Adaptive cruise control supplements conventional cruise control with an active vehicle-to-vehicle distance control feature. Designed for use on freeways and express ways, in vehicle-to-vehicle distance control mode, your car automatically accelerates or decelerates in order to maintain a preset following distance from the vehicle traveling directly ahead of you.
To activate the system, press the "ON/OFF" button at the end of the stalk on the lower end of the right side of the steering wheel. The radar-ready indicator will appear in the Multi Information Display.
Accelerate or decelerate to your intended speed, then press the stalk down to set it. If you want to go faster, push the stalk upward and hold until you've reached the desired speed and then release it. Or, if you want to slow down, push the stalk down and hold as you decelerate, then release it once you've reached the desired speed.
To cancel cruise control, tap the brakes, pull the stalk towards you or turn the system off with the ON/OFF button.
Adaptive Cruise Control was designed to maintain the preset distance between your car and the car driving in the same lane directly ahead of you.
When it’s active, it automatically adjusts for changes in the speed of the vehicle traveling directly ahead of you in order to maintain the vehicle-to-vehicle distance you set.
In the event that you would like to change the preset distance between vehicles, you can do so by using the radar range button located on the lower right side of the steering wheel. Simply press the button repeatedly to cycle through the ranges available. You'll find them displayed on the Multi Information Display. And finally, you can disable the distance holding feature by pushing the cruise control stalk away and holding it until the indicator disappears and the conventional cruise control indicator lights up.

- Auris Touring Sport
Toyota Auris Touring Sports Hybrid interior and comfort
You’ll praise the toyota auris touring sports hybrid for its standard equipment more than its tactility.
If you’re looking for a car that places substance over style, you’ll love the Toyota Auris Touring Sports Hybrid. It has a no-nonsense design that feels robust and capable of handling all a family, or a hard day on the road, could throw at it. It just lacks the nice-feeling materials you’d find in an Audi A3 e-tron or Volkswagen e-Golf .
Toyota Auris Touring Sports Hybrid dashboard
The Auris looks rather conservative inside, but there’s plenty of technology to keep driver and passengers entertained. Every model has a seven-inch touchscreen which operates the Bluetooth connectivity and DAB radio. Compared to this, the digital clock looks like it’s from the 1980s.
Elsewhere the dash is well laid-out, with clearly labelled instruments and well placed buttons that are easy to read and operate. The multifunction steering wheel enables you to make calls and adjust the radio settings without taking your eyes off the road.
The main difference you’ll find in the hybrid compared to petrol-powered models is the instrument display, which has the rev counter swapped for an efficiency dial. This shows how much you’re taking – or putting back into – the batteries. The needle swings back and forth, and it can become all-encompassing to ensure you’re driving as economically as possible. There’s also a display for battery charge and fuel consumption.
Equipment, options and accessories
Unlike some models, the hybrid version of the Auris Touring Sports is available in every trim level. You can choose from Icon, Icon Tech, Design and Excel.
Icon comes with air-conditioning, LED daytime running lights, Bluetooth connectivity, remote-control central locking and electric windows, as well as automatic headlamps and individual reading lights for the front and rear seats. Importantly, it also comes with the Toyota Safety Sense system, which includes autonomous emergency braking. Icon Tech adds cruise control and sat nav powered by TomTom. Auris Design gives a bit more visual impact, with 17-inch alloy wheels and tinted glass outside and sports seats trimmed in Alcantara suede on the inside. Tech includes all-round parking sensors, folding mirrors, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror and rain-sensing wipers.
Excel provides a few more comfort-orientated features like heated leather seats, dual-zone air-conditioning, keyless entry and start and voice recognition for the infotainment system. There are also LED headlights and a different style of 17-inch alloy wheels. It also opens up the option of a 'Skyview' panoramic sunroof – the only model in the range to have this.
Infotainment, apps & sat nav
Although every Auris Hybrid has the Toyota Touch 2 infotainment system fitted as standard, the range of functions depends on trim. You’ll need to go for Icon Tech for sat nav, and Design for voice recognition.
Models with sat nav can access online services such as Google StreetView and real-time traffic information when your smartphone is connected to the system. The range-topping Excel also adds voice control, text-to-speech announcements and 3D mapping by TomTom. Despite all this, the system looks dated, is a pain to use and doesn't offer Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, making it one of the worst systems in the class.

