Mauritius, at this time of the year is bustling with activities and tourists from all walks of life. Explore the way of life of the locals as you take a tour of a quiet and quaint fishing village. If you are a wildlife enthusiast, make your way to the Vallée de Ferney. A wildlife reserve tucked away in the southeast. Trudge along a three-kilometer trail to spot the endangered Mauritius kestrel and glimpses of fascinating flora and fauna. If you wish to take the road less travelled, opt for the low season discounted Mauritius tour packages between December and March. Le Mourne Brabant

Troudd’argent, maison eureka, black river gorges national park, national history museum, port louis , grand baie .

For those who delve into the depths of intriguing history, this place is a must-visit. Le Mourne Brabant marks the peninsular area of southwest Mauritius which makes for a spectacular mountainous landscape. However, it is more famous for being a refuge shelter for the runaway slaves from nearby places including the African mainland, south-east Asia, and Madagascar. The hilly terrain that holds several caves helped them to conceal themselves from their masters and stay protected. Serving as an impregnable fortress and a refuge against slavery, it attained the symbolism of resistance against social evil. It was declared as a World Heritage Site, Mauritius’s first-ever, by UNESCO in 2008. Explore the historical side of Mauritius to your heart’s content with the well-planned Mauritius tour packages available on our page.

One of the most wondrous places to visit in Mauritius, Troud’Argent is a beach on Rodrigues Island. Extremely beautiful, with pure white sands and blue waters, the site finds its place at the top of the list of most popular tourist spots in the country. Equally loved by both tourists and the locals, the beach promises the most memorable and relaxed day out at sea. With the tropical sun shining bright and reflecting off the splashing waters at the shore, it is indeed a bliss to be lazing around on a chaise longue and sipping rum coco. You can find this beach as a standard inclusion in several Mauritius tour packages.

If Mauritian history dating to its colonial era is what you seek, then do not miss out on Maison Eureka. The perfectly conserved Creole mansion that was built in the 1830s is indeed a sight to behold. Today it has been transmuted into a museum that takes you gliding back into the island's spirited bygone days of a plantation. The architecture of the house is another aspect to marvel at with its superior, tropical ideal construction that is still effective in keeping the interiors pleasantly cool. The incalculable number of rooms, 109 doors and antique furniture that’s beautifully preserved even to this day are incredible to witness. Moreover, the numerous ancient maps, and a mildewed piano along with carefully manicured grounds and stone servant cottages just add to the list of the house’s impressive features. Visit Maison Eureka and various popular tourist sites on this island nation by going with the Mauritius tour packages offered on our website.

Of the many beautiful and ardent natural environs of the rugged Mauritian mountains, Black River Gorges National Park deserves a special mention. One of the many magnificent attractions in Mauritius, the park is filled with lovely rainforests that boast of many quaint hiking trails and picnic spots. It displays a wide array of both flora and fauna, with many rare species too such as the Mauritian flying fox that draws in huge crowds of tourists from the world over. Serving as the most important wildlife and rainforest conservatory of the country, it is the home to many endemic birds and animals. The park is not only an essential ecological system but is also a celebrated tourist destination of Mauritius which is heavily frequented by avid hikers. The 60 km long hiking trail winds along the forest area to end at delightful picnic spots. If you find the Black River Gorges National Park interesting, make sure to opt for Mauritius packages that include a visit to this site.

The roots of any place can be explored through its museums, and the Natural History Museum does the same for Mauritius. It showcases a collection of some veritably fascinating artifacts which includes many ancient maps of the island and amusing paintings of the original fauna of the county- including that of a dodo. Along with these, you can also spot here the preserved bones of certain extinct birds, a curio of an engraving depicting some Dutchmen riding the back of an enormous tortoise and some salvaged objects- cannons, wine bottles etc. dating back to the Battle of Vieux Grand Port from 1810. Get to learn about this island nation’s diverse history during a fun vacation with our Mauritius travel packages.

Although famous among tourists as a great shopping destination in Mauritius , the capital city of Port Louis is also a trove amassing several cultural attractions in Mauritius. Located here is The Blue Penny Museum which is the home to the first ever colonial stamp across the globe. Also, The Natural History Museum in the city lets you get a glimpse of the preserved skeleton of the extinct dodo bird. Port Louis is also the place to get a taste of the multi-culture and faiths of Mauritius through a visit to its many Indian or Chinese temples, churches and mosques. You can also experience life here by going for a leisurely afternoon stroll with the residents or expats of the area. Take a walk uphill from the Signal Mountain which derived its name from the antenna located at the summit, to witness the beauty of the city below during sunset. You can find Port Louis as the starting point in many planned Mauritius packages.

Until about 20 years ago, Grand Baie, a quiet fishing village of Mauritius, is now a bustling tourist spot of the country. This lovely sheltered bay that is also given the sobriquet of ‘Le Trop,' appears happily bobbing up and down with the many big and small boats in its clear waters. The village has emerged as one of the most prominent tourism hubs of the nation and is famous for the many entertainment options and hot shopping districts, along with several unusual sightseeing spots, beaches, and excursions in the nearby areas and a kid friendly ‘Aquarium’ where you can enjoy feeding the fish. You won’t have any issue finding Mauritius packages that include a visit to Grand Baie.

Apart from letting you enjoy rum tasting, the interactive museum of L’Aventure du Sucre located here will also allow you to learn the history of the island. Also, found only 275 m away from the institution, are the Pamplemousses Botanic Gardens which make for another refreshing visit. The garden which was built in the 18th century is famous for an enormous pond of Amazon lilies that are extraordinary to view.

The food in Mauritius is very similar to Indian food. With foods like biriyani, achaar and falooda in common with Indian cuisine. Here’s some Mauritian foods you must try on your Mauritius trip.

Mauritian Biryani

Bolrenverse.

Like Indian achaar, Achard is a tangy, sweet, spicy mix of vegetables that can be eaten with bread, biriyani or rotis.

The Indian faloodas Mauritian cousin, this is a thick, sweet concoction of sweetened milk, ice cream fruits and nuts that is a must try on your Mauritian holiday.

DholPuri is a street food in which thin wheat bread or roti is stuffed with ground split peas. It is served with curries, pickles and chutney. It is sold all over the island, and you cannot afford to miss this dish on your Mauritius holiday as it is a taste of home in a foreign land.

Mauritian biryani is very similar to Hyderabadi Biryani made with fragrant Basmati rice and meat. Potatoes placed at the bottom to prevent the rice from burning or sticking to the vessel and mingle with the rice to form a crunchy crust called socarrat which is a little-known culinary gem you’ll want to explore on your Mauritius holiday. You just can’t miss trying out Mauritian Biryani during your Mauritius tours and travels.

The cousin of the Indian paratha, these flatbreads are eaten all over the island. They are also called Roti Chaud, which means ‘hot roti’ in French. These are served with curries, stews and chutneys and will make you feel at home on your trip to Mauritius.

