Clarence Heyward – Engineer II

Clarence Heyward – Engineer IIClarence Heyward’s role at Marriott’s Grande Ocean in Hilton Head, SC, may be Engineer II, but he’s also the proud leader of Grilling With the Guys. The event has been a weekly tradition at the property for more than 13 years, and brings Owners, guests, and associates together over their love of grilled food. Every Tuesday, Clarence and the rest of “the Guys” fire up the grills to provide Owners and guests with a complimentary cookout. Clarence has led the event for 10 of the years it has been around – and he’s not planning to stop anytime soon. “I’ve had a guest who’s been coming here since she was a little girl,” he said. “Now, she’s in college and still tells me that she doesn’t eat anybody else’s ribs but mine, so that’s a big honor.” Clarence said his favorite part about Grilling With the Guys is how it helps create lifelong relationships. He hopes to continue leading the event until it’s his turn to pass the role on – only to someone who loves grilling just as much as he does!

Rosa Delgado – Guest Services Associate Lead

Guest Services Associate Lead Rosa Delgado has worked at Marriott’s SurfWatch in Hilton Head, SC, for almost 16 years. She has also been recognized by a customer or manager for an outstanding performance more than 1,800 times through MVW’s Way to Go Program. That’s not hard to believe because Rosa is known by those around her for her smile and welcoming nature. “I love people and I think, when you give good service, everybody wants to come here. And I don’t want them to come here and say ‘Oh, I’m bored.’ What? No, you cannot be bored with me. We’ll find something you can do, and believe me, they leave happy,” she said. Rosa loves her resort family so much that she even had her wedding at Marriott’s SurfWatch. She plans to stay with the property for as long as she can. “Well, to tell you the truth, I know that I have to retire someday, but right now I’m not thinking about retiring because I really enjoy what I do,” she said. “I feel like I could still give to Marriott like they have given back to me.”

Wilma Clark – Guest Services Associate Lead

Guest Services Associate Lead Wilma Clark is honored to have been recognized by a customer or manager for an outstanding performance more than 2,000 times throughout her 33-year career with MVW. She has spent most of that time as Front Office Supervisor at Marriott’s Heritage Club in Hilton Head, SC, where she always meets the needs of Owners and guests with enthusiasm. “I love asking them what they need or just, when they have a request, making them feel like they’re home away from home,” Wilma said. “They’re always looking for me to give them a hug and when I’m off work, they’re concerned. They want to know if everything is alright.” When a challenge comes her way, she keeps a smile on her face and a positive attitude. “I always follow up with a guest to make sure that they are okay, and their problem has been resolved,” Wilma explained. What’s next for Wilma? “Retirement!” She answered, laughingly. “I don’t want to look at other places. After Marriott, that’s it.”

Celebrating sustainability with clean the world .

In 2012, Marriott Vacations Worldwide became the first timeshare company to participate with Clean the World on their mission to help people in need by providing them with the critical hygiene tools they need to survive, while simultaneously diverting waste in our communities. Approximately 50 of our U.S.-based managed properties (and counting) participate in Clean the World’s soap recycling program. To date, MVW has collected more than 128,000 pounds of used soap, helping to divert 122,000 pounds of plastic from landfills and distribute 638,000 new bars of soap through Clean the World’s recycling process. Thanks to our volunteers, who have donated hundreds of hours of their time, more than 13,000 hygiene kits have been assembled and donated to community nonprofits around the world! As we enter a new year, we look forward to expanding our participation with Clean the World for more of our resorts and celebrating every pound of soap and plastic recycled!

ALFRESCO DINING AT ORLANDO’S BEST PLACES TO EAT OUTSIDE

From patio seating to waterfront dining, Orlando boasts a wide range of outdoor restaurants with varied ambiance and cuisine. Here are some great options to whet your outdoor dining appetite:

877 Tavistock Lakes Boulevard

Tucked into Orlando's Lake Nona neighborhood, this sprawling outdoor venue dishes up food, drinks, and entertainment all in one fun space. Made from repurposed shipping containers, the family-friendly Boxi Park boasts walk-up window service for multiple food options (think tacos, seafood sandwiches, and fried chicken), drinks (a cocktail bar), and entertainment (sand volleyball and a stage with live performances on weekends).

A variety of seating options are sprinkled throughout Boxi Park, ranging from barstools and just-for-two tables to picnic tables and umbrella-shaded tables and chairs. Kids will enjoy the playground, and pups can run free in the adjacent Barxi Park — a fenced-in area for dogs of all sizes.

CANVAS RESTAURANT & MARKET

13615 Sachs Avenue

If you crave local, seasonal produce and fresh seafood in a striking setting, head to Canvas, which offers both a marketplace and a restaurant. This popular Lake Nona eatery boasts a colorful dining backdrop called The Glass House — a sustainably made public art installation by Tom Fruin. A nearby eating area with picnic tables, flowering plants, and overhead string lights makes for a picturesque meal. A terrace with tables and chairs overlooking the water provides another atmospheric dining option.

