Good Travel Seal

The  Good Travel Seal  is more than just a certification, it is a sustainability management program for all tourism and travel related businesses and facilities, designed to be feasible and affordable especially for SMEs.

About this program

Methodology, why join this program, about the good travel seal, who is this program for.

Tourism-related businesses and DMOs

Certificate Validity

Fees vary according to the number of employees or size of establishment

With the Good Travel Seal (GTS) , we offer sustainability certification for any type of business with 3 certification levels that can be followed in steps, but you can start with any level*. GTS level 1 directly follows from the Good Travel Scan self-assessment, with no need for extensive reporting. All levels are concluded with an audit every 2-3 years . An onsite audit is alternated with a remote audit.

Green Destinations is very concerned about greenwashing in tourism, so we create  a scorecard  showing the performance of each certified business, in addition to a certificate. Here is a sample scorecard:

travel life label

You can find certified business scorecards on the Good Travel Guide   website.

All GTS-certified businesses receive a wide range of promotional benefits. Ask us about it!

After GTS level 1, Tour Operators will be advised to apply for certification by Travelife  for Tour Operators and Travel Agents.

Management & Info

The Good Travel Seal operates worldwide thanks to our unique partnership with local representatives and partner organisations supporting and offering the program. This enables us to offer the certification in YOUR language. All certified businesses receive the certification decision, a list of recommendations, the GTS Seal, Certificate, and Performance Scorecard.

GTS level 1 is a fast-track certification. Companies make a self-assessment with yes/no answers on 62 questions combining many of the GSTC Industry Criteria and the Travalyst sustainability actions (used by Booking.com a.o.). This takes only 20 minutes. You will then be interviewed on the results of your self-assessment; interview and final audit will take 3-4 hours for small businesses.

For GTS level 2 , companies report on their compliance with +/- 76 criteria covering 67% of the GSTC Industry Criteria .

GTS level 3 (previously indicated as GTS+ ) offers companies the option to take a further step in their sustainability journey by adding 14 additional criteria and achieving certification based on all GSTC Industry Criteria. This is a great and affordable opportunity both for companies that already have enough experience in sustainability.

How does GTS level 1 work?

Self-assessment  .

GTS level 1 is recommended for micro, small and medium-sized businesses ( MSMEs ) and those who are less experienced with sustainability. Upon registration and payment, you will complete a self-assessment (like the GT Scan) in a Survey Form.

Technical check

A coach will have a call with you to look through your answers and make sure the reporting is completed.

Interactive evaluation

After implementing the changes from the technical check, you can proceed with an interview with one of our experts enabling you to clarify your performance. Our expert will make a summary of your performance and your level of compliance with the criteria.

Certification

Your level of compliance will be confirmed by the GD GTS Certification Committee . If the result is sufficient, you will be awarded with the certification. You will receive a list of recommendations, a seal, a certificate, and a scorecard .

How does GTS level 2 work?

Reporting  .

Upon registration and payment, you will receive a login to our Good Travel Seal Online Platform and a guide on how to proceed. You will see the +/- 76 criteria and checks of the GTS for Small & Medium Enterprises (SMEs) , for each criterion you can find guidance in the platform. You will be invited to summarise what you do to meet each of the criteria, and you are also invited to submit documents that are important for the auditor to understand what you do for sustainable and responsible tourism.

Assessment

The information on the platform will then be assessed by a team of experts, who will evaluate your performance against the criteria and checks. You will receive feedback on how to improve your performance and your reporting.

If you achieve a compliance of more than 75%, an independent auditor will verify your reporting by checking your business. The audit will be carried out online (via video call) or on-site, alternating every 2-3 years.

The findings of the audit are used to make a final certification decision. If the result is sufficient, you will be awarded with the certification. You will receive a list of recommendations, a seal, a certificate, and a scorecard .

How does GTS level 3 work?

When you have a high performance in GTS Level 1 or 2, you are encouraged to proceed with Level 3. Like for Level 2, you report on our Good Travel Seal Online Platform . You will now see +/- 89 criteria and checks of the full Good Travel Standard , corresponding to all GSTC Industry Criteria. You will be invited to summarise what you do to meet each of the criteria, and you are also invited to submit documents that are important for the auditor to understand what you do for sustainable and responsible tourism.

