The Marybelle and Sebastian P. Musco Center for the Arts at Chapman University is proud to unveil its highly anticipated 2023-2024 Fall/Winter season with a line up that will leave audiences mesmerized. From August through February 2024, a fusion of extraordinary artistry and groups from the realms of jazz, contemporary dance, classical music, ballet folklórico, film, theatre, and multi-genre performances unite to transcend cultural boundaries.

The series kicks off with “Symphony in the Cities,” an outdoor symphony serenade beneath the stars with Maestro Carl St. Clair. “LatinXoxo , ” promises to weave a spellbinding tapestry of dynamic storytelling, while Disney’s beloved masterpiece, “ The Little Mermaid ,” takes on new life as a live orchestra accompanies this timeless tale. The breathtaking celebration of Día de Los Muertos with the soul-stirring fusion of Ballet Folklórico de Los Ángeles and the extraordinary Mariachi Garibaldi de Jaime Cuéllar are all special events included in this dynamic series.

Among the many highlights of this season, one stands out as a true beacon of innovation and artistry. The Marybelle Musco Contemporary Dance Series , an extraordinary creation conceived by the center’s co-founding benefactor, Marybelle Musco. This groundbreaking series will showcase three acclaimed professional dance companies: the awe-inspiring Mark Morris Dance Group , the incomparable Camille A. Brown & Dancers , and the visionary MOMIX . These companies will perform but also engage with students through the transformative Leap of Art Residencies. General ticket sales begin Monday, July 10 at 9 a.m. at muscocenter.org .

“Marybelle Musco has a lifetime interest in dance and is deeply knowledgeable about where dance is today,” said Richard T. Bryant, executive director of Musco Center. “We are thrilled to partner with her to bring this exciting new dance series to Chapman University. This collaboration will provide a powerful platform for creative expression and cultural exchange.”

Dr. Giulio M. Ongaro, Dean of Chapman University’s College of Performing Arts stated, “The Leap of Art residencies have been providing unparalleled access to outstanding artists who have challenged and inspired our students, not just in COPA but across the whole university. I am particularly grateful to Marybelle Musco for her vision in establishing the Marybelle Musco Contemporary Dance Series. I am really looking forward to those concerts and to seeing the fruits of the work these guest artists will do with the students of our nationally-ranked Department of Dance.”

Musco Center, Wilkinson College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences & Crean College of Health and Behavioral Sciences present

Australian Haydn Ensemble 7:30 p.m., Oct. 14 Known for its vibrant and accessible performances, The Australian Haydn Ensemble is one of Australia’s leading historically informed orchestras and chamber music groups. AHE brings together world-class musicians who excel in modern and period instrument performance and pay equal attention to performance and historical research. Its repertoire, focused on the music of the late Baroque and early classical era, stays true to the sounds that would have been familiar to Haydn and his contemporaries. AHE has performed all over Australia and the United States and received critical acclaim for the debut ABC Classics recording, “The Haydn Album,” which premiered at No. 1 on the Australian classical aria charts.

U.S. Army Field Band 3 p.m. Oct. 15, free  From Boston to Baghdad, Tampa to Toronto, The United States Army Field Band has spent six decades sharing their music throughout the nation and abroad, earning the title of “The Musical Ambassadors of the Army.” As the premier touring musical representative for the United States Army, this internationally acclaimed organization, composed of some of the finest musical talent, is considered by music critics to be one of the most versatile and inspiring musical organizations in the world.

LatinXoxo 7:30 p.m. Oct. 19 “An expertly crafted evening of cabaret that tells an impactful story” — Broadway World   LATINXoxo is Migguel Anggelo’s nonconforming and self-accepting rallying cry: A break from “Latin Lover” clichés and his Venezuelan father’s gendered expectations. This artistic and inspirational transdisciplinary work immerses the audience in a highly personal story told through an artful collage of theater, queer comedy, physical movement, and sumptuous song selections. The musical repertoire spans decades of pop hits, his own original compositions, and the Spanish boleros that defined his youth. With indelible precision, weaving in and out of the audience, Venezuelan-born, Miami and Brooklyn-based Anggelo connects past and present while unraveling the stereotypes that would otherwise constrain him.

