Expert Picks: Yonex Strings
Our playtesters choose the best Yonex strings for comfort/power, control, spin and all-around value.
Strings are crucial to the performance of your racket. In addition to regulating the amount of shock that reaches your arm, your string choice gives you the ability to fine-tune your racket's power, control and spin to complement your unique playing style. With so many strings on the market, it can be challenging to find the perfect string. With that in mind, we’ve selected our favorite Yonex strings from the most important performance categories.
Multifilament string: comfort & power
Given the amount of shock that gets transferred to your arm during repeated ball impact, the need for extra comfort is crucial to a great many players, especially those with lighter and stiffer rackets. Comfort strings get their arm-friendly feel from a flexible construction that helps absorb impact shock while also converting more of your stroke’s energy into outgoing ball speed (aka power). The top comfort and power strings come from the natural gut and multifilament community, both of which do a superior job protecting your arm and loading the ball with power.
Our pick for best multifilament: Super Tour 850
“Yonex Tour Super 850 has long been among my favourite comfort strings. As a multifilament, it has a soft feel that's easy on the arm. I like that it retains its playability throughout its life and that I can take up tensions around 27 kg without losing that signature comfort. ” - Tiffani, TW playtester
Polyester string: control
Control strings are typically firm, low powered and durable. The best control strings come from the polyester category. Although too stiff and underpowered for beginners, polyester strings helped revolutionize tennis by giving advanced players the needed control to swing bigger and load the ball with unprecedented levels of pace and spin.
Our pick for best control string: Poly Tour Strike
“I love the crisp response of Poly Tour Strike and find it a very direct and precise feeling string. I have that connected sense with my shots and can judge both the depth and direction of the ball as it exits my racket. I also get enough spin to take aggressive cuts at the ball and be confident I will keep it inside the lines.” - Chris, TW playtester

Polyester string: spin
The best spin strings come from the polyester community, and they tend to have shaped or textured surfaces for gripping the ball. They also typically have low-friction surfaces that enable them to slide and snap back powerfully during impact. Finally, their low power levels make it easier for the player to achieve the vicious stroke speeds required for heavy spin.
Our pick for best spin string: Poly Tour Spin
“Poly Tour Spin gives me everything I want from a co-poly: tons of control and predictability along with the needed bite for topspin shots. Now, don't get me wrong, there are a plethora of co-polys on the market nowadays, all designed to maximize control and spin. What sets Poly Tour Spin apart is that it holds tension better than most other co-polys and maintains playability well over time. I like firmer, crisper feeling co-polys, so this one is right up my alley, but if you are a fan of softer co-polys, you might look to Yonex's Poly Tour Air or Poly Tour Pro.” - Troy, TW playtester
Yonex Poly Tour Spin 1.25/16L String Blue
Value strings
Whether you are a big hitter on a budget or a comfort seeker who doesn't want to break the bank, the Yonex string line-up has great options. Here is our favourite value string.
Our pick for best value polyester: Poly Tour Tough
“With its low-powered construction and predictable response on full swings, Yonex Poly Tour Tough enables big hitters to attack the ball without fear of overhitting. The upshot is more confidence on full swings, making it easier to load the ball with pace and spin. The high durability and great price make this one hard to resist." - Jonathan, TW string guru

Yonex Super 850 Tour vs Rexis
- Thread starter Steve Huff
- Start date Jul 22, 2020
- Jul 22, 2020
Has anyone tried these 2 strings? What's the difference? The Rexis appears to not have any wraps, so I worry about its durability. How does it hold up compared to the 850 Tour. Also, is it as soft? Any other differences you can specify will be greatly appreciated.
1HBHfanatic
@Steve Huff -only discussing playability here, not price!! -i am using y.T850 on some of my sticks, free packs!! -i have yet to try the rexis -i was happily impressed with the T850 -it has a slick outer coating, very similar to head.velocity -i think IMO rexis would be like head.reflex -if you wanna go with wilson comparison, w.nxt=y.t.850; w.sensation=y.rexis -the outer slippery coating on T850 allows it to recover/snapback ,(like a good multi should!!),,, buttttt only for a bit, then they suffer the same fate as all the others -IME/IMO, HEAD is doing a better job at this in both reflex and velocity, but thats also why they provably feel a tad bit firmer than wilson and yonex multis as far as the ones i have tried
@Steve Huff The T850 1.32mm is much more durable than the 1.30mm Rexis and both are very nice to string and play. However, Rexis is shorter lived and a bit more powerful than the T850. I rate them as a much better overall alternative to Tecnifibre X One Biphase (which I liked in my personal playtests) OR any version of Wilson NXT (I didn't like).
Thanks--Does Rexis have a durability issue, or does it last as long as most multis could be expected to last?
Put another way, if you could get them for the same price, which would you get?

COMMENTS
It has excellent potential for power (depending on tension) and is also able to generate considerable spin for a multi. If you had selected Yonex Tour Super 850 rather than Tour Super 850 Pro it would have likely come closer to your expectations of what a multi feels like in general. Just dragging this post back up.
Aug 2, 2010. #11. I would say they compare well with NXT and NRG2 -- perhaps a tiny bit less crisp in their feel and less lively in their response, but the difference is small. Tension hold for both is better than NXT and NRG2. 850 Pro has a little texture to it; 850 is quite smooth.
Nov 1, 2022. #3. Trip said: It would appear as though Tour Super is being phased out in favor of the Rexis series. It's a good string, though, so if you do like it, I'd load up on it in bulk from all the clearances you can find. Thanks. I grabbed a couple of sets for under $10 each from another retailer in the *******.
Our pick for best multifilament: Super Tour 850. "Yonex Tour Super 850 has long been among my favourite comfort strings. As a multifilament, it has a soft feel that's easy on the arm. I like that it retains its playability throughout its life and that I can take up tensions around 27 kg without losing that signature comfort.

Comment: "The YONEX TOUR SUPER 850 PRO is recommended for people just starting out. It has great power and great feel, especially for ladies and kids.". Stringer: Nakamura Shinji. Recommended String: POLYTOUR SPIN. Comment: "The POLYTOUR SPIN has a distinctive pentagonal shape which allows players to easily put spin on the ball.
Yep. I slapped on Yonex Tour Super 850 Pro recently and I'm finding that it is a nice string indeed. I'm not like totally "WOW"ed with it but I'm finding that I do like my multi's a little firmer (than the soft NXTs, X-One's and Excel's) and was surprised at how stiff/"crunchie" feeling this string was even at 53 pounds on a PS90.

Feb 16, 2006. #4. I've tried 3 string jobs with the Tour Super 850 16L. In comparison with Wilson Sensation that I've now settle with, the Tour Super 850 16L has a more crispy feel. It maintains tension better with lesser string movement. The downside is that I can only get 6 hours from the Yonex while I can get about 10 hours from Sensation.
Yonex Tour Super 850 Pro 16g Tennis String (Set) (Model #TS850P16) Same great comfort and forgiveness as the super popular 850 with a twist literally. A 'Power-Spin Coating' added to the outside wrap of the string adds a big boost of ball feel along with spin ability. Great option for the player looking for that added control and feel.
Jerry is right, I'm currently using Yonex string. I like both the 850 Tour Super and the 850 Tour Super Spin. I string at 62lbs and have not had any problems - in fact it feels great. Out of the two, I have a slight preference for the Spin as it has a crisper feel. The Tour Super reminds me of LaserFibre SuperNatural Phenom XRC, but I've had ...
