ABOUT DANIEL CAESAR
Multi-platinum GRAMMY Award-winning singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer Daniel Caesar is on a journey of self-actualization. He’s built his name across the gamut of contemporary R&B—contemplative soul and evocative rock to intergalactic alternative and understated pop—with artistry at his core. One of the most critically and commercially successful artists today—he’s one of the Top 10 most-streamed Canadian artists of all time on Spotify with over 20 million monthly listeners on the platform and 1.6 million subscribers on YouTube—he’s ready to elevate his artistry in 2023 and beyond. His 2017 debut, Freudian , was released independently and was a R&B breakthrough, bolstered by the 5x-platinum “Best Part” [feat. H.E.R.] and 3x-platinum “Get You” [feat. Kali Uchis]. Daniel received a GRAMMY® Award for “Best R&B Performance ” for the former, and the b-side “Blessed” was featured on President Barack Obama’s annual favorites playlist. 2019’s follow up, CASE STUDY 01 [featuring John Mayer, Brandy, and Pharrell Williams], debuted at number 17 on the Billboard Top 200. His first number one hit on the Billboard Hot 100 came two years later with Justin Bieber’s megahit “Peaches” [featuring Giveon], amassing billions of streams. 2022’s “Please Do Not Lean” has garnered nearly 70 million global streams to date and received critical acclaim from across the globe, including a “Traditional R&B/Soul Recording of the Year” Juno Awards nomination. In 2023, he returned with a slew of singles, “Do You Like Me?,” “Let Me Go,” and “Valentina,” which set the tone for his new album NEVER ENOUGH , out now.

Daniel Caesar never disappoints lyrically, musically everythingly lol. I saw him perform at The Fox Theatre in Atlanta and I was blown away. Koffee's performance surprised me as his opening act only because I had no idea she was touring with him. She's amazing and I'm so happy he chose to tour with her all while she is blowing up Jamaica with her authentic, organic onstage presence. Now back to Daniel. Omg he is so spontaneous and he doesn't follow the norm. As he graced the stage with his performance, he opened with two of my favorite songs...I was like omg i thought i'd have to wait until the end of the show. I was sipping on a rum and coke and it made the performance magically pierced my inner soul. He is in total real form and has the most beautiful voice when he sings live. Yes, he can actually sing. Halfway thru the show he sits in a stool and played the guitar - omg I fell in love all over again. If i had the time and money I would travel to every venue so I could recreate the moments I experienced at his concert. He is so talented and gifted. I wish him all the success in the world!

I saw Daniel Caesar live on January 31st, 2018 in Paris, in a nightclub called Yoyo and it was incredible! The setlist included "We'll always have Paris", Daniel dedicated it to the crowd and to his "Praise Break" (eg his first project) fans which was so thoughtful. His band was out of this world, they were all extremely talented and an incredible mash-up of Get You and Best Part appeared at the end of the concert and really was the epitome of it. His voice sounded just like on the album, it was just pure raw talent. I highly recommend seeing him if he comes to your town!
An absolutely breathtaking talent.
The concert started with a little delay of around 10 minutes, which isn’t that bad. He performed new and old songs and plus since it was his last concert in the European leg of the tour, he sang more than in other cities. Amazing vocals and his back singers are wonderful as well! The audience in Madrid was very active, singing along all the song (except for one new that he performed and btw it’s beautiful).
I would definitely recommend going to see him if you like this type of music.
I loved every moment of that night. Absolutely one of my favorite concerts ever. The lighting and visuals were stunning and set the vibe for the entire show perfectly. Definitely an even bigger fan of Daniel after this concert. Much respect for him; he sounds exactly like the recording, if not better. I enjoyed how the venue was outdoors as well. It was a fun, open, an cozy environment for a concert that matched its energy. My only complaint is that the whole experience felt way too short. 11/10 would go to another show of his.
Daniel Caesar is without a doubt an underrated artist. His voice and his lyrics are out of this world and it was amazing to see that the french crowd recognized it. The concert started with some of the best tracks of his latest album. However, Daniel did not miss melodies from previous phases and delighted the crowd with his most successful singles, Get you and Best part. Back up vocals and his band also performed amazingly. Thankfully he came back for an encore. Still the crowd wanted more, but overall it was a great show.