Literally meaning ‘Upside down bowl’ this is a biryani consisting of three layers: an omelet, chicken or seafood stir-fried with vegetables and sauces and finally stir fried or steamed rice. While preparing the dish, the omelet is first placed in the bowl, followed by the meat or fish and vegetables and lastly, cooked rice. While serving it is turned upside down, which gives it its name.

Things to Do in Mauritius

Pick your own tea, splash about with some watersports, climb signal mountain, play with lion cubs at casella park, ride into the sunset at riambel beach.

Sometimes you want to take a morning stroll and it is best to be a part of the tea plantations. The natural beauty of the place which comes along with tea plantations makes the place a must visit to Bois Cheri Tea plantation. Celebrate your early mornings by taking a small walk through the plantations and enjoying the virgin beauty of nature on your dream Mauritius vacation. You may find some popular Mauritius travel packages that include a short visit to these tea plantations.

Belle Mare in Mauritius is where you can partake in a variety of watersports from scuba diving to snorkeling and kite surfing. This is sure to get your heart racing and your adrenaline pumping on your tour of Mauritius.

So, named because of the signal antennae at its summit, reaching the top of Signal mountain will give you a magnificent view of Port-Louis on one side and of the western coastline of the island on the other. Many people like to take up this hike during their Mauritius tours and travel as it leaves them with a sense of wonder and amazement.

Casella Park is a huge outdoor amusement park with safari tours, camel rides & zip-lining. It is in Cascavella. Here you can feel the thrill and majesty of getting up close and personal with the king of the jungle under the watchful eyes of the guides and trainers. You can also cuddle a lion cub or two making this experience the highlight of your Mauritius vacation.

Riambel beach embodies the spirit of everything tropical. There’s the sun, the sand and the sea, all coexisting in perfect harmony. A perfect way to wind down your Mauritius holiday is to splash about in the water during the day and as the sun begins to set, you can rent a horse to take a leisurely languid ride down the beach into the sunset capping off a wonderful Mauritian holiday.

One of the main highlights of tourism in this island country off the Southeastern coast of Africa is its mesmerising beaches. Here are some of the best beaches in Mauritius that you can consider visiting during your Mauritius tours and travels;

Flic en Flac

The quaint little beach town of Flic en Flac is one of the most sought-after tourist landmarks in Mauritius. The Flic en Flac beach, often found in the itinerary of most popular Mauritius tour packages, is located on the country’s west coast and is the main highlight of this seaside village. Stretching a total length of around 8 kilometres, this beach is known for its remarkable scenic beauty. This stretch of sand is bordered by casuarina trees on one side and cerulean water on the other, along with a subtle backdrop of rocky mountains. Besides the long line of beachfront hotels, bars, restaurants, etc., Flic en Flac Beach also offers opportunities for swimming, scuba diving, sunset watching, etc.

Mont Choisy Beach

If you are looking for an exotic holiday, try to go for Mauritius tour packages that feature a visit to Mont Choisy Beach. Located on the northern end of this island country, just 5 kilometres from Grand Baie, it is a secluded beach you can check out if you want to spend some time in tranquillity. This non-crowded, 3-kilometre-long, white sand beach gives tourists an ideal opportunity to witness the beautiful regional marine life. However, note that there isn’t much scope for fun or adventure activities at Mont Choisy Beach due to the absence of proper nearby accommodations.

Pereybere Beach

Located a bit north of Grand Baie, Pereybere Beach is among the most popular tourist attractions in Mauritius. It is a small beach stretching a length of just 150 metres, known for being one of the best family-friendly, safe-to-swim beaches in the region. It remains crowded throughout the year, so the best time to visit Pereybere Beach is during the early morning or late afternoon. Some of the best things to do at this beach are kayaking, parasailing, windsurfing, deep-sea fishing, etc. Enjoy a memorable beachside vacation with your family and loved ones with the Mauritius tour packages offered by Thomas Cook.

Belle Mare Beach

Belle Mare Beach is one of the most famous beaches in Mauritius, roughly 45 kilometres to the east of Port Louis. It is surrounded by a shallow lagoon with coral reefs separating it from the bay, resulting in serene waves. Hence, this beach is perfect for family visits if you intend to spend time swimming in the shallow water. The beach also offers a number of activities, such as glass-bottom boating, snorkelling, paddleboarding, etc. So, make sure to go for Mauritius tour packages that include a visit to this beautiful beach.

La Cuvette Beach

The main point of attraction that draws tons of tourists to La Cuvette Beach in Mauritius is its unspoiled beauty. The serene environment matched with the calm blue waves, white sand and dense greenery, creates a majestic setting perfect for couples. Tourists love to visit this beach for swimming, fishing, windsurfing, volleyball, boating, etc., which is why it is a common inclusion in many Mauritius packages. Also, during your visit to La Cuvette Beach, grab a bite from the local eateries if you feel hungry.

Mauritius currency

The currency utilised in Mauritius is known as the Mauritian Rupee, denoted by the currency code "MUR" and symbolised by "Re" (singular) and "Rs" (plural). One Mauritian Rupee is divisible into 100 cents. Even though it has a different value, the currency term “rupee” can also be seen to be used in countries like India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, etc. At the moment, the denominations available in banknotes include 25 Rupees, 50 Rupees, 100 Rupees, 200 Rupees, 500 Rupees, 1000 Rupees and 2000 Rupees. In terms of coins, the denominations available are 5 cents, 20 cents, 50 cents, 1 Rupee, 5 Rupees, 10 Rupees and 20 Rupees. Individuals will need this currency for making payments in this island nation during their Mauritius tours and travels. It is because the country doesn’t accept other foreign currencies as legal tender. It is recommended to carry sufficient Mauritian Rupees on your trip by opting for currency exchange. You can do so in your home country prior to the trip or after landing in Mauritius. As of now, 1 Mauritian Rupee is equivalent to  1.85 Indian Rupee.

You can easily acquire foreign currency for your Mauritius trip by opting for the foreign exchange services offered by Thomas Cook. To do so, visit the website, provide the necessary details (including check rate, currency type, forex amount, etc.) and submit your communication details to get a quotation. After that, simply provide the additional information, complete online payment, choose a mode of delivery, and you will have your forex in no time.

Mauritius visas for Indians

Indian tourists planning on visiting Mauritius will need to have a valid visa in order to enter the country. However, the good news is that Indian nationals are eligible for the Mauritius Visa on Arrival facility at the Mauritius International Airport, which means they are not required to apply for a visa in advance. After arriving at the airport, they can obtain their VOA by simply providing the necessary travel documents at the airport immigration counter. The Mauritius VOA is a single-entry visa that is issued free of cost and is valid for up to 60 days. For other visa-related requirements, tourists can check out the online visa services offered by Thomas Cook.

THINGS TO DO

Places to visit.

We have listed the top reasons to go on a trip to Mauritius. Read on!

