Toi, Izu Peninsula 土肥
Jennifer May
Toi is a small resort town on the west side of the Izu Peninsula in Shizuoka Prefecture , overlooking Suruga Bay. Toi is known for its hot springs, beaches, its historical gold and silver mine, and the world's largest flower clock.
The east side of the Izu Peninsula is more traveled than the west, but a visit to Toi, on the peninsula's western side, is recommended for its natural beauty and historical legacy.
Toi to Shimizu Ferry with Mount Fuji
There is a direct Nishi-Izu Ferry connection to Toi from Shimizu City. Mt. Fuji is clearly visible from the ferry on clear day crossings. Korean ships dock at Shimizu port, too, with cruises to Korea from Shimizu Port.
Like most towns on the Izu Peninsula, Toi is full of onsen hotels and beaches. Toi has about forty ryokan and about eighty minshuku (family-run guesthouses). Many of the onsen in particular have spectacular views of Suruga Bay, unusual rock formations, and Mt. Fuji.Onsen hotels allow visitors to use their hot spring baths for a price without staying in their hotels, so it is possible to have a soak and take in the views even if you are not planning to spend the night.
Cherry trees and ocean view, Toi, Shizuoka
Toi Flower Clock
Toi has what it claims is the world's largest flower clock. There is a path of varying textures that circles the clock which people are meant to walk on barefoot for relaxation and therapy (but some of the textures look more torturous than relaxing).
Toi Kinzan Former Goldmine
Toi has an old gold and silver mine Toi Kinzan (Tel: 0558 98 0800) in the mountain behind it. Toi Kinzan was one of the largest gold mines in Japan, second in size only to the gold mine on Sado Island , and was under the direct control of the Tokugawa Shogunate. The mine produced gold and silver for so-called "Keicho" coins. Toi grew as a port with the frequent visits of Tokugawa ships to transport the gold and silver, and geisha houses sprang up to service visiting officials.
The mine's most productive years were between 1596-1615. Over the 388 years of total production, 78 metric tons of gold and 2,330 metric tons of silver were mined. Mining ceased in 1965.
The mine's tunnels have been made into a museum with dioramas depicting mining and the history of Toi town life in the feudal period. Visitors can touch the world's largest gold ingot (200 kg) as recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records. You can also try your hand at mining for gold dust for an additional fee.
Pacific Ocean sunset, Shizuoka Prefecture
The Toi Summer Festival is held August 18-21. This grand party includes lots of food and beer stalls, a stage to accompany non-stop performances from the local talent, such as the local taiko group , and, at the end of the day, a magnificent show of fireworks on the beach under the starry skies over Suruga Bay.
Accommodation in Toi
The following are three recommended properties in Toi: budget, mid-range, and luxury:
Izumi is a semi-Japanese-style, budget hotel just a couple of kilometers south of the port at Toi. All the basics are covered here, with private facilities for each room with its own bath and toilet, plus a kettle, a shared hot pool bath and communal lounge if you're so inclined, and free parking.
Ooya (" oh-ya ") is a mid-range Japanese guest house near Toi port with all the facilities - and the serene atmosphere - to make your stay a pleasant one. Has an open air bath with a view, good food, spacious, comfortable tatami mat rooms, and free parking for guests.
Musouan Biwa is a traditional Japanese ryokan modeled on a big, wooden farmhouse, with exposed rafters and tatami mat rooms. Musouan Biwa is just a couple of minutes' walk from the port, offers you a stay in the lap of Japanese luxury and hospitality, with everything geared to make you and your stay very special. Meals you'll remember, and amazing views over Suraga Bay from your own private, spacious balcony. Free Wi-Fi throughout.
Access - Getting to Toi
From Tokyo to the east, take the Tokaido Shinkansen or JR Tokaido Line train to Atami or Mishima.
From Nagoya or Shizuoka to the west, take the JR Tokaido or Shinkansen line to Mishima or Atami.
From Atami , take the JR Ito Line to Ito. At Ito, take the Tokai bus toward Dogashima and get off the bus at the Toi Stop.
From Mishima, you can get on the Tokai Bus toward Ito/Dogashima.
