21. Gardens by the Bay

gardens by the bay

It’s always better to climb up high for the best sunrise views. So head to this park before dawn (it opens at 5am) and wait for the sunrise to get lovely views of the Supertree Grove framed by sunlight, plus the reflections they make on Dragonfly Lake. It’s totally worth the early wake-up call! But if you’re not a morning person, sunsets are just as exquisite. Gardens by the Bay , 18 Marina Gardens Drive, Singapore 018953

22. Pulau Ubin

Chek Jawa in Pulau Ubin, Singapore

Be adventurous and jump on a boat to Pulau Ubin to catch the sunrise! The first boat leaves as early as 6am and the ride only takes about 10 minutes. That leaves you plenty of time to walk over to one of the beaches, settle down at a nice spot, and catch the first ray of light at the kampong island. After that, you’re good to go for a full day of exploring.

23. Pandan Reservoir

Journeying to the west? Make a date with Pandan Reservoir for a quiet sunset viewing. Stroll along the waters of this hidden spot or amp up your adrenaline with a jog – either way, it’ll be an idyllic experience at the sleepy spot. Pandan Reservoir, along West Coast Road and Jalan Buroh

The best scenic spots to watch the sunrise or sunset

Labrador nature reserve.

  • Things to do
  • Harbourfront

Labrador Nature Reserve

Photograph a beautiful sunrise or sunset with a picturesque view of the only rocky sea cliff in Singapore. As part of the Southern Ridges, Labrador Nature Reserve offers panoramic views of the city and the Southern Islands. For history buffs, war sites and points of interest are littered throughout the park, including the WWII fort that was built in 1878.

Raffles Marina Lighthouse

  • Attractions
  • Towers and viewpoints

Raffles Marina Lighthouse

Make a trip down to Raffles Marina to visit one of the last working lighthouses in Singapore. Overlooking the Malaysia-Singapore second link, the spot has multiple restaurants where you can enjoy a meal as well as a lovely pier that’s perfect for a casual evening stroll. Take a photo of the sunset with the lighthouse in frame for the ideal seaside picture.

Marina at Keppel Bay

Keppel Island has it all: luxury yachts, fine dining, and of course, picturesque views of the sunset. Admire the views of Resorts World Sentosa when strolling down the bay, or even go on a boat tour and learn about the history of Singapore’s southern islands. If you’re lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of marine life such as sea turtles that frequent the Marina’s city reef.

Pasir Ris Park

Pasir Ris Park

There is lots to do at Pasir Ris Park –  from inline skating to water sports, you will never be bored. While you can watch the sunrise and sunset from most areas in the park, the spot with the best view is the three-storey bird-watching tower located in the mangrove forest as you’ll get a clear, unobstructed view over the treetops. It’s a bit of a hassle to climb up three floors, but we can assure you that it’s worth it.

Breakwater at Marina East

Breakwater at Marina East

Located off the beaten path, the breakwater at Marina East is a safe haven away from the crowds. This spot went viral on Tiktok back in 2021 which led to part of it being cordoned off to prevent overcrowding, but now that the hype has faded away, the breakwater has returned to being a tranquil location to watch the sunset. It remains a relatively popular picnic spot on the weekends though, so be sure to go on weekdays to avoid the crowds.

Old Holland Road Big Field

Old Holland Road Big Field

This hidden gem is one of the quieter spots to view the sunrise and sunset, seeing as it is located amongst the private estates at Holland Road. As its name suggests, Old Holland Road Big Field is a massive, flat field with trees far in the distance– offering unobstructed views of the sunset, and is perfect for a quiet picnic with your loved ones. For those who have pets, let your pet frolic around the open field and bask in the evening sun – and don’t forget to take pictures while you’re at it.

Marina South Pier

Marina South Pier

Do some boat-watching on Marina South Pier MRT station’s rooftop garden. Look even further and you can spot the famous breakwater at Marina East and even Batam on a clear day. As Marina South Pier is not frequented by many due to its location, it remains one of the few quiet spots to watch the sun rising from and sinking into the sea.

Ulu Sembawang Park Connector

  • Parks and gardens
  • Raffles Place

Ulu Sembawang Park Connector

This park connector has a dedicated sunrise viewing point on Google Maps, and rightfully so. Heading to Ulu Sembawang’s sunrise spot will guarantee a dreamy and ethereal experience that is worth the hike. We recommend that you go after it rains: the field will be enveloped in a light mist, and combined with the red and orange sky, you will be left with a picture that looks as if it came out of a fantasy novel.