Multiple problems. The tickets said 6.30 for everyone, but then we were forced to wait an hour outside. When we got in, the worst dj in the world played. Then, when Daniel Caeser finally got on, the sound system was so bad you couldnt hear him and the singing was mediocre. Looking back at videos the singing sounds better than it was. The dj played more than Daniel and I just wanted the night to end. Guess I got what I paid for, £12.
Daniel sounds exactly the same live, tickets were an extremely good price. He sang every song off his album, which I was very happy about. I just wish he had backing singers to emphasise his songs that had gospel vocals in the background. I also would have preferred an opening artist that sings rather than a DJ to set the vibe of the concert.
I would see again!
He had a pop-up show he announced 2 hours before it started and I swear I've never rushed so fast to get somewhere. His voice is angelic, knows how to intrigue a crowd and overall it was amazing. Even people just walking by had to stop and listen till he was done. Wonderful experience can't wait to see him again this December.
the support act had the same vibe to daniel's music so was a fitting artist. the music sounded incredible live, and the musicians with the background singers made everything come together. even though i sat far back, i could see everything on stage clearly. one of the best nights .
Incredible.
Daniel's voice, his personality, the lyrics... he's truly a full package. One of the most genuine artists I've seen in a while.
He (and his band!!!!!) absolutely killed it. Looking forward to seeing them again when I'm back in the states for a full concert.

Since scoring a pair of left-field slow jam hits in duets with H.E.R. (“Best Part”) and Kali Uchis (“Get You”) six years ago, Daniel Caesar has sidestepped the quest for the male R&B throne and has instead opted to focus on further developing his dedicated community of fans — one that has grown to the size of a sold-out Madison Square Garden on Tuesday night (Oct. 17).
The Grammy winner has come a long way since those controversial comments on race relations and the subsequent backlash, but a sobering, apologetic self-reflection and a string of major career moves kept the Caesar train chugging. In the time since “Best Part” emerged as Freudian’s breakout hit, Caesar found Billboard Hot 100 success as a songwriter for fellow Canadians Justin Bieber (“Peaches,” No. 1 — also with Caesar as a featured artist) and Shawn Mendes (“Monster,” No. 8), launched another acclaimed Grammy-nominated studio effort in Case Study 01 , and released collaborations with Common, Brandy, FKA twigs and Omar Apollo.
On Tuesday night, the acclaimed singer-songwriter took over one of the world’s most iconic venues to perform the biggest show of his career thus far. His Superpowers World Tour — a global trek in support of his major label debut album, Never Enough , a stunningly introspective slice of R&B that peaked at No. 8 on the Billboard 200 — is a terrific showcase of musical dexterity.
On the latest stop of his Superpowers Tour, Caesar tore through his lush discography, showcasing impressive vocal endurance and an intriguing yet entrancing approach to staging. Before he hit the stage, however, Grammy-nominated pop&B lothario Omar Apollo sparkled with an energetic set that dripped with sensuality and playfulness. Evoking Michael Jackson one second and Mick Jagger the next, Apollo swaggered through renditions of hits like “Evergreen,” “Tamagotchi” and “3 Boys.” Between a heartfelt tribute to Mexico (“En El Olvido”) and a hilarious streak of frankness — after he flubbed a riff, he quipped, “Oop, my fault!” before seamlessly executing an even harder falsetto riff — Apollo seemed incredibly comfortable in front of the packed arena.
Caesar began his set enclosed in translucent drapery, with a guest appearance from Mustafa the Poet — the pair performed their “Toronto 2014” collaboration — adding to the enigmatic tone of the night. Once he hit “Cyanide,” the drapes fell, revealing a close-up of a humbled Caesar, ready and excited to delight the crowd with a slew of songs off Never Enough , as well as some fan-favorites (“Entropy”) and a cover of Radiohead’s “Creep.” Not one for much banter, Caesar instead channeled his appreciation into a series of moving vocal performances that cast his greatest love songs in the context of the love story between him and his fans.
Here are the five best moments of Daniel Caesar’s Superpowers World Tour at Madison Square Garden:
Caesar in the Shadows
From a cube comprised of flowing, white semi-transparent sheets to a stunning light show for the climax of “Please Do Not Lean,” this show’s production was an absolute highlight. By playing with shadows, the production design explored the push and pull of mystique and celebrity as it relates to Caesar’s public persona. All of this paired with his haunting-yet-alluring vocal tone made for an immersive experience.
