This bag is non-toxic and makes waste disposal safe. The Unisex adapter allows for ease of use for anyone and everyone while sitting (providing there is the use of gravity with an unobstructed, free-flowing opening or standing, and a spill guard to prevents back flow during use.

So you finally got TSA pre-check. Here's how to avoid being the most annoying person in line and get through fastest.

• TSA PreCheck is an airport-security express lane that can save you time while traveling.

• Gilbert Ott, a travel expert, said that these etiquette tips can keep you from holding up the line.

TSA PreCheck can save you so much time in airports, especially during the summer — the TSA reports that 2024 will see the busiest summer travel season yet.

The season will kick off Memorial Day weekend, when the TSA predicts that upwards of 18 million people will travel through airports around the US between May 23 and May 29. TSA checkpoints will likely screen more than 3 million people per day later in the season, according to the agency  — breaking current records on summer travel.

In the TSA PreCheck line, pre-screened travelers can go through security quickly without taking off their shoes or removing electronics or liquids from their carry-on bags . It costs $78 to enroll for five years, but you can get the service essentially for free through credit cards such as Capital One Venture, Capital One Venture X, Chase Sapphire Reserve, Delta SkyMiles, and American Express.

In November 2023, the TSA reported that more than 17 million Americans have TSA PreCheck.

Gilbert Ott, who says he flies more than 200,000 miles a year and has been blogging about flying for the past decade, told Business Insider that the express airport-security lane makes his life easier. Ott's blog, called God Save the Points , covers everything from airline news and flight reviews to travel tips and money-saving hacks, such as how to best use credit-card points. 

"I spend too much time in airports. As much as I may love them, sometimes the less time I spend in them, the happier I am," Ott said. "So the quicker I can get through and just be on a plane, the better."

While the TSA PreCheck line is often full of frequent fliers , those who are new to the program, which requires a background check, may not be as savvy when it comes to security etiquette, especially during the busy holiday rush. Ott said this can cause the line to move slower, but he shared his best tips for TSA PreCheck travelers.

Pre-strip before you even get to the airport

Pre-stripping is removing everything you may need to take off at security, from big jackets to the contents of your pockets, before you get there.

"When I go to the airport, I take my belt off before I get there. I have it in my backpack , knowing I'll put it on as soon as I get through PreCheck," Ott told BI. "So keep the jewels and the watch in your bag. Then, when you get to the other side of security where you're not holding people up, you can do the glamour."

Ott said this process will make people move through the line quicker. 

"My routine is somewhere along the lines of comfy jeans, a T-shirt or hoodie, and then a bomber jacket," he said. "Essentials like my phone and passport go in my bomber jacket pockets while I wait in the queue so that when I step up to the scanners, my jacket is off, pockets are empty, my bags go on the trays, and off we go."

Leave the flashy shoes in your bag

TSA PreCheck passengers aren't required to take off their shoes. But in Ott's experience, passengers who wear fancy loafers or shoes with buckles or studs often get stopped because they set off the scanner. 

"The main thing is metal, either as part of the shoe or in the boot or heel of the shoe," Ott said. "Ceramic and rubber are usually fine. Basically, sneakers tend to always work."

Be ready before it's your turn

When you first get in line, Ott recommends having your boarding pass and identification out before it's your turn to show them. That way, you won't spend time searching for these documents while others wait behind you. 

If everyone followed Ott's advice, he said he thinks we'd all get through security faster. 

"If you think of the 20 seconds it takes somebody to do this very basic thing, and you'd multiply that by 50,000 people going through an airport's screens a day, you could pretty much just walk through an airport without stopping," Ott told BI. "We can all have a better time."

Would you pick up a wet, stinking pile of rubbish from the canal towpath?

I know what you’re thinking – that’s disgusting. And you’d be right.

Yet I regularly pick up mounds of slimy, rotting trash. And I won’t be stopping any time soon, because every time I do, I feel a weird sense of catharsis.

This all started in 2012, shortly after I’d moved to Salford Quays and was taking a walk along the canal to relax.

But thanks to the plethora of rubbish littering the way, what should have been a peaceful stroll ended up triggering my acute eco-anxiety .

I was shocked to see the sheer volume of plastic bottles, beer cans and empty wrappers that had washed up on the bank. And it was heartbreaking to see the birds routing through the trash.

As a keen photographer and traveller, I’ve seen the impact of rubbish on wildlife both here and abroad.

I’ve witnessed a mother bird trying to feed her chick plastic, cows chewing on crisp packets and monkeys biting through plastic straws.

More than once I’ve binned styrofoam covered in teeth marks from rats that have swallowed this toxic packaging while scavenging for kebab leftovers. 

News of extreme weather events and the rapid decline of all of the Earth’s wildlife often leaves me feeling powerless about the state of our planet. And frankly, It makes me sick that we treat the planet with such utter contempt. 

But for some reason, I don’t think I’d ever truly appreciated the extent of our litter problem until it was happening in my own home town.

Once it had opened my eyes though, I found it impossible to ignore. So, instead of feeling guilty and just walking by, I decided to start using my free time on weekends to pick up what rubbish I could.

