Campus Tours

Campus Tour

Tour Routes

All Tours will begin at Turner Hall and either ends back at Turner Hall, or if your group wants to eat on-campus, ends at STAMP Student Union or one of the Dining Halls. Exact routes will depend on construction.

If your group is interested in attending a specific event or exploring a specific campus building, please note that when you request your tour.

Visiting a campus academic building is a common request we receive from many groups. While we anticipate that groups will be able to visit one of our academic buildings, we cannot guarantee that all groups will visit an academic building. In order to ensure that we do not disrupt ongoing classes, tour guides will make a case-by-case decision about whether or not tour groups are able to visit an academic building.

To find more information about booking tours view the items below:

Tours for groups of elementary and/or middle school students are provided by the Welcome Desk student staff. The 60-minute tour highlights key campus locations and includes stops at iconic campus landmarks.

We are very limited in our availability for Group Tours for the Spring 2024 semester. If you are interested in a Tour for an Elementary or Middle School Group, please email [email protected] with your preferred dates/times and approximate number of students. We will do our best to accommodate your request, but due to our limited availability, we may not be able to. If we are unable to accommodate your request for a Guided Tour, Groups are encouraged to consider a Self-Guided Tour .

We can host Group Tours Monday-Friday and our last available date for tours in the Spring 2024 semester will be Thursday, May 9, 2024.

We will begin accepting requests for Summer 2024 Tours on Monday, June 3, 2024.

Tours for alumni and business groups are provided by the Welcome Desk student staff. Please note that this classification does not include groups in high school or college. For $25 per tour guide, our staff will provide your group a 60-minute tour highlighting key campus locations and includes stops at iconic campus landmarks. To schedule your tour, please contact the student tour manager by sending an email to  [email protected] .

We are excited by your enthusiasm to tour our campus! We kindly will refer individuals in this category to arrange tours through the  UMD Admissions Office .

Self-Guided tours are a fun and interactive way for your group to tour our campus. Although self-guided tours do not involve a tour guide, they present all of the same information as a guided tour through a scavenger hunt and is a fun way to learn about the University.

All groups interested in a self-guided tour should stop by the Welcome Desk when they arrive to campus. A Welcome Desk Associate will provide you with a map and Visitor Guide that includes information about campus.

Please consider viewing the Visitor Guide prior to your arrival.

To see more of the campus virtually, we encourage you to explore our Campus Web Map .

First Year New Student Orientation

Welcome to the university of maryland, college park.

We are excited that you’ve chosen University of Maryland, College Park (UMD) and look forward to working with you as you prepare to join the Terp Community! Our New Student Orientation (NSO) program aims to provide you information about campus resources and services that will assist you in a successful academic and social transition to the University.

What happens at New Student Orientation (NSO)?

No matter what type of New Student Orientation program you attend, you will have the opportunity to meet with faculty and staff, connect with your peers and upperclassmen, become familiar with campus resources, and register for classes for your first semester. Each program has time dedicated to academic advising, in which you will have the opportunity to discuss prior learning credits, transfer credits, degree requirements, and more.

Click on the different types of New Student Orientation programs below to learn more.

If students register for the two-day overnight NSO, they will spend the night in a traditional residence hall with a roommate, eat meals in a dining hall or the Stamp Student Union, visit the Eppley Recreation Center, explore essential campus spaces, and engage in fun community building activities.

** Overnight accommodations are not provided for family members or supporters. Only the student will stay overnight in the residence hall. College Park has many local hotels that welcome family members and supporters during NSO. The Office of Student Orientation and Transition does not affiliate with any specific hotels in the area. **

If students register for our one-day NSO, they will be guided by an Orientation Advisor to their academic advising session and have the opportunity to learn more about UMD from current students.

If students register for the online NSO, they can expect to meet and connect with an Orientation Advisor in the morning before their academic advising sessions. During this time, the OA will give the Terp Life presentation, which connects students to campus resources that will assist in a successful transition to UMD. Academic Advising colleges will welcome students with a Meet Your College presentation before they register for classes.

Online programs are typically reserved for our international or out of state students.

Now that you have learned about the different types of NSO programs, you can continue on to our First Year Registration & Schedules page. After registering for New Student Orientation, you should then begin to work on your  First Year To-Do List , which needs to be completed at least one week prior to your NSO program.

If you have more questions about what happens during NSO, logistics or requirements, please contact us at 301-314-8217 or [email protected]
