If you travel to a country that isn’t covered by Global Travel Pass during an active session, you’ll be charged the pay-as-you-go rate for that country.

What happens if I remove Global Travel Pass from a line? Removing Global Travel Pass from a line during an active session will prevent a new pass from starting. You can remove Global Travel Pass at any time to pay as you go for calls, text messages, and data while abroad.

Do I need to remove Global Travel Pass when I return home? There’s no need to remove Global Travel Pass once you return home, since you’ll only be charged for a pass during an active session when you call, text message, or use data abroad. Global Travel Pass can stay on your line until you’re ready to use it the next time you travel internationally. You can always remove Global Travel Pass at any time through your account online or through our app.

If I’ve used the maximum LTE data allowance for Global Travel Pass, can I get more? You get 512 MB of LTE data per pass. Once you’ve reached this limit, you’ll have data available for use at 2G speeds until a new pass activates. The data you use while abroad will count toward your By the Gig or Unlimited data option. If you need to use a lot of data while abroad, connecting to WiFi can give you faster speeds.

Can I add Global Travel Pass to my tablet or smartwatch with Xfinity Mobile? No. At this time, Global Travel Pass can only be added to mobile phone lines.

Will I be charged roaming data charges while connected to WiFi? Some Apple and Android devices can enable their WiFi Calling feature to make free international calls from anywhere in the world where WiFi is available.

What is the IATA Travel Pass and do I need it to travel?

For most international travel, you’ll have to provide proof of vaccination, a negative COVID-19 test or proof you’ve recovered from the virus in order to cross borders.

With many travelers and airlines looking for a simple way to store this information digitally, the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) Travel Pass health information checking service is being rolled out by more and more airlines, and so are its competitors like CommonPass and VeriFLY. They’re not vaccination passports, so what are they, how do they work, who’s behind them—and should you use them?

What is the IATA Travel Pass?

The IATA Travel Pass is one of a variety of “health credential” services that some airlines are using to help them check the validity of the proof you send them of your COVID-19 status—whether that’s your vaccination, a recent test, recovery from the disease, or a combination of all three.

Read more:  What is a vaccine passport and do I need one to travel?

It’s essentially an app on your phone where you take pictures of your vaccination records, a recent test or the proof you’ve recovered from COVID-19 within a certain time frame specified by the government of wherever you’re traveling to (and sometimes from). These are then checked and your airline is given either a green light or a red light for you to travel, according to the government travel rules of your destination country.

Dozens of airlines are trialling or using it—and other providers’ passes—to help them process your documentation, ideally well before you get to the airport. This helps them reduce queues and the cost of having staff members check your documents in person.

It’s different to the national or regional health pass wallets, like France’s TousAntiCovid , New York’s Excelsior Pass or the UK’s NHS COVID Pass . However, in the future, there may be links between them.

Other passes exist, with CommonPass and VeriFLY also in relatively wide use. Bear in mind that airlines may be trialling multiple pass options on different routes, so check any emails carefully and have a look at their website to confirm which you can use.

How do they work?

You take pictures of your documentation or upload an existing picture, depending on the functionality of the various apps. This is then processed by the app provider’s staff—whether the IATA Travel Pass, CommonPass, VeriFLY or whatever—who confirm whether your documentation is valid.

It can be a bit of a logistical humdinger to need to take a picture of the everyday vaccination pass or test result that lives in one app on your phone with another app on your phone. Keeping paper copies of your vaccination certificates and test results can be very helpful, but in a pinch you can always find a friend to send them to, and then take a picture of their phone.

Once the processing is done, which usually is a matter of minutes or hours, you essentially get a green light that you’re good to go, or a red light that means you can’t travel until you’ve fixed a problem.

That might be because: you’re vaccinated with a vaccine not recognised in your destination; you sent in the wrong type of test (antigen not PCR, say); your test wasn’t taken recently enough (perhaps it was taken 49 hours before you are supposed to travel, but your destination requires it to be less than 48); or simply that they weren’t able to read your documents.

Read more: PCR tests for travel: everything you need to know

Do keep an eye out for this—getting another vaccination isn’t exactly a fixable problem, but getting another test might not be the end of the world.

Who runs these passes?

IATA’s travel pass is run by an airline trade industry group, the International Air Transport Association , which is sort of a Better Business Bureau for airlines. Remember, IATA is not a governmental or intergovernmental body, it’s an airline association.

