How Ticketing Works For The Cure’s Shows Of A Lost World Tour

Statement From Robert Smith, The Cure

View this post on Instagram   A post shared by The Cure (@thecure)
  • TICKETS WILL BE NON-TRANSFERABLE : Ticketmaster will be following the artist’s terms and any tickets sold on our platform will be non-transferable to prevent tickets being resold for a profit. (Please note: This does not apply to tickets purchased for tour dates in New York and Illinois, where state laws prohibit artists from restricting resale).
  • TICKETS CAN ONLY BE RESOLD AT FACE VALUE : To give fans flexibility if their plans change, the tour will utilize Ticketmaster’s Face Value Exchange, which allows fans to sell their tickets for the price they paid, including fees and taxes. That way, if a fan can’t make the show, they have a way to get their money back while making another fan’s night.
  • THE ONSALE WILL USE VERIFIED FAN TO GET TICKETS TO FANS : The Cure is leveraging Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan technology to ensure more tickets get into the hands of concertgoers. Verified Fan requires registration to help filter out buyers looking to resell tickets, and instead get them into the hands of fans who want to attend the show. While there may not be enough tickets for everyone, Verified Fan does significantly block bots and professional resellers from competing against fans for tickets during the sale. It also provides an equal opportunity for all fans to get the chance to purchase tickets to shows by using a lottery-style selection process.

Fans mean everything to artists, and we at Ticketmaster believe that the best way to ensure a fair ticketing experience for live music fans is to put more control in the hands of the artists themselves. To learn more about the FAIR Ticketing Act and how we’re supporting this movement, visit fairticketing.com .

How does Ticketmaster Verified Fan work?

Artists choose to use Verified Fan to give their fans a better chance at buying tickets by creating an extra line of defense against bots and professional resellers who are looking to get tickets for profit. The process includes three steps:

Step 1: Registration

By registering for a Verified Fan sale, you are letting us know that you’re interested in purchasing tickets. From the registration page, you  sign in to your account, select your preferred show(s) and register your email and phone number. Once completed, you’ll automatically receive a confirmation email letting you know that we got your request. It’s quick, easy and free to sign up.

Step 2: Verification

Next Ticketmaster vets each request by confirming it belongs to an individual  – not a bot – and that it hasn’t been tied to irregular behaviors that could be a sign of a professional seller attempting to access the sale.

Access Code or Waitlist

When demand exceeds availability, a lottery-style process will determine which registered Verified Fans get an access code for the sale, and which are put on a waitlist. You’ll receive an email the day prior to the ticket sale letting you know which group you’re in.

Access Code: If you receive an access code, it will be sent via text message. It is unique to your account, and will not work if anyone else enters it – do not try to sell or trade your code.

Waitlist: If tickets remain, we may text you an access code to join the ticket sale. The lottery-style process will be used to determine who gets off the waitlist.

While it doesn’t guarantee that all Verified Fans will get tickets, it does significantly block bots and professional resellers from competing against fans for tickets during the sale .

What does it mean if a ticket is non-transferable?

When tickets are non-transferable, it means that the transfer feature is disabled by the event organizer to prevent tickets from being resold for a profit.

If you can no longer attend a show, you can sell your tickets for the price you paid using Ticketmaster’s Face Value Exchange . Important note: Fans should not attempt to purchase tickets from sites outside of those made available on the Face Value Exchange. Learn more about how to avoid fake “speculative” tickets for live events.

What is Ticketmaster’s Face Value Exchange?

Ticketmaster’s Face Value Exchange allows fans to sell their tickets to other fans at the price they paid, including fees and taxes. Artists choose to leverage the Ticket Exchange marketplace to protect fans who can no longer make the show. It also gives fans looking for tickets access to purchase them at a fair price.

How do I list tickets for sale on the Face Value Exchange?

It’s quick and easy to list your tickets for sale on the Face Value Exchange.

Here’s how it works:

  • Sign in to My Account, click My Tickets then select See Details next to your event.
  • Click the Sell button.
  • Choose to list one or all your tickets for the price you paid.
  • Tell us how you’d like to get paid.
  • Review your listing and you’re all set .

