Latin superstar Luis Miguel thrills El Paso, Juárez fans

latin 90s tour

Latin superstar Luis Miguel returned to the Don Haskins Center stage Wednesday night, thrilling thousands of loyal borderland fans.

It was the first of two nights of his Luis Miguel Tour 2024 concert in El Paso and part of the tour he extended from Luis Miguel Tour 2023.

He performs at 8 p.m. Thursday, May 2, at the Don Haskins Center. Tickets are still available and starting at $151, plus fees, available at Ticketmaster.com .

The crooner, now in his 50s, has had a massive following in El Paso and Juárez for many years.

Juárez native Alma Villanueva, who lives in El Paso, attended the concert with her daughter Daniela Perea.

"I have been a fan for a long time and then my daughter just followed suit," she said. "We have gone to see him in Las Vegas and we saw him the last time he came to El Paso (in 2018).

She added, "I love all of his songs from "Debajo de la Mesa," to all of the Romances songs. I think he is the best Latin artist."

Luis Miguel in El Paso: Concert highlights from Don Haskins

Luis Miguel, looking dapper as always in a black suit and tie, never said a word to the audience. But he didn't seem to need to. Fans gleefully held their hands high, waving their LED wristbands, which flashed colorful lights and filled the arena like dancing fireflies in the dark.

El Sol de Mexico started the night with "Sera Que No Me Amas" and continued to take fans through decades of his hits, slowing down the tempo with romantic ballads and bringing back up the beat with his pop hits.

Fans joined in at every opportunity, singing to classics such as "Culpable o No," "Amor, Amor, Amor," and "Entregate."

Luis Miguel has always been known for his signature dance moves, from picking up a leg while dancing to sashaying across the stage. He still has those moves that thrill ladies, reminiscent of an Elvis hip thrust, but he no longer pulls on his hair.

The last 20 minutes or so of the 1 1/2-hour concert kicked up a notch when he brought out his mariachi, a robust 14-member group, that backed him as he sang some favorite rancheras, "La Bikina" and "La Media Vuelta."

Fans sang along while giant inflatable balls bounced on fans in the floor seats.

He ended the night with a medley of his earliest hits, including "Cuando Caliente el Sol," and then soaked in the crowd's love as they hollered "otra." He returned the gesture with closed palms and then threw kisses.

He still knows how to leave them wanting more.

Ramón Ayala

Ramón Ayala is one of the most iconic figures of Norteño music. He rose to fame in the ’60s as part of the duo Los Relámpagos del Norte, alongside Cornelio Reyna, and for more than half a century he has maintained a successful career with his band Ramón Ayala y sus Bravos del Norte.

Trending on Billboard

“Of course not,” says the “King of the Accordion” to Billboard Español . “I am now in perfect condition. If I don’t play and tour, I don’t feel happy and fulfilled. I have been a musician all my life.”

Ramón Ayala Announces Retirement With Farewell Tour El Principio De Un Final

Ayala’s history with music began when he was just five years old and he accompanied his father playing the accordion to bring money home in his native Monterrey, Nuevo León, cradle of one of the three strands on which regional Mexican music is based: norteño, mariachi and banda sinaloense.

Throughout his long-lasting career, he has recorded over 100 albums, two of which reached No. 1 on the Billboard Regional Mexican Albums chart: Arriba El Norte (1991) and Antología De Un Rey (2004). He’s also placed 12 songs on Hot Latin Songs , including “Del Otro Lado del Portón”, at No. 12, and “Quémame los Ojos”, at No. 19. And he’s received two Grammy Awards and two Latin Grammys, among other accolades.

On March 9, he began his 50-concert tour in Los Angeles, which includes stops in Atlanta, El Paso, Chicago, Las Vegas, and other U.S. cities. He will soon announce dates in Mexico, in cities like Hermosillo, Tijuana, Ensenada, Culiacán, Mexico City and Monterrey, “where they will pay me a tribute in the Macroplaza,” he says of the latter.