"Shot My Baby" Gets Theatrical
Daniel Caesar may not be the first artist to come to mind when presented with the word “theatrical,” but he certainly flaunted those dramatic abilities on Tuesday night. Caesar spent much of his rendition of “Shot My Baby” sprawled out on the floor as if he himself were shot. When his guitarist started shredding near the end of the song, it was as if Caesar’s still body was soaking up all the energy from every seat in the sold-out arena.
Encore (feat. Omar Apollo)
For the encore, Caesar brought the packed arena into a cozy backstage lounge. There, he sat with Omar Apollo as the two listened to the roars of the crowd. At one point, the pair looked liked they would close the night with a duet, but after Apollo briefly mumbled something about not rehearsing, Caesar good-naturedly launched into a solo, acoustic performance of “Streetcar” — a smart and nostalgic choice for an encore that drew one of the night’s most fervent crowd responses.
A "Creep" Enraptures The Garden
Stripping the stage to just him and his acoustic guitar, Caesar tackled Radiohead’s “Creep” with what was probably the night’s peak in terms of vulnerability. The unplugged vibe presented an immediate juxtaposition to the mysterious production design utilized at the top of the show, thus fostering a sense of intimacy that conveyed the gratefulness and awe his spirit radiated throughout the night.
H.E.R. Makes Surprise Appearance
Needing no introduction, Grammy and Oscar winner H.E.R. floated onto the stage to assist Caesar in an exquisite rendition of their hit collab “Best Part.” Considering that this was Caesar’s first performance at the Garden, it was only right that he bring out the duet partner that helped craft the song that made his career explode. With Caesar on acoustic guitar and just the two of them on stage, the two R&B crooners riffed their way through the song, perfectly embodying the depth and warmth that made the studio track such an enduring hit.

11 can’t-miss concerts in the D.C. area in May
A wave of hardcore punk bands aim to unite audiences with the cleansing power of the pit
There are mass graves in Gaza and protesters being arrested at campuses across the United States. The Supreme Court might criminalize homelessness, and states are rushing to institute abortion bans. And even though the last president is on trial, he has even-money odds of winning in November.
For those looking for clarity or catharsis in this fraught moment, there are still concerts, and for hard and heavy times, there is music to match. This month, a wave of bands that draw from hardcore punk traditions will wash over the D.C. area, uniting audiences with the cleansing power of the pit.
English hooligans the Chisel pay tribute to their country’s street punk and pub rock traditions by making a straight-ahead attack on politicians, hypocrites, propagandists and bloodsuckers. The title of their latest album, “What a F---ing Nightmare,” captures the daily feeling of living through the doom scroll, but the band, and its like-minded tour mate Conservative Military Image , is about perseverance over exploitation: “I just feel like living for myself,” goes one of its full-throated pint-smashers. “Life’s worth more than serving someone else.” (May 7 at 8 p.m. at Union Stage. unionstage.com . $20-$40.)
The members of Hot Water Music seem as surprised as anyone that they’re celebrating their 30th anniversary on the road as they prepare to release their 10th album, “Vows.” The Gainesville, Fla.-founded act, fronted by singer-songwriter-guitarists Chuck Ragan and Chris Wollard, can still whip up punk tunes with heart-on-sleeve emotion and anthemic hooks. The band promises to “dust off some oldies” on tour; perhaps it will play 1997 favorite “Turnstile” — the namesake of the current generation’s biggest hardcore band.
Joining Hot Water Music is Quicksand , a New York band whose renewed existence — albeit after a long hiatus — is even more surprising. Quicksand’s metallic approach to post-hardcore laid the blueprint for countless punk and alt-metal bands alike. Fronted by punk icon Walter Schreifels, the band found success in the mid-1990s before imploding and returned with new albums in 2017 and 2021. (May 13 at 8 p.m. at the Howard Theatre. thehowardtheatre.com . $35-$60.)
Quicksand’s contemporaries in Helmet left an equally sizable imprint on hard rock music with their metallic, detuned riffs; lockstep rhythms; and shouted lyricism. The band’s most memorable song, “Unsung,” fused a stop-start riff and Ozzy-ish vocals and received the highest honor of 1990s MTV culture by being featured on “Beavis and Butt-Head.” Cro-Mags never notched that honor, but their fusion of metal riffs with the velocity and ferocity of hardcore forged a path for plenty of bands that did. Despite numerous lineup changes and legal challenges, the band resumed thrashing with a new album in 2020. (May 14, doors open at 6:30 p.m. at the Atlantis. theatlantis.com . Sold out.)
