10 Things We Want From Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 3

Walter koenig interview: star trek the original series & the 7th rule podcast, 8 star trek: discovery things to know before season 5.

  • Star Trek fans have a lot to look forward to in 2024, with virtual and in-person conventions, Star Trek Day, podcasts, and new series announcements.
  • Despite uncertainties, the production of Star Trek: Section 31 and Lower Decks Season 5 are progressing smoothly.
  • The final season of Star Trek: Discovery is set to premiere in April 2024, marking the end of Captain Burnham's voyages.

Star Trek has a big 2024 on tap, and here are 8 things to look forward to from the final frontier this year. Although the dual WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes halted Hollywood production and the ability of talent and creatives to promote their work for much of 2023, Star Trek had a phenomenal year. Star Trek: Picard season 3, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 2, and Star Trek: Lower Decks season 4 released a cumulative 30 episodes, were highly acclaimed as some of the most innovative Star Trek in years, and many episodes charted in the Nielsen streaming Top 10. All in all, 2023 was a great year to be a Star Trek fan.

Significant questions loom over Star Trek in 2024, however. Paramount may be up for sale, which would certainly impact Star Trek on Paramount+'s various series and projects. There remains no new Star Trek theatrical movie in development, going on 8 years since Star Trek Beyond hit theaters in the summer of 2016. And there is no indication that Paramount+ will greenlight Star Trek: Picard 's proposed spinoff, Star Trek: Legacy , in spite of the same type of dedicated fan campaign that helped Star Trek: Prodigy jump to Netflix after it was canceled by Paramount+. The WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes also delayed production of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3, which likely won't premiere until 2025. Still, Star Trek has a massive 2024 planned , and here are 8 things for fans to be excited about.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3 is in production now, and hopefully the next 10 episodes will deliver on these storylines and plot threads.

8 Star Trek Has Amazing Podcasts

The 7th rule, the shuttlepod show, inglorious treksperts, the delta flyers, and more.

Star Trek has podcasts to satisfy every type of fan , and they're available to watch on YouTube or stream wherever you get your podcasts. Walter Koenig joins The 7th Rule with Cirroc Lofton and Ryan T. Husk to discuss his episodes of Star Trek: The Original Series. The Delta Flyers: Through The Wormhole added Terry Farrell and Armin Shimerman, who join Star Trek: Voyager 's Garrett Wang and Robert Duncan McNeill to review episodes of Star Trek: Deep Space Nin e. Inglorious Treksperts hosts Mark A. Altman and Daren Dochterman continue their unrivaled expertise of classic Star Trek with podcasts and live panel shows. Sadly, The Shuttlepod Show 's co-host Dominic Keating has left the podcast, but hosts and producers Connor Trinneer, Erica LaRose, and Mark J. Cartier will continue to dive deep into the lives and careers of their illustrious Star Trek guests. Star Trek fans have a wealth of podcasts to enjoy in 2024, with new episodes weekly.

Screen Rant interviews Walter Koenig about his joining The 7th Rule podcast to review Star Trek: The Original Series, his Trek memories, and more.

7 Star Trek Virtual & In-Person Conventions

Trektalks, virtual trek con 5, the llapy awards, stlv, and more.

Star Trek has a connection to its fans unlike any other in entertainment, and thanks to the various Star Trek conventions, both virtual and in-person, Star Trek fans have the privilege and ability to meet and hear from their favorite talent and creatives. Star Trek essentially pioneered the fan convention and 2024 kicks off with two huge virtual events: TrekTalks 3 , hosted by John Billingsley of Star Trek: Enterprise and Bonnie Gordon of Star Trek: Prodigy, streams live on YouTube on January 13th with a full day of panels featuring over 30 Star Trek guests, all to benefit the Hollywood Food Coalition. TrekTalks 3 will also feature a can't-miss Star Trek: Picard season 3 panel.

Virtual Trek Con 5 , from Cirroc Lofton of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine , Ryan T. Husk, and The 7th Rule podcast, streams on YouTube from February 15-19 with 4 days of Star Trek panels with numerous special guests. VTC5 is capped off by the 3rd annual LLAPy Awards , the only Star Trek awards show voted on by fans , which streams live on YouTube on Sunday, February 19. For in-person Star Trek cons, two of the biggest are Creation Entertainments ST:SF in San Francisco in March and STLV: Trek to Vegas in Las Vegas in August, both featuring dozens of Star Trek talent. And, with no strikes this year, Star Trek on Paramount+ will no doubt return once again with huge panels at San Diego Comic-Con in July and New York Comic-Con in October.

6 Star Trek Day 2024

Star trek celebrates the franchise in person again.

2023 sadly saw Paramount+'s annual in-person Star Trek Day event canceled because of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Since 2021, Star Trek Day has been a celebration of the franchise bringing together talent and creatives from Star Trek on Paramount+'s series and Star Trek 's legacy shows and films. Held at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles and streamed on Paramount+ and Star Trek 's social channels, Star Trek Day is expected to return in September 2024, with a likely agenda of honoring the departing Star Trek: Discovery and looking ahead to Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3 and more.

Screen Rant was on the red carpet for Star Trek Day 2022 .

5 Star Trek: Starfleet Academy Announcements

Expect information about the newest star trek series.

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy was announced by Paramount+ in April 2023, and nothing more is known about the newest upcoming Star Trek series besides the fact that Star Trek executive producer Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau ( Nancy Drew ) are the showrunners, and the writers' room includes Tawny Newsome of Star Trek: Lower Decks . 2024 should finally see more information about Starfleet Academy, which will hopefully announce the actors/characters of the show, and perhaps even confirm that Starfleet Academy is set after Star Trek: Discovery season 5 , as expected.

4 Star Trek: Section 31

Star trek's first made-for-streaming movie..

Announced in April 2023, Star Trek: Section 31 finally begins production from January to March in Toronto for a possible release in late 2024. Section 31 stars Academy Award-winner Michelle Yeoh , who reprises her Star Trek: Discovery anti-hero, Emperor Michelle Georgiou, and Yeoh used her clout from her Best Actress Oscar to ensure Section 31 is made. Star Trek: Section 31 is directed by Olutande Osunsanmi and written by Craig Sweeny, but nothing else is known about the first Star Trek movie made exclusively to stream on Paramount+ . Section 31 's potential success could lead to the plan for a new Star Trek streaming movie every 2 years to come to fruition. Even if Star Trek: Section 31 doesn't premiere in 2024, fans should at least finally learn what other characters are in the movie and what era of Star Trek Section 31 is set in.

3 Star Trek: Lower Decks Season 5

Premieres in 2024 on paramount+..

Star Trek: Lower Decks season 4 may have been the animated comedy's best season yet, and hopes are high that Star Trek: Lower Decks season 5 will top it. The SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes didn't affect the production of the animated series, and Star Trek: Lower Decks was able to complete its scripts, with 10 new episodes in production for the show's traditional late summer/early fall release date on Paramount+. Little is known about the stories planned for Star Trek: Lower Decks season 5 and the newly-minuted junior Lieutenants of the USS Cerritos, except that there will be more exploration of the Orion culture through the eyes of former Lt. D'Vana Tendi (Noel Wells). And while there are fears that season 5 could be the last for Star Trek: Lower Decks, hopefully, the 2023 crossover with Star Trek: Strange New Worlds created more fans of Lower Decks, and creator Mike McMahan's hilarious animated show can continue for years to come.

2 Star Trek: Discovery Season 5 - The Final Season

Premieres april 2024 on paramount+..