If I sell my tickets on the Face Value Exchange, will I get back the fees I paid when I purchased my tickets?

Yes. If you have purchased a ticket on our platform and discover you can’t use it, you’ll be able to make your money back by selling your ticket for exactly what you originally paid, including fees.

What does it cost to sell tickets on the Face Value Exchange?

There are no additional fees charged to buy or sell tickets on the Face Value Exchange.

What does it cost to buy tickets on the Face Value Exchange?

There are no additional fees charged when purchasing tickets on the Face Value Exchange. The tickets are listed at an all-in price including face value and fees paid by the original buyer.

How to Get Tickets to The Cure’s 2023 Tour

The post How to Get Tickets to The Cure’s 2023 Tour appeared first on Consequence .

The Cure have announced their 2023 North American tour . Going from coast to coast from May to July for 30 stops, this leg of the “Songs of a Lost World Tour” will be their first tour on the continent in seven years ( get tickets here ).

The announcement comes as fans are still in anticipation of the band’s new album, itself titled Songs of a Lost World . In 2022, frontman Robert Smith hinted that the album would be out by the end of the year, but as of March 2023, there is still no release date. Nonetheless, the band did play the European leg of the “Songs of a Lost World Tour” last fall, where they debuted two new songs presumably off the album.

Embarking on the North American leg of the tour, fans can expect to hear a good variety of classic hits, deep cuts, and maybe a few new tracks (if the setlist is anything like the European leg, that is).

Get tickets here , and read on for all the dates and details.

What Is The Cure’s Next Tour?

The European leg of the “Songs of a Lost World Tour” ran from last October through December — now, the show is coming stateside for 30 dates, starting in New Orleans on May 10th and ending in Miami on July 1st.

After kicking off, the tour will go west through Texas (making stops in Houston, Dallas, and Austin), through the Southwest, and into California, where the band will play their first of two three-day residencies, this one at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. Then, the show will follow the West Coast all the way up to Vancouver, before hopping back into the states for shows in cities such as Chicago and Detroit, among many others.

Then, going into Canada one more time, they’ll hit Toronto and Montreal, and return to the states for East Coast gigs, including their second three-day residency, this one at Madison Square Garden in New York. From there, the tour will continue down the coast and end in Miami.

Who Is Opening for The Cure?

The Cure will be taking longtime tourmates The Twilight Sad on the road with them. They first toured together in 2016 after Smith selected the group as openers, and since then, the two acts have done numerous collaborations.

How Can I Get Tickets for The Cure’s 2023 Tour?

The Cure’s Robert Smith Says Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan System Is ‘Far From Perfect’ as N. American Shows Go on Sale

"We didn't agree to "dynamic pricing... because it is itself a bit of a scam?" the singer wrote in a tweet spree.

Robert Smith of The Cure

Robert Smith is explaining the serious measures The Cure is taking to avoid outrageous ticket prices for their upcoming North American tour . In a shot across the bow at re-sellers, when the tickets for the 30-date run of Shows of a Lost World Tour went on sale Wednesday morning (March 15) to those who pre-registered using Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan system, will be non-transferrable in order to minimize resale and keep prices at face value.

The Cure Announce 2023 North American Tour Dates

Trending on billboard.

He then noted that the group had “final say” in all the ticket pricing for the tour, with Smith determined that those prices would not be “INSTANTLY AND HORRIBLY DISTORTED BY RESALE.” Smith referred to touts as being part of a “sophisticated business” expert at acquiring tickets and reselling them on marketplaces such as Vivid, Stubhub and Seatgeek.

Smith also revealed that the Cure were told that TM’s Verified Fan platform “has been used more than 400 times to qualify buyers and reduced the % of tickets on the secondary market” and that using VF has regularly reduced scalping by 80%, with less than 5% of tickets typically ending up on the secondary market.

By making the tickets non-transferable, scalpers will be unable to purchase tickets and then resell them for a profit since the original owner will have to be present to enter the venue. For fans who purchase tickets but can’t make it to the event, they will be able to resell the ticket on a face-value ticket exchange.

