara River. In the Selous and Ruaha wildlife sightings can be fantastic, with animals gathering around the lakes and rivers. Great conditions and school holidays mean the parks are at their busiest, with Ngorongoro and the Serengeti particularly crowded.
- Dry and warm daytimes, chilly and windy in the mornings and evenings.
- Great wildlife viewing, as water sources diminish.
- The most popular time of year with very high visitor numbers.
- Prices are at their highest due to the great conditions on the ground.
- To avoid the crowds consider Tanzania’s southern parks.
Fantastic: the very best time to visit
Weather in July
Tanzania in August
August is the middle of the long dry season, with clear skies and sunny weather. You can expect some cooler weather at night and first thing in the morning. Remember to pack layered clothing, so you can wrap up warm on your early morning game drives, but remain comfortable as it heats up throughout the day. August is a very popular time to visit, so accommodation prices are at their highest and advanced booking is necessary. It can get noticeably busier in some of the northern parks – in particular the Ngorongoro Crater and northern Serengeti, as visitors flock to the area in hope of witnessing an exciting migration river crossing.
- Dry and warm daytimes, chilly in the early mornings and evenings.
- General wildlife viewing should be excellent.
- An exciting time of year for the wildebeest migration.
- Certain areas will be very busy and camps fill up fast.
- Great wildlife sightings in the Selous and Ruaha, and fewer people.
Weather in August
Tanzania in September
September can be an excellent time of year to visit Tanzania. As the parks continue to dry up the wildlife becomes increasingly reliant on the remaining water sources, leading to high densities of animals. Whilst early September can be busy, with fewer families traveling at this time the parks typically become quieter as the month goes on. You are still likely to see the wildebeest migration in the northern Serengeti, with river crossings occurring on a regular basis. Tanzania’s southern parks are also fantastic at this time of year, generally receiving far fewer visitors than the north, and wildlife sightings can be great. Prices remain high and the weather generally remains good.
- Wildlife viewing in September can be fantastic.
- Whilst still fairly busy, often the parks are typically a little quiet
- The parks will start to become very dry, with little new vegetation
- Cooler mornings and evenings, warming up during the day.
- Prices remain high.
Weather in September
Tanzania in October
At the tail end of the dry season, the wildlife should be the easiest to spot, although photographers should be aware that it can be a bit dusty at this time of year, as there has been no rain for several months. Great general wildlife viewing throughout as animals are attracted to remaining sources of water. Elephant numbers are particularly high at this time in Tarangire, and Mahale and Katavi are especially rewarding with frequent wildlife sightings close to camp. There is a chance of rainfall towards the end of the month, if the short rains commence. While prices remain high, visitors numbers are significantly lower than in July-August.
- Mostly dry and temperatures comfortably warm, with the chance of storm
- Great game viewing although the landscape can be a bit barren.
- Much lower visitor numbers than the earlier months.
Weather in October
Tanzania in November
In November you can expect the start of the short rains, although the start date varies every year. The rains are highly localised, and are much lighter and more unpredictable than the long rains that occur earlier in the year. These should not really interfere with your safari – as the game viewing at this time is still good - but you should pack a waterproof jacket and be prepared for some short rain showers! The majority of tented camps remain open, but some of the mobile camps in Northern Tanzania will close for the latter half on the month. Given the seasonality, camps are charging shoulder season rates so there are often some bargains to be had. Early November can offer great value for money and the weather conditions are likely to be comparable to late October.
- Parks are comparatively quiet and prices at the lower end.
- Some camps will close towards the end of the month for maintenance.
- Good wildlife sightings, but animals will disperse when rain starts
- The wildebeest migration is on the move and the location unpredictable
Weather in November
Tanzania in December
December is also during the short rainy period, but this does not stop Tanzania being a popular destination to spend the festive period. Be aware that many of the lodges book up early, and charge peak rates over this time. Advanced booking is essential over this period, especially if travelling in larger family groups. Travelling in December outside of the festive period allows travellers to make use of excellent shoulder season rates. Temperatures are pleasant with the averages of 27Celsius, although there is the chance of intermittent thunderstorms.
- Variable weather:clear & dry or cloudy with some rain and thunderstorm
- Good general game viewing in parks with low seasonality - Serengeti.