The only live-action Star Trek series on Paramount+'s 2024 schedule, Star Trek: Discovery season 5 is the final season marking the end of the voyages of Captain Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) and the USS Discovery. It was Star Trek: Discovery' s success on CBS All-Access, which became Paramount+, that led to Star Trek 's current TV renaissance. Although Discovery season 5 was not originally planned as the final season, following Paramount+ canceling the series in March 2023, reshoots were completed to turn Discovery 's season 5 finale into a proper ending for the entire series . Star Trek: Discovery season 5 is also a shift in tone to an Indiana Jones -like intergalactic treasure hunt adventure, according to Jonathan Frakes, who directs the penultimate episode of Discovery . Premiering in April 2024, Star Trek: Discovery will be the Star Trek event on Paramount+.

Star Trek: Discovery returns for season 5 in 2024 after a 2-year hiatus, and here's what you need to know about Captain Burnham's final adventures.

1 Star Trek: Prodigy Season 2

Premieres in 2024 on netflix.

With a huge global audience discovering the all-ages animated series on Netflix, Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 is possibly the most anticipated Star Trek event of 2024 . Netflix premiered Star Trek: Prodigy season 1 on Christmas Day, priming viewers new and old for 20 all-new Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 episodes from creators and showrunners Kevin and Dan Hageman and their team. Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 promises to go even bigger than season 1's high stakes, taking Admiral Kathryn Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) and the young ragtag former crew of the USS Protostar into an alternate 25th-century future and beyond. Star Trek: Prodigy season 2's massive scope will reportedly touch upon the entire Star Trek franchise, and the already-announced new castmember The Doctor (Robert Picardo) as well as the new USS Voyager-A are only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the surprises, fun, and adventure Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 has in store.

Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Lower Decks are streaming on Paramount+. Star Trek: Prodigy is streaming on Netflix.

Creation Brings Back Regional Star Trek Conventions Starting In San Francisco This Weekend, Chicago In Fall

| March 5, 2024 | By: Anthony Pascale 25 comments so far

Creation Entertainment has been running Star Trek conventions since its founding in the 1970s. At its peak in the ’80s, Creation was operating over 100 Trek cons every year all across the USA. That number was pared down until the most recent decade when they focused on a single big Star Trek con every year in Las Vegas, but that is all about to change.

In 2024, Creation is returning to regional events for what they are now calling the “Trek Tour,” starting with the “ STSF: Trek To San Francisco ” convention from Friday, March 8 to Sunday, March 10 at the Hyatt Regency in Burlingame, CA. TrekMovie talked to Creation co-founder Gary Berman about the San Francisco event, this year’s big Las Vegas con, and more regional “Trek Tour” cons across the USA coming up.

Trek to San Francisco

For years, Creation has been looking to bring back local Trek conventions. Berman told TrekMovie: “We wanted to bring the best of Las Vegas to these regional cities.” It’s been years since Creation held a Star Trek con in San Francisco, but the company has continued to run other conventions there, like one for Vampire Diaries fans. This weekend’s STSF con is being held in the same location, which was used in the past for Trek conventions as well. “It’s a nice hotel for this, very cool and futuristic-looking,” says Berman.

STSF has lined up 32 guests for this weekend from across the Star Trek franchise, including classic headliners like Brent Spiner, John de Lancie, and Gates McFadden from Star Trek: The Next Generation , Jeri Ryan and Robert Picardo from  Voyager , Dominic Keating and Connor Trinneer from Enterprise , and Jeffrey Combs and Casey Biggs from Deep Space Nine . They are also bringing in luminaries from the new shows, including Michelle Hurd and Todd Stashwick from Picard and Tawny Newsome, Eugene Cordero, and Dawnn Lewis from Lower Decks . There are also big names from behind the scenes, including Picard showrunner Terry Matalas and production designer Dave Blass. Melissa Navia from Strange New Worlds will be there, but Ethan Peck just had to cancel as he was needed on the set in Toronto. Berman said they expect to have more Strange New Worlds stars at upcoming events when the show isn’t in production.

Hey San Francisco! I will be joining @JeriLRyan @TerryMatalas and my other #StarTrek Family this weekend at ST:SF Trek to San Francisco https://t.co/H7u22BubvQ pic.twitter.com/kSE2NOXq4t — Todd Stashwick (@ToddStashwick) March 4, 2024

The regional events are designed to be more intimate than the bigger show in Las Vegas. The goal is for STSF and other regional Trek Tour cons to have the celebrity guests be “interactive with the audience and make it more fun for the fans,” according to Berman. This will include special events like wine tasting with Casey Biggs, karaoke with Dominic Keating and Connor Trinneer, and an after-party on Saturday night at the Holo Lounge bar with Prodigy’s Bonnie Gordon singing jazz. Gordon is co-hosting the weekend along with Ryan Husk of The 7th Rule podcast. Gordon and Husk are also hosting a welcome party on Thursday. Husk tells TrekMovie: “I think the intimacy and special events of this new regional convention tour is going to be incredibly fun, and I’m extremely excited for it.”

The convention will also feature a vendors room, science panels, Trek insider panels (including 2 with Ande Richardson Kindryd, TOS producer Gene Coon’s assistant), trivia contests, daily cosplaying themes, and a cosplay contest. Of course, there are also autograph and photo ops. There will be group options, including one themed to Star Trek: Picard season 3 with Brent Spiner, Gates McFadden, Jeri Ryan, Michelle Hurd, and Terry Matalas.

STSF is expected to sell out, but there are still limited tickets available ranging from weekend General Admission passes for $169 to Gold passes (starting at $549) with reserved seating, autographs, and more bonuses. There are also single-day passes ($60) with only a handful left for Saturday. Berman is enthusiastic about the return to San Francisco for Trek and he offers his thanks to the fans, saying “I think we’re all feeling super appreciative to everyone for supporting San Francisco.” Tickets are also available for the Saturday night “Rat Pack” concert with Max Grodénchik, Jeffrey Combs, Casey Biggs, Ethan Phillips, and Vaughn Armstrong.

For more details on STSF or to buy tickets, visit creationent.com . There are also still rooms available at the Hyatt Regency SFO .

Revamped Rio for STLV 2024

The next stop for the Trek Tour in 2024 will be the big event in Las Vegas, now officially dubbed “STLV,” with Creation dropping the “58-Year Mission” branding. The event will be held August 1-4 at the Rio in Las Vegas. They have already lined up 39 guests. with headliners including William Shatner, Kate Mulgrew, Nana Visitor, Tawny Newsome, Connor Trinneer, Paul Wesley, and Ethan Peck. Many more are expected to be added to match last year’s count of over 100 guests. They are already setting up some special events including a “Broadway to the Stars” show with Discovery  stars Anthony Rapp and Wilson Cruz.

One highlight for 2024 will be the venue itself, as the Rio Hotel is under new management. New owners Dreamscape have partnered with Hyatt, making the Rio part of the World of Hyatt. The Rio is currently undergoing extensive renovations . The first phase of the $340 million transformation will be completed this year and includes upgrades to the exterior, lobby, pool area, casino, and dining options . They are also upgrading the rooms in the 1,501-room Ipanema tower. “The renovation is turning out to be much better and bigger than I originally thought,” says Gary Berman. Dreamscape has also added more staff to accommodate large groups like STLV. Berman says Creation has a “great relationship” with the new owners who see “STLV as important to the Rio,” with plans to keep STLV at the Rio in upcoming years.

Even though it is months away, Berman says tickets are selling fast. For more on STLV 2024, visit creationent.com .

Trek Tour heads to Chicago and beyond

It is the success of STLV that has Creation looking beyond Las Vegas again. Berman tells TrekMovie “Attendance was wonderful last year and the feedback was excellent. That is one of the reasons San Francisco is going so well is word of mouth.” With San Francisco looking to be a sellout, Creation is setting its sights on the future. “Our goal is to roll out a whole tour and do 12 Trek Tour shows a year, like we do for Supernatural .”