For breakfast, you can grab a cappuccino, fresh pastry, or breakfast burrito in the market, or settle in for weekend brunch. Savor lunch and dinner options ranging from skirt steak salad and a tuna poke bowl to crispy red snapper and rigatoni Bolognese.

EL PATRON RESTAURANTE MEXICANO

12167 South Apopka Vineland Road

Rich in culture and buzzing with energy, this family-owned eatery serves arguably some of the best Mexican food in the area. Since 2007, El Patron has been serving traditional favorites (like enchiladas with mole sauce and sizzling fajitas) and house specialties (such as carnitas Michoacanas and pork chop al pastor). Make sure you save room for the flan with a touch of hazelnut liqueur.

While the colorful interior provides a cool respite during those hot summer months, head outside for a more intimate experience. The outdoor space feels like a cozy oasis, with plants strategically placed around the patio to shield the umbrella-topped tables.

THE GRILL AT GRANDE VISTA

Marriott's Grande Vista, 5925 Avenida Vista

Located at Marriott's Grande Vista golf clubhouse, The Grill at Grande Vista makes a convenient spot for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, with scenic terrace views overlooking the practice greens. In this hidden gem, you'll find American cuisine (think beef stroganoff and Nashville hot chicken) in a casual, pub-like space. It's the perfect spot to grab a meal after a round of golf or a full day at the theme parks, or to start your evening with a thirst-quenching craft beer or freshly muddled mojito.

PAL CAMPO RESTAURANT

13605 South Apopka Vineland Road

For authentic Puerto Rican cuisine, head to Pal Campo, voted Best Puerto Rican Restaurant in Central Florida several years running in the Orlando Sentinel Foodie Awards. Serving traditional Puerto Rican cuisine with a modern twist, this eatery features dishes like pollo empanadillas (chicken turnovers), alcapurria de carne (beef fritters), and vegetarian items like tostones rellenos de vegetales (plantains stuffed with vegetables).

While the interior decor gives off its own San Juan plaza vibes, outside dining provides casual picnic table seating and string lights — perfect for families. For a fun Instagram moment, you can pose outdoors by the oversized Adirondack chair painted to resemble the Puerto Rican flag.

8323 Sand Lake Road

Courtesy of SLATE Restaurant

As one of the anchors of Orlando's Restaurant Row, SLATE delivers an upscale dining experience for a festive brunch or a special night out. With Chef Kevan Ho at the helm, SLATE spotlights seasonal ingredients and fresh seafood with menu items like crispy Brussels sprouts, blue house-seared salmon, and pistachio dessert pizza. SLATE provides an indoor/outdoor dining experience by opening the windows to let fresh breezes drift in.

WHISPER CREEK FARM: THE KITCHEN

JW Marriott Orlando, Grande Lakes, 4040 Central Florida Parkway

Nestled in JW Marriott Orlando, Grande Lakes, Whisper Creek Farm: The Kitchen aims to provide an authentic farm-to-fork dinner experience by growing fruits and vegetables, raising chickens, and tending apiaries whose yield is used seasonally on the menu. Serving comfort food, craft beer, and house cocktails, the restaurant spotlights dishes like short rib lettuce wraps and shrimp with sofrito rice and low-country gravy.

The patio space provides a casual dining spot just outside the main restaurant, with a fire pit for cooler nights. There's also a rustic dining setting with picnic tables near the farm — typically reserved for special events like Fall on the Farm, a family-friendly, seasonal event held on weekends through October.

Where to Stay:

When it comes to Orlando, Florida, there’s fun around every corner. And with so many options for places to stay, you’ll always be close to the adventure.

Add a little magic to your vacation when you stay at  Marriott’s Cypress Harbour ,  Marriott’s Royal Palms ,  Marriott’s Grande Vista , and  Marriott’s Sabal Palms , just a short drive from the gates of Walt Disney World ®  Resort.

If you’re looking for a bit more thrill to your trip, you can stay at  Marriott’s Lakeshore Reserve ,  Marriott’s Harbour Lake , or  Marriott’s Imperial Palms , and visit the epic coasters of Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure.

There’s more to Orlando than just theme parks. Vistana Signature Network ®  members and Marriott Vacation Club ®  Owners with Club Points *  can visit the city’s championship golf courses, museums, and natural waterways with a stay at  Sheraton Vistana Resort  or  Sheraton Vistana Villages .

