Razer Mamba Tournament Edition Review — Quick and Deadly

The Razer Mamba Tournament Edition is a comfortable and colorful companion for PC gamers, featuring intuitive, easy-to-use software and some very handy extra buttons.

Why you can trust Tom's Guide Our writers and editors spend hours analyzing and reviewing products, services, and apps to help find what's best for you. Find out more about how we test, analyze, and rate.

tour pc razer

The black mamba is one of the world's deadliest snakes, whose venomous bite can incapacitate an adult human in less than an hour. Razer 's Mamba Tournament Edition mouse ($90) is not likely to kill anyone, but it's sure to give your digital foes a good scare. Like its namesake, the Mamba is sleek and adaptable, with a shape that complements its skill set perfectly. Not only is the mouse comfortable and colorful, but it also works across a wide variety of genres thanks to smart placement of buttons.

At first, I wasn't sure why Razer needed to release the Mamba when the company's excellent DeathAdder mouse already exists. Like the DeathAdder, the Mamba is an ergonomic gaming mouse for righties that's designed to work across a wide variety of genres. On the surface, the only real difference is that the Mamba has two extra buttons right below the scroll wheel, which are good for adjusting dots-per-inch (DPI) sensitivity up and down.

MORE: Best Gaming Mice

Upon actually using the Mamba, though, I found a number of subtle and delightful differences. At 0.29 pounds, the Mamba feels a little more substantial than its DeathAdder cousin (0.23 pounds), although the two are the same size. The Mamba also features a larger padded area by the thumb and for the two outermost fingers, which helped me keep a better grip on the device. A much coarser scroll wheel on the Mamba also aids in the grip.

tour pc razer

The button layout on the two devices is similar, too. The Mamba possesses a left button, a right button, a scroll wheel that clicks three ways, two thumb buttons and two DPI buttons. Each one is programmable and easy to reach. I especially liked that the thumb buttons seem a bit larger and more responsive than the DeathAdder's.

tour pc razer

I have nothing negative to say about the Mamba's shape, design or functionality. It's an extremely comfortable mouse that feels great for both gaming and everyday scrolling. Just keep in mind that the Razer Mamba Tournament Edition is a strictly wired mouse; the Razer Mamba (with no extra descriptors) is the wireless version.

Like most other Razer products, the Mamba runs on the Synapse 2.0 software, which continues to be an excellent program that combines an intuitive interface, a bevy of features and an attractive design. Through this interface, you can program each one of the buttons, change DPI and other hardware options, and play with the extensive Chroma backlighting.

tour pc razer

It's extraordinarily simple to set up profiles for individual games and program different color schemes and buttons for each one. All you have to do is choose the game you want to link, then that game's program will automatically load up your preferred button and color scheme each time you open it. So many companies make this process much more difficult than it has to be, and Razer should be commended for taking the simplest possible approach.

The Mamba's biggest enhancement over other Razer mice is the sheer amount of Chroma-capable areas it has. Colorful LED strips surround the entire mouse. There are 16 total strips, which gives you an incredible wealth of options for what you can do with them. Most mice tend to give you between one and four customizable spots, so for the artistically inclined gamer, the Mamba is the way to go.

tour pc razer

However, as excellent as the color scheme is, it keep the mouse just shy of perfection. There is a small patch of darkness between the LED strips, leading to inconsistent lighting where one strip ends and another begins. When you have an animated pattern, this isn't noticeable, but if you (like me) enjoy having one solid color for each strip, it's a noticeable oversight that could have been fixed.

Performance

I ran the Mamba through Titanfall, StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void, Batman: Arkham Knight and Star Trek Online, and found that it worked very well with every game and genre tested. Gunning down futuristic mech pilots in Titanfall was as simple as driving the Batmobile through the streets of Gotham City. The ability to change my DPI on the fly was helpful in faster-paced games, while I was able to repurpose those buttons easily in games where speed was not of the essence.

MORE: Best Gaming Keyboards

I'll give my standard warning for all-purpose mice, which is that they're not ideal for high-level MMO play. You may want to invest in a mouse that has access to more buttons if you need to map an entire skill rotation to your thumb. However, four extra buttons should be more than enough for most players, especially when complemented by a keyboard. You're more likely to use the Mamba for an FPS or a MOBA than an MMO, but there's nothing really wrong with the mouse's performance in the latter category.