Berman revealed the next stop on that tour will be in Chicago. They have already lined up October 25-27, 2024 for an event at the Westin O’Hare Hotel. [ UPDATE: Due to conflicts with wanted celebrities on the weekend of October 25, Creation will be moving the Chicago event to a different date. A new date for Chicago will be announced soon.]

The 2024 Chicago Trek Tour should be launched on their website after the STSF with the initial list of guests and events. According to Berman, they will be looking for lessons learned in San Francisco t help shape this next regional event.

Even though Creation gave up the official Star Trek convention license in 2020, they remain committed to the franchise that got the company started in the 1970s. Berman sums things up with “We are really happy with the state of Star Trek fan conventions.”

So looking forward to attending!

FYI to anyone who is going/planning to go: I along with some other local fans who also collect video and pinball games will be bringing some of our personally-owned Star Trek-themed games to this Convention. If all goes right, we should have all 4 of the Star Trek pinball machines that have been released (going back to 1979) as well as 2 versions of a retro Star Trek video game that was produced by Sega as a coin-operated game in 1982. Again, these are full-sized, coin-operated machines, but for the Convention, they will be set up for free play (no quarters needed!). The organizers are also planning on a charity event with some of the celebrity guests playing on the games with the winner having a donation to his/her favorite charity.

AFAIK, this will be the first time for this type of related event to take place at one of these Conventions, and we’re happy to participate to make it happen certainly.

Hope to see folks there starting on this Friday!

That sounds awesome. I’m in the Bay Area so I’ll b there!

That sounds so fun! I love pinball!!!! Star Trek pinball!!! Any chance this can also happen in Vegas?

Actually, the organizers did ask us if we’d be willing to do this event at the Vegas show (in an even bigger way to bring other retro/pinball games based not only on Star Trek, but other SciFi/fantasy franchises (e.g., Star Wars, Twilight Zone, Indiana Jones, Tron, Jurassic Park, etc.), but we had to decline at this time.

In truth, we’d actually love to do this but the logistics made it not doable as we also organize a local event each summer (this will be our 28th year now!) that involves literally hundreds of these types of games (pinball, video, etc.) spanning decades from the past to the present. But our show is set for the weekend just before the Vegas show so doing all we need to do to make our show happen and then turning around and trucking loads of these games from the SF/Bay Area to Vegas is just not viable, remembering just how large (and heavy) each and every game is. To have to load/unload a whole kit and caboodle of these games, set them up, maintain them, and then turn around and head home is again just too much for us all given we will have done much the same the weekend prior. Trust me, it’s a TON of work each time and while it’s also very much a labor of love for all us involved, it’s also very exhausting :) .

But hey, if you’re in the SF/Bay Area this summer for the very last weekend of July (7/27 & 7/28), we’ll be holding our crazy show (called “California Extreme”) on these dates if you feel inclined to attend. As I said, literally hundreds of pinballs and stand up video arcade games will be there, ranging from the past to the present, all set on free play (once you pay an admission fee) for you to enjoy until your fingers fall off or your wrists give out ;) .

Information on our very basic website here:

http://www.caextreme.org

That sounds incredibly fun. Sad it doesn’t work out with my location and life… but maybe one day! I was a big pinball kid. I actually worked at a video arcade as a teenager, although I confess that was a very annoying job as there were 12-year-olds begging me for quarters and cigarettes all day!

Thanks for the heads-up on this. I may attend!

San Francisco?!?! FINALLY a con in my back yard! I’m SOOOO there!

Perhaps hang around the elevator lobby at night — that’s where I ran into Frakes at at Trek convention at this same Hyatt about 8-9 years ago — and he stood and talked with me for about 10 minutes! The hotel set-up there is very conducive to running into the guests.

This makes me very happy. Hopefully they’ll do something out here on the east coast. I remember going to their previous small creation conventions in New Jersey, New York and Philadelphia.

I wonder if Creation can get the license back since Mission doesn’t seem to be doing anything with it.

Any chance of making it back to the east coast, PA or NJ? The local cons stopped happening just as we were gearing up to go!

I would consider one in the Philly/NJ area. Haven’t been to one in about 30 years, that one was in Atlantic City.

If only this came closer to Little Rock.

My first and so far only convention was in my hometown of Phoenix, AZ during the final season of TNG, before it was announced it would be the final season. There was only one guest, Brent Spiner. It was all in one big convention room in some hotel. I remember being in middle school, waiting in line with my dad, the tables of merch of all sorts in the main area, the big stage where as a kid I won the trivia contest, the really cool costume contest where the winner was a Borg (this is before cosplay took off because of the Internet), and then everyone sitting and watching Measure of a Man together before Spiner came out and answered questions and shook hands. I asked him what it was like to work with Spot (not great, he replied). He took questions about the possible end of the show, whether a movie might happen, whether he thought Data fired the gun at Kivas Fajo (yes), and someone even asked him why the Federation doesn’t have a cloaking device (his response: “I don’t know who to ask, maybe an Admiral?”)

It was such a fun, intimate experience, just to be surrounded with like-minded people who enjoy the same things I enjoy. It was a good time when the conventions were hyperlocal like that. Now it’s all so concentrated and consolidated and expensive that a kid like me wouldn’t be able to go to something like STLV and enjoy themselves. There are so many tiers of ticket and so much guarded access to the actors, and you have to have as many people as possible there.

I love that Creation might be going back to local conventions again. I hope they do more. I hope they are able to just do small 1-day affairs with 1 or 2 actors only. It really was enough for me to meet Data back then. It was everything.

Anyhoo, just sharing the memories.

Such a great story! I never been to a conversation before so always great to hear others. Thank you for sharing my friend! 🙂

And since you mentioned Spot there is an hilarious video on YouTube of Spiner at a convention a few years ago going off how much he hated working with the Spot cats and how hard it was to get them to do anything. It had me roling. 😂

So glad to see it’s coming back to the Bay!

Tickets for a stay at Hyatt are officially booked!

This looks amazing! We -loved- MISSION CHICAGO, the last headline TREK event in the Chicago area, back in 2022. Beyond excited about this news.

Hey Creation, let us know when you’re coming back to the Washington DC area for a Star Trek convention. Haven’t seen you here (for myself) since 1983.

I’ve been to only one convention, in February 1975, at a hotel in NYC. I don’t remember much, except that Gene Roddenberry announced there that he had a deal with Paramomount to make a Star Trek movie (and yes, it was almost more 5 years until it came out) and they screened a full restored version of The Cage for the first time, in black and white. I think they also screened a few TOS episodes in color.

Wow! If you’ve only been to one, that’s a pretty good one to have been at.

I’ll be there. But the Creation website is a cluttered mess that looks like it was designed by Pakleds. The schedule? a Google spreadsheet that’s super fun to look at on your iPhone with all the scrolling left right you have to do to even read it. Want to buy general admission tickets? Wander around in frustration until you piece together that maybe, just maybe, you can’t even buy those online and only at the door. Boomers and the Interwebs don’t mix. Boomers, stay away from pretty much everything. It’s 2024. You are not equipped and can’t learn “new” things. Enjoy your Jell-O and Matlock.

They rely on some volunteers, and it’s never been a big money maker for those involved. I didn’t have a problem navigating it. What’s the big deal?

As for General Admission passes, click on the HUGE BUTTON on the main page that says ADMISSION PASSES and then click on the multi-day or single-day general admission icon. Easy-peesy.

Thanks for tip. Got my tix. That “huge button” is the same headline art that on other pages is not a clickable button. The site is a mess. Grateful for your help.

You do know that Boomers invented the Internet (as DarpaNet in 1969) and the Web in 1989 right?

This sounds lovely to attend. Would love to see a lot of the casts from DS9, ENT, TNG and VOY again but Stashwick would be the biggest delight. Seen him in a lot of interviews and he’s so fun to listen to.