SURF LIKE A LOCAL IN WAIKĪKĪ

For centuries, Native Hawaiians have been surfing in Hawai‘i — a sport they call he‘e nalu, or wave sliding. But modern surfing was birthed more recently at the beginning of the 20th century at Waikīkī Beach. Today, you can easily experience Waikīkī surf culture by taking a lesson and catching some waves — or just soaking it in at a local watering hole. Here’s a few tips to fit in with the locals. *

SURFING’S MODERN ROOTS

To understand surf culture, you must dip into the early 1900s. That’s when Waikīkī was transforming from a rural wetland into a glittery playground of hotels, restaurants, and shopping.

Waikīkī’s first hotel to beckon world travelers was the Moana Surfrider, A Westin Resort & Spa, Waikiki Beach, which opened in 1901. And young Hawaiian men gathered on Waikīkī Beach to offer surfing, swimming, and canoe lessons to visitors. These were the first of the now-famous Beach Boys of Waikīkī.

By 1911, two surfing clubs had formed and a dazzling young athlete, Duke Kahanamoku, started charming the world. Kahanamoku grew up in the Waikīkī surf, became an Olympic swimmer, and introduced surfing to California and Australia. Waikīkī has a bronze statue of a larger-than-life Kahanamoku on Kūhiō Beach, depicted against his favorite wooden longboard.

Courtesy Hawaii Tourism Authority, HTA/Ben Ono

WHERE TO SURF IN WAIKĪKĪ

Waikīkī has some of the best surf breaks on the South Shore of O‘ahu, with plenty of options for beginning, intermediate, and advanced surfers — as well as good surf conditions nearly year-round. In fact, that’s Waikīkī's rolling wave action in the iconic opener of TV’s Hawaii Five-O. You’ll find these same kinds of waves are at famous Waikīkī surf breaks — Canoes, Tongg’s, Populars (aka Pops), Old Man’s, and Castles.*

If you are ever going to try surfing, this is the place. The best bet for novice surfers is to take a lesson, either with a small group or a one-on-one private lesson. The instructors in Waikīkī carry on the gracious beach boy tradition, and they can get all types and ages of people up and riding the Waikīkī surf.

Many companies offer surf lessons. Check out Waikīkī Beach Services, which has been teaching surfing lessons since 1955. Or Big Wave Dave, a one-stop shop with lessons, rentals, and local coffee founded by pro surfer Dave Carvalho. If you’re a confident surfer already, just rent a board. Good options include Koa Board Sports, near the Duke Kahanamoku statue, or Moku, about a block off the beach.

To see surfboards that have transcended into art, stop by Inter-Island Surf Shop, on Kapahulu Avenue. It’s been in business since 1959 and offers collectible boards by legendary board shapers — and if you’re lucky, some good surfing tales.

SURF CULTURE: PAU HANA TIME

Once you’ve spent the day immersed in the Waikīkī Beach surfing vibes, it’s pau hana time. That means happy hour.*

Beer aficionados have several good options, including Waikīkī Brewing Company, which makes its own craft beers with names like Ala Moana Amber and Aloha Spirit Blonde Ale. Another local beer company, Maui Brewing Co., has an outpost in Waikīkī with surfing-inspired beers like Big Swell IPA and Bikini Blonde Lager (don’t miss the unusual and delicious Coconut Hiwa Porter, either). Both breweries also offer food.

If it’s a mai tai and a view you’re seeking, try The Beach Bar at the Moana Surfrider, A Westin Resort & Spa, Waikiki Beach, which has live entertainment. The 1944 Mai Tai boasts the original Trader Vic’s recipe, or go for something a little different with a “torch lighter,” which is a mai tai made with locally crafted rum.

Scanning the horizon and watching the idyllic waves, you can conjure the early days of Waikīkī Beach surfing as you toast this timeless sport.

CHOOSE YOUR OWN ECO ADVENTURE ON MARCO ISLAND

In Florida's southwestern reaches lies Marco Island. From this area, you're within easy reach of some of Florida's most beautiful and utterly wild beach and mangrove landscapes — notably the Ten Thousand Islands National Wildlife Refuge, a vast area of wilderness that continues south into Everglades National Park.

Exploring these nature areas through eco tours is an ideal way to soak up the incredible views, see unique wildlife living, and better understand why this fragile environment is vital to such a remarkable range of life.

Here are some top eco-minded experiences to seek out during your next vacation on Marco Island.

Courtesy Paradise Advertising/© Naples Marco Island Everglades CVB

TRAVEL BY BOAT INTO THE EVERGLADES' INNER REACHES

There's so much happening beneath the surface in the Everglades that the park is best discovered during boat tours with a naturalist guide. Most tours leave from Everglades City — a remote fishing village east of Marco Island that's the closest launching point within Everglades National Park from Florida's Gulf Coast.

You're very likely to see dolphins, manatees, all manner of wading birds and raptors, and many other animals endemic to these waters. You'll also learn about some of the lesser-known inhabitants and invasive species living within this part of wild Florida, too. Cruising aboard a pontoon boat provides some good cover from the sun — especially important on a hot Florida day.