- Very quiet early in the month, becoming exceptionally busy.
- Prices reflect this – great value rising to the highest they are.
- The wildlife in southern Tanzania is more dispersed.

Tanzania is a sizeable country, having a diverse climate. In general, the long rains start in March to May, and the temperatures are warm and humidity high. From June to October is the lengthy dry season, with short rains coming in November and December. Starting January to February is the short dry season therefore this is yet another great time to visit.
The Wildebeest calving season starts in December up to March. In April to May, the plains are completely dry so the herd starts the journey northwards. Between June and July, the migration herd enters the Western Corridor of Serengeti and must cross River Grumeti with its huge crocodiles. Starting August to November, this migration reaches the grasslands on the bank of River Mara infested with several crocodile which the herds must cross twice, as they finish this migration.

Location of Sayari Camp
The northern Serengeti is one of Africa's most popular safari destinations, and for good reason. From mid-June to November, the great herds of wildebeest gather on the banks of the Mara River in the northern Serengeti, ready to brave the crocodile-infested waters and hungry predators on the other side. Dramatic and exciting game viewing awaits as the wildebeest thunder across in their millions and the northern Serengeti is transformed into a pulsing hub of activity. Sayari, situated near the Tanzanian side of the Mara River, is a great choice for accommodation at this time of year.
Once the migrating herds have travelled back south, experience having these vast plains to yourself, where wildlife is abundant and sightings of lion and cheetah are frequent. You might see elephant, rhino and even leopards lurking in the riverine forests. Birders can spot some of the European migrants that arrive over this season, too.
Blending seamlessly with the outdoors
Sayari has been carefully designed to include two lounges and dining areas. Both blend seamlessly with the outdoors, with large glass sliding doors that allow for uninterrupted views of the rolling Serengeti plains. Both the lounge and dining areas provide a place for you to unwind in nature and enjoy a delicious meal shared with fellow guests. Choose to dine indoors or al fresco, depending on the setting you prefer.
Framed by natural rock formations, the camp’s beautiful infinity pool boasts impressive views of the Serengeti and is the ideal spot to escape the heat and spend a lazy afternoon gazing at the game-filled plains.
A typical day on safari at Sayari Camp
We take advantage of the cooler conditions and head out on game drives in the early mornings and late afternoons. This is when the wildlife, especially predators, are more active. Start the day bright and early with a wake-up call where tea or coffee is delivered to your suite. Enjoy breakfast before you depart for a morning game drive (or have it packed as a picnic to take with you). You'll arrive back at camp late morning, with a chance to freshen up before lunch.
After a leisurely lunch, enjoy siesta time. Take a dip in the pool, unwind with a massage or enjoy some retail therapy in our safari shop. Refuel with afternoon tea, then depart for an afternoon/evening game drive followed by sundowners around a campfire. You'll be back in time for drinks at the bar and dinner under the stars.
If you have booked a private vehicle, your guide will quickly get to know you and your preferences, and you’ll enjoy the convenience of exclusivity and flexibility.
Game drives
Game drives are typically enjoyed twice per day: in the early morning and late afternoon. Our robust, custom-modified 4×4s and highly trained driver-guides cover rough terrain to discover incredible new slices of nature, crossing low rivers and overcoming steep gullies to cruising over vast, open plains. We have closed and open-sided game vehicles specially fitted with charging points for your phone or camera, and fridges for refreshing drinks on the go.
Walking safaris
Experience the thrill of observing Africa's magnificent wildlife on foot while walking through its breathtaking landscapes on a walking safari.
A walking safari offers a unique opportunity to observe and learn about the behaviours of animals in their natural habitat. Accompanied by your knowledgeable guide, you'll have the chance to get close to smaller animals and birds and even discover fascinating insects along the way.
Photographic safaris
Sayari is home to one of our specially modified photographic vehicles. The open vehicle allows keen amateurs and professional photographers alike to shoot at eye level with wildlife. It is equipped with all the gear to ensure award-winning images — from beanbags and camera rests to 360° swivel seats. Please enquire to ensure the availability of the vehicle and confirm any additional fees.
Cultural and community visits
If you'd like to learn more about local Kuria culture , we can take you to the nearby Merenga village. Stop off at the community vegetable gardens — part of a sustainable development programme managed by Asilia — and collect fresh produce for your dinner.
