Stena Line Travel Group acquires Voigt Travel

Swedish travel company, Stena Line Travel Group AB, has today announced that they have acquired Voigt Travel Holding, the leading winter holiday specialist for the Nordic region.

Company news

The deal brings Voigt Travel, the well-known Dutch travel brand, as well as sister companies Scandinavian Wintersports, and Ruka Safaris, into the Stena Line Travel Group alongside the successful Dutch travel company Buro Scanbrit, which has been a part of the Swedish company since 1986.  All companies will continue to under their own brand names, while jointly forming the market leader in the Netherlands for Nordic holidays, serving 50,000 travellers each year and with a turnover of over €50M per annum.

Stena Line Travel Group AB is one of the largest leisure travel groups in Northern Europe; with 700,000 travellers per year.  The company will gain significant operational benefits from working with Voigt Travel,   a market leader for Nordic travel from the Netherlands, that has made this deal attractive to both companies.

The acquisition of Voigt Travel Holding represents a logical step towards strengthening the travel offerings of both companies in the Dutch market.  Voigt Travel, and Scandinavian Wintersports, are a perfect fit for the Swedish firm’s brands, which includes leading Dutch travel firm Buro Scanbrit, a specialist in car holidays to Great Britain, Ireland and the Nordic region.  With this deal, the newly formed Group is a clear market leader in leisure holidays to the Nordic region and Iceland from the Netherlands.

As a destination the Nordic countries have shown strong growth over the last decade, which Stena Line Travel Group expects to continue.  Travellers say they are attracted to the safe, calm and environmentally friendly nature of Nordic countries, as well as fantastic wildlife. This deal now gives Stena Line Travel Group a strong platform for further growth in this vibrant travel market.

Jari Virtanen, Managing Director of Stena Line Travel Group, explains the rationale behind the deal:

“Through this deal Stena Line Travel Group will vastly increase its position in the Dutch travel market and further broaden its offer of Nordic holiday products to Dutch consumers.  We are determined to be the first choice for Dutch tourists to the Nordics, Iceland or Great Britain. The collective knowledge and skills among all our employees when it comes to North European holidays is unprecedented.  We are thrilled to have taken this next step in creating a European Travel Group truly specialised in North European destinations.  We look forward to working with Voigt Travel and its sister companies.”

Cees van den Bosch, Managing Partner of Voigt Travel Holding,  is looking forward to the new cooperation:

“This is a great development for Voigt Travel and its employees who, in recent decades, has pioneered tourist travel to several Nordic destinations and made them accessible with charter flights from the Netherlands and Belgium.  With this deal we have now found a new owner for Voigt Travel who has the strength and resources to help us to continue our expansion.  As part of Stena Line Travel Group, we can further strengthen our position, together with Buro Scanbrit and Scandinavian Wintersports, the Finnish company Ruka Safaris, and realise our ambitions for further growth.  I am excited for what the future holds!”

Voigt Travel, Scandinavian Wintersports and Ruka Safaris will continue to exist and operate under the stewardship of Stena Line Travel Group.  Voigt Travel’s Cees van den Bosch and Managing Director, Marloes Meijer, will remain with Voigt Travel.   Van den Bosch has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the Dutch and Finnish entities and will also now become the Country Manager for Stena Line Travel Group Netherlands.

The value of the deal has not been disclosed.

Average accomodation

We made a 2 weeks round trip in Norway with our car. Norway is beautiful and we enjoyed the nature. Booking a trip through Voigt is expensive, we paid over 5000 euro for 2 weeks for 2 adults and 2 young adults for the ferry from Denmark and a mix of berg cabin and hotel rooms, without meals, fuel so the total expenses where a lot higher. Voigt creates the image that their accommodations are all handpicked, unfortunate this is not our experience, 1 accommodation was a new development, we where on a building site instead of in beautiful nature, another was not the same as in our travel itinerary, the local booking agency found us another place. quite far away. Basically they are selling apartments, cabins, hotels in wintersport resorts that are not busy in the summer season. My experience was that with a little time I could have put together a better itinerary and found better accommodation through a booking site, we where in high season, but there is plenty available.

Before the trip I had extensive contact with your husband regarding the accommodations, it is therefore regrettable to hear that these have not been entirely satisfactory. I have tried to reach you by telephone and have also contacted you by email. Here I have shown that if you want to share your further feedback, I would like to hear from you. Voigt Travel offers 10 departures to northern Iceland this winter

voigt travel canada

The first international flight of the winter landed at Akureyri Airport today. The tours are sold by Voigt Travel in the Netherlands, but the airline Transavia handles the flight.