Also in March, he released the corrido “El Retén,” the first single from an upcoming 15-track album.

In an interview with Billboard Español, Ayala answers 20 questions about his life and career, his last moments with Cornelio Reyna and how much he still has left to do.

Knowing that there’s a large audience that follows us both in Mexico and in the United States, that fills our concerts and is awaiting our new music, motivates me.

2. When you started in music, did you dream of getting to where you are now?

I have been a musician since I was five years old. At that age, I already played the accordion and worked with my dad in a band in Monterrey — I dreamed of continuing doing what I did and nothing else.

3. Do you remember the first professional recording you made?

Yes, it was in 1963, a song called “Ya No Llores,” and it was such a hit that it opened the doors to Ramón Ayala and Cornelio Reyna, my dear compadre . We were Los Relámpagos del Norte. That’s how we would be until 1971.

4. Los Relámpagos del Norte have remained an inspiration. What does it mean to you to have laid the groundwork for so many generations?

Cornelio and I met when we were 14, so we were like brothers. That made us bond and better transmit our music to the audience.

5. Do you have a special memory or anecdote with Cornelio Reyna?

When we started out, Cornelio was the one who made the contracts. Once, he promised [we would play] three events in one night. We arrived to the first, we did not make it to the second, and we arrived to the third one when people were already leaving. People recognized us and threw stones at our trucks. At that moment we decided that someone should represent us, and a friend offered to do it, Servando Cano.

6. Servando Cano, who would become one of the most important representatives of regional Mexican music…

7. With so many hits, is there a song that’s particularly meaningful to you?

There is one that I have a special affection for, “Mi Golondrina,” because it was one of the first that I recorded. But “Rinconcito en el Cielo” is very important in my career.

8. Why did Cornelio Reyna and Ramón Ayala separate? Was there any problem between you?

There was no problem, we always got along well. What happened is that he wanted to try his luck in Mexico singing mariachi and acting in movies.

9. Did you get a chance to reunite with Reyna before his passing in 1997?

In 1995, he returned to the U.S. and asked me to do a tour as Los Relámpagos del Norte. What I proposed was to go on stage first with Los Bravos del Norte, and halfway through the show, both of us [would come out] as Los Relámpagos. We were able to do two tours like that, but he was already very sick. He returned to Mexico and died there.

10. You went through some difficult moments in your career, didn’t you?

Yes, there have been some difficult moments, but fortunately there have been more good times and successes.

11. The name of the tour “El Principio De Un Final” caused a stir. Is this a farewell for Ramón Ayala?

We just named the 2024 tour that way; we don’t know when the end will be. I feel very good, so unless God has planned something else, we will continue.

12. Have you thought about retiring to be a full-time grandpa?

No, not at all. I do spend a lot of time with my children and grandchildren, though. For example, before starting this tour, I was teaching the kids how to bottle feed the newborn goats on my ranch. But being a grandpa is only for moments.

It was something very hard for me. It was the beginning of the pandemic, there were no vaccines and my little brother left. After that, I spoke with his son, José Luis Ayala Jr., who is a very good musician and is already very well integrated with us.

14. Do the other members of the band contribute ideas?

No, no. I tell them how I want things to be done and heard. We have worked very well this way; the proof is the response from the fans after so many years.

15. How is Ramón Ayala’s life in the U.S.?

I have been living in the Texas Valley for over 60 years. From Brownsville to Laredo, most of the population is Mexican, so we live and eat our carne asada as in our homeland, in addition to speaking a lot of Spanish.

16. How will you be celebrating Cinco de Mayo?

Working, fortunately. We will perform at the County Fair in Pomona, California. It is a very important event with more than 100 years of tradition.

17. Do you have any collaborative album planned?

Yes, we are going to record several of our hits with other artists. I already participated in an album celebrating Leo Dan’s career and I once did a duet with Lupillo Rivera accompanied by a sinaloense band. I also want to give you a heads up that another album is coming with Los Rieleros del Norte that is already recorded.