I really hope he can be part of Star Trek again in any form.

Star Trek Beyond Live

Acclaimed by critics and fans alike, Star Trek Beyond is the third installment in the revolutionary franchise reboot by J.J. Abrams. Masterfully directed by Justin Lin,  Star Trek Beyond was universally hailed as an epic sci-fi adventure that honors the series' roots while delivering the mind-blowing action expected of today’s hottest movie blockbusters. And its soaring new orchestral score by Oscar®-winning composer Michael Giacchino not only breaks new ground, but also reprises many of the beloved musical themes he created for the prior two Star Trek installments.

STAR TREK BEYOND

Three years into their five-year mission, the crew of the USS Enterprise is feeling the pressure of a lengthy assignment in deep space. After a brief respite on the enormous space station Yorktown , Kirk volunteers them for a rescue mission in a nearby uncharted nebula. The distress call quickly turns into a devastating surprise attack from a swarm of killer spacecraft commanded by the fearsome warlord Krall, who seeks the abronath - an ancient relic housed in the Enterprise’s vast archives that is the key to unleashing an unstoppable bioweapon capable of destroying the entire Federation. With the help of Jaylah, a resourceful scavenger and herself an escapee of Krall’s prison, Kirk and his crew struggle to warn the Yorktown of its impending destruction before Krall and his swarm of killer ships can overtake the massive space station and launch his doomsday weapon.

  • Aug 1 - 4, 2024

The year 2021 marks the 50th Anniversary of Creation Entertainment, the 55th Anniversary of Star Trek, the 20th Anniversary of our convention in Las Vegas, Gene Roddenberry’s 100th birthday year and William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy's 90th birthday years. It’s the perfect time to celebrate and no city is better than Las Vegas to do just that!

With over 100 celebrity guests, we'll have multiple tracks of non-stop programming, contests, music, cosplay and surprises, plus partying galore. We’ll immerse our attendees into the positive and loving atmosphere with thousands of other fans, as we all celebrate Gene Roddenberry’s legacy.

For 50 years, we’ve been proud to present convention gatherings for our fellow fans in North America. It’s been a wonderful ride that allowed us to enjoy our love of the genre with others who share that passion. We’ve tried to follow the beliefs of our mentor Gene Roddenberry by creating events that present a positive view of the future celebrating diversity and inclusiveness. We hope you join us in Las Vegas as the human adventure continues.

Creation Entertainment proudly presents THE 55-YEAR MISSION TOUR CONVENTION on August 11-15, 2021 at the Rio All-Suites Hotel and Convention Center.

There are three types of vendor spaces available at the convention for all five days of the event and preview night.

The Star Trek Las Vegas convention has been postponed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Creation Entertainment, the organizers of the convention, announced yesterday that the event, which was scheduled for December 9-13, 2020, will now take place August 11-15, 2021, at the Rio All-Suites Resort Hotel and Casino.

As the decades past for our company we’ve taken our experiences to provide what we believe is the absolute best presentation for fans. Unlike so many other genre conventions, Creation Entertainment has a strict policy not to "oversell" our conventions. In other words, every patron, no matter what bracket of ticket they purchase, will have a seat in the main auditorium where the major guests appear and events take place. Because of this process of not overselling we have a huge vendors room where it is possible to easily check out each booth without fighting seam-busting crowds.

Luke Bryan’s Farm Tour to Return for 15th Year in 2024

by Em Casalena May 6, 2024, 9:47 am

Between serving as one of American Idol ’s judges and touring throughout the last year, country star Luke Bryan has been quite a busy guy. And it looks like he’s going to be even busier come September of this year. The “Country Girl” singer/songwriter just announced the 15th iteration of his Farm Tour , where Bryan will hit the road for a short tour across North Carolina, Kentucky, Ohio, and Pennsylvania to perform for and honor American farmers.

Videos by American Songwriter

Bryan isn’t going to kick off the trek alone, either. He’ll be bringing along Conner Smith, Tucker Wetmore, The Peach Pickers (with Rodney Clawson), and DJ Rock for the brief tour. Bryan has noted on his website that the tour “will happen rain or shine.”

The first stop on the Luke Bryan 2024 Farm Tour will be in Marshville, North Carolina on September 21 at Huggins Store. The tour will end after four dates on September 28 in Smithton, Pennsylvania at Cunningham Family Farm. More tour dates might be added soon, so keep an eye out!

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Luke Bryan Official (@lukebryan)

Fans can get presale tickets today at 10:00 am EST. Sign up for the Nut House Club via Bryan’s website to get in on the presale event. Tickets will also be available for general sale through Bryan’s website on May 9 at 10:00 am local.

If you missed out on tickets during the presale event, you might have some luck over at Stubhub once general on-sale kicks off. Stubhub often has some inventory for concerts that have sold out, especially for highly-anticipated tours like this one. Give it a shot!

This is going to be a very special tour for those who support our great American farmers. Get your tickets ASAP!

Madonna Brings Massive Free Concert to Rio, Capping Celebration Tour

The pop superstar performed a final date on her global trek marking four decades of hits: a set on Copacabana Beach before the largest live crowd of her career.

A blond woman in a corset is visible on a large screen at a concert, while a crowd is seen before her, and other screens display a grid of black-and-white photos of faces.

By Flávia Milhorance and Julia Jacobs

Reporting from Rio de Janeiro and New York

When Madonna stepped out onto the mammoth stage constructed on Rio de Janeiro’s Copacabana Beach on Saturday night in a gleaming halo headpiece and black kimono, she was greeted by the largest live crowd of her four-decade career.

The free show, announced in late March, was a grand finale to the pop superstar’s latest world tour, which has delivered 80 performances since last October . Without ticket data, concert crowd sizes can be difficult to gauge; Riotur, the municipality’s tourism department, estimated that 1.6 million people flooded onto the 2.4-mile stretch of sand on Saturday that had been turned into a roughly $12 million playground surrounding the 8,700-square-foot stage.

It was the culmination of days of Madonna-mania in the city, where talk of the singer, 65, was inescapable. Her songs spilled out of stores and car stereos. Fans assembled outside her hotel and shouted her name. Updates about the concert, which was broadcast on the network Globo TV, dominated local media reports.

The spectacle in Rio was a milestone in Madonna’s career: the victory lap for her first stage retrospective, called the Celebration Tour , in which she chronicled her rise to stardom, performing hits like “Into the Groove,” “Like a Prayer” and “Ray of Light” with a cadre of dancers, four of her six children, and a wardrobe of elaborate costuming that recalled some of her most memorable looks.

“Here we are, the most beautiful place in the world,” Madonna announced early in the concert, indicating the ocean and the mountains around her. “This is magic.” Later, she expounded on her gratitude for her Brazilian fans. “You have always been there for me,” she said. “That flag: that green-and-yellow flag, I see it everywhere. I feel it in my heart.”

The two-plus-hour Rio show hewed closely to the Celebration show, with a few exceptions: Madonna added her 2000 track “Music” to the set list, rearranged as a samba with live drummers and a special guest, the Brazilian drag star Pabllo Vittar. “Live to Tell,” staged as a tribute to victims of AIDS , included photographs of the Brazilian musicians Cazuza and Renato Russo, and the actress Sandra Bréa. For “Vogue,” Madonna appeared in a sparkly dress in the colors of the Brazilian flag and was joined by the pop sensation Anitta , who helped “judge” the competitors strutting down the runway.

