New Kent’s Board of Supervisors voted 5-0 on Sept. 19 to allow the Journey Christian Fellowship to rezone its land from residential to business use. The Ark in Quinton will include four baseball/softball fields, a soccer field, a playground and concession stand.

“The Ark Complex will be a complete gospel learning experience with interactive gospel learning stations that will teach the Bible from Genesis to the Cross,” Journey states on its website, arkcomplex.org . “Little league sports bring healthy and broken families alike together in support of the next generation and their growth.”

Journey Christian received a violation notice for its signs in April because they are incompatible with residential property.

Principal Planner Kelli Le Duc said the church sought to rezone 21 acres of land off new Kent Highway, the location of the Journey Christian Fellowship Church and sports park.

“The property has an existing approved site plan and is under development,” Le Duc said.

The New Kent Planning Commission forwarded a favorable recommendation to the Board of Supervisors in August. The church acquired the property in 2018 and has invested about $7 million in the site.

During a public hearing, Anders Blix of New Kent Highway read a letter from schools Superintendent Brian Nichols in support of the change. Nichols praised the “collaboration between Journey and New Kent Schools.”

“The Journey Church and Quinton Elementary Schools have been neighbors during construction for two years,” he wrote. “The partnership and joint efforts exhibited by both entities have positively impacted our community, demonstrating an exceptional commitment to the betterment of our society.”

Eileen Blix, a member of the church, said she sees an “opportunity to give back to the community that has given so much to me and my family.”

Supervisor Ron Stier said he was asked to help by the church after it received a violation notice in the spring over the signs.

“The rezoning has nothing to do with any of the activities at the building. It only affects the signs,” Stiers said.

Meet Our Pastors

Our Pastors love Jesus and love people. Passionate and welcoming are just a few words to describe them. Ramon and Lindsay married in 2007 and are the proud parents of Rai, Sasha and Caleb. Their family motto is "What we do we do together" sports, music, cooking and outdoor adventures are family favorites!

Pastor Ramon preached his first sermon at the age of 12. He began serving in the Lords church at the age of 19 and ordained that same year. He first served as a Youth Pastor where he lead a dynamic ministry called Chainbreakers. Seeing the lives of teenagers and young adults transformed by God's word, his passion to study, teach and love people like Jesus grew. Later on, he became a senior associate Pastor leading the Christian Education ministry.

In 2016 Pastor Ramon and Lindsay became the lead Pastors of Journey Church Seattle! Pastor Ramon's teaching of God's word is known for its relevance to culture while being grounded firmly in scripture. Practical and applicable to everyday life describe Pastor Ramon's contributions to today's listeners. He often says "A message without application is just a massage". Their heart is for Journey Church to grow through God's word and grow together!

No Cost Tax Prep

Would you rather pay $200 for a service or get that same service for $0?! Journey Church is hosting a volunteer income tax prep site this tax season. And, volunteer means ...$0! You won't pay anything to have your taxes prepared by IRS-certified volunteers, if you qualify.

As a partner with the Kent County Tax Credit Coalition, our goal will be to help each tax filer to maximize his/her tax credits - and keep as much money in your pocket as possible!

Our site is a walk-in site.That means it's first come, first served. Plan to be there and tell others about it as well!

The journey is a real church in newark for real people – which means it’s for you. you’ll find people young and old worshipping and learning at your local newark church. when you walk onto our location, you can expect huge smiles, because we’re glad you’re here. after you arrive, you’ll head into our auditorium, where we’ll start the gathering with passionate worship and then an encouraging, life-giving message you can relate to. our gatherings typically last around 65 minutes., 4 pm | 5:30 pm, 9 am | 10:30 am | 12pm.