18. As an icon of Norteño music, what’s your opinion of the new generation of artists who are following this path?

I really like seeing how some of them have a lot of respect for Norteño music and the accordion — they play it excellently, like Edén Muñoz or Alfredo Olivas.

19. Any dream duet that didn’t get to happen?

20. Is there anything in your life and your career that you regret?

I regret nothing. Thanks to God I have reached the point where I am surrounded by fans, friends and family.

Anitta Reborn: The Brazilian Superstar on ‘Funk Generation,’ Her First U.S. Tour and the Mysterious Illness that Reset Her Career

Photographs by Victoria Stevens

For most of her life, Anitta didn’t think much about her death.

Despite growing up in the notorious favelas of Rio de Janeiro, the Brazilian multi-hyphenate just knew that her life would be as glamorous as she always imagined: she would sing, dance and act her way to global stardom. Gradually, that vision has been coming to life.

“I never thought that I wasn’t going to get what I wanted,” she says. “Everyone around me has been maybe more realistic, but I just have these visions for how my life will turn out. I don’t tell anyone, because I know how easily outside pressure can influence the results.”

Popular on Variety

Then, Anitta was hit with a mysterious illness that racked her with chronic, full-body pain and fevers that at times rendered her unable to walk. She was tested for cancer and autoimmune diseases but still doesn’t have a solid diagnosis for what she was experiencing. In her search for relief, Anitta took a month off and retreated into the Yoruba faith she’d learned as a child from her father, taking trips to several countries to connect with ancient healing traditions, from kundalini yoga to meditation. A few hours after this interview took place, she flew to Greenland to spend a week alone, visiting shamans and hiking through “spiritual portals” — parts of the earth that are said to be sensitive to energy.

To advance that new approach, Anitta felt she needed a new team. In the aftermath of the underwhelming response to “Versions of Me,” she cleaned house, parting ways with her longtime manager, Brandon Silverstein, and Warner Music, the label she’d been with for her entire professional career.

At the time, she didn’t tell the world that she was on the verge of dropping out of the music industry. But she’s brutally honest about it now, explaining that her efforts to be palatable internationally were neutering the boldfaced individuality that made her a star in the first place.

“I didn’t feel happy,” she says. “I didn’t have the energy anymore. I was looking at the sales numbers too much, reading what the internet and critics had to say. And after having thought so much about what life could look like if I quit, or if I died … my priorities shifted.”

However, she was contractually obligated to deliver at least two more albums to Warner. So Anitta effectively launched a social-media campaign against her label, claiming its executives never believed “Envolver” — a rare RIAA Latin Diamond-certified single — would be successful without the aid of a co-billed artist, and that her team at Warner’s Latina division wasn’t doing enough to promote her music. “If there was a fine to pay, I would have already auctioned off my organs, no matter how expensive it was to get out,” she wrote on X. “But unfortunately, there isn’t.”

Ultimately, there was, in the form of a reported multimillion-dollar settlement with Warner — $6 million, some sources say (representatives for Anitta and Warner declined to comment on the deal) — as well as a reasonably amicable separation from Silverstein, who, shortly after their parting, was seen speaking abusively to someone over speakerphone in a widely circulated video. Anitta and reps for Silverstein declined to comment on the video, but she says carefully, “[Brandon] did what he needed to do, and what I wanted to do at the time, but my focus changed. He was always very respectful and understanding with me.”

Then, just a month after leaving Warner, she announced a new deal — with Universal Music’s Republic label — and shortly after that, a new manager: Miami-born Rebeca León, who’d helped steer Rosalía, J Balvin and Juanes to superstardom.

From there, Anitta quickly released new music — a three-song bundle titled “ Funk Generation : a Favela Love Story,” which was expanded into a full album under the same title that dropped on April 26. But instead of leaning uncomfortably into popular Western styles, she went back to the youthful baile funk sound of the favelas — a vibrantly danceable combination of samba, Miami bass, hip-hop and syncopated African beats.