D.C. hardcore, or “harDCore,” never dies, especially as a wave of originators have gotten into the reunion and anniversary spirit. After celebrating a record release last year, the Goons are back at the Black Cat with, as a flier promises, “intoxicating battery acid for the soul.” The group will be joined by HR Band , the group fronted by the legendary Paul “H.R.” Hudson; Supreme Commander; and RDX. (May 17, doors open at 8 p.m. at the Black Cat. blackcatdc.com . $20.)
Punk is thriving a few hours north on Interstate 95, as proved by two Philly bands born of hardcore but not limited to conventional wisdom about its constraints. Mannequin Pussy was founded over a decade ago armed with a lo-fi punk approach and the frank raunch suggested by its name. The four-piece has always had an expansive taste for everything from quiet, shoegazey moments to girl-group melodies, and sharper songwriting has only sanded down its rough edges into blunt instruments. Tour mate Soul Glo is one of the most exciting acts in punk, and its breakthrough album “Diaspora Problems” smashes hardcore together with club beats and rap as vocalist Pierce Jordan asks, “What can activate the rage that we be harboring?” (May 17 and 18, doors open at 6:30 p.m. at the Atlantis. theatlantis.com . Sold out.)
Rage will be activated when, as a flier boasts, “Cleveland punks storm the capital.” Yambag delivers relentless hardcore, sung in both English and Spanish, while the Hell is slightly more melodic but no less ferocious. (May 26 at 7:30 p.m. at Haydee’s Restaurant. $12.)
Meanwhile, Houston noise punks Sexpill are the sonic equivalent of the mushroom cloud that graces the cover of their latest album, “In Dust We Trust.” Emphasis on the “mushroom”: These titans of tinnitus make music for bad trips in the desert. (May 22 at 8:30 p.m. at Quarry House Tavern. quarryhousetavern.com . $15.)
The calendar saves the hardest bill for last. Breakdown beasts Knocked Loose continue to dig to new depths with razor’s-edge riffs, a locked-in rhythm section and the bloodcurdling screams of Bryan Garris. The first glimpses of its forthcoming album “You Won’t Go Before You’re Supposed To” suggest the band is heavier than ever but also embracing new sounds: “Suffocate” features pop experimentation and a reggaeton breakdown.
Joining the metalcore act is Show Me the Body , a band of seekers in the search for hardcore’s experimental edge. Over the years, the New York City group has exorcised internal turmoil with all the tools at its disposal, pushing into noise, electronic music and hip-hop and even relying on vocalist Julian Cashwan Pratt’s banjo. For all the fury in its music, the clarity of the quiet moments shines through. “Youth outside, they getting it/ Got s--- to give so they out there spreading it,” Pratt half-raps on the somber “WW4.” “Hard to stay alive in America.” (May 29 at 7 p.m. at the Fillmore Silver Spring. fillmoresilverspring.com . Sold out.)
Three other shows to catch:
My Body My Festival
A benefit for the DC Abortion Fund, My Body My Festival lands at a handful of venues for what it bills as “part music festival, part D.C. love fest.” Rockers Pretty Bitter bring their impeccable pop hooks to a bill at Pie Shop, D.C. iconoclast Sneaks headlines a diverse bill at Songbyrd, and a daytime party at Metrobar promises the smoother sounds of jazz and neo-soul. ( May 16-18 at various venues. mybodymyfestival.com . $35-$500.)
Julia Holter
With her sixth album, “Something in the Room She Moves,” Julia Holter navigates an experience common for those approaching middle age: the birth of a child amid the loss of loved ones. While she drew inspiration from a wide range of sources — Lebanese singer Fairuz, feminist theorist Hélène Cixous and Studio Ghibli’s “Ponyo,” to name a few — the Los Angeles art-pop artist also looked inward: “I was trying to create a world that’s fluid-sounding, waterlike, evoking the body’s internal sound world.” (May 19, doors open at 6:30 p.m. at the Atlantis. theatlantis.com . $22.)
Charlotte Day Wilson
Rich-voiced soul singer Charlotte Day Wilson recalls past eras of R&B marked by torch songs; 1990s hitmaker Babyface even has a credit on her 2021 album “Alpha.” But the Canadian talent isn’t a retro act: Her songs are full of the grooves popularized by a new generation of quiet storm artists, like collaborators Daniel Caesar and Snoh Aalegra. (May 30 at 8 p.m. at Union Stage. unionstage.com . $28-$129.)