ADRENALINE ACTIVITIES GALORE

The islands of Mauritius offer a range of exhilarating activities to pump up oneā€™s adrenaline! For a birdā€™s eye view of the island, the lagoon and the Indian Ocean, opt for skydiving from Sugar Fields, or parasailing in Grand Baie, Belle Mare or Ile Aux Cerfs. The Vallee Des Couleurs, or the Valley of coloured earth, hosts the third-longest zipline in the world. The valley is also home to the thrilling Nepalese Bridge, which is the longest hanging bridge on the Indian Ocean. Moreover, there are many well-marked hiking trails that can be explored on foot or bikes.

BEACH BLISS

Beach Holidays in Mauritius are extremely popular and well-loved. The country offers stunning sights- both over and under the water. Owing to its location, the islands of Mauritius enjoy balmy temperatures at all times of the year, and the surrounding blue waters are always warm. Mauritius is home to some of the most stunning coral reefs and underwater diversity in the world. Diving in Mauritius awards a range of experiences. The striking underwater visibility around Ile Aux Cerfs makes it a great destination for snorkelling. Belle Mare is one of the best sites to explore hard and soft corals, and marine life like lionfish, eels, clownfish (HI NEMO!) and stingrays. On the other hand, the absence of coral reefs around Tamarin Beach makes it ideal for surfing. Coin de Mire is ideal for underwater photography, and its pink coral seabed is ethereal. Turtle House Reef is home to the extremely rare Green Turtle and Hawksbill Turtle.

Mauritius tour packages for families usually always include the famous underwater sea walk. Fit for everyone above the age of ten, an underwater sea walk is like a submarine tour on foot in between the corals, inside the reef. Walking on the seabed allows one to come in close contact with marine life, making it an unforgettable experience.

Glass bottomed boat trips at the Blue Bay Marine Park are a great way to absorb the diversity of life in the lagoon without getting wet through the see-through bottom of the boat. The Park is also ideal for scuba diving as the waters are extremely rich. Seabobs are watercraft that enable their rider to ā€˜swim like a dolphinā€™ by giving them incredible agility. Safe for everyone above the age of ten, these easily controllable vehicles are popular for swimming with fishes at the Grand Bay.

The islands of Mauritius are also a good destination for water skiing. Trou Aux Biches and Mont Choisy offer the best water-ski opportunities on the island. Deep-sea big game fishing at Grand Bay is another tourist favourite!

CULTURAL EXPERIENCES

The citizens of Mauritius are all descendants of immigrants. Dutch, French, British, African, Indian and Chinese cultures come together on this south-east African island to offer an extremely unique experience. With demography so varied, the countryā€™s rank among the most peaceful countries globally is a reflection of how seamlessly the different cultures have merged.

The architecture of Mauritius is an eclectic mix of these cultures. Port Louis, for example, has faded and beautiful old French buildings standing next to modern high-rises, mosques and pagodas. There are two UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Mauritius — the Aapravasi Ghat and Le Mont Brabant. Aapravasi Ghat, or Immigration Depot, carries historical significance as this is where indentured labourers arrived from India under the colonial rule. Le Mont Brabant is an iconic rugged mountain that was used as a refuge by runaway slaves. Both of these landmarks draw a large number of tourists annually.

While visiting Mauritius, be sure to catch a sega performance, the traditional music of the island. In the times of slavery, sega was used as a means of self-expression. Most hotels organise these performances, and Flic-en-Flac Beach is famous for performances by the locals on weekends.

SWIM WITH DOLPHINS

The islands of Mauritius are some of the best destinations to observe dolphins in their natural habitat. Unlike in aquariums where the dolphins are held captive and trained to interact with humans, seeing them in the wild is more ethical and rewarding. Tamarin Bay is an ideal place to witness dolphins, particularly the Bottlenose and Spinner dolphins. Excursions are carried out without causing any disturbance or harm to the creatures and it is emphasised that the tourists are the ones exploring the home of the dolphins. Observers can either see the creatures from a distance or if they are lucky and skilled at swimming, they may get a chance to swim with them.

EXPLORATION

Mauritius is one big island, unlike Seychelles, but there are many small islets just off its coast that are unspoilt and waiting to be explored. Mauritius packages always dedicate a day or two to island hopping, exploring and discovering these off coast gems. Ile Aux Cerfs is the most loved islet while island hopping in Mauritius. It is as perfect for lazily basking in the sun as it is for taking part in exhilarating water activities. The islet also has an adventure park offering good zip lining opportunities, and the famous Ile Aux Cerfs Golf Course. Flat Island, or Ile Plate, is one of the largest islets around Mauritius. An hour and a half long catamaran ride away, the islet is known for its hiking trail up the hill, where one of the countryā€™s few operating lighthouses stands. Ile dā€™Ambre is an iconic island-hopping destination. Owing to the dense mangrove forest and ancient ruins, hiking here is hugely popular. The interiors of the island are rugged, and filled with hills and gorges, standing in stark contrast to its beachy edges. Nature is at her best on these rugged hills, and challenging and thrilling land activities are a huge draw for tourists. The Black River Gorges National Park, covering about 2 per cent of the island, is the biggest national park in Mauritius. The thick forest cover is home to an incredibly diverse range of flora and fauna, and they form the habitat of the islandā€™s most endangered species — the Echo Parakeet, the Mauritius Kestrel and the Pink Pigeon.

FLORA AND FAUNA

Mauritius is teeming with a wide range of flora and fauna, both endemic and introduced, which are not only a delight to explore but are also of ecological significance. With so many coral reefs surrounding the island of Mauritius, the country is home to more than 400 aquatic species, including bottlenose dolphins, humpback whales, tuna, marlin and a host of colourful, tropical fishes.

The fruit bat is the only native terrestrial mammal on the island, but several other creatures have been introduced from neighbouring countries in an effort to boost the biodiversity. One such specie that has been re-introduced is the Giant Aldabra Tortoise from Seychelles. Scores of different birds have been recorded on these islands, including endemic species like the Pink Pigeon, the Grey-White Eye, the Olive-White Eye, the Paradise Flycatcher and the Mauritius Parakeet.

Ile Aux Aigrettes is the best place to enjoy the diverse flora and fauna of Mauritius. A tiny coral island in the south-east of the country, it has been declared a nature conservation site and efforts are being made to return it to its pre-human condition. Pink Pigeons, Mauritius Fodies, Fruit Bats, Day Geckos and the Legged Snake Telfairā€™s skink are protected on this island.

The cuisine of the island is an extension of this seamless harmony. Incredibly diverse and with a range of options ranging from Michelin star restaurants to street food, food in Mauritius is one of the major draws for tourists! Must-try items include Rougaille, a Creole tomato-based stew; Fish Vindaye, an iconic, flavourful seafood dish and Dholl Puri, the national dish of the island. Street vendors sell samosas, Gateaux Pigment (which is similar to falafel), Min Frite, or fried noodles, and sweet potato cakes.