Bottom Line

The Razer Mamba Tournament Edition is large, comfortable, well-designed, versatile and pretty. There are no special tricks or gimmicks here, just a solid piece of engineering that does exactly what it sets out to do. Even the $90 price tag feels justified, thanks to the Mamba's extremely colorful lighting options and useful extra buttons.

The Mamba won't revolutionize the way you play games, but it just might epitomize it. That alone makes the peripheral well worth a look from any serious PC gamer in the market for a new mouse.

Bottom line

Want to play like the pros? The Razer Viper V3 Pro is the gaming mouse you’re looking for. The latest iteration of Razer’s top esports gaming mouse takes a design that was already great and updates it with incredibly low weight and a true wireless 8K polling rate. The result is a premium gaming mouse that doesn’t compromise on performance.

If you pick up a Viper V3 Pro, you’ll want to pair it with one of the top gaming keyboards to complete your setup. Alternatively, if you’re a mobile gamer, make sure to check out our guide to the best gaming laptops so you can use the Viper V3 Pro on the go.

Here’s an in-depth look at the Razer Viper V3 Pro, the new king of esports gaming mice.

Razer Viper V3 Pro: Price and specs

The Razer Viper V3 Pro unboxed

The Razer Viper V3 Pro is available in black or white for $159.99. In the box you get the ultralight wireless mouse, the hyperpolling dongle for 8K wireless polling, and a set of grip tape stickers.

The Viper V3 Pro measures 5.0 x 2.5 x 1.57 inches and weighs a mere 54 grams. It includes Razer’s Gen-3 Optical Mouse Switches, which have a lifespan of 90 million clicks. It has the Gen-2 Focus Pro 35K Optical Sensor with a max DPI of 35000 housed within, and you can use it wireless (with the hyperpolling dongle for 8K polling) or wired with the USB-C cable that detaches from the dongle.

Razer Viper V3 Pro: Design

The Razer Viper V3 Pro esports gaming mouse

The design of the Razer Viper V3 Pro seems pretty basic at a glance, but there are a lot of details worth noting. The most obvious is the incredibly low weight. The Viper V3 Pro weighs only 54 grams (1.9 ounces), making it one of the lightest mice we’ve ever tested and certainly the lightest wireless mouse.

The Viper V3 Pro doesn’t only have bragging rights over its record-low weight, it’s also one of the first gaming mice to offer a true wireless 8000Hz polling rate. An earlier model, the Viper 8K , offered an 8K polling rate wired, but the Viper V3 Pro ditches the cable entirely—using Razer’s hyperpolling dongle to offer wired-level performance without needing to be plugged in.

There’s a lot to love about the chassis design of the Viper V3 Pro, as well. It has a fairly basic, minimalistic look that’s great for gamers who aren’t into over-the-top, “gamerfied” RGB designs of other mice. Razer also made some adjustments to the design with input from 45 esports pros—including Zekken, who won the 2024 Valorant Champions Tour using a prototype of the Viper V3 Pro .

Razer Viper V3 Pro features increased side button spacing

One design adjustment I noticed right away was the spacing of the Viper’s side buttons. They’re more pronounced and further apart than on many other gaming mice. This reduces the likelihood of accidentally pressing the wrong side button or hitting both at once.

The chassis shape is designed mainly for fingertip and claw grip styles, but it also worked great for me as a palm-claw player. The back end of the chassis is angled in a way that supports your palm while helping to elevate your fingers for a typical claw-style grip.

Razer also flattened the sides of the mouse and increased the finger grooves on the main buttons, both of which improve comfort during long game sessions. The DPI button is located on the bottom of the mouse, ensuring you don’t accidentally press it during gameplay. The bottom of the Viper V3 Pro also has larger skates than previous models, which, combined with the ultra-low weight, makes this mouse glide effortlessly.

Razer Viper V3 Pro: Performance

The Razer Viper V3 Pro gaming mouse in action

If you’re looking for a gaming mouse that delivers pro-level performance with no compromises, look no further. Gaming with the Razer Viper V3 Pro is seamless, intuitive, and so fast it’s almost like you’re playing with mind control.