Subscriber only, entertainment | richard johnson: britney spears’ spending out of control post-conservatorship.
The court finally freed Britney to spend her dough, and she’s reportedly been squandering her savings on private jets and tropical vacations.
“People who know her father Jamie feel that he will be vindicated in the end,” one source said.
“Unless she cuts down on her spending, she’ll either have to go on tour or do another residency in Las Vegas,” said my source.
The pop star, who recently finalized her divorce from her third husband, Sam Asghari , was staying at the Chateau Marmont this week — where even the cheapest rooms are more than $600 per night — though TMZ reports the stay was cut short.
Spears left the hotel late Wednesday night, the outlet says, after some guests alleged she had an altercation with new boyfriend, Paul Richard Soliz. Paramedics were called, but the “Toxic” singer left with her own security team according to TMZ. She later said on social media that she twisted her ankle and implied the incident was all much ado about nothing.
Candace Bushnell shocked fans at the opening of her show at the Carlyle Hotel when she confessed to a threesome with a woman and her boyfriend, late photojournalist Gordon Parks, when she was19 years old.
“Gordon asked me if I’d have a threesome with a friend and I said, ‘why not?’ The next morning, I noticed that the hundred-dollar bill that was in a crystal ashtray was gone. I said, ‘Gordon, why is that hundred-dollar bill gone? and he said, ‘Well, that woman was a prostitute.’”
That was the beginning of the end, said the “ Sex and the City ” creator.
At the finale, Bushnell brought her two standard poodles, Pepper and Prancer, on stage and said they were all living in a suite with room service at the Carlyle for the run of her show.
Mark Green is worried.
The former New York City Public Advocate, who once ran for mayor and lost to Mike Bloomberg by two points , warns that Donald Trump’s re-election will lead to fascism.
Green held a book party at his downtown loft for his latest, “ The Inflection Election: Democracy or Fascism in 2024? ” and told his guests: “Trump is an aspiring American fascist.”
At the launch held on Tuesday, Green asked, “Who here knows what April 30th is?” No one knew.
“On this day, 79 years ago, Hitler died . I was born in March. He died the next month.”
Green didn’t equate Trump with Hitler, but noted their similarities.
While he was “unhappy” when Richard M. Nixon was elected president in 1968, “this is totally different. This isn’t politics-business as usual,” Green said.

Adam Driver Balances on a Ledge in Anxiety-Inducing ‘Megalopolis’ First Look Clip
- By Althea Legaspi

Adam Driver precipitously balances himself on a ledge of a building in a first look clip from Francis Ford Coppola ’s Megalopolis . The director shared the anxiety-inducing clip from his long-brewing project on May 4, the date of his late wife Eleanor’s birthday.
“ Megalopolis has always been a film dedicated to my dear wife Eleanor. I really had hoped to celebrate her birthday together this May 4th,” Coppola captioned the clip in an Instagram post on Saturday. “But sadly that was not to be, so let me share with everyone a gift on her behalf.”
In the film, Driver portrays a man named Caesar who lives in a world that mirrors his precarious viewpoint on the edge of the building. It’s a civilization “devouring itself in a whirl of unchecked greed, self-absorption, and political propaganda, while a few bold dreamers push against the tide, striving to usher in a new dawn,” as a statement from Coppola on the film details. Caesar is one of those dreamers.
In the clip, sirens are heard in the background as Caesar peers out a window in a building high above a city street below. He tentatively steps out on to the ledge before making his way to its edge. As he peers over, he extends a foot off as if to jump, but he soon finds he has power to control his current precarious circumstance with a shouted command and a snap of his fingers.
Coppola said working on the sci-fi epic has made him feel “born-again” at age 85 via the “provocative ideas and relentless ideas and relentless cinematic invention,” among other experiences he had from making the film.

Coppola invested $120 million of his own money to fund the passion project, which premieres in competition at the Cannes Film festival later this month, as Variety reports . He first began working on the project in the early 1980s.
In addition to Driver, the film stars Giancarlo Esposito, Nathalie Emmanuel, Aubrey Plaza, Shia LaBeouf, Jon Voight, Laurence Fishburne, Talia Shire, Jason Schwartzman, Kathryn Hunter, Grace VanderWaal, Chloe Fineman, James Remar, D.B. Sweeney, and Dustin Hoffman.
