My wife and I have visited Thanjavur once a decade for fifty years. Until this visit we found accommodation in the town to be something between awful and barely tolerable. So what a marvel it was to discover Svatma. Not only was it such an astounding improvement over the past but compared to alll the other five and four star hotels we have visited across South India over the last two weeks, it is the absolutely best!! Inspired in design and brilliant in execution Svatma richly deserves its listing in Relais and Chateaux. We would love to meet someday the couple who have brought this miracle into being. We will return!!

Probably the best hotel in town in terms of the facility, cleanness, professional staff and food quality. The breakfast buffet included in the price of the room was plentiful and varied. There is a wide driveway that shelters the hotel from the busy street and makes you feel that you leave all the hassle behind. Convenient location for the train station, need to take a tuck tuck to visit the temple and royal palace.

Pros: Hotel Gnanam is a good mid-range hotel. The tariff is reasonable. The service is good. Staff is courteous and the front desk helps you will all the travel needs. The rooms and bathrooms are neat and clean. The breakfast spread is good and tasty. The location is also very good. It is just a short 5 min auto ride to the temple, railway station and the Royal Palace. Cons: The rooms closer to the front suffer from street noise. The rooms are probably a bit on the smaller side.

The hotel was hard to find, because the name in the signage is not the same as the name in the booking. Nonetheless, the Location is quite near to the temple and shopping areas. Basic facilities were provided. Just that we did not know hot water flask will not be provided in all hotels. I have good and bad experience with the staffs. I was travelling with my Grandma. She vomited and their cleaner just stood there watching me clean her vomit. She kept sighing and saying something in tamil. We stopped cleaning because her superior came in and told her to do it. She just pulled a sour face. My Grandma left her gold chain under the pillow case. The hotel staffs contacted me and told me her gold chain was left there. If only they did not tell us, we would not have remembered it. I am grateful for their honesty. I wished their cleaners were more proactive and the toilets were cleaned properly. This place has the capability to be a good place.

We five (55+ yrs: 2 & 35+ yrs: 3) stayed in this hotel between 03 Aug 2017 and 04 Aug 2017 (1 night). The hotel is located on Tanjore - Trichy main road around 6.0 Kms from city centre which is very easy to locate and easily accessible. It's around 5.0 kms from Brihadeeswara Temple. The hotel has a parking space in the basement for 5 cars and there is a security for assistance. The check-in was very simple and quick. The reception is in first floor as the restaurant is in Ground floor. We booked 2 "Deluxe" rooms they have offered the same. The rooms provided for us (got a big wooden cupboard, mini fridge, coffee table with two chairs) were found spacious, very clean, neat and well maintained. The rooms were quite and we had very sound sleep without any disturbance. The breakfast was complimentary (we expected a buffet, but it was not!) and we liked the food as the quality of the food was good. Service has to be improved here. We ordered dinner from room and the delivery was quick also the quality and taste were impressive. One night stay in this hotel was very good and we enjoyed our stay. We highly recommend this hotel for family & couples.

Super hotel and a real find considering its in Thanjavur! I thought everything was great The room is cool and difference, super comfy bed and huge bathroom. I've lived in India for over 8 1/2 years, travel constantly and have almost never been lucky enough to get a room with a bathtub. The staff really tries to make the stay there positive. Another reviewer had commented on the food taking a long time. Their solution to this appears to be asking the guests well in advance what they might like to order. Completely different feeling with you order food in advance and it arrives on time then waiting a while. I was there 2 nights and both dinners were delicious (especially Chettinad vegetables) and they did a great job with presentation. The room service dual were really sweet. Its across the road an a couple of buildings down from the Thanjavur Palace, just a 5 minutes walk.

We reached there around 7pm , when showed booking confirmation page to hotel staff , they are not sure to accept my confirmation that I have paid entire amount for 2 rooms including extra bed , after few explanation they gave me the access card to the rooms , the rooms were in good standard , but no exhaust fan or proper ventilation in bath rooms that creates some odours, atleast they might have kept a freshner , any way after drive of 450km we didn't think of it after we slept well , next day morning the reception guy was changed , when I enquirerd about breakfast he said break fast from Annapoorna hotel near by will be delivered either room or we provide token you can dine , I chose second , after visiting the big temple around 9am we reached the hotel , hotel is not an high end , it's a non ac but foods provided are upto the standard , with one big vada, kal dosa,idli, one small cup pongal, all together realy worth for the money spent on booking for 5 , really there is no need for extrA bed since bed in the room is large enough to have three

Ther are too many places for me to indicate but the temples and religious places is a must see as they were built by ancestors many years ago and are rather huge to the ones i compare with in my country.

Thanjavur is world famous place because of its traditional lifestyle and also it has a great history background.

The 'Big Temple' is a big example of its historical background,this temple is built by Raja raja cholan.Thanjavur is called the RICE BOWEL OF TAMILNADU.

I only stay for a few days but I'd recommend to visit the Thanjavur Temple and try out the local food

Well thanjavur has a lots of history , with the very famous Big temple and people who like art would love the place .

The rice bowl of Tamil Nadu, Thanjavur is located in the delta of the Cauvery River and is one of the largest paddy cultivation areas in South India. River Cauvery is the main source of irrigation for cultivation in the district which lies on the southeastern side of the state.  The district was once the stronghold of the historic Cholas and at one time it was also the capital of the Cholas, Mutharayars and Marathas when they were at the peak of their power. Since then, Thanjavur has been the centre of the political, cultural and religious sphere of South India. The pursuits of these rulers are reflected in the great monuments like Grand Anaicut, Big Temple and Sarofoji Mahal, Palace and Saraswathi Mahal Library, etc. in the district.  The district is famous for its exquisite ancient handicrafts-making of bronze icons, art plates, bell-metal castings, bowls, napkin and powder boxes, and engraving work of motifs. The making of pith-work, ornamental fans, mats and musical instruments are also famous in the region. The district is a flourishing centre of handloom silk and cotton sarees.