“WE WERE CONVINCED THAT TICKETMASTER’S ‘Verified Fan Page’ AND ‘Face Value Ticket Exchange’ IDEAS COULD HELP US FIGHT THE SCALPERS,” Smith wrote. “(WE DIDN’T AGREE TO THE ‘DYNAMIC PRICING’ / ‘PRICE SURGING’ / ‘PLATINUM TICKET’ THING… BECAUSE IT IS ITSELF A BIT OF A SCAM? A SEPARATE CONVERSATION!).”

The singer also tweeted that though TM’s Verified Fan is a “far from perfect system,” the reality is that if there aren’t enough tickets on sale, some fans will miss out no matter what system the Cure use. “At least this one tries to get tickets into the hands of fans at a fair price,” he said. In the final comment in the Twitter run, Smith noted he’d been told that TM will continued to sell tickets to Verified users “until there are no more tickets to sell.”

The Cure’s efforts to combat resale ticketing comes after a season of in-demand tours facing astronomical price increases due to dynamic ticketing and scalpers. Ticketmaster is currently facing  government inquiries  into its handling of the disastrous  Taylor Swift  Eras Tour presale, which left many fans outraged when service delays and website crashes (caused in part by bots)  prevented many of them from securing tickets .

See Smith’s tweets below.

TM HAVE JUST TOLD ME "ALL tickets for The Cure Shows Of A Lost World Tour will be made available during tomorrow’s Verified Fan Sale" SEEMS THE RESPONSE TO REGISTRATION HAS BEEN PRETTY OVERWHELMING – THANKS! HOWEVER, I REALISE THERE ARE PROBLEMS, SOME MORE REAL THAN OTHERS… — ROBERT SMITH (@RobertSmith) March 15, 2023
WE HAD FINAL SAY IN ALL OUR TICKET PRICING FOR THIS UPCOMING TOUR, AND DIDN’T WANT THOSE PRICES INSTANTLY AND HORRIBLY DISTORTED BY RESALE – WE WERE TOLD "In North America the resale business is a multi-billion $ industry. — ROBERT SMITH (@RobertSmith) March 15, 2023
The touts are sophisticated businesses that are expert at acquiring tickets, and the major marketplaces like Vivid, Stubhub and Seatgeek spend tens of millions of dollars on marketing. The touts get an unfair share of tickets and resell them on these marketplaces." — ROBERT SMITH (@RobertSmith) March 15, 2023
WE WERE TOLD “Ticketmaster's Verified Fan platform has been used more than 400 times to qualify buyers and reduce the % of tickets on the secondary market. — ROBERT SMITH (@RobertSmith) March 15, 2023
Using Verified Fan scalping is regularly reduced by 80%, with typically fewer than 5% of tickets on the secondary market after a Verified Fan campaign. Listed below are a few of the artists who have effectively used VF to limit resale.” — ROBERT SMITH (@RobertSmith) March 15, 2023
WE WERE CONVINCED THAT TICKETMASTER'S "Verified Fan Page” AND "Face Value Ticket Exchange” IDEAS COULD HELP US FIGHT THE SCALPERS — ROBERT SMITH (@RobertSmith) March 15, 2023
(WE DIDN’T AGREE TO THE 'DYNAMIC PRICING' / 'PRICE SURGING’ / ‘PLATINUM TICKET' THING… BECAUSE IT IS ITSELF A BIT OF A SCAM? A SEPARATE CONVERSATION!) — ROBERT SMITH (@RobertSmith) March 15, 2023
WE KNOW IT IS A FAR FROM PERFECT SYSTEM – BUT THE REALITY IS THAT IF THERE AREN’T ENOUGH TICKETS ONSALE, A NUMBER OF FANS ARE GOING TO MISS OUT WHATEVER SYSTEM WE USE; AT LEAST THIS ONE TRIES TO GET TICKETS INTO THE HANDS OF FANS AT A FAIR PRICE… — ROBERT SMITH (@RobertSmith) March 15, 2023

The Cure's first US tour since 2016 is coming to metro Phoenix. What fans should know

Portrait of Ed Masley

Post-punk legends the Cure will bring the Shows of a Lost World Tour, their first full U.S. tour in seven years, to Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona, on Thursday, May 18, with the Twilight Sad.