If you achieve a compliance of more than 75% , an independent auditor will verify your reporting by checking your business. The audit will be carried out online (via video call) or on-site, alternating every 2-3 years.

Benefits of participation

Financial benefits.

By participating in the Good Travel Seal , your business will save on energy and water consumption, as well as waste disposal costs. On top of that, the GTS also offers you a best-price guarantee on your engagement for 2 years . We don’t charge any registration cost .

Happier Guests = Higher Ratings

Certified businesses receive better reviews and ratings. Happier guests and higher ratings will bring you more visitors. This proves that certification boosts both the management and the quality of services.

Show What You Do

Another benefit of the Good Travel Seal is our full transparency. You will be able to show your customers in which areas you do well. A label alone is not enough, but showing your overall performance is a great strategy!

Environment Efficiency

Certified businesses use 19% less water, produce 24% less waste and 10% less CO2 than non-certified businesses. This is good not only for the environment, but also for the company’s profits.

Promotion & Visibility

Traditional certification programs are not promoting your business. With the Good Travel Seal , your business will be featured in the Good Travel Guide , Sustainable First , Ecohotels.com , Tourism 2030 and Booking.com , providing travellers with easy ways to explore the sustainable offering of destinations.

15 Best Luggage Tags for Airline Travel

Luggage tags are a small but mighty piece of gear that can keep your items safe while traveling. Here’s a list to help you find the best luggage tag for you.

15 Best Luggage Tags for Airline Travel

If you’re bringing luggage, you don’t want to lose it. If the worst should happen and your bag ends up missing, a luggage tag is an excellent way to ensure it comes back to you. Even if you only head to the airport with a travel backpack or daypack, adding identification to your checked bag or carry-on is a good idea to ensure it doesn’t end up in the wrong place.

This list will cover many types of luggage tags, from classic-looking leather options to modern models that can carry a tracking device. Before choosing the best luggage tag for you, it’s best to determine what pack you’re taking and what you want from your identification.

Do you want something vibrant that will stick out in the baggage line, something sleek that will blend in with your pack, something classic you can write on, or something that can accommodate modern technology? Once you’ve figured that out, it’s time to dive in!

Away The Luggage Tag

Why We Like It: It folds to keep your personal details concealed.

What You Should Know: Subtle colorways can be hard to see.

When searching for the best luggage tags to meet the needs of your next trip, keeping your personal information safe probably came up. Sometimes, a simple folding label is all you need. The Away Luggage Tags fold in the center to ensure your address and phone number aren't displayed to the world. Plus, there are a few fun colorways to choose from.

It comes with a paper sheet to write your information inside, or you can print something on your printer at home. This luggage tag is crafted from leather, which looks and feels professional. The attachment strap isn't attached to the tag itself, which makes putting it on more straightforward, but it means there's a chance you could lose it in between trips.

Finding your luggage is a lot easier with suitcase tags like these, whether you're traveling for work or pleasure.

RIMOWA Luggage Tag

Why We Like It: Lots of colorway options.

What You Should Know: If you pick a vibrant color, it might not match your luggage.

If you’re looking for something as vibrant as your personality, look no further than the Rimowa Luggage Tag. At the time of writing, there are nine colorway options, many of which are fun and eye-catching. Choosing something this distinctive makes it easy to find your bag at the luggage claim; however, if you update your bag, you run the risk of clashing colors.

These luggage identifiers don’t come with a piece of paper to write your information onto and slot back inside, which is a bummer. However, the Nappa leather is sleek, they’re crafted in Italy, and you can customize what information you want on the identifier if you make it yourself.

If you want something to brighten your mood at the airport baggage claim, these might be the best luggage tags for you!

MIFFLIN Luggage Tag

Why We Like It: Simple design at a budget price.

What You Should Know: Not unique looking, long-term durability concerns.