For the ferry experience, take the JR train from Shizuoka Station to Shimizu (3rd stop). From there, it is a 10-minute bus ride to Shimizu Port or a short taxi ride from the East Exit of the station. At Shimizu Port, take the Nishi-Izu Ferry to Toi Port (70 minutes). Be sure to check the Dream Ferry schedule .
There are four round trip sailings from Shimizu Port to Toi on weekdays, weekends and public holidays . The fare is currently 2,260 yen. See the operator's website above.
The ferries running from Toi via Heda (25 minutes) to Numazu on the JR Tokaido Line ceased operating in 2014.

I stayed in the solo room with shared bathroom on the 1st floor (1 floor up) in a low season (perhaps), thus it was quiet and comfortable. The staff is super friendly. Although the breakfast is simple (attached picture), there are a convenient store (Satra) and a lots of F&B options close by.
Free breakfast. Nice location and around 400m walk to Ben Thanh Market. Helpful frontdesk, they book our scooter for city tour for us.
Walking distance to Ben Thanh Market, clean rooms, accommodating staff, free breakfast toasted bread, cereal, orange or coffee.
Everything. Location is central to the district so couple of attractions are easily accessible. Receptionists are welcoming and helpful. Cheerful crowd at the hostel!
All the convenience this place provide! Will definitely recommend
Location is perfect and good value for money. A lot of establishments outside specially Cafè, Street Food Vendors and Convenience stores. Facilities are good enough for what you will be needing during your stay. Good venue to meet and communicate new people from different countries.

The location and room size were very good. Also the possibility to book tours at the reception was very helpful. The hostel had a nice atmosphere and good staff
It's a very clean and very well located hostel. Beds are very comfortable as well. Nice and clean bathroom.
Great value for money. I've stayed here multiple times and will always choose Toi's whenever I am in Saigon. Also, it's nearby Huynh Hoa - the best Banh Mi (in my opinion).
Excellent location!

15 Things to Do in Santa Clara (CA)
Santa Clara is a city of nearly 125,000 residents that’s located in Santa Clara County, about 75 kilometers south of San Francisco .
The city was founded more than 200 years ago as a Spanish Mission. Now, it’s most well-known for its booming tech industry that’s commonly referred to around the world as Silicon Valley.
Though it’s common knowledge to most football fans, it’s a surprise to many to discover that the relatively small city is also the home of the National Football League’s San Francisco 49ers.
Visitors to Santa Clara have abundant activity options at their fingertips without venturing outside city limits, so staying engaged and entertained shouldn’t be an issue.
1. Levi’s Stadium
With a capacity of nearly 70,000, Levi’s Stadium on Marie P. DeBartolo Way in Santa Clara is one of the country’s premier professional football stadiums.
The 49ers play their home games here, and during the off-season, the stadium hosts a variety of annual events, including concerts featuring big names in the music industry.
Taking a family to a football game isn’t the least expensive activity option in the area, but for those who’ve never taken in a pro game, it’s an exhilarating experience that may be worth the cost.
Guided tours are also regularly available, and the bars and restaurants around the stadium are fun to visit year-round.
2. Ulistac Natural Area
Despite its large population and the overall hustle and bustle, the Bay Area features plenty of urban parks and natural areas that are convenient options for those interested in enjoying the great outdoors.
The Ulistac Natural Area is located on Lick Mill Road in Santa Clara. It is comprised of more than 40 acres that include a variety of distinct environments.
The natural area straddles the Guadalupe River and is home to an array of plants and animals that are well-suited to its riparian habitat.
A particularly popular attraction for bird watchers, it features a number of well-marked nature trails dotted with interpretive signs.
3. Santa Clara Art & Wine Festival
Californians take their art and wine seriously, and there’s no better way to combine the two than by visiting the Santa Clara Art & Wine Festival.
The event is held in the city’s Central Park and features nearly 200 vendors from across the country selling fine art and crafts, gourmet food, and a vast selection of California’s best wines.
Proceeds are donated to worthwhile causes that benefit residents in need. It all takes place in the early fall when the central California weather is perfect for outdoor activities.
Other highlights include live entertainment and lots of art-related activities for kids.
