The Big Deal announce Debut Album

R. Hartung

Frontiers Music Srl is thrilled to announce the upcoming release of the debut album from an extremely talented melodic hard rock band from Serbia, The Big Deal. Their debut album, “First Bite” will be released on May 13, 2022. Today, the band has released a new single and video from the album, ‘Sensational’. “First Bite” is an absolute tour de force showcasing the outstanding talents of the individual members over the course of 11 tracks of infectious, hooky, memorable songs.

Pre-order/save “FIRST BITE”  HERE

The Big Deal, featuring two outstanding vocalists, Ana Nikolic and Nevena Brankovic (who is also a highly skilled keyboard/piano player), offers up a catchy, driving sound that will appeal to a wide swath of rock and metal fans from lovers of melodic rock and hard rock to symphonic and power metal fans. Guitarist Srdjan Brankovic, the band’s producer and main songwriter, may be recognized by some fans from his work with progressive metallers Alogia, of whom drummer Marko Milojevic is also a member.

The Big Deal first came together when guitarist, composer, and producer Srdjan and keyboardist Nevena, who is an academic pianist and singer, started working with singer Ana Nikolic. Ana had spent the past few years fronting local bands, but after meeting Srdjan and Nevena, they started collaborating in the studio together on some songs. While working on some new ideas, Srdjan thought it would be interesting to include Ana’s vocals in addition to Nevena’s in the recordings they were working on. After a couple of songs were finished, they were overjoyed with the results and thus some of The Big Deal’s first demos were born. These would eventually morph into the music that was presented to Frontiers and ultimately got them signed. To round out the lineup, the band brought in drummer Marko Milojevic and later, Alessandro Del Vecchio (Hardline, Revolution Saints) on bass (who was instrumental in introducing the band to the label).

Both Srdjan and Marko are members of the most successful Serbian progressive metal band, Alogia. Throughout his career, Srdjan has played on many festivals and tours, recorded and collaborated on countless studio and live albums, and opened for some well-known bands such as Whitesnake, Ian Paice, Apocalyptica, Savatage, and more. He was also a member of Michael Matijevic’s live band in Bulgaria. On his “Expedition Delta” and “Alogia” albums, he collaborated with names such as Tim ‘Ripper’ Owens, Mark Boals, Erik Norlander, Gary Wehrkamp, Fabio Lione, and Hansi Kursch, among others.

What's the Big Deal?

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour

An overview of taylor swift's most epic tour yet.

the big deal tour

From Country Taylor, Fearless Taylor, Speak Now Taylor, Reputation Taylor, Lover Taylor, and now Midnights Taylor, Taylor Swift has come a long way. If you have known about Taylor Swift for a while like I have, you may have witnessed her evolution over the past decade.

This multitalented singer-songwriter has certainly made her mark as one of the biggest pop icons of our generation. Her current Eras Tour has just cemented that status.

Events International - Taylor Swift

The Eras Tour has been the talk of the year. Rolling Stone magazine describes it as “Taylor Swift’s Greatest Live Triumph Yet”; a bold claim considering she has already won 12 Grammy Awards.

On October 13, 2023, the movie capturing Taylor Swift's Eras Tour premiered, achieving a whopping global box office opening of $123.5 million. Swift joins the ranks of renowned musicians such as Coldplay , Iron Maiden , Justin Bieber , and Madonna , whose live tours have been successfully translated to the big screen. The documentary offers fans the opportunity to relish Swift's performances of 40 songs over nearly three hours, all at a significantly reduced cost compared to attending her live concerts. Surpassing the $200 million milestone in global box office revenue, it is evident that there is something truly extraordinary about this tour.

Financially speaking, the Eras Tour is a bonafide success.

The Eras Tour began in March of this year and is set to end on December 8, 2024, in Vancouver. The New York Times wrote that it has been estimated that by the end of the tour, Taylor Swift’s sales would have reached $2.2 billion in just North America! With over 70,000 people attending each show, the Eras tour has generated so much money that it has even helped boost local US economies . As of October 2023, Taylor Swift officially achieved billionaire status, largely attributed to the resounding success of the U.S. leg of her tour. But Swift is not just making big bucks on this tour, she is also garnering praise for her generosity to her crew (she gave them $100,000 bonuses !) The Eras Tour stands not only as a financial triumph but also as a testament to Swift's commitment to both her craft and the well-being of those behind the scenes.

47 Celebs Spotted at Taylor Swift's Final L.A. Show of 'Eras Tour,' Including Who Was in the VIP Tent & Who Had Regular Seats | Abigail Heringer, Adam Sandler, Alex Pall, Amanda

Within the tour is a culture of its own.

This culture is deeply shaped by digital influence. A brief search of the Eras tour on platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube unveils a plethora of content. Fans of all ages share 'Get Ready With Me' videos, narrate 'storytimes' about their experiences at her shows, and provide (often) insightful commentaries on the tour. Additionally, there are fan-made videos and edits featuring Taylor's on-stage performances, highlighting the distinctive stage effects for each song, uncovering Easter eggs dropped by Taylor, and, inevitably, showcasing the emergence of hilarious memes .

Numerous videos and articles capture various rituals closely associated with her tour, such as fans engaging in the almost iconic practice of exchanging friendship bracelets. These rituals foster a unique intimacy within her dedicated fan community, affectionately known as Swifties. Before, during, and after the concert, Swifties actively trade these homemade, Taylor-inspired beaded friendship bracelets, creating a shared and cherished experience they can then document on their social media.

Make the Friendship Bracelets for Taylor Swift's Eras Tour

The Eras Tour is pervaded by significant celebrity culture, amplifying its popularity and garnering increased publicity. Among Swifties, it's common knowledge that Taylor Swift has been associated with a famous social circle since the 2010s. Her once-famous “ Squad ” gained immense popularity, with fans eagerly anticipating pictures from her renowned 4th of July parties. So, it's unsurprising that numerous celebrities , and even their famous acquaintances, are frequently spotted attending her concerts. This celebrity presence not only attracts Swift enthusiasts but also draws individuals who may not be avid fans of Swift but are keen on seeing other celebrities in attendance. The prospect of encountering their favourite stars, and perhaps sharing a moment like exchanging bracelets , serves as an additional incentive for attendance.

Whether you love her or hate her, the fact is Taylor Swift has definitely made a tremendous impact on our generation.