If you’re traveling with a group or have multiple pieces of luggage you want to tag, the best luggage tags for you are probably budget-friendly. The Mifflin tags come in various pack sizes and colors to meet your needs. The materials are hard plastic that scuffs up reasonably easily. However, coming in at under $10 for three, we aren’t too surprised.

These little cute luggage tags come with a piece of paper to write your information on, so all you need is a writing utensil. The attachment loops give us longevity concerns; however, we haven’t broken any so far.

If you’re looking for luggage tags on a budget, look no further.

ban.do Getaway Suitcase Tag

Why We Like It: Fun colorways and designs.

What You Should Know: Not many minimalist options.

Even if you opt for a minimalist-looking rolling luggage set, there’s nothing wrong with spicing up your life with a vibrant design. The ban.do Getaway Leather Luggage Tag comes in a handful of fun patterns, some of which have fun sayings. They’re crafted from vegan leather, so no animal products were used to create them.

If you want minimalism over everything, these might not be the best luggage tags for you. However, for folks who like finding gear that makes them stand out in the crowd, ban.do has some cute luggage tags you might enjoy. Personal favorites in the office are Rainbow Stripe and Superbloom!

Theys come with a slip to write your information on, and it’s covered by a piece of material that secures with a button, so your digits aren’t out there in the world while you’re exploring it.

Longchamp Le Foulonne Leather Luggage Tag

Why We Like It: The leather grain is sleek but professional.

What You Should Know: The leather look isn’t for everyone.

If you’re looking for the best luggage tags that look professional and come in a handful of colorways, check out the Longchamp LE FOULONNÉ Leather Luggage Tag. The matte leather exterior looks sleek and fun to play with while waiting to check your bag.

The tag secures using a pin buckle. The strap doesn’t feel super durable; however, we’ve had no issues with it breaking. There’s no paper to write your name on included, so you’ll have to make your own. This takes some time but ensures you can maximize the space and only put the information you want to on there.

For a fancier look, these are some of the best luggage tags for airline travel!

Travelambo Faux Leather Luggage Tag

Why We Like It: Budget price and loads of colorway options.

What You Should Know: Long-term durability concerns.

Sometimes simplicity is all you need, especially when searching for the best luggage tag for you. The Travelambo Luggage Tags offer a basic design that’s easy to use and comes at a budget-friendly price.

At the time of writing, there are three dozen color options, ranging from black to sparkly pink. The packs come with two, so you can share one with your partner or save one for later if your first one breaks.

At less than $10, durability is bound to be an issue. However, we have no problems to report so far. They’re not well suited for more durable adventures but will work for most other trips.

Boarding Pass NYC A Pair of Custom Brown Leather Luggage Tags

If you’re looking for a set of custom luggage tags that will make you the envy of all the travelers waiting to check their bags in, look no further than the Boarding Pass Custom Leather Luggage Tags. There are a few colors, so you can find a model that fits your vibe.

Your luggage will stand out if it isn’t as fancy as the tag. However, we’ve found they go well with many travel backpacks we’ve reviewed here at Pack Hacker. Plus, you can customize them with your information, so you don’t have to worry about writing everything down.

If you change your address, you will have to get new tags. However, if you keep the same phone number, you can put that only on the leather. If you’re looking for something unique, these might be the best luggage tags for you.

Apple AirTag Leather Loop

Why We Like It: You can track your luggage anywhere.

What You Should Know: Easy for thieves to see.

In the modern technological age, you don’t necessarily need to write anything down to make your luggage easy to find. With the rise of tracking devices, you can attach one to your luggage to ensure you know where it is from boarding to pickup. This AirTag luggage tag is easy to use and durable for your next adventure.

It’s crafted from leather, with a sleek look that feels just as comfortable in first class as in the back of a pickup truck. The AirTag isn’t included, so you’ll have to purchase that too.

If you don’t want to place it on the pack’s exterior, you can put it inside your bag instead. Plus, once you arrive, you can attach your AirTag to other gear you don’t want to lose, like your daypack or sling .

TUMI Accent Kit

Why We Like It: Comes with everything you need to help you find your luggage.

