Decanted for 3 hours Quite spicy on the nose, though it wasn't so on PnP at all. Caradmom, ripe black currant, ripe black cherry, bay leaf, tobacco, tomato leaf, toasted almonds and a slight hint of VA on the nose. Intensity of aromas is high. Palate sshows a lot of ripe black currant, plus fresh cracked black pepper, tomato leaf, coffee grounds, tobacco and burnt orange peel. Medium + intensity of flavors. Texturally rounded and a joy to drink. Medium + body with lovely medium + acid and lingering medium tannin. There is definitely a divided opnion on this here on CT. I loved it and found it among the best cru Bourgeois I've had recently. I've had classified Margaux recently that was WAY worse than this. It really needed air, though!

This seems to have divided opinion; I'm on the side of those who expected better, given the Chateau and the vintage. It has a bright colour, nose a bit indistinct apart from some menthol notes and a rather thin, cherry monotone palate, with a shortish finish. It's not exactly tired, just rather dull and lacking in zip and I can't see that changing with further time. There are so many better Cru Bourgeois out there for similar money, such as Capbern or d'Aighuile, so no need to seek this out.

This is very good on a pop and pour half bottle. Med red colour, coming in slightly from the rim. Ribeena blackcurrant cordial nose, some dusty leather and wooden wine box, some oily woody herbs (rosemary?), Menthol, and very pretty and lifted purple flowers (violets- i got what I came for at this stage). On entry it is clean and med bodied. Bright and vibrant red and black fruits come first and give a modern feel. Follows through the mid palate to charry and meaty notes, with a touch of char and gravel. It's thinner and leaner than the nose suggests. It's very aromatic. Graphite and oak through the finish, then menthol and red and black fruit. Supple, meaty tannins grip. The aftertaste a sweep of all that pretty floral that came through the nose with a slight green capsicum and menthol note giving a slightly bitter and tacking grip. This is very typically Margaux, purple flowers, medium bodied elegance, and it has good length. My only complaint is that it lacks a touch of density. Would have loved to have seen this with a touch more ripeness and body. Modern, elegant, pretty and typical of appelation. This is very good now, a year or two more might benefit to fill out the middle and hide the slight bitterness of tannin still there. It's approachable now, if I had more I'd look again in 2 years. Opened in the morning for dinner.

Very average for me. Nothing clearly fouled here, but it never really got anywhere special either. Basic red cherry-ish nose, similar flavor profile, and short finish. Just kind of flat and thin. There's much better stuff out there.

2015 Chateau La Tour de Mons Margaux

I’m always a little skeptical of these (rather) inexpensive bottles that are from premier regions where they should cost a lot more. It makes me think we’re buying the 2nd and 3rd tier (or 4th tier) grapes from a good region, when we could get the 1st tier grapes from a slightly lesser region. And that’s the game, figuring out what might be the better buy.
But I knew 2015 was a blockbuster year in Bordeaux and many of my favorite Bordeaux properties are seeing prices rise quickly with the buzz around the vintage (Pontet-Canet, Haut Bailley, Cos, Pichon Longueville Baron, La Mission Haut Brion, Chevalier).
So I thought it’d be fun to try a Margaux from Costco priced at $25.99, which isn’t that good, figuring it’s online for a few bucks less. But retail at Total Wine is a few bucks more. So the price is fair, especially for a bottle that received 90+ points from most all of the wine critics.
You have to give it some time to open up. It’s super closed upon first pour, but after an hour in the decanter, it comes alive. I also popped the decanter in the fridge for about 10 minutes before consuming too, which helps cool the wine ever so slightly which I think enhances its appeal, at least for me.
The wine is signature Bordeaux, a little stinky at first, barnyard, mushrooms with some earthy spice; medium in body, the wine is gentle and light in the mouth; flavor is rather elegant in its delivery, spicy cherry, wild strawberry flavors; finishes dry and sticky.
For a step up from your average $10-$15 bottle, I think this is a good place to go. Most other Margaux wines will set you back twice the price of this one, and might only be a smidge better. I’m liking this wine the more and more it develops with air. Enjoy.

Cabernet Sauvignon. Cabernet Sauvignon, native to Bordeaux, has thick blue skins, giving the resulting wines plentiful tannins and phenolics and making them particularly ageworthy. Over the past 50 years, Cabernet Sauvignon has spread to all of the New World's major winegrowing regions, and it remains one of France's most important grapes.
Ch Cheval Blanc de St Emilion represented 95.1% of the harvest, leaving no reason to make Petit Cheval in 2015. The 2015 La Tour de Mons has a very perfumed bouquet with violet infused red fruit, more blueberry emerging with aeration. There is still some oak to be assimilated but it is in sync with the fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannin, fresh and focused. A precise and quite mineral-driven finish lingers long in the mouth.
The 2015 La Tour de Mons continues to show well. The aromatics are less exuberant than they showed in September 2017 but are still pure and refined with wild strawberry and raspberry. The palate is very well balanced with plenty of cedar-infused black fruit, fine tannin and a crisp, linear but sustained minerally finish. This comes highly recommended.Robert Parker Neal Martin | 92 RP-NMThe ...