Adaptive cruise control for 2018 Toyota Auris hybrid
Discussion in ' Toyota Hybrids and EVs ' started by awarberg , Mar 1, 2018 .

awarberg New Member
This car comes with Toyota Safety Sense (SS) but does not include adaptive cruise control (ACC) like some other Toyota models with SS (this one only has manual cruise control). It does have automatic emergency braking, however, so should have the necessary front-facing radar. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Is it possible to upgrade the manual cruise control to ACC on this car without installing new sensors and wiring? I don't expect a firmware upgrade would be sufficient, but maybe a limited hardware upgrade, such as steering wheel as well.
Tideland Prius Moderator of the North Staff Member
Sounds like TSS-C (same system we have in our "Auris" called the Corolla iM in North America). Well you'd need an actual millimeter wave radar to replace the lidar on the windshield for one.

Toyota Auris Dashboard Warning Lights (All Models 2006 to 2020)
Welcome to the ultimate guide to all dashboard symbols, warning lights, errors and faults for the 2006 to 2020 Toyota Auris to assist in troubleshooting, diagnosis and solving these problems.
Please note: This guide covers every single possible symbol/warning light for ALL model variations for Toyota Auris, including standard, premium and top-of-the-line models, plus variations in body shape. While this guide does cover your specific car , your car may not have all the symbols featured on this list.
Toyota Auris Symbols Guide
There are 25+ possible lights that may illuminate for a variety of reasons.
While this guide is helpful, please refer to your owner’s manual after reading through this list.
Toyota Auris Engine Fault
There are hundreds of reasons why the check engine warning fault light comes on, and only your dealer or mechanic is qualified to address this.
Common reasons include a loose fuel cap, excess vibration, a blocked cylinder, a bad fuel mix, excessive heat and half power.
This may also highlight an issue with your transmission.
Toyota Auris Check Engine Oil
This means your engine oil is running low or has been completely drained. Your engine may have an extensive oil leak and a mechanic will be required urgently.
At this stage, it’s not recommended that you drive your vehicle.
Toyota Auris Attention / Warning / Fault Detected
Either of these two lights will illuminate to get your attention to other dashboard warning lights and symbols.
These lights can also mean that the handbrake is engaged.
Toyota Auris Battery
This means your battery has low voltage and may need a replacing.
Should you choose to drive your vehicle with a faulty battery, you risk losing power to your battery at high speeds.
Many mechanics will prefer to visit your home to replace your car’s engine battery, rather than have you drive to them.
Toyota Auris Press Foot Brake
This symbol is your Toyota Auris telling you to press the foot brake.
This is required before starting the engine and moving the vehicle out of Park.
Toyota Auris Handbrake Engaged
Your handbrake is engaged.
This can be disengaged by hand, or your vehicle may have a handbrake that is disengaged with your foot.
Toyota Auris Airbag Fault
This means your driver’s side or passenger side airbag has a fault and may not deploy when required. However, it’s quite common for this light to illuminate due to a faulty sensor, rather than a faulty airbag.
Take your vehicle to your mechanic for inspection as soon as possible.
Toyota Auris High Radiator Coolant Temperature
This symbol represents excessive heat from your engine’s radiator. If ignored, you risk overheating your engine very quickly.
Common reasons are a low coolant level and a leak in the radiator.
Call or visit a mechanic immediately.
Toyota Auris Parking Sensors
This symbol represents the front or rear parking sensors. You will also hear an audible beep as you get closer to a wall, pole, tree or other object when reversing.
Toyota Auris Bulb Not Working
This means one of your driving lights has stopped working and requires either a bulb replacement or fuse replacement.
Toyota Auris Low Beam Lights On
This means your front standard driving lights are on.
These lights are used for 99.9% of driving.
Toyota Auris High Beam Lights On
This means your front high-beam driving lights are on.
These lights are used for 0.01% of driving and typically for country roads late at night. Fines can apply for use of high beams in dense residential areas. Do NOT use high team driving lights within 400 metres (1,000 feet) of an oncoming car.
Toyota Auris Automatic Low Beam Lights On
This means your front automatic standard driving lights are on.
These will illuminate by themselves on dusk, when entering tunnels and in other low light situations.
Toyota Auris Automatic High Beam Lights On
This means your front automatic high-beam driving lights are on.
Please be wary that these lights do not turn themselves on automatically around other cars.
Toyota Auris Automatic Lights Malfunction
