Any info greatly appreciated,

can you visit atlantis dubai for the day

Yes you can, although why anyone would want to incur the expense of a taxi out there just to take photos of an hotel lobby always puzzles me.

You could go for lunch I guess.

Im hoping it was going to be impressive having never been to dubai I dont know! Is there no metro there mariner and if not how much would a taxi be? Helen

You can see pictures of the hotel lobby on the travellers review site here

http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Review-g295424-d1022759-Reviews-Atlantis_The_Palm-Dubai_Emirate_of_Dubai.html

And you can see videos of the hotel lobby on You Tube - here is one

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-D8zSLd5h0c

Not sure it's impressive enough to go all the way there from wherever you are.

If you actually want to see the shape of the Palm then you are better going for a drink to the Observatory bar on the 53rd floor of the Marriott Harbour hotel (happy hour 2 for 1 drinks between 5.30 and 7pm)

The metro doesn't go anywhere near Atlantis so you would have to take the metro to the nearest station, Nakheel, and then get a taxi from there or a taxi all the way to Atlantis from where you will be before you set off.

It's not possible to tell you how much a taxi will cost unless we know where you're starting from.

Thanks a lot latimer I will make a note of that bar. We are staying next to the mall if the emirates but like you said earlier we could do lunch at the Atlantis. Thanks again. Helen

The ultimate guide to Atlantis The Palm, Dubai

Atlantis, The Palm Jumeirah, Dubai

Just 20 minutes from downtown Dubai , Atlantis is a prime entertainment destination featuring two world-class mega-resorts at the crown of The Palm Jumeirah , the first man-made island in Dubai. Known for underwater hotel suites and Dubai’s largest waterpark, the area has plenty of fun, food, and family adventure to offer day-trippers and guests of Atlantis The Palm or Atlantis The Royal Resort (late 2021 opening).

For the ultimate value-for-money trip, here’s everything you need to know to get the most from your visit to Atlantis, The Palm. We're talking must-do activities, value-for-money restaurants, saving hacks, traveler tips, ticket prices, how to get to Atlantis, and more.

Grab your resort map and follow along.

Things to do at Atlantis Dubai

1. chase thrills at atlantis aquaventure waterpark.

Aquaconda, Dubai Aquaventure Waterpark

The crowd-puller of The Palm Jumeirah, the Atlantis Aquaventure Waterpark is Dubai’s biggest waterpark and has featured in global television programs like “The Amazing Race”. Spanning 148 acres, this extreme theme park comprises over 100 rides and watersports experiences across three towers, and is renowned for its record-breaking “Leap of Faith” at Neptune Tower where riders plunge nearly 60ft vertically (9 storeys) down a slide that goes through a frightening shark tank. Must-try new rides include “Odyssey of Terror”, the world’s tallest waterslide, and “Blackout”, the Middle East’s tallest vertical drop slide.

Hot tip: before you go, strap your phone to your arm in a waterproof case – it'll save you repeat trips to the lockers after rides. Save cost by bringing your own towels, and save your feet from sweltering surfaces by wearing water shoes. And don't wear cotton on rides, or you won't be allowed in. Final word of advice? Go on a weekday when the park opens at 10am for fewer crowds and shorter wait times. You're in for an epic adventure.

Admission and towels are free for Atlantis hotel guests. Otherwise, visitors pay AED269 (USD73) for entry. Save money with a 2-in-1 admission ticket including the Lost Chambers Aquarium here.

2. Get close to marine life at Sea Lion Point and Dolphin Bay

Sea Lion Point, Atlantis Aquaventure Waterpark, The Palm Jumeirah, Dubai

Love wildlife? Play with precocious sea lions, swim with bubbly dolphins, and have a blast learning all about them in interactive shows by accredited trainers. Located within the Atlantis Aquaventure Waterpark , this fun family vacation activity (~30 minutes - 1 hour) is incredibly popular among kids, with an option to buy the photos taken during your interaction. There are multiple experience options for each area: Dip & Play, Meet & Greet, Swim & Explore – so check carefully before booking. Go early at 11am before the park gets crowded.

Selfies and shows are free for hotel guests. Otherwise, visitors pay upwards of AED595 (USD160) for tickets. If you're going, book direct on the official site – your ticket will include admission to the Aquaventure Waterpark.

3. Go on underwater adventures at Lost Chambers Aquarium

The Lost Chambers Aquarium, Atlantis, Dubai

No trip to Atlantis is complete without a visit to the largest aquarium in the UAE . Perfect for snorkelers, divers, and marine wildlife lovers, this underwater labyrinth depicts an ancient paradise teeming with over 65,000 marine animals. Come face to face with sharks, jellyfish, seahorses, endangered Napolean wrasses and even albino alligators, with additional snorkeling and diving options readily available . You can even do yoga in the aquarium if you book in advance .

It takes about 1 hour to explore the entire aquarium. If you're looking to skip to the most IG-worthy spots, don't miss The Jellyfish Aquarium and the Seven Sages Chamber.

Admission is free for hotel guests. Otherwise, visitors pay AED85 (USD23) for entry. If you're going to Aquaventure Waterpark too, get bundle admission here .

4. Splash out on family-friendly fun and games at the Wavehouse

Wavehouse Dubai, Atlantis, Dubai

Kick back with a cold one at the Wavehouse , a funky two-story entertainment hub with more than 50 games scattered within a technicolor indoor arcade. Among the highlights: a realistic surf machine, the world’s largest Pac-Man, a bowling alley (one of the only two licensees in Dubai), stage areas where a live band plays three nights a week, daily happy hour from 5 p.m - 7 p.m. with 50% off selected drinks and games, and 13 flavors of shisha. Outside, a beach-themed terrace provides a perfect vantage spot for watching new surfers catch their first wave.

Turn up for Ladies' Night on Tuesdays to get a free drink per pax. Because Wavehouse is a popular haunt for after-dark escapades, reserve a table in advance if you're going after 5 p.m.

5. Relax your senses with a spa-cation at ShuiQi Spa

ShuiQi Spa, Atlantis The Palm Jumeirah, Dubai

For a quintessential Atlantis luxury experience, pamper yourself at the award-winning ShuiQi Spa. Located in the Royal Towers of Atlantis, this wellness spa and fitness centre is the hallmark of relaxation in Dubai, offering a huge range of spa packages, manicures, pedicures, massage services, haircare, scrubs and facials to spoil yourself with. Here’s a secret: Parents can drop their kids off at the Atlantis Kids Club to catch a few hours of me time at the spa.

Signature treatments start from ~AED1,100 (USD300). If you're fishing for a discount, use the Entertainer app to access discounts (up to ~AED 1,600 or USD436) on spacations, facials, and massages.

The best restaurants in Atlantis Dubai

1. seafire steakhouse.

Tomahawk, Seafire Steakhouse, Atlantis The Palm, Dubai

One of Atlantis’ signatures, Seafire Steakhouse boasts an open kitchen and walk-in wine cellar, and specializes in the finest seafood and prime cut selections. Customization on your meal is endless—from the cut, age and marble score of your steak, down to your choice of knife, the variety of salts used, and the type of (and how much) house-made sauce you drizzle on. Steaks start from AED195 (USD53) which means you can rack up quite the bill, but the experience is well worth it. If you're budget-conscious, you'll be happy to know that kids below 11 years old eat for free between 5 p.m. - 7 p.m.

Saffron, Atlantis The Palm, Dubai

Eat your way around Dubai’s largest Asian buffet, with over 220 dishes on offer and 20 live cooking stations to watch top chefs chop, sizzle and dice your dishes right in front of you. Don’t miss Saffron 's famous themed dinners on rotation every week, but visit on a day that suits your taste. Tripadvisor travelers particularly love seafood night on Tuesdays, where lobsters, crabs, sashimi, and oysters flow endlessly. Check the line-up here before going, and call ahead to reserve your seat for your favorite themed night. Note that the dress code here is smart-casual.

