A handy guide to Glastonbury 2023: survival tips from someone who's done it

Glastonbury revealed the bulk of its main festival line-up toda y, featuring an all-male headline set that has drawn criticism from music fans online with Arctic Monkeys, Guns N' Roses, and Elton John announced as the weekend's top dogs. Still, there's much to be excited about.

The women are there and you don't need to squint to find them. Lizzo, Lana Del Rey, Blondie, Raye, Weyes Blood, Christine and the Queens and heaps more are billed for the megawatt festival which returns this June 21 - 25. And, to be fair, festival co-organizer Emily Eavis told  the Guardian  that gender balance was a priority and a female headliner was initially planned but eventually canceled due to a conflicting touring schedule. She added: "It changes all the time. But next year it's looking like we've got two female headliners, so fingers crossed."

Now you know who you're going to see, more or less, and your ticket are in the bag (tickets went on sale in October and sold out within minutes) the only thing you need to worry about is how you're going to experience it all in one go. And the rain, of course... there's always the rain.

With some strategic and sensible packing, the right attitude and a versatile wardrobe, you can not only survive one of the most iconic music festivals in the world but thrive in it too. We're here to guide you through Glastonbury until the very last song plays on Sunday night.

Glastonbury guide - With fully loaded backpacks and camping stuff revellers arrive at Worthy Farm on June 23, 2010 in Glastonbury, England. A person wearing a brown suede jacket who's long hair is hiding there face lugs a loaded trailer uphill towards the campsite.

Pack like a pro: don't forget the snacks.

When packing your bag, the quickest way to eliminate non-essential items from the pile is to remember that everything you bring, you have to bring back with you. Enthusiasm carries you and your heavy luggage through Glastonbury's gates on Wednesday morning, but when you're a brittle shell of a human on Monday morning, you deserve an easy exit. Limit your belongings to one backpack, and one holdall bag full of snacks, and leave one hand free to share the weight of the tent with your camping gang. Need more guidance? Check out our guide on how to pack for any festival .

Getting there will be a trip

No matter where you're coming from, you have a long journey ahead of you and can expect serious traffic. If you're using the coach service, use this time to stock up on shut-eye. There will be plenty of time for drinking, so hold your horses until you've found the perfect camping spot (up next). If you're driving, be very kind to your designated driver. Buy them treats, shower them with praise, and let them have the final say on the playlist .

The perfect camping spot should be uphill

It's easy to get stressed out about snagging a spot in the coolest campsite but each area fills up on a first-come, first-serve basis, so if you don't get your top campsite, be tactical in where you pitch your tent. Our number one tip is to aim for an uphill spot to avoid any possible flooding. The rest, is about compromise.

If you camp along a pathway, you'll hear snippets of hilarious conversations all weekend long which might keep you awake at night but will make for good anecdotes later. If you camp near the portaloos, you'll have to face the wrath of the stench but preemptively get ahead of the queues at peak times. If you camp near the entrance, you'll have a long walk into the main arena but your exit on Monday will be made a bit easier. Before you commit to hammering in those pegs, let it be known that Pennard Hill Ground is the 'lively' campsite, Lime Kiln & Hitchen Hill are generally on the quieter side.

8 best hikes to discover England's beautiful countryside

The scene in the Shangri-La section of the Glastonbury after a long night of dancing. Revellers make their way through the mud. A blonde woman sporting pink wellies with leopard trim is happily wading through

Function versus fashion: prepare for rain and mud

There are two types of Glastonbury; the wet kind, and the dry kind. If the forecast is for rain, don't cheap out on a raincoat or underestimate the power of a solid welly boot. The wonderful thing about wet gear is that you can rock your best-sequined garms beneath a waterproof exterior and do a sparkling reveal once you've found shelter in a dance tent. If you're pairing wellies with shorts, wear knee-length socks or roll your boots down because calf burn is real. If the sun does decide to make an appearance, keep layers tied around your waist because sun-scorched skin at night is no reveler's delight.

Create your own first aid kit: here's what you need

During your five-day stint, you will endure the following: sleepless nights, irregular meal times, dance marathons, explosive hangovers, bouts of dehydration and the constant threat of hayfever. While prevention is the best cure, preparation is the best remedy. Pack a ziplock bag with painkillers, anti-nausea medication, gentle laxatives, electrolyte powders, antihistamines, plasters, heartburn medication and the all-important anti-diarrhea medication. You and your bowels will communicate like never before at this festival.

The most essential 'essentials' are...essential

At all times, have the following on your person: a reusable water bottle, toilet paper, hand sanitizer and sun lotion. Bring a portable charger pack but remember that your phone is not an essential item – live in the moment! Phones are infamously unreliable in festival situations, so wear a watch and on your first day there, pick out different landmarks or stalls that will act as your official meeting spots all weekend long. If your gig plans vary from your friends' plans, all you have to say is, "see you around midnight in front of the katsu curry stand," rather than constantly trying to find signal. Or, even better, bring a tall, personalized flag so your friends can spot you from the back end of the Pyramid Stage.

Fight the FOMO and pace yourself...

With over 1100 acres and close to 100 music venues or stages to explore, you might feel like you have to be everywhere at once and do everything that Glasto veterans told you to do. But, a little tip from the top, you can't do everything. Due to the size of the site and with over 210,000 people to wade through, splitting half a set might suck the enjoyment out of the night. So be flexible with your timetable and accept that you simply cannot be in two places at once. Fun is on tap 24 hours a day at Glastonbury, so if you need to sneak a nap in during the day, fight the FOMO and rest safe in the knowledge there's a lot of fun in your near future.

Watch the sunrise at Stone Circle. Warm-up by the fires of Arcadia's Pangea. Watch Yusuf / Cat Stevens perform at the Sunday 'legend' slot on the Pyramid Stage. Find the tunnel under the railway track that connects the Greenpeace Field and Green Futures. Get into Shangri-La early and got lost in there for the night. Dance until 6am in the NYC Downlow. Find the new hidden gem micro venue No Average Groove in the Silver Hayes area. But most importantly, throw out the rulebook, and enjoy your lucky self.

About Glastonbury

Glastonbury Tor Sunrise, Somerset

Home to beautiful landscapes, Celtic mythology and quirky stores, Glastonbury has something for everyone.

With a population of around 34,000 people, it’s also home to the Glastonbury festival, one of the UK’s biggest music events.