Anoushka Shankar 7:30 p.m., Oct. 21 Virtuosic and emotional, classical and contemporary, Anoushka Shankar’s masterful sitar playing creates a world where ragas, bright analogue soundscapes, and contemplative electronics beautifully coexist. As a child, Shankar studied the sitar with her father, Pandit Ravi Shankar, one of the world’s best known North Indian classical musicians. Eventually, she would merge the meditative, introspective qualities of Indian classical music with a teenage love for electronic music and the Goan psychedelic trance scene, creating a sound “one foot in the past and one in the present.”

Ofrenda — Ballet Folklórico de Los Ángeles & Mariachi Garibaldi de Jaime Cuéllar 3 p.m., Oct. 22  Celebrate one of Mexico’s most beloved holidays, Día de Los Muertos, with the nation’s premier Mexican folk dance company, Ballet Folklórico de Los Ángeles, and the musicians of Mariachi Garibaldi de Jaime Cuéllar, led by three-time Grammy award-winner Jimmy Cuéllar. Ofrenda pays tribute to traditional music and dances from different regions, including “La Bruja” from Veracruz and “Retablo Purépecha” from the state of Michoacán, along with amazing music from the Disney movie “Coco,” plus an homage to Mexican artists Juan Gabriel, Selena, Pedro Infante, and José Alfredo Jiménez.

Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Jazz Band 7:30 p.m, Oct. 26 Combining the big-band swing of the 1930s and ‘40s with contemporary music such as funk and jazz fusion, the Big Phat Band, led by pianist/saxophonist/arranger Gordon Goodwin, is a national phenomenon, a “winning combination of impeccable musicianship and pop savvy” (JazzTimes). Having amassed 21 Grammy nominations, four Grammy wins, and three Emmy wins, Goodwin leads this 18-piece jazz orchestra that bubbles over with melodic ingenuity and infectious rhythms and makes for a vibrant and energetic live experience that appeals to both beboppers and headbangers.

Mark Morris Dance Group – “The Look of Love” 7:30 p.m., Nov. 4 “No choreographer alive has a higher reputation for musicality than Mark Morris; and that reputation…has been well earned over more than 30 years of marvelously eclectic creativity.” — The New York Times  In “The Look of Love,” Mark Morris and his dancers present a wistful and heartfelt homage to the chart-topping songs of the late Burt Bacharach and his longtime lyricist Hal David. This evening-length work features original choreography by Morris and new musical arrangements by Ethan Iverson, with Broadway star Marcy Harriell on lead vocals. Bacharach’s marvelous music “calls out for dancing,” says Morris. You’ll hear new arrangements of classic hits, performed live by the Mark Morris Dance Group’s Music Ensemble, from “I Say a Little Prayer” and “Walk On By” to “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head.” Morris, a hugely influential figure in the world of dance, founded his Mark Morris Dance Group in 1980 and remains its artistic director. His works are universally celebrated for their wit, creativity, musicality, and emotional depth.

Nochebuena Ballet Folklórico de Los Ángeles & Mariachi Garibaldi de Jaime Cu é llar 7:30 p.m., Dec. 20 – 21 “A lively holiday spectacular.” – Los Angeles Times   Artistic directors Kareli Montoya (Ballet Folklórico de Los Ángeles) and Jaime Cuéllar have created a vibrant holiday experience celebrating the traditions and customs of Christmas Eve in Mexico. Music and dance from across Mexico’s diverse regions blend the traditions of  Indigenous cultures, Spanish heritage, and diverse cultural influences in an exciting night of festive family fun. Make this holiday extravaganza part of your family’s annual tradition. But buy your tickets early — this event sells out every year.

