Dubai travel restrictions: rules for travelling from the UK

By Abigail Malbon and Becky Lucas

Dubai

Travel to Dubai was off limits for most of 2021. But in early August, the destination was finally  opened up to UK residents. Here’s what you need to know about heading there, and back to the UK.

What are Dubai's travel restrictions?

Dubai is open to travellers from the UK, and those who are fully vaccinated, or are under 12 years old or who have severe disabilities, do not need to show proof of a negative Covid test before entry. Travellers with a Covid-19 recovery certificate with a QR code dated within 30 days of departure also do not have to take a test.

However, those who are not fully vaccinated must still take a PCR test before arrival. The RT-PCR test certificate must be in printed or digital format in English or Arabic – SMS certificates are not valid. It must include a QR code and show that the test was taken in an authorised facility. Certificates in other languages must be validated, and those that have been presented for previous journeys are not permitted.

Some fully vaccinated travellers may also be randomly selected to take a Covid-19 PCR test on arrival and will have to isolate pending the result of the COVID-19 PCR test. (When we personally visited in January 2022, we were asked to take a PCR test upon arrival at Dubai Airport, and were then able to go to our hotel where we received a text later that day confirming our results were negative.)

Visitors to Dubai must have valid international health insurance before travelling, and will need to register their details on the Covid-19 DXB Smart App .

Fully vaccinated travellers, as well as those who are not fully vaccinated, from the UK to Abu Dhabi will be required to have a PCR test on arrival but will not be required to quarantine. Entry requirements for Abu Dhabi and the rest of the United Arab Emirates may differ, so it's best to check the UAE government website directly for information on those emirates before travelling within the country.

Do I need a Covid vaccine to travel to Dubai?

No, although you will need to take a PCR test before travelling to Dubai if you are not fully vaccinated. The exceptions to this rule are children under 12, those with severe disabilities and anyone who has a recovery certificate with a QR code dated within 30 days of departure.

Do tourists have to quarantine in Dubai?

Travellers may be required to take a PCR test on arrival in Dubai depending on which country you are arriving from – check the Emirates Airline website for the latest list . You may also be chosen to do a random PCR test on arrival, wherever you are coming from. If you are requested to take a PCR test, you may have to quarantine until the results are confirmed (although, as mentioned, in January 2022, we were asked to take a further test at Dubai Airport but were not asked to quarantine until the result was confirmed).

If the result is positive, you will need to isolate for 10 days, usually at a private address if suitable, or a hotel, hospital or government facility – ‘depending on your symptoms and your accommodation plans’, according to the UK government website .

What are the rules for Brits returning to the UK from Dubai?

From 4am on Friday 18 March 2022 all travel rules in the UK will be lifted, meaning no travellers need to test, quarantine or fill in a passenger locator form, regardless of their vaccination status.

Will travel to Dubai be restricted again?

It’s impossible to know what will happen in future as the Covid pandemic continues around the world. For now, if you're planning a trip, it's best to check the government website regularly to ensure you’re up-to-date with the latest news. We also recommend booking with a flexible flight and travel policy and investing in travel insurance with Covid cover for extra peace of mind.

UAE travel advice: is it safe to travel to Dubai right now?

Everything you need to know about travel to the country, including foreign office advice and adverse weather.

The Dubai skyline with the Burj Khalifa at dawn

T he United Arab Emirates is home to the two most popular Middle Eastern tourist destinations, Dubai and Abu Dhabi, which have dazzling cities, vast deserts and gorgeous beaches. In Dubai, you can see the world’s tallest skyscraper, resort hotels that compete in extravagance and dinky wooden boats that still ply the creek. Abu Dhabi, while smaller and less glitzy, has thrilling theme parks and stunning architecture. Just inland lies the desert from which all of this sprang — providing visitors with a sense of life in the tented camps of pre-oil days.

The country is considered safe to travel to, and most visits are trouble-free — but, as with anywhere, there are a few things for tourists to think about.

On March 25, the Foreign Office updated its travel advice for the UAE to reflect a change in the terror threat level in the country. While it’s still considered safe to travel to, the terror threat level is now considered high, with travellers warned to “remain vigilant at all times”.

Meanwhile, more storms are expected in Dubai. Authorities have been preparing infrastructure for the adverse weather, which is expected to be less severe than the rains of April 2024. Last month, unprecedented weather caused flooding in the emirate, as 18 months’ worth of rain fell in just a day, disrupting operations at Dubai airport and stranding thousands.

If you’re travelling to Dubai soon, here’s what you need to know.

What’s the latest advice about travelling to the uae.

A fountain show in Dubai

The Foreign Office does not advise against travelling to the UAE. However, on March 25, its travel advice for the Middle Eastern country was updated to reflect a change in the terror threat levels in the country.

It said: “There is a high threat of terrorist attack globally affecting UK interests and British nationals, including from groups and individuals who view the UK and British nationals as targets. You should remain vigilant at all times.”

Regarding the UAE in particular, the Foreign Office said: “Terrorists continue to issue statements threatening to carry out attacks in the Gulf region. These include references to attacks on Western interests, including against UK citizens.”