The town has fascinating Pagan and Druid connections, with it being alleged that it was the resting place of King Arthur and that the Holy Grail was buried at the foot of the famous Tor.

Plus, the Abbey was once one of the grandest religious buildings in the west country – sadly, now only ruins remain.

There’s so much history waiting to be tapped into in Glastonbury!

Where is Glastonbury?

Glastonbury is located in Somerset, about 26 miles south of Bristol and 26 miles south west of Bath. This is a beautiful part of the country; south of the Mendip Hills AONB and in the heart of Somerset. Plus, it’s advantageous position makes it the perfect day trip from Bristol or Bath!

How to get to Glastonbury

A lane lined with spring verge flowers leads down to the Somerset Levels, with Glastonbury Tor beyond.

Driving directions

The easiest way to get to Glastonbury is, by far, to drive.

From Bristol, you’ll drive in a southerly direction on the B3114 through the Mendips and you’ll eventually reach Wells. From here, it’s a short drive to Glastonbury.

It’s south west from Bath; you’ll drive through Shepton Mallet to reach here.

If you’re driving from London, you can drive along the A303 to Podimore and then turn right and drive in a northerly direction.

Public transport

The Mendip Explorer bus connects Bristol with Glastonbury, but it does take an hour and 35 minutes, so it’s difficult for a day trip if you’re travelling from anywhere other than Bristol!

However, if you’re doing a multi-day trip, you could take a train from Bristol and then catch the Mendip Explorer.

Things to do in Glastonbury

Climb up glastonbury tor.

Glastonbury Tor in Somerset, South West England

Steeped in myth and legend, Glastonbury Tor is nothing short of attention-grabbing.

It’s one of the most iconic landmarks in the West Country, and as it towers over the Somerset Levels, you can see it from miles!

Plus, from the top, you can take in vistas of Dorset, Wiltshire and Wales.

Find the 15th-century church of St Michael at the top.

Close up of Glastonbury Tor, Somerset, South West England

One of the most spiritual places in the country, Glastonbury Tor was a place of pagan worship. Plus, it has connections with the legendary King Arthur . It’s also called the Isle of Avalon, which is where he was buried.

There are also Christian connections. Joseph, one of Jesus’ disciples, is said to have buried the Holy Grail at the base of the tor.

It’s well worth the walk up to enjoy the immense view from the top! It takes about 15 minutes, and it’s quite steep but is manageable for most people.

Glastonbury Tor is owned by the national trust, but it’s free to enter and walk around.

Have a drink at Chalice Well

The Vesica Pool in the Chalice Well Gardens in Glastonbury.

Chalice Well is located at the bottom of Glastonbury Tor.

It’s a natural spring that’s believed to have appeared at the location where the Holy Grail (which also means chalice) was buried by Joseph of Arimathea, one of Jesus’. disciples.

As legend goes, Jesus drank from this chalice at his last supper and drops of his blood fell into it during the crucifixion. So, as far as religious items go, it’s one of the most important.

The well also has pagan connections.

Sitting amongst the gardens, Chalice Well is a place for contemplation and relaxation. The water that gushes from the well is rusty red and tastes like iron; this is apparently due to the iron nails at the crucifixion.

It’s believed that they are healing waters, offering health benefits to anybody who takes a sip.

You can also find the healing pools here. These are open for anybody who wants to paddle, and are also a place of healing.

It costs £5 for adults to enter Chalice Well (which is quite impressive when you consider the religious aspect of it!).

The White Spring

Close to Chalice Well is another water source: The White Spring.

This is a calcium-rich well where, legend has it, King Arthur was once healed.

It was then used as a Victorian reservoir and water source for Glastonbury.

It’s free to fill your bottle with water from the white spring, and it’s also a lovely place for reflection and contemplation.

It’s staffed by volunteers, so it isn’t always open, but definitely pop by if it’s open before or after you summit Glastonbury Tor.

Explore Glastonbury Abbey

The historic ruins of Glastonbury Abbey in Somerset, England.

Dating back to the 8th century, Glastonbury Abbey was once one of the wealthiest and most powerful monasteries in England, reaching its pinnacle in the 14th century.

It controlled most of the Somerset Levels region at one point, and of course, it drew people from all over to the town, and is part of the reason why it developed as it did.

Then, a little something called the Dissolution of the Monasteries happened!

This was when Henry VIII (the king who beheaded two of his six wives) decided to break with Rome and form the Church of England so he could get a divorce (and marry his second wife, who he subsequently beheaded).

Like many monasteries all over the nation, Glastonbury Abbey was a victim. As was Richard Whiting , the last abbot of the monastery, who met a grisly end by being hung on the top of Glastonbury Tor.

After the dissolution of the monasteries, the building was stripped of lead and dressed stones and was passed from person to person, used for a few purposes, until it was declared a ruin in the 18th century.

However, the ruins still stand, and they’re worth a visit while you’re exploring the town!

It costs £11 for adult entry to Glastonbury Abbey, and up to two kids can go free with each paying adult.

Visit Glastonbury’s quirky shops

Glastonbury, England - April 18, 2011: Main street in Glastonbury, Somerset. Glastonbury is a town in southwest England. It is known for its ancient and medieval sites.

Glastonbury town is full of weird and wonderful shops.

Here, you can buy goods like tarot cards, crystals and books about phsycics!

Popular shops include:

  • The Crystal Man: This is one of the best places in Glastonbury to buy crystals and learn about their healing properties.
  • Facets of Avalon: This is a popular jewellery shop.
  • Midgard Craft: Purchase lots of artwork here with various designs.

Have a drink at one of the South West’s most historical pubs

Glastonbury’s Pilgrims Inn was, as the name suggests, constructed to house and feed visitors who came to the abbey.

Claiming to be the oldest purpose-built public house in South West England, it dates back to the late 15th century and is a Grade I listed building.

Unfortunately for the landlord at the time, the Dissolution of the Monasteries happened only a few decades after!

Nowadays, it serves up traditional pub grub and local beer. Plus, you can even stay the night at the attached George Hotel!

travel info glastonbury

As Glastonbury sits nestled into some of Somerset’s most beautiful countryside, it’s unsurprising that there are some incredible hiking trails here!

If you’re staying a few days, you can enjoy a few of the best walks in the Mendip and Somerset Levels area.

However, if you’re just looking for one, Monarch’s Way is a long-distance hiking trail that’s about 8 miles or 13 kilometres long. It’s mostly flat, taking in the countryside atmosphere of the Somerset Levels.

