Queen’s Brian May and Roger Taylor, plus singer Adam Lambert, spoke today of the “heartbreak” at having to once again postpone the highly anticipated UK and European dates of their Rhapsody World Tour.

Following a sensational run across Asia and Oceania last winter, Queen + Adam Lambert were originally set to rock the UK and Europe in summer 2020. During the band’s spring break, however, the coronavirus outbreak left them no choice but to prioritise the safety of fans, crew and venue staff by postponing the dates until 2021.

Now, with the COVID-19 pandemic still far from resolved, the band are forced for a second time to reschedule the tour dates, moving them to 2022. “Under continuing Europe-wide Covid restrictions there’s no possible way the tour can go ahead as planned for this year,” Queen + Adam Lambert said today. “The prospect of again not being able to look forward to performing and getting to experience those wonderful audiences is just heartbreaking.”

To ease their loyal fans’ disappointment, Brian, Roger and Adam have announced a new and expanded set of 2022 dates for the UK and Europe Rhapsody shows, when they hope it will finally be safe to perform for large audiences.

Promoters for the Rhapsody Tour confirmed today that all previously purchased tickets continue to be valid for the corresponding rescheduled shows. Ticket holders will be contacted by their point of purchase for information on ticket exchanges for the new dates. New dates can be found at QueenOnline.com. “We wish to make it clear. None of the shows from 2020 and 2021 have been cancelled, just re-arranged due to COVID-19. We really do hope that as many people as possible who were booked for those original dates in 2020 will still be able to join us for the shows.”

On getting back to performing live again Roger Taylor says: "When we do eventually get to play in front of live audiences it will be with a ferociously renewed attack and we shall revel in the wonderful experience of actually interacting with them again."

Frontman Adam Lambert said: “It’s so disappointing to have to postpone again, but safety comes first, and we look forward to spring 2022 when we will be back, better than ever.”

The postponement of this year’s tour dates is especially disappointing for the band, who were looking forward to playing the shows as part of a significant landmark for Queen. With 50 years now having passed since the 1971 recruiting of John Deacon, completing Queen’s classic line-up, 2021 marks a Queen Golden Jubilee that the band was hoping to celebrate with fans.

Nevertheless, The Show Must Go On – and it will in 2022 when Queen + Adam Lambert return to touring and embark on their next chapter together.

Queen + Adam Lambert’s 150-minute career-spanning set list celebrates the band’s extraordinary back catalogue, lining up wall-to-wall immortal anthems like “We Will Rock You”, “Don’t Stop Me Now”, “Radio Ga Ga”, and “Somebody To Love” alongside classic deep cuts and vintage fan favourites. Featuring a dazzling state-of-the-art stage design, incredible special effects and set pieces, this sense-swamping extravaganza has been blowing critics and fans away the world over.

As with last year’s UK and European dates, the 2023 North American tour will see Queen + Adam Lambert supported on stage by their regular band members, long-serving Queen keyboard player and musical director Spike Edney, bass guitarist Neil Fairclough and percussionist Tyler Warren.

Having extensively toured over the last few years, the Rhapsody show is forever evolving. But it remains at heart a tribute to Freddie Mercury’s majestic legacy, a confirmation of Brian and Roger’s undimmed musical prowess, plus a magnificent showcase for Adam’s vocal skills and electrifying stage charisma, all of which adds up to a glorious full-blooded celebration of one of the greatest songbooks in rock history. TICKETS: Tickets will be available via a general onsale beginning Friday, March 31st at 10AM local time at LiveNation.com .

MORE ON TICKETS:

Queen + Adam Lambert appreciate that it is an enormous task to try and stop scalpers from taking advantage of fans wanting to purchase tickets for the tour. In an effort to help minimize resale and keep ticket prices at face value for fans, the band are collaborating with the venues’ ticketing partners to restrict the ability to transfer tickets for The Rhapsody Tour so that they may only be transferred between fans at the original price.

Fans will still have protection against unforeseen circumstances. Those who purchase tickets and are no longer able to attend their show will be able to sell their tickets at the price they paid using a face value ticket exchange, including the Ticketmaster Face Value Exchange – which is free to use for buyers and sellers. More information on how the Ticketmaster Exchange works is available here .

Unfortunately, the states of NY, IL, and CO have laws in place which protect ticket scalpers – these laws prohibit artists from being able to restrict the transfer of their tickets to face value exchanges only. For shows in these states, Queen + Adam Lambert strongly encourage fans to only buy or sell tickets to one another on face value exchanges. More information can be found here , with more details to follow in the coming weeks.

