Paris&London, Mother&Son and a Trip Never Forgotten

Many 5-star reviews over promise and under-deliver. Mine, hopefully will not. From end-to-end our entire experience was positive. Our planner, Lily, was knowledgeable, understanding and creative. She tailored this trip to meet the needs of my mother with walking/stair climbing limitations. This was a life-long dream for my Mom to step foot on the European continent and visit Paris/London. We were worried she would not be able to due to her heart/health issues. However with proper planning, preparation and budgeting for taxis, Uber's and Audley's private drivers the trip was a resounding success. The hotel accommodations met and exceeded expectations, the tour guides were phenomenal (and future pen-pals), and the time saved dealing with 30+ reservations, itineraries, etc. was worth the money spent on our program; remember you're paying for peace of mind and that is what Audley delivered. So, take a chance. Save up the money and plan that dream vacation, photos and souvenirs cannot replace the memories we created in this trip. You never know how much time you have to take a vacation like this, and while pricey, the value will return back to you and then some. It already has for me. Well Done!

The planning for our trip was flawless

The planning for our trip was flawless. Drivers were always on time and uniformly helpful. Hotels were unique--not the usual chains--always lovely and well located. Guides were beyond amazing--knowledgable about history, architecture and art as well as warm and engaging. I can't say enough about Audley's travel services. This was our 6th trip with them and we are already planning another.

Laura Coughlin at Audley Travel is…

Laura Coughlin at Audley Travel is absolutely the best! If you have a desire to go to South Africa to visit Cape Town, go on Safari or visit Victoria Falls in Zambia she is the expert. To no surprise, every i was dotted and every t crossed. The transfer drivers always arrived on time whether at the airports or from lodge to lodge. Friendly and knowledgeable about the different townships or villages we drove through. They were great. The binder Audley provided us had every detail organized by date & time which released any stress we might have had, Can’t even begin to tell you what a fantastic trip my wife & I had with select hotels, suggested excursions and the like all by Laura. Audley Great in Exotic Locations

We just got back from a trip to India and Bhutan. This is our 2nd trip with Audley and we would definitely use them again. They have excellent partners (both Audley and local partners) and we felt well taken care of. The trip was well organized and Jason did a great job in keeping us in the loop. My only feedback would be it would be great to see a more itemized bill - you just get one lump sum. But in locations that are difficult or out of the ordinary (like Bhutan) I would definitely go with Audley.

Barcelona - Spring 2024

We had a fantastic family vacation in Barcelona thanks to the attention and care we received from Eric Carnes. Eric was genuinely interested in our family dynamic and was able to assist us with creating unique opportunities for our time together while experiencing Barcelona. We asked for many unique amenities from customized architectural tours to securing sporting event tickets. He was even able to accommodate our big ask of being in the middle of city in a multi-bedroom apartment with all of the perks of staying in a high end hotel. Egypt: A Very Well Managed Trip

We have just returned from an eleven day trip to Egypt covering Lower and Upper Egypt including Abu Simbel and a five day Nile cruise. I had requested my country specialist for a couple of hotels we wanted to stay in, the Mena House in Cairo and the Old Cataract in Aswan. Excellent rooms were arranged in both these hotels as well as the Cecil in Alexandria (suggested by our country specialist), which turned out to be delightfully atmospheric. The Sonesta cruise ship was superb both in service, accommodation and food and lived up to its billing. The tour leader who was assigned to us was the very best and took care of all the admin throughout our stay. He was with us in Cairo and Alexandria and was always available on WhatsApp when we were up country. All the little details I had requested, like restaurant bookings for my wife’s birthday, were taken care of. In addition the local representatives arranged for all on the spot restaurant bookings and transfers. The Guides and the transportation throughout were of a very high order and little touches like the VIP service through immigration on arrival at Cairo were very thoughtful. We had planned this trip for the year before but had to defer it by a year at the last moment due to a medical emergency. Our Country Specialist arranged for the whole trip to be pushed a year ahead at no extra cost. This was out third trip with Audley and all have turned out to excellent. A special thanks to Jason, our Country Specialist, who was a fount of knowledge on Egypt, gave excellent advice telling us both what and what not to do and accommodating all of our special requests.

It was great experience.