Toyota Auris’s come with automatic lights, however, these can malfunction.
This is often an issue with the front low-light sensor. You may continue to drive and simply use your normal on/off headlight function until you visit a mechanic.
Toyota Auris Glow Plug Indicator Symbol
This is the Glow Plug Indicator symbol, which is found only in diesel-powered variants of Toyota Auris. Diesel engines require heat in the cylinders to operate, which is supplied initially by its glow plugs when the engine is freezing cold.
When illuminating green, this is operating perfectly but when yellow, a fault may exist.
Toyota Auris Vehicle Is In Park
This means your vehicle is in Park.
Toyota Auris Hood / Bonnet Is Open
While your front hood/bonnet may appear closed, it may show open on the sensor.
Toyota Auris Front Fog Lights Enabled
This means your Toyota Auris front fog lights are engaged. A similar symbol exists for the rear warning lights.
Note: In some areas, it is illegal to use fog lights when it isn’t foggy. Please check with your local authority.
Toyota Auris ABS System Fault / ABS System Off
Your vehicle’s ABS system has a fault and may not engage under heavy braking.
Please visit a mechanic as soon as possible.
Toyota Auris ECO Mode On
ECO mode in a Toyota Auris is an optimum driving mode.
Your throttle will not respond favorably to performance driving.
Instead, your fuel economy will be at its best, hence the term ‘Eco’.
Toyota Auris Truck / Boot Open
While your rear trunk/boot may appear closed, it may show open on the sensor.
Toyota Auris Front Radar Engaged
This means your front sensor is engaged.
This feature provides autonomous braking and adaptative cruise control.
Toyota Auris Lane Assistant On
This means your lane-keeping assistant is on.
This feature allows your vehicle to remain straight within its lane.
This may only engage above 40km/h or 25mp/h.
Toyota Auris ESP / ESC Engaged
This means your Toyota’s Electronic Stability Programme (or Electronic Stability Control in some countries) has been engaged.
This typically engages on wet, muddy or icy roads.
Toyota Auris Check Brake Fluid
This means your brake fluid has become low and may require topping up.
Toyota Auris Check Brake Pads
This means your brake pads have become low.
This may be difficult to check and may require visiting a mechanic as soon as possible.
Toyota Auris Steering Wheel Locked
This means your steering wheel is locked.
This is an anti-theft symbol that flashes when your vehicle is locked.
Toyota Auris Service Due Soon
This means your vehicle is due for servicing soon.
Your mechanic may have programmed an alert within your car’s computer to illuminate this symbol upon crossing a certain odometer reading.
Toyota Auris Heated Seats
This means your heated seats are on.
The number of vertical lines represents the level of heat.
Toyota Auris Cruise Control Activated
This means your cruise control has been activated and is ready to use.
However, your cruise control will not be on. It’s simply ready to switch on.
Cars often use 2-buttons to avoid accidentally turning on cruise control.
Toyota Auris Check Wheel
This means you have an issue with your wheel.
This isn’t the rubber tire but the wheel itself.
Issues include alignment, steering and balance.
Toyota Auris Heated Windscreen
This means your windscreen is being heated to melt frost or ice.
This may turn itself off automatically.
Toyota Auris Air Suspension Fault
If your Toyota Auris has air suspension, then this symbol represents a fault.
This could be a deflated rear suspension air bag, an air leak or a sensor issue.
Toyota Auris Tire Air Pressure Fault
This means your tire pressure is either too low, or the sensor has faulted.
This requires calling or visiting your dealership as soon as possible.
Toyota Auris Intermediate Windscreen Wipers On
This means your automatic windscreen wipers are on. No action is required.
Ultimately, your car is trying to tell you something. You should consult your owner’s manual and have your car inspected by a qualified mechanic as soon as possible.
Symbols Have Different Colors
Much like traffic lights, the color of your dashboard symbol light is just as important as what it means. The lights can also flash to draw your attention to a more severe and time-sensitive issue.
When a Toyota dashboard warning light is green or blue, they are simply telling you that one of your car’s features is being used, or has been activated. No action is required at this time.
When a light is yellow, your car is trying to tell you that a less common safety feature of the car is being used (such as stability control on wet roads), a mild fault has been detected or a repair may be required. If you’re unsure, you should seek the services of a mechanic or dealership as soon as possible.
Orange or Red
If the dashboard on your Toyota is orange or red, this can be a signal that your vehicle is experiencing a problem that needs urgent attention . You MUST call or visit your dealership or mechanic immediately.