It said that possible targets may include hotels, beaches, restaurants and shopping centres.

In addition, the Foreign Office has warned that the situation in the UAE could change at short notice following the joint strikes by US and UK forces on Houthi bases in Yemen since January 2024. It said: “Military activity is currently under way in response to attempts by Houthi militants to prevent movement of international shipping in the Red Sea. While the area of activity is limited to the Red Sea and Yemen, there is a possibility that travel advice for nearby countries could change at short notice. You should continue to monitor travel advice and follow any relevant instructions from local authorities.”

Has Dubai been affected by the Israel-Hamas conflict?

Dubai , Abu Dhabi and the rest of the United Arab Emirates are not affected by the conflict between Israel and Hamas.

Here’s what you need to know about the travel advice for neighbouring countries

• Is it safe to travel to Israel right now? • Is it safe to travel to Turkey right now? • Is it safe to travel to Egypt right now? • Is it safe to travel to Cyprus right now? • Is it safe to travel to Jordan right now?

What is causing the floods in Dubai?

Scientists have noted that the April 2024 flash flooding in Dubai was exacerbated by climate change. Cloud seeding, a practice which involves shooting particles of silver iodide into the sky to encourage rainfall, has been ruled out as a cause.

In April, there was widespread disruption after 18 months’ worth of rain fell in a single day, causing flights to be diverted and cancelled, and cars to be submerged.

There are further storms expected this week, and authorities closed schools, nurseries and universities until Friday, May 3, and made sure roads are equipped to deal with the rain (it can make the roads very slippery).

There’s no reason, beyond a delayed or cancelled flight, to avoid travelling because of the weather. That said, in a city where the beach and the pool are big draws, you may have to rethink your holiday activities if the weather doesn’t clear up.

Are flights still going to Dubai?

A handful of flights in and out of Dubai airport have been diverted and some cancelled — but not on a grand scale. Dubai airport advises passengers to check the status of their flight with the airline, to travel to the airport using the metro if possible and to allow extra time.

Can I travel to Dubai without a visa?

Tourist visas are issued to British passport holders on arrival in Dubai so there’s no need to apply in advance. The visa will be a stamp applied by immigration officials in your passport. The tourist visa is free and lasts for 30 days.

If you’ve been to Israel in the past and there’s evidence of this in your passport, you can enter the UAE as normal, as long as you don’t intend to do any work. However, if you are planning to work, you may be subject to further checks and entry may be denied.

Can you drink in Dubai?

The bar at restaurant Pierchic, Jumeirah Al Qasr

Visitors and residents can drink at home and in licensed venues such as hotels, restaurants and clubs. Visitors will need a liquor licence to buy alcohol from the two shops that sell alcohol in Dubai; they can obtain the licence with their passport and entry stamp.

Is Dubai safe for LGBT travellers?

Same-sex activities are illegal in the UAE and same-sex marriages are not recognised in the country. There have been reports of punishment for same-sex activities, particularly where they have caused offence or there’s a public element. The Foreign Office says that the “UAE is in many respects a tolerant society and private life is respected”.

What should I wear in Dubai?

Clothes should cover the top of the arms and legs, with no underwear or swimwear showing

Women should dress modestly when in public, in areas such as shopping malls and parks. This means that clothes should cover the top of the arms and legs, and no underwear or swimwear should be on show. It helps to take a scarf or shawl to cover your shoulders when you need to, for example at religious sites. Swimwear is acceptable if you’re at the beach or a swimming pool.

Since the start of the pandemic, countries have changed their travel rules on an almost monthly basis, meaning passengers frequently have to alter their plans.

After several changes to the amber and red lists over the summer, British politicians are suggesting that the rules for flying into the UK from the UAE could be revised again.

This could make it easier for UAE residents and Emiratis to visit Britain.

Travelling from the UAE to the UK

At present, travellers from the UAE must quarantine on arrival in the UK. AFP

At present, people who received their Covid-19 vaccinations in the UK are not required to quarantine if they travel from the UAE to the UK. They need only take a Covid-19 test before they leave the UAE, and again on or before day two after arrival.

However, because the UAE is on the amber List , residents and Emiratis arriving in the UK are required to quarantine at home or in the place where they are staying for 10 nights, with the first day counting as zero.

They must also take Covid-19 tests before they leave the UAE, and again on day two and day eight in the UK. If they want early release from quarantine, they can take a test on day five, under the Test to Release scheme .

James Cleverly, Britain's Minister for Middle East and North Africa, on Saturday said the UK was "finalising arrangements" to include UAE citizens and residents in its plans to allow those fully vaccinated travellers in other countries to visit the UK without needing to quarantine from October 4.

People travelling in the opposite direction – from the UK to the UAE – have two sets of rules to consider, according to which emirate they are visiting.

What are Dubai's entry rules for travel from the UK?

Tourists arrive at Dubai International Airport. Photo: AFP

Dubai does not require visitors from the UK to be vaccinated. On check-in, they are required only to show the result of a negative PCR test taken no more than 96 hours before departure , although Emirates airline requires the test to have been taken within 72 hours.