Once you reach Wells, you can enjoy all of the attractions there before taking the 77 or 376 bus back to Glastonbury.

Attend Glastonbury festival

Glastonbury, United Kingdom - June 27, 2014: Stormy skies can't keep the crowds away from the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury Festival in Somerset, England.

One of the best things to do in Glastonbury is, unsurprisingly, to go to the famous festival ! Usually regarded as the best festival in the UK, this is a celebration of all different types of music, with lots of other amusements and events.

However, be aware that it’s not an easy festival to get tickets for; usually, tickets open far in advance and tickets sell out in minutes!

Watching the sunset over the flags by the Other Stage at Glasto '15

In fact, it is such a difficult festival to get tickets for that the phrase “it’s as difficult as getting Glastonbury tickets” is now part of the British vernacular!

If you want to attend Glastonbury festival , keep an eye on their website to see when tickets will be released, and then try to reserve them off of multiple devices at the same time.

Places to visit near Glastonbury

View of vicars' close in Wells, Somerset, England, UK

One of the country’s smallest cities, Wells is a short drive or bus ride away from Glastonbury; but it’s world’s away in atmosphere.

While Glastonbury is renowned for its mythical connections and is famous for its historical, grand buildings, with the Cathedral, the Bishop’s Palace and Vicar’s Close, which is the oldest purely residential street in the country, at centre stage.

Birds eye view of the road leading through Cheddar Gorge, Somerset, South West England

Sitting in the southern part of the Mendip Hills, Cheddar Gorge is dramatic, vibrant and spectacular.

It’s the biggest gorge in the country, with panoramic views over the nearby lake and the rolling hills.

But that’s not all that’s on offer in Cheddar . The delightful town has a broad range of attractions.

Enjoy plenty of shops and restaurants; the best of which is the cheddar cheese company.

Yes, this is where Cheddar comes from! I’d definitely recommend trying some cave-matured cheddar while you’re here.

travel info glastonbury

The Mendips AONB is a network of hills sprawling from just south of Bristol to Wells and from Weston-super-Mare to Shepton Mallet.

This region isn’t overly touristy (most visitors are Bristol or Somerset locals!) but you can find plenty of wonderful hikes from any parking space.

I recommend Blackdown Hill (the highest point of the Mendips!) or Three Priddy Droves.

See all of the best things to do in the Mendips here.

Pulteney Bridge in Bath, Somerset

A Roman Bath that’s 2000 years old, an Abbey that was restored after the Dissolution of the Monasteries and dozens of Georgian terraces that look like life-sized Bridgerton: Bath has something for everybody .

Bath is famous for its history and architectural beauty, but it’s a wonderful spa break too, with the Thermae Bath Spa and the McDonald Bath Spa hotel, which is the only hotel in the country with naturally heated waters!

travel info glastonbury

Bristol is an underrated city (I know, I lived there for six years!).

Home to a wide range of attractions including the SS Great Britain which was once the biggest ship in the world and street art from Banksy its culture is part seafaring-focused, part modern and quirky.

Bristol has one of the best food scenes in the country, with world foods from every corner of the globe, thanks to its diverse population.

It’s also home to an immense amount of history, spanning from Medival times (the old city still retains its Medieval layout!) to the present day.

Is Glastonbury worth visiting?

Glastonbury is one of the most unique places to visit in the UK – so YES, it’s absolutely worth it, whether the festival is on or not!

Its connections with King Arthur, beautiful gardens to explore and Medieval history in the centre all make it very worthy of a place on your South West England bucket list.

The magical town of Glastonbury is worth a visit any time of year! Whether you want to see the beautiful abbey, summit up the tor, have some quiet healing at Chalice Well or walk around the high street, there’s so much to do in the ancient town. Definitely add it to your Somerset itinerary!

33 Crucial Tips For Your First Glastonbury Festival

May 12, 2022 By Paul Farrugia 8 Comments

33 crucial tips for your first Glastonbury Festival . I did not plan at all for my first Glastonbury . I had no idea how big the site was, where to camp or what to take. Even though it was the best 5 days of my life I could have done it better.

I am about to head to my 9th Glasto in 2023 and over the years I have picked up essential tips to make Glastonbury easy and amazing. I have also asked Glastonbury Veterans for their advice. I hope they make your Glastonbury experience just as easy and amazing too.

What To Take To Glastonbury Festival?

Crucial Tips For Your First Glastonbury Festival

I have written a detailed guide on what to take to Glasto here: the ultimate Glastonbury Packing List .

1) The number one thing that made my Glastonbury’s easier was taking a sturdy trolley . Being able to load most of my stuff on the trolley and not carry it was a godsend. When I am in the queue to get in, the trolley does the work. No putting down and picking up all my gear.

I used to be exhausted on day 1 of Glastonbury, but not anymore. (Taking a trolley only really works if you are driving to the festival because they are too big for trains and coaches.)

Arriving at Glastonbury Festival

Listen to Worthy FM when you get closer to Glastonbury

2) If you are driving to Glastonbury, refill up your car just before getting to Worthy Farm . That way, you won’t have to worry about running out of fuel when you leave on Monday. Leaving Glastonbury Festival takes a lot longer than arriving so it is better to be safe than sorry.

3) Tune into Worthy FM as you get closer to the festival site. It really gets you in the mood for the festival.

4) Arrive on Tuesday. We always start our Glastonbury on Wednesday. To make life easier we book a nearby b&b or pub to stay in on Tuesday night. That way we don’t have a big drive on Wednesday morning. It also means we are refreshed and full of energy.

Camping at Glastonbury

5) Camping and Parking. It is a good idea to decide on what area you want to camp in before arriving at Glastonbury. If you haven’t decided yet, check out this post on where to camp at Glastonbury . Once you have decided you can plan your route to the festival.

There are two routes, east and west. Look at the Glastonbury Map and see where your campsite is located. Then try to park as close as possible to your chosen site. There is another map with the car parking areas here: Glasto Parking .

The reason this is important is that if you park in the wrong area it could mean that you are carrying your gear for an extra hour!

6) Leave some clean clothes and trainers in your car. If it is a wet Glastonbury there is nothing worse than driving all the way home in wet clothes.

Inside Glastonbury

Inside Glastonbury

You have found your campsite and pitched your tent. Now the fun can truly begin.