TOP TOURIST ATTRACTIONS

The coloured dunes in Chamarel are perhaps the most iconic sights in Mauritius. A stunning natural phenomenon, the dunes have sands of seven colours -- red, brown, violet, blue, green, purple and yellow. It is a marvellous fact that despite decades of harsh torrential rainfall, the coloured earth has not lost its colour. Nowadays, tourists are not allowed to stand on the sand, and are required to enjoy the view from the protected perimeter. Chamarel also has curio shops and a few Giant Aldabra Turtles.

After Grand Bay, Flic en Flac is the most popular tourist attraction on the island of Mauritius. With 8 km of white sand, this beach is often counted in the top beaches of the country and it houses some of the best dive spots in the island. There is a water activity for everyone here -- banana and paddle boating for kids, water skiing, parasailing, deep-sea fishing, kayaking, canoeing and sailing for the others. Close by is the Casela World of Adventures, a nature park which offers a range of activities including safari drives, quad biking, canyon swinging, zip lining and canoeing. The park also offers interactions with animals, including the Big Cats and giraffes.

A large coral rock rising over the surface of the Indian Ocean, Crystal Rock is a huge draw for tourists visiting Mauritius. Boat rides go up to 200m close to the rock, allowing on boards to marvel at the formation up close. Snorkelling or swimming with dolphins is usually clubbed together with this visit.

The biggest national park in Mauritius, Black River Gorges is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna. The park also has stunning vistas of the gorges, and is great for hiking. Do not miss out on birdwatching here!

On Rodriguez Island, Parc Francois is a popular tourist attraction. Fondly called the Turtle Park because of the large number of turtles, this place is a necessary addition to any Mauritius tour package for families!

Among Mauritiusā€™ most beautiful canyons, the Tamarind Falls are a tourist favourite all year round. Also known as the Seven Cascades because of its seven steps, the quietness of the place is refreshing. There is also a national park nearby, making it even more unmissable! Be sure to hike to the falls and stand under the water. The falls also allow stunning views of the Le Morne Mountain.

The oldest botanical garden in the Southern Avenue, the Sir Seewoosagar Botanical Garden or the Pamplemousse Botanical garden is home to a wide array of indigenous flora and fauna. One of the rarest sights is the blooming of the Talipot Palm, which blooms only once in every 30 to 80 years! Java tortoise and Giant Turtles can also be seen here!

Home to a large number of Giant Turtles on the island, the park is a great addition to Mauritius Tour Packages for Families. La Vanille also has Nile Crocodiles and other reptiles and a wide range of butterflies. A mini zoo with the fauna of Mauritius is well-loved.

Abhisek's 11 days trip to Dubai

I had planned for a 12 day trip to Dubai. Prior to this experience I had normaly been weary of using travel agents because my overall feedback from fellow commuters was that post payment of the trip cost generally these people became indifferent to your concerns/issues. However, I can vocuh that experience with TravelTriangle was just on the opposite side. As is always the case, in a trip of 12 days specifically when you are travelling with family with 2 kids there would be iterations and new requirements. TravelTrinagle was exteremely accomodative to all the requests put forth from our side. Special thanks to Amit and Prateek who would even at odd hours pick up my call and attend to the requests. On the planning side, the entire trip was so well organised that we were able to enjoy all the amusement parks and other activities to the fullest without having to rush through things. To conclude TravelTriangle did not only deliver what I was expecting from them but way beyond. I am sure with the focus on customer satisaction that they bring on table it would be an agency to reckon with. Highly recommend to use their services for anyone wishing to have a comfortable and leisurely trip.

Raosaheb's 9 days trip to Dubai

*Dubai Trip with Travel Triangle: A Mixed Bag* Overall: My Dubai trip with Travel Triangle offered a customized itinerary at a competitive price, with great hotel selection and included activities. However, communication issues and inflexibility on tours detracted from the experience. Pros: Customization: Travel Triangle built a package that fit my needs, including the hotel and activities I wanted. Hotel: I was very happy with the chosen hotel - [Hyatt and Wyndham]. Selective Activities: I appreciated the option to choose specific activities instead of a pre-set package. Location & Transport: Having included airport transfers and local transportation was convenient. Ground Team: The ground team in Dubai was generally helpful. Competitive Price: I felt I got good value for the price I paid. Sightseeing Flexibility: I liked having some flexibility in choosing which sights to see. Cons: Ticketing Confusion: There were issues with receiving the correct ticketing information for some activities, causing some confusion. Itinerary Clarity: The itinerary for locations could have been clearer, leading to some minor navigation challenges. Shared Tours: Being placed in a shared tour group (SIC) with incompatible travelers wasn't ideal. Driver Rigidity: Drivers' strict adherence to routes and limited flexibility during sightseeing was frustrating. Unprofessional Conduct: Some pick-up and drop-off experiences for sightseeing involved harsh or rude behavior, which put a damper on the mood. Recommendation: While Travel Triangle offered a good value with a customized package, communication and tour flexibility need improvement. If you prioritize clear communication and a relaxed sightseeing experience, you might want to consider other options. However, if you're on a budget and value a customizable itinerary, Travel Triangle could be a good fit, with the caveat that you might need to manage your expectations regarding communication and tour flexibility. 5 Star Rating for Meenakshi: A special shoutout to Meenakshi, the sales executive, who did an excellent job in planning an efficient tour package and itinerary - had tremendous support to arrange a package, understanding activities and plan then accordingly. Always Recommended to get your tour planned efficiently and budget friendly. Ground Team - Mehul & Ankit - prompt support for the next day schedule, ticket and other support. Top 5 airlines flying to Mauritius

On the Dubai-Gatwick flight the only meal options were Beef or Chicken. No vegetarian option. This was a surprise. I would usually order in advance but did not this time. Would have been good to know that a vegetarian meal is not available as a standard meal. Thankfully it was just me travelling, but if Iā€™d had my kids with me that would have been a big problem for us.

Checkin and boarding staff at Delhi Airport is not cooperative with passengers Their behavior very humiliating . They donā€™t allow Lap top bag and Ladiesā€™ purse/vanity bag which most of the airlines allow besides cabin baggage and check in baggages. They try to charge extra payment on the pretext of small variations which normally other Airlines staff donā€™t do. Airline staff should be courteous & cooperative but check in staff of Emirates Airline at Delhi was not so at all.

The experience was not as pleasant returning as leaving. Went through clearance twice, crew was not as customer focused.

Good but needs to improve cleanliness Coffee serve cold Needs to raise standard serving food Otherwise good

Very bad !! My confirmed ticket got canceled with out notifying me in hyd airport , crew didnā€™t help us out !! They were very rude!! They made me pay for the confirmed ticket again !! Can you please let us know how I can get the refund for the ticket I paid

Overall good but one thing I didnā€™t understand is why they didnā€™t allow me to pick my own seat.

Check-in process at Bengaluru airport was atrociously slow. Emirates should allow baggage drop option after online check-in and verification of documents. The rest of the flight was quite good and we didn't have any complaints.