No other types of Covid-19 test are accepted, including antibody tests or home testing kits. Certificates must have been issued by an authorised facility in the passenger's departure country.

Passengers can either use recommended laboratories , or any trusted and certified laboratories in the UK to take a PCR test. National Health Service Covid test certificates are not accepted for travel from the UK.

Travellers must bring an official printed or digital certificate in English or Arabic to check in – SMS certificates are not accepted.

Children under 12 and passengers who have a moderate or severe disability are exempt from the testing requirement.

UAE citizens are also exempt from testing before they leave for Dubai, but they are required to get a Covid-19 test on arrival in the emirate.

Once passengers arrive there is no need for further tests or quarantine, unless they recently travelled to certain countries before boarding a flight in the UK.

Transit passengers may face further testing.

What are Abu Dhabi's rules for travel from the UK?

People travelling from the UK to Abu Dhabi are not required to quarantine if they are fully vaccinated .

However, travellers who are not vaccinated must quarantine for 10 days because the UK is still on Abu Dhabi's red list .

To be fully vaccinated, you must have received two doses of the same vaccine, or one dose of Janssen, at least 14 days before departure.

These should be one of the following vaccinations: AstraZeneca (Vaxzevria), AstraZeneca (SK Bioscience Co Ltd. from Korea), Covishield, Janssen, Moderna, Pfizer-BioNTech (Comirnaty), Sinopharm or Sputnik V.

All travellers, regardless of their vaccination status, must also show the result of a negative PCR test taken no more than 48 hours before departure.

The certificate may be printed, or passengers can present the lab report digitally for validation at the airport.

Passengers must also download Al Hosn app before they board the flight. The app is used for tracing Covid-19 cases, and as digital evidence of negative PCR results and vaccination.

Travellers must also register with the ICA Smart Travel Service . This applies to adults and children or infants. It also applies if you are travelling to Dubai or another emirate.

On arrival in Abu Dhabi , vaccinated travellers from the UK are required to take a Covid-19 test. They will also need to take PCR tests on day four and day eight if they remain in the emirate.

Non-vaccinated travellers from the UK are required to quarantine at a home or in their hotel room for 10 days, and take a Covid-19 test on arrival and on day nine. They are not required to wear a tracker wristband , unless they test positive for the coronavirus.

The tests in the airport are free, and Dh50 everywhere else in Abu Dhabi .

Children under 12 and people with severe and moderate disabilities do not need to take a PCR test before they fly.

On arrival, anyone under the age of 16 is exempt from the vaccination and testing requirements listed above.

With year-round sunshine and just a few days of annual rainfall , it’s no wonder Dubai is such a hit with British holidaymakers – 1.2 million Britons visited in 2019.

After ending lockdown in 2020, Dubai reopened its borders to visitors with tourist visas being issued again as of July last year.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) briefly became one of the few destinations on the UK government’s travel corridors list , meaning British visitors would not need to self-isolate on their return, in November last year.

But its quarantine-free status was lost from 4am on 12 January , in response to what British government sources called "a significant acceleration" in infections being imported to the UK from Dubai.

At the end of January 2021, the UAE was placed on the UK’s “red list” of countries, meaning flights are banned from the country after 1pm on 29 January.

Here’s what you need to know.

Am I allowed to travel to Dubai from the UK?

In short, no. After 1pm on 29 January, there are no direct flights between England, Scotland and Wales and the UAE after the Gulf nation was placed on the UK’s “red list” of countries.

From 4am on 30 January, all flights between Northern Ireland and the UAE are banned.

Anybody wishing to travel to the UAE will have to go via a third country.

Regardless, Dubai, and the rest of the UAE, is currently on the Foreign Office’s (FCDO) no-go list. The government warns against “all but essential travel to the UAE, based on the current assessment of Covid-19 risks”.

Anyone going there with a standard travel insurance policy will find it is invalidated.

International travel for all but the most essential purposes is currently banned under UK law.

England entered a national lockdown on 5 January, which is expected to last until at least March. An end date has not been confirmed yet, but will be reviewed on 19 February and will be partly based on how well the vaccine roll out has progressed. During this time, international travel should only be for essential reasons such as work.

Scotland also entered lockdown on 5 January with restrictions, applicable to areas that were previously in level 4, expected to last until the end of January. International travel is illegal unless for an essential reason.

Wales has been in lockdown with level 4 restrictions in place since 20 December 2020. This is currently scheduled to end on 31 January 2021. Travel of any kind, including abroad, should only be for essential reasons.

Northern Ireland entered lockdown on Boxing Day. It has been extended to 6 March. Travel, international or otherwise, should only be for essential reasons during this time.

How can I get to Dubai?

In normal times, British Airways and Emirates operate direct flights from the UK to Dubai. BA serves Heathrow airport. This is the main gateway for Emirates, which also serves Birmingham, Manchester and Glasgow from Dubai.

  • The passports restoring the freedom to travel that Brexit takes away

Right now, direct flights from the UK to the UAE are banned.

The only way to get there is to fly via a third hub, such as Doha in Qatar, Paris, Amsterdam or Istanbul.