7) Don’t camp near footpaths, toilets or at the bottom of a hill. Why? Noise, smells and mud.

8) Once you have set up camp, have a look around you to see landmarks. Better still, pin your tent location on the What3words app . It took me over an hour to locate my tent at my first Glastonbury.

9) Change your mobile home screen to the mobile numbers of people you are with and say if found please call these numbers. That way, if you lose your mobile people, can call your mates to give it to you. So many people have found this system useful at Glasto.

10) On Wednesday and Thursday explore the site. The main stages don’t open until Friday morning so the first two days are perfect for discovering areas of Glasto that you don’t see on TV.

11) Try to catch some music on the smaller stages, especially on Thursday. We have discovered some great artists like Beans on Toast and The Undercover Hippy this way.

12) Agree on a meeting/lost point at all the main stages. We always meet our mates at the same points. Not everyone has the same taste in music. We would all wander off to see our favourites and then head back to the Pyramid Stage to catch a headliner. Having the same meeting point makes life easier.

13) Use the lockups! The lockups are open 24hr a day and are free. A donation would be welcomed though. Leave any valuables there and put your mind at ease.

Glastonbury Toilets

14) Try to use toilets away from the main areas. It is better to walk an extra 10 minutes to a quieter spot and have cleaner toilets than experience the hell of overflowing long drops.

15) Pace yourself! Don’t peak too early. We have seen this countless times. You don’t want to go mad on Wednesday and then not have the energy for the weekend. We try to peak by Saturday night and start to come down on Sunday.

16) Climb to The Crows Nest at night to have views of the whole festival below you.

The Stone Circle, Glastonbury Festival

17) Stay up all night at The Stone Circle to watch the sunrise over the Vale of Avalon. Expect a few people naked, drumming and campfires.

William's Green

18) 2023 update. Now that William’s green has turned into CarHenge we suggest trying to discover some secret bits of Glastonbury instead. Or doing a pub crawl around the best bars at Glastonbury .

Head to William’s Green area on Thursday afternoon for a mass power ballad sing-along. It will be the first but not the last mass sing-along of the festival.

19) Try to discover the mythical Underground Piano Bar.

20) Look out for secret sets. There are always secret sets at Glastonbury. We have seen The Killers, Radiohead and Laura Marling perform secret gigs. If you follow secret glasto on Twitter you won’t go wrong. They always seem to know when and where the secret sets are.

Block 9, Glastonbury

21) Make sure you head to the South East Corner and take time to explore. There are loads of hidden venues in Block 9 , Shangri La and The Unfairground. Then the next day, go to The Healing Fields for a gentle start to the day.

Leaving the festival

Love the farm, leave no trace

22) Love the farm, leave no trace. Take everything home with you! Worthy Farm is a working farm, please make sure the festival has a future.

23) Have lots of patience! It is going to take a lot longer to leave the festival than to arrive. Tune into Worthy FM again to listen to the traffic situation and stories from the festival.

Do you have any other tips for Glasto first-timers? Please, let us know in the comments.

Tips From Glastonbury Veterans

24) Be prepared for the size of the festival. It can be very disorientating at times. – Ben.

25) Always bring throat sweets/ strepsils!! Nothing worse than losing your voice and having that sore throat all weekend and can be expensive to buy on-site! – Katie.

26) Advice for newbies – break out of your comfort zone in some way – it’s the perfect place to discover something new about yourself – Peter.

27) My advice to newbies is to DO WHATEVER HAPPENS NEXT. There’ll always be something somewhere going on and you can’t stick to a rigid plan. You can see bands elsewhere but you can’t see Glastonbury Festival anywhere else! – Laura.

28) USE THE BINS!!!! Do everything twice. Grow your hair. Wear a princess or wedding dress and glitter. Talk to strangers – Landan.

29) Expect it to rain if it doesn’t it’s a bonus! – Lizzy.

30) Leave “you” behind and discover a newer you by going with the flow, the experience will change you. Get walking weeks before as it will help you – Margaret

31) Please don’t just take wellies, take some decent walking boots, the amount of welly chaffing must be agony – Emmet.

32) If The Railway Track goes on to the one-way system and you’re coming from The Park cut through the Green Futures area and go that way. It saves you from being herded like cattle – James

33) Don’t leave too early, too tired, or worse for wear if you’re the driver. It can be fatal – Glastonbury Advent.

The best tip for me was don’t wear open toe shoes even on the hottest day, there’s some rocky stoney paths very dusty. And best of all from a local on our first Glastonbury he said ‘don’t chase your tail’ ie. Going back and forth trying to catch every artist you want to see, it just doesn’t work and you end up missing out if anything.

Great tips Laura! If it’s a hot one and I know I am going to be in front of one stage for a while, I take my boots off. That feeling is sooooo good! 🙂

Great tip’s especially the trolley, however we are part of the recycling crew and that particular trolley is not very durable and when your wheels come off it’s a nightmare.

February 23, 2023 at 11:08

Cheers Will. We must be lucky, we have had our trolley since 2010 and had no problems! I hope this doesn’t jinx it!

Any luggage or carts you’ve seen that are GOOD? I’d like to invest in one as it’s my first time driving. Willing to spend good money on a good cart!

May 25, 2023 at 09:25

Check out our packing list post. We have used the same trolley for 8 Glasto’s.

On the southern edge of the Mendips and six miles south of Wells , Glastonbury , famed for its annual music festival, is built around the evocative set of ruins belonging to its former abbey. The town lies at the heart of the so-called Isle of Avalon , a region rich with mystical associations, and for centuries it has been one of the main Arthurian sites of the West Country – today it’s an enthusiastic centre for all manner of New Age cults.

Refreshing English Countryside Break

Outside of London, England is known with a countryside full of history, picturesque villages, patchwork hills, and winding country roads. Explore the countryside with its castles, parks, and historical cities such as Oxford.

Aside from its mythological origins, Glastonbury Abbey can claim to be the country’s oldest Christian foundation , dating back to the seventh century and possibly earlier.

Enlarged by St Dunstan in the tenth century, it became the richest Benedictine abbey in the country. Three Anglo-Saxon kings (Edmund, Edgar and Edmund Ironside) were buried here, and the library had a far-reaching fame. Further expansion took place under the Normans, though most of the additions were destroyed by fire in 1184.