I tested the Viper V3 Pro in Fortnite and Roboquest , a fast-paced, quirky new roguelite FPS. Both games require snappy mouse movement and accurate tracking to ensure you have a consistently accurate aim. The Viper V3 Pro delivered across the board, boasting some of the most precise tracking I’ve ever experienced in a gaming mouse. It’s so light that it can also maximize the benefits of its high-performance tracking, polling rate, and DPI, especially with the help of its buttery-smooth skates.

While it might seem like a little thing, a heavy mouse with poor skates can directly impact your performance. It’s not a cheat code for going pro, but the performance was noticeable enough in my gaming sessions that it made all the difference between winning a match in Fortnite or missing a shot in Roboquest . The 8K wireless polling rate was the icing on the cake, minimizing my reaction times as much as possible.

The Razer Viper V3 Pro is perfect for claw grip styles

The layout and shape of the Viper V3 Pro also felt great in play. Side buttons are crucial for my gameplay since I like to use them for actions like dodging or sprinting. The pronounced shape of the side buttons on the Viper V3 Pro and the extra bit of spacing made me more confident every time I reached for them. It’s a minor detail, but that confidence is another factor that can make the difference between winning or losing a match in the space of a second.

The main buttons and scroll wheel all performed smoothly with no issues. The primary buttons have a soft click that’s not too loud and each requires just the right amount of force that I never found my fingers cramping up or tiring out. The scroll wheel has a nice bit of tactile feedback that I appreciated while swapping weapons in-game, as well.

Razer Viper V3 Pro: Software

The Razer Viper V3 Pro includes an exclusive Sensitivity Matcher tool

The Razer Viper V3 Pro uses Razer’s standard Synapse software, but it includes a new, exclusive feature I hope to see made available to other mice in the future. Synapse now has a “Sensitivity Matcher” tool exclusively for the Viper V3 Pro, which allows you to calibrate the mouse to match the feel and performance of other gaming mice.

For instance, my main gaming mouse used to be the Logitech G305, which I normally had set to 1600 DPI. I connected both the G305 and the Viper V3 Pro to my PC and pulled up the Sensitivity Matcher in Synapse. Calibration took less than a minute and set the DPI of my Viper V3 Pro to exactly 1413 to match the feel of the 1600 DPI I was using on the Logitech G305.

The Sensitivity Matcher tool allows you to bypass that awkward “breaking it in” phase of using a new gaming mouse where you adapt to the feel of a new sensor and weight. My reaction times and muscle memory are already dependent on the feel of a specific DPI and mouse sensor, so it was really cool to quickly set up the Viper V3 Pro to perfectly match my existing gameplay style (rather than the other way around).

In addition to the Sensitivity Matcher tool, Synapse has all the performance customization options you could want. You can customize the DPI sensitivity stages and even add additional stages beyond the default five. Synapse is also where you can set your default polling rate and a separate in-game polling rate. This helps save battery life since the 8K polling rate has a much higher power draw than slower polling rates.

There are also options for adjusting tracking sensitivity based on your mouse mat surface. You can set the timer for when your mouse goes into power-saving mode, as well.

The Razer Viper V3 Pro esports gaming mouse

The Razer Viper V3 Pro blew me away during my testing. It’s quite pricey at $159.99, but you truly get what you pay for and that’s premium pro-level performance. From its shockingly low weight to its true wireless 8K polling rate, the Viper V3 Pro is one of the top gaming mice you can buy.

Gameplay with the Viper V3 Pro is seamless, intuitive, and so fast it’s as if there’s a direct link between your brain and the game. The shape and button layout are perfect for claw grip styles and feel great during long gameplay sessions. If you’re prone to sweaty hands, you can customize your Viper with the grip tape stickers included in the box. Plus, software features like the exclusive Sensitivity Matcher tool make it easy to switch from a different mouse without throwing off your gameplay.

Overall, it’s hard to go wrong with this mouse. If you want a no-compromises pro gaming mouse, the Razer Viper V3 Pro should be top your list. In the meantime, why not check out our guide to the best gaming mice to compare it to the competition?