Helix Bridge

Helix Bridge

This iconic bridge is pretty Instagrammable on its own, but it’s also one of the best places to take pictures of the sunset with a view of the city skyline. This bridge is long enough that you are sure to find a spot for yourself, away from the throngs of people who are also there to capture the sunset on film.

Henderson Waves

  • Sport and fitness
  • Bukit Merah

Henderson Waves

This 36-metre-high bridge above Henderson Road is the highest pedestrian bridge in Singapore. It features a five-kilometre hiking trail known as the Southern Ridges that takes you through Kent Ridge Park, Telok Blangah Hill Park, and Mount Faber Park. The bridge has a unique wave-like structure with shell-like niches that serve as private resting areas. After a fulfilling hike, take a break at one of these resting areas to  view the beautiful sunset and watch the bridge light up as the sky gets darker.

Chinese Garden

  • Jurong East

Chinese Garden

This 13.5 hectare garden is filled with a multitude of spots to watch the sunset, and for those who wish to stay a bit longer, the moon as well. While the Chinese garden is still undergoing renovations, the existing Chinese pagodas and pavilions still make for a great backdrop to any sunrise shot. Soon, the gardens will reopen with an event lawn and a moon lantern palace – perfect for more sunset viewing.

Seletar Fishing Village

Seletar Fishing Village

Seletar Fishing Village may be known as the last fishing village in Singapore but fishing is not what it is popular for. Cyclists and explorers know that the small beach area and breakwater next to it is a secret – and probably the best – spot to watch the sunset in Singapore. When the tide is low, you can even walk down to the beach and swamp area. If you're thinking to explore the area in low tide, remember to wear proper walking shoes. And if you have time, don't forget to check out the views at the nearby Punggol Barat Island and also Rower's Bay Park.

Changi Bay Point

Changi Bay Point

Experience the sunset at scenic Changi Bay Point – a 140-metre-long boardwalk made out of slip-resistant glass fibre and reinforced concrete that also provides a beautiful view of the waterfront. Take a walk on the boardwalk which is connected to a breakwater so you can be right at the water's edge. Need a breather? Sit yourselves down at the pavilion near the boardwalk for a rest and enjoy the waterfront views while you're at it.

Though a lot of new materials are used to revamp this park connector, it still retains a natural and rustic feel with the amount of timber used and the landscaping efforts with include plenty of lush trees and plants (like lalang by the coast) that makes every corner you turn photogenic. Best times to come are the early mornings to avoid the crowds or cycle down in the golden hour.

SkyHelix Sentosa

SkyHelix Sentosa

Take to the skies and get a birds-eye view of Sentosa and its surroundings 35 metres up in the clouds. Called SkyHelix, it is Singapore's highest open-air panoramic ride and will be the first carbon-neutral attraction on Sentosa. Spiralling up to the sky, you'll enjoy unparalleled 360-degree views of Sentosa and the developing Greater Southern Waterfront. This means that you will get the most spectacular sunset views – just while your feet are dangling in the air.

Rower's Bay Park

Rower's Bay Park

Rower's Bay Park at Lower Seletar Reservoir is so named for the reservoir's popularity with kayaking and dragon-boating enthusiasts. The park's boardwalk has become popular with those in the neighbourhood as the best spot to view the sunrise or sunset. The wetlands surrounding the boardwalk have also been filled with plant species that will attract and provide a habitat for native wildlife in the area.

Ulu Pandan Reservoir

  • Rivers, lakes and ponds

Ulu Pandan Reservoir

This quiet spot in the west is well-frequented by joggers, anglers and leisure-seekers. However, evening is the best time to visit to catch some truly stunning sunsets. The flat, glassy waters also form a perfect mirror for the pastel hues that paint the sky as the sun goes down.

Lorong Halus

Lorong Halus

There's an aptly named Sunrise Bridge at Punggol Waterway to take your pictures at. But walk further 'til you reach the Lorong Halus Bridge. The red metal structure was made to look like an old, steel railway bridge and makes for a great frame for the sunrise. It’s beside the Insta-worthy lalang fields, too.