CommonPass is run by a non-profit public trust with links to the World Economic Forum (sometimes referred to as Davos, after the location of its annual meeting) and the Rockefeller Foundation.  VeriFLY , meanwhile, is a product of biometric authentication software business Daon . Airlines are essentially outsourcing the verification to these apps, but in some cases, airlines are requesting that you upload the relevant information to them directly.

If you’re concerned about what happens to your data, that’s certainly a valid concern. As one example, British Airways uses VeriFLY for all flights into the UK. But its small print says: “The VeriFLY App is completely independent of British Airways and you are submitting your information directly to Daon (acting as the data controller), please check Daon’s privacy policy and terms and conditions.” However, it’s worth reading the fine print on VeriFLY to fully understand how your data will be used.

Where will I use a travel pass, is it mandatory, and should I use it?

A growing number of airlines are using them, so you’re likely to be seeing them the next time you take an international flight.

At present, they’re usually not fully required, but you can expect to receive multiple emails encouraging you to use them. You may also start seeing fast-track queues for people who have taken the time to enter their data. After all, it will take less time for an expert on these processes to check your documents remotely a day in advance than for a stressed check-in agent to try to figure out whether your vaccination certificate is valid or not.

So should you use it? Well, if you have privacy concerns, those seem valid—this technology has been developed pretty quickly, and it’s worth reading the privacy policies of the app should you have any reservations.

how can I check if I have travel pass verizon

Verizon is among the leading telecommunications companies in the United States, known for its exceptional service and coverage. If you're a Verizon customer and planning to travel internationally, you may be wondering if you have a travel pass with Verizon to ensure seamless connectivity while abroad. In this article, we will explore simple steps to check if you have a travel pass with Verizon, enabling you to stay connected and enjoy a hassle-free travel experience.

What You'll Learn

Verizon travel pass explained: what it is and how it works, steps to check if you have travel pass on your verizon plan, alternative ways to determine if you have travel pass with verizon, troubleshooting tips if you can't find your travel pass on verizon plan.

Do you have a Verizon travel pass and want to know how it works? Or maybe you're considering getting one but want to better understand what it is and how it can benefit you? In this blog post, we'll discuss Verizon travel pass in detail, explaining what it is, how it works, and how you can check if you have it or not.

Verizon travel pass is a feature offered by Verizon Wireless that allows you to use your domestic plan's talk, text, and data allowances while traveling internationally. It is available for both postpaid and prepaid plans and enables you to stay connected with your friends, family, and business associates even when you're abroad.

The travel pass feature lets you take your Verizon plan with you to more than 185 countries, so you can use your device just like you would at home. Whether you're traveling for business or pleasure, Verizon travel pass ensures that you can make and receive calls, send texts, and use data without worrying about expensive roaming charges or the hassle of getting a local SIM card.

To check if you have travel pass enabled on your Verizon plan, follow these steps:

  • Log in to your Verizon Wireless account. You can do this through the Verizon website or the My Verizon app on your smartphone or tablet.
  • Once logged in, navigate to the "Plans & Devices" section of your account.
  • Find your current plan and click on it to view the details.
  • Look for a section titled "International Options" or "Travel Pass." If you see this section, it means that you have travel pass enabled on your plan.

If you don't see the "International Options" or "Travel Pass" section in your plan details, it means that you may not have travel pass activated on your account. In this case, you'll need to contact Verizon customer service to inquire about adding the travel pass feature to your plan.

Now that you know how to check if you have Verizon travel pass, let's briefly discuss how it works. When you travel to a supported country, such as Canada, Mexico, or many countries in Europe, Asia, and South America, Verizon will automatically detect your usage and apply the travel pass feature.

Under the travel pass feature, you'll be charged a flat daily rate for each 24-hour period you use your device in an eligible country. The daily fee covers your usage of voice calls, texts, and data, and is much more affordable compared to traditional roaming charges. The exact cost per day may vary depending on your plan, but it is typically around $10 per day.

Once you use your device in an eligible country, you'll receive a message from Verizon confirming that the travel pass has been activated and detailing the charges. You don't need to make any changes to your device's settings or manually enable the feature – Verizon takes care of everything for you.