Experiment, Anitta does: “Funk Generation” has lyrics in Spanish, English and Portuguese over sweltering rhythms of favela funk. She’s the first to acknowledge that it will be a challenge for some of her more pop-leaning fans, not to mention new ones.

“For a long time, the numbers have decided whether I won or failed, and that will push you to do something unoriginal,” she says. “I want to be very clear: That doesn’t mean I don’t love my old songs. With ‘Versions of Me,’ I was trying a little bit of everything to try to solidify myself in the mainstream, but I don’t care what the fuck is gonna happen with this next album. I love the adrenaline of not knowing whether people are going to like it.”

“That is the true definition of fearlessness,” León says, “when you only want to do what you do because you fucking love it.”

When Anitta first reached out, León had recently transitioned out of managing Rosalía to focus on growing her production company, Lionfish Studios. After working as a co-producer on a 2022 remake of “Father of the Bride,” León and Lionfish Studios are developing several female-driven projects said to have heavy music components that showcase the nuances and intricacies of Latin culture.

“I was on my pseudo break, and [Anitta] asked me to essentially assess her career with her,” León recalls. From that meeting, she found the singer’s resilience inspiring and the opportunities for her career virtually limitless. But she, too, found that in the process of chasing that crossover dream, Anitta had not been making the music she wanted to make.

“She’s gotten here. Now she’s fighting to do what she’s always wanted to do: bring [baile] funk, a marginalized genre, to the big stage,” León says.

And although the genre is lyrically hyper-sexualized, Anitta says her take on it is “all about the sound.” “Brazilian funk is very, very sexual and very explicit, but those lyrics don’t reflect what I’m living personally now,” she says.

“It’s more an exploration of my love for the beats, the parties, and how it all makes me feel,” says Anitta. “A lot of the producers on this album are people who came from the ghetto, the slums, the favelas. They live and breathe Brazilian funk — the kind of funk that has crazy lyrics, that nasty shit.”

Where 2022’s “Versions of Me” leaned into American pop production, “Funk Generation” was a crate-digging process for Brazilian producers like Gabriel do Borel and the duo Tropkillaz, who reference contemporary sub-genres of funk, altering its brass sections with sped-up tempos and repetitive electronic patterns.

Despite her distancing comments, “Funk Generation” is seriously X-rated, both lyrically and musically. On the song “Savage Funk,” Anitta repeats the word “fuck” 58 times, phrasing her vocals so that they sound like a bassline.

Not that any of this is out of character: Anitta’s sexuality has always been a focal point of her public image. She’s often described herself as two people: Larissa de Macedo Machado, the person she grew up as, and Anitta. All superstars struggle with where the self ends and the star begins, but for her, it seems to be about self-preservation. “I can see myself leaving the name ‘Anitta’ behind,” she muses about the persona that embraces her “most animalistic desires,” “but I’ll never just be Larissa. I am very protective of her. It helps people to understand that there is the artist, and then there is the human who just wants to go home and hide.

“I use my sexuality as a freedom message,” Anitta concludes. “It’s not like I’m telling everyone to flash their pussies. But we have a right to express ourselves without feeling ashamed.”

Despite all of the self-empowering words, on May 18, Anitta will embark on a project that, in the past, she didn’t really want to do: her first global tour, a 20-plus-date trek in intimate venues dubbed the “Baile Funk Experience” in North America, South America and Europe.

“Touring is tiring,” she says, “and I don’t like going for extended periods without seeing my family. But I’m so engaged with this project that I want to do it. And I want to still keep it small; I want to be able to look people in the eyes. It’s not going to be enough for you to just stand there and watch. The person who goes to this concert will feel an urgency to be a part of it.”

