Sometimes you just need to getaway. If your wanderlust gets the best of you and the traveler inside is itching to hit the road, there are plenty of websites and apps out there to help—fast. Whether you’re looking for a weekend getaway or a full-blown vacation, these sites can help you find great last minute travel deals.

Best Websites for Last Minute Flights

Finding flights can be a hassle, but it doesn’t have to be! There are loads of ways to find cheap flights from your favorite airline, even if you are going away in the near future.

1. Google Flights

Open laptop showing flight search homescreen for Google Flights

One fun way to find last minute flights is to plug your departure city and travel dates into Google Flights , leaving your destination blank. The resulting map shows you the lowest available prices to cities all over the world, letting you find deals in places you might not have ever thought to go.

Kayak’s Explore feature is a similar tool. You can enter exact travel dates or a certain month, then see which fares are available from your home gateway.

3. Secret Flying

An open laptop showing the homepage of Secret Flying, one of several listed flight booking websites

You can get alerts when fares go down when you sign up at Secret Flying , or, use their search tool to find great last minute deals on flights. Simply input your departure city, keep the arrival as “anywhere” and put the current month as the time you are looking to fly. Perfect for when you just want to get away, but you don’t care where to. Secret Flying also finds “mistake” fares, so be sure to sign up to get notifications so you can book them before they are gone!

Where to Find Last Minute Hotel Deals

You’d think that every hotel would have cheap rooms last minute, but that isn’t always the case. These sites will help you find a room that won’t break the bank with a spur of the moment trip!

1. Hotel Tonight

An open laptop showing the homepage of HotelTonight, a travel website where you can make last minute hotel reservations

A perennial favorite app among SmarterTravel editors, HotelTonight has been finding travelers’ deep hotel discounts since 2010. The app allows travelers to book same-day accommodations across the globe at discounts of up to 50 percent. If you don’t want to leave things until the literal last minute, though, the app also lets you book dates a little further out. The well-designed booking engine serves up clever recommendations and insider info—plus those remarkable markdowns. Keep an eye out for the Daily Drop, the biggest discount of the day (which you only have 15 minutes to book).

An open laptop showing the homepage of Groupon, a site where you can make last minute bookings

The site is known for discounted restaurant meals, fitness classes, and beauty services also has a last minute deals section that typically includes discounted hotel and resort stays. On the day I checked, options ranged from a $69 hotel near Niagara Falls to a four-star Times Square hotel for $77 a night.

3. Trip.com

Open laptop showing homepage of Trip.com, a place where you can book last minute travel

Trip.com is your basic hotel booking site, and is great for finding a last minute deal. While they feature hotels all around the world, it’s particularly great for deals on hotels in Asia, so when you grab an amazing last minute flight to somewhere in Asia, head to trip.com to book your hotel!

An open laptop showing the homepage of Last Minute Travel, a last minute travel booking site

As its name suggests, Last Minute Travel is dedicated solely to last minute travel deals. This wide-ranging site offers bargains on hotels, car rentals, cruises, transfers, and activities. The site has a Last Minute Travel Club for deeper discounts and rewards points to use toward free hotel stays. Membership is $50 per year.

CheapCaribbean.com has last minute deals , many of them short-lived flash sales. Though you can’t hem and haw about whether or not to go, you’ll often have plenty of time to plan. For example, a four-night air/hotel package to the Dominican Republic might start at $509 per person for travel four to six months from now—but it must be booked in the next four days.

3. FunJet Vacations

If you prefer having an itinerary made for you, and, let’s face it, if you are taking a last minute trip, it might be nice to not have to plan the entire trip, there are some great sites to book a last minute tour on.

1. TourRadar

An open laptop showing the homepage of TourRadar, a site with the option to book late travel

I found a four-day hiking tour of the Inca Trail in Peru for $881 departing within the week.

3. Contiki

An open laptop showing the last minute deals page of tour and travel booking site Contiki

Contiki has a wide variety of tours to choose from, and the site has a handy last minute trips option to find a tour when you need one. Popular Getaway Deal Destinations

You may think it is hard to find deals to some of the top destinations, but as we have been mentioning, there are several options out there, no matter where you are going. Here are some sites that will help you plan your next getaway to some of the top spots.

