Exclusive Shore Excursions and Cultural Immersion
Beyond the superficial comforts of the cruise ship, Mekong River cruises offer meticulously designed excursions that immerse travelers deeply in local culture and history. Each unique excursion invites guests to explore everything from ancient jungle-bound temples to bustling markets teeming with life.
Travelers have the opportunity to interact with local artisans, enjoy traditional performances, and participate in hands-on workshops that showcase crafts passed down through generations along the Mekong. These tours are not only engaging but also responsible and respectful toward local communities, making them ideal for the socially conscious traveler.
Harmony and Wellbeing on the River
Many cruisers like the Mekong River for the simple reason that being there lets them shut down and refocus. The wellness options on board typically more than do justice to this, with a long list of treatments all echoing Asian healing practices and the use of all-natural and locally sourced ingredients. Pre-dawn yoga and meditation sessions offer a tranquil beginning each morning with views across the rising sun over the Mekong.
With such facilities on board, fitness enthusiasts can continue with their okayed routines even aboard the vessel, while the sleepy-heads are off seeking the solace of the ship’s library or generally spaces designed to offer them comfort and tranquillity. This well-balanced blend of wellness activities offers every ennobled traveler a pace to find their style of relaxation.
Sustainable and Eco-Friendly Travel
More and more, Mekong River cruises incorporate sustainability in their operations to preserve the ecological and cultural integrity of the river. Adoption for lowering impact includes state-of-the-art water treatment systems, energy-efficient technologies, and practices in waste reduction.
In fact, it also continues to help the visitors understand more about the river’s ecological and social composition and creates an appreciation and respect for the destinations they visit along the course of the river. Opting for an environmentally friendly Mekong River cruise would mean making a small contribution to these efforts behind the scenes in making the conservation and preservation of this unique ecosystem possible.
The Mekong River cruise seamlessly blends exploration, relaxation, and luxury, making it one of the finest travel experiences available.
Elegant and thoughtfully curated, a cruise through the heart of Southeast Asia is more than just a journey—it’s an experience that enriches your soul, delights your senses, and creates memories that will last a lifetime.

- Off-the-beaten-path route : From 2 to 11 days, the cruise itinerary will let you admire all the hidden gems of the mighty Mekong, including local workshops, floating markets, fruit orchards, temples & pagodas, etc.
- Cultural immersion : Let's take a chance to engage in the traditional life on waterways, unique cultures from diverse countries, and genuine people.
Normally, the river cruise in Mekong lasts from 2 days to 11 days.
- 2 - 3 days : On a budget of US $194 - $908, you can visit 2 - 3 attractions in the Mekong Delta of Vietnam.
- 4 - 8 days : From US $675 to $4560, the cruise takes you to visit 4 - 8 attractions between Vietnam (Saigon/ Can Tho) and Cambodia (Siem Reap/ Phnom Penh).
- 9 - 11 days : Spending US $1618 - $4572, you can explore the upper Mekong, between Laos (Vientiane/ Luang Prabang) and Thailand (Chiang Khong/ Chiang Rai).
The best month to take a Mekong River cruise is from November to April next year, an ideal time during the dry season. There are lower chances of rain and cooler temperatures. So that you can enjoy offboard activities and beautiful sightseeing.
Based on service quality, cruise program, and budget, we have hand-picked the best river cruise in Mekong for different star ratings.
For more details, please contact our travel consultant to choose the best one and experience your wonderful cruise now.
On average, the price of a cruise trip on the Mekong River ranges between US $194 and US $4,500 per passenger, specifically:
- 1 - 2 nights : US $194 - $908/pax
- 3 - 6 nights : US $675 - $4,560/pax

- Vietnam : Can Tho, Ho Chi Minh City
- Cambodia : Phnom Penh, Siem Reap
- Laos : Luang Prabang, Huay Xai
Vietnam to Cambodia cruise has 2 directions:
- Upstream departing from Vietnam (Saigon to Siem Reap/Phnom Penh)
- Downstream departing from Cambodia (Siem Reap/Phnom Penh to Saigon)
Since both offer similar destinations and experiences onboard, the only difference is which start/ end points are most convenient for your international flight and your travel plan after the cruise.
Both low water (mid-Nov to end-Aug) and high water (end-Aug to mid-Nov) have similar onshore excursions but the sequence may differ.
The main distinction is that the water levels only influence the itinerary in Cambodia (between Siem Reap and Phnom Penh), while the Vietnam itinerary is unchanged.
In particular, Mekong River cruises can make a lake crossing in the high-water season and visit many attractions in Tonle Sap. Ships can also dock directly at the Siem Reap pier. During low water season, the dock will be located at Kampong Cham.
Note: The exact dates of the high and low seasons are determined by rainfall and water levels each year. Mekong cruise lines will adjust their schedules on short notice.
The dresscode for Mekong River cruise is lightweight and smart casual clothes. To be more specific, you should take notice of these followings:
- Choose summer and autumn outfits due to the tropical climate in Mekong
- Dress "more than casual," such as a collared shirt for men and a dressy top for women, on some special nights
- Wear comfortable shoes or sandals since you have to walk on uneven surfaces and cobblestones during offshore excursions

The suites are amazing, and the food is fantastic for the trip. The crew is also quite entertaining.
Our guide, captain, and chef all made us feel like at home and cared for. Stunning beauty, informative - there is so much to see and learn. As vegans, the staff made sure we were sufficiently fed, and the meals were all five-star. Nothing was too much hassle. We definitely recommend this tour to friends!
Thank you so much, we had a great time during the cruise. The food was nice. The scenery of the Mekong River is outstanding. My kids really like the Apsara dance during the gala at night. Overall a memorable experience for us. Very nice!!