Camille A. Brown & Dancers – “ink” 7:30 p.m., Jan. 26  “Every aspect of the dance-making here is thoroughly accomplished.”— The New York Times   “ink”, the final installment of Camille A. Brown’s trilogy on Black identity, features a series of duets and solos, weaving together elements of African-American social dance, African, tap, jazz, modern, and hip-hop movement, accompanied by percussion-driven original music performed live by a quartet. Through ancestral stories and pop culture references, “ink” examines self-empowerment, Black love, brotherhood, and resilience. Brown has choreographed major Broadway shows such as “Choir Boy,” “Once on This Island,” and the production of “Jesus Christ Superstar: Live in Concert” which aired on NBC. She started her career as a dancer in Ronald K. Brown’s Evidence, A Dance Company, and has been a guest artist with Rennie Harris’s Puremovement, and Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.

Herb Alpert & Lani Hall 7:30 p.m., Jan. 28 Husband-and-wife team Herb Alpert and Lani Hall are a musical power couple for the ages, with 11 Grammy Awards and countless chart-topping hits between them. Alpert is the legendary trumpeter of Tijuana Brass fame, who provided an upbeat soundtrack to the ‘60s with such hits as “The Lonely Bull,” “A Taste of Honey,” “Tijuana Taxi” and “This Guy’s In Love With You.” He’s taken his career in extraordinary new directions with his current agile, melodious jazz-pop trio. Hall, the unforgettable voice of the original Sergio Mendes and Brasil ’66, has recorded 22 albums in three different languages. Their musical offerings include tunes from the American songbook, jazzy sets sprinkled with Brazilian rhythms, a Tijuana Brass medley and much more.

Small Island Big Song 7:30 p.m., Feb. 3 “Indigenous instruments support modern sensibilities and vice versa … [It’s] one very big, very happy family doing what they do best while helping get the word out on a most serious issue.” — Tom Orr, Roots World, USA Small Island Big Song is a multi-platform project uniting the seafaring cultures of the Pacific and Indian Oceans through songs, sending a collaborative and urgent message from a region at the frontline of the climate crisis. With two award-winning albums, a feature film, educational programs, and a live touring concert, Taiwanese producer BaoBao Chen and Australian music producer/filmmaker Tim Cole make cultural connections across vast oceans, working with artists dedicating to preserving the cultural voice of their people by singing in their native tongues and using traditional instrumentation. These uniques sounds meet with contemporary styles — roots-reggae, beats, grunge, RnB, folk, and spoken-word – and establish musical dialogues between cultures such as Madagascar, Aotearoa, Taiwan, Mauritius, Marshall Islands, Papua New Guinea, Tahiti and Rapa Nui, creating “one coherent jaw dropping piece.” (Billboard)

Jazz at Lincoln Center – “Sing and Swing” — Our American Songbook Bria Skonberg and Benny Bencack III 3 p.m., Feb. 4  This new and highly anticipated project from Jazz at Lincoln Center celebrates the Great American Songbook in all of its playful and sophisticated glory, brought to life by two of this generation’s brightest stars. Each armed with prodigious trumpet talent and vocal charm, Bria Skonberg and Benny Benack III will relive and re-imagine some of the classic partners in jazz and popular song, including Ella Fitzgerald, Judy Garland and Bing Crosby, and Dean Martin and Peggy Lee. Featuring songs by Gershwin, Ellington, Cole Porter, Irving Berlin and many more, and joined by a who’s who of New York all-stars, this is an “unforgettable” evening of singin’ and swingin’ with Bria and Benny.

MOMIX – “Alice” 7:30 p.m., Feb. 23 “A magical mystery tour and a visual cornucopia”  — Critical Dance Travel down the rabbit hole MOMIX-style with Moses Pendleton’s newest creation, “Alice,” inspired by Lewis Carroll’s immortal fantasy “Alice in Wonderland.” As Alice’s body grows and shrinks and grows again, Pendleton’s dancers extend themselves using props, ropes, and other dancers. “Alice” is a natural fit for MOMIX and an opportunity to extend the company’s reach with a fusion of its signature dancing, lighting, music, costumes, and projected imagery. Pendleton founded MOMIX in 1980, and the company is now known worldwide for its visually stunning and innovative performances that blend dance, music, and multimedia elements.