The Eras Tour, hailed by the Recording Academy as "the epitome of Swift's generation" and acclaimed by The Guardian as the "foremost cultural phenomenon" of 2023, undeniably signifies a monumental cultural shift, highlighting Taylor Swift's ascent to a sensational level of success.

Few pop stars have lasted as long as she has in the music industry. Even fewer continue to increase in popularity and ‘relevance’ as she has. Will she be able to keep it up? That’s a question only she can truly determine is worth answering. But there is certainly merit to the popularity of her tour and the iconic impact she has had on the music scene.

The Big Deal – ‘First Bite’ Album Review

Frontiers records - 13th may 2022.

15 April 2022 Rob Jones

the big deal tour

In comparison to the melodic rock bands that I’m familiar with The Big Deal are a different brew, for one thing they have two female vocalists: Ana Nikolic and Nevena Brankovic who also plays keyboards and piano in the band. This band stands out as different to me because of the styles they fuse, The Big Deal remind me of a hybrid of H.E.A.T, Tokyo Motor Fist, ABBA, and Anette Olzon era Nightwish. They first introduced themselves to the world with a couple of those comparisons doing excellent covers on YouTube of Nightwish and ABBA, In addition to a great Europe cover.

First Bite starts out with a straight up energetic melodic rocker, first single “Never Say Never” is a fantastic hard rocking song I’ve listened to a ton since I first saw the music video, the interplay of awesome guitar playing and synths is mesmerizing and the song ends with beautiful piano playing courtesy of Nevena who is the album’s secret weapon in my opinion, Her Keyboard and piano playing is a real highlight of this album.

“I need you here tonight” leans a little more into their symphonic metal influence and features some great driving guitars, atmospheric synths, and soaring vocals around the chorus. “Sensational” is another single from the album which really encompasses the varied different influences in their sound and fuses them perfectly,  Ana and Nevena vocally compliment each other perfectly and shine when each is singing solo. for those wondering who is vocally who: Ana sings in the slightly lower register and Nevena sings slightly higher. the classical piano style playing over the guitars just dances through the song and it’s mesmerizing, this song is pure ear candy.

“Top Heaven”  is a straight ahead rocker that falls somewhere between H.E.A.T and Danger Danger, had this song been released in the 80s it probably would’ve ended up on a soundtrack, it’s energetic and exciting. “Wake the fire” slows the tempo a bit but the melody and vocals balance very well. “In the dead of the night” maintains the pace with another mid tempo, semi- symphonic metal meets hard rock song with an excellent guitar solo. “Rebel Lady” reminds me a of Tokyo Motor Fist, good mid tempo 80s style melodic rock. “Power on” goes into Iron Maiden territory, this song just charges at you and rocks!

Digging deeper “Bad times, Good times” is another mid tempo song and is elevated by great vocals from both Ana and Nevena, the melodies in this song are excellent as well. “Fallen” is kind of musically all over the place to be honest,  but has great vocals throughout, a great chorus, and a great guitar solo. “Lady of the night” leans back into H.E.A.T territory and has some cool Spanish guitar playing in the middle of the song.

The level of talent in this band is impressive and First Bite is a great debut album, there is melody for days. Ana and Nevena are a fantastic vocal duo and with the calibur of musical performances that the band provides on First Bite you really have to have good singing or it would sink the album. Srdjan Brankovic is an impressive guitarist who excels in both his rhythm and lead playing, and Nevena’s keys really add some extra sophistication to this album. This is a great start for a talented band, I’m excited to see how their sound progresses in the years to come.

So, what is the big deal with Taylor Swift? Here’s why there’s no one else like her

  • Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below

It’s been a week now since Taylor Swift swooped into town for a pair of shows at U.S. Bank Stadium that drew about 128,000 fans and all but dominated local media for days.

And yet, still, I hear people who dismiss her. She’s just for teen girls. She’s not talented. She’s a fraud. And so on.

I’ve been writing professionally about music for 28 years now and I’ve covered teen pop concerts since the days of ‘N Sync. I’ve seen it all, including that time when I went to a Kidz Bop concert alone and endured icy stares the entire show. But I’ve never seen anything like the 33-year-old Taylor Swift.

For those still unconvinced, hear me out.

She’s a talented songwriter

Swift learned to play the guitar when she was 12 and, soon after, began writing her own songs, inspired by the likes of Shania Twain and Dolly Parton. She convinced her parents to move to Nashville, where she worked with experienced songwriters to hone her craft, including Liz Rose, who once described the pair’s after-school writing sessions as “some of the easiest I’ve ever done. Basically, I was just her editor. She’d write about what happened in school that day. She had such a clear vision of what she was trying to say. And she’d come in with the most incredible hooks.”

From the start, Swift wrote about her life and her passions in a way that connected with her peers like few other musicians. She also wasn’t afraid to evolve. After issuing three multi-platinum albums and 17 hit singles in the country genre, Swift began exploring other sounds with 2012’s “Red,” which in turn expanded her audience and helped turn her into a worldwide star.

It seemed like she might have peaked after 2019’s somewhat tepid “Lover,” but she surprised everyone by taking a pandemic-inspired turn into indie-folk with her 2020 albums “Folklore” and “Evermore,” and worked with unlikely collaborators like the National’s Aaron Dessner and Justin “Bon Iver” Vernon. She has a reputation for using her romantic relationships as song fodder, but in 2020 she looked outside her own life for lyrical inspiration.

While she does the majority of her writing with partners, she wrote her third album, 2010’s “Speak Now,” entirely on her own. Her “(Taylor’s Version)” take on the record is due out Friday. (More on her re-recordings in a bit.)

She knows what it’s like to be a fan

Swift’s debut single, 2006’s “Tim McGraw,” was inspired by her love of a Tim McGraw song. She knows what it’s like to be the one staring up at the stage.

As such, Swift has constructed an entire ecosystem beyond her songs for those who want to go deeper. She fills her lyrics, videos, photo shoots and album sleeves with Easter eggs and clues to both future and past events in her life. Some fans spend hours to decoding it all and that’s part of the fun. Numerous publications regularly sum it all up for the rest of us.

While she’s very controlling about which details she lets the public know about her personal life, the devoted still know a whole lot more than you would think, including the names and bios of many people she works with, like her longtime publicist Tree Paine. Fans know to keep their eye out for potential sightings of Swift’s mother at her concerts.

