Operating for more than 50 years, the Conch Tour Train is an ideal option for travelers interested in learning the history of Key West, but who don't have a lot of time to spend meandering through different attractions. This 75-minute narrated tour loops through Key West's famous Old Town, focusing on the city's rich history. The tour departs from Front Street and makes three stops along the way for visitors to grab refreshments and stretch their legs, and then wraps at Mallory Square . Passengers can also choose to hop off at a stop to visit nearby attractions and catch a later train.

Recent visitors praised the excellent tour guides, calling them knowledgeable and entertaining. They also said the train was a great way to see Old Town while giving your feet a break from walking. While some travelers thought the tickets were a bit overpriced, others appreciated the tour's convenient hop-on, hop-off structure.

The Conch Tour Train runs every day of the year (except for the last Saturday in October due to Fantasy Fest). Tours depart every 30 minutes starting at 10:15 a.m., with the last tour departing at 4:15 p.m. Ticket prices vary by date, but a one-day ticket for an adult starts at $39.85, kids ages 4-12 start at $20.95 and kids 3 and younger ride for free. Keep in mind, these prices are for online ticket purchases only; prices rise steeply when bought in-person. Want to explore more of Key West with informative guides? It will also extract texts that are embedded within the image, using an OCR (optical character recognition) technology. To turn on screen-reader adjustments at any time, users need only to press the Alt+1 keyboard combination. Screen-reader users also get automatic announcements to turn the Screen-reader mode on as soon as they enter the website. These adjustments are compatible with all popular screen readers, including JAWS and NVDA.
  • Keyboard navigation optimization: The background process also adjusts the website’s HTML, and adds various behaviors using JavaScript code to make the website operable by the keyboard. This includes the ability to navigate the website using the Tab and Shift+Tab keys, operate dropdowns with the arrow keys, close them with Esc, trigger buttons and links using the Enter key, navigate between radio and checkbox elements using the arrow keys, and fill them in with the Spacebar or Enter key.Additionally, keyboard users will find quick-navigation and content-skip menus, available at any time by clicking Alt+1, or as the first elements of the site while navigating with the keyboard. The background process also handles triggered popups by moving the keyboard focus towards them as soon as they appear, and not allow the focus drift outside of it.Users can also use shortcuts such as “M” (menus), “H” (headings), “F” (forms), “B” (buttons), and “G” (graphics) to jump to specific elements.

Disability profiles supported in our website

  • Epilepsy Safe Mode: this profile enables people with epilepsy to use the website safely by eliminating the risk of seizures that result from flashing or blinking animations and risky color combinations.
  • Visually Impaired Mode: this mode adjusts the website for the convenience of users with visual impairments such as Degrading Eyesight, Tunnel Vision, Cataract, Glaucoma, and others.
  • Cognitive Disability Mode: this mode provides different assistive options to help users with cognitive impairments such as Dyslexia, Autism, CVA, and others, to focus on the essential elements of the website more easily.
  • ADHD Friendly Mode: this mode helps users with ADHD and Neurodevelopmental disorders to read, browse, and focus on the main website elements more easily while significantly reducing distractions.
  • Blindness Mode: this mode configures the website to be compatible with screen-readers such as JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, and TalkBack. A screen-reader is software for blind users that is installed on a computer and smartphone, and websites must be compatible with it.
  • Keyboard Navigation Profile (Motor-Impaired): this profile enables motor-impaired persons to operate the website using the keyboard Tab, Shift+Tab, and the Enter keys. Users can also use shortcuts such as “M” (menus), “H” (headings), “F” (forms), “B” (buttons), and “G” (graphics) to jump to specific elements.

Additional UI, design, and readability adjustments

  • Font adjustments – users, can increase and decrease its size, change its family (type), adjust the spacing, alignment, line height, and more.
  • Color adjustments – users can select various color contrast profiles such as light, dark, inverted, and monochrome. Additionally, users can swap color schemes of titles, texts, and backgrounds, with over 7 different coloring options.
  • Animations – epileptic users can stop all running animations with the click of a button. Animations controlled by the interface include videos, GIFs, and CSS flashing transitions.
  • Content highlighting – users can choose to emphasize important elements such as links and titles. They can also choose to highlight focused or hovered elements only.
  • Audio muting – users with hearing devices may experience headaches or other issues due to automatic audio playing. This option lets users mute the entire website instantly.
  • Cognitive disorders – we utilize a search engine that is linked to Wikipedia and Wiktionary, allowing people with cognitive disorders to decipher meanings of phrases, initials, slang, and others.
  • Additional functions – we provide users the option to change cursor color and size, use a printing mode, enable a virtual keyboard, and many other functions.