Rock Doc 'Revival69: The Concert That Rocked the World' Full Trailer

by Alex Billington April 30, 2024 Source: YouTube

Revival69: The Concert That Rocked the World Trailer

"Combination of people on the stage is, without question, historic." Greenwich Entertainment has revealed the official US trailer for a music history documentary film titled Revival69: The Concert That Rocked the World , about the iconic 1969 Toronto Rock 'n Roll Revival music festival. Yet another music doc telling the story of "how it happened!" by looking back at how it almost didn't happen (just like The Greatest Night in Pop , etc). John Lennon, Yoko Ono, Little Richard, The Doors, Chuck Berry, Alice Cooper, and other legendary musicians performed at the 1969 Toronto Rock and Roll Revival music festival. This behind-the-scenes look at "the second most important event in rock and roll history" culminates in John Lennon's very first public performance with The Plastic Ono Band, integral in triggering his decision to leave the Beatles. Forged with rare, recently discovered behind-the-scenes Super 8 verité footage, and including never-before seen 16mm film of the concert shot by D.A. Pennebaker and his crew, Revival69 is an exhilarating VIP ride into a pivotal moment in music history, told through the eyes of those who were there: the musicians, the mavericks behind the scenes, and all who witnessed history in the making. What an epic concert! Have fun.

Official trailer for Ron Chapman's doc Revival69: The Concert That Rocked the World , on YouTube :

Revival69: The Concert That Rocked the World

REVIVAL69: The Concert That Rocked the World is a film telling the remarkable, behind-the-scenes story of how a little known, but life-altering music festival came together — against all odds. Young, scrappy concert promoter John Brower puts his life on the line (literally) to turn his failing Toronto Rock n Roll Revival into a one-day event, later coined in rock mythology as "the second most important event in rock & roll history." And it almost didn't happen. The festival united legends like Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis, Bo Diddley, and Gene Vincent, with The Doors, who were the biggest band in the world. But it was the 11th hour arrival of John Lennon and the Plastic Ono Band that ignited a truly seminal moment for the 20,000 fans at Toronto’s Varsity Stadium. Revival69: The Concert That Rocked the World is directed by Canadian filmmaker Ron Chapman , director of the doc films Who the F**K Is Arthur Fogel , The Poet of Havana , The Forbidden Shore , Carlos Varela: Live in Havana , Shelter , and From Earth to Sky previously. Produced by Sally Blake, Ron Chapman, and Trish Dolman. This initially premiered at the 2022 Calgary Film Festival in Canada a few years ago. Greenwich Ent. will debut Revival69 in select US theaters + on VOD starting June 28th, 2024 this summer. For more info, visit their official site . 🎸 Ready to rock?

How to Submit a Service Request to IS&T

May 1, 2024

The IS&T Service Desk team has observed a significant increase in the number of tickets being submitted through email. This method, while convenient for submitting requests, does not support efficient sorting of tickets. As a result, this can lead to prolonged resolution times as prioritizing and addressing issues effectively becomes more challenging.

To enhance the efficiency of our ticket processing and ensure faster resolution times, we request that you refrain from using email to create tickets whenever an alternative method is available. Using the designated ticket submission channels, we can streamline our handling processes and improve overall service delivery. We appreciate your cooperation in making these adjustments.

The service ticketing portal, powered by Jira, offers several efficiencies and advantages over traditional methods like email, particularly for managing support requests.