This was our first experience using a travel agent to plan a trip for us. It was a trip of a lifetime, and we are ready to do more. We went from Perth, Australia on the Indian Pacific Railway to Adelaide. From there we drove the Great Ocean Road through Port Campbell and down to Melbourne. We then flew to Sydney before returning home. Our highlights were Rottness Island, Winery Tour, Kangaroo Island, Grampians National Park, Pinnacle, Mackenzie Falls, Boroka Lookout, Phillip Island Wildlife Expedition (including the Penguin Parade), Lanes and Arcades Tour in Melbourne, and Sydney Harbour Long Lunch Cruise. Anthony was thorough in talking with us about what kinds of excursions and tours we were interested in doing on this trip. He was there to assist us before, during and after this trip.

Jason Toms put together a trip of a lifetime…

Jason Toms put together a wonderful trip for my husband and I. Everything went perfectly. Everyday was a highlight. If I could pick one it would be the houseboat in Alleppey. It was a fabulous experience and the food was superb. Overall, there was a nice assortment of different types of accommodations. Our drivers Nagandra and Unni were just wonderful. Once in a lifetime trip to Iceland

Audley travel organized a wonderful trip for my family of 7 to Iceland. We had fantastic, knowledgeable guides to help us get the most out of our experiences in this gorgeous country. We were basically taken care of every step of the way from arriving at the airport to being driven back. Our agent, Julia Mole was responsive to our requests and constructed the perfect trip for us. We really did have a once in a lifetime trip to Iceland including Northern Lights, Ice Cave, Lava tube, Highlands SuperJeep tour, black beaches, geysers, geothermic pools, many beautiful waterfalls, finding the elusive Arctic Fox ,and even seeing an erupting volcano (that we were able to get pictures of on our way back to the airport). We had a very happy group of travelers.

A dream trip

We have just returned from a phenomenal trip to southern Spain and Morocco , which we planned as a special adventure with our 13 year old grandson. Fantastic trip

My wife and I just returned from a fantastic trip to Agra and Rajasthan. Our trip creator, Jason Toms, put together an itinerary nicely balanced between urban and rural experiences. The rural sites allowed us to interact with locals in non commercial settings that weren’t possible in the urban settings. Throughout the process of creating the trip, taking it and upon our return, Jason listened, was very attentive and supportive, and was easily reachable. We can’t thank him enough for our very special trip. This was our second positive experience with an Audley planned trip. The local support and guides helped make the trip a pleasant experience. Our Japan trip was to be a trip of a lifetime

Our Japan trip was to be a trip of a lifetime. Once we paid our full trip cost we heard nothing though Asha From Audley said we would talk more about details of trip three weeks out. Three weeks came and we get an email Asha had a wedding to go to and then she will be in Korea. Long story short run from this agency. Asha built us an itinerary for a 30 year old we are in our late 60’s and 80’s. It’s sad when a trip of a lifetime is ruined by greed!

Veronica at Audley created a seamless…

Veronica at Audley created a seamless and fascinating experience in Cambodia and Vietnam. The highlight was the interaction with local guides - not just their knowledge but their life stories, their personal warmth and concern. I want to particularly cite Nara in Siem Reap and Hau David in Hoi An. Nara cared for us as would have for his parents. Hau found services and restaurant tables we never could have found for ourselves. Each was always available and always a pleasure to be with. Like Veronica herself.

We were quoted an extortionate price…

We were quoted an extortionate price for a holiday to Ecuador and the Galapagos, which we ended up booking ourselves like for like (if not for better rooms etc.) spending about £10k less than quoted by Audley. When challenged about the initial quote, the agent came up with all the “added value” they claimed to provide, when it had come across clearly to us that the agent knew less about the country than us after having read the Lonely Planet the week end before. In fact it felt like we were giving the agent information about the country/ option rather than the agent advising us. i.e. we were shown a cruise advertised as being suitable for retirees, when in fact we said we were a young couple on their honeymoon. It might be different for other countries, as we have friends who have been happy with Audley’s service to the US, but we found it completely overpriced but more importantly unjustifiably so as we couldn’t see any added value.