A casual listener can listen to her music on streaming services. But Swift also offers her music in numerous physical formats with limited-edition runs, alternate covers and colored vinyl. Each new album, or as she puts it “era,” is also accompanied by a staggering amount of merchandise, from shirts and hoodies to totes and beach towels. Merch sales opened outside U.S. Bank Stadium the afternoon prior to her first show there and some people waited hours just to be among the first to have a shot at buying. She is good at capitalism!

She wants to control her own music

In 2019, music executive Scooter Braun purchased Swift’s first label, Big Machine Records, which included all masters, music videos and artwork for Swift’s first six albums. Enraged that Braun, a man she has called an “incessant, manipulative bully,” now controlled so much of her catalog, she vowed to re-record and reissue those records.

In the earlier years of rock and roll, it wasn’t uncommon for artists, particularly Black artists, to re-record key hits after getting shafted by their record label. More recently, groups like ELO and Blondie did the same in hopes their new versions would be the ones used for licensing in films, TV and commercials.

But no one has done what Swift is in the midst of doing right now. (Prince threatened to do so around the turn of the century, but only ever got around to releasing a re-recorded version of his single “1999.”) In 2021, she released not one, but two new re-recordings of “Fearless” and “Red” and put them out with the newly added “(Taylor’s Version)” label. Next up is the aforementioned “Speak Now.” Many fans have predicted her synth-pop smash “1989” will be the next one she releases.

She’s a hard worker

From the start of her career, Swift did everything it took to get her music heard. She toured heavily and personally met with country radio programming staffers at each tour stop. And each tour has grown bigger and more elaborate than the last, leading right up to her current outing, which sees her perform for more than three hours each night. That’s relatively rare for arena and stadium acts and essentially unheard of for pop stars.

Speaking of her current tour, Swift does have a live band and dancers, but she spends much of the show alone on one of three massive stages and manages to hold the attention of the entire crowd in the palm of her hand. When all is said and done, she will have played 117 shows on five continents.

In the early days of her career, Swift was sometimes criticized for her thin voice, particularly during live performances and duets at award shows. So she doubled-down and worked harder, rehearsed more and built her voice into the strong instrument that was on full display at her USBS shows.

The night I saw her, she told the crowd she started writing songs two days into COVID lockdown and has since issued more than 50 new songs across three albums. One gets the sense this is a woman who can’t not work.

All of that has paid off for Swift, who is well known for her philanthropy and support for disaster relief, medical research and the arts. Pollstar is estimating the gross for her current tour could reach “an astonishing, unbelievable, inconceivable $1.4 billion.” Forbes predicts her net worth is likely to hit around $900 million next year.

Next up for Taylor Swift — the Billionaire Era.

THE BIG DEAL Release Debut Single and Music Video “Never Say Never”

the big deal tour

Frontiers Music Srl presents the debut single of original material from Serbian hard rockers, The Big Deal. “ Never Say Never ” is now available on all music streaming platforms here, and the music video can be seen below.

The Big Deal , featuring two outstanding vocalists, Ana Nikolic and Nevena Brankovic (who is also a highly skilled keyboard/piano player), offers up a catchy, driving sound that will appeal to both melodic rock and hard rock fans.

“ Never Say Never ” serves as an appetizer for the band’s upcoming debut album, composed by the team of guitarist Srdjan and keyboardist Nevena, which will be released this spring. Stay tuned for more news on that soon.

While working on some new ideas, Srdjan thought it would be interesting to include Ana ‘s vocals in addition to Nevena ‘s in the recordings they were working on. After a couple of songs were finished, they were overjoyed with the results and thus some of The Big Deal ‘s first demos were born.

He was also a member of Michael Matijevic’ s live band in Bulgaria. On his “ Expedition Delta ” and “Alogia” albums, he collaborated with names such as Tim ‘Ripper’ Owens, Mark Boals, Erik Norlander, Gary Wehrkamp, Fabio Lione, and Hansi Kursch , among others.

The Breeders' Kim Deal Says It’s 'a Big Deal' Olivia Rodrigo Tapped Her '90s Alt-Rock Band for the Guts Tour (Exclusive)

The iconic '90s group will play four nights of the pop-rock superstar's tour as it comes to New York City's Madison Square Garden on April 5, 6, 8 and 9

Olivia Rodrigo once said that she thinks of her life before hearing “Cannonball” by The Breeders and after.

Flash forward to 2024 when the pop-rock star, 21, is out on her first-ever arena tour in support of her sophomore album GUTS — and now the ‘90s alt-rock group fronted by Kim Deal is joining her for four sold-out shows at New York City’s Madison Square Garden on April 5, 6, 8 and 9.

One can imagine that it’s exciting for the three-time Grammy winner to be playing alongside one of her favorite bands — but as for Deal herself, she’s simply in disbelief that it’s happening at all.

“We’re just from Dayton, Ohio!” jokes Deal, 62, of herself and her bandmates. “We’re really excited. It’s a big deal.”

The Breeders frontwoman explains that it was sometime last fall that the band’s management team revealed that the “vampire” singer wanted them to join her at MSG. “I was just like, ‘ What ?’ It was odd!” she recalls.

“Then she began doing more stuff for this album, and you find out she knows Annie Clark [of St. Vincent ] and she listens to all sorts of different music from Billy Joel to Sheryl Crow and it's like, ‘Oh, she's just really into music,’” Deal continued. “Knowing that, it made more sense. She just really liked us!”

While notes of the Last Splash band’s alternative sound is all over GUTS , Deal is also known for being a source of inspiration to young women in rock. After all, she launched the group (also featuring her twin sister Kelley, Josephine Wiggs and Jim Macpherson) as a creative outlet when she felt underused as the bassist in her former band The Pixies.

Still — despite being an indie music legend who was hand-picked to open for Nirvana in 1992 — the rocker admits the scale of Rodrigo’s live show and MSG has been a bit intimidating as she and the band rehearsed for the upcoming shows.

“I have played Madison Square Garden before. It was in 1992 [with The Pixies] and we opened for U2 on the Zoo TV Tour,” the singer/guitarist reflects. “I don’t remember it. I remember the shows that weren't good — those burn into my mind — and it must've been a good show since I can't remember.”