What You Should Know: A bit pricey for what you get.

If you’re looking for more than just a set of luggage tags, Tumi has you covered. Their Accent Kit has two monogram patches, a leather handle wrap, a luggage tag, and eight leather zipper pulls. They all match—so your gear will go together nicely.

If you only want the luggage tag, getting the set isn’t the most economical option. However, for those looking to take their pack customization level at the airport game to the next level, look no further. It’s a little pricey for something simple, but sometimes the small things are worth paying for.

The set is designed to work with Tumi luggage but will work with most travel backpacks and daypacks.

WaterField Designs AirTag Leather Luggage Tag

Why We Like It: It can hold an AirTag and your personal information.

What You Should Know: Not a lot of variety when it comes to colorways.

If you’re set on having a classic-looking luggage tag but want the modern conveniences of an AirTag, the Waterfield AirTag Leather Luggage Tag was made for you. In addition to having your information on a placard, there’s a dedicated spot to stow your AirTag so that you know your luggage made it onto the plane, when it starts spinning around the baggage area, and where it went off to should it be stolen.

The tag is crafted from leather, which is durable, looks sleek, and is comfortable to hold. Your personal information is hidden behind a flap of leather that secures so nobody can look you up without a bit of effort. Plus, there are a few leather colors to choose from, so you can find the best luggage tags for your style. The variety isn’t anything to write home about, but we’re happy enough with Waterfield’s high-quality leather materials.

This model is relatively large; however, it doesn’t feel too bulky when on your pack. The added peace of mind of knowing where your luggage is at all times is worth the extra grams it adds onto your back!

Kate Spade Cat I.D. Clip

Why We Like It: It’s a cat.

What You Should Know: Long-term durability might not hold up.

You might not be able to take your cats on your next trip, but you can keep them close by in spirit. The Kate Spade Cat I.d. Clip is technically designed to hold your identification card; however, it can be used as a luggage tag on the exterior or interior of your pack. The design is fun, and the odds are low that anyone else will have the same luggage tag at the baggage claim.

You’ll have to make your own information card, either by hand or with a printer, which you can design to feature pictures or drawings of your cat, so anyone who finds it knows why your bag sounds like it has dozens of exotic cat toys inside. We’re a little skeptical of the durability of the connector, but we haven’t had any issues in testing so far.

If you’re a cat lover, this might be one of the best luggage tags available for you.

Sodsay Plastic Luggage Tag

Why We Like It: Budget-friendly and comes in bulk, so you have enough for the whole family.

If you’re bringing the whole family on your next trip and want to ensure you have luggage tags for everyone, the Sodsay Baggage ID Label Tags are worth looking at. There are ten in a package, so there’s enough for everyone. It’s a simple design: a thin piece of plastic that enables you to see the information written on the included card when you’re close.

When you’re further away, it’s harder to decipher what’s written, which is an excellent security feature. The tags feel durable enough; however, we’re uncertain how long the attachment loop will last. No issues to report yet, though!

There are a handful of colorways available. The brighter options are ideal for those who want to be able to see their luggage when it rolls around the baggage claim. The black option is sleek, which we dig aesthetically.

Whichever you go with, these luggage tags won’t break the bank and will ensure you can prepare the whole family!

Ovener Silicone Luggage Tag

Why We Like It: Comes with multiple tags and has multiple colorway options

What You Should Know: The design can be seen as childish

If you’ve poked around Amazon while looking for the best luggage tags for your next trip, you’ve probably come across the Ovener Silicone Luggage Tag. They’re well-reviewed, come in a plethora of colorways, and are budget-friendly. Plus, the metal attachment is more durable than the leather or plastic options we’ve seen elsewhere.

There’s a small plane cutout on one side and a small slit for your name on the other. The silicone exterior material covers the rest of your information so that nobody can see your sensitive information. The exterior can pick up dust, but it’s straightforward to clean and take care of on the road.

The airplane design could be seen as childish, but we think it’s a fun way to get you in the mood for your next trip and ensures you know what it is if you find it out of context in your apartment. At the price, it’s hard to find a better simple option.