Queen-Reschedule-European-Rhapsody-Tour-2021

Queen + Adam Lambert regretfully announced today that their upcoming 27-date UK & European ‘Rhapsody’ tour is being postponed due to the on-going global coronavirus outbreak, though they have successfully rescheduled the dates for 2021.

The 2020 tour was due to start in Italy on 24 May, with the itinerary also including a massive run of 10 London O2 concerts as well as a pair of shows each in Manchester and Birmingham , before further mainland Europe dates were set to conclude with two Madrid shows on 7 and 8 July.

The decision has been made with the safety of our audiences, band, crew and venue staff in mind and with close on 400,000 tickets sold across the tour, was not a decision taken lightly.

The good news for fans is that the band has worked swiftly to reschedule the European ‘Rhapsody’ tour dates and are now able to confirm that the shows are now set for matching or similar dates in 2021. All tickets will be valid for the rescheduled show dates. Ticket holders are advised to contact their point of purchase for information on ticket exchanges for the 2021 dates.

The postponement comes as a major disappointment for the band having only recently enjoyed performing one of their biggest ever tours with their massively successful six-week stadium tour of South Korea, Japan, New Zealand and Australia, playing to audiences reaching up to 60,000 a night. The trek also included a special appearance at the Sydney Fire Fight Australia benefit concert for bushfire relief, for which the band reprised their iconic 22-minute Live Aid set, helping raise $9.5 million to help those affected by Australia’s massive bushfires .

Addressing fans, Brian May said: “We’re very sad to announce the postponement of our summer shows in Europe, although in the present crazy state of the world, it cannot be a surprise to our fans. Those incredible scenes at our concerts just over a month ago now seem like an impossibly distant dream. We were so lucky to be able to complete that tour, running just ahead of the wave that was about to break on us. I know many of our fans are having similar moments of disbelief and bewilderment out there. Of course we would have gone ahead with the dates had it been humanly possible.

“The good news is that we do now have a PLAN B ready to roll. If you hold on to your tickets they will be valid for the rescheduled shows. God willing, we will be there with bells on!”

Drummer Roger Taylor responded to the postponement saying: “We’re all in this together. Devastating! Boringly frustrating! Scary and upsetting! But…pick ourselves up, dust ourselves down…start all over again!!! Be well….take care…coming right back at you as soon as we possibly can!!! Much love…Roger T xxx.”

Singer Adam Lambert added: “I am very disappointed that we won’t be touring Europe as planned, but we have to look after each other and put everyone’s health first. Look forward to getting out there when it’s safe.”

At the same time as making this announcement, the band also highlighted its recently launched their #DontStopUsNow initiative which is aimed at encouraging fan interaction , saying:

“Finally, a thank you from us! Our hearts have been warmed by the growing influx of Queen-inspired videos from fans and supporters from all over the world in recent days. Keep them coming and we will highlight as many as we can across our social channels! #DontStopUsNow.

“We would like to bring the Queen family around the world even CLOSER together”.

Queen in talks about final tour with Adam Lambert in 2023

But new music seems unlikely...

Queen guitarist Brian May says that the band are currently talking about heading out on tour with singer Adam Lambert next year – possibly for the last time.

Speaking to Variety , May was asked if they would tour in 2023.

He replied: “There’s a strong possibility that we’ll be going out together again. We’re talking about that as you and I speak, making those decisions.

“Now, it does get to be more of a decision as you get older. I’m not 35 anymore, and leaving home for two months is not easy.

“But we feel as like if we’re all fit and well, that we’d like to go out there one more time. It would probably be in the United States in 2023 at some point. I’m hoping that happens, but it’s a strong possibility.”

Talking about the possibility of making new music with Lambert and Queen drummer Roger Taylor , he said that when the three of them get together, the live show is “all-consuming”.

“We feel as if the live stuff is what the public wants,” he explained.

“And when we’re not on tour, Adam has his own career — he just gave me some stuff that he’s working on for his next album, and it’s remarkable.

“So, I suppose that the opportunity to make an album together doesn’t come up, but I’m not saying that it couldn’t happen.”

In the wide-ranging interview, May also paid tribute to late Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins.

May performed ‘Love Of My Life’ at the Taylor Hawkins Tribute Concert at Wembley Stadium in September.