Kevin Westenberg

While The Breeders joined Foo Fighters out on the road last year where they largely played outdoor amphitheaters, MSG’s capacity of nearly 20,000 and the “get him back!” singer’s production feel “huge” to her. “I told my friend, ‘I just don't know how to get that big,’” Deal says. “He goes, ‘Act like you're yelling at a cop!’ Like, I don't think so. No. He goes, ‘I know! You're Mel Gibson in Braveheart , just stand there and yell, ‘Freedom!’’ and then you'll be that big.”

While Deal says that she also became somewhat concerned about how the younger contingent of Rodrigo’s audience might react to their “loud guitars,” she admits that she thinks it’s “thrilling” they’ll be playing for their most junior crowd to date.

“There are very young girls there, so we’re excited about [that],” she says, mentioning that she thinks it’s pretty special how Rodrigo is imparting her taste and the cult-loved indie band onto a “new generation.”

“When you tell your friend, ‘You should listen to this band,’ I think she's just like that,” Deal says of the pop-rock superstar. “‘You girls and guys need to hear this! This is a good band, and I'm going to have them play for you, so you can see what a good band is.’”

“Maybe that's what she's doing,” the “Divine Hammer” singer adds. “She didn't have to have us!”

Deal also notes that she has loved to see how the Sour artist has been distributing contraceptives at her shows , advocating for abortion access and donating proceeds of her ticket sales to her non-profit Fund For Good . “The announcement about her giving out condoms? Yes. I loved it. Plan B? I loved it. I was like, ‘Oh, f--- yes, you go girl!’” she explains.

It’s been fulfilling to see in part because “she doesn’t have to do that,” but also because Deal remembers how the alt-rock and riot grrrl scenes that have inspired Rodrigo were using their platforms similarly in the ‘90s. “When we were playing [ Lollapalooza in ‘94], there were get out the vote booths, Right to Choose booths … gay rights. There has been a lot of activism for voting and for women's rights and women's health and reproductive rights for decades within [the scene].”

Never miss a story — sign up for  PEOPLE's free daily newsletter  to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from celebrity news to compelling human interest stories. Deal describes The Breeder’s appearance on The GUTS Tour — which revels in Rodrigo’s feminine take on teenage rebellion and emotion — as especially exciting, since the group came out of a music landscape when women in rock were really beginning to carve out their own lane.

“I do remember there was a loneliness back in the day when I was out with The Pixies and I was the only girl on tour,” Deal recalls, sharing that there were times where “oppressive, menacing” encounters out on the road made her feel unwelcome.

Jason Squires/FilmMagic

Bands like Sonic Youth , Bikini Kill, post-punk outfit L-Seven, alt-rockers Throwing Muses, the British group Th' Faith Healers and Dutch band Bettie Serveert, as well as hip-hop stars like Queen Latifah and Salt-N-Pepa , were sources of inspiration for Deal and The Breeders.

“I can be told so many times that there just weren’t a lot of women back in the day. And that's not true. There were tons of women back in the day,” she says.

Deal also reminisces about the riot grrrl movement and scene leaders like Kathleen Hanna who were advocating for women to feel seen in and outside of music. “She was out there up in the Northwest saying things like, ‘Make room for us in the front!’” the musician says of the Bikini Kill frontwoman, now 55.

“It was really a good way of looking at things that nobody was looking at before. And they were cool bands, cool people saying, ‘Give us some room. This is ridiculous,’” she adds, recalling queues of people waiting to crowd surf and stage dive, and countless Doc Martens being thrown on stage and hitting concert-goers in the head.

While Deal might be rather humble when she’s been called an inspiration herself, it all but makes sense the alt-rock icon is taking the stage with Gen Z’s own riot grrrl-inspired rockstar. Even months ago, Rodrigo expressed how much wisdom she hopes to absorb from the Pod group when they cross paths at MSG.

“It really is exciting that I think it's just Olivia,” The Breeders vocalist reiterates of how the hitmaker tapped The Breeders for The GUTS Tour bill. “I think everybody will be cool about it, obviously, because we're the act that she chose.”

Taylor Swift Is Not Attending the 2024 Met Gala to Focus on European Tour Dates

Swift kicks off her Europe tour in Paris on May 9

Taylor Swift is skipping the 2024 Met Gala , PEOPLE can confirm.

Despite reports that she would be attending , the singer, who just dropped her Tortured Poets Department album on April 19, is sitting out fashion's biggest night. Instead, she'll be focusing on rehearsals and tour prep ahead of her Eras Tour dates picking back up on May 9 in Paris before traveling all over Europe during the spring and summer.

The Met Gala, which always takes place on the first Monday in May, will be held on May 6, which would have been a tight squeeze ahead of the tour for Swift, 34.

TMZ previously reported that Swift and her boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, would not be attending the Met Gala this year.

Swift has already attended the prestigious night six times (her most recent appearance was in 2016) while Kelce has yet to make his debut at the prestigious event.

The Grammy winner has had a huge couple of weeks, following the release of The Tortured Poets Department as she prepares to head back out on tour. She has taken over the Billboard chart (again!), has seen her album rack up 1 billion Spotify streams in a week and emotionally shared glowing reviews for her work .

No big deal, right?

While there’s going to be a blank space with Swift absent, the Met Gala is sure to bring out all the heavy hitters in fashion.

This year’s theme is centered on the “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” exhibit, which will feature approximately 250 items — including 15 significant pieces such as an 1877 Charles Frederick Worth silk satin ball gown — that span over 400 years of history. “It is very much an ode to nature and the emotional poetics of fashion,” said Andrew Bolton, Wendy Yu Curator in Charge of the Costume Institute.

Expectedly, the dress code is themed “The Garden of Time” and is inspired by J.G. Ballard’s 1962 short story of the same name. The story follows a count and countess living “in their utopia of leisure, art, and beauty,” as noted by Vogue , who predicts that stars will show up in ensembles paying homage to florals, music and time.

Zendaya , Jennifer Lopez , Chris Hemsworth and Bad Bunny will lead the pack as the four co-chairs of the night. Despite the Met Gala being a few weeks away, some of them have yet to finalize their looks (who can blame them, it’s a lot of pressure).

The Challengers actress, an already five-time attendee (her insane Cinderella transformations on the famous steps is simply unforgettable) told Vanity Fair recently that she still doesn’t “really know” what she’s wearing, but she has “ideas.”