So much more than a travel agent

Where do I start. Twice we have booked with Audley and twice we have reason to thank our lucky stars that we did. The first was a safari trip that had to be cancelled because of Covid. We were offered or money back with no quibbles. The second and more recent time was on a trip to Vietnam organised by their Indochina expert Ross Cleary. We were on the final day of a 19 day trip to Vietnam and Cambodia which given the quality the hotels and excursions arranged by Ross was shaping up to be the best holiday we had ever taken. Unfortunately my wife developed breathing difficulties and I had to take her to hospital. The hospital decided to admit her and we were left very frightened and wondering what to do about our flights which were due to leave in 4 hours time. There is a 7 hour time difference between U.K. and Vietnam so it was the middle of the night in the U.K. However, one phone call to the Audley duty manager had me connected to him via "whatsapp" so that he could update me real time on the situation without the £7 per minute phone charges. The flights were postponed, I was put up in the closest hotel to the hospital and Audley took care of all the minutiae so that I could concentrate on my wife who was diagnosed with pneumonia. Upon being discharged my wife was told she could not travel immediately. We spent a total of 8 days in a hotel arranged by Audleys local partners Vidotours. A fantastic hotel at a very reasonable price. The hotel bill was covered until I got home and the flights were re-instated for a tiny admin fee. We don't always use a travel company to book our holidays, but visiting out of the way places where local knowledge and support can be invaluable I would thoroughly recommend Audley. These guys are so much more than a travel agent. No prizes for guessing that I will be using them on my next big excursion. Thank you. Pete

Could not have been better

We went to Antigua last year for our 25th Anniversary and stayed at Galley Bay. We liked it a lot and went back this year. As we only left the resort to go on a helicopter tour, this year we decided to add a few days in English Harbour at a hotel that another couple had recommended to us to give us the opportunity to try some different restaurants. The same couple recommended their travel agent – Audley travel - so that is where we went. I was suspicious as to whether they would add any value as I can book my own flights and negotiate deals with hotels but we were extremely pleased with the service from Isabelle – their Caribbean specialist. More on this later. We worked with her to optimise the price for the flights. Although I have over 500k miles still with BA, reward flights were out of the question but we managed to get Virgin Upper for £5,500 (compared to BA quote of around £10k for Club which is just not quite as good) Audley managed all of the booking process at our selected hotels so we had a single contact point. The arrangements were faultless and we were kept informed at all times. The itinerary was well presented and we had both an electronic version and a high-quality folder with all the paperwork and recommendations for trips and restaurants as well as quality luggage tags. It all makes you feel good. On landing in Antigua we were met at the bottom of the jetway by a representative of Audley (St James travel) who took us straight to the front of the queue at immigration (we never knew such service existed). Having passed through that, our bags were just coming round the carousel so the rep took them off, led us into the outside world where we had to wait about 5 minutes for our private transfer (only because we were early!). We were in the car less than 20 minutes from touching down. Last time I achieved that was on a hand baggage only trip with Ryanair to Salzburg. All thanks to Audley. The inter hotel transfer and return transfer to the airport were faultless as was the post holiday catch up call. Were already working with Audley on next years break using Isabelles extensive knowledge of the hotels and options

TOP NOTCH HOLIDAY! Just back from an amazing holiday…

Just back from an amazing holiday travelling through Malaysia and Singapore with multiple stops. Everything was outstanding and superbly planned with lots of special moments. Brilliant service and attention to detail

We booked a "once in a lifetime" 5 week trip to Singapore and Australia in January/February 2023, which we started to plan in early 2022 and ultimately booked in April 2022. Thailand holiday

Were do i start ... We first spoke to Mel and give her a few ideas of what we wanted . Mel came back with the best trip we've ever had. We have just confirmed our journey to Canada

We have just confirmed our journey to Canada for Sept 2024 to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary! Seeing the Rockies and Wildlife are our main interests. We started our Audley journey with a teams call with Claire Garnett who accurately noted exactly what we were looking for in our trip, after the call we began to feel really excited that this trip could truly happen. Our information was then passed onto Lucy Flynn, Audleys Senior Canada Specialist - during this call Lucy really began to bring the trip to life and shared many of her own experiences and suggestions. Within 24 hours of this call Lucy had compiled a very detailed first draft itinerary. We were extremely delighted and only changed 2 things 1. To upgrade a whale watching trip including a sea plane and to add an additional day before coming home. Thailand booked with Shannon