Will they let me in when I arrive?

Different emirates in the UAE have different entry requirements so make sure you double check if you’re flying into another emirate to reach Dubai.

Dubai’s borders are open.

From 31 January, visitors will be required to present a negative PCR test certificate on arrival, taken no longer than 72 hours before departure. The option of a free Covid-19 test on arrival is no longer available.

In addition, visitors must have international health insurance before travelling.

Your passport should also be valid for a minimum period of six months from the date of entry into the UAE.

Do I need to take a PCR swab test for Covid?

Yes. From 31 January, visitors from the UK and most other European countries must present a negative PCR test certificate on arrival. It must be a PCR swab test and other tests, including antibody test, are not accepted. The test must have been taken 72 hours before departure.

  • What it’s like to visit Dubai after Covid

Those taking a test before they travel are required to show printed negative results on their arrival.

Additional testing may be required at Dubai airport and those who test positive in Dubai will be required to self-isolate in a government-mandated facility on their own expense.

All visitors to Dubai must adhere to public health measures issued by the Dubai authorities, including any requirements to quarantine.

Further details of the restrictions can be found here .

Other emirates have different rules and restrictions, so make sure you double check if you’re planning to go elsewhere.

Will I have to quarantine when I arrive?

Not if you present a negative PCR test certificate on arrival. However, you may be required to quarantine if you test positive in an additional test at Dubai airport.

Dubai’s national carriers, Emirates and FlyDubai, both include coronavirus cover as part of the ticket prices. In this case, your quarantine expenses will be covered by the airline.

Otherwise no.

Will I have to quarantine when I come home?

Yes. The UAE is currently on the UK’s “red list” of countries, for which the government is expected to introduce mandatory hotel quarantine.

However, hotel quarantine for Brits returning from these destinations has not come into effect yet.

Transport Secretary Grant Shapps tweeted: “This means people who have been in or transited through these countries will be denied entry, except British, Irish and third country nationals with residence rights who must self-isolate for 10 days at HOME.”

It is unclear when hotel quarantines will be implemented for arrivals from these countries.

What about the rest of the UAE?

There are additional restrictions in place.

Abu Dhabi, for example, is requiring all visitors to quarantine for 10 days on arrival, wearing a government wristband. They also need to show a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours of departure, and take another test on arrival. Further tests may be required based on the length of their stay. The emirate started to issue tourist visas on 24 December 2020.

Are hotels open?

Yes, hotels opened in Dubai in May 2020 with social distancing regulations in place, such as socially distanced sunbeds.

Are restaurants, shops and attractions open?

Most shops, restaurants and attractions have now reopened. Major shopping malls, such as the Dubai Mall, Mall of the Emirates and the Dubai Outlet Mall reopened in April 2020.

Public and private hotel beaches, major parks, cinemas, museums and top attractions such as Atlantis Aquaventure and The Green Planet are all open.

If you’re travelling for an event, the FCDO has advised that you should check with the organisers whether it’s still happening – some events have restarted, however.

Since 2021, some live entertainment has been cancelled to limit the spread of Covid-19.

What rules are in place?

Face masks are mandatory everywhere outside your hotel room, even on the beach. You can however take off your mask for eating, drinking, swimming and exercising.

Failure to wear a face mask carries a AED3,000 (£650) fine, with the same amount applicable for anyone not adhering to social distancing guidelines of two metres.

There may also be temperature checks in place at restaurants and other indoor venues.

Much care is needed when travelling during Ramadan or when visiting religious places. There could be some profound consequences to face for certain actions that might not be regarded as illegal in the UK. Educate yourself with these and respect these customs and laws for a trouble-free trip to Dubai.

Ramadan in 2021 is expected to begin on April 12, Monday and finish on May 11, Tuesday. See Travelling during Ramadan

Top 5 airlines flying to dubai.

The IFE was unstable the entire flight seats are very dated for business class and meals were not good.

Flight was delayed and no information was provided what was new time Change gate 3 times at Madina airport First gate was 113 Second gate was 204 And last gate was 113 again

Emirates is always great experience, however, they should reopen their lounge in Istanbul. The IGA lounge is not worth it

I liked everything accept the delay try to improve in that area

Same problem with very poor food. Gluten free options can taste great, there is not reason to be give suboptimal meals in this situation.

Flights were both delayed. No luggage on arrival for the whole plane and no contact since submitting a PIR.

Flight got canceled without any prior information and it caused lot of trouble

Nice selection of movies and TV shows. Plane was generally nice, not the newest but nice nonetheless. However, Emirates should have cancelled the flight, as hardly any flights flew out of Dubai at the time. Flight delays and cancellation was poorly communicated and passengers were left guessing and to their own devices on what to do. Connection desks were staffed too thinly, there was one desk with more than a hundred clients and just one poor lady. When I had my flights rebooked, I was told meal vouchers can be scanned using my boarding pass, nope. Was told to comeback for my hotel voucher, none. Had to book my hotel voucher the usual way through Dubai Connect despite having been told twice to comeback to the counters twice.