Meanwhile, the This is Me…Now singer is still ruminating over a few potentials. “I have a few different sketches. I’m still deciding,” Lopez told Vogue this week. “I’m also one of those people who chooses at the last minute. Like, I like choices, and then I go, ‘Okay, this is how I feel today,’ and then we try to kinda create some type of amazing look — ‘cause that is the night for looks!”

THE BIG DEAL

"First Bite" - Album Review.

Jono Moulds checks out the new album from The Big Deal for The Rock & Roll Circus. Their debut album, “First Bite” was released on May 13, 2022. Via Frontiers Music Srl.

the big deal tour

The Big Deal , featuring two outstanding vocalists, Ana Nikolic and Nevena Brankovic (who is also a highly skilled keyboard/piano player), offers up a catchy, driving sound that will appeal to both melodic rock and hard rock fans. " First Bite " is an absolute tour de force showcasing the outstanding talents of the individual members over the course of 11 tracks of infectious, hooky, memorable songs.

The Big Deal first came together when guitarist, composer, and producer Srdjan Brankovic and his wife Nevena Brankovic, who is an academic pianist and singer, met singer Ana Nikolic. Ana had spent the past few years fronting local bands, but after meeting Srdjan and Nevena, they started collaborating in the studio together. While working on some new ideas, Srdjan thought it would be interesting to include Ana's vocals in addition to Nevena's in the recordings they were working on. After a couple of songs were finished, they were overjoyed with the results and thus some of The Big Deal's first demos were born. These would eventually morph into the music that was presented to Frontiers and ultimately got them signed. To round out the line-up, the band brought in drummer Marko Milojevic and later, Alessandro Del Vecchio (Hardline, Revolution Saints) on bass (who was instrumental in introducing the band to the label).

Both Srdjan and Marko are members of the most successful Serbian progressive metal band, Alogia. Throughout his career, Srdjan has played on many festivals and tours, recorded, and collaborated on countless studio and live albums, and opened for some well-known bands such as Whitesnake, Ian Paice, Apocalyptica, Savatage, and more. He was also a member of Michael Matijevic's live band in Bulgaria. On his “Expedition Delta” and “Alogia” albums, he collaborated with names such as Tim 'Ripper' Owens, Mark Boals, Erik Norlander, Gary Wehrkamp, Fabio Lione, and Hansi Kursch, among others.

Brankovic states, "I am happy to say that we signed a deal with the premier rock and metal label Frontiers and I am very excited that my priority in the forthcoming years will be cooperation with them. I seem to have found my music a home in the best place in the music universe, since I believe that Frontiers is a label with the best ideas and fantastic projects and releases, which have made the rock scene look far more beautiful and powerful. We started the collaboration with a newly formed band, created in a combination of ideas with Frontiers. Next to me on guitar, a very exciting line-up will feature piano-virtuoso-lady who sings at the same time, Nevena, who I would characterize as an original appearance on the rock scene. Beside Nevena, another rock lady is involved, as a singer. Her name is Ana and she is a R'N'R lover, with a very authentic and beautiful voice. Marko, a friend from my parent-band, will oversee the drums, and Alessandro Del Vecchio will oversee the bass lines. We’re absolutely thrilled about this. Cheers and stay tuned!”

‘Never Say Never’ , hits hard and fast with its strong and impactful opening. There is no intricate and understated build up to this song, as it’s ‘ all in’ from the off, as drums pummel away and guitars go to ’ 10 ’ with the level of gain used, crunching out that main riff. As the first line comes in, there is just enough space for the vocal and keys to introduce themselves, but this is very brief, as we ‘ steam ’ ahead into the pre-chorus, as it’s ‘ all hands-on deck ’ in readiness for the chorus, which as promised, certainly has a melodic and catchy rock edge to it. Vocally, the band are spoiled for choice with two outstanding female vocalists in ‘ Brankovic ’ and ‘ Nikolic’ , both in terms of the power of their voices, but the marriage of the harmonies that they can produce. Within bite size pieces, guitarist ‘ Brankovic ’ has already demonstrated his technical ability, which is further enhanced during the tunes solo. The tune is all wrapped up with a fleeting piano run to finish things off.

An orchestral sounding synth momentarily starts things off in ‘ I Need You Here Tonight ’, but this situation soon changes, as the tune ‘ cranks ’ into life, in a similar vein to the opener, where the band come in, ‘ En masse’ . This is no-nonsense, up-tempo rocker, of that, there is little doubt. I particularly like the punctuated pre-chorus and the change of arrangement/groove, which gives the song something a little different and is a great lead into the chorus itself. Speaking of which, lets discuss that very thing. Once again, the chorus entraps you on the first listen, especially the lovely guitar line that almost echoes the vocal melody itself. The guitar solo has further melodic lines, that are a combination of subtlety and some serious speed, and there’s a synth solo that comes directly after its guitar counterpart, which also isn’t short of some hot playing keys.

With the synth pulsating, then, opting for a statically charged chord pattern, it welcomes us into ‘ Sensational ’. From this point, both the guitar and synth ‘ play around’ with the hook, until a small piano ‘ surge ’ brings us to verse 1. Straight away, my thoughts are this has ‘ radio play’ written all over it, with its undoubtedly captivating vocal melodies and chord progressions. Another silky-smooth pre-chorus has me licking my lips for what’s to come within the chorus itself, and I’m not disappointed. This is by far the most commercially viable song on the album, thus far, with a chorus that is a mixture of pop/rock thrown in for good measure, with that keyboard sound adding the pop and the guitar ‘ chuggage ’ bringing the rock to the party. The solo that accompanies the track has a similar structure to what we saw in the previous, that is, there’s a very ‘ inventive ’ guitar section, followed closely by a synth – very nice. More pop/rock to finish things off with a lone piano and vocal having their moment, before one last chorus to round things off. Excellent stuff.

‘ Top Heaven ’ comes at you with some pace, as guitars scream with some whammy bar madness!!! What a start!!! From here, there is an up-tempo, familiar sounding guitar chord sequence, that certainly doesn’t want to hang about. The ‘ girls ’ are on top form here, with some piercing vocal and super harmonies, making this another very alluring start. Where the last songs balance was leaning more toward that pop/rock sound, this certainly leaves you no doubt that you are about to rock out. The chorus is much more, fist pumping, chant along rather than the subtlety and melody we have found with first three tracks – and I like that it’s been mixed up. This will be a great crowd pleaser, when surely, they play it live. And yet again, we have a very sweet and classical sounding keyboard solo, before the guitar makes a very brief appearance and carries on the pattern of both keyboard/synth solo parts, with the guitar having small solo sections within the tune. The song concludes with another round of choruses (and why not).

