Additional Resources

A her-story of the six queens.

Catherine of Aragon

Remembered for… Her refusal to accept that her marriage was invalid; her faith; her dramatic speech to Henry when he had her brought to court to seek the annulment of their marriage.

Birth and death December 15, 1485 – January 7, 1536

Marriage One: to Arthur (Henry’s older brother), November 14, 1501 (aged 15) Two: to Henry VIII, June 11, 1509 (aged 23)

Children Mary, born February 18, 1516 (later Queen Mary I). Catherine also had two other children who died as infants, three stillborn children, and several miscarriages.

Interests Religion, sewing, dancing, a bit more religion.

Cause of death Probably a type of cancer.

Did you know? While Henry fought in France in 1513, Catherine was regent during the Battle of Flodden; when James IV of Scotland was killed in the battle, Catherine wanted to send his body to Henry as a present.

Queenspiration Beyoncé and Shakira

Anne Boleyn

Remembered for… Headlessness; bringing about England's break with the Pope; having a sixth fingernail.

Birth and death c. 1501 – May 19, 1536

Marriage January 25, 1533 (aged 31)

Children Elizabeth, born September 7, 1533 (later Queen Elizabeth I). Anne also had at least two miscarriages.

Interests Fashion, dancing, flirtation, collecting evangelical works.

Queen Links Lady-in-waiting to Catherine of Aragon.

Cause of death Executed on Tower Green, London.

Remembered for… Headlessness; bringing about England's break with the Pope; having a sixth fingernail.

Did you know? Because she was fluent in French, Anne would have acted as a translator during the visit of Emperor Charles V to court in 1522.

Queenspiration Lily Allen and Avril Lavigne

Jane Seymour

Remembered for… Being the “only one he truly loved”; having two troublesome brothers who fought over the regency of the young Prince Edward after King Henry’s death.

Birth and death 1507 or 1508 – October 24, 1537

Marriage May 30, 1536 (aged 28 or 29)

Children Edward, born October 12, 1537 (later King Edward VI).

Interests Religious faith, obedience.

Queen Links Lady-in-waiting to Anne Boleyn.

Cause of death Hemorrhage after the birth of Prince Edward; her child with Henry.

Did you know? While Anne Boleyn was still alive, Henry sent Jane a gift of money which she refused, apparently saying there “was no treasure in this world that she valued so much as her honour.”

Queenspiration Adele and Sia

Anna of Cleves

Remembered for… Being chosen from her portrait and then rejected when Henry met her.

Also known as Anne of Cleves (the Anglicisation of her name) She is referred to as Anna here to distinguish between the two Annes & to honor the name she would have called herself in her own language.

Birth and death 1515 – July 16, 1557

Marriage January 6, 1540 (aged 24)

Children None.

Interests Staying alive.

Queen Links Anna visited Katherine Howard once she became queen and bowed down to her.

Cause of death Probably cancer.

Remembered for… Being chosen from her portrait and then rejected when Henry met her.

Did you know? When Henry first met Anna of Cleves, he disguised himself, possibly imagining some sort of a romantic reaction. According to a witness, when Henry kissed Anna, she turned away coldly from the hideous stranger molesting her. The witness, Lord Russell, observed that he “never saw His Highness so marvelously astonished.”

Queenspiration Nicki Minaj and Rihanna

Katherine Howard

Remembered for… Being completely used (and abused) by those with power over her.

Birth and death c. 1523 – February 13, 1542

Marriage July 28, 1540 (aged 17)

Queen Links Lady-in-waiting to Anna of Cleves; cousin to Anne Boleyn.

Did you know? From her arrest on November 8, 1541 until her execution three months later, Katherine stayed under house arrest at Syon House; in late January of 1542, an act was passed in Parliament that rendered it treason for a woman to become the king’s wife without “plain declaration before of her unchaste life,” meaning Henry could have her killed.

Queenspiration Ariana Grande and Britney Spears

Catherine Parr

Remembered for… Surviving.

Birth and death c. 1512 – September 5, 1548

Marriage One: to Sir Edward Burgh, a courtier, 1529-1533 Two: to John Neville, Lord Latimer, 1534-1543 Three: to Henry VIII, July 12, 1543 Four: in secret to Thomas Seymour, May, 1547

Children A daughter (to Thomas Seymour) who died as an infant.

Interests Writing books, encouraging education, the Reformation.

Queen Links Catherine’s mother was lady-in-waiting to Catherine of Aragon and Catherine was friendly with Aragon’s daughter, Princess Mary.

Cause of death Childbirth.

Did you know? Catherine was the first woman in England to publish books under her own name and in English. Queenspiration Alicia Keys and Emeli Sandé

SIX UK TOUR Principles 2023

Since its early days as a student production in a 100-seat room at the 2017 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the show has fast become a global musical phenomenon. On the international stage, SIX currently has productions playing on Broadway at the Lena Horne Theatre and two concurrent North American tours, including a seven-week run in Las Vegas, with further stagings announced in Canada and Holland this autumn. SIX opens in Seoul, South Korea on 17 March and recently completed an Australian tour. The UK tour is now booking through to 2024.