EXPLORE BIG CYPRESS NATIONAL PRESERVE ON FOOT

Located just over 25 miles east of Marco Island, Big Cypress National Preserve is a surprisingly accessible wilderness area adjacent to the Everglades. During a walking tour, you might get to see Florida's rare ghost orchid, found high up in trees. These amazing flowers are as delicate a jewel and as translucent as a cloud. You’ll also spot other plants, trees, and animals that only exist in this North American "Amazon."

PADDLE A KAYAK THROUGH A MANGROVE MAZE

In the brackish waters where mangroves thrive, lush tunnels often form from their twisting branches. It makes for a wondrous, watery pathway that's best explored during kayak tours timed perfectly with the tides. Along the way, guides will point out night herons and great blue herons, as well as other wading birds that stalk the shallows. It's fascinating to see juvenile fish hiding in the mangrove roots and, if you're lucky, even baby bull sharks that call these protected waters home.

Courtesy Dolphin Explorer

GO SHELLING, BIRDING, AND DOLPHIN-SPOTTING ALL AT ONCE

Communing with nature comes easy on combined dolphin and shelling trips that depart Marco Island. The tours are bound for the pristine barrier island beaches that lie within the Ten Thousand Islands National Wildlife Refuge.

As you cruise along, your captain will scout the water for dolphins, which often like to play in the boat's wake. Keep an eye out for their fins slicing the water around you — they'll sometimes even leap entirely out of the water, putting on quite the show.

Serious shell-collectors love the chance to stroll on totally undeveloped islands to look for nature's treasures. They’ll collect lace murex shells, lightning whelks, and many other varieties. The water is shallow and warm for dipping, too, should you fancy cooling off with a swim.

Take a family-friendly vacation to Marco Island and experience everything Florida has to offer.  Marriott’s Crystal Shores  is a beachside resort that puts you right on the sand for a relaxing ocean getaway. Or visit Florida’s natural side with a day-trip to the Florida Everglades. This natural waterway is home to unique species of birds, reptiles, snakes, and more.

There's a Four Seasons Resort at Disney World — and It Has a Free Kids Club, Michelin-starred Dining, and an Adults-only Pool

Four Seasons Resort Orlando at Walt Disney World Resort is celebrating its 10-year anniversary. Here’s what it’s like to stay.

How to Get the Most Value Out of Your Stay

Don Riddle/Courtesy of Four Seasons

When the Four Seasons Resort Orlando at Walt Disney World Resort opened 10 years ago, it redefined what a theme park vacation could be. Tucked away in the exclusive Golden Oaks neighborhood within Disney World, the resort feels worlds away from the buzzy theme park just a 10-minute drive away. Combining the luxe standards of the Four Seasons brand with a touch of Disney magic, the Four Seasons Resort Orlando proves you can have the best of both worlds.

I’ve stayed at the Four Seasons Orlando Resort twice now — once in 2021 when it was ranked our readers’ third-favorite resort in Florida and again this month for a dual birthday celebration — and both times, I was reminded that this resort combines many of my favorite things and still keeps me coming back for more.

On this trip, I celebrated my birthday alongside my mom during a girls' weekend that balanced theme park fun with spa treatments and fine dining while the resort kicked off its 10th-anniversary celebration. In honor of the occasion, the resort will unveil Epilogue, a new adults-only, Florida-inspired speakeasy next month, along with a Disney-themed artist spotlight featuring Dom Corona — and there's more to come throughout the year.

As a Travel + Leisure editor who covers theme parks and luxury hotels, I've yet to visit anywhere else where you say hi to Goofy and friends at a character breakfast, take a dip in an adults-only pool, treat the whole family to complimentary activities (including a free kids camp), splash around a five-acre water park, dine at a rooftop Michelin-starred restaurant, and watch Disney World fireworks — all just a short car ride from the theme parks, no less.

Here, our review of the Four Seasons Resort Orlando at Walt Disney World Resort.

Four Seasons Resort Orlando

  • The Four Seasons Resort Orlando offers Disney perks and proximity to the theme parks in a luxury setting.
  • It's home to the sole adults-only pool on Disney World property and an expansive spa.
  • A complimentary kids camp is a plus for parents and little ones.
  • The five-acre Explorer Island features water slides, a lazy river, pools, and more for endless aquatic fun.
  • Capa, the resort's rooftop Spanish steakhouse, offers Michelin-starred dining with a view of the nightly fireworks.

The resort's 443 rooms range from king guest rooms to the ultimate 3,300-square-foot Royal Suite, which can be expanded to include nine bedrooms. For a truly over-the-top experience fit for any Disney prince or princess, guests can buy out the entire 16th floor — including the Royal Suite, Presidential Suite, and additional guest rooms.