This track takes off with immediate effect, as ‘ Wake the Fire’ has an instantaneous charm, with its infectious guitar lick, that has a Bon Jovi feel to it. From there on in, the song once again rides between pop and rock, as the verses are built around clean guitar and layered keyboards. The added advantage that ‘ The Big Deal’ have is that the girls ( vocally that is ) have the dexterity to ease between both genres. This is a considerable advantage, and they obviously write their songs around this fact, having singers who can ‘ dip ’ into both camps with a softer, AOR, pop style and then ramp it up and to bring on the rock!! This song encapsulates this superbly well, not only with that balance, but also with some clever phrases throughout, especially within the chorus, which is another insatiable listen. There is some lovely piano and keyboard along the way, which sets up the guitar piece nicely. Great commercial sounding track – keep them coming please!!!

Quite the juxtaposition, as we move ‘ In the Dead of the Night ’ as a piano and vocal start things moving, only to be interspersed by the jagged crash of drums and guitar – an unusual, but welcome beginning. With an almighty drum roll configuration by ‘ Milojevic’ this song is coming at you with an intense speed, as guitars and keyboard once again, work brilliantly in tandem, keeping this locked in nicely. The band have already shown that they are more than capable of crafting and arranging some mouth-watering chorus sections, and this is no different, as it will ‘ cast ’ you under it spell on the first spin and is another prime example of that AOR/Rock fusion that they have bracketed themselves into. There is a lovely change of tact less than a minute in, as the intensity of the song drops, as it makes way for a far more chilled/softer segment, where the second verse starts off as we did at its opening, but this time, obviously with a vocal to boot. Another classical based synth solo is added as a musical bridge. I like the way that the band have no fear in bringing the synth into the spotlight in nearly every song so far, and as with the those that have come before, the guitar then ‘ swoops ’ in and plays an exceptional piece. Great all round tune this. Another huge commercially sounding start to ‘ Rebel Lady’ , as we once again arrive at the gates of AOR, where we find some ‘ Heart ’ influence hitting you straight in the face, almost as if the tune could easily have been pulled from their ‘ Bad Animals’ opus. A solid and progressive tempo, full of ‘ glassy ’ sounding keyboard runs and effective supporting guitar, hit the mark as they both lay down the foundations to this immediately catchy, radio rock friendly hook. Once more, the ‘ ladies ’ provide some excellent vocal, as we sweep with ease through the first verse and into the pre-chorus, both having great melody lines ‘ stashed ’ within. The chorus does not disappoint one iota, with its big hitting tunefulness that ascends what has come before it. Another batch of verse/pre-chorus and then chorus, brings one mighty, high-pitched scream, as that same vocal note is sustained into the guitar/synth solo ( yes, once more my friends, we have that clever combination/mix to look forward too ). And to finish things off, we have the obligatory rising ‘ key change ’ that so many AOR tracks bring to the table. Another smartly written track, and an obvious single choice for me.

OK then, if the opening guitar outbreak is anything to go by, then we have moved the AOR and are heading bang smack in the middle of some serious ROCK!!! with ‘ Power On’ . This is further enhanced by one serious lung busting scream from ‘ Nikolic ’, as the track moves with a fervent intent. Indeed, all the initial promise is realised as we race through verse one, as at first, there is a broken section ( just vocal here folks ), but it was never going to be the case, as the band crank back into life and its down the ‘ ROCKY ’ road we move!! A change at the pre-chorus stage, but without losing any momentum whatsoever, as this neatly sets up the chorus, which again, has crowd participation written all over it, with its anthemic feel, yet another beast of a vocal is unleashed as the bridge between chorus and the verse. In fact, if you thought the vocal was strong within the previous sections of the tune, the outburst that brings in the solo goes up another notch or two WOW!!!!!! As for the solo, you’ve guessed it, there is yet another immense collaboration between guitar and ( I think Hammond organ this time ) which, just here and there, has some serious inflections to that of Deep Purple’s legends - Blackmore and Lord , especially that organ run which reminded me of ‘ Highway Star ’ in patches. Great to see the band have this within their locker. Great rock tune this.

A surging guitar chord progression, quickly followed by a harmonised lead line over the top of it takes us into ‘ Bad Times, Good Times ’. However, this ‘ brisk ’ initial burst is halted by the introductory verse, which is ‘ taken down a peg ’, where a kick drum (plus associated percussive touches), bass and a clean guitar combination come into play, if only for the initial verse section, as before you know it, the re-introduction of that surging guitar and a thunderous drum roll ( as a pre-cursor to the pre-chorus ) gestures the shift change that was undoubtedly going to occur. As with most of the tracks on this album, pre-chorus sets-up the chorus to a tee, which is as forceful as it is likeable, with another strong hook that sucks you in. As we move away from the second chorus, there is a surprise when we get to the bridge, which features some very chilled and laid-back piano runs, supported by some super cool bass lines from ‘ Del Vecchio’ . After this, well, we get another highly accomplished technical guitar solo from ’ Brankovic ’, that ‘ buzzes ’ as fast as a swarm of bees that have espied a jar of honey with its lid left off. From here, there is another chorus, before we cross the finish line. A solid track indeed.

The penultimate song, and another strong guitar riff to get the ball rolling on ‘ Fallen ’. The opening riff quickly transcending into a sequence of lightly palm muted chords as we head into verse one. This is another great example of ‘ upbeat ’ AOR, but with the guitar bringing a definite edge to proceedings, as we literally ‘ bounce ’ from verse through to a sweet, harmonious chorus, which ( and I’m not fed up saying this ) has the perfect fusion of Pop and Rock. The pattern of verse into chorus goes ‘ around the houses’ one more time before we ‘ fall’ at the feet of the tracks solo piece, which is a keyboard into guitar affair ( sound familiar?? ). This song is unadulterated, pure, 100%, commercial AOR and don’t the band pull it off it some style.