The air hostess spilled tomato juice on me by mistake in Mumbai -Dubai flight. I was traveling from Mumbai to UAD. Her senior came and offered couple of small chocolates (probably given in business class) as compensation. I asked for access to lounge as I had to travel till IAD and I could shower and change. But she said she cannot do that and did nothing further. I found the response to their mistake as inappropriate.

Food was not eadable. Testless and not apealing. order for indian vegitarian, recived spice less. combination of main course and side iteams are far away from traditonal food, serve less iteams. , but eadoble. Thanks

My wife with 5 month son were traveling. No proper support was provided for luggage handling. Although it was requested in prior. My wife sole manage everything and was not as expected.

This was an old 320 without a screen or USB charging port even in the business class. The food could have been better.

a real good flying experince. Everything was excellent right from check-in to baggage collection at destination.

Food is tasting bad, and it is a fusion but not authentic.

Excellent experience and now my preferred airline. Even a fantastic meal with dessert in a 2 hour flight.

off late the crew and the air in the flight is becoming that of a budget airline not the earlier Vistara .

It wasn't clear from where to board flight international or domestic Airport

Information was not clear from where to check in international or domestic Airport at Ahmedabad.

The deplaning experience was bad, since they did not get the aerobridge at Madras on arrival and the bus felt like a local train during office hour rush

i bought a biz class fare but a few days before vistara always changes my biz class flight to economy .. happened to me 4 times .. seated could be wider .. boarding could be more organized .. crew did their best but not enough resources all in all very poor experience

The cabin is due for a refresh - the seats are very thin and not very comfortable. The AVOD system also did not work on one of the seats and the touch screen were very glitchy. The overall cleanliness of the aircraft could be improved

Food was great. They never to add more current entertainment like movies and shows

Front section of economy cabin is better than rear. Paid for seats selected.

Good flight. Paid for seats sat the frront section of the economy. Better than rear cabin.

Apart from delay of 3 hrs in Nairobi for onward flight to Dar all fine. Looked like operational issues caused it.

I booked a round trip flight and boarded a Kenya Airways trip from New York (JFK) to Nairobi (JKIA). First flight from New York to Nairobi was uneventful with no issues. However, the return flight was beyond disappointing. To begin with I had paid an extra $60 each for premium seats (me and my wife) in economy aisle 15 (B & A). However, upon settling down in the middle seat, I noticed that the controller had been ripped off meaning I would not have access to some of the seat functionalities like the individual lighting etc. I proceeded to alert a flight attendant that the controller was missing and she politely responded to me by telling me if I need anything, to use my wifeā€™s seat controller (on the window seat) to call for assistance and I would be assisted accordingly. I was surprised by the response that she gave as it felt like my comfort and request for a service that I paid for was undermined, but nonetheless I opted to play it nice and kept my calm. After this I engaged in a conversation with a passenger (Caucasian / White male) who sat next to me on the aisle seat. In the process of having this conversation I asked him if he had paid for his seat. He went ahead to politely tell me that he had been moved from a seat in the back by one of the flight attendants and had not paid any extra fees. During this conversation, he noticed that the charging docks were not working and he needed to charge his iPad to watch his Netflix show (it was on pause). Alarmed by this, he went ahead and flagged one of the flight attendants who without wasting any time acted astonished and as fast as lightning was able to find him a better seat a few rows in front. Please note, all the charging plugs were not working for the three seats. In summary, below are the reasons for the low rating: 1. Charging for a broken seat: Kenya Airways should not charge for a defective seat. If a seat is defective and is paid for, the airlines should work out a way to either refund the customer or move the customer to a better seat ā€“ regardless of skin color. 2. Below Par Customer Service: Do not debilitate a customerā€™s request especially when a paid for service is not delivered ā€“ regardless of skin color. Assuming that I am comfortable with having to either keep alerting the flight attendant or relying on my wifeā€™s seat to perform some of the functionality I may need is ridiculous. 3. Biasness / Inequality / Prejudiced Behavior: The Caucasian/ White male was treated with more favor. Not only was he moved around to make sure he was comfortable (free of charge) but all his complaints were resolved immediately without any hesitance. On the contrary, I being a black man of African descent who had paid an additional premium for his seat, I was completely ignored and told to settle for what I got.

It has been 1 week since arriving at my destination and I still have not recieved my kite surfing bags. Office will not communicate properly on location or when my bags will arrive. No advice on what to do on luggage that has not arrived in over a week. Simply not happy with Kenya airways at the moment.

On a long flight us customers need more rehydration by the crew. Some of us have water bottles but no crew is coming around to offer water. Iā€™m not saying issue us all with plastic water bottles.

The flight staff were not very kind. I went back to get a drink, 4 of them back there chatting. They all looked at me continued to talk then they started doing stuff and one finally asked after I was standing there awhile what I needed. This happened multiple times. The movies were not the great and seemed dated. My seat squeaked every time I moved and it moved around a bit.

My flight from Nairobi to nyc. My seat made noise and moved around. The two toilets in the back didnā€™t work well cause you didnā€™t know if someone was in there cause the light didnā€™t work. The bathroom doors didnā€™t lock well either, so I walked in on someone. The crew wasnā€™t quick or super helpful. When I went to get something they were chatting and they would look at me, continue on with their conversation and finally I would interrupt to get a drink.

Is a terrible airline. The seats are tiny, staff are lazy and rude. Everything is a mission for them and they always take forever. Check in and passport control is enough to turn you off Mauritius all together. Let alone the airline. Mauritius is gorgeous and a must visit if you could avoid the airport and Air Mauritius.

Check in and passport and security timeā€™s appalling Not enough staff for the volume of flights departing.

The crew were great as usual. The flight was rescheduled two hours later but delayed by more than an hours to load cargo. The was upsetting because I missed scheduled meetings in Johannesburg.

Though the food was very good ,I think the portions were too big. It was hard to manage everything on that small table. And you really don't feel like eating too much on a long flight. Just a suggestion and it would save you some money too.

Everything from check-in, punctuality, working screens, food, service, baggage handing

The flight was dirty. The screens were not working and people were restless. Food and staff was okay.

The flight was delayed for 2 reasons. 1) Weather - due to which it incoming aircraft was diverted to Ahmdabad. 2) technical issue which took 5 hrs to solve at Ahmedabad. The flight which was to leave by 6pm left at 12:10am the next day. They could have handled the situation in a better way. They waited for Airbus engineer to come and solve. They didnā€™t simultaneously call for another aircraft so passengers could travel through their connecting flights as scheduled. It was a very poor way from Air India.