Famavala Luggage Tag

Why We Like It: Unique colorway and design options.

What You Should Know: The metal attachment ring can be hard to use.

If you want your luggage tags to be as out of this world as traveling feels, the Famavala Luggage Tags are up your alley. The colorways are vibrant, trippy, and fun to look at, which will brighten your trip to the airport and add personality to your pack. With six options to choose from at the time of writing, you can find one that works for you.

The materials feel cheaper than the premium leather models we’ve tested in the past; however, you can’t go wrong with the price. We haven’t had any durability issues, which is essential to note. The metal fastener is robust and ensures the tag won’t fall off your pack, but the screw can be hard to use if you have larger hands or struggle with small objects.

The tag comes with a piece of paper to write your information on, so you don’t have to make your own, which we dig. From Bluesky to Skystar, the Famavala Luggage Tags might be the best luggage tags for you.

CPACC Aluminum Luggage Tag

Why We Like It: Durability is top-notch, and the price is spectacular.

What You Should Know: Corners are a little sharp.

Here at Pack Hacker HQ, we’ve been using CPACC Aluminum Luggage Tags for over a year. For what, you might ask? Well, that’s top-secret intel. Pack Hacker Pro Members are invited to visit us here at HQ, so your chances of getting security clearance rise dramatically if you join!

Silliness aside, these tags are durable and easy to see, thanks to their vibrant colorway. The aluminum and steel construction can handle the most rugged adventures, whether you’re crossing the desert or climbing a mountain. Similar to other metal ring attachments, it can be hard to open and close them if you have larger hands. Luckily, once you attach it, the ring won’t come undone until you unscrew it again.

A budget price and durable construction make these one of the best luggage tags on the market!

So there you have it; some of the best luggage tags to take on your next trip. Whether you’re looking for something basic or a model that works with modern technology, hopefully, you’ve found your pick!

travel life label

I know that it is entirely possible to simply use a sharpie to mark what is inside of your travel container bottles, but sometimes, I like to do things just so it will look good. I know, I’m so shallow.

I created these travel bottles, with these labels when I was headed to a blogging conference last year. I was probably inspired to show my best self, because hanging out with other bloggers is incredibly intimidating. I’m sure these travel bottles that no one saw really gave me that extra boost of confidence. It can be exhausting being me.

When I wanted to make these labels, I searched for waterproof labels because a lot of these bottles are used in wet circumstances. I found these labels on Amazon. There weren’t a ton of options, but these have done pretty okay. After many trips and uses since I’ve made them, they don’t look like “new” anymore, but they’ve held up 100% better than regular labels with Sharpie (which I’ve tried in the past).

If you’re into traveling stylishly, then these labels are a must. 😉

Download the printable with travel container labels (for personal use only).

What To Put On A Luggage Tag (Complete Guide)

Let’s face it, there is nothing worse than losing your luggage when traveling. It downright sucks, and even more so when you are only going on a short vacation.

If there is any way to avoid your luggage being lost or help it be found, doing it is a good idea and that is where luggage tags come in.

But, what information should be on your luggage tag? It needs to be enough to help the airline but not so much in case your bag gets stolen.

Join me as I run through exactly what and what not to put on your luggage tags.

What Should You Put On Your Luggage Tag?

Samsonite Centric Hardside Expandable Luggage with Spinner Wheels, Blue Slate, Checked-Large 28-Inch

You should put enough information on your luggage tag so your lost luggage can be identified quickly and sent to your final destination.

You should write the following on your luggage tag:

  • Your name, in initial and surname format (J Hoover for example)
  • Your email address – use a different one from your main account
  • Your mobile phone number with country code

This amount of luggage tag info allows the airline to know the bag is yours and put it on the next flight to your destination. They can also contact you via your email or phone number to let you know they have found it and that it is on the way to you.

It is advisable to add the luggage tag to both your check-in baggage and your carry-on luggage. The reason to add it to your carry-on bags is in case the airline makes you check them in at the gate.

What Should You Not Put On Your Luggage Tag?