Winner of 26 major international awards including the 2022 Tony Award for ‘Best Original Score’ and ‘Best Costume Design’ on Broadway, double Whatsonstage Award winner for ‘Best West End Show’ 2022 & 2023, and the 2020 BBC Radio 2 Audience Award for ‘Best Musical’, SIX was also nominated for five Olivier awards, including ‘Best New Musical’. Celebrating the global success of its songs with over 500 million streams and over three billion views on TikTok, the original studio album of SIX officially turned Gold in 2021, with the Broadway album ‘SIX – Live on Opening Night’ nominated for a Grammy Award.

Adam Scott Insists There's No Animosity on PGA Tour Board

Bob harig | may 12, 2024.

Adam Scott has a seat on the subcommittee that will seek to unify the pro game.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Golf’s behind-the-scenes drama took a turn this week with Rory McIlroy’s disclosure that he won’t be a part of the PGA Tour Policy Board but will be on a subcommittee that negotiates directly with the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia.

And with reports that there is a rift among the six player directors, some of whom are allegedly taking a hard line against a deal while others would like to see compromise.

Adam Scott pushed back on the latter Sunday, putting forth a positive spin on all the developments, saying what is occurring is complicated and that patience is needed.

“I would disagree completely,” Scott said when asked about the alleged disagreement. “I don’t see it that way at all.”

Scott is a player director along with Tiger Woods, Patrick Cantlay, Jordan Spieth, Webb Simpson and Peter Malnati, all of whom played in the Wells Fargo Championship.

The 2013 Masters champion was named on Thursday by the PGA Tour to a transaction committee that includes McIlroy, Woods, PGA Tour commissioner, player liaison Joe Ogilvie, Joe Gorder, a board member from Valero Energy and John Henry from Strategic Sports Group.

Scott said Ogilvie, a former Tour player, is a huge asset and making it easier for the player directors to concentrate on their golf while getting updates on the intricate matters.

“It became a bigger drama than was really needed,” said Scott, 43, who has 14 victories on the PGA Tour and played it for more than 20 years. “Ultimately we got to a really positive outcome. Tiger and Rory are both going to be right there before anything goes beyond that committee. And I think that’s really important at the end of the day that Tiger has a say in how professional golf shakes out on the PGA Tour, something he’s really influenced the evolution of.

“And Rory is the most influential active player. Tiger’s not quite as active as Rory. But Rory’s had a strong voice over the last couple of years. Whatever the result, if they achieve a result together, it’s unquestionable whatever that result is and it’s all positive moving forward.”

Simpson had sought to have McIlroy replace him on the board a few weeks ago when he was considering leaving the post. McIlroy had resigned in November but has become dismayed over the lack of movement toward unification or a deal with the PIF, which backs LIV Golf.

Golf Digest reported that Woods, Cantlay and Spieth did not want McIlroy to return while the other board members have been more receptive to working something out.

Scott denied that was the case. And he said the private equity deal with the Strategic Sports Group which was announced in January and saw an initial investment of $1.5 billion to PGA Tour Enterprises has delayed the situation with the PIF due to its complexity.

“Both sides said that the SSG deal was one of the most complicated deals they’ve ever been involved in. Both sides,” Scott said. “And I can only think this (with the PIF) is going to be as complicated. So some patience is required. There are even more complications to iron out. As PIF is funding LIV and how all this moves forward.

“I’m keen for it to be resolved. But I’m not keen to rush something through that’s wrong. I’m putting my player hat on. There’s guys livelihoods out here and I think the core of our game is great and that will aways rise above it if we let it.”

Scott was among those who went to the Bahamas in March to meet with Yasir Al-Rumayyan , the governor of the PIF who has been behind the LIV Golf League and its team model. “It was more formalities,” Scott said.

But he added: “To be totally honest, I think Rory is going to be incredibly helpful having that line of communication he has with Yasir. I think we’ll get to a good place. I’m really positive. I think it’s all moving in a good spot. Even though it seems rather tumultuous but it probably realistically wasn’t going to happen that fast anyway.

“And when these guys who have done a lot of deals through their lives say this is the most complex thing they’ve ever seen ... I can only imagine.”

Scott said he has no idea what the future of professional golf will look like, but he does wonder if players today realize that they might need to do more in order to be compensated at even higher levels.

PGA Tour Enterprises is a for-profit entity and to get sponsors and TV deals that provide even more revenue is going to mean commitment from the players. As he noted, playing for a $20 million purse in Charlotte would have seemed absurd even five years ago.

“If we want to play for big money, there are going to be more rules,” Scott said. “They’ll have to show up. And do some stuff. I think we do nothing, actually. To be honest, it has been the dream situation. We’re really not told much. Even when a strength-of-field rule was added (requiring players to an an event they had not attended for four years). That’s how good we’ve had it. Incredibly good.

“If you’re a full-card carrier, it’s pretty easy to make a schedule out here and do whatever the hell you want. And there’s very little obligation outside of doing a pro-am. I just think there’s nothing wrong with that at all. And playing for $20 million is almost unfathomable. Even for me, coming behind Tiger. I don’t even know what the purses were in Europe when I turned pro. I can’t believe we’re playing for a $20 million purse It’s gone nuts.”