The show had lifelong Madonna fans — many of whom came dressed in homage to their heroine in cone bras and lace gloves — screaming and dancing along. Ernesto Magalhães, 42, adorned in the style of Madonna’s “Material Girl” era in a gown and boa while balancing on stilts, epitomized the exuberant spirit of the occasion: “I’ve been a Madonna fan since I was 8; I couldn’t miss this.” Surya Rossi, a 31-year-old illustrator, decided on a last-minute trip from Rio Claro, São Paulo, after coordinating with her cousin, and stayed with friends. “Madonna has been a tremendous influence on me, both as a feminist and an artist,” she said. “Her empowering history and approach inspire me.”

It was also something of a landmark moment for live concerts globally. At a time of astronomical ticket prices and rising production costs for major shows, a free concert attracting a crowd of this scale is exceedingly rare, especially in the United States. California’s Coachella festival, where a three-day general admission pass starts at about $500, draws up to 125,000 attendees a day. Musikfest, a mostly free music festival in Pennsylvania, welcomed about 1.3 million visitors over 11 days last year.

“To have a free show like that in recent years is relatively unheard-of,” Katelyn Yount, the director of festivals at AEG Presents, said of Madonna’s closing show. Hangout, an upcoming music festival on Alabama’s Gulf Coast that is among the annual events AEG produces, is capped each day at about 40,000 attendees, who pay more than $300 for a three-day pass.

If a performance of this magnitude was going to be held anywhere in 2024, it would probably be in Rio, where officials have experience with enormous crowds. In 2006, about 1.5 million people attended a free Rolling Stones concert at Copacabana Beach, Brazilian police and other authorities said at the time. An even larger crowd was said to have gathered for a Rod Stewart show there on New Year’s Eve in 1994.

The idea for the sprawling event was first planted two years ago, when Luiz Oscar Niemeyer, an executive with Bonus Track, a live entertainment company based in Rio de Janeiro, approached Madonna’s managers after hearing about plans for the tour. The Rolling Stones concert in 2006 helped convince him that something like this was possible, he said.

Negotiations stalled until last year, when a Madonna show in Mexico City was announced — ticketed dates for the Celebration Tour ended up wrapping with five nights there at the Palacio de los Deportes — and Niemeyer resumed his efforts to convince the pop star’s representatives and secure funding.

“It was an ambitious project for everyone, aiming to attract the largest audience of her career, and I thought this would help me persuade her,” Niemeyer said in an interview last week.

The concert’s corporate backers include the Brazilian bank Itaú and Heineken, and the government has made a significant investment as well.

Preparation for Madonna-palooza had consumed a segment of the city in recent days. A week ago, cargo planes carried about 270 tons of concert material to the city, including costumes and gym equipment. Eighteen sound and video towers were built across the beach, and last Wednesday, 4,000 workers prepared the stage in scorching heat.

Because this was the only Celebration concert in South America — Madonna last toured there in 2012 — fans congregated from all over the continent. In the days leading up to the event, a Madonna impersonator, Izelene Cristina, danced to “La Isla Bonita” at a bus station as she welcomed travelers. She would not be attending the concert because excitement over the superstar’s performance had led to a flood of bookings.

“Such is the life of an artist,” she said. “You work to move and entertain people.”

On Monday, Madonna and her touring team of about 200 arrived in Rio, heading directly to the French Riviera-inspired Copacabana Palace, the luxury hotel near where the stage was built. Later in the week, crowds gathered as close to the stage as possible, as the pop star crossed a specially built footbridge from the hotel to the stage to rehearse with some of her dancers.

Social media was flooded with clips of Madonna running through songs including the opener, “Nothing Really Matters.” “Are you happy? Are you ready?” she asked the assembled crowd at one point . The response: wild cheering. “OK, just checking,” she replied.

At a press briefing ahead of the concert, officials discussed the safety concerns that can accompany an audience of that size and unpredictable weather on the shore. Last year, the Brazilian D.J. Alok scheduled what had been billed as the “concert of the century” on Copacabana Beach, but a storm led part of the crowd to scatter, and concertgoers were faced with rampant pickpocketing , a problem at least some faced on Saturday night as well.

Marco Andrade, a spokesman for the Rio police, told reporters that the department planned to deploy 3,200 officers at the Madonna concert, compared with about 900 for Alok’s event. He said that facial recognition technology would be used at inspection areas, in addition to drones to monitor the crowd. In the end, the audience stretched into the ocean as well — a collection of boats anchored in the waters near the venue.

The atmosphere on the ground Saturday night was like a World Cup event, street carnival and New Year’s Eve celebration combined. Street vendors offered shirts, hats, cups and fans adorned with Madonna’s face and rainbow colors, and a plethora of barbecue, grilled cheese, empanadas and the Brazilian cocktail caipirinhas were available. To fight the heat, a firefighter atop a fire truck sprayed a jet of water on the crowd.

As the show ended with a remix of her 2009 track “Celebration,” Madonna addressed the audience for a final time: “Thank you, Rio,” adding “obrigada,” the equivalent in Portuguese. She smiled and let go of a Brazilian flag, flipped a white veil over her head and descended beneath the stage.

An earlier version of this article misstated the name of the Bonus Track executive who approached Madonna’s team about the Brazil show. He is Luiz Oscar Niemeyer, not Luiz Guilherme Niemeyer.

Leap Into AAPI Month 2024 With A Playlist Featuring Laufey, Diljit Dosanjh, & Peggy Gou

Celebrate AAPI artists this May with a genre-spanning playlist spotlighting festival headliners and up-and-coming musicians. From Korean hip-hop to Icelandic jazz-pop, listen to some of the most exciting artists from the Asian diaspora.

With spring just around the corner, it’s time to welcome AAPI Month in full blossom. From rising musical artists to inspiring community leaders, it’s essential to recognize AAPI members of the artistic world and their achievements.

While AAPI Month is a U.S. holiday, the Recording Academy takes a global approach in celebrating artists and creators from across the Asian and Asian American diaspora. This aligns with the Recording Academy's growing mission to expand its reach on a global scale and celebrate international creators outside of the U.S.

Musicians of Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander heritage have not only helped establish the music industry, but have transformed it. From Diljit Dosanjh being the first artist to play a Coachella set entirely in Punjabi to Laufey winning a GRAMMY for her jazz-inspired pop, AAPI artists continue to influence music by both honoring tradition and reshaping modern standards.

It’s thrilling to see AAPI musicians continue to take centerstage — from Atarashi Gakko! to Tiger JK ’s memorable sets at Coachella, to surprise appearances from Olivia Rodrigo , Dominic Fike , and Towa Bird. As festival season gets underway, examples of the AAPI starpower from every corner of the world abound.

As one of many ways to celebrate AAPI Month, listen to the GRAMMY.com playlist below — as a reminder to give AAPI musicians not just their May flowers, but their flowers all year-round!

Chung Ha Returns: On 'EENIE MEENIE,' The K-Pop Soloist Is Ready To Step Back Into The Spotlight

Chung Ha was one of K-pop’s most promising soloists, but decided to step back from the industry. Upon her return, Chung Ha wants to tell her fans "that they have the freedom to choose."

It takes courage to become a soloist in K-pop — a scene largely dominated by girl groups and boy groups of the most varied sizes — but more than that, it takes verve. Singer, dancer, and songwriter Chung Ha, 28 years old, knows it better than anyone.

Born in Seoul, South Korea but raised in Dallas, Texas, she first rose to stardom in 2016, after  returning to her home country and participating in Mnet’s trainee competition show "Produce 101." There, Chung Ha caught the eyes of judges and viewers alike for her sharp movements and innate charisma. She placed fourth on the finale, and became a member of I.O.I — the show’s resulting temporary girl group.

While I.O.I and its 11 members found great success, when the group disbanded in early 2017, Chung Ha decided to challenge herself further. In June of that year, she released her solo debut EP, Hands On Me .