Kranji Marshes

  • Lim Chu Kang

Kranji Marshes

Home to 170 species of birds, 54 types of butterflies and 33 different kinds of dragonflies, this nature reserve is the perfect recreation area to observe and enjoy the island's wildlife. On top of that, there is an elevated observation tower for the best views of the sunrise and sunset. At 57 hectares and with a range of natural and green habitats, Kranji Marshes is Singapore's largest freshwater farmland.

East Coast Park

  • Marine Parade

East Coast Park

It’s easy to tell whether a picture is of the sunrise or sunset at East Coast Park: facing the sea, the sun rises on your left and sets on your right. For the best unobstructed views where you can take in both the sky and the sea, either go down the Bedok jetty or park yourself on the breakwater near carpark F2.

Marina Barrage

Marina Barrage

With a 360-degree view of the bay area – and the park being open 24 hours daily – you have the opportunity to arrive as early as you want to catch the mystifying sun rising and setting over the city skyline. Whether you set up a picnic mat, or simply taking a break on the benches, you are guaranteed a spectacular view of the open sky peppered with a kite or two.

Pulau Ubin

When was your last trip to Pulau Ubin ? If it has been eons ago, then you’d best revisit the offshore island, where nature’s bounty is teeming and Singapore’s last kampong houses stand. As bumboat rides to the island are available as early as 5.30am, kickstarting the day with the sunrise is possible. Upon reaching the island, walk along the sandy beaches towards the Jelutong Campsite from the jetty. You’ll be gifted with the sun’s magical glory.

Woodlands Waterfront Park

Woodlands Waterfront Park

It’s not just the convenience of crossing the causeway to Johor Bahru that the residents of Woodlands get to boast about. There’s also the Woodlands Waterfront Park that the Northern part of Singapore cherishes like a gem. With soaring views of the Straits of Johor, the 11-hectare park offers a scenic trail where early risers can fit in a morning stroll, while watching a glorious sunrise from the jetty. Same goes for the evening joggers.

Mount Faber Park

Mount Faber Park

While Bukit Timah Hill has claimed the title of the tallest hill in Singapore, it is without the blessing of offering phenomenal sunrise views like the way its stumpier sister Mount Faber can. Scale the hill either by driving or power walking to its peak before 7am to catch the sun ascends from the cityscape horizon.

Kranji Reservoir Park

  • Walks and tours

Kranji Reservoir Park

In Kranji Reservoir Park, you’ll find a memorial plaque that pays tribute to the brave soldiers who lost their lives in the Battle of Kranji during World War II. Aside from savouring this morsel of Singapore’s history, visitors can soak up the nature-related revelry offered in the park, such as picnics on the wide-open fields and fishing at designated areas. And of course, catch sight of the gorgeous sunrise and sunset, where the best spot for viewing is somewhere near the Kranji Dam.

Sembawang Park

Sembawang Park

Head to the rim of the waters at the end of Sembawang Park and take your photo with the metal cranes in the background. Alternatively, walk along the beach for the classic sun-over-the-horizon shot.

Tanjong Rhu

Tanjong Rhu

Here’s an obscure spot to catch the sun: Tanjong Rhu, or more specifically, the less trodden promenade that trails under the ECP and faces directly opposite Costa Rhu condominium. While it limits your exploration, the body of water, which stands in between the promenade and Costa Rhu, offers a dazzling reflection of the sun when it peeks out from hiding. It is truly a sublime view you should definitely capture on your phone.

Lower Seletar Reservoir Park

Lower Seletar Reservoir Park

Walk to the end of Heritage Bridge and, if the moon’s in alignment, you might even capture it beside the sun – no that spot isn’t dust on your lens. Or take your photos from the jetties near PA Water-Venture – there, you’ll be able to add elements to the image such as a boat and jetty.

Marina Bay

At Merlion Park, frame the mythical beast in the foreground with the sun rising between the Singapore Flyer and the ArtScience Museum. Otherwise, walk towards One Fullerton to capture backlit silhouettes of the Flyer and Marina Bay Sands as they frame the rising ball of fire. It's the most common scene of Singapore you'll see in travel brochures.

