Monday 3rd July. Jazz Cafe. The Roots. Less than a week after Glastonbury normalcy is slowly returning and we’re back at the refurbished Jazz Café to see the legendary Roots.

Tonight’s incarnation is eleven members strong with two keyboardists, horn section, the usual drums, bass and guitar plus two guys playing some sort of electronic push button noise making thingy. I’m sure there’s a proper musical definition for this instrument but forgive me I don’t know what it is.

After the stage time for some reason being as secret as the nuclear codes, the venue is full to bursting 45 minutes before the band come on at 9. This venue and part of London is special for the Roots as they lived here for a while and their first gigs were here.

Primarily known as a hip hop band what the next two hours shows is that they are so much more than this. These are all highly talented musicians, sparking off each other throughout the set, improvising, counter improvising all led by band leader Questlove behind the drums. All genres of music are taken in tonight, blues, rock, soul, RnB, ragtime and even a little jazz with excellent covers of ‘Jungle Boogie’, ‘Move on up’, ‘Sweet child of mine’ and especially Led Zep’s ‘Immigrant Song’.

The shows starts strongly and grows and grows in intensity with the final third of the set being right up with the best shows I have ever seen.

They are clearly having fun, laughing and joking throughout with choreographed dance routines with a special mention for Tuba Gooding Jr on the Sousaphone who struts around with this massive bit of kit wrapped around himself.

A top top night for an amazing live band in an intimate settings. It doesn’t get better than this.

Given that they’ve already landed themselves quite the day job - they’ve served as the house band for Jimmy Fallon since 2009, following him to The Tonight Show earlier this year - it’s a wonder that The Roots manage to get anything else done, but they’ve continued to record and tour to an impressive degree over the past few years; in fact, drummer and de facto leader ?uestlove even managed to turn out a superb autobiography last year, too. On stage, Roots shows are a lavish affair; musically, they’re one of the most diverse, experimental groups currently in operation in hip hop, and that’s reflected in a diffuse range of instrumentation; in addition to the typical band setup, F. Knuckles provides additional percussion and the aptly-nicknamed Tuba Gooding, Jr. plays the sousaphone - for the uninitiated, think ‘giant tuba’ and you’re just about there. More than twenty five years since their formation, Black Thought’s relentless energy in delivering vocals has barely faded; with a flow and style of delivery that’s at once lively and laid-back, he sonically channels a young Guru of Gang Starr, whilst touching upon a broad range of subjects lyrically. At the core of the band’s live success, though, is ?uestlove; he’s one of the tightest drummers around, and his beat-keeping is one of the most prominent facets in making The Roots such an engaging live proposition.

The Roots are easily the best rap group/band to see live. They have an incredible catalogue which they have recently added to. This includes hit songs that span over the last two decades. Black Thought, the resident MC, is a master of voice control, flow and working the crowd. They have the legendary Rahzel aka the Human Beat Box to liven up the set. In fact, all of the individual musicians are great and are typically given a chance to shine with a little solo set. They are all incredible from Questlove to the guitarist and keyboard player. Also, the band can re-create/cover a ridiculous amount of songs, so there is a possibility that you will hear a very unique cover. Typically, an awesome/chilled out crowd. Overall great time.

Best band ever! My first time seeing The Roots in concert. Everytime they come to Chicago I'm going. They paid a tribute to Prince on the bebop he kill it they all killed that night.

Max & Iggor will be playing the entire legendary Roots album while celebrating its 20th anniversary.

Max states, “ Metalheads. It’s time. Twenty years ago, we released the Roots album and changed the face of metal forever. Now, we’re returning to ‘The Roots’ to show everybody the magic and inspiration of the Roots live experience! ”

Iggor adds, “ I am very proud to play ‘Roots’ again – to reaffirm that after 20 years, it still moves people. ”

SEPULTURA DISCOGRAPHY

Beneath the Remains (1989) unearthed the mature side of Sepultura while maintaining the ferocity of the prior albums, they added complexity and melody to both the guitars and vocals bringing forth an album of new heights for the band.

Arise (1992) grew the band’s international reach even wider just as death metal was choking the life out of heavy metal.

Sepultura continued to do their own thing while releasing Chaos A.D. (1993) the following year. However, their sound had progressed yet again, this time seemingly leaning towards a mainstream sound and almost filling the heavy metal void. Choas A.D. saw the band on an Australia tour filling halls in every state.

Then came Roots (1996) which is a truly unique metal album. The band went deep into the South American jungle and recorded with an Indian tribe (Xavantes located in Mato Grosso, Brasil) while learning about their roots and discovering a whole new perspective on music and life.

Roots absorbed the tribe’s ceremonies mixed with Brasilian rhythm and Sepultura’s metal punk blend.

At the peak of their career, Max and Igor departed Sepultura and Derrick Green , who sang on Against (1998), replaced Max who joined Soulfly . Derrick Green continues onwards as the front man of Sepultura and has released: Nation (2001), Roorback (2003), Dante XXI (2006), A-Lex (2009), Kairos (2011), The Mediator Between Head and Hands Must Be the Heart (2013) and this year’s Machine Messiah (2017).

Olivia Rodrigo, the name behind Drivers License , Good 4 U and plenty more radio hits, announced last week she is bringing her Guts World Tour Down Under in 2024 .

