Live At Leeds

Buy: Live At Leeds

Recorded on Valentines Day, 14 February 14 1970 at Leeds University,  Live at Leeds  was released in the UK in May 1970 on Track Records (2406 001), as a CD in the 1980s by Polydor (825 339-2) a Polydor remastered CD with additional tracks (527 169-2) in 1995, as a Deluxe Edition in 2001 (Polydor 112 618-2) and as a Super Deluxe Edition on it’s 40th birthday in 2010 (see BOX SETS). It was released simultaneously in the US on Decca (DL 79175), as a CD (MCA MCAD-37000, MFSL UDCD 755), as a remixed CD (MCA MCAD-11215 and a deluxe limited (and numbered) edition that included the paper inserts MCAD-11230) in 1995, and as a Deluxe Edition (E+CD MCA 088 112 618-2) in 2001. It was reissued on heavyweight vinyl in 2017 in a gatefold sleeve but without the loose inserts (although they were featured on the liner bag) with the original six tracks remastered.

  • YOUNG MAN BLUES
  • SUMMERTIME BLUES
  • SHAKIN’ ALL OVER
  • MY GENERATION

Produced by The Who

Sleeve design by Graphreaks.

The original album consisted of just six tracks.

The first upgrade, the 1995 CD version of  Live at Leeds consisted of 14 tracks. (The two catalogue numbers for the American version represent a regular CD release including a special 12″ x 12″edition so that full-size reproductions of the original enclosures could be included.) The remixed  /remastered CD interspersed eight songs in their proper order from the concert as follows:

  • Heaven And Hell
  • I Can’t Explain
  • Fortune Teller
  • Young Man Blues
  • I’m A Boy
  • A Quick One, While He’s Away
  • Amazing Journey / Sparks
  • Summertime Blues
  • Shakin’ All Over
  • My Generation

The second upgrade (The Deluxe Edition): This 2001 version included the entire concert, but as noted above not in the original order. Since all of Tommy  is included on the second disc,’Amazing Journey’ / ‘Sparks’ / is dropped from the first disc (see above). The net result is a release that is far beyond the intent and scope of the original LP.

  • Amazing Journey
  • Eyesight To The Blind (The Hawker)
  • The Acid Queen
  • Pinball Wizard
  • Do You Think It’s Alright?
  • Fiddle About
  • Tommy, Can You Hear Me?
  • There’s A Doctor
  • Go To The Mirror!
  • Smash the Mirror

Deluxe edition design & art direction by Richard Evans Liner notes by Chris Charlesworth Live photos by Chris McCourt

For the third upgrade, see BOX SETS.

In 2017 Live At Leeds was reissued on heavyweight vinyl in a gatefold sleeve with the inserts reproduced on the inner gatefold and individually on the liner bag.

the who amazing journey sparks live

Deaf, dumb and blind boy He's in a quiet vibration land Strange as it seems his musical dreams ain't quite so bad Ten years old, with thoughts as bold as thought can be Loving life and becoming wise, in simplicity Sickness will surely take the mind Where minds can't usually go Come on the amazing journey and learn all you should know A vague haze of delirium creeps up on me All at once a tall stranger I suddenly see He's dressed in a silver sparked, glittering gown And his golden beard flows, nearly down to the ground Nothing to say, nothing to hear and nothing to see Each sensation makes a note in my symphony Sickness will surely take the mind Where minds can't usually go Come on, the amazing journey and learn all you should know His eyes are the eyes that, transmit all they know Sparkle warm crystalline glances to show He is your leader, he is your guide On the amazing journey together you'll ride

What’s on TV This Week: ‘English Teacher’ and ‘Wise Guy: David Chase and the Sopranos’

FX airs a new comedy series and ‘The Sopranos’ creator talks about the show in a documentary series.

In a colorful scene in a cafeteria, teachers sit at a table and talk to one another.

By Shivani Gonzalez

For those who still enjoy a cable subscription, here is a selection of cable and network TV shows, movies and specials that broadcast this week, Sept. 2-8. Details and times are subject to change.