Hot-air balloon safaris
A hot-air balloon safari sees you soaring above the Serengeti plains as the sun rises in the early morning. During migration season, this is a great way to appreciate the full scope of the herds. Hot-air balloon trips are at extra cost and are weather dependent.
Our wellness offerings are specially developed to enhance the well-being of both your body and mind, including massages and treatments that are based on the natural healing methods of local traditions. Join us for a rejuvenating experience at the Asilia Spa at Sayari. A little bit of extra indulgence and pampering compliments any safari trip. Please note that spa treatments are charged at an additional cost.
Join us for a drink at the Serengeti’s first solar-powered microbrewery. The brewery produces four unique beers for Asilia – perfect for safari sundowners! It also has the ability to produce soft drinks, as well as purify water and produce sparkling water using solar power. Our brand-new brewery also means that there is no longer a need to bring plastic bottles and aluminium cans into camp, ultimately reducing our plastic waste as well as our transport impact on the environment.
Library and information centre
Sayari features a library and information centre with a cultural focus on the Kuria tribe. Music is integral to Kuria culture, playing a key role not just in ceremonies and celebrations but also in daily life. There will also be plenty of interesting facts about The Great Migration to be found in our new information centre. The migration passes by Sayari during the months of June through to October, and the camp is in a prime location for witnessing thousands of wildebeest crash across the Mara River as part of their Great Migration.
Family safaris
We welcome families with children over 5 years old.
Sayari has three triple tents that sleep up to three family members each and one family tent that sleeps up to five. Should you require suits for large families please see our Sayari Retreats. Sayari does not have a specific programme for children. For information about booking a private vehicle, please speak to your safari consultant.
Meals and refreshments
We pride ourselves on having a dedicated and innovative team of chefs who enjoy creating interesting and healthy menus of the highest standard.
Breakfast can be received in camp or packed as a bush picnic, with a choice between a continental or a full English. Lunch is prepared as a light buffet with a main course, salads and fresh bread while dinner is a three-course meal with a choice of starters, mains and dessert.
Meals are served as opt-in communal dining and can be enjoyed in the dining areas or al fresco. If you would like some privacy or to dine separately, individual dining can be arranged.
What to expect during the year
The Serengeti is a year-round destination, with great wildlife-viewing opportunities during both the dry and wet seasons. Most tourists arrive in July and August for the famous wildebeest migration herds in the northern Serengeti that can usually be seen until October. With relatively dry conditions and less crowds, January, February, September and October are great months to travel.
Why travel at this time
There’s a break in the rains over January and February, before the long rains begin in March. The migratory birds are in the region and photographic conditions are perfect, with lush grasses and clear skies. There are fewer tourists in the north at this time.
The average high temperature is 27°C/81°F and the average low is around 15°C/59°F. Expect some showers in January and February. The long rains begin in March.
Low temp: 15°C / 59°F
High temp: 27°C / 81°F
Rainfall: 135mm / 5.3in
Sayari is closed throughout April and May. June is dry and a good time to travel, just before peak season. This is when the wildebeest herds begin moving into the north.
June is the start of the dry season. The average high is 25°C/77°F and the low is 14°C/57°F.
Low temp: 14°C / 57°F
High Temp: 25°C / 77°F
Rainfall: 30mm / 1.2in
This is peak season for travellers who want to see the wildebeest herds gathering around the Mara River, which they must cross to reach Kenya’s Masai Mara. The river crossings take place throughout this period, though seeing one is not guaranteed. The dry season is a wonderful time to travel and the conditions are perfect for spotting wildlife.
The high temperatures of the dry season ranges from 24°C/75°F in July to 26°C/79°F in September. The low dip to around 13°C/55°F.
Low temp: 13°C / 55°F
High temp: 25°C / 77°F
Rainfall: 23mm / 0.9in
The Serengeti crowds thin out from late September as the wildebeest herds make their way southward. There’s a chance of seeing the final river crossings in October, as the herds travel back to the Serengeti from the Mara. The short rains replenish the landscape and the migratory birds begin to arrive from Europe and Asia.
The short rains start around late October or November and last for roughly a month. The most rainfall usually occurs in December. The maximum temperature is around 27°C/81°F and the average low is 15°C/59°F.