4. The de Saisset Museum
Though he’s not exactly a household name for those who don’t typically travel in West Coast art circles, Ernest de Saisset was one of the Bay Area’s most prominent artists in the 19th century.
Saisset was a French immigrant who enrolled in Santa Clara University and studied painting as a young man.
The museum that now bears his name is located on the university’s campus. It includes a collection of more than 100 of his most impressive works.
It’s as much a historical attraction as it is an art one, and it also has other works from European and American artists dating back hundreds of years.
5. Intel Museum
Intel is one of the titans of the tech world. Over the years, it has been responsible for some of the most significant technological leaps forward in computer hardware.
The Intel Museum is located on the campus of the company’s world headquarters in Santa Clara, and it’s regularly open to the public.
Even for those who don’t fall into the tech-savvy category, it’s a fascinating place that’s definitely worth an hour or two of time.
Though it may sound dry to technophobes, it’s packed with interactive exhibits for visitors of all ages, so it’s great for kids with short attention spans too.
6. Santa Clara Farmers’ Market
There’s really no better way to rub elbows with locals, enjoy pleasant weather, and have access to tons of great products you won’t find elsewhere than by visiting a farmers’ market.
The Santa Clara Farmers’ Market is open year-round and features a little bit of everything – from seasonal produce and fresh baked goods to health and body products and prepared food items.
Held on Jackson Street near the downtown area, it’s common to find different items each time you go.
Spending a few bucks is a great way to support local farmers and entrepreneurs, and don’t be shy about asking them for suggestions for things to see and do while in town.
7. California’s Great America
There’s no shortage of theme parks in the Golden State, but there’s one clear choice for those visiting Santa Clara.
California’s Great America is located on Great America Parkway just outside of town. It features tons of rides, dining options, kid’s activities, and a water park that’s a huge draw during the hot summer months.
Though Great America can really draw a crowd during peak times when kids are enjoying their summer vacations, previous guests have noted that wait times for rides weren’t overly long.
Many families choose to spend an entire day on-site to avoid wasting valuable recreational time in the car.
8. Mission Santa Clara
Mission Santa Clara is one of the city’s premier historic sites, and it’s now conveniently located on the campus of Santa Clara University.
The mission was established by Franciscans in the 1770s to spread Christianity to the area’s Native American population.
Sadly, things didn’t go according to plan; due to several natural disasters, the mission was forced to move from its original site to where it is now.
Over the years, it was also run by the Jesuits. Though it’s no longer functioning in its original role, it now doubles as a museum and chapel that are open to visitors.
9. The Triton Museum of Art
Though guests tend to visit the Triton Museum of Art for the works in its collection, its stunning contemporary architecture usually makes a big impression as well.
The museum’s collection includes works from all over the country, but its emphasis is on pieces created by Bay Area artists using local people and scenery as inspiration.
The grounds also include a sprawling outdoor sculpture garden spread over nearly seven acres, and a home from the mid-1860s that’s among the most well-preserved examples of historic American architecture in the area.
The museum is located on Warburton Avenue, and most visitors spend a few hours on-site.
10. Santa Clara Players
The Santa Clara Players traces its roots all the way back to the early ‘60s, when a group of local performers began putting on small shows for the community.
Now nearly seven decades later, they’re still going strong. Their annual performances run the gamut from dramatic theater and mystery to satire and humor.
The players are part of a community theater group staffed by talented volunteers dedicated to providing high-quality, family-friendly entertainment at a reasonable cost.
They’re located on Don Avenue in Santa Clara and offer lots of volunteer opportunities for budding actors and stagehands.
11. Central Park
Featuring lots of wide-open spaces and massive swimming and community rec centers, Santa Clara’s Central Park is a go-to destination for activity minded visitors looking to make the most of their limited vacation time without traveling to more distant attractions.
The park is centrally located on Keily Boulevard, has ample parking, and features lots of outdoor amenities and recreational activity options.
From tennis and basketball to softball, lawn bowling, and a big playground, there’s really no excuse for getting bored while on-site. For those looking to spend a relaxing afternoon, there are a lake, built-in BBQs, and public restrooms.