On the Dubai-Gatwick flight the only meal options were Beef or Chicken. No vegetarian option. This was a surprise. I would usually order in advance but did not this time. Would have been good to know that a vegetarian meal is not available as a standard meal. Thankfully it was just me travelling, but if I’d had my kids with me that would have been a big problem for us.

My Experience was ok. But the gentleman next to me vaped the whole flight and the attendants did nothing, whether they were aware, I’m not sure.

Very friendly and efficient staff. Would definitely fly Saudia again.

Entertainment on all 4 business class seats were terrible audio and could barley hear. The 11 hour layover in Riyadh was a nightmare and no one told us that nightmare matter what we do or what we were willing to pay there were no places to rest or sleep and nine of the lounges allow you to enter them no matter what unless you are 4 hours or less from flight time. With a 78 yearold mother with me this is ridiculous. The employees of the airline in Riyadh and of the lounge treated us like servants or lower class people. Never again

I wonder why checking carry on bags while the checking process was done by Moroccan security. Is it question of trust or Morocco security system is not qualified enough?

Food could be better. Bread should be warm served with butter. Bread quality is bad and cold served.

The seats’ reclined like premium economy seats, ie, not much.. but leg space was a lot l, so it did not feel cramped. Crew was very friendly and helpful.

Route from DC was ok nothing special or bad From Jeddah to cairo horrible First flight got delayed by 3 hours no explanation so what ever Arrived in cairo to find lock on my bag Saudia crew in cairo didn’t know who did could not open had to break my bag zipper to open my luggage

Since it leaves at 2:00am you sleep through most of it.

Flight was delayed, but there was no explanation why. Seats were comfortable and service was good. Food was good and there were more snacks than I expected.

The best way to fly is saudia airlines flight Every thing is better (Number one 🫶) Thank you

The menu options in business class were few and the crew kept running out of the desired options! So what seemed like 4 options for meals turned out to be just one option! The entertainment system had very few movie selections for Hollywood and Bollywood movies. The audio in the headphones was poor as it was difficult to follow the dialogues; my fellow travelers had similar complaints.

Food could have been better Entertainment was absent even in Business Class

I like it very much. Gulf Air is always the topper rank of the world. I love it very much.

The drinks should come before food. Unable to have any fluid unless after food. Thanks

Gulfair were on top form and everything went as planned

The entertainment on board was really poor. The map doesn’t give enough information and the movies have arabic subtitles, you can’t choose. The stuff wasn’t very friendly and the breakfast really poor. The food must not be spicy! They didn’t have enough drinks.

Aereo nuovissimo e con tanti servizi malgrado la durata del volo Spazio per le gambe ridottk

It was a great experience, can’t wait to do it again soon!!

Aircraft was new and comfertable .on time. Cabin crews, which I got english language pronounce was very difficult to understand .ovee all ok flight

The boarding at Heathrow is chaotic. That's partly due to the lack of space and seating at gate 8, and a Qatar flight from gate 9 at the same time. That's down to Heathrow rather than Gulf Air. I've had a similar experience here before. Another problem which isn't specific to Gulf Air or Heathrow is announcements, and those for boarding in particular. They are difficult to hear with all the other noise and for me with hearing problems it's even worse. A simple tv screen would help, so long as it's updated of course.

This itineray had to be cancelled as the connection time in Paris was only 55 min which is below the 90 min required by Paris airport. Nether Chat deal/Kayak, nor Gulf air nor American Air picked on that. I called American Air for unrelated question was then told that boarding would be denied due to the short connection time. This should have been an automatic notification from Chat deal/ Kayak or Gulf air and itinery cancelled. What is the point of inconveniencing the passenger?? The return has still not be refunded. Shame on Gulf Air, very poor customer service for an airline that has so good flight crew!

Pegasus is not a very comfortable airline. They’re not in any way hospitable

It was like moving cattle around. Very abrupt, uncomfortable and not much hospitality

All good but air not give the pasing er any food even glase of water

Flight delayed by 1hr when we already boarded because someone had to get off. Leg room is terrible for 6ft people like me.

I used the airline 5-6 times for the last year and every flight have had perfect timing and I like it. Despite catastrophic absence of space for my legs 😁

The crew was utterly non helping and non courteous.I asked for a water. The air hostess could have said it's paid . She informed me that I will come later after serving but never turned up. The seats were never comfortable. My first and last flight with Pegasus.I am not taking again

The plane left Istanbul 1 hour late and the AC was not really working great it was so hot inside and no air. This was my worst flight in a long time since I had a flight with Ryanair.

Cheap and cheerful. It’s a super cheap, no frills flight. Very professional and as it’s an A320 relatively spacious. Seats do not recline. Happy with the service. You get what you pay for. Can’t complain

I had 4 flights for less than a week and there were no delays and issues. Thanks to the crews and for perfectly organised service.

There is no usb for charging the phone you should provide the water

We were told to check our bags at the last minute, and the communication was poor.

Lost our luggage in Heathrow. Showed up 3 days into a 7 day vacation. Very inconvenient and disappointing!!

My luggage never arrived to Zurich. They can't confirm when it will arrive

Late again. 3 out of 4 late. One cancelled flight and one lost bag.