In conclusion, Verizon travel pass is a convenient and cost-effective way to stay connected while traveling internationally. By checking your Verizon plan details, you can easily determine if you have travel pass enabled or if you need to contact Verizon to add it to your plan. With travel pass, you can use your device just like you would at home, without worrying about excessive roaming charges or the inconvenience of obtaining a local SIM card. So, if you travel frequently or have an upcoming trip abroad, consider activating Verizon travel pass to ensure uninterrupted connectivity.

You may want to see also

If you have a Verizon plan and are planning to travel internationally, it's important to check if you have Travel Pass included in your plan. Travel Pass allows you to use your existing plan's talk, text, and data allowances while abroad for a daily fee. To check if you have Travel Pass on your Verizon plan, follow these simple steps:

Step 1: Open your web browser and go to the Verizon Wireless website.

Step 2: Click on the "Sign In/Register" button located at the top-right corner of the page.

Step 3: Enter your Verizon Wireless username and password, and then click the "Sign In" button to log into your account.

Step 4: Once logged in, you will be redirected to your account overview page. Here, you will see an overview of your current plan and any additional services or features that are associated with it.

Step 5: Scroll down the page and look for the "Features" section. Click on the "Manage" button next to the Features section.

Step 6: In the next window, you will see a list of all the features that are included in your plan. Look for the "TravelPass" feature on the list.

Step 7: If you see "TravelPass" listed, it means that you have the feature included in your plan. You can now use it when traveling internationally. If you don't see it listed, it means that TravelPass is not included in your plan, and you will need to add it if you want to use your Verizon plan while abroad.

If you don't have TravelPass included in your plan, you have a couple of options. You can either add TravelPass to your existing plan for a daily fee or consider upgrading to a plan that includes international roaming options.

Adding TravelPass to your plan is easy. Simply go back to the "Features" section and click on the "Add TravelPass" button. Follow the prompts to add it to your plan.

Upgrading to a plan with international roaming options may be a better option if you travel frequently. Contact Verizon customer service to discuss your options and find the plan that best suits your needs.

Remember, it's important to check if you have TravelPass before traveling internationally to avoid any unexpected charges or disruptions to your service. By following these steps, you can quickly and easily check if you have TravelPass on your Verizon plan and enjoy the benefits of using your phone while abroad.

Exploring the Rules and Regulations of Traveling Abroad with an H1B Visa Amendment

If you are a Verizon customer and frequently travel internationally, you may have opted for the TravelPass service. TravelPass allows you to use your Verizon plan's minutes, texts, and data internationally at an additional daily fee. However, if you are unsure whether you have TravelPass enabled on your account, there are a few alternative ways to check.

  • Contact Verizon customer service: The easiest way to determine if you have TravelPass with Verizon is to give their customer service a call. You can dial *611 from your Verizon device, or use any of the contact numbers provided on their website to speak with a representative. Inform them about your question and provide your account details. They will be able to check if TravelPass is active on your account and provide you with the necessary information.
  • Check your Verizon online account: Another way to check if you have TravelPass is by logging into your Verizon online account. Visit the Verizon website and click on the "Sign In" button located at the top right corner of the homepage. Enter your login credentials and click on "Sign In." Once you are logged in, navigate to the "My Plans & Services" section. Here, you should be able to see if TravelPass is listed as one of your services. If it is listed, it means you have TravelPass on your account.
  • Use the My Verizon app: If you prefer using your mobile device to check your Verizon services, you can download and use the My Verizon app. After installing the app from your device's app store, open it and sign in with your Verizon account credentials. Once you are logged in, navigate to the "My Plan" or "Plan" section within the app. Here, you should be able to see if TravelPass is listed as one of your services. If it is listed, it means you have TravelPass on your account.
  • Check your bill or invoice: If you receive regular billing statements from Verizon, you can also check your bill or invoice for any mention of TravelPass. Look for a section that details your services or add-ons. If TravelPass is listed, it means you have it enabled on your account.

Remember, checking your account directly through Verizon customer service, the online account, the My Verizon app, or your billing statements are the most accurate ways to determine if you have TravelPass activated on your Verizon account. If you do not have TravelPass but frequently travel internationally, you may consider contacting Verizon to enable this service for seamless communication abroad.

Understanding Visa Requirements for International Travel: When Do You Need a Visa?