ENGLISH TEACHER 10 p.m. on FX. Since “The Office” and “Parks and Recreation” are long off the air, maybe this brand-new series can fill the workplace sitcom hole in our collective hearts. It follows Evan Marquez (played by Brian Jordan Alvarez, who also created the show), a high school teacher in Austin, Texas, who tries to prioritize his conduct and is trying to figure out if he can be fully himself in his job. Things start to go awry when Evan is investigated over a previous incident where students caught him and his boyfriend, Malcolm, a former teacher at the high school, kissing.

THE BACHELORETTE 8 p.m. on ABC. On last week’s episodes, Jenn Tran surprised viewers by telling Devin Strader she loved him and giving him a rose. The problem? She also told Marcus Shoberg the same thing — and he didn’t say it back. Despite this, she also gave him a rose, so now Marcus and Devin are the only two men left. The host, Jesse Palmer, keeps teasing that “no Bachelorette has ever ended her journey like this.” (Joey Graziadei’s finale did live up to that type of hype, so maybe Jenn’s will as well.) Don’t worry about postseason blues though, because we only have three weeks before the first season of “The Golden Bachelorette” begins. (And though I am excited, I really miss “Paradise.”)

N.F.L. KICKOFF EVENT 9 p.m. on NBC. Time to dust off your jerseys, perfect your Buffalo chicken dip and crack open a cold one because football season is back, baby! The season is starting off with its annual kickoff game and events — this time with the reigning champions, the Kansas City Chiefs, up against the Baltimore Ravens. NBC Sports’s Sunday Night Football team, Mike Tirico, Cris Collinsworth and Melissa Stark are back for their third year to give you their thoughts.

TWISTER (1996) 8 p.m. on AMC. If you’re prone to motion sickness, don’t love the idea of being wet in a movie theater or are generally nervous about the idea of winds blowing at 300 miles per hour, maybe it’s best to skip the 4DX double feature of “Twister” and “Twisters,” and instead enjoy this classic 1990s film from the comfort of your home. The movie follows an estranged couple, Dr. Jo Harding (Helen Hunt) and Bill (Bill Paxton), who join forces one last time on a mission to collect tornado related data. “Tornado-chasing suddenly takes on a sex appeal not usually associated with horrendous storms,” Janet Maslin wrote in her review for The New York Times.

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN (2012) & THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 (2014) starting at 7 p.m. on Bravo . If I find myself with any spare time, I would like to conduct a study about why every pair of actors who meet on the set of some sort of “Spiderman” film end up in love. First, Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst dated post “Spider-Man” and, most recently, Tom Holland and Zendaya got together after filming “Spider-Man: Far From Home.” In “The Amazing Spider-Man,” the same thing happened, with Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield finding real-life sparks. It’s fascinating. These two films follow Peter Parker (Garfield) as he meets Gwen Stacey (Stone) and tries to find out what happened to his parents. Naturally, things unravel and Spider-Man comes to the rescue. “Mr. Garfield and Ms. Stone are by far the movie’s greatest assets and when they’re together onscreen, they add warmth and a believable closeness to the industrial mix,” Manohla Dargis wrote in her review for The Times.

WISE GUY DAVID CHASE AND THE SOPRANO 8 p.m. on HBO. The first episode of “The Sopranos” aired 25 years ago, but is still very much a part of the cultural zeitgeist. This two-part documentary series seeks to dig deep into the brain of David Chase and his show running outlook. The documentary includes interviews with Michael Imperioli, Lorraine Bracco and Edie Falco, as well as writers, producers and network executives.

CHIMP CRAZY 10 p.m. on HBO. While this story about Tonka, the chimpanzee that went missing during the filming of this documentary, has been playing out on small screens, a whole other story has been playing out in the media. In the first episode of this documentary series, the filmmaker, Eric Goode, explains that he has a proxy director since he didn’t want Tonia Haddix, an exotic animal broker, to know that he was the same person who created the “Tiger King” series. Now, Haddix is speaking out publicly, s aying that she wouldn’t have done the show if she had known who was behind it . HBO is airing the finale this week, but the off screen controversies may keep playing out.