Themed buffets start at AED245/pax (USD67) for a world of excellent Asian variety. Bring cash to avoid a long wait in the notoriously long card billing queue.

Black Cod Miso, Nobu, Atlantis Dubai

If you’ve never heard of celebrity chef Nobu Matsuhisa before, his Japanese-Peruvian signature dishes are a great introduction. Specifically, try his world-famous black cod in miso pictured above. Nobu Dubai houses Chef Nobu’s tasteful reimaginings of iconic dishes that hail from both cultures, resulting from years of improvisation following a mid-career move to Peru. A spread of omakase sets and other fusion specialties are on the menu, made fresh to order with ample explanations and suggestions thrown in from the crew upon request. Omakase sets start at AED475 (USD130).

Friday set menu brunches are a popular choice too, with beef dishes and black cod lettuce wraps among the top highlights. As with all popular food destinations, book in advance before going.

The best beach clubs in Atlantis Dubai

1. white beach dubai.

WHITE Beach Dubai, Atlantis, Dubai

The newest adults-only addition to Atlantis’ beach club scene, WHITE Beach has built a reputation as a premier party destination in the area. With two poolside bars, an outdoor restaurant, and an infinity pool with picture-perfect views of Dubai's downtown skyline, guests stretch out on boho-style sun loungers across an open-air terrace. All day long, resident DJs are on deck to spin Mediterranean soundscapes and Ibizan rhythms that take you far, far away from here. A perfect setting for brunches and sundown parties.

Turn up for Ladies’ Night on Tuesdays to get unlimited wines and cocktails for AED150 (USD41), while gents get to redeem AED150 (USD41) worth of food and drinks. Only guests 21 and above are allowed into the club.

On a normal day, drinks-only prices start at AED150 (USD41).

2. Paradise Beach

Paradise Beach, Atlantis, The Palm Jumeirah, Dubai

Perfect for lazy sun-soaked afternoons, Paradise Beach offers great deals on bottomless brunch and teatime packages on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Day beds are available for lounging all across the terrace, facing spectacular panoramas of the Burj Al Arab and the Dubai Marina. Where drinks flow, music follows – go from electronic to dreamy house to oriental, paired by DJs with live instrumentals. Check out the most updated program on their website.

Tripadvisor travelers recommend Ladies’ Day on Mondays from 12 p.m. - 5 p.m. for a great AED120 (USD33) deal on bottomless brunch. Otherwise, the usual drink and tapas bundles also start from AED120 (USD33).

Things to do around Atlantis Dubai

1. enjoy a romantic boat ride and the palm fountain show.

Dubai Fountains Show Lake Ride, The Pointe, Atlantis Dubai

Showing every half-hour from 6 p.m. to midnight daily at The Pointe Waterfront , the grand Palm Fountain lights up in a kaleidoscopic array of LED, synchronized to hit songs, from sunset to midnight. Next to the spectacle, the neighboring Burj Khalifa dazzles in splendid technicolor. Trust us – the world’s biggest fountain looks even better up close. There’s no place you’d rather be than gliding alongside on a dreamy 30-minute boat ride , with plenty of chances to take pictures.

Boat rides start at AED111 (USD 31) per pax , but the fountain show is otherwise free for onlookers by the waterfront.

Speed along the coast of The Palm Jumeirah on a jet-ski adventure

Jet-ski Adventures in front of the Burj Al Arab, Atlantis The Palm Jumeirah, Dubai

For pros and beginners alike, feed your need for speed with a family-friendly jet ski ride around the waterfront , with an energetic guide showing off some jet skiing tricks along the way. Choose to ride alone or with a friend, but rest assured that the technical briefing at the start will cover all your questions about operating a jet-ski. Don’t miss your chance to snap pictures right in front of the Burj Al Arab.

Adventures are priced at AED683 (USD186). Pick a morning slot to beat the oppressive afternoon heat.

2. Admire Dubai’s urban skyline at 101 Dining Lounge and Bar

101 Dining Lounge & Bar, One&Only The Palm, Atlantis, The Palm Jumeirah, Dubai

For couch seating with unparalleled views, try getting a seat at the deck on the terrace directly facing the Expo.

Prices vary by season, but 101 is known for luxury prices. To get more out of your trip there, opt for the alternative scenic route on your way out and exit through the gardens to One & Only The Palm .

The Atlantis on The Palm in Dubai is a five-star hotel and a dazzling and adventurous getaway location featuring a massive waterpark, world-class aquatic attractions, fine dining and global cuisine, and much more. Making the journey and deciding which of the many attractions to choose from can be a daunting task, but with the right preparations you can plan an unforgettable vacation.

Planning Your Travel

Step 1 Visit between November and March for the best weather.

  • Some travellers book trips during the summer months or off-season in order to get better deals on hotel and flight prices. If you choose to do so, just be aware of the higher temperatures.
  • If you choose to visit during the holy month of Ramadan (between May and June in 2018 and 2019), it may be difficult to find food being sold between sunrise and sunset, and it may come off as culturally insensitive if you choose to consume food publicly during this time.

Step 2 Plan your trip at least six months in advance.

  • The weekend in Dubai goes from Friday to Saturday, so keep this in mind while planning your trip and note that some businesses may be closed on these days. [2] X Research source

Step 4 Pack clothes for summer weather.

  • It’s a good idea to bring a jacket or cover-up for night-time and air-conditioned indoor spaces like malls and restaurants.
  • Dubai is a global, forward-thinking city and is generally tolerant of world cultures, so no need to try to mimic Arabic styles of dress. Wearing casual street-clothes that you would wear in your home country is fine as long as the clothes are relatively modest.

Step 5 Make sure your passport is up-to-date and apply for a visa if necessary.

  • Be sure to have a confirmed round-trip ticket and a passport valid for six months after arrival when you go through customs in Dubai in order to ensure you’ll be granted a visa.
  • Visa requirements differ by country, so check the UAE immigration website to see whether you qualify for a visa on arrival or need to apply ahead of time. Visit https://www.emirates.com/english/before-you-fly/visa-passport-information/uae-visa-information/ .

Booking Your Trip

Step 1 Purchase a round-trip plane ticket to Dubai International Airport (DXB).

  • If you’re looking to splurge, consider the club suites a signature suites, which include spacious family-sized room options and exciting options like the Poseidon and Neptune Underwater suites.
  • All hotel rooms at Atlantic come with complimentary unlimited access to the Aquaventure Waterpark and the Lost Chambers Aquarium.
  • If you need special accommodations, call ahead and ask the concierge what options are available.

Step 3 Make dinner reservations ahead of time.

  • There are several more casual and outdoor restaurants that don't need reservations if you prefer to play it by ear.

Step 4 Plan your route from the airport to Atlantis.

  • Taxis are relatively cheap in Dubai, and it’s easy to navigate the city solely by taxi. App-based ride services like Uber and Careem are also available.
  • Dubai is expanding its metro system, but it currently doesn’t have a station at Atlantis. [6] X Research source

Step 5 Book a helicopter tour for a special and memorable way to experience Dubai from above.

  • Helicopter tours can be arranged by emailing the concierges at Atlantis.

Enjoying the Attractions

Step 1 Go on slides and water rides in the Aquaventure water park.

  • The Aquaventure water park includes interconnecting waterways where you can float on an innertube and journey throughout the park. The Rapids are a 1.6 km river ride, and The Torrent is a wave generator that produces tides reaching over a meter high. [8] X Research source
  • Guests must be at least 12 years old and 4 feet tall (1.2 meters) in order to ride the larger water slides at Atlantis, including the Aquaconda, the world’s largest water-slide. The Splashers Play Area offers water slides, climbing frames, and water cannons that younger children can enjoy. [9] X Research source

Step 2 Swim with dolphins at Dolphin Bay.