If you are a Verizon customer and are planning to travel abroad, you may have opted for the TravelPass feature to stay connected while you are away. TravelPass allows you to use your existing plan's data, minutes, and texts while traveling in over 185 countries.

However, if you are having trouble finding your TravelPass or are unsure if you have it enabled, here are some troubleshooting tips to help you out:

  • Check your Verizon account online: The first step is to log in to your Verizon account on their website. Once logged in, navigate to the "Plans & Services" section. Here, you should be able to see if you have the TravelPass feature listed under your plan details. If it's not listed, you may need to enable it or contact Verizon customer support.
  • Use the My Verizon app: If you prefer using a mobile app, Verizon offers the "My Verizon" app, available for both iOS and Android devices. Open the app and log in to your account. Similar to the website, you should be able to find TravelPass under your plan details. If not, follow the next steps.
  • Contact Verizon customer support: If you cannot find TravelPass on your account through the website or app, your best option is to reach out to Verizon customer support. They can check the status of your plan and assist you in enabling TravelPass if it's not already activated. You can contact them via phone, online chat, or even social media platforms like Twitter.
  • Verify your eligibility: It's worth noting that not all Verizon plans include TravelPass by default. Some older plans may require an additional charge or activation. Contacting customer support will help you determine if your plan is eligible for TravelPass or if you need to make any changes to your account to add this feature.
  • Reboot your device: In some cases, a simple solution to many connectivity issues is to restart your smartphone or tablet. A reboot can refresh the device's network settings and potentially resolve any software glitches that could be preventing the TravelPass feature from appearing.

Remember, TravelPass is typically an add-on feature that incurs additional charges when used. Before traveling, ensure that you understand the associated costs and terms to avoid any surprises on your bill.

In conclusion, if you cannot locate the TravelPass feature on your Verizon account, check your account online or through the My Verizon app. If it's not listed, contact Verizon customer support to enable it or determine your eligibility. Additionally, try rebooting your device to refresh any network settings. By following these steps, you should be able to troubleshoot and find your TravelPass feature on your Verizon plan and enjoy seamless connectivity while traveling abroad.

How To Use The Metro In Paris

A fter countless trips to Paris as the founder of En Route to Rêverie , I can confidently say my preferred method of transportation in the city is my own two feet (I guess that’s the New Yorker in me!) However, for times when I need to travel further distances or the weather is uncooperative, I always turn to the Paris Metro.

How to Use the Metro in Paris

This underground train network provides an affordable and efficient way for locals and visitors to get to any part of the city. For a lot of first time visitors the Paris metro system can be a daunting experience. So today I’m sharing a guide to help you navigate the Paris Metro with ease. Be sure to save this video on Instagram as well to bookmark for your next trip.

Related: Paris First Time Visitors Guide

I find the idea of using public transportation abroad can be overwhelming for a lot of people, especially when it’s in a different language! This post will give you all the basic information you need on what the Paris Metro is, how it works, which Paris Metro pass to purchase, and where to buy metro tickets.

I’ll also share some of my tried and true tips so you can confidently navigate one of Europe’s best subway systems. My En Route to Rêverie clients also get additional insights, advice, and guidance on navigating the Paris metro system as well as my most trusted alternative transportation options.

What Is The Metro in Paris

One of the oldest subway systems in the world, the first Paris Métropolitain (or simply Métro) line was opened in 1900, just in time for the World’s Fair. Today, there are 16 interconnected lines (each with a number) and the subway system transports over 4 million passengers per day! This extensive public transportation system is built under the city of Paris and extends out to nearby suburban areas of the city.

The Paris Metro is a densely packed system (there are over 300 Paris metro stations), meaning stations are not too far apart which is great for getting as close as possible to your destination. I personally find the Paris Metro to be one of the most efficient, reliable and affordable subway systems.

It’s important to note that the RATP (the name for Paris’ public transportation system) includes the metro (underground subway), buses, RER Paris regional trains (sort of a metro-rail hybrid), and trains.

Paris Metro Zones

Paris operates on a “zone” system for public transportation. The city and surrounding areas are divided into 5 transportation fare zones (this is different from the 20 neighborhoods or arrondissements!) It’s important to note that the metro zones really only come into play for travel passes. Or if you want to take something other than the Paris Metro – like RER trains or buses. The Paris Metro subway operates exclusively in zones 1-3, with the overwhelming majority of stations in zone 1.