Rebuilt, the abbey was later a casualty of the Dissolution of the Monasteries in the 1530s, and the ruins, now hidden behind walls and nestled among grassy parkland, can only hint at its former extent. The most prominent remains are the transept piers and the shell of the Lady Chapel, with its carved figures of the Annunciation, the Magi and Herod.

The abbey’s choir holds what is alleged to be the tomb of Arthur and Guinevere . The discovery of two bodies in an ancient cemetery outside the abbey in 1191 was taken to confirm that here was, indeed, the mystic Avalon, and they were transferred here in 1278. Elsewhere in the grounds, the fourteenth-century abbot’s kitchen is the only monastic building to survive intact, with four huge corner fireplaces and a great central lantern above.

Behind the main entrance to the grounds, look out for the thorn tree that is supposedly a descendant of the original Glastonbury Thorn said to have sprouted from the staff of Joseph of Arimathea. Big-name concerts and drama productions take place in the abbey grounds in summer – check the website for details.

Glastonbury is, of course, best known for its music festival , which takes place most years over four days at the end of June outside the nearby village of Pilton. Having started as a small hippy affair in the 1970s, the festival has become one of the biggest in the country, without shedding too much of its alternative feel.

Bands range from huge acts such as Elbow to up-and-coming indie groups, via old hands such as U2, while performance art, circus, club nights and all manner of shenanigans take place around the sprawling complex. Though tickets cost around £200, they are snapped up almost immediately after going on sale in October.

Glastonbury Festival 2005 Campsite, UK

At the heart of the complex web of myths surrounding Glastonbury is the early Christian legend that the young Jesus once visited this site, a story that is not as far-fetched as it sounds. The Romans had a heavy presence in the area, mining lead in the Mendips, and one of these mines was owned by Joseph of Arimathea , a well-to-do merchant said to have been related to Mary. It’s not completely impossible that the merchant took his kinsman on one of his many visits to his property, in a period of Christ’s life of which nothing is recorded. It was this possibility to which William Blake referred in his Glastonbury Hymn , better known as Jerusalem : – “And did those feet in ancient times/Walk upon England’s mountains green?”

Another legend relates how Joseph was imprisoned for twelve years after the Crucifixion, miraculously kept alive by the Holy Grail , the chalice of the Last Supper, in which the blood was gathered from the wound in Christ’s side. The Grail, along with the spear which had caused the wound, were later taken by Joseph to Glastonbury, where he founded the abbey and commenced the conversion of Britain.

Glastonbury is also popularly identified with the mythical Avalon ; the story goes that King Arthur, having been mortally wounded in battle, sailed to Avalon where he was buried alongside his queen – somehow Glastonbury was taken to be the best candidate for the place.

Average temperatures in Glastonbury vary somewhat. Considering humidity, temperatures feel cold for about half of the year and otherwise nice with a chance of rain or snow throughout most of the year. The area is less temperate than some — in the 23rd percentile for pleasant weather — compared to tourist destinations worldwide. Weeks with ideal weather are listed above . If you’re looking for the very warmest time to visit Glastonbury, the hottest months are July, August, and then June. See average monthly temperatures below. The warmest time of year is generally late July where highs are regularly around 71.8°F (22.1°C) with temperatures rarely dropping below 50.5°F (10.3°C) at night.

Glastonbury Temperatures (Fahrenheit)

Glastonbury temperatures (celsius), “feels-like” temperatures.

The way we experience weather isn’t all about temperature. Higher temperatures affect us much more at higher humidity, and colder temperatures feel piercing with high winds. Our perceived temperatures factor in humidity and wind chill to better represent how hot or cold the day feels to a person.

Glastonbury Perceived Temperature (F)

Glastonbury perceived temperature (c), average glastonbury temperatures by month.

Daily highs (averaged for the month) usually give the best indication of the weather. A significantly lower mean and low generally just means it gets colder at night.

The Busiest and Least Crowded Months

The busiest month for tourism in Glastonbury, the United Kingdom is August, followed by July and September. Prices for hotels and flights will be most expensive during these months, though you can save if you purchase well in advance. Tourists are unlikely to visit Glastonbury in November. Those willing to visit at these times will likely find it the least expensive month.

Estimated Tourism by Month

Most popular months to visit, overall glastonbury travel experience by season, spring (march through may).

Humidity and temperatures combine to make this season feel moderately cold. Highs range from 65.5°F (18.6°C) and 49.7°F (9.8°C) with warmer temperatures in the later months. Rain is somewhat common with 5 to 6 days of significant precipitation per month. Spring is the slowest for tourism, which makes it a good time for those looking for deals.

Summer (June through August)

The middle-year months have comfortably cool weather with high temperatures that are comfortable. These months see moderate precipitation with 6 to 7 days of precipitation per month. June – August is the busiest season for tourism in Glastonbury, so lodging and other accommodations may cost more than usual.

Fall (September through November)

Fall daily highs range from 67.7°F (19.8°C) and 48.7°F (9.3°C), which will feel chilly given the humidity and wind. It rains or snows a significant amount: 4 to 8 days per month. Tourism is the second busiest during these months due to the weather, so hotels may be slightly higher priced.

Winter (December through February)

Weather is too cold this time of year in Glastonbury to be enjoyable for warm weather travelers. The average high during this season is between 49.7°F (9.8°C) and 45.3°F (7.4°C). On average, it rains or snows a fair amount: 7 to 10 times per month. These times of year are fairly slow with tourists.

Didn't get Glastonbury tickets? Here are other routes into the festival

E verybody who's ever tried to get Glastonbury tickets knows it's one of the most stressful experiences known to man. This year's tickets were snapped up in record time, selling out in under an hour when they went live on November 19.

"Tickets for Glastonbury 2024 have now Sold Out," tweeted the festival at 9:57am. "Our thanks to everyone who bought one and we're sorry to those of you who missed out, on a morning when demand greatly exceeded supply."

And yes, the resale is now over, but don’t despair. For those who still want to go, there are also some other (legal) routes into the festival, from charity stewarding, to manning one of Worthy Farm's many, many bars. And as applications for volunteer positions open, we've rounded up the best options for you below.

Look, the resale is one thing - but you could very well strike it lucky in one of the many prize draws happening right now. Vodafone’s free to play prize draw through their VeryMe Rewards system (more info on that here ) is one of the biggest, with 100 pairs of tickets up for grabs, but White Claw is running a prize draw, as is Tony’s Chocolonely in partnership with Oxfam. And if you’d rather not go out of your way, Clipper Tea is running a prize draw with special boxes of tea on offer at Co-op stores around the country. Get hunting.