And so, to the final track of the album, that being ‘ Lady of the Night’ , which has another strong and driving start, as a heavily distorted guitar leads the way with the opening chord, with the odd scattering of keyboard ‘ flitting ’ in and out as we head to the opening barrage. As the vocal kicks in, the tune ‘ eases ’ a little, as the initial drive simmers down, as the drums hit a simplified beat made up from the kick and side drum, but this is a temporary situation, as the first pre-chorus picks up more of a ‘ head of steam’ , which has some great touches on the guitar, to be quickly followed by ( I think? ) a second, albeit, ‘ transitory ’ pre-chorus which has some staggered snare drum rolls leading us into the chorus itself.  As for the chorus, well, …………………it’s great ( is that too simplistic for a review?? Apologies, but sometimes less is more ) and has all the hallmarks of so many of the songs on the album, full of hooks and easy to fall in, singalong moments – can’t be faulted. More surprises await though, as the guitar piece has been played on a Spanish Acoustic guitar, which seamlessly leads into…………. that’s right, a keyboard solo – obviously! This is simply a superb track and what a great way to finish off what has been an absolute treat to listen to.

I’ll tell you something, you simply never know what you are going to unwrap when you embark on a review. I have been so, so fortunate with many new releases ( of which I have been asked to listen to/write about ) that surpass my expectations, and this album most certainly falls into that category…….. and then some.

It goes without saying, that the quality and technical level of the band is of an incredibly high standard, and they have been equally blessed to have two fantastic vocalists on board, that bring a huge range of abilities that fit in with the type of music that they base their songs around.

And on that note, what about the songs? Even if you are lucky enough to have all the attributes and skills that are detailed above, without the songs, you’re only halfway to where you want to go. On the evidence of this album, they’ve got the full package to propel themselves into a top AOR outfit, with more than enough of a commercial edge to garner some hit singles along the way too. Great listen, great album.

Texans' Dameon Pierce 'A Big Part of What We're Doing' Says GM Nick Caserio

Dameon Pierce had a disappointing sophomore year, but Houston Texans general manager Nick Caserio believes the third-year running back will have a role for the 2024 season.

  • Author: Coty M. Davis

In this story:

HOUSTON — Dameon Pierce was once considered the Houston Texans' prime running back. He was arguably the team's best offensive weapon during their 3-13-1 record during the 2022 season.

If not for an ankle injury that forced him to miss the final four games, Pierce would have ended his rookie season with over 1,000 yards in rushing. He finished the season with 939 yards on 220 attempts and four touchdowns.

But as he prepares for his third season, Pierce is far from the player who once held the helm as the team's top running back.

His subpar play in 2023 led the Texans to rely on Devin Singletary as the starter. In March, Houston sent a 2024 seventh-round selection to the Cincinnati Bengals for Pro Bowl running back Joe Mixon . A month later, they drafted running back Jawhar Jordan from Louisville during the 2024 NFL Draft.

Pierce's role and future with the Texans are uncertain. But according to executive vice president and general manager Nick Caserio, Pierce will be a big part of what the Texans do in 2024.

"The big thing right now is to be in good condition — which he is," Caserio said during an interview with  Sports Radio 610 's Payne and Pendergast Tuesday morning.

"Watching him move on the field, he looks pretty good. Everybody's looking forward to the opportunity in front of them; you can't worry about what's happened in the past. He's got as good an attitude as anyone on the team. We're glad DP is here. He's going to be a big part of what we're doing. He's working his ass off so far, which is great to see."

Pierce joined the Texans as a fourth-round pick of the 2022 NFL Draft. He has since appeared in 27 games, rushing for 1,355 yards and six touchdowns on 365 attempts.

However it pointed out recent disappointing inflation readings, suggesting moves towards more balance in the economy had stalled.

The interplay between the two can affect the value of the pound and currency alternatives such a gold.

The mega-sized burger is reportedly designed to attract customers who want more filling patties.

It will be introduced in certain markets first to test its appeal.

McDonald's unveiled plans in December that bosses hope will boost growth by focusing on core menu items.

The chain has seen sluggish sales, partly due to its perceived support of Israel in Middle East and Muslim-majority markets.

McDonald's has denied taking any position in the ongoing conflict and said it is not responsible for the actions of its franchisees.

So far, it has launched an ad campaign highlighting what it says are improvements to its Big Mac, quarter pounder with cheese and double cheeseburger.

This is apparently the first time in the company's 84-year history that it has made changes to its classic burgers.

By Emily Mee , Money team

Discovering a hole in your favourite pair of jeans or a rip in your well-worn cosy jumper is certainly irritating - but it doesn't mean those items are destined for the bin.

In fact, ethical fashion campaigners say that's the last place your items should be going. There is usually plenty you can do to repair them - or even to avoid damage in the first place. That way, you can keep your best-loved pieces in your wardrobe for years to come.

Katrina Caspelich, from fair fashion campaign Remake, takes the Money blog through what you can do...

Store your clothes better

Clean them before storing them: Always ensure that clothes are clean before storing them. Launder or dry clean them according to the care instructions on the label. Stains and dirt can attract insects and cause fabric deterioration over time.

Use breathable storage containers: Opt for breathable storage containers such as cotton canvas bags or boxes instead of plastic bins. This allows air circulation and prevents moisture build up, which can lead to mould and mildew.

Avoid direct sunlight: Store clothes in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight. Sunlight can cause colours to fade and weaken fabric fibres over time.

Hang clothes properly: Invest in quality hangers that provide adequate support to garments. Use padded or wooden hangers for delicate items like suits, dresses and knits. Avoid using wire hangers, as they can cause garments to lose their shape. Don't hang wet clothes on hangers - they can stretch.

Use garment bags: For long-term storage of formal wear or seasonal clothing, consider using garment bags to protect items from dust, insects, and moisture.

Rotate clothing: Rotate your wardrobe seasonally to prevent garments from being stored for too long without use. This helps to prevent fabric deterioration and ensures that all pieces are worn regularly.

Avoid overcrowding: Avoid cramming clothes into storage containers or closets. Overcrowding can cause wrinkles, stretching and distortion of fabric fibres. Leave some space between garments to allow for air circulation.

Store leather items properly: Leather garments should be stored in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Use padded hangers to maintain their shape and avoid folding, as creases can become permanent.

Does how you wash clothes make a difference?

What exactly makes a gentle wash gentle? For delicate fabrics, you should always use cool to lukewarm water. (Hot water isn't needed unless you are concerned about bacteria and diseases like COVID-19).

Pro tip: Be wary of wringing out your wet clothes. It can seriously alter the shape of your garments.