Soon, Chung Ha became one of K-pop’s most promising (and somewhat unexpected) soloists — not only did she prove to be an exceptional dancer, but a smooth vocalist as well, full of style and star power. On stage, she commands performances with surgical precision, yet flows with breathtaking grace. She proved her versatility with a string of captivating singles, like the ice-cold "Snapping" and the bewitching "Gotta Go," which reached No.1 on Billboard’s K-pop Hot 100 chart in 2019. Her first studio album, 2021’s Querencia , blended R&B, EDM, reggaeton and even bossa nova with finesse.

But amidst all the success, Chung Ha took a break. She decided not to renew the contract with her previous label, spent more than a year on a hiatus, and even considered abandoning the music industry, as revealed on the YouTube talk show "Gabee’s Rising Star "

Luckily, Chung Ha changed her mind. She signed with MORE VISION, a label founded by singer and rapper Jay Park, and will drop the single album EENIE MEENIE on March 11.

GRAMMY.com caught up with Chung Ha via Zoom to learn more about her comeback — and to dive into her creative process, how she sees herself, and who she wants to be.

You spent more than a year on a hiatus, and even left your previous company. What made you sign with MORE VISION for this new phase of your career?

Jay [Park] reached out to me often. When I talked to the other co-workers at the company, their vision really aligned with mine. I think that was a crucial reason.

For example, I've never toured. I want to start out in small venues, and if I do have a chance I want to make it bigger. I want to work on more collaborations and try different genres of music like [on] "EENIE MEENIE," and they're aligned with me on that.

On "Gabee’s Rising Star," you said that you wanted to study abroad during your hiatus, and that being a celebrity is "just a job." What made you want to come back to music?

I was always interested in psychology. Working in this industry, it's a little chaotic, so I tried to maintain my mental health by [attending] counseling, and then I felt like I wanted to maintain my mental health on my own.

And growing up in Texas, I always had my Mexican friends with me, but I was the only one unable to understand Spanish. I was always interested, but [the break] felt like it was the right time to embrace Spanish more. I wanted to dive into the culture and the language, but at the end of the day, it was all about me maintaining my mental health because I wanted to be in this industry. Me wanting to explore Spanish because I wanted to engage more with my fans. I just realized, Oh, it was all about music. Okay. [ Laughs. ]

Since your last comeback, in what areas do you think you have improved or evolved?

Um… I don't know. I'm gonna need to have a real [live] stage for that. I think that's the kind of question I want to ask my fans to see what gradual changes that they notice, because for me, I feel like I'm still the same. But I want to tap myself [on the back] for trying new genres and being brave about getting out of my comfort zone.

What did you have in mind when you started producing this new album? What's the story behind it?

I was really confused. I was asking people, like, "I don't know what to do. I don't know what's next for me."I feel like I've tried different genres of music and different colors of myself, like "Bicycle," "Play," "Love U," and "Roller Coaster."

I didn't know what to do, so I decided to show both sides of myself. A new [side] with MORE VISION, and the one people are always eager to see, like [on] "Stay Tonight" and "Dream Of You." Those were some of the biggest [songs] that I saw people commenting on. So, the familiar side of me and a new side of me are both in the album, and I'm pretty confident [about it].

You collaborated with Hongjoong from ATEEZ in the lead track "EENIE MEENIE," which represents that new side of yourself. How was that experience?

I have followed ATEEZ since the beginning of their career. Their performance is so mind-blowing, they have that special energy that only they can give, so I was always inspired by them.

And then, on "EENIE MEENIE" there is a rap part, so when I heard the track I was like, Oh, I am not rapping . [ Laughs .] That's just too new for me. I sing-rap in "EENIE MEENIE," but that’s about it. So, I needed a real rapper and a real captain on my side and I thought Hongjoong was a perfect fit. After I heard his verse, it was so great, more than I ever expected. He definitely gave that final touch.

The other song on your album, "I’m Ready," represents your familiar side with driving house beats and a mesmerizing atmosphere, almost like a sequel to "Stay Tonight" and "Dream of You." As for the title, what are you ready for?

I guess I'm navigating through new things, and I don't know how it's gonna come out. [People] might say it's a failure, they might say it's a success, they might say I'm brave to challenge myself, but I'm just ready to face all that.

Even though someone might say, "Oh, I don't think it's the right fit for Chung Ha" or "I liked the old Chung Ha better," I don't think I'm afraid of getting judged, or getting rates on anything. I'm just ready to be more adventurous. Being too nervous might drag you into this anxiety space, but just being nervous in general with music and releasing new things is what makes me keep going.

I think people need that nervous feeling, being out of their comfort zone. You never know how you're going to feel, how the outcome is going to be.

Do you remember any specific experiences where you were trying something new and it turned out better than expected?

Oh, "Stay Tonight"was one of them. When I first heard the track, I was like, U m… this is too high. I don't know if K-pop lovers will like this song , because it was more [Western] pop than K-pop. It was right after I dropped "Snapping"and "Gotta Go," so I was like, Are my fans ready for this?

But [I thought] hey, you know what, let's just have fun. Let's just try new things. Let's vogue. [ Laughs ] I've always wanted to vogue, so I did that, and it became one of my epic pieces of performance. It didn’t go big in the charts or anything, but it became a real standout from a more artistic point of view.

EENIE MEENIE represents a new start for you, and both songs in the album talk about trusting yourself and your choices. Since you participated in the songwriting, is that what you have been experiencing lately? How do you recognize what feels right for you?

I feel like you never know what's right, but for me, I decide [something] when it keeps on popping in my head. Like, I would just be calm and see where my mind goes and what my [fandom] HAART keeps on telling me.

If your heart moves that way, I’d rather just do it and regret, than not do it and regret. That’s how I trust my instincts, listening to what I really want.

You mentioned that you see K-pop and Western pop as one. What do you think about the global growth of K-pop, and Western artists trying K-pop, or artists collaborating?

I think it's wonderful. I mean, the only difference is the culture and the language, and how we make our music with different rules and stuff. And it's really awesome [to see] other artists trying out Korean, trying out the marketing strategy of what we have always done. But it's the same with Korean artists, they try to go abroad and then try Western music.

Trying different cultures is getting more natural than splitting what's K-pop and what’s pop. I think it's all gathering into one because music is one, and we love music.

Is it easier for you to see everything as one because you are Korean, but you lived in America for so many years?

Yes, I think it was more natural for me to try different things. It was fun to get to know things like, Oh, this is Western style music, Western marketing strategy, or Western businesses, it goes on like this, and then Korean businesses go on like this . So it's all about learning.

You mentioned in an interview with Teen Vogue that you like to portray characters in your songs, but recently you have been telling your own story in them as well. How do you find the balance between those two possibilities?

I don't initially choose what to do before I hear the music. I hear it first, and then decide, like Oh, I want to share a story of mine, because I have this experience and my current state of mind is this, but sometimes it's just Oh, this is a new character I've never tried before. I want to be her, or I want to be him, or whatever. Let me try that out, let me see what it tastes like. [ Laughs. ] When new music comes to me, whatever character, whatever story comes up first, I would go with that.

And for this album, are you a character or are you portraying your life story?

I’m portraying my life story in both songs. I had a lot of choices to make throughout the beginning of my new career [after leaving my former company], like choosing a label, choosing a new logo, choosing songs, and other things, but in the end I just like what I like to do.

I came back to the music industry, and I really want people to embrace whatever they want to do. To tell them that they have the freedom to choose more than predetermined answers. I wanted to encourage that.

In another moment of your interview on "Gabee’s Rising Star," you said "When people think of Chung Ha, all that comes to mind is ‘Gotta Go’."Do you still believe in that?

Yes, and no. But I’m very grateful, because that song is what elevated me to the next step, and it gave me the courage to try different genres of music. But "Stay Tonight" and other pieces of music also identify me in different ways.

Who is Chung Ha, then? How would you like to be recognized?