Luggage tags usually go on the outside of your bag so that the bag can be identified without a person having to go through your bag. But, this means your luggage tag info is available for anyone to see if they want to.

Do not put your home address or home phone number on your luggage tag info. If someone sees your home address on your bag tag, they know where your house is and that it is empty for a while.

No one wants to leave baggage claim and get home to find their house has been robbed while they are on vacation.

Also, if someone knows your home address, cell phone number, home phone number, name, and email address, they know too much. This amount of data in the wrong hands can have devastating effects on one’s life.

What Should You Put On Your Child’s Luggage Tag?

AMERICAN TOURISTER Kids' Disney Softside Upright Luggage, Telescoping Handles, Frozen, Carry-On 18-Inch

Your child’s luggage tag should have your information on it, not the child’s – so the same information we discussed above, Name, email, and cell phone number.

The reasons for this are twofold. Firstly, your child isn’t going to be talking to the airline about their missing bag, that is going to be you. Secondly, you want to protect your child’s privacy and data as much as possible.

Why Should You Use A Luggage Tag?

When luggage gets lost in an airport it is normally due to the airline luggage tag coming off your luggage.

The airline luggage tag has all the information needed to get your bag to its destination including where it is going, what flight it should be on, and who it belongs to.

When the label comes off, for whatever reason, the airline then has no idea where the bag is meant to go or who owns it.

By adding your own luggage tag, you can help the airline quickly identify who the bag belongs to and where it should go, meaning your bag won’t be lost for very long.

So, why should you use a luggage tag? To help you get your luggage as quickly as possible if the airline luggage tag comes off during transit.

Luggage tags also help you identify your bags at the baggage carousel or bag stand. This decreases the chances of someone taking the wrong bag (which could be yours) with them.

Where Should You Put Your Luggage Tag?

The place to attach luggage tags is on the outside of your suitcase, especially if your suitcase locks. This allows people to identify your luggage without opening your luggage and finding lots of valuable things inside.

Some suitcases come with a special luggage tag holder. These are ideal as they are built-in meaning they can not be torn off by mistake during transit.

If your suitcase does not have one of these, add your luggage tag to the handle.

Can You Put A Smart Tag in Your Luggage?

Tile Pro 1-Pack. Powerful Bluetooth Tracker, Keys Finder and Item Locator for Keys, Bags, and More; Up to 400 ft Range. Water-Resistant. Phone Finder. iOS and Android Compatible.

Yes, you can put a smart tag in your luggage or on it. If you are using a smart tag that runs on batteries and provides you with the GPS location of your bag, make sure it is TSA Approved.

Other forms of smart tags are metal luggage tags. These luggage tags feature a QR code which when scanned, shows the scanner the information you have added.

This is super handy as you can change your information for each flight, and by adding the flight details, help the airline get you your missing bag as quickly as possible.

When using a smart GPS luggage tag , put the tag inside your suitcase. When using a smart QR luggage tag, put it on the outside of your bag so it can be easily scanned.

Other Tips For Using Luggage Tags

  • Never leave old airline tags or stickers on your bags. This only adds confusion as it increases the chances of your bag being lost in transit.
  • Do not write your nationality on your luggage tag. Not everyone likes all nationalities and you do not want to make your luggage a target.
  • Add a piece of paper with your name, email, and flight info inside your luggage. This helps the airline ID your bag and get it to you if both your exterior luggage tag and the airline luggage tag are pulled off.

Nebraska family advocates for lifesaving food allergy labels.

Preventing deadly food allergies: 'It's just scary. He can't breathe'

The latest breaking updates, delivered straight to your email inbox.

Kale Wietfeld is an 8-year-old who rarely eats food that hasn’t been prepared by his family. He cannot safely eat in restaurants. At school in Leigh, Nebraska, he sits alone at a lunch table set aside just for him.

“I get mad when I’m sitting at lunch at my own table, and they’re over there eating a lot of stuff that I can’t eat,” said Kale.

And there’s no sharing of food, birthday treats, snacks or bites of anything.

