Enjoy Aialik Glacier Kayaking on this Alaskan Tour!

Enjoy Aialik Glacier Kayaking! Our focus with these tours and trips is to provide educational insight into this glacial area of the Kenai Fjords National Park – often seeing puffins, loons, whales, porpoises, otters, eagles, bears, and grand scenery in Seward, Alaska!

The Kenai Fjords National Park offers world class kayaking in one of the most scenic and rugged areas of Alaska. There is abundant wildlife and sealife viewing as you travel by water taxi and kayak through this wilderness.

This full day trip departs Seward Boat Harbor on Seward’s best water taxi! We are proud to partner with Weather Permitting and Alaska Wildland Adventures to make this trip possible.

We follow the cliff-riddled coastline from Seward to the Gulf of Alaska and into our destination, Aialik Bay. On board the water taxi we will provide hot drinks and morning snacks as you enjoy the timeless scenery and unprecedented wildlife.

Our journey includes whale watching and wildlife viewing opportunities such as Sea Lions, Porpoises and Sea Otters. Once we arrive in Aialik Bay, we are dropped off at shore to begin our kayaking portion of the trip. Minimum Age

Summer  5/15 to 9/15ish  , private group paddling in the rugged fjords.

This trip is great for beginner paddlers, but you do need to be comfortable moving around on the beach and sitting in a kayak for several hours. We do paddle in most weather, so please come prepared for rain!

Photography

We use sit-in kayaks for this trip. You can have your camera around your neck or in a dry bag — we do have water-tight compartments in all of our sit-in kayaks for you to store your gear, but it can be hard to access these compartments while on the water.

Due to Park regulations and consideration of other guests, we do not allow drones to be flown on this trip, unless a private tour is booked.

Other Details

It's important to bring waterproof and warm clothes to ensure that your experience is as pleasant as possible.

Be sure to ask us for recommendations on specific clothing and gear.  Good rain gear is a must.

The Journey to the Glacial Fjords

Cruise to the fjords on your private vessel, the gus marmot.

From our office, we'll take a 2 minute van ride to where the water taxi is moored.

After boarding, it's roughly a 2 hour ride to Holgate Arm. We take our time on the way out, looking constantly for marine life like whales, otters, puffins, porpoises, and much more. The journey out can usually be considered a wildlife tour in and of itself.

When we get to our destination, we unload the kayaks or SUPs and cast off from the vessel, which will hang out and meet us at the end of the day.

This is a private vessel used exclusively for our tours that is comfortable and fast, offering a very exclusive experience.

It's just your small group on this trip!

The ride in the water taxi is roughly 2-3 hours in each direction. The exact time is highly dependant on weather, and wildlife sightings. Usually, one direction takes longer than the other because we're searching for whales.

Terms & policies

Terms & payment policies:.

Trips run rain or shine! This is a coastal rainforest and thus there is a lot of rainy days. Weather cancellations are rare and made only when conditions are considered unsafe for paddling. Please remember that these are outdoor activities, and Mother Nature is always the one in charge.

Trips may be delayed or cancelled due to rough seas or strong winds. It is recommend that you leave extra days both before and after your scheduled trip in case the weather does not cooperate.

If your trip has a delayed start time or an early pick-up time due to weather, but the trip still runs on the dates planned, there will be no refund or pro-rated cost. Trips will not be cancelled solely on account of rain, so please be prepared for that.

For all tours without a water taxi (Resurrection Bay Half Day Tours and Caines Head Day Trips), guests will receive a full refund for cancellations made more than 1 week prior to your trip date. Within 1 week, your trip fees are nonrefundable.

If you decide to cancel your trip with us, please consider transferring your payment to a gift card. That way you can join us in the future, whether it’s this summer or a future season, providing an easy way to postpone your vacation plans while continuing to support our small, locally-owned business.