Europe Deals

Lastminute.com .

Open laptop showing homepage of LastMinute.com, a place where you can book last minute travel

This site also allows you to filter by hotels that offer free cancellation, a great perk if your travel plans change last minute. LastMinute.com also has “top-secret hotels” available for opaque booking, though in my Paris search they were actually a bit more expensive than the named hotels in my results.

Caribbean Vacations

While we love Sandals, we also love their sister company, Beaches . Beaches features two resorts in Jamaica and one in Turks and Caicos. Their last minute travel deals are similar to Sandals, where you can get one free night, and are able to book with just a couple of days in advance.

A man holding a phone showing the vacation rental bookingapp VRBO

These days, vacation rentals are all the rage, and finding a last minute travel deal for accommodations can be tricky if you don’t want to break the bank. That’s where apps like VRBO come in. You can search rooms, apartments and houses available to rent wherever you are going. Often, owners who have had a cancellation or just want the place booked will discount the price last minute as to not totally lose out on making any money. You might just find a unique stay, like a treehouse or secluded cabin.

Travelocity

Everything is better with time, and Travelocity is not excluded. Founded in 1996, they have adapted to the ever-changing tech world, and their app shows they are good at what they do. Search for hotels, vacation packages, flights—you name it—and all of your bookings will stay on the app for easy access. Looking for the perfect trip to Las Vegas last minute? This is Green Day's setlist from the Hella Mega Tour

It's been a long time coming, but last night in Texas, the Hella Mega Tour finally kicked off.

Following a warm-up show at Cain's Ballroom in Tulsa, Oklahoma – for vaccinated fans only – Green Day rolled into the Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, with an updated and frankly staggering setlist up their sleeves, packing in over 20 superhits that span the band's career (plus a couple of covers, natch).

SPOILER ALERT! This story contains details about the season 6 finale of The Conners on ABC .

There was a chance, albeit a small one, that the Roseanne sequel would have to say goodbye after 100-plus episodes. For the first time in its run,  The Conners  found itself on the bubble earlier this month even though the Werner Entertainment comedy remains a sturdy ratings performer.

‘The Conners’ Renewed By ABC For Abbreviated Seventh & Final Season – Watch First Promo

DEADLINE We reported in early May that a tag scene was shot to be added to the season 6 finale should it become a series finale. What did you shoot?

BRUCE HELFORD Obviously negotiations were going on and we really had one of those situations where if the negotiations didn’t work out, it would be our last show. So it was literally just goodbyes from the cast. That was really all that was shot. There were no scenes that tied anything up. We had an alternate script ready had we been told, but ABC was telling us no, this probably isn’t the end. We all wanted to do more episodes to really wrap it up properly. We all wanted the six-episode thing to happen for next season. But no, there was nothing. I wish there was something more exciting to report to you.

DAVE CAPLAN The actors, like the producers and everybody else associated, didn’t want to just leave the audience hanging. We didn’t know whether the show was going to get more episodes to wrap it up in the way that we all felt it deserved. They just made a very quick goodbye. But we were hopeful that we were going to get to tell the end of the Conners’ story in multiple episodes and that did become the case.

DEADLINE So that alternative script that you wrote. Is that going to be trashed now or can you still use it for next season?

CAPLAN So as opposed to having to kind of a rush one episode, we now can finish this up the way we wanted to — over six episodes with a bit more room to bring the giant Conners’ saga to the right conclusion.

mega tours last minute

DEADLINE I thought when Dan [John Goodman] paid off the house, you were going to set up a situation where he’s going to end up taking out a second so he could pay for Mark’s tuition at the University of Chicago. Was that a possibility?

HELFORD Well, that would be a very Conners’ thing, wouldn’t it be? We can’t tell you anything much about what’s going to happen. We’re talking a lot about it, but that would’ve been very Conners’ like, for sure.

CAPLAN I thought that now that he’s paid off the house, it was going to burn down. It’s like, there’s usually a light at the end of the tunnel, but very often it’s an oncoming train.

DEADLINE Why only six episodes? Did you want more?