Be a recycling hero

The Glastonbury recycling crew work during the festival, and their job is pretty much what you’d expect. Over the course of the weekend, you'll need to complete four six-hour shifts, either litter picking or sorting the recycling. Perks include free entry to the festival, free meals, and access to a private campsite with toilets and showers. However, you do need to have been recommended by a previous member of the team.

How to apply: check in on the Glasto Recycling Crew website here

Several on-site bars operate at Glastonbury, and it’s not even that hard to get on the squad. You’ll be pulling pints for thirsty festival-goers, and no prior experience is necessary: in exchange for a ticket, you'll do three eight-hour shifts over the five days of the festival. This used to be run by homelessness charity Shelter, but not this year: going forward, the bars will be staffed by Avalon Bars & Events.

How to apply: check Avalon's website to register your interest or email [email protected] for more information

Burger flippin’

Glastonbury abounds with food trucks; they all need to be staffed, right? While we can’t offer you a breakdown of all the food and drink stands, it’s always worth registering with a festival catering team or even contacting some of the stands directly – they have a limited number of free passes to give to employees, and you'll also get paid for your work.

Time to steward

Oxfam have been working at Glastonbury for around 25 years now, and with 2000-odd staff needed, they’re one of the most reliable ways to get into the festival. Roles include staffing the gates (ie. checking tickets), helping with campaigning or staffing the festival shop.

Volunteering here also comes with benefits: access to a staff campsite, free phone charging facilities, access to a marquee you can relax in and one free meal token per shift. Also, loos and hot showers: not a given at Glastonbury. Oxfam also runs a shuttle bus from Bristol Temple Meads station to the campsite, which only costs £33 – not bad.

It’s not just Oxfam, either: Oasis Carnival recruits volunteers for work (this usually means stewarding) outside the festival proper in exchange for tickets.

How to apply: check the Oxfam site here , and the Oasis Carnival site here

Car wrangling

Another role that actually lets you earn money (hooray!), CTM employ car parking staff over the festival period (from the Sunday before until the Monday after Glastonbury), making this a nice option for anybody that doesn’t mind wrangling the huge traffic jams that come with staging a massive music event at a farm.

Staff need to work a minimum of four 12-hour shifts, but if that appeals, then all the better.

How to apply: check out CTM’s website for more details

Those little water stands dotted around the festival site? Yep, they need people to run them, too. WaterAid runs a big operation at Glastonbury: in addition to manning the water stands, you’ll be cleaning sinks, talking with festival-goers about the charity and likely working with the Loo Crew, who are responsible for cleaning the loos and litter-picking.

Working here requires staff to complete four six-hour shifts – which, in the grand scheme of things, isn’t too bad – and pay a refundable deposit of £150.

WaterAid is also running a competition offering a pair of tickets as a prize: all you need to do is design a temporary tattoo that will be shortlisted by Emily Eavis and put to a public vote. The brief is “bold, scalable, no more than three colours” and incorporates WaterAid’s key mission of championing clean water and decent toilets. Check out the WaterAid website for more info.

How to apply: WaterAid’s site is open for applications here.

Be a medical volunteer

Alright, so this one actually requires some medical knowledge… but if that applies, then consider working in the festival’s medical tent. It requires medical, paramedic or first aider qualifications, but on the plus side, the pool of applicants will be smaller.

How to apply: check here

Wristband checking

Festaff is a volunteering-based organisation that supplies (as the name implies) festival staff to do everything from checking wristbands to stewarding crowds. In return, there’ll be access to a staff campsite and facilities, a place to charge phones and a chance to watch the action from backstage. It also claims that 90 per cent of its shifts don’t clash with headline acts, which is promising if you’re hoping to catch the big names.

Be warned, though: last year Festaff required volunteers to work at least one shift at a sister festival before qualifying to work Glastonbury.

Bin painting

What, you thought all the bins just came like that? A small team of dedicated volunteers head to Glasto every year before the festival to paint all the 17,000 (yes, seventeen thousand) bins before things kick off, spending three weeks on the farm in April and painting for eight hours a day. The result is a gorgeous rainbow of colours and designs, and you could be part of it too – there's even an annual competition called Binnies Got Talent

A small community affair, joining this mysterious and selective crew is trickier than hunting down the Rabbit Hole. From the West Country, or know somebody who is? Time to see if your childhood babysitter’s cousin's best mate has that all-important in; and who knows, you might discover another niche route into the festival in the process. Well, somebody needs to put up all the bougie celebrity tipis.

A woman dancing in the crowd of Glastonbury Festival.

Thousands of music lovers are set to make the annual pilgrimage to Worthy Farm this summer for Glastonbury Festival .

Dua Lipa ,  Coldplay , and  SZA are headlining , with  Shania Twain  taking the legends slot alongside hundreds of live music acts from June 26 to 30.

While many took aim at this year’s lineup , tickets have still been like gold dust with organisers revealing the first wave sold out in 25 minutes.

Prospective attendees have been eagerly awaiting this year’s resale for their second chance to attend the legendary music event – but when is it, and how can you purchase tickets in Glastonbury 2024 resale?

Here’s everything you need to know, including how to attend if you don’t manage to bag tickets.

When is the Glastonbury 2024 resale?

General admission tickets will go on resale at 9am on Sunday, April 21 .

Glastonbury Festival 2024 line-up

Any cancelled accommodation options (Worthy View, Sticklinch, Campervan/Caravan passes) will also be made available at 11am on Sunday.

You need to be registered for Glastonbury tickets to purchase anything in the resale, with registration closing on Wednesday, April 17 at 5pm and not reopening until after resale.

During the resale, you may purchase up to four tickets per transaction but you will need to have all of the registration numbers and registered postcodes of those you are buying tickets for as you can only book one ticket per registration.

According to the Glastonbury website, if you are booking a ticket and coach travel option, you will be asked to choose a departure town and time for towns with multiple departures.

Dua Lipa Brit Awards

It is only possible to book tickets from one departure town in a single transaction. Travel on the coach you have selected is mandatory to receive your festival ticket.

The deposit scheme for 2024 is now closed, and all tickets bought in the resale must be paid for in full at the time of booking.

All information about the Glastonbury 2024 ticket resale can be found on the festival’s website .

Will there be another chance to buy tickets?