Definitely not "Gotta Go." [ Laughs. ] I'm not that person now. I'm just a girl who loves music, and I'm just grateful and thankful, always. As much as I was diligent before, I want to keep on doing that, and I want to meet my fans more.

As Chung Ha, I want to ask my fans who they think I am, because I try to be as authentic as possible with music and my personality. Also I'm an adventurous person. Love to challenge myself. And I’m ready to go.

Listen: GRAMMY.com's Women's History Month 2024 Playlist: Female Empowerment Anthems From Beyoncé, Ariana Grande, Jennie & More

This March, the Recording Academy celebrates Women's History Month with pride and joy. Press play on this official playlist that highlights uplifting songs from Taylor Swift, Victoria Monét, Anitta and more.

From commanding stages to blasting through stereos, countless women have globally graced the music industry with their creativity. And though they've long been underrepresented , tides are changing: in just the last few years, female musicians have been smashing records left and right, conquering top song and album charts and selling sold-out massive tours .

This year, Women's History Month follows a particularly historic 66th GRAMMY Awards , which reflected the upward swing of female musicians dominating music across the board. Along with spearheading the majority of the ceremony's performances, women scored bigtime in the General Field awards — with wins including Best New Artist , Record Of The Year , Song Of The Year , and Album Of The Year .

Female empowerment anthems, in particular, took home major GRAMMY gold. Miley Cyrus ' "Flowers" took home two awards , while Victoria Monét was crowned Best New Artist thanks to the success of her album Jaguar II and its hit single "On My Mama." As those two songs alone indicate, female empowerment takes many different shapes in music — whether it's moving on from a relationship by celebrating self-love or rediscovering identity through motherhood.

The recent successes of women in music is a testament to the trailblazing artists who have made space for themselves in a male-dominated industry — from the liberating female jazz revolution of the '20s to the riot grrl movement of the '90s. Across genres and decades, the classic female empowerment anthem has strikingly metamorphosed into diverse forms of defiance, confidence and resilience.

No matter how Women's History Month is celebrated, it's about women expressing themselves, wholeheartedly and artistically, and having the arena to do so . And in the month of March and beyond, women in the music industry deserve to be recognized not only for their talent, but ambition and perseverance — whether they're working behind the stage or front-and-center behind the mic.

9 Ways Women Dominated The 2024 GRAMMYs

9 Essential K-Pop/Western Collabs: From BTS And Megan Thee Stallion, To IVE And Saweetie

From Jungkook and Usher's tribute to their shared musical idol, to BLACKPINK and Selena Gomez' sugary sweet collab, K-pop and Western artists of all genres are joining forces to create killer hits.

It’s impossible to ignore the growing global popularity of K-pop. Although Korean pop has been around for decades, the genre's meteoric worldwide success over the past 10 years is reminiscent of Beatlemania and the early 2000s American boy band craze. With a steady increase year-over-year in album sales and K-pop groups touring the U.S. and Europe, interest in K-pop shows no signs of slowing down .

Initially launched in South Korea as a music subgenre with Western pop, R&B and hip-hop influences in the '90s, the K-pop industry is valued at around $10 billion .

Given the worldwide appetite for K-pop, several Western musicians are keen to partner with K-pop acts crossing over into more international markets, often with songs sung partially or entirely in English. While K-pop artists do not need Western artists to be successful — BTS sold out London’s Wembley stadium in under 90 minutes back in 2019, and BLACKPINK made Coachella history twice with performances in 2019 and 2023 — K-pop's massive fanbase and multi-genre influence make it an ideal collaboration for everyone from rappers and singers to electronic DJs.

But don’t take our word for it. Here are nine of the most iconic K-Pop/Western collaborations (not in any order; they are all great songs!).

Usher and Jungkook - "Standing Next to You (Usher Remix)" (2024)

The maknae (the youngest member of the group) of global K-pop superstars BTS and the King of R&B are both having banner years: Jungkook released his debut solo album, and Usher just performed at the Super Bowl .

The Bangtan Boys have cited Usher as a significant influence (even singing a callback to his 2001 hit "U Got It Bad" in their No. 1 song, "Butter"), so BTS fans were delighted when the Jungkook tapped Usher for a remix of "Standing Next to You." The song marks the fourth single from his Billboard 200 chart-topping debut album, Golden .

Both singers count Michael Jackson as a major influence. In their collaboration video, Usher and Jungkook pay tribute to the King of Pop as they slide, pop, and lock across the slick floor of an abandoned warehouse.

John Legend and Wendy of Red Velvet - "Written in the Stars" (2018)

R&B singer/pianist John Legend was the perfect choice for an R&B ballad with Wendy, the main vocalist of K-pop quintet Red Velvet. The final song on the five-track SM Station x 0 , a digital music project, "Written in the Stars," is a beautiful, mid-tempo love song. A bit of a departure from K-pop’s typical upbeat sound, Wendy and Legend are in perfect harmony over a warm yet melancholic rhythm.

As Red Velvet’s main vocalist, Wendy was the ideal voice for this collaboration. Additionally, she split her childhood between Canada and the U.S., and has been comfortable singing in English since Red Velvet debuted in 2014. This wasn't her first collab with a Western artist: In 2017, she released an English-language version of the pop ballad " Vente Pa’Ca " with Ricky Martin .

BLACKPINK and Selena Gomez - "Ice Cream" (2020)

A powerhouse debut single, BLACKPINK collaborated with pop royalty Selena Gomez on the massive 2020 hit "Ice Cream."

An electropop-bubblegum fusion filled with dairy double entendres, "Ice Cream" was an enormous success for both Gomez and the BLACKPINK girls. The track peaked at No. 13 on the Billboard Hot 100 and has racked up nearly 900 million YouTube views to date.

Written by a consortium of hitmakers, including Ariana Grande and BLACKPINK’s longtime songwriter and producer Teddy Park (a former K-pop idol himself), "Ice Cream" shows that YG Entertainment’s golden foursome and Gomez were the correct partnership for this track. The pop-trap bop marked the first time a K-pop girl group broke the Top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and immediately solidified BLACKPINK as global superstars.

Snoop Dogg and Monsta X - "How We Do" (2022)

West Coast rap godfather Snoop Dogg has quietly become one of the go-to Western acts for K-pop collabs, working with Psy, BTS, Girls’ Generation and 2NE1. K-pop is the Dogg Father's "guilty pleasure, " and he performed at the Mnet Asian Music Awards with Dr. Dre in 2011. Without Snoop's love of K-pop, the world might not have gotten this fun and energetic collaboration with Snoop and Monsta X, a five-member boy group under Starship Entertainment.

The song appears in The Spongebob Movie: Sponge On The Run in a dance segment where Snoop, decked out in a pink and purple Western suit, is accompanied by zombie dancers. Though we do not see the members of Monsta X, their harmonious crooning is the perfect accent to Snoop Dogg’s trademark casual West Coast flow.

BTS and Steven Aoki - "MIC Drop (Steve Aoki remix)" (2017)

No K-pop list is complete with a nod to the magnificent seven, and "MIC Drop" is one of their catchiest Western collabs to date.

"Mic Drop" is quintessential BTS: a nod to hip-hop with a heavy bass line and fun choreography. While the original version of "MIC Drop" is excellent, the remix with EDM superstar DJ Steve Aoki and rapper Desiigner cracked the Top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100 — the first of many hits for the Bulletproof Boy Scouts.

Released at a time when BTS were just starting their ascent to chart-topping Western dominance, the track's boastful lyrics and tension-building electro-trap production offered an excellent introduction to the group that would soon become international superstars.