  • The Dolphin Encounter is an opportunity for guests of all ages to wade in a pool and interact with dolphins, while the Dolphin Adventure takes place in a deep pool and includes a belly-ride with a dolphin. Tickets should be purchased well in advance, and range from 200 USD to 400 USD per guest.

Step 3 Observe the marine life at the Lost Chambers Aquarium.

  • The aquarium contains 10 themed chambers and is home to over 65,000 marine animals and more than 250 species of fish. [10] X Research source
  • The Lost Chambers Aquarium offers several educational tours and guided experiences, including a yoga class. Some of these, including the yoga class, have limited space and need to be booked in advance to guarantee a spot.

Step 4 Relax at the Shuiqi Spa.

  • Shiseido is a facial and body treatment designed as a combination of Eastern and Western traditions, techniques, and technologies. [11] X Research source

Step 5 Take a trip to downtown Dubai.

  • You can access downtown Dubai from Atlantis in 30 minutes by car or taxi ride.
  • The Dubai Mall located in downtown is the largest shopping mall in the world, and it is the most-visited retail and entertainment building on the planet, welcoming tens of millions of visitors every year. [12] X Research source

Step 6 Get in touch with the local culture at the Al-Fahidi historical neighborhood or souks along Dubai Creek.

  • If you take a day trip to downtown Dubai, within a short taxi ride you can find Al-Fahidi historical neighborhood, where you can see an example of the old way of life in Dubai and get exposed to traditional-style architecture. [13] X Research source
  • Encircling the downtown area is the Dubai Creek, where various merchants and traders presenting items from around the Middle East have set up stalls to market and sell their goods. [14] X Research source

Atlantis Aquaventure: What You Need to Know Before Visiting

can you visit atlantis dubai for the day

We had a wet n’ wild blast at Atlantis Aquaventure during our stay at the amazing family resort in Dubai – Atlantis the Palm . We all can’t wait to go back to one of the biggest water parks in the world for more water coasters and body slides. It even holds a Guinness World Record for having the most water slides in a park. After running wild there for 10 days with two little ones, I can tell you all about Atlantis Aquaventure: what you need to know before visiting… what NOT to bring, how to avoid the lines and crowds, toddler and safety tips, and more.

As a certified travel advisor, I can also get you discounted tickets for the park, dolphin experiences and more! Usually it’s about a 15% discount, which really adds up!

General tips, baby and toddler tips, safety tips, how to book tickets and experiences.

The early bird gets the…

Wwwaterslide, without long lines that is. The earlier, the better.

Stay in the hotel as a guest, so you can get to the park early. Read all about our unforgettable stay at Atlantis the Palm if you’re not sure. Then email me if you have questions or before you book it, as I have access to discounted rates and perks as a travel advisor (my services are free for booking hotels, as the commission is built in already).

I think it’s worth it to bust your butt to get there when those pearly gates open. It gets pretty crowded by late morning in the kid’s areas, and even earlier at the slides.

This was probably around 10am. It gets much busier than this, ohhh believe me.

Atlantis water park Dubai

The least crowded water slides are those closest to the new(ish) Royal towers (e.g. Trident Tower in the bottom right of the map below). You have to try Vortex and Blackout, my personal favorites in that area. The lines grew longer as the day and week went on of course.

If you are a true thrill seeker, then Leap of Faith and Poseidon’s Revenge are where it’s at. I conquered Leap of Faith in my younger years, ya know, 30, and I just didn’t feel the need to do it again.

Take note if you are not the thrill seeker you once were… I wanted revenge on my husband after I tried Poseidon’s Revenge, the slide that he said I just had to try. As I stood on the platform waiting to be dropped, yes literally, down the plastic tube, I went through every scenario of what could possibly go wrong, the newspaper headline, the…until it was too late. Luckily, reality beat my imagination that day.

Our taller than average five-year-old was able to ride the group slide, Zoomerango, with us – what a blast we had together! He was a bit nervous in line but ended up doing it six more times after. He’s a McFadden, of course he loved it!

The protective mama in me had my leg locked over his leg, my hand over his hand, while we held on for dear life. I’m sure someone will comment below saying that I caused more harm than good. But he was over the height requirement, so there!

Zoomerango and Poseidon’s Revenge are in Poseidon Tower. There is also a shallow zero entry pool next to that tower, where the kids played while my husband and I took solo turns torturing ourselves.

Check out the map below of the entire Atlantis Aquaventure Water Park:

Water shoes

They provide Aquasocks (Atlantis-approved water ‘shoes’) for FREE!!! They were a lifesaver because the water shoes that I brought for the kids weren’t allowed on the slides. The water socks they give you are literally like ankle socks – they are that thin. A lifeguard said that the material on standard water shoes prevents you from sliding so it’s a safety hazard (and would be too slow for me!).

The Aquasocks counter is on the right, about 150 feet past the entrance.

atlantis aquaventure dubai aqua socks

To walk through the park, I’d wear something with more cushion, like these crocs and better-priced knock off crocs from Amazon. Although now I wish I had seen these Peppa Pig crocs before I bought these cute pink ones from Walmart.

Leave the Moolah in the Room-ah

You’ll receive a new Aquaband each day when you enter the park that they will collect when you leave. Use this to charge food and drinks to your hotel room so you don’t have to carry anything valuable.

If you are just visiting for the day, download the Aquaband+ App and use it to “tap and pay” and check wait times for rides.

Our five-year-old wore his but they did not have our two-year-old wear one. Otherwise, we would have had one heck of a bill in ice cream charges.

Other Perks..

Towels are provided – find them (or if you’re like me, leave it to your sweet husband to find them) in little huts scattered throughout the park. I still don’t know where they are!

If you didn’t figure it out from the map yet, walking through the park can be time-consuming and tiring depending on your age, your kids’ ages, and the heat. Hop on a “shuttle” golf cart when you see one!

Get your surf on! Yes, they have a wave simulator for surfing! It’s in the Wavehouse and it’s free for hotel guests. Visitors pay 100 AED for all day use, but free all-day access is included with purchase of Atlantis Aquaventure Water Park tickets.

Our five-year-old fit in the smallest pair, no problem. They were too big for our two-year-old, but I just folded over the top and they stayed on her all day (with a couple re-adjustments).

Atlantis Aquaventure with toddler

They were cute little water booties!

They do sell baby and toddler water socks for about $12-20 depending on how stylish you wanna get.

Toddler Options

There are plenty of slides, splash zones, and water play areas for babies and toddlers.

waterslides with toddlers

Who knows, maybe you’ll have some fun yourself on the kiddy slides.

Mamas can have fun too, ya know…

atlantis aquaventure dubai with kids

My husband and I are both still kids at heart (as you can see), so we took turns going solo on the bigger slides in Poseidon Tower while the other one had fun with the kiddos.

Least-Crowded Areas

Alright, it’s the moment you’ve been waiting for…

The big reveal…

The least crowded children’s play areas are (drum roll please)…

~ SPLASHER’S LAGOON and SPLASHER’S COVE ~

– two new additions to Atlantis Aquaventure Water Park.

Atlantis Aquaventure Dubai

They are a bit further from the main entrance but much less crowded. There are plenty of shaded sun loungers, little slides, tube rides, and convenient direct access to the beach.

Our little ones had a blast the first few days at Splasher’s Island and Splasher’s Mountain, both of which are near the park entrance (to the left). But as the people poured in later in the day and on the weekend, it became almost annoyingly crowded.

But if you get to the park early, then start at Splasher’s Mountain and then make your way to Splasher’s Cove before noon.

Atlantis Aquaventure Dubai splash mountain

I know you’re thinking, “what do you expect at a water park?” But I was thrilled when we discovered the more relaxing cove and lagoon. It’s all stimulating enough as it is.

Bring it! Well, ideally reserve one in advance from the hotel so you don’t even have to pack it. Then take it to Atlantis Aquaventure if you plan on walking to Splasher’s Cove. It’s guaranteed your little one will be too tired after going wild on the slides. Besides, it’s easier to carry everything!