12. The 49ers Museum
Even for those who won’t be in Santa Clara during the regular season, the 49ers stadium and museum are fun attractions worth visiting for sports-minded visitors.
The museum is located inside Levi’s Stadium and features nearly a dozen distinct galleries that are open to the public year-round.
It’s a fun and educational experience for visitors of all ages. In addition to football, its exhibits touch on science, technology, and art in a way that engages and entertains young and old minds alike.
Most guests check out the introductory video in the visitor’s center before showing themselves through the impressive collection of trophies, balls, and Super Bowl memorabilia on display.
13. The Santa Clara Fire Museum
The Santa Clara Fire Department’s roots run all the way back to the 1850s when it was founded.
The museum is now located on Walsh Avenue in an unused training center behind the city’s new fire station.
It sports an impressive collection of equipment and historical memorabilia that give visitors unique insights into the lives of fire and rescue personnel in years past.
The museum’s highlights include a fully restored Model-T fire truck that served for two decades, beginning in the 1920s.
The knowledgeable local volunteer staff also offer regular programs geared at educating the public about fire safety and prevention issues.
14. Edward Peterman Museum of Railroad History
The Edward Peterman Museum of Railroad History is run by a local historical society. It is housed in the depot of a now-defunct railroad on Railroad Avenue in Santa Clara.
Like many local historical attractions, the museum is staffed by local volunteers who love answering questions and showing first-time visitors around.
The museum’s exhibits include a variety of railroad equipment and memorabilia, including signals, safety equipment, and historical photographs dating back over 100 years.
The museum is regularly open to the public. It maintains an extensive library of books relating to railroad development and local history as well.
15. Voyager Coffee
Though it has only been around since 2016, Voyager Coffee’s owner and staff are dedicated to the noble pursuit of making their customers happy.
They do this largely by providing world-class coffee, but also by offering a comfortable space in which guests have opportunities to build relationships with like-minded customers.
Many of their coffees sport internationally influenced flavors, and they’re often infused with things like orange essence and cherry blossom water.
Don’t worry if you prefer your coffee straight-up, because they’ve got more traditional brews as well.
They offer fresh pastry and baked goods, tea, and other non-coffee drinks too.

Best Time to Visit Bali: Month by Month Breakdown
Bali is one of the most popular islands in Southeast Asia, and deciding the best time to visit Bali is going to affect not only the weather you experience but also how many other tourists are there with you.
Like most of tropical Indonesia, Bali only really has two seasons throughout the year, the dry season and the wet season.
All year-round, it’s hot, and for many, Bali can be visited any time of the year, but between November and March, you can expect downpours most days during the wet season.
April to October is the dry season and you can expect larger crowds and higher prices but the weather will be perfect.
Often, the best time to visit Bali is a trade-off between the weather and the number of visitors.
To help you to plan your trip, here’s our guide on the best time to visit Bali.

Table of Contents
Bali Dry Season
The dry season is the best time to visit Bali when it comes to the weather because for half of the year you can expect beautiful clear skies and almost no rainfall.
The dry season in Bali runs from May to October, although this can vary each year. The peak months are the height of the Balinese winter, which is June, July, and August.
May in Bali
May is the start of the official dry season in Bali, but you can still expect a mixed bag when it comes to the weather.
One year it could be raining all through May but the next it can be dry from as early as April.
If it does rain in May though it’s guaranteed to just be a few light showers, and this is the best time to visit before you hit the high season from June to August.
Prices will be lower in May and with the better weather, it’s a good time to start diving and snorkeling, as the water visibility clears up.
It’s getting cooler too and less humid, so a hike to the summit of Bali’s mysterious volcano, Mount Batur, can be a great activity in May, as you’ll miss the crowds and enjoy better conditions for hiking.
June in Bali
June is the start of the high season in Bali, although it’s not quite as busy a month as July and August. The weather is likely to be perfect with temperatures averaging in the mid-twenties and humidity low.
You’ll have to be really unlucky to see even a light rain shower, so it’s a great time to hit up the beaches and make the most of the clear skies and sunshine.
Prices start to climb in June, but you’ll miss the worst of the high season which picks up towards the end of the month when the European summer holidays begin in earnest.