He told Variety: “They The Foo Fighters feel like family to Roger and I, and Taylor Hawkins was the link – the boy who would always ring me up at 3 a.m. in the morning.

“I miss that call. Always full of enthusiasm. “Hey Brian, you should come over and jam.” Of all people to be taken too young, he is the most sadly missed.”

WTA Tour to visit Queen's Club for first time in 2025 as part of grass-court tennis season calendar shuffle

Queen's Club will see women's tennis being played at the venue from 2025 as part of a change to the grass-court season calendar; watch the conclusion of the Internazionali BNL d'Italia live on Sky Sports Tennis, with the women's final on Saturday and the men's on Sunday

The Lawn Tennis Association has confirmed that Queen's Club will stage a WTA Tour event next summer in a reshuffle of the grass-court season.

The governing body has cited a desire to raise the profile of women's tennis and promote it to more people for the changes, which will see the Birmingham and Eastbourne tournaments reduced in status.

The new women's event, which will take place in the week following the French Open, means a tour level women's tournament is coming to London for the first time since 1973, when Olga Morozova was crowned the last female champion.

It means the Edgbaston Priory club in Birmingham, which has staged a WTA Tour event since 1982, will now host a combined men's and women's second-tier tournament in the second week of the French Open.

The joint men's and women's event in Nottingham will move to the same week as the men's tournament at Queen's, with the combined event in Eastbourne the week prior to Wimbledon now at the lowest 250 level for both tours.

Last month, the LTA revealed that a sticking point was concerns from the ATP over the impact on its event, second only in status to Wimbledon during the British grass swing, of a women's tournament the previous week.

Chris Pollard, the LTA's director of major events and digital, admitted the arrangement could end up only being for a year if the male players are unhappy.

What next for Raducanu?

"We have absolute confidence that we can stage a two-week event at the Queen's Club," he said.

"Obviously the Championships at Wimbledon prove that grass can withstand two weeks of tennis. We've got independent data that really provides a lot of evidence that the men's week will not suffer in any way, shape or form.

"We've had many discussions with both tours in respect of that. (The ATP) have given the green light for the tournament to take place in 2025 and we continue to have an ongoing dialogue with them in respect of the success of the 2025 tournament.

"They would like to consider what happens after 2025 but we remain in very close dialogue with them on that point and remain very confident that it will be a permanent change."

Disparities in prize money levels between the tours mean the men will earn more money at their tournament, while Pollard stressed the LTA is committed to both events being on free-to-air TV.

Meanwhile, the second-tier event at Surbiton that has kicked off the grass-court season will be scrapped from next year but Ilkley will continue to host a men's and women's tournament.

Broady: Having women's tournament is not to detriment of men's event

Queen's Club

"The guys have done their research over at the LTA and they've said the courts can handle two weeks of play," said Liam Broady on Sky Sports Tennis .

"I know that the first few days at Queen's is renowned for having very slippery courts, a very slick old-style grass court.

"I know at Wimbledon now they do allow play on the match courts in the build up to the event just to take away that extra slickness of the grass. They do play better once they've been played on a little bit.

"I don't think it's to the detriment of the men's event. I'm a little bit upset for Surbiton, but I'm sure there's good reasons for it and we'll see how it goes."

Loreen will be performing her new single, ‘Forever’, in the final of the Eurovision Song Contest this Saturday (May 11). The track will be released the day before.

She will also be headlining Manchester Pride 2024 in August.

Loreen took the Eurovision crown home at last year’s Song Contest , representing Sweden with her song ‘Tattoo’. It marked her second victory after having won for the first time back in 2012.

Last summer, following her Eurovision victory,  Loreen sat down with  NME   to discuss her plans for new music and the feeling of taking home the song contest trophy for the second time.

She also opened up about how she would categorise her style of music, and said that she agrees with a fan’s comment that it is “spiritual pop”.

“It’s exactly what it is. Of course, I do spiritual pop. The dynamics in my songs – if you look at ‘Euphoria’ and ‘Tattoo’ – there is a spiritual thing going on there. You start with this small whispery thing, then you start building energy and being stronger and stronger, until you come to the chorus where it’s full-on power,” she explained.

“This is spiritual in a way because it’s almost like watching a movie and getting to the place where you start crying and feel a release. And that release is so important. We get it from clubbing, dancing, music – and we need it, because otherwise [there’s] a lot of stagnation in the body. So there’s a purpose to why I use certain dynamics, because you can’t really just scream at somebody [from the start]. You have to really build up – almost like trust, in a way, until you come to the point of release. And [in that moment] it could be that you cry or feel happy or whatever. But it is a spiritual build-up.”