Swim diapers

Just another item that I saw them provide to some parents in a pinch.

Although we were always with our kids in the water play areas, one of the structures was so convoluted that it was hard to always see our kid zippity-do-dahhing around.

If you can use a waterproof watch case or another way to protect it, I’d consider placing an Apple Air Tag on your child. It’s basically a “tracker” using your iPhone.

We established set rules and to not leave the play area for any reason, but, he’s five. And if your little ones get as amped as ours do, they might be tough to see in those play zones. Our kid might as well have been in another world.

Rest assured, there are alert and attentive lifeguards about every 15-20 feet, so your child is safe. They were so helpful, assisting the little ones on and off the slides. They even had our girl laughing and smiling, which is a rarity with strangers.

splasher's cove atlantis aquaventure

Bring a waterproof phone pouch lanyard . I did not . And I regret it. No, mine didn’t get soaked like it did jumping waves in Cabo. But it came close enough.

And you’re not going to want to miss this shot!

Atlantis Aquaventure waterslides with toddler

Beat the heat and use the provided water shoes. My feet couldn’t take the pounding, so I wore my flip flops to walk to the slides and then through my sandals into the shoe cubbies and threw on my water shoes.

Life jackets are available for the little ones. Our daughter was on the bigger side of a two-year-old and the XS fit her well (even though she wanted the pink , which was a small, of course).

Throw the kids in rash guards for some sunny peace of mind. It’ll save on sunscreen and time. Our toddler can’t stand the rashguard, so she won that one. Pick your battles, especially when on vacation.

The dolphin experience is a once-in-a-lifetime kind of adventure. I can’t wait until our kids are old enough to do it! You have to be at least 8 years old. I’ve watched this though, and it looks unreal what they’re able to do with these beautiful animals!

Be sure to book your tickets in advance though to get the best times!

Day Trip to Atlantis: 11 Things to Do for Non Guests

How to help with Hurricane Dorian Relief, info featured by top US travel blog, Running in Heels

Atlantis is a beautiful, but heavily guarded place. Located on Paradise Island in Nassau, Bahamas, about five minutes from downtown Nassau, Bahamas. There is security on every corner and every doorway asking for your room key (they’re dated) or your wristband. There are, however, a few places you can go without these things. Of course, Atlantis isn’t known for being a bargain, so nothing is free, but some things you can do without a day pass, though your options are limited. If you are traveling to the Bahamas , I recommend a day trip to visit Atlantis . Below are the top things to do for non-guests!

“Free” Things To Do on a Day Trip to Atlantis – No Day Pass Needed

Atlantis doesn’t do “free” well, so by “free” I really mean, you can enter for free, but it’s assumed you’ll spend money while you are there. Don’t expect to access much of the property. Without a Day Pass, you’ll likely not be able to get past security to see much of the resort. They were very strict about wristbands and room keys (which are dated with your checkout date). The only places you are able to access are the Casino, Marina Village, and the lobby areas. You will not be allowed to go into the resort to view the marine life habitats or outside to the pool areas. Forget about seeing the crystal blue waters at the beach without a pass, so if that is your goal, scroll down and take a look at what you can do with a day pass!

Marina Village

Marina Village is located next to the hotel on the edge of the marina. It is full of colorful shops, restaurants, and street vendors. Though it is open to the public and looks separate, it is an extension of the Atlantis property, so reservations to restaurants will be more difficult to get since guests of the hotel take priority.

Shops available range from Atlantis souvenirs to Rum Cake Vendors, Pirhana Joe, and several luxury jewelry stores.

The Atlantis Casino is open to the public at all times. Of course, everyone can come in and gamble their money away! The casino is truly amazing, with 85 gaming tables and over 700 slot machines. With several restaurants inside, it also features famous glass art sculptures by the renowned artist, Dale Chihuly. Note: Children are not allowed in the casino, and the gambling age in the Bahamas is 18.

Joker’s Wild Comedy Club

For the price of a ticket (around $20-30), you can get into the comedy club, which is open to the public. Every day Joker’s Wild Comedy Club hosts some of “television’s funniest comics”. When we were there we saw Valarie Storm and Johnny Lee Dam .

Go Shopping

Inside Atlantis, there is more shopping. Just outside of the Casino on either side, you’ll find several luxury designer boutiques among additional souvenir shops.

Book a Spa Day

The Mandara Spa is open to the public, so you can book your spa day at Atlantis without being a guest. However, there is limited availability, so book ahead of your trip to secure your spot! Before your service even starts you can enjoy the sauna in addition to warm and cold plunge pools. Click here for details on spa services .

Atlantis Dolphin Cay

Atlantis has its own manmade, open-air dolphin habitat created in response to Hurricane Katrina destroying the habitat of 17 stranded dolphins. During your visit, you can book one of many experiences in the Dolphin Cay ranging from snorkeling, swimming, kayaking, and more with dolphins and sea lions. Here is a list of experiences you may book at the Dolphin Cay . Book ahead, they fill up fast! Every visit benefits the Atlantis Blue Project Foundation , which is dedicated to saving sea species and their habitats.

*When you purchase the Dolphin Cay, you may have the opportunity to bundle it with a Day Pass.

Can You Take Photos in the Dolphin Cay?

If you have someone in your party watching from shore, they will have to pay a small fee (under $20) to get into the beach area as well. There is a free viewing area, but it is too far away for photos for the most part. I’d recommend having them pay to get in, that fee will be much less expensive than the professional photos. If you do love some of the professional photos they take but don’t want a whole package, wait until you get home and download from the website they give you. You can get a single download for half of the price they sell it for in the shop. The professional photographer took the photo below and I think it was worth the cost!

Day Trip to Atlantis for Non Guests

Marine Experiences

In addition to the Dolphin Cay, there are other marine experiences you can sign up for including snorkel, scuba, shark encounters, stingray experiences, and more . We have not had these experiences, but they look incredible! With your purchase of a Marine Experience, you may be able to bundle with a day pass. Additionally, each booked experience with Every Atlantis Adventure and Blue Adventure benefits the Atlantis Blue Project Foundation .

Things To Do on a Day Trip to Atlantis with a Day-Pass

There are several different types of Day-Passes, once purchased, you are good to roam the properties, just as a guest. You can purchase a day pass through the front desk, your cruise line, or online ahead of time. With a Day Pass, you’ll have the same access as resort guests and access to the amenities, restaurants, pools, marine life habitats, and beaches.

Aquaventure Park + Pools

The Aquaventure Park is one of the most notable features of Atlantis, and I think it’s the most fun water park in the Caribbean! There are seven water slides, two rivers, one lazy river, and one rapid river, as well as 11 pools and four private beaches. The beaches are white sand with gorgeous clear blue waters. Cove Beach was one of our favorites!

Marine Habitats

Atlantis is home to the largest open-air marine habitat in the world. Throughout all of Atlantis, there are amazing aquariums and marine life habitats including sharks, manta rays, turtles, dolphins, stingrays, and so many more. As you walk the grounds you can find the habitats and learn about the marine life inside.

An aquarium home to some of the world’s most exotic sea creatures. Fashioned after the lost continent of Atlantis, The Dig features 8 separate exhibits featuring several different fish and marine creatures. In The Dig you might even see their giant manta ray!

Lay on the Private Beach

Private beaches are another benefit of getting a day pass to Atlantis. Chairs, umbrellas, and towels are all available to you to use by the pools and on the beaches. The beaches are uncrowded with white sand and crystal clear waters. I promise the view is something you can’t get sick of!

Marine Habitats: 0:10 The Dig: 1:40 , 5:47 Marina Village: 1:52 , 5:42 Aquaventure Park: 3:40 Private Beach: 6:14 Dolphin Cay: 6:46 Joker’s Wild Comedy Club: 9:00 Casino: 11:53

Looks so fun! I’d love to visit Atlantis!

http://innapishtoy.com/

Thank you! It was such a great time!