Gardens by the Bay

Gardens by the Bay

Ride the escalators to the top of the overhead bridge to Marina Bay Sands and point your camera at Gardens by the Bay for an image of the sun climbing over the Supertrees. Or head to Dragonfly Lake in the Gardens (the park opens at 5am) to snap an image of the sunrise, framed by the Supertrees and domes. For an alternative angle, you can cycle or walk to the quieter Bay East Garden across the water for a winning shot of the domes, Supertrees and its reflections on the water.

Ever heard of the golden hour? It’s the period right after sunrise or just before sunset when the sun hits the perfect angle to bathe the skies in gold – the perfect time for you to capture beautiful, Insta-worthy scenery in Singapore.

It’s no sunrise at the Grand Canyon, but in a time of travel restrictions, you’ll have to take what you can get for now as you gaze at Singapore’s landscapes in (literally) new light. If you’re tracking down places to take pictures in Singapore or just want to enjoy gorgeous vistas, look no further.

Here are seven hotspots worth making the trip to.

SkyPark Observation Deck at Marina Bay Sands

‱ 11am to 9pm daily (closed from 6pm to 7.30pm on Wednesdays & Thursdays except for public holidays) ‱ Getting there: From MRT Bayfront Station, walk to the entrance of Sands SkyPark in Hotel Tower 3, take the elevator to Level 57

For those wanting to watch the sun dip among Singapore’s iconic cityscape, nothing beats catching it from the SkyPark Observation Deck on Level 57 at Marina Bay Sands.

Sunrise & Sunset SkyPark Observation De_STB

The deck offers a bird’s-eye view of the city – from the skyscrapers of the Central Business District and the Supertree structures of Gardens by the Bay to the iconic durian domes of the Esplanade and the shophouses along Singapore River. You’ll get a full view of most of the panoramic wonders of Singapore from here.

Upper Peirce Reservoir Park

‱ Along Old Upper Thomson Road ‱ Getting there: Take bus services 163, 167, 169, 640, 652, 855 or 980 and alight at the Casuarina Curry stop. Make your way to Casuarina Road Car Park and enter via Old Upper Thomson Road.

Popular among runners and shutterbugs alike, Upper Peirce Reservoir Park might be a bit arduous to get to, considering that you’d have to walk a long stretch of road that used to host actual races back in the ’60s and ’70s as part of the Singapore Grand Prix.

Sunrise & Sunset Upper Peirce Reservoir_Jimmy Tan

Make it through a long, winding path, and you’ll enter a tranquil park with an unfettered view of Singapore’s largest reservoir. A dam separates Peirce Reservoir into two segments – Upper Peirce Reservoir and Lower Peirce Reservoir.

But this dam serves another purpose – being a solid spot for folks to sit by the waters and catch a beautiful Singapore sunset. With the reservoir stretching as far as the eyes can see, it makes a perfect setting for the golden hour when the waters catch the glow of the sun as it dips down behind the distant greenery.

Punggol Waterway Park

‱ Sentul Crescent Road ‱ Getting there: From Punggol MRT Station, take the LRT to Sam Kee Station and alight to walk to the park’s entrance

If quiet spots are your jam, one underrated spot to catch the sunrise can be found in the north-eastern region of Punggol. Like stretching your legs? You’ll probably love Punggol Waterway Park’s 8.4km-long promenade, peppered with dozens of bridges and viewing decks along the river, so be sure to pack your towels and water bottles as you venture the vastness of this park.

Sunrise & Sunset_Punggol Waterway Park_musicexpression Flickr

The position to look out for in the wee hours of the morning is the Sunrise Bridge, an aptly named section to watch the sunrise from a bridge that resembles an old-timey steel railway overpass. It’s a hark back to the old days of Kampong Punggol when it was a rural village known for fishing, poultry and pig farming.

Shutterbugs would love this area too. With an abundance of sights to see, the fusion of waterways, flora and fauna would make for beautiful photography backdrops during the golden hour. Waterway Point, located right next to the park, should be able to provide air-conditioned refuge and refreshments after the early morning hike.

Pasir Ris Park

‱ Along Pasir Ris Central ‱ Getting there: From Pasir Ris MRT Station or Pasir Ris Bus Interchange, walk to Pasir Ris Town Park and proceed up the path along Sungei Tampines

Travel further east to find another excellent spot to catch a sunrise in Singapore – this time among lush greenery at Pasir Ris Park. The charming park has a slew of activities for you to partake in, in addition to visiting its preserved mangrove forest.