For my most recent stay, I enjoyed a newly renovated Park View Deluxe Suite, a gorgeous, modern suite with plenty of places to sprawl out after a day by the pool or at the parks. The large, furnished terrace was perfect for watching the nightly Disney World fireworks, and two bathrooms — one with a massive soaking tub — featured delightful, pomelo-scented amenities from Atelier Cologne. A dining nook was the perfect spot to eat breakfast before starting our days.

Elizabeth Rhodes/Travel + Leisure

The resort has the largest standard guest room square footage in Orlando, so know that you’ll have lots of space and luxe touches no matter which room you choose. Some rooms may have construction noise as the on-site Four Seasons Private Residences are developed, but courtesy credits are available for guests who choose an impacted room.

Six food and beverage locations offer a range of experiences and flavors for all palates.

Capa, the Michelin-starred Spanish steakhouse perched on the 17th floor, is the crown jewel of the resort’s culinary portfolio, with rooftop terraces that are the perfect spot to watch the nightly Epcot and Magic Kingdom fireworks, cocktail in hand. The menu features Spanish-style tapas (the gambas is one of my favorite dishes), grilled steaks, seafood, and more.

On the first floor, Michelin-recommended Ravello offers daily breakfast (including the Good Morning Breakfast with Goofy and His Pals on select mornings) and Italian dinner service with housemade pizza and pasta. Ravello was the first restaurant in the U.S. to receive 100 Percent Italian Taste Certification at the Platinum Level by ITA0039, showcasing its commitment to using genuine Italian ingredients in its cooking.

Outside, PB+G (which stands for Pool Bar and Grill) offers a wide range of tasty poolside bites, including salads, sandwiches, and snacks (I loved the poke bowl), plus delightful cocktails to sip from your lounge chair.  Plancha is the golf clubhouse restaurant serving Latin American-inspired casual eats and Sunday brunch. The Lobby Bar offers cocktails and bites just steps off the lobby, and nearby Lickety Split is the spot for coffee in the morning and sweet treats in the afternoon.

Of course, in-room dining is also available — ideal for those days when you’re tired from walking around the theme parks and just want to relax and put your feet up.

Courtesy of Four Seasons

Even though it’s just a short distance from the Most Magical Place on Earth and all its fan-favorite attractions and character experiences, the Four Seasons Resort Orlando at Walt Disney World Resort is a destination in its own right, with a seemingly endless supply of things to do for all ages.

The five-acre Explorer Island packs two water slides, a zero-entry family pool, a splash pad, a lush lazy river, sports courts, an indoor video gaming space, oversized outdoor games, a rock climbing wall, and more into a beautifully landscaped area surrounding a “ruined” mansion. There’s so much to do for guests of all ages in this part of the resort, but nearby, guests 21 and over can enjoy the only adults-only pool at Disney World. The serene infinity-edge Oasis Pool overlooks a peaceful lagoon and has a hot tub, plus plenty of spots to lounge for a much-appreciated oasis for adults after a day or two at the nearby theme parks. Cabana and bungalow rentals are available at the pools, too.

The Four Seasons Golf and Sports Club Orlando has an 18-hole Tom Fazio course and a 16-acre practice facility. More of a tennis fan? Reserve a time on one of the three Har-Tru tennis courts or take a lesson from the on-site tennis pro.

There’s a large fitness center with all the equipment needed for your vacation workout, plus complimentary fitness classes like yoga, group cycling, and more.

Shop around Wardrobe for high-end men’s and women’s clothing and accessories, and stop into Fable for the fanciest princess dresses for little ones, resort merchandise, and more.

The spa offers something for everyone, from traditional massages and facials to innovative IV vitamin drips and cryotherapy. After walking miles around Magic Kingdom until midnight, a 50-minute massage followed by a therapeutic session in the Somadome meditation pod was the perfect antidote to tired legs and backpack-sore shoulders. Indoor and outdoor relaxation areas include a spa tub, steam room, experience shower, and plenty of places to rest and unwind. It’s the perfect spot for parents to chill while little ones are exploring independently, thanks to the resort's complimentary childcare.

Family-friendly Offerings

There are dozens of family-friendly resorts near Disney World, but the Four Seasons offers the most luxurious take on a Disney family vacation. There’s a slew of Disney perks, including early theme park entry, complimentary transportation to the park, and views of the fireworks from some rooms and the rooftop restaurant.

Kids (and kids at heart) will not want to miss the character breakfast with Goofy and pals at Ravello, and parents can even arrange a private character breakfast for a fee in one of the resort’s event spaces. And, of course, the expansive Explorer Island offers fun for the whole family, with a water park, a massive pool, and indoor and outdoor games. Kids can even get the royal treatment at the spa when you book a Magical Moment .