“I’m allergic to eggs, dairy, beef, and fish,” said Kale, who carries an emergency kit of EpiPens and inhalers everywhere he goes.

The family has had to use the lifesaving devices at least twice. Leigh is 90 miles northwest of Omaha, and the family said they are fortunate to have a community grocery store that stocks a variety of supplies, including almond milk.

Kale is one of 33 million Americans living with food allergies, and in his case, even a speck of eggs, dairy, or beef is life-threatening.

“It’s just scary. He can’t breathe, he has face swelling. And we’ve had a lot of unknowns, too. Why is he having a reaction?” said his mom, Emily Wietfeld.

The family learned about the boy’s allergies when he was just five months old, and they gave him a Cheeto, which is made with dairy products.

“His face turned bright red, and the next thing I know, he was just vomiting,” said Emily.

When his family started closely monitoring his food and reading labels, they realized a glaring problem. Prescription medication and over-the-counter drugs are not required by law to include all non-active ingredients, like fillers.

Once, a doctor's office administered a common asthma inhaler, which resulted in a severe allergic reaction that put Kale in the hospital for several days. The drug included a dairy product as a filler.

On the way to the hospital, in the ambulance, Emily did a search on her phone and discovered the secret ingredient.

“Nothing is listed on any drug, any toothpaste, any soap,” said Emily. The family started advocating for change and reaching out to their congressional representative, Mike Flood.

“As a parent, you’ve got to manage all these things, and on top of it, you’ve got a little boy with allergies that are life or death,” said Flood.

The family has made two trips to help rally for change. Kale even proudly sat at Flood’s desk with a huge smile on his face.

“Kale is super cute. He came into my office in Washington with his whole family. You see Kale, how fun, how vibrant he is,” said Food.

The family is part of a group of advocates supporting a bill called the ADINA Act. It calls for drug manufacturers to identify and list the top nine allergens on consumer labels. Those allergens include milk, fish, shellfish, eggs, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, soy and sesame.

“This bill that they brought me, that I’m a co-sponsor of, it just essentially says the pharmacist has to mark which allergens may be in the medication so that parents aren’t guessing,” said Flood.

Emily gets emotional talking about her daily concerns.

“I constantly worry. In my house, anywhere I go. I worry, and I’m scared. And I’ve been through it, and it’s traumatizing,” she said through tears.

Emily finds strength in knowing that her community, school, and family is well-aware of Kale’s allergies and they are constantly monitoring his safety. She believes this bill and the resulting changes will also positively impact Kale as he grows up.

He sees doctors and specialists in Omaha. Pork is the only animal protein he can safely eat.

“He’s strong. He’s resilient. He bounces back,” she said.

The bipartisan bill has 42 sponsors and Flood sees nothing getting in the way of it becoming law, except perhaps time, this year.

Hospitality Trends Through the Lens of Travel Influencers

From van life and solo female travel to “must-have” travel essentials, discover key insights for hospitality and travel from travel influencers on Instagram.

Influencers are changing the way consumers interact with brands, and the hospitality industry is no exception.

Consumers are increasingly scrolling on social media to research and purchase products and experiences related to travel. And to do so, they often turn to their favorite travel influencers – whose opinions and recommendations they trust.

So, what are travel influencers talking about right now? And what can hospitality brands learn from these conversations? Let’s find out.

Methodology

For this research, we used Brandwatch Influence to identify over 800 top travel influencers on Instagram, each with over 20k followers and posting in English. We also used Brandwatch Consumer Research for deeper audience analysis, looking into the posts shared by these authors.

Travel influencers: A look at the online conversation

We used Brandwatch’s AI-powered Topic Cloud to look at the top phrases commonly shared by influencers in their posts on Instagram.

Brandwatch image

Right away you can see themes like “road trip,” “recreational vehicle,” “campervan,” and “van-dwelling.” These all help to indicate topics which travel brands can utilize in their own marketing efforts.

We also looked at the top 10 most shared hashtags, and #vanlife and #rvlife made the list.