Charged an extra 65 pounds for overweight suitcase, Not told how much overweight but had no choice but to pay the price. Compare to Delta Airlines where I flew internationally a few days before with this suitcase and no extra charge by Delta. Comfort was horrible. I am just under 6 feet tall, and good that the flight was only 1 1/2 hours, because my knees were in the seat back in front of me the whole flight. I felt that my knees were part way up to my chest. No reason to have the seats that close. I will say to the positive was the flight crew, very friendly and efficient.

The flight was delayed as they were waiting on catering. Catering. Was eventually delivered but they still had no food. No meals for us in business class - just a bag of nuts.

Our luggage is missing. We are at the Hotel Gran Via in Barcelona

Air hostess delayed providing food and then pulled away the tray before i finished eating

my original flight was cancelled the previous day, and i was rescheduled onto this flight, which left much earlier in the morning, impacting my previous evening and requiring me to get up much earlier in the morning to get to the airport online. This practice happens way way way too much, and it seems on every airline, though AA is probably the worst.

The flight was on time and the crew very professional. Everything went as expected and I will use BA again for this trip.

UK Visa Requirements for UAE Residents

UK visa

Residents of the United Arab Emirates must confirm that they fit the conditions before applying for a UK visa. These specifications might change based on the kind of visa they’re requesting. Ordinarily, a regular visitor visa is needed for UAE nationals who intend to visit the UK for a brief period. With this visa, travellers can spend up to six months in the UK for pleasure, business, or family travel. UAE citizens who want to visit the UK must fulfill the following requirements:

A valid passport is needed to enter the UK. This guarantees adherence to immigration laws and promotes easy entry into the nation. To prevent any problems during the visa application process and travel, it is imperative to confirm the passport’s expiration date in advance.

One of the most important steps in the visa application process is scheduling an appointment at the Visa Application Centre. That is for identity verification and biometric data. Moreover, it is a required procedure that requires you to show up in person. Thus, the Visa Application Centre will be the location where your picture and fingerprints are taken. A digital scanner will gather your photos and all ten fingerprints, and your documents will be checked to verify your identification.

Visa Application Form

One of the most important steps in the visa application procedure is accurately and truthfully filling out the online form. Giving accurate information reduces the possibility of delays or rejections and guarantees that the application is completed quickly. Before submitting, applicants must carefully go over each section of the form and confirm that all the information they supplied is correct.

Proof of Accommodation

This means you will need evidence proving your intended UK lodging location. The following evidence of accommodations examples will suffice:

  • Hotel reservation.
  • An invitation from the host.
  • A confirmation from a tour operator.
  • A rental agreement or contract.

Providing proof of lodging arrangements made in the UK is necessary to have your visa application approved. These might include rental contracts, hotel reservations, or an invitation letter from a UK-based host. Verifiable housing information reassures immigration officials that the applicant will have appropriate housing during their visit.

Financial Means

What this means is that you should provide bank statements or evidence of income. This is to demonstrate that you have enough money to support yourself while living in the UK. Thus, this can include a letter from your work. So, if you are travelling from Dubai for instance, make sure you get your bank account in the UAE ready along with a visa card.

Applicants must show proof that they have enough money to pay for their journey to the UK. Moreover, it is proof they won’t need to use public funds while they’re there. Giving specific proof of financial resources bolsters the application for a visa and shows the applicant can sustain while in the UK. In addition, you will also need proof of employment as well as educational status.

Previous Travel History

UAE passport

During the visa application procedure, applicants must reveal their prior trip itinerary. This includes disclosing details regarding previous international trips and compliance with visa procedures. Providing precise and thorough information regarding prior travel experiences aids immigration authorities in evaluating the applicant’s general reliability. It also aids compliance with immigration laws and travel habits. It is necessary to fully disclose any prior travel history in order to prevent any problems with the visa application procedure.

Legal Residence Proof

Lastly, you must provide documentation proving your lawful presence in the UAE. This is the case if you are not a citizen of the UAE.

Dubai and London are two major international cities situated in different parts of the world. While Dubai is located in the United Arab Emirates in the Middle East, London is the capital city of the United Kingdom in Europe. The distance between these two cities is considerable, and traveling from Dubai to London involves a long journey.

By air, the distance between Dubai and London is approximately 5,500 kilometers (3,400 miles). This distance can vary slightly depending on the flight route and other factors. The easiest and most convenient way to travel between these two cities is by air. Several airlines offer direct flights between Dubai and London, which significantly reduces the travel time.

The duration of a direct flight from Dubai to London typically ranges from 7 to 8 hours. However, the actual travel time may vary depending on factors such as wind speed, flight path, and airport congestion. It is essential to check the specific flight schedule and duration for the chosen airline before making any travel plans.

Apart from direct flights, there are also indirect flights available with layovers in other cities. These flights can sometimes be cheaper than direct flights, but they usually have longer travel times due to the layovers. The total travel time for an indirect flight can range anywhere from 10 to 16 hours or even more, depending on the duration of the layover.