Today was the final chance to secure tickets to the singer's wildly popular Aussie tour in the general sale which kicked of at 1pm local time.

However, in sad news for fans, Ticketek advised fans trying to buy tickets online that the Sydney and Melbourne ticket allocation has been ''exhausted".

By late Thursday afternoon, after tickets went on sale, all allocations were exhausted except for two dates.

Just hours ahead of the final ticket release, the singer added an extra two more shows to her trip Down Under – one in both Sydney and Melbourne.

Olivia Rodrigo adds new tour dates

Just hours before the general sale kicked off, Olivia Rodrigo added an extra two shows to her Aussie tour, taking the total to eight concerts across the country.

The pop star shared the update to her Instagram story, unveiling new shows on Monday October 14 at Melbourne's Rod Laver Arena and Tuesday October 22 at Sydney's Qudos Bank Arena.

Rodrigo also added two additional shows in to her Aussie tour just an hour before the Live Nation presale on Wednesday May 15.

The Live Nation website published new shows on Sunday October 13 in Melbourne and October 21 in Sydney.

As part of her Asia and Australia leg of the Guts World Tour , Rodrigo confirmed she will be performing four shows in Sydney and Melbourne in October.

The singer will play at Melbourne's Rod Laver Arena on October 9, 11, 13 and 14 and Sydney's Qudos Bank Arena on October 17, 18, 21 and 22.

New Zealand singer Benee, who went viral in 2020 for her song Supalonely, will join Olivia Rodrigo in Australia as the support act for her Sydney and Melbourne shows.

How much are Olivia Rodrigo tickets for 2024?

Fans finally got to see ticket prices for the Australia shows in the Amex presale on Monday.

The cheapest seats cost $109.90 for C Reserve Side View Seating and $132.45 for a C Reserve Aisle seat while the most expensive ticket is $455.65 for "GA Pit Experience".

For the next tier up, a B Reserve seat is $152.85 while a B Reserve Aisle ticket costs $173.25.

Meanwhile, general A Reserve seats and GA Standing tickets are both priced at $203.80 while an A Reserve Aisle seat is on offer for $224.20.

For her US and Europe tour legs, the singer introduced a special offer called the Silver Star Tickets for $20 to make her shows accessible and affordable for all.

Where to buy Olivia Rodrigo tickets

Olivia Rodrigo tickets were sold on Ticketek. 

Ticketek released information on the official website for VIP tickets.

The GA Pit Experience ticket will give fans access to a VIP bar for the night and pre-show access to merchandise amongst other inclusions.

There is also a Live Nation VIP Package available.

When do Olivia Rodrigo tickets go on sale?

The first presale round of tickets for Olivia Rodrigo's Aussie shows kicked off on Monday.

Tickets to the general public went on sale on Thursday May 16 at 1pm local time for both the Sydney and Melbourne shows.

There is a limit of four tickets per customer for Rodrigo's Aussie tour. 

How to get Olivia Rodrigo presale tickets

There were two presales for the Olivia Rodrigo Australia tour leg: Amex and Live Nation.

The Amex presale is exclusively for American Express cardholders while the second through Live Nation can be accessed by registering an account with the company.

The American Express presale kicked off on Monday May 13 at 12pm local time for both Sydney and Melbourne shows.

The presale finished at 12pm on Wednesday May 15.

The second presale was through Live Nation on Wednesday May 15 at 1pm local time.

The presale ran for both Sydney and Melbourne shows until general sale started on Thursday May 16 at 1pm.

After registering for a Live Nation account, fans can access the presale either through the website or directly on Ticketek.

Olivia Rodrigo Announces Asia & Australia Legs of Guts World Tour: See the Dates

Olivia Rodrigo is continuing to expand her Guts World Tour, announcing Wednesday (May 8) that she's adding nine new dates in Asia and Australia to the trek for this fall.

The new dates will mark the pop star's first time touring in either country, bringing her up to a total of 82 shows globally by the time the endeavor ends later this year. The Asian leg kicks off Sept. 16 in Bangkok, Thailand, and will find Rodrigo traveling through Seoul, Hong Kong and Tokyo. Unveiling the new dates on her Instagram Story, the half-Filipina singer also teased, "Stay tuned, Manila!"

Soon afterward, Rodrigo will play two shows in Melbourne followed by two in Sydney in October. She'll be joined for all four Australian shows by rising alt-pop star Benee, who's known for the mega-viral TikTok hit "Supalonely," which peaked at No. 39 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2020.

The "Vampire" singer is currently in the midst of her trek's European leg, which began April 30 in Dublin. It follows her initial run of shows in North America, which featured stops in Palm Springs, Calif., New York City, Toronto and more cities.

"so much luv for everyone who has been coming 2 jump and sing and scream!!! Asia and Australia dates just announced!!! hope to see ya there!!!"

The news comes just a few days after Rodrigo was forced to cancel her show in Manchester planned for Friday (May 3) due to technical difficulties at the Co-Op Live arena. "I'm sooooo disappointed that we're unable to perform in Manchester due to on-going venue-related technical issues," she wrote on her Story at the time. "I'm so bummed and I really hope to see you all soon."
