We arrived to find a new, intimate camp set against the stunning backdrop of Mt Kilimanjaro. This a peaceful location with baboons and zebras wandering around in full view. The camp is small and simple, and work to construct new features was in progress. My tent was spacious, clean and well-equipped. The staff were welcoming and friendly. No request was too much trouble and they patiently answered many questions. The food was tasty and there was plenty of variety…Happy to recommend this for a peaceful getaway.

Tulia Amboseli Safari Camp (formerly Zebra Plains Amboseli) is an eco-friendly safari camp located in the area of Amboseli National Park , next to the Kimana Gate Park entrance. The camp offers stunning views of Africa’s highest mountain, the legendary Mount Kilimanjaro . Tulia camp lies 250 km south (four hours drive, one hour flight time) of Nairobi and close to the Tanzanian border and Mount Kilimanjaro. ‘Tulia’ is Swahili for ‘Calm’ and ‘Peaceful’. The camp is a little oasis with the amazing views on Mount Kilimanjaro (Africa’s highest mountain) and waterhole. You can  either be in the park by road or  air  transport which takes about  240km  driving  Nairobi -arusha road through Meshanani gate and 228Km on Nairobi -mombasa road  and 45 minutes to fly from Nairobi to close airstrip amboseli . Tulia Amboseli safari camp consists of 20 beautiful and comfortable raised tents overlooking the amazing view of Mt. There’s a new menu daily, filled with fruits and veggies from the onsite ‘shamba’ (Swahili for kitchen garden) and the local market.

Additionally, the shamba is not the only eco friendly feature. Since its renovation in 2021, this camp solely runs on solar power. There is a system for wastewater, it has filtered drinking water and it even cools the harvest in an eco friendly charcoal cooler. About the camp

Spread over lush greenery, ample space for privacy and a chance to relax and rejuvenate, Tulia Amboseli safari camp offers spacious tents, each with an unobstructed and stunning view of Mt. Kilimanjaro.  Besides, all rooms feature furniture and décor that has been sourced locally and crafted by local seasoned artisans.  All our accommodation options comprise of bathroom amenities such as plush towels, fans, free wifi and a walk in shower. Capturing the essence of this landscape, the camp’s rooms offer views of the tallest mountain in Africa, Mt. Kilimanjaro. As a result, the guests leave feeling inspired and ready to plan their next trip to the Amboseli. The camp offers you an experience of serenity while on safari.

Superb tents

The superb tents have covered patios with comfortable safari chairs and incredible views of Mt. Kilimanjaro. Therefore, they are perfect for viewing the game at the waterhole and enjoying the sunset. Enjoy the luxury queen size bed, blanket chest, writing desk and ensuite 3-piece bathroom with 24-hour hot and cold running water. Besides, a single bed can be added upon request.

Deluxe rooms

The deluxe safari tents have a large deck and their own plunge pool sunken into the large front deck. In addition, the tents offer one queen or two twin beds, a sitting area, desk, large bathroom with toilet, double sinks and shower. Relax and watch the game at the hole from your large front deck or in your own plunge pool with Mt. Kilimanjaro as a backdrop.

Drinks in the bush

Arrive just prior to sunset, enjoy drinks and bitings at a camp fire as the sun sets on your magical African day, all while Mt. Kilimanjaro looks over you.

Private dinner

Special occasions or moments can be celebrated with a private dinner on your tent patio. Also, dinner under the stars with a view of Mt. Kilimanjaro and animals offers the most romantic setting for a special meal.

Village visit

The local Maasai community welcomes guests to visit their traditional village. Besides, you will learn about the Maasai, visit their homes.

Tulia Amboseli safari camp is located just outside of Amboseli national park in Kenya. Travel by vehicle is a 5-hour drive from both Nairobi and Mombasa.

Directions for travel by road

Head south from Mombasa Road on C102. Turn right onto C103 to Amboseli national park. Just before arriving at Kimana gate, take the last road on the right. Follow this road to the end where it turns right and heads into the camp.

Airstrip pick up/drop off

Airstrip pick up and drop off can be arranged in advance, if required.

Standard gauge railway pick up/drop off

Standard gauge railway pick up and drop off at Emali station can be arranged.