It is important to note that the travel time mentioned above refers to the time spent in the air and does not include additional factors such as check-in, security screening, boarding, and potential delays. It is advisable to arrive at the airport well in advance to complete all necessary procedures and avoid any last-minute rush.

While air travel is the most efficient and popular mode of transportation between Dubai and London, there are also other options to consider. For those who prefer a more adventurous and scenic journey, a road trip is possible. However, it is important to note that this option involves a significantly longer travel time.

The driving distance between Dubai and London is approximately 7,000 kilometers (4,350 miles), and the estimated travel time is around 70 to 80 hours, depending on the route, traffic conditions, and the number of breaks taken during the journey. This option requires careful planning, taking into account visa requirements, road conditions, and accommodation arrangements.

In conclusion, the distance between Dubai and London is quite substantial, requiring a long journey regardless of the chosen mode of transportation. Air travel is the most common and convenient option, with direct flights taking approximately 7 to 8 hours. Indirect flights with layovers can have longer travel times. For those who prefer a road trip, it is essential to consider the extensive travel distance and plan accordingly.

Are you planning a trip from Dubai to London and wondering how long it will take to reach your destination? The flying time from Dubai to London can vary depending on a few factors including the route, weather conditions, and the type of aircraft being used. In this blog post, we will break down these factors and provide an estimate of the travel duration.

Distance between Dubai and London:

Dubai and London are located approximately 5,366 kilometers (3,330 miles) apart. This long-distance journey requires a flight to cover the distance quickly and efficiently.

Direct Flights:

The fastest way to reach London from Dubai is by taking a direct flight. Direct flights are non-stop and have the shortest travel duration. On average, the flying time for a direct flight from Dubai to London is around 7 to 8 hours.

Connecting Flights:

If you cannot find a direct flight or prefer to take a connecting flight, keep in mind that the travel duration will be longer. Connecting flights usually involve a layover at a specific airport before catching the next flight to your destination. The duration of the layover can vary, but it is advisable to choose a layover time that allows for smooth transfer without rushing.

Airlines and Aircraft:

Different airlines operate flights between Dubai and London, using various types of aircraft. The type of aircraft can affect the travel duration, as some planes are faster and more efficient than others. Generally, larger planes with higher cruising speeds, such as the Airbus A380 or Boeing 777, may offer a faster travel time compared to smaller regional aircraft.

Weather Conditions and Air Traffic:

Weather conditions and air traffic can have an impact on flight duration. Adverse weather conditions, such as strong winds or thunderstorms, can cause delays or require pilots to take longer routes to avoid turbulence. Similarly, heavy air traffic can also lead to longer travel times due to congestion at airports or in the sky.

Booking Factors:

Booking your flight well in advance can give you more options and better chances of securing direct flights or flights with shorter layovers. It's also worth considering the time of day when booking your flight. For example, red-eye flights that depart late at night or early in the morning may have less air traffic and shorter travel durations.

In conclusion, the flying time from Dubai to London is estimated to be around 7 to 8 hours for direct flights. However, it's important to consider the factors mentioned above, as they can affect the travel duration. Check with airlines for the most up-to-date flight schedules, and plan your trip accordingly. Safe travels!

If you're one of those daring souls, here's a guide to the driving distance from Dubai to London and the various road trip options you can consider.

You can either cross through Greece and Italy and take a ferry to the UK or drive through Bulgaria, Serbia, Croatia, and Slovenia before entering Austria, Germany, and finally, France, where you can cross the English Channel by ferry or via the Eurotunnel. This route offers a diverse cultural experience and allows you to explore famous landmarks such as Petra in Jordan and historical sites in Europe.

The Middle East and North Africa route:

This alternative route takes you through the Arabian Peninsula, but instead of traveling through Syria, you'll continue directly to Egypt and cross into North Africa. From there, you can drive through Libya, Tunisia, Algeria, and Morocco before crossing the Strait of Gibraltar to reach Spain. Once in Spain, you can make your way to France and continue as described in the previous route. This option allows you to experience the vibrant cultures of the Middle East and North Africa while also enjoying the scenic landscapes of the Mediterranean.

The European route:

If you prefer to minimize your time spent driving in Asia and the Middle East, you can choose to start your journey in Turkey and follow a northern route through Central and Eastern Europe. This route takes you through Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Austria, Germany, and finally, France, where you can again take a ferry or use the Eurotunnel to cross the English Channel. This option provides the opportunity to explore the rich history and architectural wonders of Europe.

It's essential to note that these road trips require thorough planning, research, and logistical considerations. Make sure to check visa requirements, road conditions, and safety advisories for each country you intend to drive through. Additionally, consider the time it will take to complete each leg of the journey, including rest stops, accommodation, and driving regulations in different countries.

A Step-by-Step Guide on Changing Your Travel Date with Qatar Airways

If you're planning a trip from Dubai to London, flying isn't the only option. Whether you’re looking for a more adventurous journey or simply want to enjoy the scenery, here are some other ways to travel between Dubai and London:

Several bus companies offer long-distance routes across Europe, allowing you to hop on a bus from Dubai to Istanbul. From Istanbul, you can then transfer to another bus that will take you to various European cities, eventually reaching London. However, it offers a more budget-friendly alternative and allows you to explore different places along the way.