Really enjoyed our tour - really interesting stories from our driver, Tim, plus a great dinner recommendation

Very poor customer service. Seems like a scam since they were not willing to return tickets that were bought a few minutes ago. Would recommend going with a different service.

I've been to Key West. Few times but usually wander on my own, but I had a few hours before an event and decided to check out the Conch Train Tour. I arrived just as the train was leaving and the next train was leaving in about 20 minutes. I wandered the market and then returned to the office as the next train was arriving, apparently, the train was running late and they quickly boarded starting the safety message as we were departing. The young lady collecting tickets and getting everyone settled was very friendly and got everyone counted and accounted for with the driver Todd. The train itself was quite comfortable, surprisingly at 6'1" I still had leg room. The open-air cars were really nice in the cooler January weather. The tour itself was really informative, Todd shared a lot about the history of the neighborhoods and many of the buildings. The tour took us through a great mix of neighborhoods with a variety of architecture and history. The only comment would be that Todd needs to learn his left from his right as a number of times he pointed out buildings but directed us to the wrong side of the train. It was a good value and a nice way to spend the morning.

Tim G was awesome. Great insight into the history and culture of Key West. Great suggestions for other things to try.

Been there Done that ... more than once ! It's the thing to do if you visit Key west, however, if you have back problems do not board ! Key west route is full of pot holes and the train jumps. Super uncomfortable ! One of the men in our group had to get off the train and call for Uber because he could not stand the jumping on the train. With as many visitors as Key West has ... either fix the streets or take other route ... or let riders know ahead of time that its going to be a Bumpy Ride !!

We took the last train of the day so we weren't able to get off and on but we knew that and was totally okay with that...so I can't speak on wait times. However our tour guide was very friendly and informative. Would definitely take the tour again.

Kenny gave us a great tour. This is my first city tour ever and I can not believe how much I've enjoyed it.

We took this tour on a visit to Key West Florida. There were only 3 stops on the route which didn't leave much time to sightsee or shop without a great deal of walking. While the tour was informative on local history our tour guide detracted from the experience by yelling at pedestrians, drivers, and people parking in his route using his tour microphone. To us this was uncalled for and unprofessional, and at times made things tense for all. We were contacted the day after posting this review by Jennifer G with Conch tours. She was very apologetic for the actions causing our less than good experience and assured us that they had investigated, found the driver in question, and were taking measures to guarantee his future attitude would change. She was very concerned and said this is not the image or actions that Conch will tolerate. We feel better going forward and will try their service again in the future.

Hello Mike, Thank you for letting us know about our drivers behavior. I am forwarding your comments to the General Manager of the Operation for his investigation. Would you please contact me directly at guestrelations@ historictours.com or my phone number is 904-547-3074.

What a great touristy thing to do while on vacation here. We learned a lot on our tour thanks to the awesome tour guide. It's also a nice way to sit down and cool down for a while during the summer months - they also sell discounted tickets to other attractions at a discount

We had a short stop in Key West while on a cruise and decided to ride the Conch Train so we could cover more of the island and maximize our time there. Amy was our guide/driver and she was fantastic! She is not only very knowledgeable but a fun and friendly person as well. We did one full loop tour with her and then hopped on and off at a couple stops with other drivers. We were so glad we did an initial tour with Amy because the other couple of drivers we rode with didn't have the happy attitude or informative tour info that she did. Not terrible, but certainly not as fun. I highly recommend this tour if you only have a few hours to spend in Key West. You'll definitely get to see the main highlights!

The Conch Tour Train took its inaugural ride in 1958 and has been offering tours throughout Key West ever since.

Throughout the tour, you’ll not only see the area’s well-known sights, you’ll also learn about the many residents, both past and present, that make the Conch Republic one of the world’s most unique places. See some of the spots Hemingway frequented and find out why Harry Truman spent so much time on the island. Listen to accounts of how pirates, indians and wreckers lived, fought and worked, giving Key West its extraordinary reputation.

The historic Conch Tour Train tour is 75 minutes long making one full loop through Old Town Key West, includes three stops, and highlights marvelous sights, stories and entertainment.

First tour starts at 9:00 am.

Last tour departs from Front Street at 4:30 pm.

Compliance status

Screen-reader and keyboard navigation.

  • Screen-reader optimization: we run a background process that learns the website’s components from top to bottom, to ensure ongoing compliance even when updating the website. In this process, we provide screen-readers with meaningful data using the ARIA set of attributes. For example, we provide accurate form labels; descriptions for actionable icons (social media icons, search icons, cart icons, etc.); validation guidance for form inputs; element roles such as buttons, menus, modal dialogues (popups), and others. Additionally, the background process scans all of the website’s images and provides an accurate and meaningful image-object-recognition-based description as an ALT (alternate text) tag for images that are not described.