Sunrise & Sunset Pasir Ris Park_cattan2011

Hit the Mangrove Boardwalk and keep strolling until you reach the three-storey Bird Watching Tower. Not only is this a tranquil place for bird watchers to observe fine feathered inhabitants, it’s also the perfect venue to catch the sun rising into the morning sky from up high.

An alternative spot in the vicinity would be none other than Pasir Ris Beach itself.

SUNRISE & SUNSET

Changi boardwalk.

‱ 7A Gosport Road ‱ Getting there: From Tanah Merah MRT Station, take bus service 2 all the way to Changi Village Bus Terminal and walk to Changi Point Waterfront Park

Changi Boardwalk is a popular place for sunsets for good reason. For one, the 2.2km boardwalk at Changi Point has a section dedicated to sunset chasers, appropriately called Sunset Walk.

Walk to the westernmost portion of this boardwalk to enjoy an unobstructed vista of the sea with the sun dipping into the horizon. If you squint, you can probably make out the lights of Punggol HDBs in the distance.

Sunrise & Sunset Changi Boardwalk sunrise_Vincent Chong STB

But don’t let the name trip you up – other sections of the boardwalk are just as great to catch both sunrises and sunsets from multiple angles. The Creek Walk lets you catch bumboats departing Changi Ferry Point Terminal, while the Beach Walk is a great spot to enjoy the scenery beside the beach.

As dusk falls, the lamp posts along the boardwalk will guide you back to where you started, with dozens of rest points and other amenities to be found along the waterfront.

‱ Yishun Avenue 1 ‱ Getting there: From Khatib MRT Station, take bus service 117 and alight at the bus stop after Yishun Ave 8 to walk to Yishun Dam

For a district known for some pretty hair-raising headlines, this spot up north might be one of the more underrated places to catch sunrises and sunsets, depending on which side of the dam you sit on.

The stretch of road might be busy with vehicles travelling to and from Yishun and Seletar, but don’t let that put you off. Take a seat along the breakwater and breathe in the panoramic seascape, with Malaysia’s Pasir Gudang in view as the sun rises. Head on to the other side of the dam and you’ll see Lower Seletar Reservoir dipped in hues of gold during sunset.

Sunrise & Sunset Yishun Dam_RC Katherine

The lengthy stretch of the dam will also ensure that you get some privacy and more than enough space to have a picnic, a romantic date or a spot of photography depending on the time of your visit.

Mount Faber

‱ Junction of Kampong Bahru Road and Telok Blangah Road ‱ Getting there: From Harbourfront MRT Exit D, make the long trek all the way up to Mount Faber via Marang Trail

One way to soak up the sunrise and sunset from up high in the city for free requires a fair bit of hiking up the country’s second-highest hill: Mount Faber.

The hilltop spot at the Mount Faber Lookout Point offers scenic views of the city skyline while reminding you that greenery exists in abundance, even in an urban district. After all, Mount Faber is covered by a secondary rainforest – though not as dense as Bukit Timah Hill, the highest point in Singapore.

Sunrise & Sunset_Mount Faber Park_John Zhao

Once you’re done snapping pictures of all the magnificent scenery or checking out the views of the Southern Islands, a heritage trail awaits those wanting to learn more about the history and natural heritage of the hill. Otherwise, gear up for another hike in the great outdoors from Henderson Waves (Singapore’s highest pedestrian bridge) and down to the Southern Ridges, a 10km stretch of green open spaces that connect Mount Faber Park, Telok Blangah Hill Park, HortPark, Kent Ridge Park and Labrador Nature Reserve.

Priya shares her tips for the best places to see the Singapore Sunset, along with some tips of exploring the gorgeous destination.

A streak of orange on the bright blue sky. And soon you see the brilliant blue hues ebbing away into fiery orange and mellow purples. The canvas is painted in intense tones of vibrant colors. But its beauty remains only for some moments.

As the giant amber orb dips below the horizon, the painting fades into pitch-black darkness. But that’s fine as nature comes up with a new show every evening for you to get mesmerized all over again. Watching a sunset feels therapeutic, the experience exudes tranquility even if it is in the middle of a bustling city.

If you are in Singapore and craving some deviation from the cosmopolitan hype, then there are plenty of places where you can switch off and get lost in the scenic solace of beautiful Singapore sunsets. Here are some of the best places to see the sunset in Singapore.