Crew were slow in serving, as a result many of the passengers were not served Tea/Coffee. There is a scope for improvement

Very poor experience for the price paid. Airplane interior including seats were old and jaded. Seat tray table did not work properly. Head phone was defective and didnā€™t work. Food was mediocre

Communication was terrible. Flight was delayed for 4-5 hours in DC (on the front end, and also after we boarded, we had to get off - some issue with fueling the old plane correctly). There was little to no information on timing or what was happening. Once we reach Delhi airspace, apparently there was weather that caused us not to land - we were actually near the ground, saw the run way, and lifted back up to the sky after being sooo close. Then we circled for about 30 minutes, and they decided to go to Jaipur to land until the weather cleared and to refuel. Again, once we landed in Jaipur (wrong city), there was little to no information on timing or what was happening. Then we heard that the crew was reaching their 24 hours. We sat on the place, on the tarmac for another 3 HOURS, with no food and not enough water for everyone on the flight. Then, they kicked us off the plane with no plan, in the wrong city. We went thru customs, got our bags (thank goodness), and had to ask a bunch of staff what was happening and what to do. Eventually, their soltuion was to bus people back to Delhi (like 6 hours we were told) but not everyone would fit on the bus, and unknown timing on when it would leave. At this point it was 9PM (we were scheduled to arrive in Delhi at 11AM...). My husband and I decided to risk it and take a cab that we had to pay ourselves (about $200 US dollars) to get to Delhi (about 5 hour drive). We both had terrible trips back to the US as well - almost missed connecting flight, forced to pay for carry-on luggage (a small back pack!) and duty-free goods by the Air India staff last minute. Just terrible experience all around. Never again with AI! The ONLY good thing was the air hostesses were kind and patient - example: they made sure people with food allergies got their correct. However, the TV's did not work so I'm glad we brought our own entertainment.

Need to update the staff of the airport. They tell luggage weight according to they want.

The Air India lounge in Delhi , was very disappointing! The food was of poor quality and options were limited especially for vegetarians!! Beverages were fine. The in flight crew was excellent! . They helped me with my seat controls - the controls did not work without a hassle or assistance!! A very poor showing for a Business cabin!!! Post flight , the wheel chair passengers ( including Me) were ā€œ shepherded and left waiting twice (an hour or more) before taking us to immigration! I chose to Fly Air India because I want. to patronize our National carrier with the hope that the experience will improve!!! Regrettably, I will have to look at other options for my next trip to India

Mediocre staff, crappy food selections and no entertainment for a 14 hour flight. The only good thing was that it was a direct flight.

India to Mauritius - A Complete Guide - Mauritius Packages from India

Turquoise lagoons, pristine beaches and biodiversity-rich rainforests await you as you travel from India to Mauritius . One of the top favourites for honeymoons and family vacations, Mauritius offers immersive experiences and a multi-ethnic culture to visitors from across the world.

Indiansā€™ Love for Mauritius

Most of Mauritiusā€™ present population can trace its lineage back to Indians. In the 19 th century, imperial Britain had made Mauritius one of its overseas colonies, and they routinely brought Indians into the island.

While the ethnographic makeup of Mauritians includes Indian, African, Chinese, Dutch, French, British and other European influences, Indian tourists easily feel at home in this multicultural atmosphere. Even after the independence of Mauritius in 1968, many Indians have continued to travel there for work and even continued their stay on the island.

Politically, Mauritius and India have friendly relations, India being its largest trading partner. The association also extends to defence agreements. Owing to the large Indian-origin population of the country, Mauritius is sometimes referred to as ā€˜mini Indiaā€™.

Indians love Mauritius as a tourist destination because of shared cultural values, the prominence of Hinduism and Islam, similarity in cuisine and also the way of dressing. While a very small portion of Mauritians speak Indian languages, the wide acceptance of English makes it very easy for Indians to converse with the locals who otherwise generally speak French and Mauritian Creole.

The palm-fringed sandy beaches, crystal clear lagoons, volcanic mountains, lush subtropical forests and a coral-rich marine ecosystem also make Mauritius attractive to Indians and the world alike. Nature trails, waterfall hikes and Mauritius diving tours that bring the undersea world alive are other aspects that contribute to this affinity.

Where is Mauritius?

Hidden in the vast Indian Ocean, Mauritius is an island off the south-eastern coast of Africa. This island nation boasts of a subtropical climate, thanks to its position slightly below the equator. The country has its own time zone ā€“ Mauritius Time, denoted by MUT or UTC+4.

About 1,130 km from the bigger South East African island of Madagascar, Mauritius may appear small but is spread over a total area of 2,040 square kilometres. Almost dwarfed by the giant continent of Africa, Mauritius has preserved its indigenous heritage as well as cultures amalgamated over the years from countries that annexed it.

India to Mauritius Map

India to Mauritius Map

India and Mauritius are both located on the Indian Ocean. However, India is a part of Asia while Mauritius is in Africa. Only a few globes and world maps mark Mauritius as it is tiny in comparison to India. To travel from India to Mauritius , one must journey to the south west.

Apart from the island of Mauritius, the eponymous country also includes the nearby islands of AgalƩga, Rodrigues and St. Brandon. Additionally, its ownership of the island of Tromelin and the Chagos Archipelago are disputed.

India to Mauritius Distance

India is approximately 5,828 km away from Mauritius. Thanks to the advent of flights, this distance can be traversed in a matter of a few hours only. Sailing takes a few days at the max. While the physical distance between the two countries runs into thousands of kilometres, their cultural distance is very small, thanks to shared religions, languages, delicacies and even heritage.

Which is Closer to India? Mauritius or Maldives?

It is hard to compare two nations that are so very different in their cultural values, dressing, cuisines, demographics and even natural endowments. Nevertheless, if you must know whether Mauritius is closer to India as compared to The Maldives, the facts will make the answer plain.

India to Maldives is under 2,000 km whereas India to Mauritius is a distance of almost 6,000 km. This makes The Maldives much closer to India. Even in terms of travel time, a direct flight from India to Mauritius takes about 6 hours while one can fly to The Maldives in 4 hours and 30 minutes.

Distance should not be a defining factor in where you should travel though. Mauritius makes up for its longer distance with a more diverse landscape, ranging from volcanic hills and subtropical forests to vegetation-rich plateaus and coral-covered lagoons.

How to Reach Mauritius from India?

As of now, the only way to travel from India to Mauritius is via flight. Cruise is a future possibility, but there are no cruises that currently operate between the two destinations. Also, the great expanse of ocean between the two countries makes it impossible for road trips.

India to Mauritius by Road (Possibility)

India to Mauritius by road is almost unimaginable since the countries are divided by many seas in the Indian Ocean and are themselves located in separate continents. Even if one decides to drive all the way, the hassles of procuring multiple visas (for all the countries that one will have to drive through), getting special permit for border by road (especially for sensitive areas and countries that are not on friendly terms with each other), and ensuring oneā€™s safety in some of the dangerous parts of the route make it prohibitive.

In any case, should you want to fulfil your wild dream of driving from Asia to Africa and then take the sea route from mainland Africa to Mauritius, there are many countries to cross. This route can be impossible for an ordinary Indian passport holder, but if you have a diplomatic passport (maroon in colour) or official passport (while ā€“ for government officials), this adventurous road trip can be quite possible.