And it’s not just the splashy amenities that make this a great family resort; there’s also complimentary childcare, a rare offering at Disney World. Kids for All Seasons is the resort’s curated programming for little guests ages four to 12. Every day, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., parents are invited to drop their kids off for a day of supervised fun, ranging from water activities to craft time and more, while they hit the spa or lounge by the adults-only pool. Plus, Pasta and Play at Ravello is offered on select evenings year-round, so parents can enjoy a relaxing dinner while younger guests play with the Kids for All Seasons team. Other family-focused events, like complimentary dive-in movies at the pool, are also on the schedule every week.

Accessibility and Sustainability

Accessible rooms are available, with features like wide, wheelchair-accessible doors, roll-in showers, grab bars in the bathrooms, raised toilets, and more. Service animals are allowed at the hotel, and the hotel entrance, restaurants, ballroom, and meeting areas are accessible. Pools have chair lifts or zero-entry ends.

The resort has enacted several environmentally friendly practices and charitable initiatives. The Tranquilo Golf Course at Four Seasons Golf and Sports Club Orlando is a certified wildlife sanctuary by the National Audubon Society, and the resort uses water-efficient landscaping practices. Some of the energy the resort uses is solar power from the Reedy Creek Improvement District. Beyond additional waste reduction initiatives, the resort also aims to benefit the local community by donating and delivering excess food from the breakfast buffet, donating used linens to Orlando Pet Alliance, and donating gently used furniture to other local charities.

The Four Seasons Orlando Resort is located at Walt Disney World within the ultra-luxurious and exclusive Golden Oak neighborhood. This gorgeously manicured neighborhood is just four miles from Magic Kingdom, with single-family homes starting around $5 million. Because it’s tucked away in Golden Oak, surrounded by lush greenery and multi-million-dollar homes, the resort feels worlds away from the theme park hustle and bustle. Of course, you only need to visit the rooftop bar or peek out your park-view windows to spot the fireworks and see that you’re not far away at all: It’s a short motor coach or car ride to the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom, Disney Springs, and the water parks. Universal Orlando is located about a 30-minute drive away.

The resort is about 30 minutes from Orlando International Airport (MCO) by car.

The resort has several special offers available at any given time, ranging from advance purchase discounts of up to 20 percent to special rates for Florida residents looking for a close-to-home vacation. Be sure to visit the “Offers” page on the resort’s website for the most up-to-date information as you plan your trip.

Beyond the discounts and limited-time offers, standard Four Seasons Resort Orlando rates include some exclusive, valuable perks. As mentioned above, the resort has complimentary, supervised kids camps — something you won’t find at another Disney World resort — for little ones ages four to 12. The resort also offers complimentary transportation to the Disney theme parks via cushy motor coach, and guests can enjoy 30 minutes of early theme park access, just like other guests staying on property at Disney-branded hotels. While the parks are always a good idea, the resort’s expansive pool and water park area make it easy to forgo another day of park tickets to spend time instead enjoying all the luxe amenities at the Four Seasons Resort Orlando.

China Travel Advisory

Travel advisory april 12, 2024, mainland china, hong kong & macau - see summaries.

Updated due to new national security legislation in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

Summary:  Reconsider travel to Mainland China due to the arbitrary enforcement of local laws, including in relation to exit bans, and the risk of wrongful detentions.

Exercise increased caution when traveling to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) due to the arbitrary enforcement of local laws .

Reconsider travel to the Macau Special Administrative Region (SAR) due to a limited ability to provide emergency consular services . Exercise increased caution when traveling to the Macau SAR due to the arbitrary enforcement of local laws .

See specific risks and conditions in each jurisdiction .

Mainland China – Level 3: Reconsider Travel

Reconsider travel due to the arbitrary enforcement of local laws , including in relation to exit bans, and the risk of wrongful detentions .

Summary:  The People’s Republic of China (PRC) government arbitrarily enforces local laws, including issuing exit bans on U.S. citizens and citizens of other countries, without fair and transparent process under the law.

The Department of State has determined the risk of wrongful detention of U.S. nationals by the PRC government exists in the PRC.

U.S. citizens traveling or residing in the PRC may be detained without access to U.S. consular services or information about their alleged crime. U.S. citizens in the PRC may be subjected to interrogations and detention without fair and transparent treatment under the law.

Foreigners in the PRC, including but not limited to businesspeople, former foreign-government personnel, academics, relatives of PRC citizens involved in legal disputes, and journalists have been interrogated and detained by PRC officials for alleged violations of PRC national security laws. The PRC has also interrogated, detained, and expelled U.S. citizens living and working in the PRC.

PRC authorities appear to have broad discretion to deem a wide range of documents, data, statistics, or materials as state secrets and to detain and prosecute foreign nationals for alleged espionage. There is increased official scrutiny of U.S. and third-country firms, such as professional service and due diligence companies, operating in the PRC. Security personnel could detain U.S. citizens or subject them to prosecution for conducting research or accessing publicly available material inside the PRC.