Sunday’s resale is the last chance you will have to buy tickets for Glastonbury 2024.

Tickets were first snapped up in November just 25 minutes after they went on sale.

Those lucky enough to secure a spot paid a £75 deposit, with the full amount due in a week-long window which ended on April 7. Those who didn’t pay on time saw their tickets go into the resale pot.

Glastonbury Festival 2023 - Day 5

Festival organiser Emily Eavis previously announced that this year’s resale pot is smaller than ever , saying there was a ‘very limited’ number of tickets available.

Taking to Instagram with a picture of the iconic Pyramid Stage, Emily wrote: ‘Just heard that we had our highest percentage of ticket balances paid ever! Incredible. Thanks so much everyone.’

This comes after Glastonbury increased its ticket price by £75 in two years, with it costing a total of £360 per ticket for 2024.

However, all hope isn’t lost as there are still ways you can catch this year’s action at Worthy Farm.

Hopeful attendees can volunteer with Oxfam for a chance to work at the festival and catch some of the live acts, as well as companies such as Festsaff.

You can read our full list of how to attend Glastonbury if you didn’t bag yourself a ticket here .

Glastonbury Festival 2024 is kicking off on June 26.

Avoiding Altitude Sickness: How to Enjoy the Mountains Safely

An illustration of four people hiking on a trail in a rugged mountain range. The hikers at the lead of the pack are carrying backpacks and using poles. The hiker at the rear of the group is pulling up a pair of sunglasses and looking up at the sky with a sense of wonderment. There are several mountain goats standing alongside the path.

By Megan McCrea

At last, you’ve arrived in Cuzco, Peru — you’re ready for your dream trek to Machu Picchu. There’s just one problem: You can barely catch your breath, your stomach is churning and, in the morning, your head is throbbing.

The culprit? Altitude sickness, or in medical terms, acute mountain sickness — the various symptoms tied to your body’s response to the higher altitude. As elevation increases, air pressure drops, meaning you get less oxygen from each full breath. It is temporarily uncomfortable for most people, but in extreme cases, severe altitude sickness can even be fatal.

It sounds scary, but as Paul Nicolazzo, the president of Wilderness Medicine Training Center said, “There’s really no reason to be afraid of going to altitude, as long as you understand what you’re up against, and you obey some very, very basic rules.”

Know the symptoms

A.M.S. has four general symptoms: headache, gastrointestinal discomfort (nausea and lack of appetite), fatigue/weakness, and dizziness/lightheadedness.

Many people experience the morning altitude headache, in which “your skull feels too small for the pulse that’s coming,” said Steve House, the founder of Uphill Athlete , a company that offers high-altitude endurance coaching.

It is also common to struggle with sleep at high altitudes. This occurs partly because the part of your nervous system responsible for keeping you awake has kicked in to increase your respiratory rate, Mr. Nicolazzo said.

Pay attention to elevation

The two main drivers of A.M.S. are how high you’re going and how fast you’re getting there. People with a higher altitude sensitivity might start experiencing challenges not far above 5,000 feet, say in places like Denver and Johannesburg. Anyone traveling above 8,000 feet may be at risk for altitude sickness, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention .

Serious adventure travelers — say, those trekking in the Himalayas, or climbing Mount Kilimanjaro — usually know they’re headed for high altitudes. But the elevation of destinations like Mexico City (about 8,000 feet), the summit of Haleakala on Maui (10,023 feet), Cuzco (about 11,150 feet), or even Santa Fe, N.M. (6,996 feet), might come as a surprise. To set expectations, check your destination’s altitude in advance on Google Earth or the U.S. Geological Survey national map viewer .

Listen to your body

If you have a condition like heart disease, heart failure, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, atrial fibrillation, lung disease, C.O.P.D., asthma or sleep apnea, you’ll want to start paying close attention to how you’re feeling at around 5,000 feet.

If you have a pre-existing condition or have had trouble with high altitudes before — or if you’ll be going above 10,000 feet — consider visiting a specialist, who can help you prepare and may be able to advise you about the main drugs used to prevent and treat altitude sickness, Diamox (acetazolamide) and dexamethasone.

Sleep your way up

Traveling to high altitudes is a little like running a marathon: It will go better if you build up to it.

Say you’re headed to a high-altitude ski resort. Consider working your way up from a lower sleeping elevation to a higher one, since the critical factor — for altitude purposes — is where you spend the night.

If you’re traveling from sea level to Breckenridge, a Colorado ski town that sits at about 9,600 feet, first spend a night in Denver, at 5,280 feet, advised Dr. Peter Hackett, the founder of the Denali Medical Research Project and a high-altitude specialist. By doing so, he explained, “you drop the incidence of headache by almost half. So that little bit of extra time that you take to get to 9,000 feet to sleep can make a big difference.”

Skip that fatty steak

When Mr. Nicolazzo worked as a ski patroller, there was a behavior so common — and certain to exacerbate altitude illness — he remembers that local lodges posted warnings about it. People would fly in from sea level, he recalled, drive to the ski areas around Taos, N.M. (which is itself at 6,969 feet), “have a big steak, baked potato with sour cream and a lot of butter,” along with several cocktails. Then, they would feel terrible the next day, he said.

To avoid that feeling, trade the steak and extra butter for something with more carbohydrates, as fats and proteins take more oxygen for your body to metabolize.

And if you’re having a cocktail, keep it to one: Alcohol and other depressants can decrease your oxygen level, particularly while you’re sleeping, Dr. Hackett said.

Above all, drink plenty of water. Staying hydrated will help your kidneys work better, Mr. Nicolazzo explained, which can help you adjust to the altitude and, hopefully, avoid the headache.

Watch for red flags

A mild case of A.M.S. can become moderate or severe if someone ascends too high or too fast. Most — but not all — people progress through the mild symptoms before reaching this level, which includes symptoms like dizziness, disorientation, severe nausea and extreme shortness of breath.

To guard against severe A.M.S., monitor how you feel, and if you’re experiencing a persistent headache, trouble sleeping or other A.M.S. symptoms, tell your companions and don’t ascend any higher.

At the severe end of the continuum, if not treated, A.M.S. could progress into high altitude pulmonary edema , in which fluid builds up in the lungs, or more rarely, high altitude cerebral edema , where fluid builds up in the brain. Both conditions can be fatal.