HELFORD No, really it was a matter of what it would take to do it right. The reason we came back with the Roseanne reboot was to reclaim the legacy of the end of Roseanne. And then as you know, that went awry. So we had to do The Conners and we were going to do a season that was going to be to reclaim the legacy of Roseanne. And so after that, none of us ever expected that it would go 100 episodes. It was delightful and wonderful. It felt so good that people responded to it and we were really happy. But we always had requested they let us know that it’s going to be the end, so we can accommodate that.

This to everybody feels like the appropriate time. We’re going out on top. We’re the most watched comedy on ABC, we had a great season, and this just feels like the right time to do this. That said, 10 years from now there’ll be another group of people starting up the New Roseanne reboot, but right now we feel this is the right way to do it.

CAPLAN We didn’t want to try to squeeze blood from the stone until it was over. We just wanted to go out strong on top when we were on top of our game. And that’s how we feel like we’re doing it on our terms.

DEADLINE There was a moment in the final episode where Sara Gilbert is choking up because everyone’s moving out of her character’s home. I’m wondering in that moment if she thought the episode was her last?

HELFORD It’s interesting because we didn’t know for sure, even though ABC was giving us the signals that there would more. All of the actors are so invested in this. They’ve played these characters for so long, they’re definitely a family when they come to the stage. It’s the blessing to be able to get together after all these years. I do believe that was definitely an emotion coming up as a result of what was going on. I really do believe that.

DEADLINE Do you any desire to call back the end of Roseanne in those final six episodes?

HELFORD I don’t think we will. Those were the things we already excised, more or less.

DEADLINE Will you bring a lot of guest stars back in those final six episodes?

HELFORD I would expect some of that, yeah.

DEADLINE Why midseason? Why do fans have to wait so long?

DEADLINE When this is all over, will you stick with multi-camera comedies? You and Chuck Lorre are members of the old guard. Will you keep the genre alive?

HELFORD I always say this and no one seems to believe it until it happens. It is not about the format, it’s about the quality of the show. I think younger audiences have a little bit of an issue with the laugh track, but at the same time, when they go to a movie and everybody laughs, they all do it together. But I believe this will live as long as people are committing to doing quality. So I’m personally committing to it.

Taylor Swift is about to go back on tour: Here's what to expect on the Eras Tour in Paris

mega tours last minute

After a two-month break, Taylor Swift is revitalizing her titanic Eras Tour in Paris, and fans believe there are changes coming to the show.

If you are wondering where she's playing, if there will be changes and how to score tickets, here's everything we know.

And if you're new to the Eras Tour party, you can get caught up on the first 83 shows here .

When does the Eras Tour start again?

Swift kicks off the European leg of her tour on Thursday, May 9, in Paris. She will perform Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights, as well, in the City of Light.

Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle.

What are Taylor Swift's tour dates in Europe?

There are 69 shows left in the Eras Tour: 51 in Europe, nine in America and nine in Canada.

The European leg stretches from May all the way through a five-night stand at Wembley Stadium in London in mid-August.

See a complete list of international dates here .

After she wraps up in Europe, Swift will stop in Miami, New Orleans and Indianapolis before wrapping up in Canada.

See the remaining U.S. dates here .

What is the Eras Tour set list?

The Eras Tour has featured a massive 45-song set list you can check out here . But speculation is swirling it won't look the same when Swift takes the stage in Paris.

Will Taylor Swift add 'The Tortured Poets Department' to her set list?

The tortured poet has been on hiatus keeping her stamina up by releasing a double album of 31 tracks. The 2-hours-and-2-minutes project broke a number of Billboard records as the superstar did zero press to promote it. Fans flocked to stores and streaming services to listen to all the songs from "Fortnight" to "The Manuscript."

Although the singer has not confirmed whether her 11th era album will be added to her Eras Tour set list, she did post a YouTube shorts video with two scenes that sent Easter egg decoders into a frenzy. In one of the shots, the singer is next to a railing where a "TTPD" logo appears to be (at 0:11). In the succeeding shot, her back-up dancers perform holding canes and wearing top hats, something they have not worn previously.

Swift's dancers and bandmates posted to their Instagram stories as they left for France last week. The singer did not appear at two media events with her boyfriend Travis Kelce: the Kentucky Derby and a Formula 1 race in Miami , Florida. Patrick Mahomes, Kelce's friend and Kansas City's quarterback, attended the car racing spectacular with his wife, Brittany.