If you’re tracking down places to take pictures in Singapore or just want to enjoy gorgeous vistas, look no further. Here are some hotspots worth making the trip to.

1. Marina Bay Sands SkyPark Observation Deck

marina bay sands sunset in singapore

A panoramic view of the sunset from the iconic Marina Bay Sands SkyPark Observation Deck in Singapore.

For those wanting to watch the sun dip among Singapore’s iconic cityscape, there’s no other place to recommend than the infinity pool at Marina Bay Sands - you will feel like you are swimming in the clouds at the 150-metre long pool (also the world’s largest elevated body of water outdoors!). .

Also check out the SkyPark Observation Deck at the top of Marina Bay Sands, which comes with an entry fee upwards of S$20. Although there are other spots to watch sunsets and sunrises for free in Singapore, we believe that the price is worth the unparalleled panoramic view from 57 storeys up in the heart of Marina Bay.

The deck offers a bird’s-eye view of the city—from the skyscrapers of the Central Business District to the Supertree structures of Gardens by the Bay, the iconic ‘durian’ domes of the Esplanade, and the shophouses along Singapore River, you’ll get a full view of most of the panoramic wonders of Singapore from here. And if you’re fortunate enough to have a staycation in the hotel, be sure to pack your compact digital cameras with you because the sunset view of Singapore from the iInfinity pPool is just as gorgeous, with opportunities galore to humblebrag on Instagram.

Address: 10 Bayfront Ave, Singapore 018956

Popular among runners and shutterbugs alike, Upper Peirce Reservoir Park might be a bit arduous to get to, considering that you’d have to walk a long stretch of road that used to host actual races back in the ‘60s and ‘70s as part of the Singapore Grand Prix.

Make it through a long, winding path, and you’ll enter a tranquil park with an unfettered view of Singapore’s largest reservoir. A dam separates Peirce Reservoir into two segments - ; Upper Peirce Reservoir and Lower Peirce Reservoir.

But this dam serves another purpose— it is a solid spot for folks to sit by the waters and catch a beautiful Singapore sunset. With the reservoir stretching as far as the eyes can see, it makes a perfect setting for the golden hour when the waters catch the glow of the sun as it dips down behind the distant greenery.

Address: Along Old Upper Thomson Road

How to get there: Take bus services 163, 167, 169, 640, 652, 855, 980 and alight at the Casuarina Curry stop. Make your way to Casuarina Road Car Park and enter via Old Upper Thomson Road.

Throughout the years, the reservoir underwent several renovations and expansions to meet the increasing demand for water.

Today, the Upper Peirce Reservoir is not only a significant source of drinking water, but also a beloved destination for outdoor activities and wildlife observation. Keep an eye out for the diverse range of flora and fauna, including various bird and monkey species that call this reservoir home.

3. Punggol Waterway Park

Segmented into themes, the Punggol Waterway Park offers not only a green respite for visitors and residents, but the coolest view of the sunrise.

If quiet spots are your jam, one underrated spot to catch the sunrise can be found in the north-eastern regions of Punggol. Like stretching your legs? You’ll probably love Punggol Waterway Park’s 8.4km-long promenade, peppered with dozens of bridges and viewing decks along the river - so, be sure to pack your towels and water bottles as you venture the vastness of this park.

The position to look out for in the wee hours of the morning is the Sunrise Bridge, an aptly named section to watch the sunrise from a bridge that resembles an old-timey steel railway overpass. It’s a hark back to the old days of Kampong Punggol, when it was a rural village known for fishing, poultry and pig farming.

Shutterbugs would love this area too! With an abundance of sights to see, the fusion of waterways, flora and fauna would make for beautiful photography backdrops in the golden hour. Waterway Point, located right next to the park, should be able to provide air-conditioned refuge and refreshments after the early morning hike.

Of all the things to do in the east of Singapore , the charming Pasir Ris Park has a slew of modern park activities for you to partake in, in addition to visiting its preserved mangrove forest.

Hit the Mangrove Boardwalk and keep strolling until you reach the three-storey Bird Watching Tower. Not only is this a tranquil place for bird watchers to observe our fine feathered inhabitants, it’s also the perfect venue to catch the sun rising into the morning sky from up high when you’re there during the earliest time of the day.