Other options

Wash your stuff less. The only clothes that should always be washed after one wear are underwear and sweaty clothes. Most garments worn regularly should be okay to wear two to three times before washing. Unless your denim has a bad habit of stretching out, experts say you should wash them after three or four wears so they age better. You can also throw them in the freezer to kill bacteria.

Spot clean your clothes. To clean a spot, start by removing any excess spillage and blot away as much moisture as possible with a paper towel or hand towel. NO RUBBING. Use some stain remover or gentle detergent on just the stained spot. Let it air dry or use cool air to speed up the process.

Air dry. Hang your clothes outside, Italian style. For heavier items that could stretch when hanging, lay them out flat on a surface to dry.

When should you dry clean?

Read the care tags! Don't be so quick to adhere to every garment's dry clean only tag - there's lots of chemicals involved that lurk on dry-cleaned wool, cotton and polyester. Plus, lots of brands put those tags on when they lack confidence in our ability to properly and gently wash our clothes.

If it is made of wool, linen, silk, cotton or cashmere - which is likely a majority of your closet - these fabrications can handle gentle hand washes so long as you pre-treat and single wash anything with stains, as well as wash items in groups determined by fabrication and colour.

If you aren't 100% sure what exactly a garment is made of, you can always test a little spot under the sink water to see if you get a ton of colour bleeding, warping or shrinkage before going all in.

If your garment has any fancy embellishments, flocking or beads attached by glue then you should probably take it to the cleaners if it's not just in need of a little spot clean.

Pro tip: When you find yourself at the dry cleaners, you can try asking for alternatives like a liquid carbon dioxide cleaning, which uses pressurized CO2 mixed with other gentle cleaning liquids as opposed to perc.  Another option is requesting a wet cleaning method , a wash that resembles a normal washing machine but utilises special soaps and conditioners for an extra gentle wash.

How do you know when a broken item is repairable, or when it's no longer usable?

It's important to always assess the extent of the damage. Small tears, missing buttons, loose hems or minor stains are usually repairable with basic sewing skills or by taking them to a tailor.

Considering the condition of the fabric is also important. For example, if the fabric is in good shape apart from the damaged area, it may be worth repairing.

However, if the fabric is severely worn out or faded in multiple places, it may not be worth repairing. Also, some types of damage such as large holes, extensive fraying or irreparable stains may render the garment unusable or not cost-effective to repair.

Finally, it's important to consider the sentimental value of the item. If the piece holds sentimental value or is a high-quality piece, you may just want to hold on to it and invest in repairs.

If the item is no longer usable, you could upcycle or repurpose it. Get creative and turn the item into something new. Some ideas include turning old jeans into shorts, using fabric scraps for quilting or crafts, or transforming a worn-out tee into a cleaning rag.

Donation is another option. If the clothing item is still in decent condition despite the damage, consider donating it to a local charity or thrift store as some organisations accept damaged clothing for recycling or repurposing.

Finally, look for textile recycling programmes in your area. Many communities have textile recycling centres or programmes that accept old clothing, even if it's damaged, to be recycled into new textiles or other products.

How about shoes?

Like clothing, extending the wear of your shoes requires proper care and maintenance. Some ideas include rotating your shoes between different pairs of shoes every day to allow each pair to air out and recover their shape between wears.

Clean your shoes regularly to remove dust, dirt and stains.

It's also a good idea to apply waterproofing spray to protect your shoes from water, stains, snow and other environmental damage. Like clothing, it's important to attend to any signs of damage or wear as soon as possible, replacing worn-out soles, repairing loose stitching, and fixing damaged heels to prevent further deterioration. Definitely consider taking your shoes to a professional cobbler for these regular repairs!

Bitcoin has suffered its biggest monthly loss since June 2022 - amid signs that market euphoria is starting to cool.

The world's biggest cryptocurrency saw its price plunge by almost 15% in April.

Even though we're just 12 hours into a brand-new month, Bitcoin is continuing to fall further.

This digital asset is often valued in dollars rather than pounds - and certain price points tend to have psychological significance for traders.

Over the past few weeks, Bitcoin had successfully managed to avoid a big fall under $60,000 (about £48,000).

But all of that changed in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

After the $60,000 threshold crumbled, a sharp drop to $57,000 soon followed.

So... with Bitcoin down 7% over the past 24 hours, what happens next?

Well - traders are now engaged in what can best be described as an arm wrestle.

If Bitcoin manages to hold stable around $57,000, its value may start to recover.

But if selling pressure grows as American investors start to wake up and see what's happened, further declines are to be expected.

Bitcoin has now fallen by 22% since hitting an all-time high of $73,750 in March - which technically puts this cryptocurrency in a bear market.

However, avid enthusiasts will insist this is nothing more than a healthy correction, and Bitcoin's longer-term prospects are good.

One thing is clear: this is a volatile asset, and investors should only put in whatever they can afford to lose.

In what seems to be becoming a daily occurrence, four more lenders have announced mortgage rate rises.

Halifax, BM Solutions and Virgin are all doing so for the second time in around a week. They're joined by Nottingham Building Society.

Halifax are increasing rates on purchase products by up to 0.2%; BM Solutions by up to 0.24%. These begin tomorrow.

Virgin increased rates on products between 0.08% and 0.2% yesterday evening, while Nottingham has lifted rates this morning by up to 0.25%.

Mortgage rates have spiked in the last two weeks as financial markets have moved from pricing in a base rate cut in June to thinking it will come in August. Expectations of three cuts this year are now two.

The backdrop is sticky inflation in the US - and concern the global and domestic battle against rising prices isn't over yet.

Skipton had actually announced some decreases - but any optimism from this proved momentary.

Dariusz Karpowicz, director at Albion Financial Advice, told Newspage: "The atmosphere in the mortgage market is rather grim, with major players like Halifax, BM Solutions, Virgin and Nottingham Building Society repeatedly raising their fixed rates.

"This pattern of frequent rate hikes, sometimes occurring multiple times within a week, is casting a shadow over market sentiment.

"The anticipated 'spring bounce' is nowhere in sight; instead, we're witnessing a continuation of mortgage woes.

"Higher rates are expected to dampen buyer enthusiasm and potentially delay any positive momentum.

"As for when borrowers can expect relief, it hinges on broader economic stabilisation. For now, the outlook remains cautious and subdued."