Basically you can only visit to Casino as a Non Visitor for free. Otherwise Atlantis has Day pass and always blocked by security. So don’t waste time trying to sneak in.

Yes, definitely was not suggesting anyone try to sneak in. Please purchase your day pass for the necessary activities!

So with a day pass, can one sit on Beach chairs at any of the beaches?

I believe the chairs are free but you would need to reserve and pay for a cabana.

11 Tips & Tricks for Atlantis Aquaventure Waterpark in Dubai (2024 Info)

Thinking of visiting Atlantis Aquaventure Waterpark in Dubai, UAE, and feeling overwhelmed? You’re not alone! Planning a visit to the world’s largest water park might look like a daunting task while all you want to do is simply have a good time and enjoy the best it has to offer.

We have been to Aquaventure when visiting Dubai with kids a few times. However, those trips were several years apart, the kids had different ages, and every time, I struggled to find information that I was looking for. Let alone find answers to all those questions in one place…

So in this guide, I share all the information we wish we had known before our recent visit to Atlantis Aquaventure water park. This way, you can find all the main info in one place. I hope that our experience-based tips and advice will help you make the most out of your time and money. Find out!

Tips and tricks for first visit to Atlantis Aquaventure waterpark in Dubai UAE

Here are our top tips for visiting Atlantis Aquaventure Waterpark in Dubai:

1. Book tickets online (& well in advance)

There are several reasons why you should book your tickets for Atlantis Aquaventure online and in advance.

First, online tickets are cheaper than at the entrance. Furthermore, if you book tickets at least a week in advance, the prices are usually about another 10% lower. So by booking online and well in advance, you can save about 18% compared to buying tickets at the park entrance.

And finally, with online tickets, you can go straight to the entrance skipping the queues at the ticket desk, which saves you time.

TIP: While you can get tickets on the official website , we recommend booking via GetYourGuide . The price is the same, but the GetYourGuide website is so much easier to use. Plus, they have a very flexible cancellation policy. In addition, you can pay in your own currency which means that they apply the official exchange rate. Whereas paying in AED often costs you quite a lot extra in credit card fees and deviations in exchange rates.

Through GetYourGuide, you can also book all other popular tickets for Aquaventure, including dolphin experiences (those have timed slots are best booked well in advance too!).

Good to know: If you are planning to visit Aquaventure more than once, it’s better to buy a multi-day pass at the park entrance. They also have annual and season passes. If you are staying at Atlantis The Palm Hotel , you enjoy FREE access to the waterpark. So if you are planning to spend several days in this waterpark, it might be worth considering staying at the hotel, especially if you are traveling with a family and outside the peak season when hotel prices are more affordable.

Our experience: Every time we went to Aquaventure, it was only once during the trip. So we simply bought our tickets online via GetYourGuide . At the entrance, you show the QR codes and that’s it – it’s all very simple and straightforward.

2. Get a combo ticket with Lost Chambers Aquarium

Atlantis The Palm Hotel is not only home to the Aquaventure Waterpark, but it also houses the Lost Chambers Aquarium . These two are located just next to one another and you will pass the aquarium on your way to the water park entrance.

Therefore, many people visiting Aquaventure Waterpark also visit the Aquarium. However, the regular entry ticket for the Aquarium alone costs about 135 AED (+-34euros). As much as we liked this impressive aquarium, this price feels way too high for what it is… Especially if you are visiting with a family and the costs quickly add up…

This was also the reason why we skipped the aquarium on our previous visit – it just wasn’t worth the price. However, nowadays they have a combo ticket for Aquaventure + Lost Chambers Aquarium and it offers very good value.

TIP: So instead of buying separate tickets for the water park and the aquarium, you can get this combo ticket and visit both. It’s A LOT cheaper this way and makes a visit to the aquarium a nice addition to your day.

Good to know: Aquaventure Waterpark is open until 6 PM, whereas the Lost Chambers Aquarium remains open until 9 PM. So you can easily visit here at the end of the day, when the water park is already closed (or when you had enough of it).

Please also note that Aquaventure tickets that include dolphin experiences usually do not include Lost Chambers Aquarium.

3. Avoid weekends

If you think the main attractions in Dubai are busy during the week, then just try to imagine them on weekends.

Since Atlantis Aquaventure Waterpark is popular with pretty much all age groups (families, teens, young adults, etc.), it attracts lots of local visitors as well. And when do locals have time for water parks? On weekends and school holidays, of course.

So if you want to avoid the biggest crowds and enjoy the park to the fullest, try to avoid visiting Atlantis Aquaventure on weekends.

Good to know: Weekends in the UAE start on Friday afternoon and last until Sunday. So the best days to visit Aquaventure are between Monday and Thursday. In addition, you may want to check if there are any public holidays during your visit as well (and avoid those).

Quiet times at Atlantis Aquaventure waterpark in Dubai

4. Arrive early

Aquaventure Atlantis is open daily from around 9 AM. Try to arrive at the park early, before it even opens (you also need some time to get to the entrance, etc.).

Even in the busy season, it’s rather quiet in the morning, which means that you won’t have to waste time in lines waiting to get in, pay for the locker, etc. But what’s most important is that you will be able to enjoy the best attractions without much wait.

Our experience: We recently visited Dubai in the high season, arrived at Aquaventure a bit before 10 AM, and could just walk in without any delay. Most of the attractions were very quiet at this time of the day and we could do a lot in the first hour – an hour and a half.

By noon, there were enormous queues at all the water slides. The same places where we had less than 5 minutes of wait time in the morning were now showing 30-45 minutes of waiting time. In the afternoon, most queues were over an hour long.

Good to know: Arriving early is not the only trick to avoid the crowds. Further below, you can find more tips. But first, some more practical information.

5. Pick up free water socks!

If you have been to water parks before, you probably already know that it’s best to wear water shoes . That way, you don’t have to worry about hurting your feet while walking, or burning them when pathways between get scorching hot in the midday sun. Since water shoes sit tight around your feet, you can simply wear them all the time, on all slides.

We normally pack our own water shoes for water parks, but if you are traveling light, you will be glad to know that Aquaventure provides water socks for FREE! They are not as sturdy as water shoes but do the job just fine and should last through the day. In the worst case, if they break, you can also ask for a new pair. Just don’t forget to dispose of them in the special container before you leave the park (or take them with you and reuse as long as they last).

Good to know: You can pick up a pair of water socks at any guest services counter inside the park. When we visited, they also had a big aqua socks kiosk in the middle of the main pathway towards the attractions – you really couldn’t miss them.

While you can simply wear sandals or flip-flops for walking around, we do not recommend them because you can’t keep them on at the attractions. At Aquaventure, they have some shelves where you can leave your shoes before going up to the slides. But if you do that, you’ll be barefoot half the time and will also have to come back to pick them up (walking on hot surfaces in the meantime).

6. Pack as little as possible & use a locker

When planning to spend a day at a water park, pack only what you really need.

Leave everything that you don’t absolutely need at your hotel (including jewelry, watches, etc.). Also, wear light clothes and shoes that take as little space as possible.

If you want to keep your belongings safe inside the park, you will have to use lockers . However, keep in mind that they are very expensive and quite small. A regular locker costs 60 AED (+-15 euros) and can hardly fit a small backpack. A bigger locker is 85 AED (+-22 euros).

You can rent a locker at any guest services counter inside the park. If you need a towel , you can rent a beach towel at the same time. Keep in mind that towels cost 35 AED (+-9 euros). We packed several small travel towels with us. You may also be able to borrow a towel from your hotel, but it might be difficult to prop it inside the locker, especially if the towels are big and you are sharing a locker with the whole family.

Good to know: Lockers are located at the entrance of either female or male bathrooms/changing rooms. But there are also ‘family lockers’ that might be easier to use, depending on your family situation.