Here are the key reasons why:

  • Structured Data Collection: The ticketing portal prompts users to provide specific information that categorizes and details their issues. This structured input ensures all necessary details are included from the start, reducing the need for follow-up questions and enabling faster resolution.
  • Automated Routing and Prioritization: The system can automatically classify and route tickets to the appropriate department or support staff based on the information entered. It also prioritizes issues based on severity, ensuring that critical problems are addressed promptly.
  • Tracking and Status Updates: The portal allows users and support staff to track the progress of requests in real time. Users can check the status of their tickets at any time, and support teams can easily see queues and histories, improving transparency and accountability.
  • Improved Communication: Communication features like updates, comments, and alerts within the ticketing portal keep all stakeholders informed. This centralized communication eliminates the confusion and delays that can occur when using email threads.

Click on this button to access the Service Desk portal

Please note that you will need to sign in with your Chapman Credentials before submitting a ticket. Upon accessing the portal, you’ll find various ticket types available for creation. Kindly review the options to ensure your ticket is directed to the appropriate department within IS&T.

You may also access the Service Desk ticketing portal and contact us by visiting the Service Desk information page .

Go beneath the streets on this tour of the spectacular, mind-bending Moscow Metro! Be awed by architecture and spot the Propaganda , then hear soviet stories from a local in the know. Finish it all up above ground, looking up to Stalins skyscrapers, and get the inside scoop on whats gone on behind those walls.

Know More about this tour

We begin our Moscow tour beneath the city, exploring the underground palace of the Moscow Metro. From the Square of Revolution station, famous for its huge statues of soviet people (an armed soldier, a farmer with a rooster, a warrior, and more), we’ll move onto some of the most significant stations, where impressive mosaics, columns, and chandeliers will boggle your eyes! Moreover, these stations reveal a big part of soviet reality — the walls depict plenty of Propaganda , with party leaders looking down from images on the walls. Your local guide will share personal stories of his/her family from USSR times, giving you insight into Russia’s complicated past and present. Then we’re coming back up to street level, where we’ll take a break and refuel with some Russian fast food: traditional pancakes, called bliny. And then, stomachs satiated, we are ready to move forward! We’ll take the eco-friendly electric trolleybus, with a route along the Moscow Garden Ring. Used mainly by Russian babushkas(grannies) during the day, the trolleybus hits peak hours in the mornings and evenings, when many locals use it going to and from their days. Our first stop will be the Aviator’s House, one of Stalin’s Seven Sisters, followed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs — and you’ll hear the legends of what has gone on inside the walls. Throughout your Moscow tour, you’ll learn curious facts from soviet history while seeing how Russia exists now, 25 years after the USSR.

This tour exceeded our expectations. Nikolai (Nick), our tour guide, was very knowledgeable, thorough, and has a great personality. He didn't take shortcuts and really covered everything that was on the agenda in great detail. We saw beautiful metro stations and learned the history behind them, including many of the murals and designs.

We did the tour with Anna her knowledge and understanding of the History surrounding the metro brought the tour alive. Well done Anna!

Moscow metro tour: architectural styles of the subway.

chapman tour dates

Duration: 2 hours

Categories: Culture & History, Sightseeing

This metro tour of Russia’s capital and most populous city, Moscow, is your chance to get a unique insight into the beautiful and impressive architecture of the city's underground stations. Admire their marble walls and high ceilings representing Stalin's desire for glory after World War 2, and see first-hand how the interiors change with the rise of new political eras. Your guide will lead you through the complex network, which is one of the most heavily used rapid transit systems worldwide, with over two billion travelers in 2011.

Opened in 1935, Moscow’s underground system, now 190 miles (305 km) long with 185 stations, is today one the largest and most heavily used rapid transit systems in the world. On this Moscow metro tour, discover the impressive architecture of Moscow’s underground stations and learn how they reflect the Soviet era.

Getting around by metro, your local guide will take you through parts of Moscow’s infamous history. Stop at stations built during the time of the USSR (Soviet Union) that are praised as one of the most extravagant architectural projects from Stalin’s time. After World War 2, he was keen on establishing Stalinist architecture to represent his rising regime and a recognized empire. Learn how when his successor started the de-Stalinization of the former Soviet Union in 1953, the extravagancy of the architecture was toned down.