Brandwatch image

Living the van life

Many travel influencers have embraced the freedom of life on the road, exploring the world by living for extended periods in converted vans, cars, or trucks. They document their experiences, joys, and challenges, and share detailed updates with their followers on Instagram.

In one Instagram Reels – that gathered over 106k likes – travel content creator Laura Capel asks her followers to comment “freedom” to get her Dolomites guide, which covers things to do, eat, and see in the region.

This quirky engagement hack helps creators boost their comments and message requests, thus boosting their posts in Instagram’s algorithm. It’s a good tactic for brands to take onboard too.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Laura Capel (@laurastravl)

Another Instagram post by a different travel creator saw the highest reach for #vanlife, scoring over 628k likes on Instagram.

Brandwatch image

Jake Doggett has been living and traveling in his van for over three months. In his Reels – which, based on Brandwatch Influence, receive on average 8.5k engagements – Jake frequently discusses technical issues he runs into with his van, sharing solutions and asking for advice from his followers.

Jake also talks about campsite building projects and has a list of gear and product recommendations, linking to specific items and brands from his Instagram bio.

Sharing in-depth knowledge with your followers is a great way to prove yourself as a knowledgeable brand – just like Jake does.

What can travel brands learn from this?

Niche content creators, like those living the van life, captivate large audiences of like-minded, highly engaged consumers. Their conversations often include brand testing in real-life settings and personal recommendations, making their platforms an ideal space for authentic marketing built on consumer trust.

By collaborating with influencers like Laura Capel and Jake Doggett, travel brands can tap into genuine conversations, fostering deeper connections with a highly engaged audience.

Travel influencers step up their travel tips game

We dug into one of the most used hashtags in influencer posts on Instagram, #traveltips and identified several popular themes in conversations. Among those were low-cost airlines, tips on public transportation, SIM cards, clothing, coffee shops, tricks for more comfort on long flights, and must-have items for every trip.

Brandwatch image

Packing like a pro is packing light

In posts related to packing, travel content creators often shared packing tips for efficient and light travel, leaning heavily toward carry-on.

Brandwatch image

Mentions relating to traveling light grew 6% compared to the previous six months. This uptick in mentions suggests a growing focus on efficient packing among travel influencers.

We also spotted mentions of capsule wardrobes and versatile clothing, compression packing cubes, and other strategies to maximize space and organization in travel bags.

Here are the “must-have” items frequently mentioned by travel influencers in their posts on Instagram.

  • Warm clothing item(s)
  • Appropriate footwear
  • Backpack
  • Travel documents
  • Personal care products
  • Sunscreen
  • Water bottle
  • Snacks
  • Credit card
  • Swimsuit

Brands looking to acquire new audiences should find a way to get on those recommended lists by collaborating with influencers and creating products that align or cater to the needs of travelers.

Solo female travelers share their tips with other women

We also looked at what was trending in travel tips-related conversations.

Brandwatch image

The solo travel trend that we wrote about in our recent blog on trends in travel and hospitality , was a major topic for travel bloggers on Instagram.

According to a recent study, 64% of travelers worldwide are female , while only 36% are male. And this trend is growing .

Discover more insights on solo travel and beyond in our new report.

Based on Google Trends, over the last five years, the search interest for “solo female travel” has grown steadily – after an obvious dip during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Brandwatch image

On Instagram, some of the "solo female traveler” posts mentioned women-only group trips. Other influencers shared how and where to travel solo on a budget and as a woman, and how to be safe on those trips.

Growing trends like female solo travel present a valuable opportunity for brands to adjust their strategies and offerings to better cater to niche audiences.

For example, travel brands aiming to attract solo travelers can focus on offering practical, space-saving products that align with the overall trend of efficient packing and versatile gear, while partnering with influencers to promote these essentials.

Roundup

Travel influencers are shaping the future of hospitality by driving new trends, like van life, minimalist packing, and solo travel. Their influence and content are changing how consumers plan, pack, and experience their travels.

Tapping into these influencer-driven conversations can help your brand:

  • Align your offerings with current consumer needs and preferences
  • Build trust through authentic recommendations
  • Reach highly- engaged, niche audiences with targeted marketing efforts