It's been even longer since they've played a Valley concert — June 4, 2008, at what was then called the Dodge Theatre in downtown Phoenix.

Since the band's last U.S. tour, the Cure have been inducted (for obvious reasons) to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails inducted them, calling them "one of the most instantaneously recognizable and sonically unique rock bands of the 20th and 21st century."

The Cure’s first album since 2008's “4:13 Dream," “Songs of a Lost World," is expected to arrive this year.

The 30-date US tour in support of the "Songs of a Lost World" album will include three nights at the Hollywood Bowl and Madison Square Garden.

The Cure’s Robert Smith “sickened” by ticket fees, says Verified Fan system “far from perfect”

Tickets went on sale Wednesday for The Cure’s much-anticipated North American tour via a presale managed under Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan system , a rocky experience that left both fans and frontman Robert Smith frustrated by high fees and a lack of access.

Smith wrote two Twitter threads in the last couple days about the experience — see them both in full below — venting his own frustration and detailing the band’s efforts to keep tickets out of the hands of scalpers and off the resale market by using Verified Fan, which he acknowledged “is a far from perfect system.”

“I am just as sickened as you all are by today’s Ticketmaster ‘fees’ debacle,” he wrote in his typical all-caps. “To be very clear: The artist has no way to limit them. I have been asking how they are justified.”

That ire was no doubt fueled by a viral tweet that showed tickets for one of the band’s North American shows had been priced as low as $20 apiece, but the purchase of four of them — for a total of $80 — was accompanied by an additional $92.10 in fees, raising the per-ticket price to $43.

For that particular purchase, the fees exceeded the cost of the tickets — though it should be noted that it’s not just Ticketmaster assessing the fees; nearly half of the fees in this case were charged by the venue. Of course, many venues are owned by Live Nation, which merged with Ticketmaster in 2010.

the cure deliberately kept ticket prices low and @Ticketmaster was like “lol bet” and charges more in fees than the band is for the actual show pic.twitter.com/Ig0U5Ywcpw — frank costanza’s lawyer (@_carrrmen) March 15, 2023

Fans took to social media to complain about the Verified Fan process, which required Ticketmaster users to preregister for the chance to buy tickets during the presale. Some were sent presale codes in advance that allowed them to get in line, others received codes after the tickets already had gone on sale. And some registered Verified Fan users who were waitlisted never got presale codes at all.

It’s not clear how many of the shows have sold out since only Verified Fan users with codes can access the presales. Smith tweeted that all seats would be made available during the presale. The general on-sales are scheduled for Friday morning, though it’s possible there won’t be tickets left for some shows.

Smith previously had detailed the lengths The Cure were going to keep tickets affordable and to thwart scalpers, including by not using dynamic pricing — “It is a greedy scam — and all artists have the choice not to participate” — and barring the transfer of electronic tickets or their resale at prices above face value, though that’s not possible in New York, Illinois and Colorado, where, according to Ticketmaster, “state law prohibits artists from restricting resale.”

On Wednesday night, Smith tweeted that he’d been informed reseller StubHub had pulled all listings except in New York, Chicago and Denver, or “cities in states that have laws protecting scalpers.”

He added that “there are still tickets available — it’s just a very slow process.”

Smith has encouraged fans in those states who need to resell their tickets to use face value exchanges like twickets.live and cashortrade.org .