Discover how the unique character of each station reflected several different eras. While stations like Kievskaya and Slavyansky Bulvar have pompous halls and high stucco ceilings brimming with extravagant decorations, those built later, like Volzhskaya, are lightly adorned with sparse furnishings. Architect Alexey Dushkin and painter Alexander Deyneka were just two of the many artists who made these magnificent landmarks possible.

Revel in Moscow's glory days, as well as the years of scarcity, on this fascinating Moscow metro experience. Conclude your tour at one of the central stations in Moscow. If you're lucky, you may even find the secret entrance to the unconfirmed Metro-2, a parallel underground system used by the government -- a mystery which has neither been denied nor confirmed today.

Culture Shock Rating

We have a wide range of tours designed to give you an insight into the destination you're travelling in and there is something for everybody. The culture shock ratings considers the destination visited, transport used, activities undertaken and that "Wow, I'm really not at home now!" factor. While generalisations are always tricky, a summary of our gradings is as follows…

This is the least confronting of our tour range. Transport used on the trip is either private or a very comfortable public option, the activities included are usually iconic sites and locations that are not all too confronting.

The tour can include a mix of private and public transport providing a level of comfort that is slightly below what you would experience at home. Sites visited are usually iconic sites, tours can also include market visits, visits to communities etc that provide the traveller with a fantastic insight into destination.

Expect to rough it for parts of this tour, whether it's a packed public bus where you are forced to stand, a visit to a local market, a local community, you are sure to have an experience that is very different from what you're used to at home.

The comforts of your home town and the environment you are used to are more of a rarity. Expect some challenging transport options, visits to local sites and areas that don't resemble anything at home.

You're out there in the global community! You are likely to be exposed to the elements, travel in whatever means of transport is available and basically take it as it comes, whatever comes! It can be tough.

Physical Rating

Our physical rating gives you an idea of how much huffing and puffing you can expect on the tour. While generalisations are always tricky, a summary of our gradings is as follows…

These tours have very limited physical activity. Usually climbing in and out of the transport provided, walking through sites, markets etc included in the itinerary.

These tours have a bit of physical activity but nothing that should challenge you too much. This could be climbing on and off public transport through to a walk through the destination you're travelling in, they can include walking only tours or a combination of walking and transport.

These tours involve a bit of physical activity from walking up and down hills in the destination you're travelling in or the surrounding areas. Climbing on and off local transport or riding a bike up to 30 kms along predominantly flat terrain or jumping in a kayak for a gentle paddle on flat water.

These Tours will provide you with some solid physical activity. Whether its bike riding, walking, trekking, kayaking or riding on public transport you will need to have a good level of fitness to enjoy this tour.

Be prepared for some serious physical activity. These tours are our most challenging and involve some serious walking, hiking or bike riding. Can involve step climbs by foot or pedal and some challenging public transport options in the destination you are travelling.

Luxury Rating

Some trips are like a stroll on the beach, while others have you trekking alpine passes. Some of you thrive on camping out on the savannah, while others may prefer a hot shower and a comfortable bed in a lodge. Follow the grading systems below to find the right trip for you.

To help you choose the trip that's right for you, we've broken all of our trips down into four service levels. Measuring the comfort level of the accommodation and transport. So whether you're travelling on a budget and want to save money by using public transport, or prefer upgraded accommodation and are happy to pay a little more, then we have a level for you.

Does Harvey Weinstein’s Overturned Conviction Signal the End of Hollywood’s #MeToo Moment?

Popular on variety.

The public, too, may have turned its attention. Universal’s “She Said,” which was based on Times reporters Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey’s efforts to publish their story, was dead on arrival when it bowed in 2022, earning $14 million worldwide off a $32 million budget. And in recent weeks, as new details emerged about domestic violence allegations leveled by Angelina Jolie against ex-husband and “She Said” executive producer Brad Pitt, there has been barely a news ripple — a prospect that would have been unheard of six years ago.