Rainfall: 43mm / 1.7in
Guest reviews
The staff is phenomenal. Our butler, Hans, went above and beyond to make our stay special. He made us unique craft cocktails every night, did wine pairing during each dinner, and even arranged for a private candlelit dinner on our last night. The game drives were awesome and we loved our guide, Nelson, who led us to so many great animal sightings. Thank you Sayari for an unforgettable trip
Charles and George made sure we felt safe and cared for during our stay. The grounds are so beautiful. The pool overlooks the Serengeti, and we could see and view animals while sitting on our porch or while enjoying the outdoor shower. The food was exceptional and pleasing to both the eye and mouth. I only wish that we couldve stayed longer. Thank you to all staff at Sayari for making us feel warm, welcomed and at home.
This place is incredible!! We had such a great time here, they made us feel like royalty from arrival to departure. I would highly recommend this place! Our tent was clean, food was amazing. Also a massive shout out to our driver Octavian. He was amazing, got us up close to all the animals. Made sure we saw as many animals as possible. Even gave us some amazing camera shot techniques!!

"We stayed here with 5 persons (3 luxury tents) for 3 nights. When we arrived, we were cheerfully greeted by the staff. Starting from this moment, the staff went always the extra mile for us. Even when we were stuck with our safari jeep, the staff came to the rescue and pulled us out. The interior design and the infrastructure of the tents are amazing. We were astonished when they showed us our tents. If you love good food (just like us), you will definitely not be disappointed. The meals are refined, the menu is very well put together. And last but not least, the view... When you wake up or arrive back, you can be greeted by an scenery of wildlife, such as a family of elephants walking by or a giraffe eating from the trees. And all of this in the middle of the Serengeti!"
SofieDD1 through TripAdvisor
"We had an absolutely spectacular honeymoon at Siringit Serengeti Camp. Our vacation was perfect in every way. Here are a few examples: The staff were incredible. They really made the experience as amazing as it was. Frederick and James were our main contacts and helped us with everything we needed, from coffee in the morning to a glass of wine in the evening. On the final night, all of the staff came by at dinner and sang to us and gave us a cake! It was the highlight of our trip and one of our fondest memories. ... Our room was gorgeous. It was a huge tent with a giant bed. The shower was nice and always had hot water. The patio deck area was a delightful place to enjoy coffee or tea in the morning and the view was like nothing you could even imagine. I would recommend the Siringit Serengeti camp to anyone!" Jack Hallemann through TripAdvisor
“What a treasure. Siringit is totally unassuming from the outside and requires traveling a long, bumpy road to get to, but step into any of the beautifully appointed tents and you find comfort, calm and ahhh. The staff is lovely - will do anything for you and with a smile. And the accomodations are lovely - thoughtful touches, comfortable beds, chairs and lounges, beautiful decor. I would have stayed for weeks. The food is thoughtfully prepared, dietary accomodations made, requests met with pleasure. Evenings around the fire pit were fun and relaxing, and time on the tent verandas or in the common living room tent was peaceful with views out over the Serengeti beauty. Truly one of the most lovely places I've ever stayed." Seattlites through TripAdvisor

Serengeti National Park 2024: 10 Ultimate Adventures That Will Ignite Your Wanderlust
Posted: March 15, 2024 | Last updated: March 15, 2024
Serengeti National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site in Tanzania, is a symbol of African wildlife conservation. Known for its vast savannahs, the park is home to the great wildebeest migration and diverse wildlife. This comprehensive guide will lead you through the best experiences Serengeti has to offer, providing insider tips to enhance your journey.
1. The Great Wildebeest Migration
The Great Wildebeest Migration in the Serengeti is an awe-inspiring natural phenomenon, marking one of the most significant wildlife events on the planet. Over a million wildebeest, alongside zebras and gazelles, embark on a relentless journey through the Serengeti ecosystem, driven by ancient instincts to find fresh grazing and water.
This migration is characterized by its sheer scale and the dramatic challenges the migrating herds face, particularly during perilous river crossings where aquatic and terrestrial predators lurk. Witnessing this event provides a profound insight into the unscripted drama of the natural world. As an observer, you are privy to moments of triumph and tragedy, encapsulating the raw essence of survival in the African wilderness.