Zones 1-3 include the majority of major tourist attractions in Paris. Most visitors will never even leave zone 1. Here you’ll find most hotels as well as the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, Musée d’Orsay, Arc de Trimophe.

Zone 4 is where you will find Chateau Versailles and Orly Airport. The Paris Metro underground does not reach these destinations. To get to Versailles, you will have to take the RER train to Versailles-Rive Gauche . To get to Orly Airport you will have to take the RER train to Antony and then the OrlyVal train (the airport’s specific automatic train).

Zone 5 is where you will find Charles de Gaulle Airport and Disneyland Paris. To get to CDG Airport you will need to take the RER train to Aéroport Charles de Gaulle 1 (terminals 1 & 3) or Aéroport Charles de Gaulle 2  (terminal 2).

To get to Disneyland Paris you will need to take the RER train to Marne-la-Vallée — Chessy.

Paris   Metro  Passes

With such a sprawling RATP network, there are endless public transportation pass options. Below are the Paris travel passes I would most recommend for visitors. Unfortunately (and probably the only major downside of the Paris metro), unlike in other cities you cannot just tap-to-pay with your credit card. You will need to purchase some type of pass.

Single Tickets

One of the easiest options for riding the Paris Metro is a single ticket, or a t+ ticket. A single ticket costs €2,10 and gives you access to travel to any metro station regardless of zone, including metro transfers, as well as the Montmartre funicular. Historically these have been sold as small paper tickets that you can purchase in a packet of 10 (a carnet) for a slight discount, but these paper tickets are being phased out. However if you do use the paper tickets you will need to physically insert the ticket into the gate, it will be validated, the doors will open, then you need to take the ticket with you.

Navigo Easy Pass

As the paper tickets are phased out, the Navigo Easy Pass is far and away the best option for Paris Visitors. It’s similar to an Oyster card in London or a Washington, DC SmarTrip card. It’s a reusable, refillable plastic metro card (no more losing paper tickets!) that costs €2 to purchase – you can then add a single ticket, or a digital packet of 10 tickets at a discount.

With these passes, you will tap them at the gate to open. You will need to purchase your Navigo Easy Card from a booth with an attendant at a metro station, major train station, or CDG airport. And you can reload your pass with a credit card at any of the purple kiosks you see at metro stations.

You cannot share a Navigo Easy pass between multiple people on the same journey. And you will need to purchase a separate ticket to get to the airport, Versailles, or Disneyland Paris via RER. You can purchase those tickets at the RER station.

Navigo Decouverte Pass

This is a bit of a tricky pass, but you can get a lot of bang for your buck if the conditions are right. Similar to the Easy Pass, the Navigo Decouverte is also a reusable, refillable plastic metro card. The difference is that this card is a week-long, unlimited pass for the Paris Metro, all RER trains, all buses and trams. It includes travel to CDG, Disneyland Paris, and Versailles and costs €30 for the week.

The catch is that regardless of when you purchase a weekly pass, coverage is only valid from Monday morning at 12:01AM to Sunday at 11:59 PM. If you buy the pass after Thursday at midnight you cannot use the pass for that current week. Like the Easy Pass, this pass must also be purchased from a booth with an attendant. It costs €5 and also requires a small passport photo (another tricky aspect) so you will need to either bring one with you or use one of the photo booths in the station. Like I said, this pass is complicated but can be an amazing deal if your travel dates line up and you don’t mind the extra hoops.

Paris Visite Pass

The Paris Visite Pass is a multi day pass marketed specifically to visitors and offers unlimited public transportation on the Paris Metro, RER, and buses for 1, 2, 3, or 5 consecutive days. You must select how many days and which zones you’d like access to (either zones 1-3 or all zones). Depending on how much you anticipate taking public transportation this can be a great deal! They also offer discounted passes for children. These are paper passes that can be purchased at the ticket booth or kiosks in metro and RER stations, train stations, airports, and tourist offices.

Where To Buy  Metro  Tickets In  Paris

Metro tickets and passes can be purchased at:

  • Paris metro stations
  • RER stations
  • Train stations (Gare du Nord, Gare de l’Est, Gare de Lyon, Gare d’Austerlitz, Gare Montparnasse, Gare Saint-Lazare)
  • Airports (CDG and Orly)

Keep in mind that travel passes like the Easy Pass and Decouverte need to be initially purchased at a manned ticket booth inside the stations, but then can be topped up at a kiosk. You can still purchase paper tickets at most automatic ticket kiosks. You can always use a credit card to purchase your ticket(s) or pass.