Security personnel could detain and/or deport U.S. citizens for sending private electronic messages critical of the PRC, Hong Kong SAR, or Macau SAR governments.

In addition, the PRC government has used restrictions on travel or departure from the PRC, or so-called exit bans, to:

  • compel individuals to participate in PRC government investigations;
  • pressure family members of the restricted individual to return to the PRC from abroad;
  • resolve civil disputes in favor of PRC citizens; and
  • gain bargaining leverage over foreign governments.

U.S. citizens might only become aware of an exit ban when they attempt to depart the PRC, and there may be no available legal process to contest an exit ban in a court of law. Relatives, including minor children, of those under investigation in the PRC may become subject to an exit ban.

The PRC government does not recognize dual nationality. Dual U.S.-PRC citizens and U.S. citizens of Chinese descent may be subject to additional scrutiny and harassment. If you are a U.S. citizen and choose to enter Mainland China on travel documents other than a U.S. passport and are detained or arrested, the PRC government may not notify the U.S. Embassy or the U.S. Consulates General or allow consular access.

Check with the PRC Embassy in the United States for the most updated information on travel to the PRC. In some limited circumstances travelers to Mainland China may face additional COVID-19 testing requirements to enter some facilities or events.

The Department of State does not provide or coordinate direct medical care to private U.S. citizens abroad. U.S. citizens overseas may receive PRC-approved COVID-19 vaccine doses where they are eligible.

Do not consume drugs in the PRC or prior to arriving in the PRC. A positive drug test, even if the drug was legal elsewhere, can lead to immediate detention, fines, deportation, and/or a ban from re-entering the PRC. PRC authorities may compel cooperation with blood, urine, or hair testing. Penalties for drug offense may exceed penalties imposed in the United States.

Demonstrations : Participating in demonstrations or any other activities that authorities interpret as constituting an act of secession, subversion, terrorism, or collusion with a foreign country could result in criminal charges. Be aware of your surroundings and avoid demonstrations.

XINJIANG UYGHUR AUTONOMOUS REGION, TIBET AUTONOMOUS REGION, and TIBETAN AUTONOMOUS PREFECTURES

Extra security measures, such as security checks and increased levels of police presence and surveillance, are common in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, Tibet Autonomous Region, and Tibetan Autonomous Prefectures. Authorities may impose curfews and travel restrictions on short notice.

If you decide to travel to Mainland China:

  • Enter the PRC on your U.S. passport with a valid PRC visa and keep it with you.
  • Read the travel information page for Mainland China .
  • Enroll in the  Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP)  to receive alerts and make it easier to locate you in an emergency.
  • Avoid demonstrations.
  • Exercise caution in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests.
  • Avoid taking photographs of protesters or police without permission.

Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) – Level 2: Exercise Increased Caution

Exercise increased caution due to the arbitrary enforcement of local laws .

Summary: Hong Kong SAR authorities have dramatically restricted civil liberties since the Government of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) imposed the Law of the PRC on Safeguarding National Security in the Hong Kong SAR on June 30, 2020. Following the Hong Kong SAR government’s enactment of its own Safeguarding National Security Ordinance on March 23, 2024, Hong Kong SAR authorities are expected to take additional actions to further restrict civil liberties.

The 2020 National Security Law outlines a broad range of vaguely defined offenses, such as acts of secession, subversion, terrorism, and collusion with foreign entities. The 2024 Safeguarding National Security Ordinance builds on this framework with additional vaguely defined offenses, such as treason, insurrection, theft of state secrets, sabotage against public infrastructure, and external interference. According to the legislation, these offenses are applicable to foreign nationals within the Hong Kong SAR and to individuals, including U.S. citizens and permanent residents, located outside its borders. Under these provisions, anyone who criticizes the PRC and/or Hong Kong SAR authorities may face arrest, detention, expulsion, and/or prosecution. Hong Kong SAR authorities are attempting to enforce these provisions against individuals, including U.S. citizens and permanent residents, residing outside of their jurisdiction by offering cash rewards for information leading to their arrests in the Hong Kong SAR.

Dual Nationality: The Hong Kong SAR government does not recognize dual nationality. Dual U.S.-PRC citizens and U.S. citizens of Chinese descent may be subject to additional scrutiny and harassment. If you are a dual U.S.-PRC citizen and enter Hong Kong SAR on a U.S. passport, and you are detained or arrested, PRC authorities are under an obligation to notify the U.S. Embassy or a U.S. Consulate General of your detention and to allow U.S. consular officials to have access to you. In practice, however, U.S. consular officers may be prevented from providing consular assistance, even to those who have entered on their U.S. passports. For more information, visit Consular Protection and Right of Abode in HK(SAR) for Dual Nationals - U.S. Consulate General Hong Kong & Macau .