TIP: There are lockers in several different areas of the Aquaventure waterpark. If you want to be able to quickly access your locker during the day, we recommend using the lockers that are located more centrally rather than the ones at the entrance. Atlas Village area (close to Poseidon Tower) is a good choice for that, right in the middle of the park.

This brings us to the next point – the park layout. See below for more info!

7. Familiarize yourself with the layout of the park (+Map)

Atlantis Aquaventure prides itself as the world’s largest waterpark and has an impressive number of more than a hundred rides, slides, and attractions. However, in reality, it’s not nearly as overwhelming as it sounds on paper.

If you are mostly interested in the best water slides and most exhilarating attractions , you can find them all in just 3 towers: Neptune Tower, Poseidon Tower, and Trident Tower. Each tower is a starting point of a series of rides, which often share the same staircase.

PRO TIP: Be sure to check height requirements for the attractions you want to do, especially if visiting Aquavanture with young kids. If your kids are 120 cm tall, then they are allowed pretty much everywhere. But if they are smaller than that, you’ll have fewer choices (still plenty, but much less thrilling rides which might limit what the rest of the family can do).

If you are wondering which rides and slides are ‘the best’, here are our teens’ favorites:

  • Neptune Tower: Leap of Faith (not for the faint-hearted though).
  • Poseidon Tower: Slitherine.
  • Trident Tower (the best tower, in our opinion): Odyssey of Terror, Medusa’s Lair, Vortex, Blackout (not for the faint-hearted either). The kids also loved ‘cliff jumping’ at Immortal Falls and went at least 10 times – there was very little to no wait here early in the day.

We found some other popular rides (especially at Neptune Tower and Poseidon Tower) ok, but not really worth the wait if longer than 10-15 minutes. Lazy River is also very nice, especially the not-so-lazy parts.

Below, is the map of Atlantis Aquaventure. As you can see, Neptune Tower is on the left and closest to the entrance, Poseidon Tower is in the middle of the park, and Trident Tower is all the way to the right, furthest from the entrance.

Map of Atlantis Aquaventure Waterpark in Dubai

In addition to all the thrilling rides, there are two main ‘splash areas’ where you can find slides and attractions for smaller kids (under 120 cm). Those are Splashers Island & Mountain close to the entrance and Splashers Lagoon & Cove close to Poseidon and Trident Towers.

Furthermore, there are several other areas that have nothing to do with water slides and similar. One of them is Atlas Village where you will find dolphin and sea lion experiences (to be booked in advance and at an extra cost). And then there is Aquaventure Beach , where you can simply relax on the beach as well as a watersports area where you can find activities like kayaking and paddle-boarding, but also wind surfing, flyboarding, etc. (all at an additional cost).

So depending on your interests and/or your kids’ age/height, you will likely spend most of your time in just a few of these areas. And out of 105 attractions, maybe you will only be interested in just 15 or 20…

Good to know: Since the park is large and rather spread out, the best way to experience what Aquaventure has to offer is by visiting one of the towers/areas at a time, doing whatever you want to do there, and then moving on to the next tower.

But there’s something else we wish we had known before our visit to Aquaventure – see below.

Splashers Lagoon & Cove at Atlantis Aquaventure Waterpark in Dubai

8. Start with the furthest towers & most thrilling attractions first

In addition to booking tickets in advance, avoiding weekends, and arriving early, this is the most important tip that I can give you if you want to make the most out of your visit to Atlantis Aquaventure – start with the attractions that are further away from the entrance first (ssh – don’t tell anyone!).

Most first-time visitors are so overwhelmed when they enter the park, that they have no idea where to start. So obviously, people start with the first things they come across – usually, Neptune Tower. We made the same mistake too, but luckily, quickly realized it and moved on as far away from the entrance as we could.

If you arrive very early, you could start at Poseidon Tower which only has four rides, and move on to Trident Tower later. If, however, Poseidon Tower is already getting busy, head straight to Trident Tower and make the best of your time there before the crowds reach that part of the park. We personally found that the attractions at Trident Tower were the best of all areas.

In addition, go to the attractions that use floats first . The queues at these rides get insane in the afternoon. My personal favorites – by far – were Odyssey of Terror and Medusa’s Lair, both at Trident Tower.

Good to know: While the distances at Aquaventure aren’t that big, you can also use their ‘express shuttles’ to get from one area to the other. We found that walking went faster than waiting for the shuttle, but if there’s a shuttle available, you can simply hop on.

9. Have more money than time? Upgrade to AquaExpress!

If you want to avoid a long wait at all the attractions altogether, you can upgrade to AquaExpress which gives you fast-track access everywhere.

However, keep in mind that it costs an additional 495 AED (+-135 USD) per person, making it a very expensive luxury, especially if you are visiting with a big family.

Good to know: If you decide to do this, you can simply pay for the upgrade upon arrival. So you get your regular tickets online in advance and then pay for AquaExpress at the park itself.

I want to add that at busy times, there were quite long queues at the AquaExpress line as well. In one case, we saw people queuing for over 15 minutes (which meant that the regular line was hardly moving at all). There are many rich people in the UAE who are prepared to pay for this upgrade, which kind of loses its purpose. But at busy times – and for most popular attractions – this might be the only way to enjoy them.

We found it better to simply arrive earlier, do the most popular rides in the morning, and then spend the afternoon at the quieter attractions, lazy river and similar, swimming in a pool, or relaxing at the beach, etc. But if you absolutely want to do every single ride at Aquaventure, paying for the AquaExpress is the only way to do ‘everything’ in a day.

Below, we have one more tip that might help you make the most of your time.

Vortex slide at Atlantis Aquaventure water park in Dubai

10. Eat late & plan any additional activities in the afternoon

As already mentioned, the busiest times at Atlantis Aquaventure are in the afternoon. It’s not really a big deal at the beach or splash areas, but the queues at the best rides can get crazy long. Most rides where we had almost no wait at all in the morning, were showing wait times of up to an hour by 1-2 PM.

So use the morning hours to the maximum by doing the most thrilling attractions first, without wasting your time on anything else.

If you can wait for lunch, postpone it as long as you can. If you want to do any dolphin- or sea lion experiences, book late afternoon time slots. Use your afternoon to relax and rewind!

Needless to say, if you booked a ticket that includes entry to Lost Chambers Aquarium, go there at the very end of the day, after you leave the water park.

11. Additional Tips for Atlantis Aquaventure in Dubai

Here are some additional tips and practical information that you may want to know before your visit:

  • Wear UV clothes and use plenty of sunscreen lotion . While the layout of Aquavanture is planned well, trying to maximize the use of shady areas, you cannot avoid being in the sun for hours. And we all know how hot it can get in Dubai! Without good sun protection, you risk getting a serious sunburn. Wear UV shirts/rash guards and use lots and lots of sunscreen lotion for any uncovered skin.
  • Bring a waterproof case for your phone. If you want to take some pictures during the day, bring a waterproof phone pouch . I had mine on all the rides and it was allowed almost everywhere. There were a few attractions where I think it could have been an issue (certain body slides and especially the ones where you slide on your belly like HydraRacer). But I didn’t do all of them so I’m not sure if it is forbidden on any body slides.
  • You can find free life jackets of all sizes close to Raging Rapids in the Trident Tower area. These jackets are required for this attraction, but I’m sure you could also ‘borrow’ one of them if e.g. your kids can’t swim yet and you didn’t think to bring arm floaties with you.

  • There is free WiFi available in Atlantis Aquaventure as well as Lost Chambers Aquarium.
  • You can use credit cards for all payments at Aquaventure Atlantis. If you visit the park several times, you could also install their app and link your credit card with the armband. But if you are only visiting Aquaventure for a day, simply take a credit card in your waterproof phone pouch. If you use your smartphone for payments, you should be able to pay with e.g. Apple Wallet and similar. If not sure, just ask the guest services staff when you pay for the locker.
  • You are not allowed to bring any food or drinks to the park (except for water and baby food). As with all theme parks, food prices at Aquaventure are really high. We paid over 80 euros for a very simple fast-food lunch for 3 people.