Insider’s Tip: Opt for a hot-air balloon ride for an unparalleled aerial view of the migration.
When to Travel: The migration is year-round, but river crossings typically occur between July and September.
How to Get There: Fly to Kilimanjaro International Airport, then a domestic flight to Seronera Airstrip in the Serengeti.
2. Predators of the Serengeti
The Serengeti is a stronghold for Africa’s most iconic predators. This vast landscape is a prime setting for observing lions, leopards, cheetahs, and hyenas in their natural habitat. The region of Seronera, in particular, is celebrated for its exceptional predator sightings. Here, you can observe the dynamics of lion prides, the stealth of leopards, and the strategic hunting techniques of cheetahs.
Witnessing these predators in action, whether during a hunt or nurturing their young, offers an unfiltered glimpse into their complex lives. The experience is about the thrill of the sighting and understanding the role these apex predators play in maintaining the ecological balance of the Serengeti.
Insider’s Tip: Early morning game drives offer the best chance to see predators in action.
When to Travel: The dry season (June to October) is best for visibility year-round.
How to Get There: Access is through the Seronera Airstrip, with game drives organized by local lodges.
3. Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area
Adjacent to the Serengeti lies the Ngorongoro Crater, a breathtaking natural wonder. This massive volcanic caldera forms a distinct ecosystem with diverse habitats. It’s home to a dense concentration of wildlife, including the elusive black rhino, herds of wildebeest, zebra, and a healthy population of lions.
The crater floor, with its verdant plains, acacia forests, and soda lakes, offers an unparalleled safari experience. The Ngorongoro Crater is a wildlife retreat and a porthole into the geological history of the Earth, its towering walls providing a backdrop of dramatic landscapes that are both ancient and ever-changing.
Insider’s Tip: Visit in the early morning to avoid crowds and spot nocturnal animals returning from hunting.
When to Travel: Year-round; however, the dry season provides better wildlife viewing.
How to Get There: Drive from Arusha or fly to Lake Manyara Airstrip, followed by a drive to the crater.
4. Birdwatching in the Serengeti
For bird enthusiasts, the Serengeti offers an avian paradise. The park is a habitat for over 500 bird species, ranging from the commonly seen African fish eagles and vultures to the more elusive species like the Kori bustard and Secretary bird. The varied ecosystems within the park – from savannahs to riverine forests – create ideal conditions for birdwatching.
Each area within the Serengeti offers a different birding experience, whether observing migratory birds around the wetlands or spotting endemic species in the dense foliage. The experience is as educational as it is delightful, providing a deeper understanding of avian life and its crucial role in the ecosystem.
Insider’s Tip: Bring a high-quality zoom lens for bird photography.
When to Travel: November to April, during the migratory season.
How to Get There: Fly to Seronera Airstrip and arrange guided birdwatching tours through your lodge.
5. Maasai Cultural Experience
The Maasai people, with their rich cultural heritage, have been an integral part of the Serengeti landscape for centuries. Engaging with the Maasai offers a unique cultural immersion. Visits to Maasai villages allow you to witness their traditional way of life, unchanged for generations.
Participating in a Maasai dance, learning about their pastoral lifestyle, and observing their skilled beadwork provide a rare glimpse into a culture deeply connected to the land and its wildlife. This cultural exchange is about observing and understanding and respecting a way of life that has coexisted with Africa’s wildlife in a delicate balance.
Insider’s Tip: Participate in a traditional Maasai dance or craft-making session.
When to Travel: Year-round.
How to Get There: Most cultural tours are organized by lodges within or near the Serengeti.
6. Serengeti Walking Safaris
Walking safaris in the Serengeti offer a profoundly personal connection with the African bush. Escorted by experienced guides, these safaris allow for close encounters with the diverse flora and fauna of the park. The pace is slower, the senses heightened, and the experience more immersive.
Walking in the footsteps of wildlife, tracking animals, and learning about medicinal plants offer a deeper understanding of the intricate connections within the Serengeti ecosystem. This intimate safari experience transcends the usual game drives, offering a unique perspective of the African wilderness.
Insider’s Tip: Wear comfortable, neutral-colored clothing to blend into the environment
When to Travel: The dry season, for safer walking conditions and better wildlife visibility.