All that has many wondering if Hollywood’s #MeToo moment over?

Nicole Page, who represented former Weinstein Co. whistleblower Lauren O’Connor, says her reaction to the ruling was “a mixture of shock and disgust.” She fears it will lay the groundwork for Weinstein’s efforts to overturn his rape conviction in California — and for others looking to challenge their sexual assault convictions.

“It’s probably going to be the new precedent for men like Weinstein and Cosby who have a large amount of money and a huge legal team,” Page says. “This just feels like another barrier. It’s like, ‘Oh, my God, how hard do we have to fight? How much do people have to give up?’”

Some Weinstein accusers lament that the #MeToo movement was hijacked by opportunists who showed little concern for their struggles. Louisette Geiss, who testified in the California case, asked TULDF to cover therapy sessions to emotionally prepare for the trial.

“They said, ‘Oh no, we don’t have anything for that. I’m like, ‘What the hell are you guys talking about? You have $26 million, and you guys can’t help me with $2,500?’” Geiss recalls. “Here I am out money because I’m trying to stop a guy who abused all of us. It just keeps going back to the constant abuse of the victims. And honestly, I’m just sick of it.”

Geiss’ frustration is echoed by Kaja Sokola, the only accuser to claim Weinstein sexually assaulted her when she was a minor. “As a survivor, it was disheartening to see that some leveraged the #MeToo movement for personal gain, rather than genuinely support it,” says the Polish model-turned-psychologist. “I’m angry and heartbroken that Weinstein continues to be protected by a broken justice system that retraumatizes victims and blames them for their abuse.”

Still, Early Sullivan’s Eric Anderson, who has worked both sides of the table as a former prosecutor on domestic violence cases and a current criminal defense attorney, believes that Weinstein’s overturned verdict may stand as a powerful symbol, but it doesn’t mean he will ultimately be absolved.

“Although a lot of people are panicking and saying that this proves that victims can’t be heard, that’s poppycock because the prosecution is still in a very strong position when it comes to a retrial of Harvey Weinstein. [Haley] is still as credible as ever.”

“There’s no Harvey Weinstein exception to the rule that he should be tried on the charges, and on the evidence of the charges, but not have a trial of his character,” Bonjean adds. “None of us could hold up to that. I hope these trial judges that are trying these #MeToo cases learn from these massive errors. It’s a huge expenditure of time and resources and they should be doing it right the first time.”

Geiss, for one, is irate that so-called bad-actor witnesses were introduced in the New York case in an effort to establish a pattern of behavior, leaving a conviction vulnerable to appeal. (New York typically does not allow such witnesses, but California, on the other hand, does.)

“As somebody who has really been a part of the judicial system through this process with Harvey, I find it egregious that the judge and the prosecutors and everyone involved in that case didn’t know ahead of time that they weren’t following their own systems and process and codes. I mean, how do you drag these women through this?” asks Geiss, who was the lead plaintiff in a Weinstein class action lawsuit. “I’ve listened to a lot of lawyers dissect what transpired. and they understand why it got appealed. And that alone should tell you something. How does this happen at this level with this high profile of a defendant?”

For his part, Weinstein was surprised but elated by the ruling, which his team wasn’t expecting until May 16. “We had kind of lost faith that there were judges out there who were willing to face public scrutiny for being the ones to let Harvey go,” Weinstein spokesperson Juda Engelmayer tells Variety . Weinstein is in regular contact with his two children from his marriage to Georgina Chapman. (His three children from his marriage to Eve Chilton do not speak to him.) Over a whirlwind six days, he has moved from his maximum security prison in Rome, N.Y., to Rikers Island to Bellevue Hospital, where he is being treated for multiple healthcare needs related to his heart stent, high blood pressure, diabetes and a spinal issue.