Paris   Metro  Tips

Hold onto your paper ticket.

You need to be in possession of your paper ticket until you’ve finished your ride and left the Metro station for good. Police are regularly checking passengers’ fares. So be sure you always have your proof of payment at the ready otherwise you may land a fine. I know many travelers who have fallen victim to this often forgotten rule! This is another reason why I suggest purchasing the Navigo Easy Pass.

Kids don’t always travel free

While children under 4 ride free, children 4-10 can ride at a 50% discount. Remember, when traveling with kids they need to have their own Navigo Easy pass or their own paper ticket.

Know the Paris Metro operating hours

The Paris Metro operates from 5:30AM to 1:15AM daily. On Friday and Saturday evenings it operates until 2:15AM. Rush hour for the Paris Metro is usually 8 – 9 AM, and 6 – 7:30 PM.

Keep an eye on your things

As in most major metropolitan cities, use caution and exercise good judgement. Keep your personal belongings zipped up and in front of you, important items like wallets and phones should also be in your bag or front pocket. This should be followed for your entire metro experience – not just on the train itself.

Visit the iconic Art Nouveau metro entrances

It’s always such a treat to visit one of the iconic and historic Art Nouveau metro entrances. At the turn of the century, French architect Hector Guimard was hired to design these aesthetically pleases entrances to the city’s brand new metro system. Today, 86 still remain. Some of my favorites include Palais-Royal–Musée-du-Louvre, Cité, and Saint-Michel–Notre-Dame.

You might need to open the door yourself

On most of the metro cars, you will need to manually open the door to get on and off. Only a couple of lines have automatic doors! My tip is to watch how others do it your first time. It’s very easy!

Meta Quest’s new Travel Mode will put more glassholes on your next flight

Another vision pro feature comes to quest headsets..

Three windows being used in Quest passthrough on an airplane.

Meta Quest headsets are ready to go on flights with you as Meta has announced a new Travel Mode. The company is rolling out the experimental feature to Quest 2 and 3 headsets running Quest software version 65 or later, allowing owners to use the headset in passthrough on a flight without windows drifting away from them.

To try it, opt in under Settings > Experimental features . Then the new mode will live in the Quick settings panel, where you can toggle it from the Quest’s universal menu. Travel Mode isn’t without limitations — it’s not designed to account for the motion of a car or train, for instance; Meta says support for other transportation methods is coming. Also, if a game or app requires an internet connection, your plane will still need to offer Wi-Fi.

Quest headsets could already be used on flights, but doing it required turning off positional tracking, which also disables passthrough, as UploadVR notes .

  • Meta’s Quest headsets add spatial video and pinch controls to compete with Vision Pro

The new mode seems aimed straight at Apple’s Vision Pro , which launched with a similar travel mode (and similar caveats). I’ve tried the headset in a car — as a passenger, of course; I’m not a monster — and it still mostly worked as long as the car wasn’t stopping and going a lot, and tracking failed if I looked out the side windows. Depending on how the Meta Quest’s new mode works, that could be the case for it as well, or it could be that it simply refuses to work if it doesn’t think you’re on a plane.

The new Travel Mode joins a growing list of Vision Pro-style features that Meta has added to its headset that debuted on Apple’s $3,500 headset earlier this year. This includes more expansive pinch controls as well as the ability to use it lying down and play back spatial videos recorded on an iPhone 15 Pro or Pro Max.

Update May 13th, 12:54PM ET: Added videos posted by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and CTO Andrew Bosworth.

No. Traveling to an EoA participating airport is a decision of convenience for the applicant.

What if I’m traveling with a mixed party- some travelers being conditionally approved and others not? How do we proceed through the U.S. Customs and Border Protection area when we arrive in the United States?

This depends on the airport at which you’re arriving. Please check with a CBP Officer at the Enrollment on Arrival Port of Entry to determine if your complete travel party can utilize the EoA lane.

What materials/documents will I need to bring to my EoA interview?

To complete the interview via EoA, you must be in possession of the following documents:

  • A valid passport. If you travel using more than one passport, please bring them all to the interview so that the information can be added to your file.
  • Documents providing evidence of residency. Examples are: driver's license (if the address is current), mortgage statement, rental payment statement, utility bill, etc. This is not required for minors.
  • A permanent resident card (if applicable).