Flights from Amsterdam will be on Fridays and Mondays for the next 5 weeks, a total of 10 flights in total.

Voigt Travel started charter flights to Akureyri in the summer of 2019 and also had flights in February and March 2020. Immediately after that flight, the pandemic struck and flights operated by the travel agency have been suspended ever since. Now, however, Voigt Travel is picking up the thread and will offer flights twice a week this winter, as well as weekly flights next summer. This is in accordance with the travel agency’s plans to increase the number of passengers on their routes on direct flights to the North.

Hjalti Páll Þórarinsson, project manager of Flugklasan Air 66N, says this is a great day of joy: “We are very pleased that Voigt Travel is once again able to offer charter flights directly to the North. The pandemic temporarily halted operations, but now the conditions for travel are back. The collaboration with Voigt Travel has been very good from the beginning and it’s great to see the charter flight resume. Voigt Travel has great faith in the North as a destination and wants to continue to increase the number of visitors here on their behalf. ”

Arnheiður Jóhannsdóttir, managing director of the Nordic Marketing Agency, agrees: “It is extremely important for tourism in the North that these flights are back on track. Both for the companies that directly benefit from the arrival of these tourists, but also for the tourism industry as a whole. After the long-term negative effects of the pandemic, this is positive news that tourism companies need. This encourages all of us who work in the industry to look to the future with bright eyes. ”

Voigt Travel’s charter flights also give travel-thirsty Nordics the opportunity to shrink beyond the shores. It is still possible to secure a ticket to Amsterdam, but the Akureyri Travel Agency handles the sale of trips abroad.

3 attractions in Ontario ranked among most breathtaking landmarks in Canada

Latest Videos

Three attractions in Ontario have been ranked among the top 10 most breathtaking in all of Canada, according to a recent report.

There's no arguing that the True North is home to some seriously awe-inspiring sights and experiences, but, when stacked against each other, which of Canada's landmarks really takes the cake?

According to a new analysis by Ontario Casinos , three attractions in Ontario — including one in Toronto — have landed within the list of the top ten most breathtaking Canadian landmarks.

The study looked at Google reviews from the country's most popular landmarks and calculated the percentage of reviews that included terms like 'breathtaking,' and 'wow,' ranking them by percentage.

Coming in at fourth place, Ottawa's Rideau Canal is a no-brainer. Home to the largest naturally-frozen skating rink each winter (well, most winters ,) and peaceful boat tours in the summer, the manmade water way is certainly a crowning jewel of the province.

Another gem from the nation's capital, Ottawa's National Gallery of Canada is caught in a three-way tie with New Brunswick's Reversing Falls and PEI's Green Gables.

Rounding out the list, Toronto's own ( recently re-opened ) Art Gallery of Ontario came in at tenth place.

The complete list of Canada's most breathtaking attractions. By Ontario Casinos.

Which of the country's landmarks managed to come in first place, you ask? None other than Alberta's Lake Louise, which has also been ranked the fourth most scenic lake in the world.

While the news of Lake Louise taking the cake comes as no surprise, I'm still shocked that a few of the country's greatest hits, like Niagara Falls or the McDonalds at Queen and Spadina didn't make it.

To each their own, I guess.

Travel insurance for Canada isn’t compulsory, but it’s highly recommended to cover for any lost or stolen baggage, the possibility of your trip getting cancelled due to an emergency, illness such as Covid-19 or bereavement, and to cover medical expenses.

The Australian Government’s Smartraveller website recommends that travellers purchase travel insurance before any overseas trip.

As in any foreign country, medical care in Canada can be expensive for visitors, with a visit to a doctor potentially setting you back by hundreds of dollars.

The Australian government won’t cover these costs, and there is no reciprocal healthcare agreement between Australia and Canada, so you aren’t covered by Australian Medicare either.

In addition, given the large geography of the country covering a variety of destinations from beaches to mountains to national parks, it is wise to hold insurance cover for a multitude of events and a variety of potential risks including natural disasters, crime or other types of emergencies.

International travel cover for Canada is generally available in the following ways:

Basic travel insurance

This type of policy is broadly focused on cover for unlimited overseas emergency medical expenses, but also includes insurance for luggage, personal liability and other essential benefits. It is usually the cheapest option available and is suitable for those traveling on a budget or for single trips.

Comprehensive travel insurance

This type of insurance typically includes higher amounts of cover for the essentials benefits such as medical expenses, luggage, personal liability, and so on. In addition, it includes cover for travel delays, rental vehicle excess, loss of passports and credit cards, hijacking, disability, accidental death, and more, depending on your policy.