New Toyota Auris: first pictures and details
Following a summer packed with new Toyota model launches, we can finally take the wraps off the all-new Auris .
As these first pictures show, it has much sharper exterior styling than the current model, in line with the latest Toyota design cues that we’ve seen in new Yaris and Yaris Hybrid . It adopts the new Toyota “face” with its strong grille design and sharp-edged headlights.

Overall, the body has been made more aerodynamically efficient, which helps improve fuel consumption and reduce emissions.
Details of UK specifications are yet to be finalised, but new Auris will introduce Skyview, one of the largest panoramic roofs in the compact hatchback market. The designers were also keen to give the car a strong sense of visual unity, reflected in the consistency of the interior lighting, colours, finishes and even the font used for the graphics.
Toyota was the first manufacturer to offer a compact hatchback with choice of three powertrains this continues with the new model. Efficiency and dynamic improvements have been made to the Hybrid Synergy Drive system, in Auris Hybrid. In the UK the new model will also feature 1.4-litre diesel and 1.33 and 1.6-litre petrol engines.
The new model will be given its European premiere on 27 September. Details of UK sales introduction, specifications and prices will be announced at a later date.

Huge improvement on the old Auris – looking forward to the version with the BMW diesel, and I echo what the others have said – it needs a space saver spare tyre option not just a puncture repair kit, we have one of those in our Verso and after a nightmare getting the tyre repaired when it got punctured quickly bought a space saver from our local dealer. It’s a tactic to get the co2 figures down by reducing vehicle weight but is hopeless if you live in a remote area.
Has anyone experienced a slow return of the accelerator, ie lag .This is on the 1.3 petrol auris This is my 5th Toyota , clocked up just over 400thousand miles in total over 23yrs, and the first time I’ve experienced this small niggle, looking forward to my next Toyota.
are you selling the old one??
Hi I am looking at trading my New Auris Hybrid Excel, (hate the gearbox & whine), in for a Manual 1.4 diesel Excel version, Earlier in the year when it was snowing I bought 4 spare 17″ alloys & have winter tyres fitted to them, for winter use, they are brilliant on snow etc, and would like to know can I order a diesel with 17″ wheels, so i can use them on that vehicle too, Also can I have cruise control as the brochure is not clear regards John
Hi John, Cruise control isn’t available on the 1.4 diesel. With regards to wheel size, we recommend speaking directly with your Dealer as they’ll be able to advise on availability and fit. The 16″ wheels come as standard but again your Dealer will be able to help with discussing the 17″ wheels. Hope this helps.
I now have 4 winter tyres on 17 inch rims that I will be selling that will fit a 2013 Auris that has17’s as standard, as insurance company say if I have a car that has 16 inch when delivered I cannot use17’s The cost of getting brand new standard 17’s on. New Diesel with Tyres is not cost effective as I would have to take the 16’s as spares? They won’t compromise,
Im thinking to get myself a new toyota auris but what is this im hearing that the car Does not come with spare wheel? I mean how possible is that
Hello Anastaciah Thanks for your post. The Toyota Auris will come with a tyre repair kit as standard, but it is possible to buy a space saver spare wheel as an accessory item for those owners who would prefer one in their car. Hope this helps.
Anyone got any views on the skyview panoramic roof. Good or bad please ?

Just bought the Auris Hybrid, but it emits a couple of beeps from time to time. What do they mean?

Do you have the sat nav module fitted - Toyota Touch & Go? If so, it is probably the speed camera warnings.
Mine did this, so I disabled the speed camera warning in the satnav and it has stopped.
Thanks for the replies I thought it may be this but seems to happen when not near any speed cameras, but will try switching it off to see.
On another thing the sat nav speed limit notification seems to register 50 mph in a 60 limit, 40 & 30 are right.
Probably because your satnav has not been updated, mine doesn’t recognise new junctions etc, because of this. But to pay £106 to update my maps seems a bit much, when my TomTom has free updates.