As for what comes next, Anitta is pursuing acting gigs following her role in the Netflix drama series “Elite.” She plans to work her way up, as she always has. Of course, the future holds little mystery for her. “I know what’s going to happen next,” she says, cracking a mischievous smile. “I’m going to keep making very surprising turns — you’ll be left like, ‘Who is this person?’”

Inside Bad Bunny’s Houses: Tour Where the Latin Superstar Lives

By Joyce Chen

Image may contain Bad Bunny Blazer Clothing Coat Jacket Head Person Face Happy Smile Formal Wear Suit and Adult

Now that Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, better known as Bad Bunny, is a global superstar, it makes sense that he’s been shopping around for trophy properties. Bad Bunny’s houses on both coasts are the epitome of luxury, and he’s come a long way from where he grew up in Almirante Sur, a rural area in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico. Still, he enjoys frequent visits home: In Puerto Rico, he feels comforted by the relative calm and privacy that he experiences with loved ones.

“Outside of that house, perhaps the world is listening and talking about me. But in that house, everything is the same,” he told Time magazine in a cover story last March about visiting with family at his home in Puerto Rico. “It’s beautiful for me to go there and [my parents] still look at me with the eyes of, ‘Come here, Benito Antonio. The Baby. The son.’” It’s a stark contrast from his bustling professional life: The rapper will cohost the Met Gala with Jennifer Lopez , Zendaya , and Chris Hemsworth on May 6; he has three consecutive Grammy wins in the best latin pop or urban album category; and he’s in the midst of his Most Wanted Tour, making headlines for his fashion choices as well as his collaborations with everyone from Travis Scott to Drake to SZA. Below, we’ve rounded up what we know about Bad Bunny’s extravagant dwellings.

Puerto Rico mansion

During the pandemic, Bad Bunny hunkered down at a million-dollar rental mansion in San Juan (a property that he’s kept largely private save for a few Instagram Live videos he posted during lockdown). Just prior to the start of the pandemic, the musician shared some insight into his favorite spots on his home island—“through Vega Alta, Dorado, [my hometown] Vega Baja, Manatí, Barceloneta, Arecibo—all the way to the west side of the island.” His first meal whenever he’s back in town, he told Condé Nast Traveler , is typically “a beer and some fish—usually mofongo or octopus ceviche. I love the coastal restaurants.”

Big rig Airbnb

In 2022, Bad Bunny partnered with Airbnb to offer fans a once-in-a-lifetime experience : a chance to spend one night on the 53-foot matte black semitruck which appeared on the cover of his 2021 album El Último Tour Del Mundo. The truck, which was designed by West Coast Customs, featured chrome flames, a customized grill, and all-leather interiors. A stay on the Miami-based big rig cost $91 a night—a nod to his record-breaking 9.1 billion streams on Spotify in 2021. “Being on tour has reconnected me with my fans and the energy they give me during each show in every city we visit is incredible,” he said at the time . “This truck has played such a big role in the concept of my tour and my last album that I want to share this unique experience with them.” Fans can unfortunately no longer book a stay on the big rig.

Hollywood Hills contemporary

The following year, Bad Bunny dropped $8.8 million for a contemporary Hollywood Hills estate set on a little over half an acre. The property comprises an angular five-bedroom main house and a separate two-bedroom guesthouse with its own kitchen, measuring a combined 7,316 square feet. The dwelling was originally built in 2005 but has been recently renovated. Images of the interiors reveal pristine white walls and ample floor-to-ceiling windows that flood the home with natural light. There is a sunken living room and chef’s kitchen, as well as a wet bar just off the living room. The primary bedroom boasts a cavernous walk-in closet with its own lounge area. The grounds are dotted with palm trees and an inviting BBQ kitchen area, and the centerpiece of the backyard is the infinity pool with an inset spa, which features panoramic city views.