In June you should visit the more touristy attractions such as the famous temples in the south – Uluwatu for instance – or the increasingly popular Nusa Islands before the summer crowds make their appearance.
July in Bali
July is usually the busiest month to visit Bali, but for good reason, and that’s because you’ll be enjoying the best weather of the year.
But as well as enjoying sunny, clear skies and zero rain, you’ll be sharing the beaches and resorts with hundreds of thousands of holidaymakers. People flock here from Europe, America and more than anywhere else, from Australia.
Prices will be higher for flights and hotels, but if you do want to escape the crowds then head north.
This is a great time to experience a side of Bali that most miss, and by exploring the black sand beaches of Amed or the coast and jungle of Bali Barat National Park, you’ll see how the south of Bali was a few decades previously.
August in Bali
Much like July, August is always super busy in Bali. The weather is again beautiful, with clear skies and sunny days, and it’s a great time for lounging on beaches and drinking cold Bintang Beers.
If you want to escape the holiday crowds though then plan a trip north, and visit the beautiful coastline in more rustic destinations such as Lovina or Amed, where tourism has only recently begun to develop.
There are great snorkeling and diving up north too, including some famous shipwrecks, and as it’s the height of the dry season the water will be beautifully clear.
September in Bali
September can be the best time to visit Bali if you want a great mix of good weather and smaller crowds.
Things will still be busy and flights will be more expensive than the later shoulder season months. But you’ll save money compared to the true high season and have fewer people around when you explore touristy destinations such as Ubud, Kuta or the Nusa Islands.
October in Bali
October is a great shoulder season month, but the dry weather is coming to a close. There are more and more rainy days, but these can be unpredictable.
If you’re in Bali for two weeks, you’ll most likely have enough dry days to make the most of your visit.
Enjoy the south and the more traditional beach areas, get cultural in Ubud or escape to the north to see a wilder side of the island.
Bali Wet Season
The wet season in Bali runs from November through to April, corresponding with the southern hemisphere summer and fall.
It’s tropical, and that means that while it does rain hard when it rains, showers and storms are brief but fierce.
The rainy season can be a great time to miss the crowds but give December and January a miss because these two months are still incredibly popular despite the wet weather.
November in Bali
November is when the rainy season starts in Bali, but just how much rain there will be, can vary.
You’ll have good odds of having lovely sunny days still, and it’s a great time to visit because you’ll miss the Christmas crowds who are just around the corner.
You can get wonderful deals on flights and hotels through November, and you’ll still be able to snorkel and dive before the water gets too cloudy from the rains.
It’s getting hotter, but take a trip to the summit of Mount Batur and you’ll be able to cool down after a challenging hike to the top of Bali’s iconic volcano.
December in Bali
December is usually the rainiest month of the year, and weather-wise, this really is not the best time to visit Bali.
The tourist crowds would beg to differ though because while you might get soaked, it’s also incredibly warm still.
That draws over the Christmas crowds seeking winter sun from Europe and North America , and it still brings over the Aussie crowds looking for a cheap getaway.
It’s a lively time to be in Bali, and it’s not a bad place at all to spend Christmas and New Year, but be prepared for high prices and lots of other travelers and tourists.
January in Bali
January can be just as busy as December and unfortunately, just as rainy. This is the height of the wet season, but again, it doesn’t put off the crowds.
If you do visit, then the southern beaches and classic resort areas are best avoided. Head north instead, and find a bit more peace and quiet in the lesser-visited parts of Bali.
February in Bali
In February, the weather starts to cool down slightly and the rainy days begin to disappear, but it’s still very much the wet season.
It’s a great shoulder season month, right after the Christmas crowds go home, and you can enjoy many of Bali’s best sights with fewer people around.
Head to the waterfalls, as they will be in their element, and the jungle will be lush and green from all the rainfall over the last few months.
March in Bali
March can be a wet month or it can be a dry month, the weather gods in Bali are unpredictable this time of the year.
It will be a quiet month on the tourism front though and that makes it the best time to visit Bali if you’re a fan of shoulder season travel.