…AND/OR WE SHOULD PLAY MORE/BIGGER SHOWS? HA!!! ONWARDS… — ROBERT SMITH (@RobertSmith) March 15, 2023
WHAT I MEANT BY THIS BIT WAS… I HAD A SEPARATE CONVERSATION ABOUT 'PLATINUM', TO SEE IF I HAD MISUNDERSTOOD SOMETHING… BUT I HADN'T! IT IS A GREEDY SCAM – AND ALL ARTISTS HAVE THE CHOICE NOT TO PARTICIPATE… IF NO ARTISTS PARTICIPATED, IT WOULD CEASE TO EXIST X https://t.co/Kj7hjkRGn1 — ROBERT SMITH (@RobertSmith) March 15, 2023
I AM AS SICKENED AS YOU ALL ARE BY TODAY'S TICKETMASTER 'FEES' DEBACLE. TO BE VERY CLEAR: THE ARTIST HAS NO WAY TO LIMIT THEM. I HAVE BEEN ASKING HOW THEY ARE JUSTIFIED. IF I GET ANYTHING COHERENT BY WAY OF AN ANSWER I WILL LET YOU ALL KNOW. X — ROBERT SMITH (@RobertSmith) March 16, 2023
I HAVE BEEN TOLD: StubHub has pulled listings in all markets except NY, Chicago, Denver (IE. CITIES IN STATES THAT HAVE LAWS PROTECTING SCALPERS). PLEASE DON'T BUY FROM THE SCALPERS – THERE ARE STILL TICKETS AVAILABLE – IT IS JUST A VERY SLOW PROCESS… X — ROBERT SMITH (@RobertSmith) March 16, 2023
I WILL BE BACK IF I GET ANYTHING SERIOUS ON THE TM FEES… IN THE MEANTIME, I AM COMPELLED TO NOTE DOWN MY OBVIOUS RECURRING ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM THOUGHT… THAT IF NO-ONE BOUGHT FROM SCALPERS… THEN… X — ROBERT SMITH (@RobertSmith) March 16, 2023

I’m glad Smith is trying to tangle with TM and deal with the issue, but I’m on the waitlist and just feel like I’m in limbo anxiously waiting for updates, not even knowing if the system is working at all.

Interpol add more shows to their ‘Antics’ 20th anniversary US tour

They've added four dates in Boston, Brooklyn, and Philadelphia

Interpol

Interpol have added more shows to their 2024 ‘Antics’ 20th-anniversary tour.

  • READ MORE:  Interpol on 20 years of ‘Antics’ and touring with The Cure: “It was another era”

In June, the band initially announced three US dates, which followed the announcement of several upcoming shows across the UK and Europe to mark the anniversary of the hit 2004 album.

Now, they’ve added four dates in Boston, Brooklyn, and Philadelphia in December, telling fans: “Friends in The Big House will receive their exclusive pre-sale access code on Wednesday August 21st, at 10am ET.”

General on-sale starts on Friday August 23rd, at 10am ET here .

Interpol’s US tour dates are:

NOVEMBER 19 – The Salt Shed, Chicago, IL 20 – The Moody Amphitheater, Austin, TX 23 – Kia Forum, Los Angeles, CA

Recommended

1 – Roadrunner, Boston 3 – Brooklyn Steel, Brooklyn 4 – Brooklyn Steel, Brooklyn 6 – Franklin Music Hall, Philadelphia

Speaking to  NME in March , guitarist Daniel Kessler looked back on the ‘Antics’ tour and how Interpol came together as a live band. “We just really settled into it,” he said. “There are a lot of cliches about the music industry, and you do have your whole life to make your first record.

“Everything was leading up to us releasing ‘Bright Lights’, but I never even envisioned putting out one record and couldn’t get beyond that. You’re going and going and you get the opportunity to be in the moment and own it a bit more. You’re enjoying being on stage and connecting with each other. By ‘Antics’, we had more ownership on stage.”

He also touched on revisiting the album in full, saying it was both “strange” and “nerve-wracking” when they first did it in France last year .

“It might not seem that much of a stretch for a band to play an album in sequence, but it really is,” he said. ” It’s sequenced for the record in a very intentional way, but performing it as such means going from first gear to fourth gear and vice versa. When we did those two shows, it really took some activating and getting used to – regardless of how many times you’ve played those songs before.

“Nervous energy makes you be very present in the moment, and you want to stay faithful to what people are expecting to hear.”

Elsewhere, the band recently had to apologise for inadvertently copying another artist’s work for the poster for the forthcoming tour , after it was pointed out that it resembled a painting by New York-based mural and studio artist Tony Sjöman.