Some insurers offer variations of the comprehensive policy that are suitable for multiple trips within a 12-month period.

Optional add-on policies

Given the growing number of Australians heading to Canada for cruises, road trips or to the ski slopes, some insurers have come up with add-on policies specifically tailored for a variety of adventure sports and transport options available. These include cruise packs, winter sports packs and even higher cover for rental vehicles.

Related: How Much Does Travel Insurance Cost?

Most international travel insurance policies will cover medical and hospital expenses, ambulance transportation, repatriation flights, as well as personal liability if you injure someone, or damage property while you’re in the country.

Policies will also cover, within limits, lost or delayed luggage and possessions, the costs of trip delays, interruptions or cancellations, and lost or stolen travel documents.

Comprehensive policies usually offer a broader cover to include personal accident cover in case of an injury during your trip that leads to permanent disability or death, and insurance excess payment if your rental car meets with an accident.

If you are planning to take advantage of Canada’s vast offering of adventure sports and activities, make sure these are covered by your policy—or that there is an option to add it on.

Most comprehensive policies will include popular sporting and leisure activities such as hiking, surfing, kayaking, and so on. However, more extreme activities such as skydiving, scuba diving, snow skiing or snowboarding will generally require an additional adventure sports cover at extra cost.

Most travel insurance policies to Canada will not provide cover in the following cases:

  • Illegal activities: Insurers will reject any claims arising if you knowingly act illegally or dangerously.
  • If you are under the influence: Insurance cover is specifically void if you cause a disturbance through drunken behaviour or under the influence of drugs.
  • Unattended luggage: Insurers will ignore any claim for loss if your luggage is stolen while it was left unattended in public.
  • Pre-existing medical conditions: Insurers can avoid claims for any major medical conditions, if they have not been made aware of these before taking out a policy.
  • Extreme sports: International travel insurance policies generally don’t provide automatic coverage for things like extreme sports, snowboarding or surfing. An optional add-on cover is required for these activities.

Most travel insurers in Australia offer insurance policies for travel to Canada. What policy suits you best will depend on your requirements including duration, age, and the type of cover.

It will also be determined by your specific needs, such as whether you are taking part in snow sports or other adventure activities.

An easy way to compare travel insurance policies is to use an online comparison tool, or read through our leading picks of travel insurance policies for Australians . However, always consider whether or not they include the extras you will require for your trip, and any pre-existing medical conditions you would require cover for.

Do I need travel insurance to travel to Canada?

Travel insurance for Canada isn’t mandatory, but is highly recommended.

The Australian Government urges travellers to purchase travel insurance before any overseas trip, especially for medical cover.

Medical costs can be extremely expensive in a foreign country, especially if you have to visit a doctor, dentist or hospital in an emergency, so travel insurance is very handy.

Does my visa card have travel insurance?

Not every credit card comes with travel insurance. Complimentary travel insurance is typically offered on premium credit or rewards cards that have higher annual fees. In addition, this may not cover all circumstances or emergencies. By comparison, a travel insurance policy will offer more comprehensive coverage that includes emergency medical expenses.

Faster visitor visa processing for spousal applicants

If you’re being sponsored for permanent residence (PR) by your spouse or partner, you could benefit from faster processing for a visitor visa.

You may be eligible if you

  • submitted an application to be sponsored for permanent residence
  • received an acknowledgement of receipt (AOR) that confirms the application is in progress

Applications that need more information, for example custody documents for a child, will take longer to process.

When your sponsor receives the AOR for your permanent residence application, you can apply for a visitor visa. If you’re eligible, your visitor visa application will automatically receive faster processing. You don’t need to request it.

You must still meet all of the requirements to be eligible for a visitor visa .

Reply from Voigt Travel

Dear Mrs. van den Enden, Sorry to hear that your trip did not meet your expectations. Hopefully you are looking back on a wonderful journey through the beautiful norway!

I am an American citizen. What do I need to enter Canada?

Help Centre what do you need help with?

American citizens, including American-Canadian citizens, must carry proper identification and meet the basic requirements to enter Canada . You do not need a Canadian passport, a Canadian visa or an eTA to enter Canada if you are travelling with a valid U.S. passport.

New entry requirement now in effect

Visa-exempt foreign nationals need an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) to fly to or transit through Canada by air. Exceptions include U.S. citizens and travellers with a valid Canadian visa. Canadian citizens, including dual citizens , and Canadian permanent residents cannot apply for an eTA.