How to Get There: Organize through lodges in Serengeti, with most starting points accessible by vehicle from your accommodation.
7. Luxury Camping
Luxury camping in the Serengeti combines the allure of the wild with the comforts of modern amenities. These camps are strategically located to offer the best wildlife viewing experiences, including being in the path of the great migration. The accommodation ranges from lavish tents with en-suite bathrooms to exclusive lodges with private decks overlooking the savannah.
The experience extends beyond the accommodation, with night drives and bush dinners under the stars, providing an enchanting way to experience the Serengeti’s nocturnal life and its vast, starlit skies.
Insider’s Tip: Book a camp that moves with the migration for a unique experience.
When to Travel: Depends on the migration pattern if following the herds; otherwise, year-round.
How to Get There: Accessible via game drives organized by the camps, usually from the nearest airstrip.
8. Serengeti Balloon Safaris
A hot-air balloon safari in the Serengeti is an experience of a lifetime. Floating silently above the savannah at sunrise, you witness the park from a vantage point like no other. The balloon’s path, dictated by the morning breezes, offers a tranquil and panoramic view of the sprawling Serengeti below.
From this aerial perspective, the scale and beauty of the park are truly appreciated, revealing patterns of movement and life that are invisible from the ground. The flight culminates in a traditional champagne breakfast in the bush, a fitting end to an unforgettable journey.
Insider’s Tip: Book well in advance as these popular safaris have limited capacity.
When to Travel: Year-round, with clearer skies during the dry season.
How to Get There: Most balloon safaris launch near the Seronera region, accessible from nearby lodges.
9. Kopjes Exploration
Kopjes, ancient granite rock formations scattered across the Serengeti, are islands of biodiversity. These outcrops provide various wildlife habitats, including reptiles, birds, and mammals. Exploring these kopjes allows you to observe creatures like agile rock hyraxes, colorful agama lizards, and lions basking on the warm rocks.
The kopjes also offer some of the most picturesque landscapes in the park, with sweeping views of the surrounding plains, making them ideal spots for wildlife observation and photography.
Insider’s Tip: Visit during the late afternoon when animals are more active.
When to Travel: Year-round, with better accessibility during the dry season.
How to Get There: Accessible by game drives from any Serengeti lodge or camp.
10. Photography Workshops
Photography workshops in the Serengeti cater to both amateur and professional photographers. Under the guidance of experienced professionals, these workshops focus on capturing the essence of the Serengeti through the lens.
They provide practical tips on wildlife photography, from mastering light and composition to understanding animal behavior for the perfect shot. These workshops enhance your photography skills and deepen your appreciation of the Serengeti’s landscapes and inhabitants.
Insider’s Tip: Ensure you have extra memory cards and batteries.
When to Travel: Year-round, though the dry season offers better light and visibility.
How to Get There: Workshops are typically arranged by lodges or tour companies in the Serengeti.
The Bottom Line
As you embark on your journey to the Serengeti National Park, embrace the opportunity to connect with nature and wildlife in one of the world’s most iconic landscapes. Your experiences here, whether witnessing the great migration, capturing the perfect photograph, or learning from the Maasai are spectacular moments in travel and allow you to understand and appreciate the delicate balance of our natural world. Remember, your travels contribute to the conservation of this extraordinary ecosystem.

Lodge location Seronera & Central Serengeti
Endless horizons, seas of pale yellow grass and wildlife all around.
Looking for a magical spot with easy access to the splendours of the Serengeti? Let the dedicated staff embrace you with hospitality and become part of the warm Siringit family. At this gorgeous camp, they create forever cherished memories.
At a glance
Solar powered, game drives, luxurious tented rooms, bring the family, stay together, nearest airport, cocktail ready, stay connected, sensational wildlife viewing, foodies be ready, in the midst of the serengeti.
Imagine vast expansive plains with endless horizons, seas of pale yellow grass rippling in the warm breeze, gnarled acacias twisting to the sky and vultures circling on thermals overhead. On this idyllic spot amid the Serengeti is where you will spend your days while staying at Siringit Serengeti Camp. Located near the Seronera Airstrip and just an hour’s drive from Nabi Hill, the gateway to the Serengeti National Park for guests arriving by road. The famous Hippo pool, the Serengeti Research Center and the departure point for balloon safaris are just around the corner.