Travel insurance is strongly suggested for all guests, to ensure protection against cancellation penalties and many other unforeseeable circumstances, such as an emergency medical evacuation. The weather in Alaska can sometimes delay trips for a couple of days, and it’s worth being financially covered for any changes to your itinerary.

*Full refunds include: trip fees, add ons, and taxes & fees, minus $10 per person booking fees for all half & full day trips & $25 per person booking fees for multi-day trips*

Essential Details

Tips for a great trip.

Be sure to pack comfortable shoes that could get wet, and good layers. There is plenty of storage in the boats for spare layers, and other items if packed into small bags around 25 oz. Each guest also gets a dry bag to use during the trip if needed. Reach out if you have questions about gear.

Bringing a Camera? We use sit-in kayaks for this trip, you can have your camera around your neck or in a dry bag.

WHAT TO BRING

It best to dress warm and in layers so you can add or take away as needed. Be ready for different weather conditions and avoid cotton.  Below is a list of important items to bring on this tour.

  • A water bottle
  • Medical necessities
  • Warm synthetic/wool layers
  • Hiking boots
  • Rain boots or another type of water-resistant shoe.

WHAT WE PROVIDE

We provide breakfast, lunch and snacks throughout the day. All carefully prepared in our own cafe. If you have any dietary restrictions or allergies, let us know.

We have extra splash gear for those who do not have their own rain gear. As well as personal floatation devices, spray skirts that keep your legs nice and dry, light weight paddles, safety gear, stable tandem kayaks, shelters and other gear to keep you safe and comfortable.

THE WATER TAXI

We utilize our own private 36-foot landing craft that can carry up to 24 passengers. With a 5-star safety rating and music, a heated cabin, windows for viewing the landscape or wildlife, and comfortable seating.

The water taxi ride generally takes 1.5 to 2 hours depending on weather, tides, and if we see any wildlife. While the water is usually calm, it can sometimes get bumpy if weather comes in. We do our best to make the ride comfortable, but we can’t control the weather!

This trip is easy to moderate.

This kayak trip takes place on calm waters in a protected bay. Be ready to kayak anywhere from 8 to 15 miles a day, with breaks and a long lunch as well. During that time your guide may provide a shelter, hot beverages, and may lead the group on a beach walk. Be ready for various weather conditions as this trip is in the outdoors and all day.

Aialik or Northwestern

On this tour you will be dropped off in either Aialik or Northwestern Fjord. You will kayak by a tidewater glacier in either location and see sites like waterfalls, harbor seals, the Harding icefield and much more. This is a great trip for folks who can’t decide between the two different locations.

More Information

  • Chevron down The Full Itinerary

Your day begins with an early morning departure at 6 a.m. on our comfortable water taxi for a two to two-and-a-half-hour wildlife tour and transport to the Kenai Fjords National Park. The boat ride alone is an adventure as we traverse the vast beauty of the Gulf of Alaska. The day continues as we cross the submerged terminal moraine of Northwestern Glacier (a full 8.75 miles from the current face of the glacier!) and into Northwestern Lagoon, where the ocean depths shoot from over 400 feet on the outside to 24 feet at the crossing, and then down to 600 feet on the other side of the moraine! Enjoy opportunities to view black bears, coastal birds, and a host of marine mammals over the whole course of your trip — not just on the sea kayaking portion!

We land ~ 8 – 9:30 a.m. in the heart of the Kenai Fjords National Park on one of many beautiful pristine beaches. Your guide talks you through your kayak and gear on the way, providing paddling advice and raising situational awareness, which should allow for a quick start once unloaded.

Then it’s time to start paddling , where a rugged coastline folds into five sizeable glaciers for a full-day excursion. You and your group explore the park, moving from place to place from circumnavigating Striation Island to crossing in front of tidewater glaciers, this journey ranges from 8 to 15-miles, depending on the group’s speed and intentions. Trips travel at the pace of your group, so whether you’d like to cover as much ground as possible or rest on a beach with your journal or camera, we work to accommodate you!