Attractions and Things to Do at Atlantis Paradise Island

There are 85 gaming tables, 21 restaurants, and 19 bars and lounges at Atlantis Paradise Island. However, while throwing down some cash on the craps tables or roulette wheel may satisfy some visitors, others—especially families—are drawn to the Atlantis' aquatic allure; specifically the resort's spectacular "lost world" themed water park, dolphin encounter program, beaches, and the underground mysteries of The Dig, a walk-through exploration of the Lost City of Atlantis. Day tickets for all of these activities can be purchased at Discover Atlantis Sales Centers located throughout the property.

Given the hordes of visitors to the Atlantis daily, it's not surprising that the resort limits access to some of these attractions—notably the Aquaventure pool and water park area—to preserve a premier experience for hotel guests. However, that does not mean that day-trippers can't visit the Atlantis attractions, including Aquaventure; you'll have to pay a bit for the privilege (and expect a significant markup on these prices if you buy through a cruise line).

  • Dolphin Cay at Atlantis: Day visitors can swim and play with Atlantic bottlenose dolphins at the state-of-the-art, 14-acre habitat.
  • Discover Atlantis Tour: This tour is best known to day-trippers, in part because it is sold as an excursion on cruise ships. Expert "Navigators" guide visitors through the ancient city streets of Atlantis during a visit to "The Dig," a faux-but-believable archaeological exploration of an 11,000-year-old lost continent. The attraction is full of interesting artifacts, along with great water effects and glimpses of exotic sea life, including piranha, moon jellyfish, venomous lionfish, and a resident manta ray. A Discover Atlantis Tour wristband allows visitors to explore The Dig and its exhibits as well as the Ruins, Predator, and Water’s Edge Lagoons—but not the waterpark.
  • Atlantis Beach Day: The Atlantis Beach Day program provides all-day access to the Atlantis resort's exclusive white sandy beaches, with lounge chairs and towels provided. It also includes access to marine habitats and lunch at an outside venue.
  • Atlantis Aquaventure Package : Day-trippers can purchase an Atlantis Aquaventure package that provides all-day access to pools, beaches, and Aquaventure, a 141-acre waterscape containing over 20 million gallons of water with water slides, and a mile-long river ride with high-intensity rapids and wave surges. The passes are only available to guests staying at partners of the Atlantis Resort. They can be purchased (on a restricted basis) at the Atlantis Adventures Desk at the clock tower in front of The Coral.

How to Get There

Paradise Island (formerly Hog Island) is a 685-acre island off the northern coast of Nassau, the capital of the island of New Providence. There is no public transport to take you to Paradise Island—the local bus system, the "jitney," will only take you as far as the ferry terminal, so your best bet is either to take a ferry or a taxi.

To access Paradise Island by water, hop aboard a 15-minute ferry ride from Nassau to Paradise Island. The ferry departs from Nassau Cruise Port from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and costs $3 for a one-way ticket. On your boat ride to Paradise Island, a guide will also give you a brief history lesson of the island and its many attractions. Once you've arrived on Paradise Island, it's a 10-minute walk from the ferry dock to Marina Village in Atlantis.

If you decide to rent a car, note that there is limited free parking available on Paradise Island (and limited spots are found near the public beach). The best alternative is to valet your vehicle at the cost of $16.75 per day. Whether you're driving or opting for a taxi, be prepared to pay the northbound one-way $1 bridge toll. In taxis, this will be on top of your metered fare—and the average cost for a one-way trip from Lynden Pindling International Airport to Paradise Island is about $35. Another alternative is to be dropped off along the coast of New Providence to walk across the bridge (an activity that is toll-free). Once you've arrived on the island, there's no need to rent a car, as visitors can easily walk the grounds and explore everything the hotel has to offer on foot.

Day passes are mandatory for all non-hotel guests at the Atlantis to experience Dolphin Cay, the waterpark, the marine habitat, and the beaches. The passes can be purchased (on a restricted basis) at the Atlantis Adventures desk, situated at the clock tower at The Coral. These passes have been known to sell out, so it's imperative to book online in advance. World Travel Holdings also sells day passes to Aquaventure, Atlantis Dolphin Cay, and the iconic British Colonial Hilton. These passes are marketed primarily to cruise visitors but can be an excellent add-on for anyone visiting Nassau.

  • The Aquaventure pass includes admission to Aquaventure and The Dig, lounge chairs, and towels.
  • Dolphin Cay experiences include a shallow-water interaction with dolphins.
  • The British Colonial Hilton pass includes all-day access to the resort's pristine private beach and pool, snorkeling and kayaking, lounge chairs and towels, and a food and beverage credit.

Tips for Visitors

  • There's more to Paradise Island than just the Atlantis, so be sure to explore the rest of the island. We suggest hiking to the Nassau lighthouse for gorgeous seaside views along the coast. Of all the waterpark attractions, the underwater shark walk is not to be missed—imagine a turquoise tunnel full of predators. (It's as scary and thrilling as it sounds).
  • There is no visitor information center in Paradise Island, so make sure to consult downtown the tourist information available for visitors in downtown Nassau.
  • If you're planning on staying for dinnertime, make a reservation in advance, as restaurants can become busy, especially in the colder months. Additionally, the resort will limit attractions during the peak busy season to preserve hotel guests' experience—a hindrance that won't be an issue for you if you're visiting during the off-season. If you're visiting in the off-season (summer and fall), expect fewer crowds—for the waterslides and the bars and restaurants, alike.
  • If you're taking the ferry to Paradise Island, remember to bring cash. Although exact change isn't necessary, it's helpful as you will be expected to tip your tour guides, who provide colorful commentary and historical insight into the past and present-day iterations of Nassau and Paradise Island.

24 Best Things to Do in Dubai

From exploring traditional souks to skiing indoors, here's how to get to this know this dazzling city.

In Dubai , it's possible to chill on the beach, stroll in the desert, and have a cocktail at the top of skyscraper all in the same day. “Dubai’s got a glorious magnetism to it," says Nada Badran, a Dubai resident for more than 30 years and experience curator and tour guide with Wander With Nada . "There’s so much palpable energy in the air, and every day the city offers a new opportunity for creative fulfillment."

Despite the above, Dubai is sometimes shrouded by misconceptions, says Isabella Sullivan, founder and editor of Near+Far , a travel magazine for modern Middle East travelers. “The first misconception is that it’s all glossy, fake, and superficial, which couldn’t be further from the truth," she told Travel + Leisure . Another misconception is that it’s not a safe place to visit. On the contrary, Dean Hayter, travel product manager at Origin , says that “living in Dubai is the safest I have ever felt in any city."

So if any of the above has kept you from booking a trip to this vibrant city, you can set your mind at ease. And once you've arrived, here are the best things to do in Dubai.

Learn about local coffee culture.

The Arab world is known for its coffee — from traditional Turkish coffee to modern delights like cereal lattes — and Dubai has myriad cafes in which to get your daily fix. “[There are] so many cool, unique, artsy, and design-led coffee shops," says Sullivan. "Some have beautiful gardens and outdoor spaces, while a new slew of them have moody interiors and unique, immersive themes." Sullivan’s favorites are The Grey , Nightjar Coffee and Tom&Serg .

Cruise Dubai Creek.

In the past, Dubai Creek was part of the trade route connecting ports in the Arabian Gulf. Today, it's a beautiful way to see the city , and one of Hayter's top suggestions in Dubai. “Go to Dubai Creek before sunset and hire an abra (traditional wooden boat) for a private cruise," Hayter says. "When you're in the middle of the creek and the sky turns pink and the call to prayer fills the sky, it is magical.”