  • One of the lightest esports mice we've seen
  • Maximum 35,000dpi sensor resolution
  • New Synapse features add even more customization options
  • Fits perfectly in your hand
  • Tracks smoothly thanks to wide PTFE feet
  • No option to buy without HyperPolling dongle

Razer has long catered to all kinds of gamers, from the most casual to the hardest of hardcore. The latest refresh of the company's reptilian gaming peripherals has its sights squarely set on the latter category: specifically, hardcore competition play. It has been two years since we had our hands on the excellent Viper V2 Pro , and now the Razer Viper V3 Pro ($159) improves on the V2 Pro's foundation in every way. Not to be confused with the Viper V3 HyperSpeed , the V3 Pro is a wireless gaming mouse that is faster, lighter, and more responsive than its predecessor. It comes with Razer’s traditional exorbitant price, too, for its high-end gear. But if your top concern is claiming the top spot on the scoreboard of your favorite shooter, the Razer Viper V3 Pro is the mouse to beat, and it earns our Editors' Choice award for wireless esports mice.

Design: Sharper, Faster Fangs

Unlike other refreshes in Razer’s portfolio, the jump from V2 Pro to V3 Pro isn’t just internal improvements, it’s an external revamp, too. The most immediate difference is the slimmed-down bump on the mouse's backside. The V2 Pro, which was still for sale at this writing, features a slightly raised rear end that gives the mouse a cyberpunk look. (The bump is a clear differentiator between the clickers and the rest of the body.) Meanwhile, the Viper V3 Pro shaves off the shelf to create one unified mouse form, bringing it in line with the look and feel of the V3 HyperSpeed.

tour pc razer

The clean, minimalist approach is something many hardcore gamers prefer, as added frills like RGB lighting can drain the mouse’s battery and add unwanted girth and weight to the build. With just the Razer logo at one end and a battery indicator at the other, the Viper V3 Pro covers little more than the basics: two clickers, two buttons on the left flank, and a rigid scroll wheel at the center. The mouse makes use of Razer’s third-generation optical mouse switches, which the company claims will eliminate debounce delay and potential double-clicking issues across their 90-million-click lifespan.

At just 1.9 ounces, the Viper V3 Pro is one of the lightest mice we’ve ever held. It's lighter than the V2 Pro (2.04 ounces), the V3 HyperSpeed (2.8 ounces) and the Logitech G Pro X Superlight 2 (2.1 ounces). It sits at 1.5 by 2.5 by 5 inches (HWD), imperceptibly bigger than the V2 Pro. The mouse fits comfortably in the your hand, and complements both claw and fingertip grips nicely, though palm-grip players will probably not find any issue with it, either.

tour pc razer

Flipping the mouse over, we see that the minimalist design sensibilities extend to the mouse's underside. You'll find the sensor, a Power/DPI switch, and large 100% PTFE feet that cover both ends of the mouse. The large mouse feet, bigger than the V2 Pro's, give the peripheral a satisfyingly smooth glide against various surfaces, including glass and wood. At the tip of the mouse, you’ll find the USB-C port.

But while the exterior impresses, we both know, dear reader who seeks esports greatness, that it’s what's on the inside that counts the most. Here, the Viper V3 Pro implements a new Razer Focus Pro 35k optical sensor, which cranks the dots per inch (dpi) up to a whopping 35,000dpi. This number is a measure of how sensitive a mouse is, higher indicating greater sensitivity. The mouse also features a maximum tracking speed of 750 inches per second (ips) and max acceleration of 70G.

tour pc razer

The sensor also includes two new features that are exclusive to the Viper V3 Pro. The first is a DPI Sensitivity Matcher, which helps new owners match the sensitivity of their old mouse, eliminating DPI deviation concerns and making the transition to the Viper V3 Pro that much smoother. You can also adjust DPI in one-step increments, which gives gamers more freedom to find those sweet spots. Both of these new features can be accessed in the Razer Synapse software.

New Features, Thanks to a New Sensor

Those who have used any Razer product over the past few years should be familiar with Razer's Synapse software, which pairs with basically every Razer product. If you haven't, don't worry—the new mouse prompts you to install Synapse automatically when you plug it in or connect it. Meanwhile, if you're a current user, you'll find all of the familiar features: button function assignment, DPI adjustment, and other calibrations that can be tweaked to your pleasure.

tour pc razer

Among the additional options is the aforementioned DPI Sensitivity Matcher, which is easy enough to set up, even if the process is slightly clunky. The idea is to place your old mouse and your new mouse side by side and glide them across your table as one unit. Once you've passed the allotted minimum distance, the Razer sensor sets itself to an approximation of your old mouse’s DPI, saving you the trouble of pulling up the mouse’s software and grabbing the number yourself.