Can I still get Eras Tour tickets?

Swift's show is completely sold out in Europe and North America. There are resale sites with tickets, but be wary of scams. The best way to avoid getting swindled is continuously checking links on Swift's website . There are some for resale on the sites verified by her camp.

Singapore was a hotbed for fans who traveled thousands of miles only to get turned away at the venue. In Tokyo and Australia, last-minute ticket drops happened a few days — without announcement — ahead of the shows.

Miami, New Orleans and Indianapolis — the three U.S. cities Swift is visiting in the fall — have some of the heftiest price tags with Canada closely behind. In may be cheaper to travel to Warsaw, Poland, or Gelsenkirchen, Germany. Here's a list of cities with the cheapest resale tickets, according to travel website  Islands.com .

10. Vienna, Austria — total average cost: $1,089, safety score: 69.72

9. Cardiff, U.K. — total average cost: $1,061, safety score: 61.83

8. Lyon, France — total average cost: $1,047, safety score: 44.3

7. Lisbon, Portugal — total average cost: $1,028, safety score: 70.15

6. Munich, Germany — total average cost: $1,000, safety score: 78.88

5. Paris, France — total average cost: $971, safety score: 41.83

4. Stockholm, Sweden — total average cost: $935, safety score: 53.86

3. Hamburg, Germany — total average cost: $903, safety score: 57.51

2. Gelsenkirchen, Germany — total average cost: $749, safety score: 51.33

1. Warsaw, Poland — total average cost: $712, safety score: 72.98

Who are the opening acts?

Paramore launched the Eras Tour in Glendale, Arizona, in March 2023, so it's fitting the American rock band is opening the tour's second year. The act will open for Swift for 51 shows across Europe . The band was dubbed the 2024 Record Store Day global ambassador and surprised fans in Nashville the weekend following the release of "The Tortured Poets Department."

When the tour comes back to North America in October , Swift's opening act will be Gracie Abrams.

Where can I watch if I don't have tickets?

The Eras Tour is one of the first tours that has been followed, globally, by thousands of fans on digital platforms. Fans dedicate part of their concert experience to livestreaming as Swift performs. A few Swifties have learned how to host their own shows over social media including Tess Bohne , known as the livestream queen. Bohne goes live for (almost) every show pulling streams from Instagram and TikTok. When a livestream goes down, she fills the time with banter.

On YouTube, user @TaylorSwiftHockeyBro also livestreams the three-hour show, and on Twitch, @folkleric , is a host fans follow.

There is also an app, Swift Alert , that notifies fans who only want to watch certain eras like the acoustic, surprise set. The app sends out push alerts if there are any major announcements.

What secret songs are left?

For the past 83 shows, Swift has played an acoustic set she customizes at each stop with a guitar and piano performance. In 2024, the Eras Tour star added mashups of her songs for each stop. Here are the songs she has yet to perform:

  • "Taylor Swift" (debut album): "Mary's Song" and "A Perfectly Good Heart"
  • "Fearless": "The Way I Loved You," "Change," "Superstar," "We Were Happy," "That's When," "Don't You" and "Bye Bye Baby"
  • "Red": "Girl At Home," "Ronan," "Forever Winter" and "Run"
  • "1989": "Sweeter Than Fiction"
  • "Reputation": "I Did Something Bad"
  • "Lover": "London Boy," "Soon You'll Get Better" and "It's Nice to Have a Friend"
  • "Folklore": "Hoax"
  • "Evermore": "Happiness" and "Closure"
  • "Midnights": "Paris" and "Glitch"
  • "The Tortured Poets Department": all 31 tracks

Will Taylor Swift perform in 2025?

There have been many rumors that Swift will continue her show in 2025, but they are only rumors. Nothing has been announced for next year, and as of now, the tour will end in Vancouver, British Columbia, on Dec. 8.

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — Davis Riley had to wait out a 70-minute weather delay before his last shot in the second round at Colonial.

Riley made a 3-foot par putt right after play resumed Friday wrapping up a bogey-free 6-under 64 to get to 10 under at the Charles Schwab Challenge. He was two strokes ahead of Hayden Buckley and Pierceson Coody after they both shot 65s.