After exiting India, you will be crossing the Asian countries of Pakistan, Iran, Iraq, Jordan and Israel. Thereafter, you will enter Africa through Egypt and continue to cross Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania and Mozambique. The sea route will have to be taken to the island nation of Madagascar before crossing its breadth on road and taking another ship to Mauritius, at long last!

India & Mauritiusā€™ Currency

India & Mauritiusā€™ Currency - Accepted Currencies & Conversion Rate

While both India and Mauritius use rupee as their official currency, these two rupees are different from each other. India uses the Indian rupee, denoted by INR, ā‚¹ or Rs, while Mauritius uses the Mauritian rupee, denoted by MUR or Rs. The currency of this African island nation is also called Roupie mauricienne in French and Rupi morisien in Mauritian Creole.

Each Mauritian rupee is divided into 100 cents while each Indian rupee is divided into 100 paise. Mauritian cents are denoted by Ā¢ or MUĀ¢. MUR is available in banknotes of denominations ā‚Ø 25, ā‚Ø 50, ā‚Ø 100, ā‚Ø 200, ā‚Ø 500, ā‚Ø 1000 and ā‚Ø 2000. Coins come in the denominations of 5Ā¢, 20Ā¢, 50Ā¢, ā‚Ø 1, ā‚Ø 5, ā‚Ø 10 and ā‚Ø 20.

Accepted Currencies

Apart from the Mauritian rupee, which is accepted across the country, some hotels in Mauritius occasionally accept payments in USD (United States dollar) or EUR (Euros). However, you will not find favourable rates of exchange if you pay in any foreign currency.

Since both the Mauritian rupee and the Indian rupee are not reserve currencies, you will not be able to convert INR into MUR once you reach Mauritius. Nor will you be able to buy MUR in advance from India.

You will have to carry all your cash in an international reserve currency such as USD, EUR or GBP (pounds). Once you land in Mauritius, you can change some of the foreign currency into MUR at a local money-changer or a bank. Airports generally donā€™t provide favourable rates of exchange even if they have counters that are easily accessible.

At most Mauritian establishments, you will have to pay in the local currency, so ensure you have enough MUR in cash on you. Some places will also accept international credit or debit cards. If you have prepaid for your accommodation and most activities online, then there is no need to carry too much cash.

Average Conversion Rate

To help you budget for your Mauritius vacation, here are some useful currency exchange rates (as of April 2021):

  • 1 MUR = 1.82 INR
  • 1 USD = 73.38 INR
  • 1 USD = 40.40 MUR
  • 1 GBP = 101.48 INR
  • 1 GBP = 55.87 MUR
  • 1 EUR = 86.29 INR
  • 1 EUR = 47.51 MUR

Is USD accepted in Mauritius?

Only a handful of resorts in Mauritius accept USD, even so at an unfavourable rate of exchange. It is best to change your USD into MUR from a trustworthy moneychanger and then pay in the local currency. If using your credit card, know in advance if they will be charging any currency conversion fees, and if yes, how much.

Communication in Mauritius

India to Mauritius Phone Connectivity, Roaming, International SIM Cards

The Republic of Mauritius has 3 telecom companies ā€“ My.t (previously Orange), Emtel and MTML (previously Chili). On the main island of Mauritius, 2G, 3G and 4G connectivity is offered by all the 3 service providers. However, on the outer island of AgalĆ©ga, only My.t and on the island of Rodrigues, only Emtel provides 4G network.

You can buy a local SIM card at the airport itself, rather than waiting to exit the airport and buying one at a convenience store since the SIM activation process is smoother at the airport kiosks. Emtel SIM cards are activated in just an hour while other SIM cards can take up to 3 days. So, if your trip is only for a short duration, pick Emtel over other telecom providers.

You will only need to furnish your passport and ensure your phone is unlocked for the SIM to work. A local Mauritian SIM will cost at least MUR 100 with MUR 87 worth of calling credit and 300 MB data for a week.

For the widest coverage, My.t works best while Emtel is preferable if your data usage is high. In case you decide to go ahead with international roaming on your existing Indian number, you will find free WiFi at most hotels.

International SIM Cards from Indian Airports

Before you even get on the flight to Mauritius, if you wish to pick up a prepaid SIM card from India itself, you can buy a Matrix SIM from their kiosks at the international terminals of most Indian airports.

Matrix offers a postpaid permanent SIM for MUR 999 which can also be delivered at your doorstep. You will get 100 minutes of free calls to India and Mauritius each, apart from 500 MB of free data. You can also get a top up data pack if your internet usage goes beyond 500 MB.

Airtel Call Rates from Mauritius to India

If you have an Airtel number, you can activate the IR pack to get preferential rates on calls and data. Select from various packs that start from INR 649 for one day to INR 3,997 for 30 days. You can get benefits such as up to 5 GB of free data, unlimited incoming calls, 500 minutes of free local and India outgoing calls and 100 free SMSs. Benefits vary as per the pack chosen.

India to Mauritius Phone Code

The international phone code for Mauritius is +230. This must be prefixed to any number that you dial. Cell Phone numbers in the country are 8 digits in length, with the first digit being 5 always. For landline numbers, there are 7 digits in total, with the first digit being 2 for north, 4 for central and 6 for south.

Availability of Indian Cuisine in Mauritius

Availability of Indian Cuisine in Mauritius

Indian cuisine is readily available in Mauritius, as are Indian restaurants. The abundance of citizens with an Indian heritage, even if partial, and the rise of Indian immigrants in Mauritius has ensured the popularity of Indian food in the country.

Even some of the local Mauritian dishes such as biryani , fish curry, roti , chutney and puri are inspired by Indian styles of cooking. If you are curious to try local food, Mauritian cuisine has influences not only from Indian but also African, French, other European and Chinese styles.

Try the French-influenced meat preparations which are braised in red wine, bouillon and rougaille with tuna salad. For Sino-Mauritian foods, donā€™t miss bol renversĆ© (upside down bowl) or magic bowl which is a wholesome meal of rice, chop suey made with Chinese vegetables and seafood, with a poached egg on top.

Vegetarians will find plenty of dishes at Indian restaurants while also being able to choose some items from Mauritian cuisine. Tofu boulettes (dumplings), dholl puri , gateau dhal (chilli cakes) and sept cari (7 curries ā€“ a full meal served on a banana leaf) are some local vegetarian specialities that you will love.

Respect to Mauritiusā€™ Culture & Sentiments

Respect to Mauritiusā€™ Culture & Sentiments

While the nation is multicultural at heart, Hinduism has a deep influence on Mauritiusā€™ history & culture . The tenets of this religion are followed even to the point of abstaining from beef and other cow products such as leather sometimes. Also, Islamic laws are followed which ban the consumption of pork.