Hi, I was hoping you could assist me with a booking. I am looking to do a cruise for 3nights/4days while I am in Ho Chi Minh City for work. I am looking forward to the 12th of April to start the cruise. I do want a ship that has a private balcony, perhaps some cultural entertainment at night and spa services. I like the idea of upstream, as I love tropical beaches, etc but also love the idea of the markets on the river, etc. What are your recommendations? I look forward to hearing back from you. I will be travelling on my own. I was looking at this one, however, just wondering about transit since I will be flying in and out of Ho Chi Minh City.
Hi! According to your request. We suggest you should book RV Mekong Princess Cruise Upstream 3 days: Saigon - Can Tho and then return to HCMC for departure flight by private car or shuttle bus.
Or else, you can book a Mekong Delta 3 day tour package to explore more in this area.
As you only have a few days and departure from HCMC, it isn't recommended to have a cruise tour to Cambodia as you don't have enough time. Also, there's no option for cruise with beach in itinerary from HCMC

Life in Ho Chi Minh City is lived in public: on the back of motorcycles, on the sidewalks, and in the parks. Even when its residents are at home, they're still on display. With many living rooms opening onto the street, grandmothers napping, babies being rocked, and food being prepared, are all in full view of passersby.Icons of the past endure in the midst of the city’s headlong rush into capitalism. The Hotel Continental, immortalized in Graham Greene's The Quiet American, continues to stand on the corner of old Indochina's most famous thoroughfare, the rue Catinat, known to American G.I.s during the Vietnam War as Tu Do (Freedom) Street and renamed Dong Khoi (Uprising) Street by the Communists. The city still has its ornate opera house and its old French city hall, the Hôtel de Ville. The broad colonial boulevards leading to the Saigon River and the gracious stucco villas are other remnants of the French colonial presence. Grisly reminders of the more recent past can be seen at the city's war-related museums. Residents, however, prefer to look forward rather than back and are often perplexed by tourists' fascination with a war that ended 40 years ago.The Chinese influence on the country is still very much in evidence in the Cholon district, the city's Chinatown, but the modern office towers and international hotels that mark the skyline symbolize Vietnam's fixation on the future.

Your cruise continues to sail to Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia. The morning excursion takes you to Oudong, Cambodia’s former royal capital from the early 17th century until 1866. Today, Oudong is a place of pilgrimage for Cambodians. While here, be treated to a memorable Buddhist Blessing Ceremony at a monastery. You may walk around Oudong’s monastery or take an active walking tour to see panoramic views of the Oudong plain. After visiting Oudong, be treated to a truly authentic excursion, an oxcart ride through a local village Kampong Tralach. Later in the day, experience Phnom Penh via a tuk tuk ride and be enchanted by the city's French Colonial architecture and tree-lined boulevards set amidst monumental Angkorian architecture, or continue your visit to Wat Phnom, a famous landmark of Phnom Penh. After returning to the ship, enjoy Khmer folk dancing performed by local children in the Saigon Lounge.
Begin your morning exploration of the Angkor temple complex at Angkor Thom, meaning “the great city." This is home to Bayon Temple, best known for its gigantic smiling stone faces, as well as the Terrace of the Elephants and the Terrace of the Leper King. You’ll then visit nearby Ta Prohm, known as the “Kingdom of Trees,” for the way in which the temple stones have become intertwined with thick forest vegetation over the centuries. Afternoon excursions take you to the fascinating jewel in the crown of Angkorian art, Banteay Srei, meaning “Citadel of Women,” as it has been said that the carving is too fine to have been done by the hand of man. Cap this memorable day off with a special “Apsara Dance Show” at your hotel, featuring local Cambodian/Khmer folk dancers.
Enjoy a visit to Tan Chau, a small Mekong River town unspoiled by tourism. Be treated to an authentic experience on a traditional “xe-loi” (trishaw) ride around the town, with stops at silk-making and rattan mat workshops. You may also choose the trishaw ride with visits to craftsmen’s workshops, followed by an active walking tour to “Evergreen Island.” As a third alternative, explore the stunning Mekong Delta on an intimate tour through Vietnam's Tra Su Forest and Sanctuary. Board a traditional sampan boat and glide through this diverse ecosystem that includes more than 70 species of birds, including the painted stork and oriental darter, and lush greenery encompassing majestic cajuput trees, lotuses, water lilies and a carpet of bright green moss in the rainy season that appears to glow as you gently drift through it. Later in the day, cruise to Sa Dec
Once ashore in Sa Dec, tour the town where French writer Marguerite Duras spent many years in her youth. Visit a colorful local market and Cao Dai Temple, home to the unique religion of Caodaism in Southern Vietnam. It is a fusion of Buddhism, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism and Confucianism. You will have an opportunity to visit candy and rice paper making workshops, or you may also choose to add an active walking tour to the historic Kiet Old House and cap the day off with a festive Farewell Dinner on board.