“I was starving, so I got some food, which was nice. Luckily, it was a 3-footer straight up the hill. So wasn’t too much to stress about,” Riley said. “I knocked in about five 3-footers before walking over there to cap off the round. Yeah, hit it center cut and made it.”

After a chip to 3 feet on the 408-yard ninth hole, Riley had to mark his ball and retreat to the nearby clubhouse when the horns went off because of storm cells with lightning that were in the surrounding areas. There were only some brief light raindrops during the delay, and after play resumed.

Buckley was on the green at No. 6, his 15th hole, when the weather delay began. He resumed play with a 6-foot birdie and then parred out to finish a round of 65 at the Colonial course that has been fully restored since last year’s event .

Richard Bland watches his tee shot on the first hole during the second round of the Senior PGA Championship golf tournament Friday, May 24, 2024, at Harbor Shores in Benton Harbor, Mich. (Don Campbell

Coody was in one of the final groups to finish after the delay. He birdied the last three holes, making a 30-footer at the par-3 16th before approach shots inside 3 1/2 feet at Nos. 17 and 18. Coody had an quite an up-and-down front nine, with an early at No. 2 before three bogeys and two birdies.

Sungjae Im (64) and Keegan Bradley (66) , who played morning rounds, were tied for fourth at 6 under with Sepp Straka (66).

Scottie Scheffler had four consecutive birdies midway through his round of 65 earlier Friday, a day after the world’s top-ranked player failed to break par in an opening round for the first time this season. At 3 under, he was tied for 15th and a stroke better than Jordan Spieth, another local favorite.

Scheffler’s first birdie Friday was a 15-foot putt at the par-3 13th hole, his fourth of the day after starting on the back side. That was where he had his first triple bogey of the year after a tee shot into the pond fronting that raised green in the opening round.

After driving into the fairway bunker at the 449-yard third hole, Scheffler hit from there to about 3 feet for his fourth consecutive birdie — none of the others were more than 8 feet. That was his last birdie of the day.

Scheffler didn’t speak to reporters at Colonial, a week after his arrest in the morning darkness before his second round of the PGA Championship, when police were investigating a pedestrian fatality and arrested — and briefly jailed — Scheffler for not following traffic directions. He was released and made it back to Valhalla for the second round.

On Thursday, before Scheffler began his first round at Colonial, police in Louisville, Kentucky, released what video they had of his arrest the previous week. He is scheduled to return to Louisville on June 3 to be arraigned on four charges, including second-degree felony assault of a police officer.

Spieth, the 2016 Colonial champion and a runner-up three times there, had a second-round 67 He started Friday with a 24-foot putt at the 403-yard 10th hole, the first of five birdies in his first six holes. He didn’t have any more birdies, but had two bogeys when finishing on the front side.

The 27-year-old Riley’s only PGA Tour win was the Zurich Classic team event with Nick Hardy last year in in New Orleans. Hardy was in his threesome Friday, and made a 14-foot par after the delay to finish a round of 70, keeping him at 2 over for the week to just make the cut.

“Honestly, when I was on the green ... I was more excited to watch Nick’s putt, and pulling for him,” Riley said. “It’s always nice to play with a good buddy, and made for a comfortable first two days.”

As a PGA Tour rookie two years ago, Riley was in contention on the final day at Colonial before finishing tied for fourth . Sam Burns had a seven-stroke comeback before winning that year in a playoff against Scheffler, one of his best friends.

Defending champion Emiliano Grillo also was just on the cut line at 2-over 142. He followed an opening 74 with a 68

Taylor Swift wearing a yellow dress

Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour touches down in Madrid next week, and in the words of Swift herself, “it’s best that [you] move fast” if you’re planning on snagging last-minute tickets.

Swift is playing two back-to-back nights at Madrid’s Estadio Santiago Bernabeu next Wednesday, May 29, and Thursday, May 30, and she’ll once again be joined by rock band Paramore as the opener.

Ahead of the two-night run, the tour stop made news as the Real Madrid football club filed a request to move up the final day of the La Liga season in order to give Swift’s team adequate time to construct the stage. It appears the match was moved, as Real Madrid will take on Real Betis tomorrow rather than the originally scheduled Sunday.