Go stargazing in the desert.

Fascinated by the night sky? Book a night safari with ecotourism company Platinum Heritage , which includes guidance from an astronomer and use of a telescope. “The sky is so dark that you get to see the most incredible blanket of stars," says Hayter. "If you're with an astronomer who can explain everything you're looking at, it's an amazing experience."

Play a round of golf.

Golf may not come to mind immediately when planning a vacation to the Middle East, but Dubai has several recognizable courses, including The Emirates Golf Club – Majlis Course , which is considered one of the best in the destination. Kelvin Cheung, chef partner at Jun’s and a Dubai resident for two years, suggests checking to see if any of your credit cards include free rounds of golf as a perk. Note that the best time to golf here is between November and March, when the weather is more comfortable.

Relax at a Dubai beach.

“Dubai has some great and uncrowded public beaches, where you can just enjoy the warm Arabian sea and sunshine at no cost,” says Sullivan. Try Kite Beach, since it also offers fantastic showers and bathrooms, plus a handful of food stands and coffee shops. For an extra treat, rent a Careem bike and cruise along Kite Beach’s lengthy boardwalk.

Enjoy the diverse dining scene.

Between the innovative design of its restaurants and the exceptional diversity of its culinary offerings, Dubai is a fantastic place for foodies. When planning your meals, consider chic restaurants like Amazonico , which takes you on a sensory journey through the Amazon; SEVA , a laid back, plant-based cafe within a wellness center; and Jun’s , a fusion restaurant with the Burj Khalifa skyscraper as its backdrop and where the chef aims to introduce himself to each table. “The city offers a wide range of flavors and textures, and truly pushes boundaries," says chef Cheung of Jun's. "Because the Dubai food scene offers top-quality food and service in every corner of the city, my team and I stay motivated to deliver excellence with every experience. There are very few places in the world that cater to such a diverse set of people.”

Indulge in the facilities of a luxe hotel.

Visiting a world-class hotel in Dubai and enjoying its wellness offerings is a must. “Dubai has so many gorgeous hotels, and more often than not, you can purchase day passes to enjoy their facilities, including beaches, pools, and spas; some also have tennis and padel courts,” says Sullivan. "Apps like Privlee and Viya are great for tourists and residents; you pay a fee and have unlimited access to partner hotels, beach clubs, and gym facilities, so you can try somewhere new every day.”

Get lost in the streets of Old Dubai.

“I am probably at my happiest when wandering in Old Dubai’s streets, sikkas (alleys), and souks , which are swarming with activity," says Badran of Wander With Nada. "The labyrinthine souks are where everyone wants to sell you something; ‘Shakira’ and ‘professor’ are heard countless times, as vendors appear to have unanimously agreed it's the best way to capture customers’ attention. People duck into beckoning small shops where stools are commonplace, as is a cup of chai, and every transaction involves a lengthy bargaining debate. Sounds of carts mingle with scents of aromatic spices and musky perfume."

Explore Al Serkal Avenue.

Al Serkal Avenue is an industrial warehouse district that has been transformed into a creative hub. “It’s an oasis of art, community spaces, and all things quirky," says Badran. "To visit is to be transported to another world of art galleries, cozy cafes, boutique shops, and plenty more." The venue's galleries are open to the public at no cost, and it's fun to wander here even if you’re not an art buff.

Go on a desert adventure.

Tour through the desert in a 4x4, or go extreme off-roading in a dune buggy or on a quad bike with Expert Rangers . And if you want the full Arabian desert experience, book the package that includes sandboarding, camel riding, an Arab dinner, and entertainment.

Get the best view of Dubai.

If you're a thrill seeker, consider a dive with Skydive Dubai . Divers fall 13,000 feet through the sky over the Palm Jumeriah — what a memory to take home with you.

Book a traditional spa treatment.

A hammam is a traditional cleansing ritual that involves hot steam, a revitalizing scrub, rhassoul clay, and vitamin-E rich products — you are bound to exit this experience feeling the softest you’ve ever felt. We recommend booking a hammam treatment at the Guerlain Spa at the One&Only The Palm.

Head to Hatta.

Hatta is in the Hajar Mountains, about 60 miles outside of Dubai. This is the perfect place to appreciate nature — go for a hike with spectacular views, kayak in the reservoir, or mountain bike on designated trails. There's also a heritage village that’s home to restored traditional houses and a defense tower.

Scuba dive in a pool.

Deep Dive Dubai isn’t your typical swimming pool — it’s the deepest in the world at about 197 feet deep. Scuba, freediving, and snorkel courses are offered here, and if you're already certified, you're welcome to explore this underwater world designed to look like a sunken city.

Visit the Museum of the Future.

This building is an architectural wonder in shape and design. The exterior is wrapped in Arabic poetry, and the structure's circular shape represents humanity while the abyss in the middle signifies the indefinite future. Inside you will find immersive exhibitions that ask observers to reflect on the world, the future, and themselves. Purchase tickets in advance, as the museum is a popular attraction and day-of tickets aren't always available.

Visit Expo City Dubai.

This venue is a future-forward miniature city that maintains much of what was offered during the World Expo (Expo City was part of the exhibitions, which took place in 2022, delayed due to the pandemic). The sustainable city offers educational experiences and attractions that revolve around global topics, plus multiple playgrounds and parks .

Spend a day at Dubai’s newest resort.

Beyonce performed an exclusive show for the opening ceremony of Atlantis The Royal — what a way to get the world's attention. This ultra-luxurious resort is worth checking out, even if you aren’t staying the night. It’s home to eight restaurants helmed by celebrity chefs (including Nobu by the Beach), a sky-high infinity pool, a club with panoramic views of the skyline, and dozens of other experiences.

Book a tour with Wander with Nada.

Nada of Wander With Nada is a fun and peppy guide, sure, but she's also incredibly knowledgeable about Dubai, and therefore just the guide you want to get to know the destination. Choose from several tour options, including one that highlights Dubai landmarks and another that focuses on Old Dubai.

Party at a beach club.

Beach clubs in Dubai are worth the hype, with Twiggy by La Cantine and Nammos being two of our favorites. Rent a cabana or beach chair and spend the entire day (or just a few hours) soaking in the sun with a drink in hand, listening to vibey beats.

Shop in Dubai Gold Souk.

The streets may as well be paved with gold in Dubai's Gold Souk , a fascinating marketplace with nearly 400 vendors. You will see gold of all karats and styles, from simple to elaborate. Note that if you do plan to purchase something special, don’t be shy about negotiating for a better price, as that is custom here.

Shop in a Dubai mall.

Dubai has no shortage of malls, where you'll find just about every brand you can name. Visit Dubai Mall to see one of the largest malls in the world (it's also home to the Dubai Aquarium); the textile souk for traditional shopping; or the Dubai Design District (D3), which is home to pop-up fashion boutiques and rotating art installations.

Go skiing indoors.

If you can dream it, Dubai can execute it, and Ski Dubai is proof. Want to ski indoors then step outside into warm weather? This is the place. Maintaining freezing temperatures all year long, this ski resort provides guests with ski suits to keep them cozy. Lessons are available, and there's even a chair lift — and penguins — inside.

Order a tailor-made outfit.

If there’s one thing foreigners may not know about the Middle East, it’s that the tailors are amazing, and that most locals have everything from simple, everyday outfits to wedding gowns tailor-made for them. A trip to Dubai is therefore an opportunity to have your dream design brought to life. Visit the textile souk for fabric, get measured by a tailor, and voila, you’ll have a new outfit within days. Getting fit for traditional dishdasha (for men) or abaya (for women) is a nice way to bring a bit of Dubai home, too.

Ride the Dubai Metro.

The Dubai Metro is an extensive and well-maintained public transportation system that connects major locations in Dubai at an affordable price. Residents typically use these trains for their daily commute, so hop on a train to feel like a local.