West Chelsea luxury rental

Also in 2023, Bad Bunny broke records in real estate after renting out a four-bedroom, four-and-a-half bathroom penthouse duplex in the West Chelsea neighborhood of New York for $150,000 a month —reportedly the most expensive apartment in the city. The stylish pad, which was on the market for $18.5 million, checks off all of the Bullet Train star’s aesthetic preferences: It is airy and high-ceilinged, with spectacular city views and a private 32-foot lap pool. There is a total of 4,552 square feet of living space, with an additional 4,593 square feet of outdoor space, including an outdoor kitchen and a landscaped rooftop with a view of the Hudson River. Of note indoors: an eat-in kitchen with terrazzo floors and wood paneling, as well as a library with a spiral staircase leading up onto the aforementioned roof and a terrace. It appears that the musician still maintains this home.

Bird Streets residence

Bad Bunny’s next purchase came with some musical lineage—he paid Ariana Grande $8.3 million for her Bird Streets hideaway in early 2024. The reggaeton star’s latest residence reportedly comprises a single-story structure measuring less than 1,600 square feet, a two-car garage, and an angular swimming pool situated on three hillside parcels. Originally built in 1946, the three-bedroom, two-bathroom house is decidedly smaller than Bad Bunny’s other properties. Grande bought the rustic contemporary home for $8.9 million in an off-market deal in 2021, reportedly with plans of building a dream home there with her then fiancé, real estate agent Dalton Gomez.

Theatres in Moscow

Cultural life of Moscow city is various and rich! Operas, ballets, symphonic concerts... Russian composers have created some of the most beautiful classical music. Russian classical music is very popular in Moscow. It is performed in many beautiful historical venues. Do not forget to include a visit to a concert hall in your itinerary when you are planning your stay in Moscow! And do it in advance.

There are almost no restrictions on dress code in Russian theatres. Visitors may wear jeans and sports shoes, they may have a backpack with them. Only shorts are not allowed.

A typical feature of Russian theatre – visitors are bringing a lot of flowers which they present to their favorite performers after the show.

Here are some practical advices where to go and how to buy tickets.

The Bolshoi Theatre

The Bolshoi Theatre is the oldest, the most famous and popular opera and ballet theatre in Russia. The word “Bolshoi” means “big” in Russian. You can buy a ticket online in advance, 2-3 months before the date of performance on the official website . Prices for famous ballets are high: 6-8 thousand rubles for a seat in stalls. Tickets to operas are cheaper: you can get a good seat for 4-5 thousand rubles. Tickets are cheaper for daytime performances and performances on the New Stage. The New Stage is situated in the light-green building to the left of the Bolshoi's main building. The quality of operas and ballets shown on the New Stage is excellent too. However, you should pay attention that many seats of the Bolshoi’s Old and New Stages have limited visibility . If you want to see the Bolshoi’s Old Stage but all tickets are sold out, you can order a tour of the theatre. You can book such a tour on the official website.

If you want, following Russian tradition, to give flowers to the performers at the end of the show, in the Bolshoi flowers should be presented via special staff who collects these flowers in advance.

In August the Bolshoi is closed.

The Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Music Theatre

This theatre is noteworthy. On one hand, it offers brilliant classical opera and ballet performances. On the other hand, it is an experimental venue for modern artists. You can check the program and buy tickets online here http://stanmus.com/ . If you are opera lover, get a ticket to see superstar Hibla Gerzmava . The theatre has a very beautiful historic building and a stage with a good view from every seat. Tickets are twice cheaper than in the Bolshoi.

The Novaya Opera

“Novaya” means “New” in Russian. This opera house was founded in 1991 by a famous conductor Eugene Kolobov. Its repertoire has several directions: Russian and Western classics, original shows and divertissements, and operas of the 20th and 21st centuries. It is very popular with Muscovites for excellent quality of performances, a comfortable hall, a beautiful Art Nouveau building and a historic park Hermitage, which is situated right next to it. You can buy tickets online here http://www.novayaopera.ru/en .