Enthusiasm is clearly at an all-time high, but prices on these shows are dropping to new lows. In fact, you can currently snag tickets for under $200; that was unheard of during last year’s United States leg of the Eras Tour, where tickets frequently went for over $1,000 last minute.

Sometimes it pays to procrastinate, and now is definitely one of those times.

Want to catch the show for yourself? Here’s everything you need to know about The Eras Tour in Madrid, Spain.

Taylor Swift Madrid tickets 2024

A complete calendar including all ‘Eras Tour’ Estadio Santiago Bernabeu concert dates and links to the cheapest tickets available can be found here:

(Note: The New York Post confirmed all above prices at the publication time. All prices are in US dollars, subject to fluctuation and include additional fees at checkout .)

Vivid Seats is a verified secondary market ticketing platform, and prices may be higher or lower than face value, depending on demand.

They offer a 100% buyer guarantee that states your transaction will be safe and secure and your tickets will be delivered prior to the event.

Taylor Swift ‘Eras Tour’ news

Our team has been following the ‘Eras Tour’ closely since it kicked off in March 2023.

Over the past few months, we spoke to a Swiftie who  shared some helpful tips  about seeing Taylor live, reported on  dropping ticket prices  and  came up with a list of all the most exciting fan trends .

Taylor Swift new music

As noted above, Swift’s  “The Tortured Poets Department”  was released at midnight (and subsequently at 2 a.m.) on Friday, April 19.

While every listener will likely come away with their own favorites, the ones we’re spinning on repeat include the piano-driven “Peter,” TTPD’s track 5 “So Long, London,” and the slow-building “The Black Dog.”

If you want to give it a listen — if you haven’t already, that is — you can find “The Tortured Poets Department”  here .

The Hayley Williams-fronted pop-punk rockers are opening for Swift in Europe from May through August this year after a short run on The Eras Tour in the United States last year.

This may come as a bit of a surprise to their fans considering that the group mounted a successful arena tour of their own in 2023, but Williams and Swift are longtime friends, and Williams even featured on a vault track on “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version).”

Paramore’s Eras Tour setlist also spans their eras as a band; it includes songs from their latest album , like “This is Why” and their recent cover of Talking Heads’ “Burning Down the House,” plus older hits like “Misery Business” and “The Only Exception.”

Huge stars on tour in 2024

Although it will cost an arm and a leg and maybe even some international travel to see Swift live this year, there are much more affordable concerts you can attend this year.

Here are just five of our favorite artists you won’t want to miss live, especially if you’re a Swiftie.

•  Olivia Rodrigo

•  Kacey Musgraves

•  Pink

•  Chappell Roan

•  Billie Eilish

20 Years Helping You Live Richer

Reviewed by Experts

Trusted by Millions of Readers

Summer is just around the corner, and that means now’s the time to start finalizing any travel plans — or making those last-minute changes.

But the cost of travel has gone up over the years. Thanks to inflation , roughly 25% of people who initially planned to take a trip this summer have decided not to go after all, according to a recent GOBankingRates survey. That still leaves 75% of people who are planning to travel, just with rising costs in mind.

Unless you’re someone who isn’t worried about money, you might want to save up more for any trips on the horizon. There are plenty of ways to go about this, but here are some of the big ones along with the pros and cons of each .

Book Your Trip Early

  • 25% of survey respondents said they plan to book their travel or accommodations early for cheaper prices

“We dream of visiting Europe or going on cruises, but with the cost of everything going up, how can we afford it? Planning is the key!” said Gary Knode, president at Safe Harbor Financial .

Planning your trip early, buying plane tickets, and making those reservations can help you spread out the cost of your trip. You might even score some better deals on things like accommodations, airfare, or even events by taking advantage of early-bird specials or other deals.

There are a few downsides to booking early, though. For one, it limits your flexibility. Say something comes up that makes it where you have to skip or cancel part of your trip. The money you’ve spent, unless covered by insurance or a cancelation policy, is gone.

Sometimes, you can also find better deals on airfare or discounts on a certain events before they happen. If that happens and you can’t make any changes to your current reservations, you’ll miss out on those last-minute deals.

Then again, if you’ve already paid for the key things in advance, you don’t have to worry about prices going up.

