Excellent Island Tour
What a fun tour guide - Gail. She's a native of Nantucket and can tell you stories from her childhood days spent on the island. She knows everyone there it seems and fills you in on all of the interesting facts. Her mini-van is very comfortable, plenty of air conditioning and huge windows, making picture taking quite easy. We all really enjoyed this tour. She's fun and funny.
As all of the other reviews point out, Gail is really informative on anything having to do with the island of Nantucket. Since most people don't bring a car on Nantucket, especially during the off-season, this is one of the only ways to get a chance to see the whole island. Gail is really friendly and will take you around in her custom-made BMW van/mini-bus. So, if Gail is great, why did I take 2 stars off? Well, first -- Gail talks so fast, it's hard to take in and comprehend all of what she's telling you. If you happen to sit on the left-hand side of the bus, you won't be able to get very good pictures (most of the sights seemed to be on the right side) due to the angle of the seats and where the other passengers are sitting. In addition, she only makes a stop at the lighthouse for photos -- not the windmill. As a result, I totally missed a picture of the windmill. My biggest criticisms though were that Gail continuously answered her phone throughout our tour to take future reservations while she was driving and giving us our tour. I understand that she's a "one-woman" show, but really - can't she let them leave a voicemail and call the after the tour she's on is complete, or hire an answering service? It felt really intrusive and just plain rude. In addition, I appreciated restaurant recommendations, etc., but sometimes, I felt like it was an advertisement for these places. I would've preferred a little less of that and more on the history of the town or even more of an overview on what one could expect at the whaling museum. Overall, I just felt like the tour was a little rushed, and she was just more interested in filling up the empty slots of the day's future tours than ours. Still, I'm glad I went. I learned a lot, and I'm so glad I saw the island! Beautiful place. :-)
Gail's Tours of nantucket is a must for any visitor. Gail a 7th generation Nantucketer makes you feel an old family friend is showing you around. We 3 ( 1 from PA and 2 from the UK) took the tour on a rainy windy out of season day and enjoyed every minute. Gail blends Nantucket history, lore, highlights sights, talks about life on Nantucket, architecture, scenery, sights and ecology. She is knowledgable, informative, has a great personality and provides useful information whether your stay is for the day or longer. Excellent value for a two hour tour that covers all Nantucket and takes you through everyday Nantucket .
I searched the net and trip advisor for a tour of Nantucket. Nothing really came up as it was "off"season". So I kept at it. I found an article in the NY Times about this lady that was a 3rd generation tour guide. It sounded perfect for us. So I called Gail and we flew over to Nantucket from Martha's Vineyard for the day. Gail met us in the heart of downtown and the tour began. I don't think there is a house or family that she doesn't know the history of. We toured the whole island and she showed us where houses were actually being picked up and moved from cliffs due to erosioni. She told us the best places to go eat. Made sure we promised to go to the whaling museum that was open. There wasn't a thing that we asked that she couldn't answer. She was awesome and the history lesson was the best.

Great Tour for our Girls' Day in Nantucket. Apr 2024 • Friends. Highly recommend! We called Gail at to book as we were boarding the ferry at 8:45am. As it's slower at this time of year she was able to get us on her first tour of the day (with 4 other customers) and waited for our ferry to come in at about 10:10.
Gail's tours was recommended by the innkeepers where we stayed. I had also seen a few advertisements in local Nantucket publications voting her tours number 1. In our book it was not worth the time or money at $25pp. I would have been better off hiring a taxi for the $50 we spent, or taking another tour company. She seemed scattered and ...

The tour was only $40 each. Normally, we always over tip, but in this case, we felt the tour was fair, although could have been great with the history of the area. I could go on, but let me tell you out of all 8 of us that were traveling together, it was the worst tour that we had. BEWARE and have exact change.