The water taxi boat picks you up in the late afternoon, 4 – 6:30 p.m. , depending on the day, and the crew loads your kayaks and gear. The return trip explores the Kenai Fjords all the way back to Seward, keeping an eye out for the many whales migrating and feeding through our area. We aim to be at Miller’s Landing by 6 – 9 p.m., depending on how exciting our sightseeing options are on the way home.

We do reserve the right to be flexible — marine weather and logistics can delay things or require an earlier pick-up. Keep in mind they are boats, not trains, and we have to heed the demands of the ocean from time to time.

If you are booking a charter and lodging and your charter, water taxi, or kayaking is canceled due to weather, you are still responsible for the lodging or camping reservations and the normal cancellation policy applies. All of our activities are possible during rain, so rain does not constitute a cancellation.  Miller’s Landing is not responsible for vehicle break downs, personal emergencies, flight delays, health issues or other unforeseen hardships. We will try very hard to work with you, but the cancellation policy will need to be applied if we cannot issue a raincheck or find an alternative solution that appeals to both parties.

Please understand that Miller’s Landing also incurs a hefty financial merchant fee from our bank for the cost of charging your credit card and again for the cost of refunding it, and there is also a cost involved for the time involved in processing and refunding your reservation in employee costs. Our goal when taking your reservation is to have a solid, guaranteed prepaid reservation. We strongly discourage the practice of making reservations without having an airline ticket or making tentative reservations. Thank you for your understanding.

Kenai Fjords Boat Tour

Resurrection bay & kenai fjords tour, wildlife boat tours in seward, alaska.

One of the most popular things to do in Seward, Alaska, is a boat tour of Resurrection Bay & Kenai Fjords National Park. It’s a great way to get on the water, learn about the area, observe coastal Alaska’s wildlife, and visit a tidewater glacier.

If you’re thinking of pairing our Half Day Resurrection Bay Kayak Tour with a boat tour to see the park, we’d recommend instead considering our combo tour: the Aialik Glacier & Wildlife Day Trip . This tour combines an intimate wildlife boat tour out to Kenai Fjords National Park with an unforgettable glacier sea kayaking experience at Aialik Glacier, the largest tidewater glacier in the park.

The water taxi we use for our Aialik Glacier Day Trip has a 24-passenger capacity, and our captains are actively searching out wildlife viewing opportunities on our way to Aiaik Bay. You’ll have your knowledgable Kayak Adventures guide by your side the whole time, so rather than listening to an interpretive talk on a tour boat’s loud speaker, you’ll be having a face-to-face conversation about the glaciers, wildlife, and ecosystems around you. Our guide to guest ratio is 1:6, so you’ll have plenty of time and opportunity to learn from our professional, warm, and enthusiastic guides.

Rather than just spectating, we’ll disembark the water taxi when we reach the tidewater glaciers of Kenai Fjords National Park, where we’ll enjoy about 3 hours of kayaking. Listen to the ‘white thunder’ of Aialik Glacier calving, spot harbor seals resting on ice flows, and paddle along the enchanting coastline of the glacial fjord. Then return to Seward on the water taxi for another couple hours of spotting the wildlife who call this place home, arriving in town just in time for dinner.

Although we welcome children younger than any other kayaking operator in Seward, and our guides are wonderful with kids, all of our kayaking tours require a minimum age of 6 years. An excursion on a tour boat provides an alternate option for families traveling with younger children. Boat tours can also be a solution if some members in your party want to go kayaking with us, but others are unable. Sign them up for a boat tour and you can swap stories at the end of the day over a delicious meal in Seward.

Considering a boat tour for yourself or someone traveling with you? You can book any Kenai Fjords Tours through Kayak Adventures for a 10% discount .

If you’re unsure which adventure is best for you, give us a ring at 907.224.3960 or shoot us an email . Let us know who is coming and a little bit about your group’s adventure goals, and we’d be happy to help you choose the best fit!