Shannon has helped us book our trip to Thailand. We spoke with her over Teams. Although we knew we wanted to go to Thailand we didn’t know much about where to go and Shannon was an absolute wealth of knowledge. She made suggestion after suggestion and recommended things that were appropriate for us as a family. Audley representative Mark H used his skills and insight to organise with us a trip to Laos, Vietnam and Pho Quoc island. Mexico - We booked a trip with Sam that we took in January/February 2023. Everything ran to plan and smoothly from the flights to the transfers and day trips. Hotels that were chosen for us were excellent too. We shall be looking to book another trip with Audley in the future.

We booked a multi centre Thailand trip in 2019 for travel March 2020. Throughout the pandemic Audley were with us all the way, informing, updating and reassuring. Touring the Top 10 Moscow Metro Stations

Komsomolskaya metro station looks like a museum. It has vaulted ceilings and baroque decor.

Hidden underground, in the heart of Moscow, are historical and architectural treasures of Russia. These are Soviet-era creations – the metro stations of Moscow.

Our guide Maria introduced these elaborate metro stations as “the palaces for the people.” Built between 1937 and 1955, each station holds its own history and stories. Stalin had the idea of building beautiful underground spaces that the masses could enjoy. They would look like museums, art centers, concert halls, palaces and churches. Each would have a different theme. None would be alike.

The two-hour private tour was with a former Intourist tour guide named Maria. Maria lived in Moscow all her life and through the communist era of 60s to 90s. She has been a tour guide for more than 30 years. Being in her 60s, she moved rather quickly for her age. We traveled and crammed with Maria and other Muscovites on the metro to visit 10 different metro stations.

Moscow subways are very clean

To Maria, every street, metro and building told a story. I couldn’t keep up with her stories. I don’t remember most of what she said because I was just thrilled being in Moscow.   Added to that, she spilled out so many Russian words and names, which to one who can’t read Cyrillic, sounded so foreign and could be easily forgotten.

The metro tour was the first part of our all day tour of Moscow with Maria. Here are the stations we visited:

1. Komsomolskaya Metro Station  is the most beautiful of them all. Painted yellow and decorated with chandeliers, gold leaves and semi precious stones, the station looks like a stately museum. And possibly decorated like a palace. I saw Komsomolskaya first, before the rest of the stations upon arrival in Moscow by train from St. Petersburg.

2. Revolution Square Metro Station (Ploshchad Revolyutsii) has marble arches and 72 bronze sculptures designed by Alexey Dushkin. The marble arches are flanked by the bronze sculptures. If you look closely you will see passersby touching the bronze dog's nose. Legend has it that good luck comes to those who touch the dog's nose.

3. Arbatskaya Metro Station served as a shelter during the Soviet-era. It is one of the largest and the deepest metro stations in Moscow.

4. Biblioteka Imeni Lenina Metro Station was built in 1935 and named after the Russian State Library. It is located near the library and has a big mosaic portrait of Lenin and yellow ceramic tiles on the track walls.

5. Kievskaya Metro Station was one of the first to be completed in Moscow. Named after the capital city of Ukraine by Kiev-born, Nikita Khruschev, Stalin's successor.

6. Novoslobodskaya Metro Station  was built in 1952. It has 32 stained glass murals with brass borders.

7. Kurskaya Metro Station was one of the first few to be built in Moscow in 1938. It has ceiling panels and artwork showing Soviet leadership, Soviet lifestyle and political power. It has a dome with patriotic slogans decorated with red stars representing the Soviet's World War II Hall of Fame. Kurskaya Metro Station is a must-visit station in Moscow.

8. Mayakovskaya Metro Station built in 1938. It was named after Russian poet Vladmir Mayakovsky. This is one of the most beautiful metro stations in the world with 34 mosaics painted by Alexander Deyneka.

9. Belorusskaya Metro Station is named after the people of Belarus. In the picture below, there are statues of 3 members of the Partisan Resistance in Belarus during World War II. The statues were sculpted by Sergei Orlov, S. Rabinovich and I. Slonim.

10. Teatralnaya Metro Station (Theatre Metro Station) is located near the Bolshoi Theatre.