Emmanuel Macron and Xi Jinping walk in the middle of a large courtyard as they review an assembly of guards during an official welcome ceremony

Xi’s European tour: where is Chinese leader going and what are visit’s aims?

Emmanuel Macron and Viktor Orbán among leaders Xi is meeting, with several key issues on the table

China’s president, Xi Jinping , has begun a three-country tour of Europe – his first state visit to the continent in five years – at a time when China-EU ties are under strain from trade disputes and Russia’s war on Ukraine.

Where is Xi visiting and who will he meet?

The Chinese leader’s visit begins on Monday in Paris, where he is meeting the French president, Emmanuel Macron, for a day of talks that will include a trilateral meeting with the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen , and a state banquet at the Élysée Palace in the evening.

On Tuesday, Macron will accompany Xi to the Tourmalet pass 2,000 metres up in the Hautes-Pyrénées mountains, an area where the French president spent childhood holidays visiting his grandmother, for a day of less formal discussions. The two last met in April 2023 during a three-day state visit to China by Macron .

On Wednesday, Xi will travel to Belgrade for talks with Serbia’s president, Aleksandar Vučić, and on Thursday he will go to Budapest where he will meet Hungary’s prime minister, Viktor Orbán . Both countries are pro-Russia and big recipients of Chinese investment.

What is the purpose of his visit?

Officially, Xi’s visit to Paris is to mark 60 years since diplomatic relations were established between France and China: France was the first western country to formally recognise the People’s Republic of China, on 27 January 1964.

His visit to Belgrade coincides with the 25th anniversary of the bombing of the Chinese embassy in Serbia , when three people died after a US strike accidentally hit the compound during Nato’s air campaign against Serb forces occupying Kosovo.

Analysts have said that in his meetings with Macron and von der Leyen, away from the ceremonies, Xi will mainly be aiming to lobby against the EU’s anti-subsidy investigations, particularly on electric vehicles, and on stabilising diplomatic relationships.

In Serbia , where China is the biggest single source of inward investment, he will hope to play up Beijing’s anti-US, anti-Nato agenda – one reason why China has maintained its support for Russia since its invasion of Ukraine.

In Hungary, Xi will underline the close economic and diplomatic ties between the two countries, including in security cooperation, and discuss progress on China’s belt and road initiative , which includes a high-speed Budapest-Belgrade rail link.

Hungary, a vocal supporter of China that has blocked some EU motions criticising Beijing on human rights, has Huawei’s largest base outside China and will soon host the carmaker BYD’s first European factory.

What big issues will be on the table?

Overshadowing the visit are EU concerns over China’s support for Russia two years into war against Ukraine, and Beijing’s concerns over the bloc’s economic security agenda, including the threat of heavy tariffs on Chinese imports.

Macron and von der Leyen will call on China to stop exports to Russia of “dual-use” and other technologies aiding Moscow war effort. Beijing claims to be neutral in the conflict but China-Russia trade has helped offset western sanctions on Moscow.

after newsletter promotion

Beijing, for its part, aims to head off the threat of European tariffs on Chinese EVs after an EU investigation into state support for the industry in China. Studies put China’s subsidies at between three and nine times those of other major economies.

Human rights groups have said the issues of Tibet and Xinjiang , where the UN has said China may have committed crimes against humanity by placing up to a million ethnic Uyghur Muslims in re-education camps, must be raised.

What is the outcome likely to be?

Most analysts doubt that the EU and its messages on the looming trade dispute and Chinese support for Russia over Ukraine will make much headway with Xi, whose visit seems designed to exploit the bloc’s internal differences.

China’s economy is facing some difficulties and the US is increasingly reticent about opening up to Chinese companies, meaning the EU could have some leverage, but its 27 members are not fully aligned on China policy, undermining their influence.

Macron wants a more aggressive EU stance on subsidies and has warned that the bloc risks falling behind without one, but other leaders, such as Germany’s chancellor, Olaf Scholz, stress the importance of the Chinese market for their own exporters.

Overall, said Janka Oertel, of the European Council on Foreign Relations, Xi’s Paris visit is “unlikely to have a significant impact on Chinese behaviour”. And Shen Dingli, a Shanghai-based analyst, said the Belgrade and Budapest stops were part of China’s efforts to deepen divisions within the west.