Ferry and Train:

For those who enjoy a mix of different modes of transportation, you can opt for a combination of ferry and train travel. Start by taking a ferry from Dubai to Karachi, Pakistan. From there, you can then board a train to various cities in Pakistan and India. Once you reach India, you can take the famous Samjhauta Express train that connects India and Pakistan, stopping at various cities along the way. After reaching the border of India and Pakistan, you can then find alternative train routes to European countries, making your way to London. This option is undoubtedly a long and complex journey, but it offers a unique and adventurous experience.

If you're up for a truly unforgettable adventure, embarking on a road trip from Dubai to London might be just what you're looking for. This option allows you to explore multiple countries at your own pace and enjoy the freedom of the open road. However, it's essential to plan your route carefully, make sure to have the necessary visas for each country, and be aware of any driving regulations and requirements. The journey can take several weeks, depending on the route you choose and how much time you spend in each destination. It's also crucial to be well-prepared with a reliable vehicle, proper insurance, and all the necessary documents.

While these alternative modes of transportation offer unique and adventurous experiences, they are considerably longer and more complex than flying. If time is of the essence, flying is undoubtedly the best option. The carrier is slated to be a high-end airline - although official pricing has yet to be revealed.

Tony Douglas was the former Etihad Airways Head and is a prominent business owner in Saudi Arabia .

Airline launches first-ever flights from UK's 'best' airport to beach hotspot

Airline launches first-ever flights from UK's 'best' airport to beach hotspot

And he believes the country can replicate Dubai 's success and become a tourist hotspot.

Back in 2023, he told the Telegraph : "Going forward. This [Saudi Arabia] will probably be one of the biggest go to places."

He added that Saudi Arabia would be "the next Dubai for holidaymakers."

According to the Riyadh Air boss, more than 336,000 people, including 48,000 pilots, have registered their interest in a job with the airline.

The new airline will be based at King Salman International Airport - Riyadh's brand-new airport.

King Salman International Airport will have six runways and will be able to accommodate 120million passengers when it opens in 2030.

The huge new travel hub will be spread across over 57 square kilometres (22 square miles), with roughly 12 square kilometres being dedicated to recreational facilities.

The airport is being designed by the British  architecture  firm Foster + Partners, while UK construction firm Mace will be responsible as the delivery partner.

Until Riyadh Air launches next year, British Airways  operates direct routes from the UK - with prices starting from around £700 for a return ticket.

Despite the ongoing conflict in Yemen, which borders Saudi Arabia, destinations such as Riyadh remain safe for travel.

And Saudi Arabia isn't the only destination in that's been likened to a Dubai in recent years.

The next Dubai...

Plenty of people have been suggesting that Muscat in Oman could also be another "new Dubai".

It's a title that  Travel Noire  used when talking about the city's merits, saying it had plenty to offer visitors.

They wrote: "Located next to  UAE  on the southeastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula, Oman should not be overlooked.

"Though it has been referred to as 'the new Dubai,' the country is a star in its own right with much to offer.

"Beautiful natural wonders, a deep-rooted  history , incredible architecture and lively nightlife are a few reasons it is worth a visit."

Famous attractions include the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque and Muttrah Souk - one of the oldest marketplaces in the  Arabian peninsula .

Meanwhile, earlier this year, German flag carrier Lufthansa announced that it would be launching Lufthansa City Airlines - a brand-new airline.

Try and get a seat by the window for your flights to Dubai – as the plane descends, you'll want to see the sheer scale of its dramatic sprawl along the coastline, which is just as impressive as its skyline. In little more than 40 years, this city has transformed itself from a tiny settlement to a glittering metropolis and world-class destination.

While Dubai's startling feats of engineering such as the Burj Khalifa, the Palm islands, Burj Al Arab and The Dubai Mall are jewels in its crown, the city’s multi-faceted appeal extends to more than just its architecture. Some people are attracted to the buzz of the place – the frenetic pace and energy of a global business city and tourism hub. However, you might prefer the tranquillity of its desert retreats, golf courses, calm seas and beaches.

Beyond clusters of gleaming five-star hotels, with their luxury suites and infinity pools, there's a historic side to the city too. Visit Al Fahidi Historical District (formerly known as Bastakiya) to see traditional Arabic architecture, then tour the Heritage and Diving Villages of Shindagha.

Visiting Dubai is largely about consumption and one of the most popular activities here is shopping. As well as record-breaking malls packed with designer names, there are traditional souks and vibrant markets. And while Michelin-starred celebrity chefs have embraced Dubai’s high-end culinary credentials, there are still scores of independent restaurants with authentic flavours to explore.

It all adds up to a city of contrasts, and there's nowhere better to witness Dubai's diversity than the Dubai Creek. Here, traditional abras cross the waters, and dhows unload their cargo beneath shimmering skyscrapers.

The latter will have air-conditioned shopping streets, a theme park and a healthcare district. It almost sounds too good to be true, but given Dubai's already incredible rise, you wouldn't want to bet against it.