How soon after my EoA interview will I learn of my final decision?

The final decision notification timeline can vary.  Please monitor your email and check your TTP account for updates regarding the status of your Global Entry application.

When will EoA expand to other airports and under what criteria?

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is currently planning to expand EoA to additional airports.  Travelers can review the EoA webpage on the CBP website for EoA expansion updates.

Flying internationally? Here’s what you need to know about the Mobile Passport Control app

Melissa Klurman

I'm a big fan of Mobile Passport Control and have been a loyal user for many years. It's my entry expediting program of choice when I return to the U.S. from overseas and want to avoid long lines at U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

The program continues to expand. Currently, eligible U.S. citizens and Canadian citizen visitors can use Mobile Passport Control at 51 sites, including 33 international airports in the U.S., 14 preclearance locations and four seaports.

It's available at two of the three airports near my home — New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), the latter of which I frequent most — making it incredibly convenient for me to use.

At both JFK and EWR, Mobile Passport Control funnels me into the line for diplomats, providing the equivalent of VIP service for free. I was concerned and disappointed when it seemed like the service was being phased out in the past. However, it turns out it wasn't the program that was changing, just the app to use it.

In fact, I find I can use Mobile Passport Control more frequently despite recent changes made to the app name and appearance.

what is a my travel pass

According to a representative from Airside — the developer of the original Mobile Passport Control app — the blue and white airport pilot icon in both the Apple and Google Play app stores is now just a placeholder. When you click it, you'll be directed to CBP's MPC app.

what is a my travel pass

Despite the change, this is still the Mobile Passport Control app. The only difference is it is now operated directly by CBP instead of Airside as of Feb. 1, 2022.

If you're unfamiliar with the concept of Mobile Passport Control, it's a free service that speeds up entry at select ports and airports nationwide. At its most basic level, it generates a digital version of the required customs form to complete on your phone and then generates a digital QR code to show at passport control.

The new app works the same as the previous version, according to CBP.

First, travelers download the CBP MPC app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. (Do this when you have Wi-Fi.)

Once they land in the U.S., there are a few steps to take.

"Travelers will select their arrival airport or seaport and terminal, take a self-photo, and answer a series of CBP inspection-related questions," the CBP says. "Once the traveler submits their transaction through the app, the traveler will receive an electronic receipt with an Encrypted Quick Response (QR) code. Travelers then bring their physical passport and mobile device with their digital QR-coded receipt to a CBP officer to finalize their inspection for entry into the United States."

Unlike Global Entry — which costs $100 for a five-year membership (and will go up to $120 soon ) — Mobile Passport Control is free. It does not require travelers to apply or get approved (a process that can take up to 11 months for Global Entry, according to CBP).

One noticeable difference between the new CBP version and the original Mobile Passport Control app is that there is no paid, upgraded version. Previously, the Airside model had offered a paid version that stored your information so you didn't have to reload it each time (as you did with the free basic offering).

My most recent experience with Mobile Passport Control indicates that my information (and that of my husband and son, whom I added to my app) is stored for future use; however, we still need to take a new photo every time we open the app when we land. It's a small inconvenience compared to the time and money we save by using this simple app and program.

Passport renewal can be a pain. What to know about applications, appointment wait times.

what is a my travel pass

There are many reasons why someone may need a new passport . Whether it's because your last one was damaged or it was expired , you'll want to have a valid passport before you travel. And you'll need one if you have an upcoming international trip.

Applying for a passport can feel a little heavy on the bureaucracy thanks to all the documents and forms you need. And once you've applied, the wait time to get it may be longer than expected.

If you are looking to apply for or renew a passport, here is a guide on how to get one and how quickly you can expect it to come.

How to get a passport?

The process for passport application varies depending on your situation.

Learn more: Best travel insurance

According to the U.S. Department of State, you should apply in person if:

  • You are applying for your first passport.
  • You are applying for your child who is under 16.
  • Your previous passport was issued when you were under 16.
  • Your previous passport was lost, stolen or damaged.
  • Your previous passport was issued over 15 years ago.

In these cases, you must fill out form DS-11 (that can be found online ) and print it to apply in person.