It’s a time-saving feature that may seem superfluous at first, but I was surprised to find that it actually works pretty well. Setting the V3 Pro side by side with the Corsair Darkstar I use on my gaming PC, the Synapse software determined that my existing mouse’s DPI was around 1,277dpi. Sure enough, I confirmed that my Darkstar’s DPI was set at 1,200dpi. It's not exact, but far closer than I would’ve expected it to get.

Razer also includes its HyperPolling wireless dongle with the V3 Pro. This high-speed USB microcontroller allows for 2.4GHz wireless connection with an extraordinarily high wireless polling rate—the frequency at which data from the mouse is sent to the device it's connected to, or how often the mouse reports its position to the computer. Connected via USB-C cable, the Viper V3 Pro is capable of a maximum polling rate of 1,000Hz, but connected via the HyperPolling dongle, it can reach a polling rate of 8,000Hz—a feat that few mice can accomplish, and fewer can wirelessly. The Alienware Pro Wireless Gaming Mouse , for instance, tops out at 4,000Hz over a wireless connection; it can hit 8,000Hz only when connected via USB cable.

tour pc razer

With a polling rate of 8,000Hz, your device sends up to eight times more data in a second, reducing delay from 1 millisecond at 1,000Hz to 1/8th of a millisecond. You could argue this is unnecessary for most gamers, but in competitive play, a fraction of a second can be the difference between life and death.

Interestingly, you cannot reach 8,000Hz through a wired connection with the V3 Pro, something that is possible using the Alienware Pro Wireless Gaming Mouse. Maxing out the polling rate does have a significant impact on battery life, too. At 1,000Hz, you can expect a battery life of about 95 hours, while cranking the polling rate to 8,000Hz will cap you at 17 hours, according to Razer.

tour pc razer

I’m no pro gamer, by any stretch of the imagination, but it doesn’t take a professional to see the benefits of a lightweight mouse paired with a sensitive microcontroller. Taking it out for a spin in Counter-Strike 2 was a fun experiment, and I have to admit that the higher sensitivities do give a noob a fighting chance. The included grip tape also helped me maintain my grip when flailing about, and should help support gamers when they're gaming at their sweatiest.

Verdict: The Viper Claims Its Prey

Now, Razer's HyperPolling technology is not new, nor are most of the additions found on the Viper V3 Pro. This begs the question, is it worth the $159 asking price? In short, we think it makes the case for the esports elite, because it marks a significant improvement over the Viper V2 Pro. When compared with the V3 HyperSpeed, the differences are slimmer, but the optical mouse switches, improved sensor, and much lighter body do give the Viper V3 Pro an edge. We only wish that Razer sold a version without the dongle to cut the cost down so that returning users looking to upgrade wouldn’t have to pay a premium for another HyperPolling dongle.

If HyperPolling highs and eye-popping DPI numbers don’t mean a thing to you, you can find plenty of other quality gaming mice at lower prices, like the HyperX Pulsefire Haste 2 . And those who don’t mind a wired connection to reach maximum polling rates should be satisfied with the Alienware Pro Wireless Gaming Mouse.

The fact remains that Razer’s latest just happens to be one of its greatest, as the Viper V3 Pro really does impress. Faster, sleeker, and slimmer than its predecessor, it outmaneuvers the competition in a meaningful way. If you want the freedom to dominate opponents without the concern of a cord, the Viper V3 Pro is sure to strike when you need it most, and for that it earns an Editors' Choice award.

Akuma rages into Street Fighter 6 on May 22

Akuma rages into Street Fighter 6 on May 22

Akuma will challenge foes worthy enough to face him in Fighting Ground, World Tour, and the Battle Hub.

tour pc razer

Legend tells of a man so consumed by his pursuit of strength that his soul and body have now faded into nothingness. Though many wish he were a mere legend, Akuma will rise again in Street Fighter 6 , to challenge foes worthy enough to face him on May 22. Will you harness the power of the Satsui no Hado or succumb to it?