Galina Vishnevskaya Opera Center

The Opera Center has become one of the best theatrical venues in Moscow. It was founded in 2002 by great diva Galina Vishnevskaya. Nowadays its artistic director is Olga Rostropovich, daughter of Galina Vishnevskaya and her husband Mstislav Rostropovich, great cellist and conductor. Not only best young opera singers perform here, but also world music stars do; chamber and symphonic concerts, theatrical productions and musical festivals take place here. You can see what is on the program here http://opera-centre.ru/theatre . Unfortunately “booking tickets online” is available in Russian only. If you need help, you can contact us at and we can book a ticket for you.

Tchaikovsky Concert Hall and The Great Hall of Moscow Conservatory

These are two major concert halls for symphonic music in Moscow. Both feature excellent acoustics, impressive interior, various repertoire and best performers. You can check the program here http://meloman.ru/calendar/ . You need just to switch to English. Booking tickets online is available only for owners of Russian, Ukrainian and Belorussian phone numbers. If you need help, you can contact us and we can book a ticket for you.

Moscow International Performing Arts Center (MIPAC)

This modern and elegant concert hall houses performances of national and foreign symphony orchestras, chamber ensembles, solo instrumentalists, opera singers, ballet dancers, theatre companies, jazz bands, variety and traditional ensembles. Actually, it has three concert halls placed on three different levels and having separate entrances. The President of MIPAC is People’s Artist of the USSR Vladimir Spivakov, conductor of “Virtuosy Moskvy” orchestra. You can see pictures of the concert halls here http://www.mmdm.ru/en/content/halls . The program is impressive in its variety but is not translated into English. You can contact us at and we can find a performance for you.

'New York Undercover' cast to reunite on national tour, stars talk trailblazing '90s cop drama

latin 90s tour

The cast of the classic 1990s procedural "New York Undercover" is hitting the road for the show's 30th anniversary.

The national tour will feature a reunited cast that includes Malik Yoba , Luna Lauren Velez and Michael DeLorenzo. The trio revealed the news on Monday's episode of The Tamron Hall Show .

"Audiences (have) never had a chance to have this experience with us so we intend to go on the road as (a) cast," Yoba, 56, told host Tamron Hall . "We're going to hit markets across America. We're working with artists that have performed on the show."

"New York Undercover" aired on Fox from 1994 to 1999 and followed detectives J.C. Williams (Yoba), Eddie Torres (DeLorenzo) and Nina Moreno (Velez) in one of the first police dramas to cast actors of color in leading roles.

"We understood the assignment," Yoba said. "The assignment was to push the culture forward in the most authentic way possible."

The group noted that Tamron Hall was their first time doing a daytime interview as a cast, highlighting the lack of promotion the show received. "Despite the fact we were No. 1 in Black and Latino households, at the time, it wasn't regarded as mainstream fare," Yoba continued.

'Pulp Fiction' 30th anniversary reunion: John Travolta, Samuel L. Jackson, Uma Thurman, more

"One of the best things we accomplished was the relationships," added DeLorenzo, 64. "We weren't a typical cop show."

The trio noted the iconic music and guest stars on the series, including Stevie Wonder, B.B. King, Celia Cruz, The Notorious B.I.G., Al Green, Aaliyah, D'Angelo, SWV, Ziggy and Damian Marley, and more.

'Scrubs' stars gather for a mini reunion: 'Getting the band back together!'

Created by Kevin Arkadie and Dick Wolf — the latter of " Law & Order " fame — the series also starred Patti D'Arbanville, George Gore II, Fatima Faloye and Lee Wong. The series was nominated for several NAACP Image Awards, including two wins for Yoba in his role.

Velez, 59, and Yoba previously reunited for a "New York Undercover" TV film in 2019, produced by Wolf and Ben Watkins.

In 2018, The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline reported that ABC had ordered a pilot for a "New York Undercover" reboot, written and produced by Watkins and Wolf. Deadline later reported that the pilot was still being shopped in 2020, with Peacock said to be in negotiations to pick up the series and "The Chi" showrunner Ayanna Floyd Davis attached.