If none of the above apply, you may be able to get a new passport by mail. According to the State Department, you are eligible to renew by mail if:

  • You have your most recent passport (and it is not damaged) and can submit it with your application.
  • Your most recent passport was never reported lost or stolen.
  • Your most recent passport was issued in the last 15 years.
  • Your most recent passport issued when you were 16 or older.
  • Your most recent passport is issued to your current name, or you can present a document – such as a marriage certificate or divorce papers – as evidence of a legal name change.
  • "It was not limited to less than the normal 10 year period of validity for an adult passport due to multiple passport thefts or losses, or due to issues with passport damage or mutilation."

In these cases, fill out form DS-82 (that can be found online ).

What do you need to get a passport?

According to the USAGov, if you are applying for a passport for the first time as an adult , you must bring the following:

  • Application form (form DS-11)
  • Proof of citizenship (such as birth certificate) and government-issued photo ID (such as driver's license)
  • Photocopies of both citizenship document and photo ID
  • Passport photo

According to the USAGov, these are the documents you will need if you're renewing :

  • Renewal form (form DS-82)
  • Your most recent passport

If your name has changed since your last passport, you will have to provide legal documentation to verify, such as a certified copy of your marriage certificate or a court order of name change.

How fast can I get a passport?

Expedited processing time is two to three weeks for passport applications applied on or after Dec. 18 2023, according to the State Department.

Processing time does not include mailing time. It could take up to two weeks from your application day for your passport to be "in process."

As of May 2024, routine processing time is six to eight weeks .

You asked: Do I need a passport for my cruise?

By The Way Concierge digs into the (surprisingly) complicated rules for travel by sea.

what is a my travel pass

Traveling has always come with complications. Our By The Way Concierge column will take your travel dilemmas to the experts to help you navigate the unexpected. Want to see your question answered? Submit it here .

We’re going on a very short cruise from California to Mexico this spring. Do we need passports for our kids, even if we don’t get off the ship? — Ben, Springfield, Va.

There’s a difference between what you need and what is a good idea to have.

Let’s begin with the first: On most cruise lines and for most itineraries, a voyage that starts and ends at the same U.S. port and stays in the Western Hemisphere will not require any American citizen — child or adult — to have a passport.

These are called closed-loop cruises, and they only need proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate plus a government-issued photo ID, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection . For people under 16, a birth certificate will suffice. Popular cruise lines including Carnival , Royal Caribbean and Norwegian detail their requirements and any exceptions online.

A sailing that leaves from one U.S. port and ends at another — or starts in the United States and ends at a foreign destination — would not be classified as a closed-loop cruise. Everyone, including kids, would need a passport in that case.

There are some caveats, warns Teresa Tennant, senior vice president of the travel planning company Cruise Specialists . Some cruise companies, including Holland America Line and Princess Cruises , say that all members of a party must have a passport if minors are traveling with only one adult.

Some other cruise lines, such as the luxury Regent Seven Seas Cruises, require a passport for all sailings.

“It’s important to always check with the cruise line, because they can set their own rules that are actually above and beyond,” Tennant said.

Customs and Border Protection also urges travelers to check with their cruise company, travel agent and destination to confirm what’s required to enter foreign countries on an itinerary.

Whether or not you are required to have a passport, cruise lines and experts say it’s smart to have one before setting sail. The task isn’t quite as onerous as it used to be, now that wait times have returned to pre-pandemic norms of six to eight weeks for routine service and two to three weeks for the expedited process.

Cruise lines say they strongly recommend that passengers opt for the passport over other forms of identification.

“A passport is the hassle-free, gold standard for traveling between countries,” Royal Caribbean says on its website. “Boarding and disembarking through customs with a passport is usually faster than other types of ID documents.”

The U.S. State Department says travelers might need their passport “in the event of an unexpected medical evacuation or if the ship docks at an alternate port.” Travelers would also need their passports if they showed up late in a foreign port and the ship left without them — which has happened to some U.S. passengers recently.

“You should bring your passport even if your cruise says you won’t need it,” the State Department says on its information page for cruise ship passengers.

Colleen McDaniel, editor in chief of the news and review site Cruise Critic , said in an email that it would be much more difficult to get home without a passport if someone had to leave the ship.

“In such a case, you might have to rely on help from a U.S. embassy or consulate to return, which can take time,” she said.