The first time I filled my bag with litter, I felt a surge of pride. The bank was clear and it felt nice to do something that actually made a difference.

Of course, the work was never done. Each day more rubbish would wash in and it was only me, a black bin liner and a pair of gloves ready to tackle it. And yes, there were days when it felt like a fruitless task.

There was no financial reward for the hours I spent doing this, nor did anyone ever thank me for my efforts. But I didn’t care.

I knew it was something that had to be done. So I kept at it, collecting one bag a week.

Even though I moved out of the area in April 2015, I’ve continued to pick up litter wherever I go because sadly nowhere is unspoiled.

I’ve collected rubbish on coasts, lakes, rivers, car parks and all manner of places around the world including the cluttered beaches of the Maldives and plastic waste at Nepal’s Everest Base Camp.

Most of the time, I’ll pick up the same items like plastic bottles and beer cans. But I often come across kids’ toys, car seats and old prams too.

The worst things I have to deal with are used condoms and various containers full of vomit or urine, yet these aren’t even the things that shock me most.

In fact, it’s only when I come across dead animals – usually seagulls or rats – that I get upset, as I wonder if it was the rubbish that killed them.

Generally, if I see litter, I’ll pick it up – there’s always gloves and bags in my car ready to go. It has meant that, over the past 11 years, I’ve collected what I’ve conservatively estimated to be 150 bags of trash in total.

And while I am proud of that, I wish it wasn’t needed in the first place. But sadly, we are living in a litter epidemic.

There are an estimated 2,000 litter-picking groups in the UK, yet despite all their efforts, there is still so much rubbish on our roads and in our rivers.

While researchers often point the finger at young men, in my experience, everyone litters. Adults, children, smokers, vapers, tradespeople and drivers, whether they are doing it knowingly or not, all litter.

It doesn’t matter what guise it’s under – contractors working on electricity boxes that leave behind bits of wire and cable ties, kids who drop their bottle caps on the ground and people who somehow miss the waste bin – it’s all litter, and it all contributes to the problem.

Have I seen people litter first hand? Of course.

I’ve seen the same areas getting trashed over and over again. I’ve stood on the pavement as someone has thrown rubbish from a car or lorry window. And I’ve noticed that the most littered places are always the area next to a bin. 

But have I ever called it out there and then? No.

I think British people are very reactive to being called out, and probably won’t care what I think so I keep it to myself and clear up after them if I can.

Sometimes this has led to people spontaneously joining in and on the whole, I’m thankful that my experience has only ever been a positive one.

Nowadays, I’m more likely to pick up one bag of rubbish per month than per week – mainly because I’ve moved to the countryside and there is not as much litter on my street or as much time after having my son. But I still do my part.

Even my 90-year-old neighbour does their bit. He has cleaned our street for years and while I hope that I will be like him in years to come, I would love it if it wasn’t necessary. 

To make a real change, we should start by getting rid of outdoor bins. That may sound counterproductive but it would encourage people to take their rubbish home rather than chucking it next to a full bin only for it to blow away or attract wildlife.

I would also love to see large-scale freecycle centres where people could give and take things they no longer want instead of dumping them. Similarly, better reuse and recycling incentives, like return schemes, would give value to stuff we think of as ‘trash’ too. 

Sadly, all that feels like a pipedream when we live in such a disposable society . But I hold on to the hope that one day it might change.

Because given the state in which we have left the Earth, the very least we can do is be responsible enough to make sure an animal doesn’t choke on our leftover crisp packets.

That’s why, even if I only pick up one thing every now and then I allow myself to feel proud. Because I know I am making a difference, and in this case, every little will help.

Singapore Airlines plane made 'dramatic drop,' people flung into lockers, passenger says

There was little warning of the chaos that was about to be unleashed onboard  Singapore Airlines flight SQ321 .

With around three hours left on the journey from London to Singapore, Malaysian student Dzafran Azmir got the uneasy feeling the Boeing 777-300ER plane was tilting upwards and beginning to shake.

The 28-year-old braced himself and checked he had his seatbelt on. He did. Many of the other passengers did not, he said.

"Suddenly there was a very dramatic drop so everyone seated and not wearing seatbelt was launched immediately into the ceiling, some people hit their heads on the baggage cabins overhead and dented it, they hit the places where lights and masks are and broke straight through it," Azmir told Reuters.

"People dropped to the ground, my phone flew out of my hand and went a couple aisles to the side, people's shoes flung about," he added.

One passenger was killed and 30 injured after the flight from London fell into an air pocket before encountering turbulence en route on Tuesday, forcing it to make an emergency landing in Bangkok, officials and the airline said.

"The crew and people inside lavatories were hurt the most because we discovered people just on the ground not able to get up. There were a lot of spinal and head injuries," Azmir said.

The captain informed passengers they would be making an emergency landing in Thailand's capital Bangkok.

Once the plane was on the tarmac, nurses and rescue workers came in to check on the injured, Azmir said.

"I don't think they anticipated how bad it was," he said.

Ambulances later arrived and Azmir said he saw at least 8 people on stretchers being pulled out of the emergency exits. It took 90 minutes to evacuate the plane, he said.