What to Do and What Not To

Common etiquette in Mauritius:

  • Leave your footwear outside when visiting temples or mosques. Additionally, one should dress conservatively, with their legs and shoulders covered, even when visiting churches. See-through fabrics are also frowned upon.
  • Mauritians are mainly Hindus, Christians and Muslims, apart from other minority groups. To avoid offending your tour guide or host, do not insist on ordering beef or pork.
  • Do not smoke in public places. Also, alcoholic drinks should only be consumed inside resorts, restaurants or bars. Drinking in public is not allowed.
  • Topless bathing is banned in the public beaches of Mauritius. You should book a private villa with your own patch of private beach or a pool to go topless.
  • Remember to greet the hotel staff, cab drivers and anyone who assists you, as social etiquette is almost a norm. French greetings are widely understood, but English will do just fine if you donā€™t speak French.
  • If not using cutlery, use only your right hand to eat, especially when trying Indian food.

It is recommended to dress modestly in Mauritius, whether you are at the beach or visiting a religious place of worship. The subtropical weather is very pleasant, and allows you to wear more than just summer clothes such as shorts, skirts, dresses and light, cotton tees and blouses. Accessorize with scarves and some layering.

If you will go hiking in Mauritius , donā€™t forget to wear trek pants with sweat-wicking shirts that have a collar to protect you from sunburns. Revealing swimwear is better worn at private resorts and the swimming pools of hotels, not at the public beaches.

What to Carry

The best time to visit Mauritius is between May and December. Mauritiusā€™ weather is not only sunny and dry but also cool at this time, making it ideal for sightseeing, chilling at the beach or going on a hike. Carry a mild sunscreen lotion to protect your skin while you are out.

Comfortable walking shoes that have a grip good enough for basic treks will work well for both mountain hikes and city sightseeing. When travelling in the wet season, carry a raincoat or an umbrella, so you can explore and not have to be stuck at your hotel.

Make sure you have a good mix of cotton (for the outdoors) and lycra (for swimming) in your bag. A pair of flip flops will be great for both lounging at your resort and strolling at the beach. Bring a cap along for the hikes, and a large hat for the beach.

Things to Note if Travelling with Kids

Mauritius tour packages from India are great for those travelling with their children. The country is very safe for kids. Here is more help:

  • Most Mauritius resorts have a shallow baby pool for your little ones to frolic in while you take a swim in the main pool with your spouse.
  • Hotels usually have a dedicated space for toddlers to enjoy where the staff are well trained to babysit. Leave your children in the care of these professionals while you go clubbing or for a relaxing spa session.
  • Mauritius has child-safe water sports activities which can be enjoyed by both the adults and the kids. Take your babies on a submarine ride, a glass-bottom boat tour or snorkelling in a shallow lagoon.
  • Sunscreen should always be reapplied after every few hours when you are with your children at the beach for long. Also remember to keep them hydrated with juices or coconut water.

Activities & Things to Do

Activities and Things to do in Mauritius

A well rounded trip will have a good mix of adventurous and relaxing things on the itinerary. If you are on a long holiday, choose from multiple activities to do in Mauritius :

National Park Safaris

Mauritius has no lack of nature reserves and protected forests, with Black River Gorges National Park at its helm. Safaris are not restricted to wooded environments. Even amusement parks such as Casela World of Adventures and La Vanille Nature Park offer interactive safaris that let you watch white tigers, crocodiles and giant tortoises.

See the Waterfalls

Mauritius is blessed with many breathtaking waterfalls and visitors must see at least a few of them. Tamarind Falls is a gorgeous set of 7 cascading waterfalls called ā€˜Sept Cascadesā€™, excellent for canyoning, while Exil Waterfalls hidden in the Combo Forest is great for rappelling.

There are plenty of water sports to indulge in while vacationing on this island. Mauritius diving tours are more popular in November and May when the chances of spotting marine life increase manifold. Home to many dive sites, the undersea world here has abundant reefs, vibrant corals and fishes in an array of patterns. Coin de Mire and Trou-aux-Biches are popular dive sites for their visibility, marine life forms and wrecks.

Visit the Beaches

How can one ignore the beaches when in a subtropical island paradise like Mauritius! There is a beach for every type of activity that you might be interested in. Go to Flic En Flac for water sports, Le Morne for golfing, Tamarin for dolphin spotting and Grand Baie for fishing.

Wine & Rum Tasting

While one often hears of wine tours, Mauritius goes a step further with its rum tours. Sip on litchi wine at Takamaka Winery or get to know some of the delicious rums at Rhumerie de Chamarel. You can even order lunch at ChĆ¢teau de Labourdonnais while sampling their rums and cocktails.

Catamaran Sailing

Catamaran tours are very flexible when it comes to how long you can sail. Choose packages that let you hop from one island to another and explore more of Mauritius than you could have without this option of cruising. Admire the indigenous flora and fauna in the daytime and relish the feeling of spending the night at sea.

Helicopter Rides

While helicopter tours are not very pocket-friendly, they definitely offer you a perspective that no ordinary luxurious experience can. Get a birdā€™s eye view of Mauritiusā€™ sugarcane fields, coralline lagoons, and rock formations. Some seaplane tours even let you see the countryā€™s unique underwater waterfall.

One can also club the helicopter ride with a skydive for an extra fee. However, you will have to meet the fitness criteria and undergo a basic training, even for tandem skydiving. This adrenaline-pumping activity will be even more surreal with Mauritiusā€™ jaw-dropping coastline and sublime beauty to admire from the top!

What to do in Mauritius for Honeymoon

Mauritius honeymoon packages from India can only give you choices, but you will still have to decide what activities you want to do when on your honeymoon. A romantic sunset cruise in a catamaran, bathing with your spouse in Chamarel Waterfallā€™s natural pool and kayaking as a couple are just the beginning. Options galore for honeymooners!

What to do in Mauritius with Family

Quite a few Mauritius day tours are designed to entertain the entire family, regardless of the age of the family members. Watch a sega dance performance, visit a tea plantation and even sip on some aromatic tea, or stroll through a botanical garden. These activities are well paced to keep your toddlers entertained while the elderly can enjoy without stressing themselves.

What to do in Mauritius on a Budget

It may seem that Mauritius is all about expensive resorts and fancy restaurants. However, guest houses in Mauritius offer the budget traveller a sweet surprise. These affordable options for accommodation sometimes also have a swimming pool and a restaurant with reasonable pricing. Local buses will get you around without the hefty sum charged by taxis. Hiking, sitting at the beach and many other activities are essentially free in Mauritius.

What to do in Mauritius for Non Swimmers

Just because Mauritius is surrounded by the Indian Ocean doesnā€™t mean you cannot enjoy anything if you canā€™t swim. Go undersea walking, jet skiing, trek up a dormant volcano or just stroll through the markets looking for mementos to take back home. Even snorkelling can be done if you are not a swimmer. Just follow the instructions of your guide.

Travelling all the way from India to Mauritius will be well worth the time when you discover what a wonderful place this East African island is. Find out first hand why the world loves to vacation here. Book your holiday soon to get the best deals.