Akuma made his debut in Super Street Fighter II Turbo as a hidden boss and playable character. In Street Fighter 6, Akuma’s thirst for strength has taken a maddening toll. He carves figures of the hundreds of opponents he has felled and places them in the cave he resides, their silence beckoning him to fall deeper into his path of inner strife.

tour pc razer

Nakayama-san’s comments on his design: Akuma now has a more striking presence complete with gray hair. We also used Buddha statues and animals as references for his musculature in an attempt to give the character a more memorable aesthetic.

tour pc razer

Like the rest of the Year 1 characters, Akuma can become your Master in World Tour. Find him in a new area, Enma’s Hollow, located on the island of Gokuento, but beware the effects of the Satsui no Hado lest you become tormented by its hunger. After increasing your bond with Akuma, he’ll teach you his demonic moves, which you can then assign to your avatar to be used in your World Tour travels or in Avatar Battles in the Battle Hub.

As a man who has spent his life honing his skills, Akuma’s move set will be familiar to long-time fans, but the Satsui no Hado has unlocked new abilities. His fast walk speed and long-reaching normals allow him to control space and the flow of the fight.

tour pc razer

Let’s start with Akuma’s iconic moves that make him a well-rounded pursuer. His infamous fireball, Gou Hadoken is back, and can be charged up so that a “red fireball” is released instead, giving Akuma more options upon hit or block. Everyone’s favorite air fireball, Zanku Hadoken, can cover Akuma’s aggressive approach. His dragon punch, Gou Shoryuken, works as an anti-air or as a combo ender. Finally, Tatsumaki Zanku-Kyaku sees Akuma spinning forward in a series of kicks that change properties based on which kick button is pressed.

tour pc razer

Like his previous iterations, Akuma uses Ashura Senku to glide on the battlefield cloaked in shadows. Be wary of using this ability since it can be stopped mid-way by an opponent’s attacks. However, Akuma has honed this move’s vulnerabilities and can now use Oboro Throw during the approach to surprise opponents.

tour pc razer

Adamant Flame is one of Akuma’s new moves, where he performs a forward thrust engulfed in flames. This move is useful in combos and for exploiting vulnerable opponents due to its long reach. The OD version will wall splat opponents, opening up more opportunities in the corner.

Demon Raid is the Street Fighter 6 version of Hyakkishu. As Akuma leaps into the air with this move, choose to follow up with a low kick, overhead attack, dive kick, or to end the leap early. The OD version of Demon Raid unlocks two more follow-ups: an air fireball and an air tatsu.

tour pc razer

Akuma’s Level 1 Super Art is Messatsu Gohado, where he fires a highly concentrated ball of Satsui no Hado. Like most Level 1s, this move is invulnerable on start-up. Akuma has a second Level 1 called Tenma Gozanku where he unleashes the fireball from the air.

tour pc razer

Empyrean’s End is Akuma’s Level 2 Super Art where he turns the Satsui no Hado into a powerful flame and ignites it within the opponent. Using this move close to the corner will result in a wall splat where Akuma can continue his pressure or damage. Empyrean’s End is also invulnerable on start-up.

tour pc razer

Akuma’s first Level 3 Super Art is Sip of Calamity, another move that is invulnerable on start-up! He throws opponents on the ground with their face and follows up with a single devastating blow.

tour pc razer

Finally, the move you’ve all been waiting for: Shun Goku Satsu or the “Raging Demon.” This second Level 3 Super Art can only be performed when his Vitality is low enough for a Critical Art and can be used to end combos. This time, he allows you to see what happens during the one-second worth of nightmares.

Coming with this update is a new stage, Enma’s Hollow, where Akuma resides to continue his hellbent training. Year 1 Ultimate Pass owners will receive this stage on May 22.

tour pc razer

Akuma’s Outfit 2 is inspired by his debut look in Super Street Fighter II Turbo. Speaking of outfits, Rashid, A.K.I., Ed, and Akuma will have their Outfit 3s also available for purchase when Akuma releases, and will automatically be distributed to all Year 1 Ultimate Pass owners.

One last thing before we sign off. With the Akuma update comes the major balance patch we mentioned in the past where all characters will receive changes. We’ll have more to share about this in the future as we approach May 22.

Get ready to unleash your inner demon when Akuma rages in!