“There are three cures for altitude illness,” Mr. House said, “descent, descent and descent.” Anyone who appears confused, is coughing up fluid or seems to have trouble breathing or walking — symptoms of severe conditions like HAPE or HACE — needs to be taken down immediately, Dr. Hackett said. “Just a thousand feet is all they have to go. And that could save their life.”

Connecticut news | ct officials: i-95 shut down for extended period following fiery crash; bridge has to ‘come down’, connecticut news.

In this image provided by the Connecticut Governor's Office, emergency personnel work at the scene of a fiery early morning crash that left both sides of Interstate 95, the East Coast’s main north-south highway, shut down in southwestern Connecticut., Thursday, May 2, 2024, in Norwalk, Conn. (Norwalk Fire Department/Connecticut Governor's Office via AP)

Gov. New Lamont said late Thursday that the “bridge is going to have to come down.”

He said the work to remove the bridge was expected to begin around 3 a.m. Friday and that if all goes well, two-way traffic could be back on the interstate sometime Monday. Lamont said he sought an “emergency declaration” as a result of the damage, which would provide assistance in paying for the repairs.

The governor noted that congestion is “still heavy” and he recommended that those who must travel in the next few days “take the train, stay away from the cars.”

State police warned commercial drivers to stay off the state’s parkways and said troopers would be out to prevent such traffic.

Norwalk Mayor Harry W. Rilling said, “We are very grateful that nobody was seriously injured,” and praised state and local workers for all they did and are doing to assist in the cleanup and work that needs to be done.

A state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection spokesperson said about 4,000 gallons of fuel spilled and burned, and the remainder was removed from the truck.

The crash was reported around 5:30 a.m. when state troopers learned of a collision involving two commercial vehicles and a passenger vehicle that led to a massive, three-alarm fire on I-95 South near Exit 15 at the Fairfield Avenue overpass, according to Connecticut State Police .

No serious injuries were reported.

Traffic was jammed Thursday morning as both sides of I-95 were shut down following a fiery crash. (Connecticut Department of Transportation)

Local fire crews responded to put out the vehicle fires, which included a tractor-trailer engulfed in flames. Crews from the state Department of Transportation, Department of Energy and Environmental Protection and Eversource also responded to the scene.

According to DEEP, the tanker truck had about 8,500 gallons of fuel in it.

Fire crews used foam that did not contain PFAS to get control of the blaze.

Authorities in the afternoon hours said crews could not move the tanker until the remaining fuel was removed from the vehicle.

According to DEEP, the fire consumed much of the fuel that leaked from the tanker, which limited the runoff, none of which made it to the Norwalk River. Crews were able to contain the limited amount of runoff into a retention pond.

The crash led to both sides of I-95 being shut down. Lamont said at an earlier press briefing Thursday that state officials notified surrounding states and truck companies of the closure and advised them to seek alternate routes using I-84 or I-87.

U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy spoke about the crash at a Senate appropriations subcommittee meeting Thursday, saying I-95 could be closed down “for days depending on how fast we’re able to make that bridge structurally sound and understand the extent of the fuel leakage.”

The governor had said crews in the morning hours were still assessing damages to utilities and the bridge that serves as an overpass and were working to get a better idea of when I-95 could reopen.

“I know what an incredible inconvenience this is for people,” Lamont said, adding that he spoke to U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg in the morning and briefed him on the situation. “And all I can ask you to do is stay away from that area the best you can. The traffic jams are horrendous.”

“Our highways team is working closely with Connecticut’s DOT on the tanker fire that has closed I-95 in Norwalk,” Buttigieg said via his X account. “Please heed local authorities on detours and avoid the area if possible. Thank you to the first responders who are dealing with the fire and keeping other drivers safe.”

Anyone who is able to stay home and avoid the area altogether has been advised to do so for the next few days, Lamont said.

“We are working with the city of Norwalk to reroute traffic around the city streets,” Paul Rizzo, bureau chief of highway operations for the DOT, said at a news briefing. “We have detours set up on I-95 to get the traffic around the incident.”

According to Scott Hill, bureau chief of Engineering and Construction at the DOT, the bridge in the area of the crash sustained damages, but “I just want to stress that the bridge is stable.

Hill said, “We need to finish the police investigation to look at the bridge.”

“There is damage to the bridge, so I want to make sure everybody knows that,” Hill added. “But it’s not a collapse issue and the area is safe.”

Hill said an engineer would assess the bridge, as the gasoline involved in the crash could have caused intense heat and possibly deformed the steel.

Massachusetts level 2 sex offender convicted of raping girls sentenced for child pornography, masataka yoshida won’t travel with red sox, surgery a possibility.

Before the designated hitter even finished getting an MRI on Wednesday, the Red Sox placed him on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to Apr. 29) with a left-thumb strain.

On Thursday morning, Alex Cora said the staff was still “gathering information” and he wasn’t sure when they’d have a clear picture of the road ahead.

“That’s where we’re at,” the manager said. “Don’t know what that means, if it’s tonight we’ll know more, or in the upcoming days.”

It’s been a tumultuous first month of the season for Yoshida, whom the Red Sox moved to the DH role during the offseason. Though he began the year with a four-game hitting streak and Opening Day double in Seattle, he’s done little in the way of hitting for power. He also spent several days on the bench over the last two weeks, as Rafael Devers (bone bruise) and Tyler O’Neill (concussion) both needed time in the DH spot before getting back on the field.

After a four-hit performance in the Sox’s 17-0 win over the Chicago Cubs on Saturday, Yoshida exited Sunday’s series finale after being jammed by a pitch.

“His hand is huge,” Cora said before Wednesday’s game. At the time, he was hopeful Yoshida would only need 10 days, which would allow him to return for the following homestand next Friday, May 10. The hitter, however, wouldn’t rule out surgery when speaking to reporters on Wednesday. Informed of this before Thursday afternoon’s game, Cora would only reiterate, “We’re gonna gather information and we’ll decide what’s next for him.”

The only concrete update he could provide was that Yoshida wouldn’t be traveling with the team for the weekend series in Minnesota.

More Red Sox injury updates

Brayan Bello (lat) is scheduled to make a rehab start with Double-A Portland on Tuesday.

Vaughn Grissom saw his season debut pushed back again this week due to the flu, but he’s traveling to Minnesota with the team and Cora said he “should be with us” for Friday night’s series opener against the Twins.

Romy Gonzalez (wrist) is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Worcester on Friday.