Create a Vacation Budget

  • 18% of respondents indicated they rely on a vacation or travel budget to ensure they’re on track with costs

Having a travel budget is another key way of making sure you don’t go overbudget for an upcoming trip. The sooner you create your budget, the sooner you can start setting aside money and planning out your actual trip.

But how much money should you have for your trip?

According to BudgetYourTrip.com , the average cost of a weeklong trip to the United States of America costs $1,991 per person or $3,982 per couple. This includes everything except airfare. Overseas trips can cost much more or less, depending on where and when you go, how long you plan to stay there, the activities you’ve got planned, and so forth.

Your budget will depend heavily on your financial situation, including your goals and needs. You might only be comfortable with spending $1,500 or $2,000, or you might have a bit more wiggle room in your budget. Whatever the case, it doesn’t hurt to have a travel budget.

“Make a budget and stick to it,” said Knode. “Take time to do some research and establish how much you’ll need each day for things such as meals, excursions, and gas, and don’t deviate from that.”

Once you know the approximate costs of everything, you can plan out your savings goals. Take the estimated cost of your trip and divide it by the number of months you have leading up to the trip. The result is how much you should ideally be saving up each month to reach your goal.

Keep in mind that you might still go over your travel budget — it’s not a foolproof system, after all. It’s also not easy to plan for every possible cost ahead of time, so you may need to have a little flexibility in your budget just in case.

Look for Travel-Related Deals

  • 21% of those surveyed said they plan to look for travel deals, coupons, and discounts

There are always travel deals, discounts, and the like — you just need to know where to look. One option is to book all-inclusive trips.

“If you know you want to focus on one thing and one main kind of experience, all-inclusive resorts can provide great value,” said Scott Lieberman, founder of Touchdown Money . “Your food and entertainment is already paid for, limiting the extra expenses. Cruises can work similarly if you plan properly.”

The main downside of all-inclusive trips is that you might not have as much flexibility in where or when you go. But if you don’t mind that, you could end up saving money while having a great experience.

If all-inclusive isn’t for you and you’d prefer to book everything separately, set up real-time price alerts to help you get the best deals possible on things like flights.

“Flight alert websites can notify you of price drops,” said Echo Wang, CEO and founder of Cool Travel Vibes . Consider installing an extension like Skyscanner or Google Flights into your browser so you’ll know whenever prices change and can book your trip then.

Another option is to travel off the beaten path. You could save money and potentially find better deals on airfare, accommodations, or events.

“Choice of destination can certainly impact the wallet,” said Knode. “National parks are wonderful and cost much less to visit than other touristy destinations. If you must go somewhere touristy, consider the less-traveled version. For example, instead of Las Vegas, perhaps you could visit Reno. You still get to visit casinos and see some shows, but it costs much less than Las Vegas and is less crowded too!”

Travel During an Off-Season

  • 22% of respondents said they’ll take a trip during an off-peak season to save money

You’d be surprised at how much of a difference timing makes in terms of the cost of your trip. If you’re trying to save for a trip, avoid ultra-popular times like holidays. Try for right when summer starts or ends instead.

“Be open with your travel dates and destinations,” said Wang. “Consider shoulder seasons (just before or after peak times) for better deals.”

The main advantage here is the savings, of course. However, if your schedule doesn’t allow for as much flexibility, you might have to look for other ways to save money — like using a low-cost or smaller airline, sticking with budget-friendly hotels with complimentary breakfasts, and eating in as much as possible.

Use Travel Rewards Cards

  • 14% of those surveyed indicated they’ll use credit cards with travel rewards for their summer trip

“Use credit cards with travel points or miles to offset flight costs or hotel stays,” said Wang. “Some cards even offer free airport lounge access for added comfort on long layovers.”

Check the terms of your credit cards to see if it comes with any travel rewards. If you do decide to go this route, just make sure you can reliably pay off your balance so that you don’t end up getting charged high interest fees or taking on unnecessary debt.

If you’re wary of the idea of charging your card, you can always look for other discounts.

“Another way to make travel more affordable would be to utilize discounts through your memberships with associations such as AAA, AARP, USAA, and even some credit unions,” said Knode. “[This] can help bring down the cost of your trip.”