JYJ, Kanye West and Malik Yusef - "Ayyy Girl" (2010)

A truly deep K-pop cut, you’d be hard-pressed to find many people who know that Kanye West collaborated with a first-generation K-pop group over 13 years ago. Released as the lead single on JYJ’s English-language album The Beginning , West’s signature bravado and wordplay are on full display over a track that sounds like the Neptunes produced it.

The song garnered attention in the U.S., but after a string of bad luck (including a severely delayed U.S. visa process and issues with their management company, SM Entertainment), JYJ could not capitalize on their American success. The group continued to see success in Korea and Japan in the early 2010s but never made a splash in the Western market again.

IVE and Saweetie - "All Night" (2024)

A reimagining of Icona Pop’s 2013 song of the same name, "All Night," sees fourth-generation K-pop girl group IVE partner with rap’s resident glamor girl Saweetie for a funky, electronic-infused pop song that’s perfect for dancing from dusk till dawn.

"All Night" is the first English song for the Starship Entertainment-backed group. Interestingly, none of the members of IVE have individual lines in the song, choosing instead to sing the lyrics in a six-part harmony. This choice is exciting but fun, giving listeners the feeling that they are more than welcome to sing along.

The girl group embarked on their first 24-date world tour in January 2024, with stops in the U.S., Asia, Europe and South America. Given their quest for global dominance, there’s a good chance "All Night" won’t be IVE's last English-language release.

BTS and Megan Thee Stallion - "Butter (Remix)" (2021)

BTS’ "Butter" had already spent three weeks atop the Billboard charts and was declared the "song of the summer" when the group’s label announced Houston rapper Megan Thee Stallion as the guest star for the song’s remix in late August 2021. The GRAMMY-nominated septet is no stranger to collaborating with Western musicians, having worked with Halsey , Jason Derulo, and Coldplay .

Though only slightly altered from the original (Megan’s verse was added in place of the song’s second original verse, along with several ad-libs), the remix was praised by both fans and critics alike, catapulting the song’s return back to the No. 1. Although the collaborators did not release a new music video featuring the group and the self-proclaimed "Hot Girl Coach," three members of BTS’ "dance line" (members J-Hope , Jungkook and Jimin ) released a specially choreographed dance video . Additionally, Megan was a surprise guest during BTS’ record-breaking Permission to Dance LA concert in November of the same year.

LE SSERAFIM and Niles Rodgers - "Unforgiven" (2023)

GRAMMY Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Nile Rodgers ' first foray into K-pop was a partnership with LE SSERAFIM , a fourth-gen girl group from the same parent company behind BTS. "Unforgiven" was released earlier this year as the lead single from the group’s debut album of the same name.

A darker take on the familiar K-pop formula with A Western feel and look (the young quintuplet dons cowboy hats, boots and bolo ties in the song’s accompanying music video), "Unforgiven" is about rebellion and being a fierce, strong and independent risk taker. That riskiness drew Rodgers' ear.

"It seems like a lot of the K-pop that I'm hearing lately, the…chord changes are a lot more interesting than what's been happening [in other music fields] over the last few years," he told GRAMMY.com in 2023. "I come from a jazz background, so to hear chord changes like that is really cool. They’re not afraid, which is great to me."

Chris Pine Was Surprised by New ‘Star Trek 4’ Writer Hire Because ‘I Thought There Was Already a Script…I Was Wrong or They Decided to Pivot’

Chris Pine was taken by surprise when news hit that Steve Yockey, creator of the Max series “The Flight Attendant,” had signed on to write the script for “ Star Trek 4.” Why? “I thought there was already a script,” the actor recently told Business Insider during an interview on his “Poolman” press tour.

Popular on Variety

“I honestly don’t know,” Pine told Business Insider when asked about “Star Trek 4” updates. “There was something in the news of a new writer coming on board. I thought there was already a script, but I guess I was wrong, or they decided to pivot. As it’s always been with ‘Trek,’ I just wait and see.”

Steve Yockey is the latest screenwriter to get a chance to pen the script for “Star Trek 4.” Attempts over the years to get the sequel off the ground have included an R-rated idea from none other then Quentin Tarantino. Another version of the project was to be directed by Matt Shakman (“WandaVision”) and written by Lindsey Beer (“Sierra Burgess Is a Loser”) and Geneva Robertson-Dworet (“Captain Marvel”). Shakman left the project to direct Marvel’s “The Fantastic Four” instead, and it fell apart soon afterwards.

In his Business Insider interview , Pine also said that it wasn’t until the third movie that he finally felt comfortable on set playing Kirk. The character was made famous by William Shatner.

“It’s interesting. Karl Urban decided to go head first into McCoy because Karl loved ‘Star Trek,'” Pine said. “With Spock, you have to do Spock-like things, plus Zach [Quinto] kind of looked like Leonard [Nimoy]. And then Kirk is a tricky one. You are the lead of the band of characters, so you don’t want to occupy too much space. It’s fine if they are doing a thing, but you don’t want to. And J.J. [Abrams] never asked me to do a thing, though I did do little nods to Shatner because it was fun.”

“But I would say I felt most in his shoes in the third movie. By that point, I think I mellowed into it and didn’t feel like I was trying too hard,” Pine added.

Belgium is one of the original Eurovision Song Contest countries, having been there since the first event in 1956.

In total, the country has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 64 times - but they have only won once, in 1986.

There was a period of time when Belgium's performances in Eurovision felt fraught - in the 2000s, the country failed to reach the semi-finals for five consecutive years.

But since 2010, the country's fortunes seem to have turned around, placing in the top 10 five times, and finishing seventh in 2023.

But who is Mustii? Will he be the one to help bring glory back to Belgium? Here’s what we know.

What is Belgium's Eurovision 2024 song called?

Belgium's Eurovision song is Before the Party's Over .

In an interview , Mustii said of the song: "It's a song from my own DNA. It took me some time to find resilience and to fight to be exactly whoever I wanted to be and that's the story of my song. It's sort of divided in a few parts.

"In a first moment, we acknowledge the struggle we're going through, but at one point we realise we need to look for our inner fire to fight it because we are running out of time."

Where did the Belgium come in the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest?

In 2023, Belgium came seventh with 182 points in total.

When is Eurovision 2024?

The first of the Eurovision 2024 semi-finals will air on Tuesday 7th May at 8pm , with the second show following on Thursday 9th May at 8pm .

The Grand Final will take place on Saturday 11th May at 8pm , taking place at Malmö Arena in Sweden.

The Eurovision Song Contest has faced significant criticism over its decision to allow Israel to compete in this year’s competition in light of the current situation in Gaza and the Middle East, with some fans and members of the music industry calling for a boycott of the ceremony.

Noel Curran – director general of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), which organises Eurovision – has said in a statement : "We understand the concerns and deeply held views around the current conflict in the Middle East. We can’t fail to be moved by the profound suffering of all those caught up in this terrible war.

"However, the Eurovision Song Contest is a non-political music event and a competition between public service broadcasters who are members of the EBU. It is not a contest between governments.

"As a member-led organisation, our governing bodies – the Eurovision Song Contest Reference Group and the Executive Board – did review the participants list for the 2024 Contest and agreed that the Israeli public broadcaster KAN met all the competition rules for this year and can participate as it has for the past 50 years."

The artists taking part in this year's contest have also faced backlash for not pulling out of the ceremony, including the UK's act Olly Alexander, who signed a joint statement alongside other entrants explaining they "do not feel comfortable being silent".

"It is important to us to stand in solidarity with the oppressed and communicate our heartfelt wish for peace, an immediate and lasting ceasefire, and the safe return of all hostages," the statement read. "We stand united against all forms of hate, including anti-Semitism and Islamophobia.

"We firmly believe in the unifying power of music, enabling people to transcend differences and foster meaningful conversations and connections. We feel that it is our duty to create and uphold this space, with a strong hope that it will inspire greater compassion and empathy."