An alternative spot in the vicinity would be none other than Pasir Ris Beach itself, where an award-winning nature photographer snapped a couple of breathtaking images of the crimson sun rising with wildlife forming the foreground.

Changi Boardwalk is a popular place for sunsets in Singapore for good reason. For one, the 2.2km boardwalk at Changi Point has a section dedicated to sunset chasers, appropriately called Sunset Walk.

Walk to the western most portion of this boardwalk to enjoy an unobstructed vista of the sea with the sun dipping into the horizon. If you squint, you can probably make out the lights of Punggol HDBs in the distance.

But don’t let the name trip you up—other sections of the boardwalk are just as great to catch both sunrises and sunsets from multiple angles—the Creek Walk lets you catch bumboats departing Changi Ferry Point Terminal, while the Beach Walk is a spot to enjoy the scenery beside the beach.

Don’t worry, the lamp posts along the boardwalk will guide you back to where you started, with dozens of rest points and other amenities to be found along the waterfront.

6. Yishun Dam

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Ridwan Liow (@ridliow)

For a district known for some pretty hair-raising headlines, this spot up north might be one of the more underrated places to catch sunrises and sunsets, depending on which side of the dam you sit on.

The stretch of road might be busy with vehicles travelling to and from Yishun and Seletar, but don’t let that put you off! Take a seat along the breakwater and breathe in the panoramic seascape, with Malaysia’s Pasir Gudang in view as the sun rises. Head on to the other side of the dam and you’ll see Lower Seletar Reservoir dipped in hues of gold during sunset.

The lengthy stretch of the dam will also ensure that you get some privacy and more than enough space to have small picnics, romantic dates or a spot of photography depending on the time of your visit.

Address: Yishun Ave 1, Singapore 769130

How to get there: From Khatib MRT Station, take bus service 117 and alight at the bus stop after Yishun Ave 8 to walk to Yishun Dam.

7. Mount Faber

One way to soak in the sunrise and sunset in Singapore from up high in the city for free requires a fair bit of hiking up the country’s second-highest hill: Mount Faber.

The hilltop spot at the Mount Faber Lookout Point offers scenic views of the city skyline while reminding you that greenery exists in abundance, even in an urban district. After all, Mount Faber is covered by a secondary rainforest—though not as dense as Bukit Timah Hill, the highest point in Singapore.

Once you’re done snapping pictures of all the magnificent sceneries or checking out the views of our southern islands, a heritage trail awaits visitors wanting to learn more about the history and natural heritage of the hill. Otherwise, gear up for another hike in the great outdoors from Henderson Waves (the highest pedestrian bridge in Singapore!) and down to the Southern Ridges, a 10km stretch of green open spaces that connects Mount Faber Park, Telok Blangah Hill Park, HortPark, Kent Ridge Park and Labrador Nature Reserve.

Address: Junction of Kampong Bahru Road and Telok Blangah Road, Singapore 099448

How to get there: From Harbourfront MRT Exit D, make the long trek all the way up to Mount Faber via Marang Trail.

Is Mount Faber worth a visit?

As one of the oldest and most iconic hilltop parks in Singapore, Mount Faber offers stunning panoramic views of the city skyline, Sentosa Island, and the Southern Islands. There are several lookout points along the trail, including Faber Point which offers a perfect photo opportunity.

Mount Faber also has several dining options, a cable car station that takes you to Sentosa Island, and several hiking trails that lead to nearby parks. Whether you're a nature lover, history buff, or just looking for a unique and memorable experience, Mount Faber has something for everyone and is well worth a visit.

Can you drive up Mount Faber?

Yes, you can drive up Mount Faber. There is a road that leads to the summit of Mount Faber, where you can find parking facilities near Faber Peak. Besides walking and driving, you can also take a cable car ride from Harbourfront to Faber Peak, which offers breathtaking views of the city skyline and the surrounding areas.

If you stay around the east, there are so many gorgeous spots to watch sunrises and sunsets. Watch the video below for inspiration!

Now that you’ve got all the details, all that’s left is for you to actually drop by these spots and bring along your shooters of choice; be it the smartphone in your pocket or a full-fledged camera setup. Or just enjoy sunrises and sunsets as it is — perhaps taking in these simple, peaceful moments in the soft glow of the sun are more of what we need as we start moving past trying times.