The Christmas and New Year crowds are long gone, and the dry season tourists are a few months away.
You can get great deals on flights and resorts if you book in advance, and you’ll find that lots of beach areas in the south such as Kuta, Seminyak or Canggu are quieter.
This is Bali though, so if you’re here for the social aspects then there are always other travelers around to hang out with.
April in Bali
April is a great shoulder month, but be careful of the Easter Holidays in Australia or Europe, as Bali becomes a popular holiday break destination during this time of the year.
You could enjoy almost all sunny days or conversely it could also rain a lot, but that’s the gamble in April as the rainy season draws to a close.
It’s the tail end of the wet season though and Bali will be blooming, making this a great month to visit the waterfalls and the rice paddies before they start to dry out again.
Visit Ubud for cultural festivals and then hike through the rice terraces nearby.

Travel advisory november 13, 2023, belize - level 2: exercise increased caution.
Exercise increased caution in Belize due to crime . Some areas have increased risk. Please read the entire Travel Advisory.
Country Summary : Violent crime – such as sexual assault, home invasions, armed robberies, and murder – are common even during daylight hours and in tourist areas. A significant portion of violent crime is gang related. Due to high crime, travelers are advised to exercise caution while traveling to the south side of Belize City. Local police lack the resources and training to respond effectively to serious criminal incidents. Most crimes remain unresolved and unprosecuted.
Read the country information page for additional information on travel to Belize.

Belize City – Level 3: Reconsider Travel
U.S. citizens should avoid traveling to Belize City. Historically much of the violent crime in Belize occurs in the Southside of Belize City and is gang related. This area (south of Haulover Creek Canal and continuing south to Fabers Road) does not overlap the typical tourism areas. All visitors should maintain an elevated level of due diligence and reduce their exposure to crime-related risks by practicing good safety and security practices.

DO NOT USE THEIR SERVICES! This day and age do not use a travel agency.. during a pandemic where airlines are not charging for cancellation fee they are charging you a $125 per person cancellation service fee!! WTH is up with that! Only reason why I even went with them is because my parents, uncle and aunt wanted to ensure tickets and visa. They also refused to refund seat charges as well. Lost $375 in cancellation fee and additional 250 for picking seats (Total of $625) all which the airline itself is not charging and giving full refund. Older generations, you should not have to go to these people to lose money! THEY DON'T EVEN DESERVE A 1 STAR BECAUSE THEY ARE SCAMMING PEOPLE EVEN IN THE DIRE STATE OF A SHUT DOWN where people are losing jobs!
Chi mai is great. She is quick and helpful. She will accommodate your schedule as well. Have already purchased serval international airplane tickets from her. Call her anytime and she will try to assist you!
I don't understand how they run business. The people at this place have no creditability. I came over 4 times during business hours just to pick up my passport (I even called ahead 2 of the times) but they were never in the office.

Dubai begins construction of 'world's largest' airport with 400 gates, 5 parallel runways
N EW DELHI: Dubai on Sunday announced the commencement of the construction of "world's largest" airport terminal at a cost of $35 billion with 400 gates and five parallel runaways.
"Today, we approved the designs for the new passenger terminals at Al Maktoum International Airport, and commencing construction of the building at a cost of AED 128 billion as part of Dubai Aviation Corporation's strategy," Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai and prime minister of the United Arab Emirates, said on X.
"Al Maktoum International Airport will enjoy the world's largest capacity, reaching up to 260 million passengers. It will be five times the size of the current Dubai International Airport, and all operations at Dubai International Airport will be transferred to it in the coming years," the post read.
According to the authorities, the airport has the capacity to handle 260 million passengers annually.
"As we build an entire city around the airport in Dubai South, demand for housing for a million people will follow. It will host the world's leading companies in the logistics and air transport sectors", Sheikh Mohammed said.
Scheduled to be ready within 10 years, the project will ensure "continuous and stable development for our children and their children in turn," he said.
"Dubai will be the world's airport, its port, its urban hub, and its new global center", he added.
Earlier in February, Dubai stated its highest-ever tourist numbers, with 17.15 million foreign overnight visits in 2023. Average hotel occupancy was around 77%.