The energy of the staff at Siringit Serengeti Camp can be infectious as they greet you with huge smiles and a welcoming “Jambo!” The talented chef creates culinary masterpieces from his tent-kitchen. From breakfast with warm oven crisp breads and freshly squeezed juices, to lunch with selected brasserie dishes to the culinary feast for your taste buds at dinner.
The heart of the camp is the well-proportioned, comfortably furnished lounge tent with a covered veranda which boasts stunning views over the Serengeti plains. Here you can enjoy periods of complete rest, spoil yourself with premium wines and spirits, or (Wi-Fi) connect with friends and family at home.
The lovely camp comprises eight luxurious tents, each measuring 45 square metres and including a private veranda. Each tent sits atop a wooden platform and has a generous sleeping area complete with lounge space. An en-suite bathroom with “his and hers” wash-hand basins, large shower and proper flush toilet. A two-bedroomed tent can accommodate a family travelling with small children. The gorgeous tents – perhaps canvassed suite is a better word – are simple yet elegant. They have an in-tent safe, hairdryer, toweling robes, a gas fired heater for use on chilly nights, leather fasteners with brass buckles on windows and doors. Not to mention the great attention to detail like hot water bottles warming your bed at night and freshly brewed mug of coffee to awaken you in the morning. Mix-in sensational views and amazing sunsets from your private deck and you have a recipe for a magical Serengeti experience.
Activities at Siringit Serengeti Camp
Start your day with an early breakfast while you listen to the animal world wake all around you. Jump into one of the camp’s safari vehicles for a complete 360 degree view of the scenery. The guides will go out of their way to ensure your drive is fulfilling, whether you choose the morning or evening experience; elephants, lions, cheetah, buffalo, impala, and a wide range of birds are all likely sightings in this game rich area. You may even catch a leopard eating her kill of the night before. The evening drives, under a canopy of stars, are magical. Or venture out on a balloon safari and feast your eyes upon the majestic Serengeti from above. For those that prefer more down-to-earth approach; birdwatching is excellent at this camp.
Tripadvisor comments Siringit Serengeti Camp
This was the last two nights of our safari and I'll tell you what - we went out with a bang!!! This camp is SPECTACULAR. We had stayed in two other tented camps and BY FAR this was the best accommodations and food. I could have stayed another week! You could never dream of something this spectacular. If your travels take you nearby to Siringit you owe it to yourself and your loved one to stay here. pittbrendat from Pittsburgh, PA
We stayed for two days/nights in this gorgeous tented camp in the heart of the Serengeti. Unbelievably beautiful place where you go to bed, wake up, eat, drink,... like you’re in a dream. The staff is incredibly friendly & the food and choices of beverages are top-notched. As words may not describe the beauty of this camp... arnot505 from Aartselaar, Belgium
First refuelling for Russia’s Akademik Lomonosov floating NPP
!{Model.Description}
The FNPP includes two KLT-40S reactor units. In such reactors, nuclear fuel is not replaced in the same way as in standard NPPs – partial replacement of fuel once every 12-18 months. Instead, once every few years the entire reactor core is replaced with and a full load of fresh fuel.
The KLT-40S reactor cores have a number of advantages compared with standard NPPs. For the first time, a cassette core was used, which made it possible to increase the fuel cycle to 3-3.5 years before refuelling, and also reduce by one and a half times the fuel component in the cost of the electricity produced. The operating experience of the FNPP provided the basis for the design of the new series of nuclear icebreaker reactors (series 22220). Currently, three such icebreakers have been launched.
The Akademik Lomonosov was connected to the power grid in December 2019, and put into commercial operation in May 2020.
Electricity generation from the FNPP at the end of 2023 amounted to 194 GWh. The population of Pevek is just over 4,000 people. However, the plant can potentially provide electricity to a city with a population of up to 100,000. The FNPP solved two problems. Firstly, it replaced the retiring capacities of the Bilibino Nuclear Power Plant, which has been operating since 1974, as well as the Chaunskaya Thermal Power Plant, which is more than 70 years old. It also supplies power to the main mining enterprises located in western Chukotka. In September, a 490 km 110 kilovolt power transmission line was put into operation connecting Pevek and Bilibino.