Demonstrations : Participating in demonstrations or any other activities that authorities interpret as constituting an act of secession, subversion, terrorism, or collusion with a foreign country could result in criminal charges under the 2020 National Security Law and/or the 2024 Safeguarding National Security Ordinance. Be aware of your surroundings and avoid demonstrations.

If you decide to travel to the Hong Kong SAR:

  • Enter the Hong Kong SAR on your U.S. passport and keep it with you.
  • Read the travel information page for the Hong Kong SAR .
  • Be aware of your surroundings.
  • If you are arrested or detained, ask police or prison officials to notify U.S. Consulate General Hong Kong & Macau immediately.
  • Review the China Country Security Report from the Overseas Security Advisory Council.
  • Do not consume drugs in the Hong Kong SAR or prior to arriving in the Hong Kong SAR.
  • Follow the Department of State on  Facebook  and  Twitter . Follow U.S. Consulate General Hong Kong & Macau on  Facebook  and  Twitter .

  • Monitor local media, local transportations sites, and apps like  MTR Mobile  or  Citybus  for updates.

Macau Special Administrative Region (SAR) – Level 3: Reconsider Travel

Reconsider travel due to a limited ability to provide emergency consular services. Exercise increased caution due to the arbitrary enforcement of local laws.

Summary:  The U.S. government has a limited ability to provide emergency services to U.S. citizens in the Macau SAR due to People’s Republic of China (PRC) Ministry of Foreign Affairs travel restrictions on U.S. diplomatic personnel.

Even in an emergency, the PRC Ministry of Foreign Affairs requires all U.S. diplomatic personnel, including those accredited to the Macau SAR, to apply for and receive visas before entering the Macau SAR. Approval takes at least five to seven days, significantly limiting the U.S. government’s ability to offer timely consular services in the Macau SAR.

Dual Nationality: The Macau SAR government does not recognize dual nationality. Dual U.S.-PRC citizens and U.S. citizens of Chinese descent may be subject to additional scrutiny and harassment. If you are a dual U.S.-PRC citizen and enter the Macau SAR on a U.S. passport, and you are detained or arrested, PRC authorities are under an obligation to notify the U.S.

Demonstrations : Participating in demonstrations or any other activities that authorities interpret as constituting an act of secession, subversion, terrorism, or collusion with a foreign country could result in criminal charges. Be aware of your surroundings and avoid demonstrations.

If you decide to travel to the Macau SAR:

  • Enter the Macau SAR on your U.S. passport and keep it with you.
  • Read the travel information page for the Macau SAR .
  • If you are arrested or detained, ask police or prison officials to notify Review the China Country Security Report from the Overseas Security Advisory Council.

With access to three dining rooms and a bar car, you needn’t worry about being confined to your suite—though once you’re ensconced, it’s remarkably easy to spend hours marveling over the details in the captivating space. Each Grand Suite is named for cities along the route—Istanbul, Venice, Budapest—and showcase beautifully inlaid panels, delicate marquetry work, Venetian-style lanterns, and myriad hidden compartments. Large picture windows next to the king-size bed and dining table provide views of towering mountains, rivers, and quaint villages as you sip Champagne and nibble on blini topped with Beluga caviar. Even the two closets are small wonders (no easy feat on a train), with lovely curved doors and enough room for shoes and three hangers, which is all you need for your eveningwear and a smart change of clothes or two. The ample marble shower boasts elegant brass fittings, and, somehow, there’s a surfeit of power outlets and USB chargers nestled within this paragon of old-world luxury.

The first of this year’s Solaire Journeys rolled from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur via the Eastern & Oriental Express, while the year’s final voyage—from Cusco, Peru, to Arequipa and Machu Picchu—will take place in October aboard two Belmond trains: the Hiram Bingham and the Andean Explorer. In July, we traveled from Vienna to Reims on the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express (a nod to the fact that Madame Clicquot’s first exported bottles were delivered to Venice) for an over-the-top exercise in hospitality that included a pre-trip stay at Vienna’s Hotel Imperial, a former palace that properly sets the stage for the pampering ahead.

An enchanting Art Deco–style suite.

The opening-night dinner in the Lichtenstein Palace , followed by a carriage ride around the ancient city the next morning, conjures a level of royal treatment that carries over seamlessly as soon as you set foot on the train. Vintage Veuve Clicquot and La Grande Dame flow freely the entire trip, particularly during the multicourse lunch prepared by Imbert and chef Mory Sacko during a stop at the Champagne house’s limestone crayères in Reims, ending only when you finally pull into the station in Paris three days later. In between, there’s nighttime entertainment in the bar car featuring piano and burlesque dancers, in-suite breakfasts of caviar-topped omelet—served with more vintage Veuve, naturally—and, the closing surprise, a live DJ set paired with Champagne and sliders during the final 90 minutes of your adventure. Disembarking from such a lavish fantasy world was a difficult step down, indeed.