In a 2016 I think that you should have 3 years of free updates (i can't remember exactly when this was introduced).
The mapping is always at least 6 months out of date by the time that Toyota release it so if the road has changed meantime it will be wrong.
The warning beeps can come several hundred yards before the camera & on a couple of routes that I use regularly I will get the warning even though I ultimately don't actually pass the camera that the warning is for.

2016 should come with 3 years worth of free map updates, if your car is on old interface you will have to update that first through owners portal on toyota.co.uk
You are right, the updates are free. Or they are for my 2016 Auris. Go to my-toyota and register your car. You go to the e-store, click on the update. Which is priced at £109, click to send it to your basket. Where it should appear as £0 transaction. Click download to usb stick. Just waiting for it to download, I’ll then let you know if it’s easy to instal into the car.

You don't want to download to an USB stick iirc. You download to PC then expand that file to the USB stick.
I suggest that you only install the maps that you are likely to use (probably UK only unless you take the car to the continent) - this will save you a fair amount of time installing into the car (installing all maps can take over an hour).
Also, the engine has to be running (iirc the Hybrid is slightly different, has to be in Ready?) during updating as otherwise the head unit would shut down after 15-20 minutes to protect the Battery & if you are flashing firmware & it is interrupted you could end up with an inoperable head unit.
You lost me at iirc
iirc= if I remember correctly

I understand the download to pc, but then I have no idea what to do, you say expand the file to the usb, what do you mean. The download file on the pc shows several lines, I selected all, but a message said it was too big for the stick (16gb). So which one do i select ? Sorry if I appear stupid, but i do not understand any of this.
the downloaded file is in a compressed form, unzipping expands it. https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/4028088/windows-zip-and-unzip-files
Personally , I use WinRar to unzip https://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
You should end up with a folder (in my case 6.10.0WL & within that files as per attached (I have the standard [ L ow], not Plus, version of Touch 2 with Go - if you have the Plus version your file name will end with an H [ H igh]). For me that folder is 4.22 Gb.
Take that whole folder & copy it to your USB stick.

Thanks for your help and patience. The screen shot you posted is what I see, but what do I do with it, where do I click, what folder do I copy ?
i think I’ll give up now, and sleep on it.
Once again, very many thanks for your patience, but I think this is completely beyond me. I’ll see my dealer and get them to sort it.
OK, in the below screenshot there are 2 files shown.
1. a folder 6.10.0WL - this is the expanded version of the file below
2. a file called 6.10.0WL.zip - this is what I/you downloaded from Toyota
So, click on the .zip file that you downloaded & either using File Explorer (as shown in the earlier link to Microsoft support that I posted) or another programme like WinRar that I also linked earlier expand that file.
That should give you a folder (as in 1. in this post). Copy that folder (with the 7 items in it) to your USB memory stick.
Finally, the update is on a usb and the car is done. Long process, not the fast download and install. But at least it was free.
Thanks to Heidfirst for all the help.

Thanks for your help.👍👍👍👍👍

Has this 2 beeps been resolved? I have the same issue ony 2018 Auris Hybrid.
Egis. Do you use cruise control? If you set your cruise control but exceed the set speed you will get two beeps.
This can occur on undulating roads. You crest a rise and the car accelerates above the set speed before settling back.
Beeps on these cars usually comes with messages too. Or flashing icons or warning lights. Next time beeps again try to look and see what is say on the dashboard.
Just a thought, could the speed camera warning beeps also be covering mobile camera locations even though 99% of the time no camera will be present?
I always get two 'beeps' when I'm approaching a fixed speed camera. SatNav on or off, it makes no difference. ( Just FYI: I also get a chime when I'm approaching an average speed enforcement road. Updated the map/navigation in 2022 and this was a new feature. See attached.)

Check if your speed limit beep setup is ON. It is on the steering right button setup. Go to vehicle setting and you have choice for BEEP above certain speed limit or to disable it. There is also beep for crossing/keep lane assist.
